Arthur was like a magpie. A magpie of curiosities. He loved to wander around flea markets, antique shops, and even car boot sales in search of fun or unusual knick knacks that he could bring back to the house.
Recent acquisitions included an old rug (which had been sent off for a thorough, professional clean before being laid down in their living room), a coloured glass lampshade now in use in the spare bedroom, and, amongst some other small items to add to their already cluttered life, a necklace...

The Arrival Of A Miracle - Anthony Bridgerton
Word count: 1666
Summary: Oh how wonderful it is when new life joins us in this adventure called life, is it not?
The chamber is elegantly decorated with antique furniture and delicate china tea sets. Violet Bridgerton, an elegant and wise woman in her seated on a comfortable armchair.
And Eloise, a spirited and intelligent young woman joins the both of you with a cup of tea.
"It's so lovely to have this moment of peace amidst all the chaos, isn't it?" Violet chuckled, taking a sip from the hot liquid in her teacup. "At least for the time being."
"Yes, indeed. I can't believe this little one will be joining us shortly." You smiled, placing a hand upon your bump covered by your green gown.
"Time flies, my dear. It feels like just yesterday when Anthony was a baby himself." The mother sighed, slightly lost in memories, smiling at you.
"Speaking of babies, it seems like everyone else in London is busy with their own affairs." Eloise joked, making you chuckle as well. "I hardly see anyone these days."
"Well, Eloise, life does tend to get busy, especially when there's a new addition to the family on the way." Violet silenced her daughter, pointing at your bump.
"I must admit, it's quite overwhelming at times. But having tea with all of you brings such joy and comfort." You said, looking at both the women in the room. "Truly."
"My dear, you're doing wonderfully. We're all here to support you every step of the way." Violet assured, placing her hand on yours.
"Absolutely! And once the baby arrives, we'll have even more reasons to celebrate." Eloise laughed, taking a biscuit from the table.
"Indeed, Eloise. Our family will grow, and our love will only deepen." Violet agreed. "Could I ask something?"
"Oh, most definitely, what's the matter?" You asked.
"I've been searching for this specific book for weeks, and I can't seem to locate it anywhere." Eloise almost begged. "My brothers are no help at all. One of them is always painting and the other is making sure a nursery is completed."
"Eloise, y/n is close to birthing a child, how could you ask such a thing?" Violet scolded her daughter.
"It's okay, I'd be happy to help you out." You answered, getting up from the couch with some difficulty. "We can go to the library together and search for it."
"Really? You would do that for me?" She asked, eyes wide with happiness. "Thank you so much. Let's go right now."
And with that, the younger Bridgerton took a hold of your hand and pulled you towards the library.
Entering the library, you're greeted by the smell of old books and the sound of pages being turned.
"Wow, this library is impressive. Do you have any leads on where we should start?" You asked, placing a hand on your back as you felt some subtle pain.
"Well, I've already checked the history section, the adventure section, and even the rare books collection. But no luck so far." Eloise sighed, randomly reading some titles of books.
Eloise is meticulously going through books about unsolved mysteries and hidden secrets. "... It must be here somewhere."
You walk a little further into the library, reading some book titles as well, hoping you'd find the book, at least to help Eloise out.
Suddenly, Eloise's hand brushes against a book that feels slightly different from the others.
But at a sudden moment your face twists in pain. As Eloise walks towards you with a book in her hand.
"Y/n, are you alright? Shall I get Mama or Anthony?" She asked worriedly, placing the book on the shelf, and placing her hand on your back.
You took a deep breath, placing your hands on the shelf, trying to steady yourself. "It's too soon. The baby isn't due for another two weeks, El."
"I don't know much about this but this child is coming," Eloise said, looking around her if there was anyone that could help her out "We must get you to your room."
"I... I can't wait any longer. The baby is coming." You panted, cradling your bump with one hand, feeling how the pain got worse.
"We'll do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of our child," Eloise assured, taking hold of your hand, and leading you out of the library.
You smiled weakly, grateful for the support of your sister-in-law.
Eloise smiles back, determination etched on her face. She took your arm and supported you as you both started to make your way up the grand staircase.
Eloise and you slowly walk up the staircase, each step becoming more challenging for you. Eloise whispers words of encouragement, trying to keep you calm.
"You're doing wonderful, y/n. Just a few more steps and we'll be in your chamber." Eloise encouraged, breathing along with you.
Your grip tightens on Eloise's arm as another contraction hits. You wince in pain, but bravely soldier on. "I can't do this, El."
"You're stronger than you assume, y/n Bridgerton. Remember, soon you'll be holding your beautiful babe in your arms." Eloise smiled, rubbing the lower of your back, hoping to soothe some of the pain.
You reach the top of the staircase and continue down the hallway towards your room.
Eloise helps you into the room and guides you towards the bed. You collapse onto the bed, your face pale and sweaty.
"You, try to stay calm, I'll get Mama and make sure that wicked brother of mine, returns home," Eloise said, kissing your cheek one last time.
Descending the grand staircase with purpose. She spots her mother, across the room. "Mother, we must act fast! Send the midwives to y/n's room and fetch Anthony immediately. She has begun the labor upstairs in their room!"
Anthony Bridgerton bursts through the doors of the Bridgerton residency. Noticing the stares his mother and sister are giving in his direction.
"It's your wife, dearest." Violet began.
"Where? Where is my wife? What's the matter?" He asked, noticing Eloise nodding her head subtly towards the hallway upstairs.
"Anthony, my dear, there's no need to worry. Y/n is in good hands. She's in your room." Violet explained, placing a hand on her son's shoulder. "Preparing for the arrival of your child."
"I just want to be there for her, Mother. I want to hold her hand and support her through this."He answered, looking down at the wedding ring on his hand.
"And you will be. Y/n knows how much you adore her. She knows you'll be by her side every step of the way." She smiled as Anthony's eyes lit up with determination.
"Yes, I will. I'll be the best father and husband I can be." Anthony nodded his head.
"I have no doubt about that, my son. You will be a wonderful father, just like your own father was." Violet spoke with tearful eyes.
"Thank you, Mother. I won't let her down."
"I know you won't, my dear. Now, go to her. Your wife needs you." Violet insisted, motioning her hand toward the staircase.
Anthony nervously enters the room, his heart pounding with anticipation. He glances around, noticing the midwife preparing the birthing supplies. The room is filled with an air of both excitement and trepidation.
"Is everything alright?" Anthony asked the midwife who was taking some sheets for the bed.
"Yes, Mr. Bridgerton. everything is going well, soon you'll child will be here." The woman answered.
He takes a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. He walks over to your side, are you're lying on the bed, your face flushed with pain.
"You're doing amazing, my love. Just a little longer." Anthony whispered against your forehead, softly smiling. .
" Oh, the pain! I can't bear it any longer!" You cried, leaning back into the pillow.
"Just a little while longer, my lady. You're doing wonderfully." One of the midwives reassures, adjusting the gloves on her hands. "Just a few more pushes and we'll have the baby in your arms."
"Don't leave me, Anthony. I need you." You sighed, squeezing his hand.
"Alright, my lady. On the count of three, give me one more big push." The midwive said as you we're pushing the best you could.
"Come on, my love. You can do this." Anthony encouraged, placing his hand on the back of your neck.
The birthing room is filled with a team of midwives bustling around, preparing for the imminent arrival of the baby.
"Just breathe, my lady. You're doing great." The midwife said as she saw sweat beads on your forehead as you clutched Anthony's hand tightly.
You gritted your teeth, leaning back in your bed. "I can't... I can't do this anymore."
"Yes, you can, my love. Just a little longer." Anthony said, removing the strands of hair on your sweaty forehead.
You gather all your strength and push with all your might. The room fills with the sound of your pains.
Anthony's face breaks into a fragile smile as he hears the cry of a babe. "It's... it's a miracle."
"Mr. Bridgerton, It's time for you to cut the umbilical cord. Are you ready?" The midwife said, holding out the scissors towards Anthony.
"I mostly am" The woman hands him the pair of sterilized scissors. He takes a deep breath and approaches the baby, who is in the hands of the midwife.
"Here we go, little one." Anthony carefully cuts the umbilical cord, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The baby lets out a soft cry, signaling its arrival into the world.
"It's a beautiful and healthy baby boy!" The midwife said as she took the baby and gently placed him on your chest. Your eyes filled with tears of joy as you held your newborn close.
"Welcome to the world, my son. We will love and protect you always." Anthony spoke as his eyes were filled with tears.
"Our little miracle. Our family is complete." As you both gaze at your newborn son, the room is filled with a sense of pure bliss and the promise of a bright future.

