I don't want to get too sappy, but I thought I'd share this because people might find this motivating, and others might want to contribute.https://horriblenoise.ca/blogs/word/summer-17-launch-diabetes-inducing-discounts-and-feel-good-charity-flexations I taught myself how to code, and then went to school briefly, when my country collapsed and I lost my job in 2013 when the Arab Spring hit, and moved to Canada on my own.A few years later I was a dev at Shopify, a big canadian ecommerce company (and one of the largest and oldest rails apps currently running) and created an online shop with my friend, a lowbrow artist in Vancouver. At the beginning of 2015 I was living on a futon because that was all I could afford until my next pay check.By the end of that year, I was earning good money doing very interesting work, and had time to work on my online store which is my main hobby now.I like to raise money for causes I am passionate about.Last Black Friday we donated to a charity that helps end FGM in Africa.This time, we are giving everything we make to RE-CODED, which goes to refugee camps in Iraq and runs a bootcamp that teaches youth how to code. I don't think I've ever seen a cause that resonated with me more.
