i've seen all of tour of duty over half of mash watched/read a good deal of horrorsofwar/senselessviolencebad/etc stuff

and somehow the things that make me feel most guilty about being into hurt/comfort and whump are the pivotal vignette in Catch-22 (because it's so well-written) and now that i've read it the ending of The Red And The Black (because it's imo so bad and senseless compared to the rest of the book)