ONE: POISON IT
You could hardly contain your smile as you sauntered up to Tabito Karasu’s desk, your exam held behind your back. He was sitting by himself — his seat partner was sick this week, from what you had heard, so he had taken the chance to spread out his things and stretch his legs. When he noticed you, he raised his eyebrows, mouth tugging into a frown at your amusement.
“What?” he said. You brandished the paper in front of you, irises sparkling as you leaned over to rest your forearms on the desk.
“I got full marks on the last Chemistry exam,” you said. Karasu made a face at you, snatching the test from your hands and scrunching his face up as he inspected it.
“Seriously?” he said.
“Seriously,” you said. “What did you get?”
He crossed his arms and looked away. “Not telling.”
“You definitely failed!” you said in delight, taking back the exam and laughing at him. “How embarrassing. You failed the easiest test of the year, and yet you consider Chemistry to be one of your best subjects? I can’t wait to see how badly you do during finals week.”
“I did not fail,” he said, rolling his eyes. “Not that it’s any of your business, but I got a ninety-eight.”
“Ninety-eight! That’s even worse than outright failure,” you said. “You were so close to perfection, and yet in the end, you fell short. It must sting for things to work out like that.”
“Yes, I’m positively wounded,” he said dryly before batting his eyelashes at you. From anyone else, the rapid switch in demeanor would’ve left you reeling, but the shifting mood was to be expected from him. “Will you give me a kiss and make it better?”
You rolled up your test and smacked him on the head with it. “No.”
“Anyways, my overall grade in the class is still higher than yours, because rankings were updated today and I’m still number one, so I’m not sure what cause you have to be boasting,” he said.
“Hm, but did you notice who’s number one in Modern Literature?” you said, pulling out your phone and opening the school’s app, which listed each class’s rankings in every subject. “Yup, that’s right, me.”
“Good job, Y/N!” he said, clapping mockingly. “Shall we have a party? It’s a big occasion — the mediocre number two has finally done something of such note that she’s number one for the first time in her life.”
“I’ve been number one plenty of other times!” you snapped. “For your information, I’ve been first in the class in mathematics and history every year since middle school, so who are you to be acting like this is a first? If anyone’s mediocre, it’s you!”
He raised his hands in the air innocently, his trademark smirk gracing his features once more now that he had succeeded in irritating you, as was his typical goal.
“Alright, alright, no need to be upset,” he said. “It’s not good for you. Clouds your judgment.”
“In what way?” you said.
“I mean, somehow, you got the two of us confused,” he said. “And we’re nothing alike.”
“I did no such thing,” you said.
“Well, I seem to recall you calling me mediocre, but between the two of us, the subpar one is obviously you,” he said, flicking your forehead. You slapped his hand away.
“You — the bell is going to ring, so I’m going to go back to my seat, but just so you know, you’re way more mediocre than me, Mr. Two-Percent-Short!” you said.
“Stellar comeback!” he called out. “My ego is bruised beyond healing!”
“Good!” you called back, ignoring the sarcasm. “Maybe it’ll return to a more normal size. Your head has grown too big, it’s almost as ridiculous as that hair of yours!”
“Leave the hair alone!”
During your free period, you decided to go to the library for some peace and quiet to work on your homework and find some of the sources you needed for your next research project. For belonging to a high school, the library was surprisingly extensive, and you had managed to find relevant information for every other project you had ever done in it, so you had high hopes. Unfortunately, it seemed this latest assignment was more obscure than anything you had completed before, so on your second lap of the shelves where the books, if they existed, would be located, you resigned yourself to giving up.
Just then, a volume caught your eye. The cover was shiny and pristine, the spine still unbent with newness. Crouching, you pulled it out, and when you saw the title emblazoned across the cover in bright yellow lettering, you began to laugh, making a beeline to the checkout counter with it tucked under your arm.
“Hey, Y/N! How was your morning?” your best friend said as you set your things down next to her in the cafeteria. You hummed in agreement, searching the room for a familiar head of dark hair. “You good? Looking for someone? Let me guess: your secret boyfriend that you’re keeping from the rest of us.”
“Yeah, I’m looking for Karasu,” you said before the rest of her words registered. “No!”
“You’re finally coming out and saying it?” she said, holding her hands to her heart and pretending to swoon. “I’ve been waiting for you to confess.”
“He’s not my secret boyfriend that I’m keeping from everyone, I’m just looking for him!” you said.
“Could’ve fooled me,” she said. “What do you need him for, anyways?”
“I got a book for him in the library,” you said.
“Right, and this is the guy you hate? Your ‘mortal enemy’ or whatever?” she checked.
“Yes,” you said.
“But you…got a book for him from the library, and now you’re looking for him so that you can give it to him?” she said. You scoffed.
“When you put it like that, it sounds different than it really is,” you said. “Trust me, this isn’t a nice gesture or anything. You can consider it revenge.”
“When are you going to get over this stupid rivalry?” she said. “He’s not even that bad, you know.”
“Not even that bad? Not even that bad? Are we talking about the same Karasu here? I’m referring to Tabito, not his older sister,” you said.
“Ah, I think so? He’s a nice guy,” she said.
“He is the spawn of the devil! And he’s the one who started it, so I’ll stop hating him once he apologizes and means it,” you said.
“Do you think he even remembers that?” she said. “It was in middle school.”
You glared at her. “I remember it. If he doesn’t, well, that’s just more of a reason for me to dislike him on principle.”
“Okay, okay, whatever you say,” she said. “Sorry for complimenting him. He’s awful and rude and mean. I think he’s sitting outside with some of his soccer friends, if you still want to find him.”
“Thank you!” you said, instantly forgetting that you were upset with her for taking Karasu’s side instead of yours. “Watch my stuff, okay? I’ll be right back.”
“See you soon,” she said. “Have fun. Actually, maybe it’s more realistic for me to just tell you not do anything that’ll get you expelled.”
You waved her off as you marched out to the courtyard where Karasu and his friends were lounging, their chairs positioned in the shade so that they did not overheat while they ate. None of them noticed you approaching until you were tapping Karasu on the shoulder and smiling at him sweetly.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” he said, sounding oddly flustered. One of his friends snorted, and more than a few chuckled, but you ignored all of them in favor of setting your bag on the armrest of Karasu’s chair.
“Hi, Karasu. I was in the library earlier and I saw this book that reminded me of you, so I took the liberty of checking it out,” you said.
“Oh,” he said. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“You’re so considerate, Y/N!” one of his friends said.
“We’re all so jealous of Karasu here,” another friend, the one who you believed had snorted, said. “You’re way too pretty for him.”
“Shut up,” Karasu said, sticking up his middle finger at his friend, though none of the group paid him much mind. In fact, it seemed to egg them on more, as they continued to hurl jabs at Karasu while simultaneously incessantly complimenting you.
You didn’t respond to any of them, instead pulling out the book and handing it to Karasu, interlacing your fingers and waiting for his reaction. At first he seemed confused, and then dismay dawned upon his features as he realized what he was holding in his hands: a copy of Chemistry for Dummies.
“What the fuck?” he said. You patted him on the shoulder.
“It’s only suitable,” you said. Suddenly, his expression cleared, and he beamed at you, which caused unease to brew in your stomach. You knew for a fact that he was about to say something infuriating, and you mentally prepared yourself to respond.
“What a roundabout way of telling me you need tutoring! Of course, I’m happy to help you anytime you want,” he said, tilting back in his chair so that he could cross his arms over his chest arrogantly.
“Why would I want tutoring from someone who does worse than me in the class?” you shot back, crossing your own arms in retaliation.
One of his friends whistled. “She got you there, Tabito.”
“Enough out of you,” Karasu said through gritted teeth. His friend winked at you and mouthed ‘nice one.’
“Look, man, all I’m saying is that if you want to ask out such a beautiful girl, you’ve gotta have a little more finesse than that!” he said.
“He can have all the finesse in the world, but I’d still say no,” you said. His friends hollered with raucous laughter, which caused Karasu’s face to turn red, but you only pressed the book into his hands. “It’s due in two weeks. That should be long enough, right? Make sure you return it on time, please, I don’t want late fines.“
“I hope you go into debt because of this stupid book,” he said.
“Aww,” you cooed. “You’ll be the one paying it off, so it doesn’t matter to me. See you around, Karasu — or, hopefully not.”
TWO: SHOOT IT
You and Karasu had met in middle school. The two of you had been assigned to work on a presentation together, and he had told you during your first meeting that because you were a dunce, you should just listen to him and do whatever he said. Ever since that day, you had done everything you could to show him how much better than him you were; for his part, he found great joy in getting on your nerves and so took part in every argument with pleasure.
You had long ago proved his middle school self wrong, by anyone’s standards, but at this point it was a habit for you to hate Tabito Karasu as well as a habit for him to hate you back. And of course, habits were hard to form but harder to break, so you would probably continue in that manner until the day you graduated and left him behind for good.
It was just the two of you who did not get along. Your friends were cordial with him and his ilk, and you did not really mind his little group all that much, crude though they sometimes were. After all, it was just in the manner of teenage boys, and when they were not taking advantage of your presence to make fun of Karasu, they were actually a pretty agreeable sort.
In fact, your friend groups tended to coexist most of the time, even having lunch together every now and again — though they were always careful to ensure that you and Karasu were kept entirely separate, or else you both were guaranteed to ruin the cheerful camaraderie with your sharp tongues and quick tempers. The measures they took were admirable, but unfortunately, they were not always enough. After all, what were precautions when compared with inevitabilities?
“Oh my god!” you squealed. “Guys! Oh my god, oh my god, I can’t believe this is happening?”
“Can’t believe what’s happening?” your best friend said, speaking for everyone at the table. They were all tuned in to you now, wondering what the big news might be that would bring about such a reaction from you, given how put-together you tended to be.
“Do you remember that one model I happened to meet while I was out last weekend? Kenyu Yukimiya? He just requested to follow me on social media!” you said.
“No way!” your best friend said.
“Way!” you said. The only warning you got was an arm pressing against your back, and then your phone was abruptly snatched from your hands. You gasped, spinning in your seat and scowling when you realized that the culprit was none other than that scavenging crow, Tabito Karasu.
“What the hell? He’s average at best, why are you so excited?” he said, scrolling through Yukimiya’s profile, his eyes narrowed critically. “Y/N, don’t you have any standards?”
“You’re probably the only person in the entire country who doesn’t find him gorgeous,” you said, exhaling dreamily as you took your phone back from him and stared at the artful manner Yukimiya was posing in for his profile photo. “He was even better looking in person. And sonice, too! They don’t make men like that often.”
Karasu frowned and swiped at your phone again. You held it out of his reach, reaching across the bench to press your foot against his chest, effectively holding him back from further attempts at thievery.
“Let me look at him again!” he said.
“Um, no,” you said. “I don’t need you making more fun of him. I know you’re jealous, but expressing it like this only makes you uglier, just so you know.”
“Looks like they’re back at it again,” one of your friends said, massaging her temples.
“Yup,” one of Karasu’s teammates said.
“Ugly? Ugly? You’re calling me ugly? Have you looked in a mirror recently? Also, get your gross shoe off of my shirt!” Karasu said.
“I have looked in a mirror recently, actually, and incidentally I’ve also been keeping an eye on my follow requests. Guess what? I’m obviously good looking, since a legitimate model wants to follow me! How many celebrities request to follow you, huh? I bet the answer is zero!” you said, though you did do him the favor of swinging your leg back, allowing him to brush himself off in disdain.
“Lots of soccer players want to follow me,” he said. “I’m quite good, you know.”
“That doesn’t count,” you said. “It has nothing to do with how you look. They’d request to follow you no matter how hideous and poorly styled you and your hair are.”
“Are they seriously arguing about which of them is worse looking?” Karasu’s teammate said.
“I suppose so,” your friend said. “They’re both really hot, though, so I don’t know what the big deal is…”
“Geez, they’ll take any excuse to go at it, huh?” Karasu’s teammate said.
“Pretty much,” your friend said.
“Guess all of that tension has to go somewhere,” his teammate said.
“Exactly,” your friend said, shaking her head as she finished up her lunch.
“That model probably only works for horror magazines!” Karasu said. “It barely even counts!”
“He was in Vogue Japan,” you said smugly. “Look it up, stupid.”
“So what?” he said.
“So he’s handsome,” you said. “Like I said, it’s okay if you’re envious of him, as long as you accept it instead of doing this whole weird denial thing. I don’t blame you for it — in fact, I thought you would be. You don’t have much going for you overall, do you? In all honesty, it’s only natural for you to feel like this when faced with what you lack.”
Karasu’s eyes widened, and then he stood abruptly, picking up his bag with one arm and haphazardly pulling it onto his back. “Goodbye.”
“Bye,” you said, not really caring one way or another what he did with himself. Actually, you would prefer it if he wasn’t there, interrupting your meal and your daydreaming about your impending romance with Kenyu Yukimiya.
“Wow, Y/N,” your best friend said once Karasu was gone. “You’re kind of dumb, you know that?”
“What are you talking about?” you said.
“It’s not her fault,” another one of Karasu’s teammates said. “He’s not much better.”
“Huh?” you said.
“Never mind,” your best friend said, pinching the bridge of her nose. “I have a migraine now.”
“Want some ibuprofen?” Karasu’s teammate said. She accepted it gratefully, and nothing more was said on the subject. The rest of lunch passed in a peaceful manner, though strangely, Karasu did not return.
It should’ve made you happy. You wondered, then, why it felt so odd without him there, like there was a gaping maw sitting in the place that should’ve been occupied by him.
THREE: DROWN IT
Ever since the day that Yukimiya had requested to follow you, you and Karasu hadn’t spoken. He refused to make eye contact with you in the few classes the two of you had together, keeping his gaze lowered to his work and his shoulders hunched away from you. You didn’t even try to talk to him; something told you that it would not be well-received, and you weren’t anywhere near confrontational enough to bring up his odd behavior, so the time without him dragged on and on, seemingly without end.
At first, you were happy, and you told your friends as much. It was a much-needed break from the constant aggravation he brought you, and you found your classes without your competition to be almost boring in their simplicity.
“The more you say you’re happy that you and Karasu aren’t talking, the less it sounds believable,” your best friend said, taking a sip from her juice box.
“Believe it! This is what I’ve been wanting since middle school,” you said.
“Is it?” she said. “It sounds like you’re kind of upset.”
“Am not!” you said. She shrugged.
“Sure,” she said, drawing out the word. “Definitely not.”
“Why would I be upset?” you said.
“You tell me,” she said.
“I’m telling you that I’m not upset. You’re the one with the theory, so give me some evidence to substantiate it,” you said.
“Fine,” she said. “You talk about him all of the time, even when you guys are getting along — or, at least, your twisted little version of being friendly, which isn’t friendly by anyone else’s standards but it seems to work for you two, so I won’t comment further. You keep telling us that you’re so delighted he’s leaving you alone, but you do this thing with your face when you say it that makes it super obvious you’re not. It’s not the kind of behavior you’d display when discussing someone you hate as much as you claim to hate him. Finally, there’s a reason half the school thinks you guys are dating, and it’s not just the obvious aesthetic appeal of that match.”
“What? I thought you were just trying to bother me when you brought that up!” you said. She shook her head.
“No, it’s a common misconception. It’s why no one’s ever asked you out. They all think you’re already taken. Actually, the other day, a guy asked me if I thought he might have a chance with you now that you and Karasu had broken up,” she said.
“What’d you say?” you said, half in horror, half in fascination.
“I told him probably not, and that you and Karasu hadn’t broken up, because you were never together in the first place,” she said.
“Oh, okay,” you said.
“Should I have said something else?” she said. You shook your head.
“No,” you said. “What else would you have said?”
“Dunno,” she said. “Look, you need to cheer up. I’m sure that if you just try to talk to him, things will go back to normal in an instant. Then you can return to complaining about him like usual.”
“Talk to him? About what?” you said. She gave you an incredulous look.
“You were pretty mean to him the other day, Y/N,” she said.
“It wasn’t any meaner than what he says to me on the regular,” you said. “And what I say to him in return. I don’t see why he’d be more or less offended.”
“I think it was a little worse than what you typically say,” she said. “Plus, the context was different.”
“How so?” you said. She shook her head.
“That’s for him to explain, not me,” she said. “Come on, don’t be stubborn. Work things out with him. I miss hanging out with the guys.”
“Ah, so that’s why it matters to you,” you said. “Sorry to say it, but I don’t have any plans at attempting conversation with him anytime soon. Like I said, things are finally calm and stress-free for me. He’s the one being immature, as always, so why’s it up to me to make things better?”
“Immature?” your best friend said. “You’ve held a grudge against him since middle school.”
“And?” you said. She squinted at you before pursing her lips.
“Well, I guess the two of you really are made for one another,” she said.
“What?”
The next week would mark the beginning of the swimming unit in PE class, which you were actually looking forward to. You loved to swim, you had ever since you were a child and your parents had brought you into the water for the first time, and the thought of getting to earn a good grade for something you liked doing in the first place was an agreeable on.
In preparation, you decided to stop by the pool after classes were over so that you could acclimate yourself to the motions of the strokes once again. The swim team’s practice had been canceled, and no one else ever used the pool, so you would have the place to yourself, which was just about the closest thing to heaven you could imagine while still living on Earth.
Changing into your school-issued bathing suit and putting your things into a locker, you tied your hair back so that it was out of the way and stepped into the steaming indoor pool deck. The water was a bright cerulean shade, the lanes split by lane-lines which alternated colors to match your school’s emblem. When you dipped your toe into the deep end, you found it was warm, not cold like you had feared. The school didn’t splurge on heating the water of the rarely-used pool, so usually, it was all but freezing. You supposed that they must’ve had complaints from last year’s PE classes, so they had restarted the heaters in order to ensure that no one had any cause to whine about the temperature this year.
For a moment, you just sat on the tiled edge, your legs swishing about in the water, the heels of your palms pressing against the lip of the pool as you closed your eyes and luxuriated in the tangy scent of chlorine. So lost were you that you almost didn’t notice the door swinging open, but the clang of it shutting was unmistakable. Thinking it must’ve been a confused swim team member showing up to a practice that wasn’t happening, you opened your eyes, your lips parting to issue a reprimand that died before it could take shape.
It wasn’t a swim team member. It was Tabito Karasu, wearing a pair of swim trunks and nothing else, his jaw taut and his fists clenched as he inched towards the water. He hadn’t even noticed you, and you didn’t feel inclined to announce yourself, so you let your elbows dig into your thighs, your chin resting in your hands as you observed him.
You had known that he played soccer almost as long as you had known his name. It was the entire reason he was so popular and well-regarded in the school, and an inextricable part of his identity, but until now, you hadn’t quite considered what that actually meant. After all, you only ever saw him in the loose, modest clothing of the school’s uniform, so why would you jump to the conclusion that he was so — so — well, you were loath to admit it, but he had a striking body, and, now that he wasn’t being all cocky and maddening, you could appreciate that even his face was of a similar quality.
Blinking, you cocked your head as he extended a graceful foot towards the first stair leading into the shallow end. Water splashed against it, and he yanked it back like he had been scalded. You could not help yourself from giggling as he did this once and then twice again. On the third attempt, you forgot that the two of you weren’t acknowledging one another and cupped your hands around your mouth to amplify your voice.
“What are you doing?” you said.
“Who — Y/N? I didn’t realize anyone else was in here!” he said, stepping back from the pool and straightening his shorts, though there was nothing wrong with them that required straightening. You sprang to your feet and walked over to him, leaving wet footprints in your wake as you peered at him curiously.
“I was just going to do some laps to ensure that I’m at my best for the swimming unit next week. Did you have the same idea?” you said.
“Something like that,” he said.
“What’s with that whole ritual, though?” you said. “It’s not that cold. You should just get in.”
“Definitely not,” he said. You furrowed your brow.
“Okay,” you said. “Why are you at the pool, then, if you don’t want to go in the water?”
“It’s nothing you need to be concerned with!” he said. “Why are you so nosy? Just go away.”
“I was here first,” you said.
“Fine,” he said, spinning on his heel. “I’ll go, then.”
“Wait! Karasu, wait,” you said, grabbing onto his wrist as he made to leave. “Look, we don’t have to talk to one another or anything. We’re experienced enough at ignoring each other, so there’s not an issue in both of us being here.”
“Is that what you want?” he said.
“Yeah, sure,” you said. He swallowed hard, his throat bobbing, and you thought he would say something, but he only nodded curtly.
“Fine,” he said. You gave him an expectant look, but he did not move from the spot he was rooted in, so you thought that you might as well take the initiative. Looping around to the deep end, you inhaled and then dove into the water headfirst, staying under for as long as you could before finally surfacing and allowing yourself to settle into the familiar undulations that came with swimming.
After a few laps, you took a break, peeking up over the concrete to look at Karasu, who was still standing stubbornly in place, his nose wrinkling whenever he glanced at the pool.
“Hey,” you said. “Are you scared of the water or something?”
He froze. “Who told you that?”
“No one?” you said. “It’s pretty easy to tell as an onlooker. Were you planning on trying to get over your fear by coming to swim when no one was here? That’s dangerous if you don’t know how. You could drown.”
“I’m not scared of the water,” he said.
“Really? Then why’re you just standing there?” you said. His mouth opened and closed a few times, and then finally he hung his head in reluctant defeat.
“Whatever,” he said. Judging by the way he tensed immediately after the confession, he was expecting you to say something cruel, but you only boosted yourself out of the water and tapped him on the shoulder.
“I can help you, if you’d like,” you said. “I’m good at swimming.”
“Why would I want your help? And why would you even offer it in the first place? This is just one more subject you can beat me in, and that’s all you care about, so save it,” he said. “Congratulations, Y/N. You get to be number one this time.”
He looped a dry towel around his neck and left you standing alone, shivering and dripping pool water, a puddle forming around your feet as you gazed at the door he had vanished through.
The class rankings updated again after the swimming unit was over. You were in first place. Karasu didn’t even make it to the top ten. You wanted to celebrate the victory — it was the first time you had beaten him so thoroughly, after all — but for some reason, it didn’t really feel like something worth celebrating.
FOUR: STONE IT
School without Karasu was lonelier than you thought it would be. You hadn’t realized just how much you relied on him until he wasn’t there anymore. Without him, there wasn’t anyone you could exchange looks with across the room when somebody said something ridiculous in class. There wasn’t anyone who you could talk to in the minutes before the period began. There wasn’t anyone who made you push yourself to be better. What was the point of being first if Karasu wasn’t on your heels, ensuring that you stayed on the top for fear of losing to him? It was boring and lonely to try if he wasn’t doing the same.
You and he were still one and two, but it didn’t matter much anymore. The rankings were just numbers. They didn’t mean anything when Karasu still refused to even exchange pleasantries with you. Why would you want to compete when the other party didn’t share your interest? Now, if you managed to pull out ahead of him, it felt more like you had kicked a dog that was already down than if you had actually won anything. When he got first over you, it didn’t fuel your ambition any. You just wished he would come over and gloat instead of sitting there so solemnly, like none of it had ever mattered to him in the first place.
You couldn’t understand why he was so angry. What had you said that was so egregious? You hardly remembered the conversation you had had with him, it was that thoughtlessly done. You really hadn’t meant much if anything by it. One second, the two of you had been squabbling as you were prone to doing, and the next, he was so furious that he couldn’t bear to interact with you even still.
The day you were ambushed was nondescript. It was just like any other Wednesday, and you were walking back home from school when you were forced to stop in your tracks. A tall man — no, he was a boy, probably a year or two younger than you based on his soft and innocent expression — was barring your way, his arms outstretched and feet planted firmly in the ground to prove the depth of his conviction. He had pale hair and sky-colored eyes framed by the longest eyelashes you had ever seen on anyone, man or woman, with a small mouth pinched into an expression of discontent and lines like tire tracks between his eyebrows.
“Who are you?” you said warily, reaching for your phone, though you hardly knew who you would call. The setting was wrong for this to be a mugging, as it was sunny out and you were on a well-traveled street, but you didn’t really know what else to expect from the stranger, who could certainly outmuscle you if it came to it despite his lovely appearance.
“Yo Hiori,” he said. “I play on Bambi Osaka with Karasu. You’re Y/N L/N, correct?”
“Oh, one of the soccer guys?” you said. “Uh, hey. Yes, that’s me. Is something the matter? I’ve never seen you before. How do you even know who I am?”
“I’ve been watching Karasu for a while,” Hiori said with the utmost of seriousness, his hands dropping to his sides now that he was sure you weren’t going to run past him. “He’s a pretty fascinating person.”
“I’m sure,” you said, thinking to yourself that this Hiori kid was more than a little weird. Did Karasu know that he had acquired such a shadow? You supposed he must’ve. He had always been the observant type, so there was no way someone like Hiori would’ve escaped his keen notice.
“He’s been kind of down in the dumps recently, though. Even our coach noticed it. His playing hasn’t suffered too dramatically, but he’s the captain of the team, so he’s the guy everyone relies on for a funny pep talk or a word of advice when things are going south. Nowadays, however, when he’s off the field, he just sulks,” Hiori explained.
“I see,” you said. “That’s terrible.”
You meant it, too. Karasu without his asshole quips and ready jokes was a different person entirely. A person who you missed more than you could let on, even to yourself.
“It is,” Hiori said. “I took it upon myself to do some digging, and I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason is you.”
He was definitely a freak. You vowed to bring it up with Karasu, if he ever talked to you again. Even if he was already aware, it felt like a moral or civic duty of yours to ensure that he was fully informed about the extent that this child was inquiring into his life.
“What kind of, uh, digging do you mean?” you said, neatly avoiding the second thing he had said.
“It was pretty simple,” Hiori said. “One of the guys asked Karasu if he was acting off because he broke up with his girlfriend or something, and he got so mad that he left practice early. I opened up social media as soon as I got home and saw that you’re the only girl he follows, so by process of elimination, I figured the two of you were having some trouble in your relationship.”
“Relationship? I think you’re misunderstanding,” you said. “There’s no relationship. You could hardly even consider us friends.”
“Oh!” Hiori said. “I’m sorry. He’s mentioned you once or twice, so I just thought — and given what he said — and his reaction and all — no, I really am just sorry. It was wrong of me to make that assumption in the first place.”
“It’s alright,” you said. “I’m told it’s a relatively common misconception, so I can’t blame you. At least, it used to be. We haven’t really spoken in a while, so I guess everything thinks that it’s over, even though it never began in the first place.”
“You haven’t spoken in a while?” Hiori said. “Why not?”
“I think I said something that offended him, and we haven’t been on good terms since. Not that we ever really were in the first place,” you said.
“You did? He’s a pretty rational person, so it must’ve been something terrible for him to still be angry about it,” Hiori said.
“Maybe, but I don’t remember saying anything like that,” you said.
“What if you tell me how your last conversation went? Maybe I can help you,” he said.
“Sure, since you’re apparently the resident Karasu expert,” you said. “Wanna walk with me? I was heading home, but we can go to the convenience store and get some snacks or something instead. I don’t want to get in trouble for standing around in front of some random person’s house for too long.”
“Sounds good,” Hiori said. “There’s one a couple of minutes away, so we can head in that direction and keep talking as we go.”
“Great,” you said. “Okay, so the last time we talked…I think it was when Kenyu Yukimiya requested to follow me.”
“Who’s that?” Hiori said.
“He’s this model I met while I was shopping one day. Absolutely breathtaking,” you said. “Just really a stand-up guy. We’ve hung out a few times since then, he introduced me to the girlfriend I did not know he had, the works.“
“Yikes, unrequited love?” Hiori said with a wince.
“It was more of a celebrity crush. His girlfriend is super sweet, though, so I can’t complain. Anyways, I would consider them both casual acquaintances. The type you call to have a coffee with, but not the ones that help you move into a new apartment, you know?” you said.
“Uh, sure,” Hiori said in a tone which suggested he had no idea what you were talking about but was too scared to inquire further.
“Moving on, Yukimiya requested to follow me, and of course this was at the peak of my celebrity crush, so I started fawning over him, which prompted Karasu to take my phone and start insulting him,” you said.
“Interesting,” Hiori said.
“Then I called him ugly, and he called me ugly — that’s pretty standard for the two of us, so don’t look so shocked! After that, I said something about how I had expected him to be jealous of Yukimiya, since he didn’t have much going for him overall, so it made sense,” you said. “That’s when he left and things got weird.”
“Okay, I think I get it,” Hiori said. You waited for him to explain further. He smiled at you pleasantly.
“Right, so are you going to share with the class or am I meant to read your mind?” you said after a moment.
“I don’t want to give anything away that I shouldn’t,” he said. “But it’s a pretty simple issue to fix. Try thinking about what you said from his perspective.”
“He has a dumbass perspective. It’s impossible for me to think that way,” you said automatically.
“Do you think that he dislikes you?” Hiori said, taking two bottles of Yakult down from the shelf, handing one to you and keeping the other for himself.
“I’m not really sure how he feels about me, to tell you the truth,” you said.
“I don’t think he does,” Hiori said. “So, try thinking about someone you like and then imagine them saying to you what you said to them. Would you be inclined to be nice to them after that?”
“Well…” Your tongue was heavy and leaden in your mouth, and you ducked your head as you searched through your wallet for money. “No, not at all. I’d probably hate them for a really long time. Maybe forever.”
“That’s possible,” he said.
“Do you think he’ll hate me forever?” you said.
“Most likely not. Like I said earlier, he’s a rational person. I think that if you say sorry and sincerely mean it, he’ll forgive you. There’s a chance he won’t, though; you’ll have to listen to what he says and accept it,” Hiori said.
“But when? I hardly have the chance to see him in school. He just avoids me, and the building’s so big that it’s all but impossible to track him down!” you said.
“We have a soccer game in the evening today,” Hiori said. “I’m heading over there in a bit. Wanna come? You can talk to him once it’s over.”
“Am I allowed to?” you said.
“Why wouldn’t you be?” Hiori said. “If anyone says anything, just tell them I invited you. Here, I’ll give you the address and time now, and you can decide if you want to show up.”
“Okay,” you said, typing out his instructions in your notes app. “Thanks a lot for your help, Hiori.”
“Anytime!” he said. “Hope to see you at the game!”
“Even if I don’t go, I’d still like to meet you again. You’re a pretty cool kid,” you said, reaching up to ruffle his hair. “Kind of weird, if I’m being fully honest, but cool nonetheless. Karasu’s lucky to have a teammate like you.”
He grinned, and it was a tender, shy thing, as if he was earnestly seeking your praise or approval — like how a cat would bring a dead rat to its master or a child would show their parents a treasured drawing. “Thank you. Even if you don’t try to talk to Karasu…maybe you can still come anyways?”
“Alright, then,” you said. “Since you asked so nicely, I guess I have to. I’ll be there.”
FIVE: TAME IT
The sun was nearing the horizon, but it still had not officially begun to set by the time you settled in the bleachers on Bambi Osaka’s side. Besides a couple of women your mother’s age and an elderly man who must’ve been someone’s grandfather, there weren’t any other spectators. Hiori had mentioned that this wasn’t a particularly serious game, as they didn’t even need to beat the team to make it to Nationals, so it was more like a friendly exhibition game than anything — hence the low turnout.
“Hello, dear,” a woman said when she noticed you sitting by yourself. “Are you friends with one of the players?”
“Yes. Um, Tabito Karasu? I’m his classmate,” you said. Technically, you were there on Hiori’s goodwill, not Karasu’s, but for you to not mention Karasu would be like a betrayal. You weren’t sure if it was him or yourself that you’d be betraying, but either way you did not want to chance it.
“You’re one of Karasu’s friends? Lucky you, then,” she said. “He’s a delightful boy, or so I’ve heard. This is my son’s first year on the team, and he was really nervous to join such a prestigious organization, but ever since his first day, all he can talk about is how amazing his captain is. Karasu’s tough on all of the players, but he really works hard to make all of them feel welcomed, too.”
Bambi Osaka’s team took the field, and you smiled when you saw Karasu in the front, his name across the back of his jersey, a pair of black gloves covering his large hands, an insolent leer on his face as he greeted the other team’s captain. He had not noticed you yet, and you were not sure if this was for the better or worse, because you wanted him to see you, but you didn’t want him to be distracted and play poorly as a result.
“He’s a wonderful person,” you agreed. “He’s the only one in the entire school who can keep up with me, academically or otherwise. I didn’t realize until recently how much I admire him for that.”
The woman’s eyes crinkled around the corners with the ease that came from a lifetime of happiness. For some reason, you thought that she knew something you did not, or could not, but it wasn’t uncomfortable that she did. It seemed to you that being left in the dark was just your lot this time around, and you found that oddly enough, it felt acceptable.
“Is this your first time coming to watch him?” she said.
“Yes, it is,” you said.
“You know, he has this habit before every match of scanning the stands, like he’s looking for someone. I thought it might be his parents, but at the last match, just about his entire family showed up, and he still seemed disappointed,” she said.
“That’s a shame,” you said noncommittally, not sure what else you should say. The woman shrugged.
“Well, I wonder what it’ll be like today,” she said. “There he goes.”
True to her words, Karasu was craning his neck towards the Bambi Osaka side, his eyes darting from person to person until they settled on you. You raised your hand hesitantly, waving at him, knowing that he probably wouldn’t reciprocate.
He turned away almost immediately, but not before you saw him fight back a smile — not the smug type he generally donned, but one you had only ever seen on him once or twice. It was one that made him seem charming and boyish and sweet, that made you want to take back every negative word you had ever said about him. Only now could you understand that it showed who he really was, that at his heart Karasu was that kind of person, not anything like the facade you were so accustomed to, which he showed you for the sole reason that it was what you unconsciously demanded of him.
You had judged him to be horrible, and so he became the bane of your existence. You had told him he was good for nothing, so he disappeared like he really was just that. Everything you said, Karasu went along with gamely, and you wished you could’ve known that earlier, so you would’ve spent less time hating him and more time comprehending these intricacies, which entranced you in the way a spider’s web entranced a butterfly.
“Looks like I don’t need to worry about that child any more,” the woman said as the referee blew the whistle to signal the start of the game.
“Pardon?” you said. “Were you talking to me?”
“No, no,” she said, shaking her head. “I was just musing to myself. Ignore me. Let’s watch the game; I have a feeling that some of our players are going to go all out today.”
Bambi Osaka completely annihilated the other team. Maybe the match didn’t matter, but none of them played that way; instead, they were aggressive and focused, with Karasu at the forefront of every goal they made, commending his teammates and deriding his opposition in the same breath.
That was something you had not expected — he had a massively foul mouth when he played soccer. You had thought that he was rude when he spoke to you, but the things you overheard from him whenever he ran by within earshot made your conversations seem tame. You couldn’t help but pity the poor defenders that he shoved past and spat barbed-wire abuse at.
He was merciless and beautiful and you could probably spend a dozen more hours watching him play without even a trace of boredom, but by the time the sky had turned gold and the sun had dipped towards the ground, the game was over and the members of Bambi Osaka were packing up their things to leave for the night after yet another landslide win.
You snuck onto the field once you were extremely assured that nobody would be upset with you for it, making your way over to where Karasu was chugging a bottle of water.
“Hi,” you said when he was finished, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand and tossing the now-empty bottle into his bag. “You played really well.”
“Thanks,” he said. There was impatience but also longing in his voice, like he wanted you to say something so badly but he knew you would not, would never, and so he would rather get the conversation over with and move on with the business of his life than stick around and waste time with you.
“I’m sorry,” you said.
“What?” he said.
“I’m sorry,” you said. “Karasu, I’m really sorry. I don’t think that you have nothing going for you. I don’t know why I said that. Well, I do, it’s because I wanted to have the last word like I always do, but I don’t mind if I don’t have it this time. Or any other time. Or ever again.”
“What?” he repeated, as though he had been rendered dumb by your confession.
“I miss you,” you admitted. “I didn’t believe I could, but apparently, I can, and I do. A lot. I know that I’m unpleasant and disparaging and haughty when it comes to you, but I won’t be that way anymore if you forgive me for my vices one last time. If it means you’ll talk to me, I’ll be a fool. I’ll be in second place. I’ll be an idiot. But please, please forgive me.”
He took a deep breath. You handed him the bottle of kombucha that you had bought on your way to the game because you saw him drink it so frequently that you figured he must like it. He accepted it gingerly, holding it with the delicacy of a newborn, unscrewing the lid and sipping on it pensively.
“Alright,” he said.
“Alright?” you said.
“I’ll forgive you,” he said. “But on one condition.”
“Anything,” you said.
“You better not do anything as dumb as trying to be mediocre on purpose because you think it’ll make me feel better. What the hell is that proposition, huh? It’ll make me feel worse if anything! I like you because you’re unpleasant and disparaging and haughty and whatever else you said, not in spite of those qualities. I’m sure you heard me while I was playing…anyone who isn’t you would probably be terrified of me when I’m like that,” he said. “Just, y’know, I’m a person with feelings, too, so keep that in mind if you can. Oh, and don’t wait so long to say sorry next time, because it’s seriously annoying for me to feel all out-of-sorts for ages!” he said.
“That’s it?” you said.
“That’s it,” he said. “Hug?”
Ordinarily, you would’ve said no, but you were so weepy at the reconciliation that you nodded and let him embrace you, his arms caging you against his chest, holding you to him so that you could not escape.
“Ew!” you shouted when you registered what he was trying to do, shoving him off of you as he cackled and released you without much of a fight. “Gross, Karasu, you’re disgusting! Get away from me! I can’t believe you did that!”
“I can’t believe you fell for it!” he said as you frantically tried to wipe yourself off, though it was largely in vain. In your emotional state, you had forgotten that he was still drenched with sweat from the game, and you were now reaping the consequences of your poor decision making.
“You’re a bad person,” you said.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said. “Whatever you say.”
“I probably deserved that one, though, so I won’t hold it against you,” you said.
“Smart decision,” he said. “Wait. Unrelated, but whatever ended up happening between you and that model dude? What was his name again?”
“Yukimiya? He has a girlfriend,” you said. “Oh, well. What can you do, right? I’m not upset about it. Besides, everyone and their mother thinks I have a boyfriend already, so it’s probably for the best that it worked out like this. I wouldn’t want his modeling career to be ruined by home-wrecking allegations or anything.”
“It must be a pretty serious not-relationship you’ve got there, if it’s the career-ending type,” he said.
“I’d say it’s pretty serious, yes,” you said. “He’s an awesome guy. You’d like him.”
“I’ll respect it, then,” he said. “But…if you ever find yourself not-breaking up with him, then, uh, let me know. I’ll take you on a date somewhere. We can argue and reminisce about the day we met over dinner or something. It’ll be super romantic.”
He said it casually, but you were more familiar with him than either of you ever could’ve predicted you’d be. He was secretly nervous about how big of a risk he had taken, fiddling with the zipper of his soccer bag, avoiding your eyes while he waited for your response. You let the silence stretch on for a minute, just to make him squirm, and then you poked him in the ribs.
“Karasu,” you said.
“What’s up?” he said, and he must’ve been trying very hard to keep his cool, but his anxiety transmitted through the endearing crack of his voice.
“I have to tell you something,” you said.
“Go ahead,” he said.
“I’m not-single now,” you said. “So. Will you take me on a date this weekend?”
He lit up, so bright that you were all but blinded by the brilliance of his joy. Then he cleared his throat and pretended to check the non-existent watch on his wrist.
“You’re in luck,” he said. “That works for me. I’ll pick you up on Saturday for dinner.”
“Great,” you said. “I look forward to it.”
“Hold on, don’t go just yet,” he said. You paused, about to ask him what else he needed when he stooped over and pressed his lips to your cheek. “Thanks for coming to my game. I’m not really sure how you knew I was playing, but I’m glad you could make it either way.”
“Um — uh — Hiori told me, he told me you were playing, and, er, where to go and what time and all,” you stammered, trying to wrap your head around what had just happened, replaying it in your mind over and over.
“Hiori? I should’ve known he’d be the type to meddle like that,” he said. “I’m not even going to ask how you know each other. The answer will probably make me feel vaguely discomfited, so I’ll abide by an ‘ignorance is bliss’ policy.”
“That’s probably for the best,” you said, composing yourself, though internally, you were imagining what it would be like if you had turned your head, if instead of your cheek his lips had landed somewhere else. “Okay, I should go now. See you on Saturday?”
“One last thing. You’re pretty transparent, you know,” he said, grasping your chin in his left hand and leaning in. Your eyelashes fluttered shut as he grew closer and closer, but right when his mouth was a hair’s breadth from yourself, he chuckled. “Also, pretty gullible.”
Instead of kissing you like you had anticipated he would, he tackled you in another hug. You squealed in protest, but he held fast, his body rumbling with laughter as you simultaneously struggled to escape and clung onto him as tightly as you could.
“I hate you,” you said when your half-hearted efforts proved to be entirely futile.
“Sure you do,” he said.
“You’re the worst,” you said.
“Absolutely,” he said.
“I’m being serious here. You smell!” you said.
“Well, that’s plain rude of you to say,” he said, messing up your hair in what you were sure he deemed to be a punishment, as if being crushed against his sweaty form wasn’t punishment enough.
“Let go of me, you idiot crow!” you said.
“No can do,” he said. “Crows are clingy birds, you know. Even the idiotic ones. Ask me again in twenty years and maybe we can revisit the issue.”
“Karasu!”

Worthy Brief - July 29, 2024
Understand Jerusalem!
Psalms 122:5-7 For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you. 7 Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces."
Last week, we discussed the significance of Jerusalem in the culmination of the age. Here we'll continue to scratch that surface. The word "Jerusalem" is so rich with meaning, a single devotion will only begin to unpack it, there are so many etymological approaches. But most agree that the root letters at the end, שלם (shalem) spell a Hebrew word requiring numerous English words to fully comprehend including, "perfect", "complete", "sound", "whole", "harmony", "peace", etc. In addition, the concept of payment is present, as לשלם (leshalem), "to pay", also suggests "reward".
There are two options of meaning for the letters at the beginning of the name, Yerushalayim, "ירה" (yara, with the letter "hey" ה at the end), means "to throw, cast, or shoot; to cause (cast) a particular effect or result by means of many small elements or impulses", (e.g. arrows, words, instructions, rain drops, etc.)". From this we infer that Jerusalem is a place where peace, wholeness, fulfillment and completion (shalom), are cast or released (yara) through a patient, repetitive process of instruction, a softening produced by a "rainfall" of God's word, or a piercing of sin and ignorance by "arrows" (of truth), etc. These processes describe the spiritual history and unique identity of Jerusalem, a central place of God's self revelation. Also this name testifies that the first appearance of the Prince of Peace (Sar Shalom) there, was preceded by an extended process of patient and repeated prophetic revelation cast over centuries.
An alternative root beginning the name "Yerushalayim", ירא (yara' with "aleph", (א) instead of "hey" (ה), means "to revere", "to give heed", "to be in awe", or "to fear". In this case the name "Jerusalem" carries an exhortation to heed, revere, or be in awe of, (yara) perfection, wholeness, and peace, (shalom) and therefore, God Himself, who is the Author of all these. Both of these beginning roots express true characteristics of the "Holy City".
Additionally, within "Yerushalayim", we find the Hebrew word “Yerusha", meaning "inheritance", the legal transfer of property across generations. This makes reference to the verses above concerning judgment and prosperity. In Jerusalem there are thrones of judgment set in the house of David; [Ps. 122:5]. Here we see a prophetic reference to the judgment seat of Christ, David's royal successor, Yeshua (Jesus). At His throne all the works of men will be judged, assessed and rewarded with an inheritance in the age to come; [Romans 14:10; 2 Corinthians 5:10]. Yerushalayim thus holds a promise for prospering, as believers who, understanding its significance, serve faithfully, and endure to become co-heirs with Messiah and reign with Him; [Romans 8:17; 2 Timothy 2:12 ]. Finally, "May they prosper who love you", [verse 6], reaffirms the prosperous reward for all who love and appreciate YHVH's Holy City and its purpose in history and eternity.
So much of the Gospel message of Messiah is found in the name of the city where it happened, Jerusalem. Here, the raindrops, the water of God's Word, repeatedly and patiently fell onto both the fertile and fallow soil of men's hearts. Here YHVH's prophetic "arrows" repeatedly pierced both the tender and hardened hearts of men, in the hope of repentance for acceptance in God's Kingdom. Here, the awesome nature of God Himself was revealed in His Word and Personal Image, Yeshua the Messiah. Finally, in Yerushalayim, perfect redemption and peace with humankind were fulfilled and completed by the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Yet, before this took place Yeshua gave a final word to His beloved Jerusalem; "You shall see me no more until you say, 'Baruch haba b'shem Adonai', ('Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD') [Matthew 23:37-39], a most serious word of warning and hope in light of His rejection by Israel. In this light, praying for the peace of Jerusalem takes on a dimension of significance which includes Israel's final redemption and acceptance of their Messiah, and becomes a "last days" participation in the Lord's eternal purposes, with the expectation of rejoicing with Him for Israel's salvation and the fulfillment of Jerusalem's eternal destiny.
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

WIP Game
Okay, so the lovely @farawayanddreaming tagged me for this WIP Game…earlier this week? I hope it’s only been that long… Oh well. So. This could prove to be a little bit interesting as I don’t actually title much until it’s finished. Most of the files in my WIP folder are “titled” with the first line of the work which may or may not be the current first line. Aaaaaand, I have a LOT of WIPs. Are we ready for this??
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
Wei Ying stumbled up the steps of the pavilion just as the visiting students…
Jiang Cheng had not struck him a blow, not physically at least, though Lan Zhan…
You Are and I Love You As You Are

“Lan-er-gonzi?”
Nearly two years had passed since Wei Ying’s resurrection into the world, and…
“Professor Lan, we appreciate you taking on this additional class for the semester…”
Wei Ying flopped back on the warm roof tiles with a satisfied sigh…
Gank This Bat! WangXian Style.
“You said ‘always’—when did that start?”
“Xiao Wei!”
“Kunlun…where did you come from?”
Shen Wei didn’t have any scars. Not visible ones anyway.
Wu Xie woke trembling and gasping on the cusp of a hacking cough before he remembered…
Wu Xie blinked blood from his eyes and frantically smeared it away from his…
“Xiaoge! You’re back!”
It was raining. Again.
He took one last look around the room before he yanked the zipper on his bag…
Told you. I really wasn’t kidding. I work on a lot of stuff. At the same time. And since I know absolutely no one on Tumblr save the person who tagged me in this to begin with I shall instead tag some of my favorite writers on AO3 and we’ll see what happens: @canary3d-obsessed @majorenglishesquire @laireshi @jockvillagersonly @robotmango

Process - or really Nic doing random shit and hoping it works
Recently, a few bookbinders have been describing their creative process and i love how aspirational and amazing they are. these people are amazing, my friends- they come up with so much cool shit in the setting of their home, with things they have on hand, and it shocks me at how great these bookbinders are.
i think comparatively, my process is fairly simple (i.e. chaos gremlin), and I've decided I'd like to use a previous book i took process pics of as a general outline as to how i come up with what i want to do.
My first step is usually to fixate on a particular design element and move on from there - this is usually a chapter font or an image header or a cover image i’m interested in using, and then moving on to putting things together to form something cohesive. most of the time i have to see how it’ll look visually before i can decide, which does make choosing design elements challenging and hence made me a little into a pantser (despite being an asshole who likes to measure things). half the time, i change things like endpapers or endbands or colour of bookcloth or even the whole freaking design right down to the wire because i just won’t know what will work until i can see it.
To make this a little fun for me, I'll outline the general stream of consciousness (let's face it, it’s not that much of a process, I just think things and sometimes a book happens) along with 45% of the foul language that accompanies it when I try new things with books.
(Please be aware that I am 90% made of foul language and i sometimes frequently blaspheme like a sailor)
See below for thought process, process pics and much swearing.
Day 0 minus 14 - Ok, let's be smart about binderary, shall we? I have a week of leave in February, let's make it count... Proceeds to prepare 10 typesets with 2 ready-made ones and then an additional notebook for a total of 13 books for Binderary. Ooh boy. Yeah, that’s achievable.
Day 1:
Attends queercore workshop at 0630am in the morning. Fuck, am I sleepy. Did I succeed in making a book? Not really. Okay, let’s fudge it. Converts glueless notebook with nice stitching into case bind. Convenient gift for mothers day - booyah, 1 gift done.
Oh hey. I have a thing. What about the Oh Mercy // Oh Love book. Hmmm, I have a nice image for this that I didn't use for the typesetting. Wonder if I can stitch it.
20:00 hours: Oooh, Neenah Illusio Laser paper - it looks so shiny. And Metallic. Very circuit board-y. Just what i was going for. Is it a paper? Is it cloth? I have no fucking idea. Hope it takes foil alright.

20:30 hours: Ooh ok, success - Jesus that's a lot of holes to poke.
Day 2:
Okay, procrastination. Gotta make a case.

JEsus i hate the turn ins and THE SPINE DFJKLSDFKLJ;SDF;LKSDF paper why you gotta do me a dirty?! Stiff and crinkly!!!!
17:00 hours: okay, case is nearly doneish.
Time to use foil quill to outline the holes to give it that soldered look and then do all the hole pokery. Dinner first.
19:00 hours: Dinner sorted. But like you know, let’s do some hammering with an awl in an apartment complex and pray none of the neighbours complain.
Shit these holes are small.
22:30 hours: I might finish this by Christmas, maybe.

JFC i am collapsing under my hubris. THE FACT I THOUGHT I COULD DO THIS. Oh god @&£#'€¥ what possessed me to try this - oh I know, I thought it would look cool (90% of why I do things when I make books).
Go easy on the thread - do not rip it through the space between two holes. JESUS FFFJB;N;KLGH CHRIST WHY.
Okay I can do this. I can do this. Stitches for 4 hours and nearly collapses.

Stitching is done!!!! Hmmm design looks a little plain. And awww shit you can't see any of the gold around the holes anymore. Okay let's try going over it in foil quill again.
00:30 hours: OH FUCK OH FUCK WHAT A FUCKING BAD IDEA.
Jesus djdjsbsbdjdsbdbddnc * MAKES MISTAKE and adds dot of gold on the side of a hole, plainly not in the hole*
Frantically googles ‘how to remove we r memory keepers heat reactive foil from paper’
Tries to remove it with an eraser and tape as per google recommendations- but removes a fuck ton of the green colouring on the bookcloth as well. JESUS.
I am ready for death.
Day 3:
10:30 hours: Okay I am ready for a new day. Am I really ready? Unclear. Time to weed the shit out a fucking complex design and go blind in the process.
12:30 hours: Ok fuck, that only took 2 hours.
But oh shit endbands and glueing of the spine. Time to do some glueing. At least it’s somewhat therapeutic. Jesus my endpapers and mull are still not on.
14:00 hours: On to the case it goes
14:30 hours: Time to do some HTV application

Fuck why isn't the HTV sticking JESUS cricut is an evil corporation out to take my money and yet I did not want to use Siser HTV today because I Was Not Ready for Death and Ruination.
Proceeds to iron for the next 1 hour.
16:00 hours: Fine it's finally fucking on?
Is the spine done? Hmmm. that little blemish isn’t covered. Should I cover it? Ugh.
Cuts out little squares of gold foil - but it looks foul. Okay, nope, not good.
Fuck I need a nap. Somewhere along the way, spouse comes home. Dog has been fed. My job is done.
Naps for 3 hours just because.
20:00 hours: Okay moment of truth. Time to case in. Book is gonna be held together with glue and prayer. Shit why do the squares look so small- fuck it's because there's some stitching on the spine so I can't push the textblock all the way in. I DID NOT PLAN FOR THIS EVIDENTLY. please do not stick out please do not stick out please do not stick out
20:30 hours: hallelujah it is FINE - into the press of a million books it goes
So that was a wild ride-- i wish i could say i exaggerate, but this is how it is with me tryin’ to do a book especially when trying new things i haven’t previously done before. Will a book happen? Sometimes I don’t really know.

Tonight finds you in your bed chamber entertaining not one general, but two. One of them is on the bed beside you, running his mouth all over your body as you fist the sheets and moan. The other is bound to the foot of the bed, arms tied behind his back, mouth gagged, cock caged, and watches, quietly seething.
******************
Earlier that day you had been in your throne room listening to your advisors. Antonius sat at the foot of your throne, allowed to watch but not offer any counsel. Just a few days earlier, you had allowed him to return to the palace. He had been permitted back into your bed chamber but not your bed, sleeping instead on a mat in the corner of the room. You had yet to give him back his collar and harness but the cock cage remained firmly in place, unseen under his loincloth.
The meeting was just winding down when suddenly, there was the sound of fanfare. A small troop of soldiers entered followed by your most trusted general, The Duke. It had been a few months since you had seen him last as he was leading your troops from the front line.
He smiled broadly and offered you a deep bow. “Apologies for interrupting, My Queen.”
His voice was deep and rich, never failing to bring heat to your core. You stood to greet him, not missing the scowl on your war prize’s face. “My dear Duke, welcome home.”
He bowed once more and took your hand and kissed it, staring up at you through his lashes. “It is always a pleasure to return to you, My Queen.” His smile was warm and playful as his eyes danced from you to the man sitting at the base of your throne. The amusement on his handsome face grew as he walked behind you to look at Antonius, watching as you returned to your throne, ruffling your war prize’s hair as you sat. Antonius gave The Duke a smug look before it quickly vanished at your next words.
“My dear Duke, I hope you will join me for a private welcome home.”
The Duke cut his eyes from Antonius back to you. “Of course, My Queen. I am always at your command.”
You hear a growl from the foot of your throne as you smile sharply and say, “Excellent. We shall see you tonight.
****************
Before the Duke arrives, you make quick work of tying your war prize’s hands behind his back and removing his loincloth, revealing the golden cock cage he has worn for weeks. He scowls but says nothing as you secure him to the foot of the bed, looping the ends of the rope so he has a perfect view and no give to move away. He continues to glare as you stand back from him.
“Do you have something to say, War Prize?”
He shifts as best he can to look at you. In a small voice he asks, “My Queen, why?” You decide to play dumb.
“Why what, My Prize?”
He huffs, unamused. “Why must I watch?” You run a fingernail over his bare chest, enjoying as he shivers.
“Because it is my pleasure for you to do so.” There is a knock on the door, effectively cutting off the rest of your conversation. You turn from your prize and call out, “Enter!”
The Duke steps in, taking care to bolt the door behind him. He is even more handsome in the lamplight, features softened by the shadows. His rich red and gold robe hangs open, revealing a muscular torso. He offers you a smile as he bows his head in greeting.
“Good evening, My Queen.” He glances at your prize with a thoughtful look as he takes in his bound form. “My Queen, might I make one improvement to our audience?”
Intrigued, you wave your hand towards Antonius. “Go ahead.”
A playful smirk graces your general’s handsome face as he pulls the sash from around his waist and precedes to wrap it around Antonius’s mouth, securing it behind the back of his head. Your war prize yells, but is muffled by the elegant silk. Smiling, you grab the lapels of The Duke’s robe and push it off his shoulders, revealing his glorious, nude form. You run a hand down his chest and he moans as you give his cock a long stroke.
The Duke closes his eyes and swallows thickly. “My Queen,” he gasps out hoarsely. “Perhaps we ought to continue this on your bed.”
You glance at Antonius and then look The Duke deeply in the eyes. “An excellent idea.”
The Duke smiles as you take him by the hand, leading him onto the bed. Antonius pulls at the rope holding him fast and snarls, sound muted once more by the fabric stuffed in his mouth.
Smiling sharply, you lie down in the center of the bed, pulling The Duke on top of your body. He presses a line of hot, open-mouthed kisses down your throat as you stare over his head at your war prize. Antonius’s skin is flushed and you can see the cock cage shift as his restrained cock pushes against the delicate gold bars keeping it sheathed.
The Duke looks up at you and, noticing your distracted gaze, follows it. He stares at Antonius and the heated look that passes between both men goes straight to your core. You grab The Duke firmly by the shoulders and pull him roughly into a kiss, delighting as his tongue mingles with yours. There is a whine from the foot of the bed as The Duke breaks off the kiss and begins to trail kisses down to your breasts. You moan as he takes one of your nipples in his mouth, first biting the sensitive bud and then soothing it by laving generously with his tongue, making you rear your head back onto your pillows.
The bed creaks as Antonius uses his weight to shove the bed, trying to get your attention, but you are lost to the sensation of The Duke’s talented mouth on your body. He precedes to give your other nipple the same treatment as you lose all coherent thought.
The Duke nips lightly down your body, stopping at your sex. He looks up at you, silently seeking permission. You look from him to Antonius, who is watching you both intensely. He meets your eyes with a heated look. You moan and gently push The Duke’s face down, feeling him smile against your thighs. He noses at your folds before his tongue parts your slit and then he is on your clit. His licks are light and teasing and you need more. You start to pant and squirm as his gentle flicks give way to firm thrusts as you start to moan.
You are but an instrument of pleasure that his tongue skillfully plays, numbing you with sensation. You force your eyes open to see your beloved war prize staring hungrily at the pair of you. He catches your eye and you moan in tandem.
The Duke pulls off you for a moment, gazing reverently. “My Queen, you taste divine,” he pauses to turn his head to the foot of the bed before adding, “Don’t you find that to be true, Antonius?”
The other man nods vigorously, his words unintelligible through the gag. The Duke smiles and then returns his attention back to you.
He flattens his tongue and begins to purposefully spear your clit. You grasp the silk sheets in a white-knuckled grip. Impossibly, The Duke bobs his head and murmurs, the vibrations making it even more intense and you come, screaming his given name. He continues to lap at your sodden folds as you shiver through the end of your orgasm. When he pulls back, he is all smiles, face damp. He rubs his elegant fingers over his chin and then licks your juices off his palm. Both you and Antonius moan.
After you and The Duke have caught your breath, he lays beside you against the pillows, staring intently at Antonius. He then crawls over and undoes the loops securing your war prize to the bed. Antonius shuffles over and kneels beside you on the floor, nuzzling your hand with his cheek. A wave of affection overcomes you. Catching The Duke’s eyes and staring meaningfully at the spot between you, The Duke smiles softly and nods.
You tug at Antonius' hair and he moves to join you both on the bed. The Duke unties the gag and Antonius looks between you both, working his sore jaw a few times. You undo the ropes securing his hands and then The Duke takes his wrists and rubs them gently as Antonius sighs.
You look between the two men, noting the fervid looks that pass between them, a wonderfully wicked idea forming in your mind.
You reach for the gold chain around your neck, holding it up for the pair of them to see, revealing the gold key to Antonius’ cock cage.
“My dear boys, what would you say if I removed that cock cage and then the three of us had some more fun tonight? Together.”
Voices beautifully wrecked, both men tear their gazes from each other to answer you, in tandem. “Yes, My Queen.”
Smiling, you pull the chain from around your neck. The Duke strokes Antonius' chest while you reach down and unlock the cock cage. Slipping it free from his cock, Antonius sighs and you and The Duke watch as your war prize instantly hardens.
With a growl, Antonius grabs your hips and you let out an undignified squeak as he pulls you up over his lap and you find yourself laying across both him and The Duke.
You caress both of their cheeks and then tipping your head up, tug Antonius down into a passionate kiss, delighting in his gasp as you suck his tongue into your mouth. When you pull off him, he’s staring back at you, pink lips beautifully slick. Not one to leave any of your subjects wanting, you shift over to bring your mouth to The Duke’s, swirling your tongue around his before he too has a chance to react. You sit back, amused by the dazed looks on their handsome faces.
The three of you shift around so that you sit in the middle, watching as they gaze fervently at each other over your head. You huff out a laugh and their eyes snap to you. “Oh just go ahead and kiss all ready, my beautiful boys.”
Needing no further encouragement, they smash together, arms wrapping around each other's shoulders, fighting for dominance. You are unsurprised to see The Duke overtaking Antonius, pressing him back against the headboard, his tongue first licking at the seam of your war prize’s lips, and then thrusting sensuously into his mouth. You shiver at the memory of that powerful tongue taking you apart mere minutes earlier. Antonius moans and leans back into the pillows as The Duke deepens their kiss. You take advantage of your position under them and climb onto Antonius’ lap, kissing a line down his throat and over his chest. You feel one of The Duke’s hands kneading your ass.
After a few minutes of enjoying each other’s bodies, you all lie back. The Duke rests against the headboard, carding his fingers through Antonius’ hair while you sit between your war prize’s legs, lightly massaging his chest. The Duke looks down at you both with a heated stare.
“My Queen, please allow me to fuck your war prize.”
Biting your lip, you look at Antonius, gently scratching his chest. “What do you say, my handsome prize?”
He licks his lips and says softly, “Only if I can eat you out while he does.”
Just the idea of that makes you wet. “Oh absolutely, yes.”
You tear your gaze from Antonius to move to one of the side tables. You pull out a gold container which holds supplies for both men. You pass it to The Duke, trusting him to prepare them both.
Sitting back against the foot board, you watch as he sheaths first his own cock and then Antonius’. You moan in delight, fingering your nipples as The Duke lubes them both, giving Antonius’ long-neglected cock a few firm strokes for good measure. Your war prize rears his head back and keens with pleasure after going so long without.
The Duke drizzles some lube onto his fingers and the three of you shift so that you’re now resting against the headboard, with Antonius getting onto his hands and knees between your splayed legs with The Duke resting against the foot board on his knees behind Antonius.
Though your view is obscured, you know precisely when The Duke starts to stretch Antonius because your war prize moans and then pitches forward, before stabilizing his arms on the mattress. You lean forward and caress his cheek.
“You may put your weight on me, My Love, if it helps.” Breathing sharply through his nose, he nods and then leans forward to rest his head on your thighs as you stroke his hair.
The Duke leans over Antonius, and pressing a kiss to his shoulder, whispers, “Are we ready to begin?” The other man nods vigorously.
You lie back and rest your hands on his shoulders as he starts to nip gently at your thighs. You growl as he purposely avoids your sex and you feel him smile against your heated skin.
The Duke places one hand on Antonius’ hip and then, taking a hold of his own beautiful cock with his free hand, lines himself up to the other man’s entrance. He pushes in and both men let out the most loveliest of moans, their sound going straight to your core.
While Antonius’ mouth is still gasping in pleasure, you shift so that when he brings his face back down, he gets a mouthful of all you. He licks at your folds tentatively, and then dives in, sucking gently on your clit. Your fingers tighten in his curls, pushing his face further into you, forcing his skillful tongue deeper inside you.
Writhing against the pillows, your lower half rises off the bed. You hear The Duke’s throaty laugh, feeling him start to thrust into Antonius. Every move they both make pushes the three of you tighter together.
Every glorious moan, groan and gasp The Duke draws from the beautiful man between you, is immediately felt by you. The headboard behind you rocks in concert with the three of you as you’re pushed back against it.
As The Duke’s thrusts speed up, it forces Antonius’ mouth even deeper inside you. The sensations of their bodies moving and the feel of your war prize’s talented tongue are overwhelming and yet not enough.
Tugging on Antonius’ hair, you yell out, “Wait, please!” Both men instantly freeze, looking worried. You put your hand to your chest and catch your breath for a moment. Grabbing your handsome prize’s face, you growl, “I need more.”
The concern on their faces is replaced by relief. You place a hand on Antonius’ cheek and say, “I want you to fuck me. Fuck me, while he fucks you.” Both men moan and Antonius smiles sharply, briefly looking back at The Duke before turning back to you.
“As our queen commands.”
The Duke shifts and Antonius pitches forward to cover your body with his. The sight of the pair of them leaning over you, both ready to service each other and you is breathtaking. You have a feeling you won’t last long.
You put your arms around Antonius’s neck and moan as you feel the tip of his cock brush against your clit. The Duke reaches over him to brush your cheek with his fingers.
“Are you ready, My Queen?”
Pressing your nose into the side of Antonius' neck, you sigh, “Yes, my beautiful boys.” The Duke pulls himself out of Antonius and then slams back in all the way, pushing Antonius deeper into you as your body rises to meet his.
The three of you continue to thrust together, finding a deliciously beautiful rhythm. After a while, The Duke’s movements start to become erratic, with Antonius’ own becoming stuttered as well, bringing you ever closer to edge.
And then, the domino effect is instantaneous. The Duke comes with a shout, grabbing onto both of Antonius’ hips for support. You feel the man himself pulse hot and hard into his sheath deep inside you, crying out softly into the side of your neck. This causes you to dig your nails into his shoulders as you tip over the edge, throwing your head back against the cushions. He continues to thrust a few more times as you shake through your powerful orgasm.
The Duke pulls out of Antonius with a hiss as he collapses onto the bed. Antonius slips out of you gently and then lays his head on your chest to stare up at you reverently as you card your fingers through his sweat-slick curls. You reach over to lace The Duke’s fingers with the ones of your free hand.
As you all lie there and catch your breath, you’re awestruck at how beautifully wrecked they both are, certain that you look much the same. In a few moments you’ll all have to move to clean up. Perhaps a nice bubble bath for three will be just the thing.
********************
Just before dawn, with Antonius fast asleep at your side, you wake to see The Duke sliding out of bed to retrieve his robe. He comes around to kiss your hand.
“Thank you for the unexpected and most pleasant evening, My Queen. With regret, I must ask that you allow me to take my leave of you both.”
Sitting up and mindful of the man asleep beside you, you murmur, “Of course you have my permission. What is so pressing that requires you to head out so early?”
The Duke glances at Antonius and then back to you before he says softly, “I have received word of where Antonius’ former queen may be hiding out. If the reports are true, she is not far away. I believe my men and I can recapture her today.”
Scowling, you nod. “Go. She shall pay for what she forced him to do. Do not bring her back here. My dungeon is far too good for her.”
The Duke smiles sharply, understanding your meaning. “Before we arrived, I sent word to the Keepers of The Cave. They will no doubt be making preparations for her extended stay. Once I have recaptured her, be rest assured, My Queen, that Queen Cressida shall never see the light of day again for the rest of her cursed life.”
Your own smile matches his as you first look down at your sleeping prize and then back up to The Duke and say, “Good.”

Istg each time I read your username, I start associating Graves a bit more with huskies. His fursona is a husky huehehuehehe
On another note, I am here to bring before you another offering, oh great one. Indeed, it is another dead bird! Oh what wonder! Oh what joy this bird shall bring! Can you tell I‘m writing this way too late at night? Also, ohoho?! A college au? I‘m all ears, please do tell once you’re ready. 👀
I kinda wanted to write a first meeting for the "Graves moves to Las Almas when he’s young and meets Alejandro" au, so I did. It took me a bit, but still. Btw just as a question, would it be alright for me to post the dark au drabble on ao3 and put a link to your art in the description? I kinda wanna contribute to the tag over there, but do horribly with any kind of fic longer than 1k words.
Well anyways, enjoy!
The sun beat down onto the dusty streets relentlessly. Alejandro kicked a pebble into the gutter and smirked victoriously at his best friend, who simply rolled his eyes. "Maybe if you had skills like me, Valeria would be interested in you, hermano." He evaded the other’s vicious attack and cackled, not letting up his teasing. "After last week’s mess up in English class, you might want to actually impress her."
Rudy just tried to hit the back of his head again, his face red as a beet. "Cállate, cabrón! You’re the worst- and I wasn’t even trying to impress her!"
By Ale‘s shit eating grin it was clear that he didn’t believe a word his friend said. With a sigh and a shake of his head, Rudy merely looked away, ignoring the other’s laugh.
They soon arrived at school, a few students mingling about in the sparsely shadowed yard, an escape from the heat provided only by the school roof‘s overhang and dry looking trees. Classes would start soon anyways, so they didn’t bother finding a place to sit outside, making their way towards their classroom. It was an old school, the hallways a squeaky linoleum, but some of the rooms themselves still had floorboards just like their‘s did. They creaked when you put too much weight on them or took any kind of step. Alejandro did take a step backwards when he first crossed the threshold. In the back of the room, next to the window, sat someone he‘d never seen in any of his classes before. The stranger had short, sand coloured hair and, most importantly, Alejandro noted, the bluest eyes staring right at him. Instantly, he was aware of his appearance, how his hair just wouldn’t lie right today, his shirt that definitely wasn’t a bad one but also not his nicest, that he probably looked stupid just standing there-
"Huh, I didn’t know we‘d get a new student this year", Rudy noted nonchalantly, as if there wasn’t a cute guy sitting on Alejandro’s assigned seat, and stepped around his frozen form blocking part of the doorway. He made his way over to the guy. "Hey, you’re new, right? I‘m Rudy."
The stranger shook the offered hand and introduced himself. "Phillip, how‘s it going?" His American accent was strong, Alejandro noticed, and sadly very charming. Rudy smiled politely.
"I’m good, thanks, I just wanted to ask if Señora Rivera told you to sit here?" Before Phillip could answer, Alejandro had stridden over and motioned to the seat he was occupying. "That’s mine. You can’t sit here." What a great way to talk to the cute new guy; he wished the ground would just open up and swallow him whole.
Said guy also didn’t like his tone and crossed his arms, leaning back in the chair. "I got this seat assigned, so fuck off." Before anyone else could be insulted, the teacher stepped into the room, hair pulled back tight and gaze sharp.
"Ah, Vargas, Parra, good to see you‘re already getting acquainted with our newest addition. I was hoping you two would show him around after class; we don’t want him to get lost on the first day, do we? Your new seats are one to the left." Just a quickly as she had entered, she had left, some papers in her hands, probably to go copy them like always, leaving Phillip and Alejandro staring at each other, one smug, the other angry. Rodolfo sighed, sensing a headache from a mile away.
teehee i was thinking more of a husky wolf mix cuz my man is edgy like that but also riddled with adhd. yes i was thinking about it. why and don't worry im answering this at like 5am sipping on my coffee cuz insomnia and i decided might as well pull an all nighter and do some work but im here now instead lol also yes omg of course you can post it!! giggling excitedly. but also like yeah me too damn😭 i barely post anything i write because it's always tiny drabbles i wrote at 3am for a bunch of different ideas stuck forever in my notes and google docs lol
anyway. i fucking adore you i hope you know that.
i love ale and rudy's banter at the beginning it's so sweet i just ughhh this is how i always imagined their friendship and this is absolutely how they would be in their younger days. like are you even friends if you don't bully each other from time to time
also the way ale instanly starts mentally assessing if he looks good and cool enough because he wants this cute new guy to like him and then immediately fails miserably 😭😭 he's so pathetic i love him and the way they start off very wrong and rudy is already so done with it. and the way ale was just bullying rudy for failing to impress val and the next moment he tremendously fucks up trying to impress graves lmao

PAABITB had gone radio silent for a while and part of me hoped that she actually changed and was starting to do better, but she seems to have come back exactly the way she was, so I guess she must've just found a more private outlet to spew her toxicity, most likely with like-minded fandom scum who's just as bad as her.
Yeah, not only has been more active on her private Twitter and Tumblr from what my followers say, but it turns out that now, she’s uploading videos to YouTube lecturing the fandom on how to act. In fact, she uploaded one almost two weeks ago. Let’s go over it, shall we?
And before any of you act like I’m the one stalking her, just know that she still follows my blog while I’m still blocked from directly responding to her.
Also, she’s still smeared me in the past, in addition to some of the more prominent users in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom.
So yeah, if she can act like the fandom police to other users, I don’t see why I can’t give PAABITB a taste of her own medicine. Ready for a thorough rebuttal to her latest attack on the fandom from yours truly?
“Alright, we need to talk, Miraculous fandom. I get it. I seriously do. At one point, we were all naive, oblivious, and unaware of what we hated or liked. But honestly? How some of you deny or say Adrigami doesn’t work, but think Marigami works is insensitive and disgusting.”
Oh my God, people are shipping different characters together? That’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen!
How many times are you going to say that it’s perfectly okay to belittle other people for their different views regarding ships while you keep acting like anyone who doesn’t ship Adrigami is a terrible human being?
“Seriously. I’m sick and tired of this. I’m seriously sick and tired of this. Not to mention you believe what the show writers tell you. You fall into their brainwashing, and look where it gets you: Nowhere.”
“Brainwashing”? What, do you think Mr. Big is in charge of broadcasting the show? Do you think anyone who doesn’t ship the Love Square is kidnapped by ZAG employees and is subjected to the same kind of torture Winston got in 1984?
No matter what you think of the writing of the show, whether you think it’s getting better or worse, I wouldn’t say they’re actually trying to “brainwash” viewers. Yes, a recurring problem is the way they try to act like certain plot elements have always been there (Ladybug mistreating Cat Noir, Marinette not being in love with Luka, Adrien and Marinette being best friends, Marinette giving Adrien a lot of advice), but I don’t think “brainwashing” is the best way to describe it.
And so what if some people still enjoy the show? It wouldn’t have five seasons if nobody liked it, wouldn’t it? The main idea behind the “Miraculous Ladybug salt” tag is so that people who are more critical about the show can discuss it without upsetting anyone who has a more positive outlook on it, because even some of the biggest salters know that not everyone can share the same opinion.
I don’t think I can speak for everyone else, but I wouldn’t call anyone who still enjoys the show “brainwashed”.
“Stop believing in them. They are not going to do anything good, and when they do, they always find a way to make it about someone that it’s not about them. You have an Adrigami episode back in Season 4, ‘Lies‘; somehow make it about Marinette because of that stupid lucky charm. Not only is that insensitive to Adrigami shippers, it’s insensitive to people who enjoy Adrien’s character.”
How the hell was Marinette the reason Adrien and Kagami broke up?
The lucky charm in the episode wasn’t important because Marinette made it. The whole point of the charm was that Adrien lied about losing it, and Kagami realized it when she had it. Adrien had to lie about losing the charm in order to come up with an excuse to fight an Akuma as Cat Noir, and as far as Kagami sees it, he’s just coming up with excuses not to spend time with her for more selfish reasons. If Adrien said he lost his wallet when Kagami saw it on the ground, the context for the situation wouldn’t change at all.
“I don’t know why you believe in the show writers doing well, but you need to break out of that shell of reluctance, and actually stand up, break out, and tell the show writers off, or at least, admit they aren’t good at writing.”
“Why can’t anyone who enjoys Miraculous Ladybug admit the writers are terrible at their jobs?” - You.
Again, I know that I see the show in a different way than a lot of the other fans online, but I don’t let my problems with the show prevent others from enjoying it. The “Miraculous Ladybug salt” tag exists for a reason.
“Because I am sick and tired of Adrigami being slandered and Marigami taking over. I’m all for gay ships, but Marigami? No. After how Marinette treated Kagami in the past, just no.”
I’m not really sure what that has to do with the writers, seeing how Adrigami isn’t mentioned at all after “Mr. Pigeon 72”, and there isn’t any real teasing for Kagami being in love with Marinette.
Also, you’re acting like Marinette still hates Kagami with a burning passion, when you forgot that Marinette felt bad about how she treated Kagami in the past after learning how she had no friends (Ikari Gozen), and even tried to get her back together with Adrien when she learned they broke up (Mr. Pigeon 72).
“And another thing; I’m really freaking sick and tired of how people say ‘Oh, the Kwamis are aroace’. That was never confirmed. All Tikki said is ‘Kwamis don’t fall in love’. She didn’t say they can’t fall in love. Maybe you don’t project or jump to conclusions so quickly, because the show writers are not good at what they do.”
Are... Are you really in a position to say that? What does that even have to do with the writers?
Again, what’s wrong with people headcanoning Tikki and Plagg as aroace? Is it because you ship the two? Because newsflash, people can have different opinions on certain characters when it comes to romance and shipping.
“I haven’t seen a show fall this badly since... Well, I would say Star vs., but honestly, Fairly OddParents kind of fell off when they decided not to do something that easily could have been done, but besides that.”
You mean not introduce a bunch of pointless new characters to boost ratings? Not make three movies starring Drake Bell? Not make a live-action reboot that’s somehow worse than the aforementioned movies starring Drake Bell? Let me know when I’m getting warmer.
“Adrien could be better off with anyone that’s not Marinette, at least in the canon show: Kagami, Zoe Lee, Chloe (if we go from Season 2), Lila (if we go from Season 1, kind of), Wayhem, Nino, Luka, anyone around his age who actually interacts with him only a little bit. And yet, it’s still more cuter than when Marinette’s like ‘Oh, Adrien. Let’s have a frickin future with three kids and a hamster’.”
Okay, let me get this straight. You’re so against Marinette that not only are you unwilling to forgive her actions in canon, you think that Chloe and Lila, two people who have violated Adrien’s personal boundaries, would be better for Adrien than Marinette, as well as Wayhem, a crazed stalker who is arguably more obsessed with Adrien than Marinette is?
Yes, Marinette’s behavior regarding Adrien is unhealthy, and yes, it needs to be addressed more, but if you’re so against how Marinette treats Adrien, then why are you okay with the way Chloe, Lila, and Wayhem treat Adrien when they all can be just as bad, if not worse in some areas?
“Just understand this: If you think Kagami’s character got better because she became softer towards Marinette, you don’t appreciate what strictness and bluntness are, and probably might be a bit of a pushover, and need to learn to stand up for yourself.”
Wow, you’re really just going to go out on a limb and belittle anyone who actually likes the idea of Kagami and Marinette becoming friends, aren’t you?
Are you sure you actually appreciate Kagami’s blunt nature because of how it fit her personality, or because said bluntness just so happened to be directed towards Marinette in Seasons 2 and 3? What about in “Lies”, when she was “blunt” and “strict” about how upset she was with Adrien when she dumped him. And yes, for someone who hates what Marinette does in canon, you seem to forget that canonically, Kagami dumped Adrien.
“However, if you are in a difficult situation with a family who doesn’t understand the best of your frustrations, you probably should take your time before confronting the problem. Never confront the problem if you don’t know what to do. I learned that the hard way as a kid, I really did.”
Oh my God, just say the rules don’t apply to Adrien already. We all know that’s why you said that after supposedly calling Kagaminette shippers “pushovers”, because you’re aware of how Adrien rarely stands up to his father, and don’t want to look like a hypocrite... Well, more of a hypocrite than you already are.
“Just to say it, I don’t hate Chloe, and I don’t hate Zoe. I believe in what Deneen Melody said about them being like sisters.”
Not sure what that has to do with Kagaminette, the Kwamis being aroace, or Kagami’s “bluntness”, but I find it funny that you’re willing to drag Marinette for her canon actions, yet don’t hold Chloe responsible for her actions. I’m a huge advocate for Chloe redemption, and even I don’t defend the stuff she did after Season 3.
“So yeah, stop hating on characters who don’t deserve to be hated, and stop shipping things that shouldn’t be shipped.”
Mind defining what warrants hating a character in your eyes, besides being named Marinette Dupain-Cheng? And outside of incest or pedophilia, can you please explain why there are ships that shouldn’t be shipped?
Oh wait, I get it now! You’re saying that you want people to like the same characters you like, hate the same characters you hate, ship the same ships you ship, and hate the same ships you don’t hate! I cracked the case!
I know this might sound like a major revelation, but it’s entirely possible for people to have different opinions and still get along, especially when it comes to fandom stuff. You seriously think you can police the fandom and shame them into going along with your views because you say so?
Whenever I talk about Miraculous Ladybug, while I make my views clear in my posts, I always try to make sure other people can chime in through asks and give their own opinions, because that is how we as a society express our individuality. The whole reason I started this blog in the first place was to call out Astruc for telling us to view the show in certain way. For someone who thinks we shouldn’t respect the writers at all (something I haven’t even said once, by the way), how does that make you any better?
And if you think I’m wrong, prove it. Unblock me and try to back up your claims here, so we can both talk about this like adults. I’m willing to at least try and hear you out after everything you’ve said in the past.

Runaway train | Obey Me x reader

Fandom: Obey Me! Shall we date Rating: General Word Count: 6.900 Genre: Slice of Life | Drama | Hurt/Comfort | Angst Additional tags: choking Summary: When the truth of your ancestor came out, you were surprised. You couldn’t say you expected it, but … for some reason it felt weird. Finding out your ancestor long ago was an angel and that a very small part of you is somehow related to the demons confused you. But you accepted that. You accepted the truth and helped the brothers come to accept it as well. It was hard, especially for Belphegor and Beelzebub, but eventually they did. And a part of you already expected for them to compare you to her. Notes: So this one has been in my drafts for far too long and it’s, in a way, based on a real thing too. Sometimes, if not most of the time, I get called by a different name, which I dismiss completely, but then I wondered what if and this story came. It’s been a long time since I posted anything for Obey Me! Fandom, so I hope I’m not too out of the form..
What you didn’t expect was for it to hurt. You knew them as nothing but demons, for who they showed you to be. But the brothers? You could see those gazes that lingered on you for a second too long, those gentle and warm smiles they sent your way before they disappeared. It hurt. You couldn’t tell them, but it hurt, because they didn’t see you for who you were, but for your ancestor.
But that was okay. It was okay, because at least they were talking to you, still treating you like a normal human being. It was okay, wasn’t it?
You were sitting beside Barbatos in the Student Council Room, talking about the exchange program. Simeon, Luke and Solomon were sitting not too far away, adding what you might have missed. Out of seven brothers, only Satan was present. It didn’t surprise you, since Satan mostly accompanied you from one place to another while others continued to do their own thing.
You felt your phone ring in your pocket, announcing a message. While the rest talked, you took the chance to check, having a hunch it must have been from Mammon. And indeed it was.
Hey wanna come with me later?
You raised an eyebrow, wondering what he was up to now. With a small smile, you quickly typed your answer, accepting it.
If only you wouldn't get your hopes up.
If you were honest to yourself, you were just waiting for it. Waiting for one of them to slip up. You wondered who would be first; one of the twins? Or would it be Lucifer, who you know he still feels regret to this day.
Lilith.
The moment the name slipped off his tongue and not even realising his mistake, was perhaps what hurt the most. You wanted to correct him, saying that no your name wasn’t Lilith, but you couldn’t bring yourself to make that gentle expression disappear. Not now after so many months of him finally opening up to you.
“It’s just one time.” you told yourself. “Just one time.”
Yet it was one too many times, because the second time came and then the third and it went on, until you couldn’t take it anymore.
Perhaps they took you for granted, thinking you wouldn’t be angry, upset that they misspoke your name. They’re demons after all, perhaps that day still lingers in their mind like some do in yours. You remained quiet through this all. And perhaps because Satan was the only one to call you by your name that you spent more and more time with him instead. It wasn’t fair, you knew that, but you couldn’t help but feel hurt that they never apologised.
“Are you okay?”
You feel Satan’s eyes on you as you sit on an armchair in his room. You’re reading one of Devildom's history books and if it weren’t for his sudden question that startles you, you would have ignored him completely.
Raising your head, a smile spreads across your lips. “Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You’ve been acting strange ever since you came back with Mammon two weeks ago.” He doesn’t look away from you and you know he knows why. After all, the brothers aren’t very subtle about calling you Lilith. “Want to talk about it?”
“No.” You answer much too quickly for your comfort. Wincing at your own brashness, you close the book and sigh. “I’m used to getting my names changed.” You force a smile and something in Satan’s eyes changes, because you look away instead, not liking how he’s looking at you with sadness. “Don’t look at me like that.” you grit your teeth.
“I won’t apologise in their stead.” He says and you hear the book closing before he stands up and walks to one of the many bookshelves. “What they’re doing is not okay, but you must stand up for yourself as well.” You look at his back, staring at him. “The longer you let them, the more they’ll do it. You must draw a line, [Name].”
It feels so odd being called by your name that it makes your chest ache. “I’m not exactly the type to correct someone…” you murmur more to yourself.
“You’ll continue to be hurt by them.”
He’s right. You know he’s right, but no matter how much you try to correct them, you can't let those smiles disappear. “I’m fine…” you whisper.
Satan turns his head to look at you. He stares at you for a moment before he turns back in front. “You’re always welcomed here.” He says instead and you feel your eyes sting from sudden tears.
You’re sobbing, trying to catch a breath, almost to no avail. Hiding in one of the empty classrooms at RAD, you tried to be as quiet as you could be, yet it still seems like luck wasn’t on your side. Someone calls your name and you realise it a bit too late to see Diavolo standing on the doorway. Right beside Lucifer. Something flashes through Lucifer’s eyes and he moves forward before he stops abruptly like he just realised something.
“I-I’m sorry…” It’s unusual for him to stutter, but he turns and leaves instead.
Not once does he look back.
You grip your uniform, biting on your lower lip enough to draw out blood, as you try hard to control your sobs. Diavolo is by your side in a second along with Simeon and Luke, for whom you’re not sure where they came from. You hear Luke asking what’s wrong, what happened, why Lucifer left in a hurry, but you couldn’t answer him, because all you could see was Lucifer’s disappointment, his regret, shame. Why couldn’t he approach you? Was he thinking you were Lilith and when he realised he left? Did you really mean nothing to him?
“H-home…” you whisper, wrapping your arms around yourself. “I-I wanna g-go home…”
Diavolo and Simeon exchange a glance, but they don’t say a word. Along the way Barbatos comes and the two angels accompany you back to the House of Lamentation. Part of you expects to see one of the brothers there, but there’s no one. You’re not even sure why you expected anyone to be there. Ever since you came to Devildom, you were alone. Even Solomon was different from you even if he’s a human. You can’t exactly call any of them your friends, but they’re not just classmates either.
Once you’ve calmed down, it’s Barbatos who approaches you in the living room where you’re sitting. It’s quiet, too quiet for your liking, yet you can’t bring yourself to call for anyone. Simeon and Luke had to go back to the Academy for a meeting that Diavolo suddenly called upon, so you’re left alone.
“I’ve brought some tea. Would you like some?”
You look at the demon in front of you and smile, giving a small nod.
Barbatos returns the smile before he disappears into the kitchen. Not wanting to be alone, you follow him and sit down by the counter instead. You observed him so many times, yet his elegance continues to amaze you.
“Thank you,” you smile when he places a cup in front of you.
“You’re welcome,” he replies without hesitation as he sits in front of you, a cup in front of him as well.
There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you and you’re not exactly sure what he’s doing here. You can only guess.
“Would you like to go home?” Barbatos is the first to break the silence.
His question makes your eyes wide and you choke on tea, coughing seconds later.
“I-I’m sorry?” you stutter, looking at him.
“I didn’t mean to startle you.” He apologises, looking slightly embarrassed. He hands you a handkerchief that you slowly take, like you’re unsure. “Lord Diavolo wanted me to ask you if you want to go back to the human realm. He noticed something was odd and found you in the classroom, he worries you might feel homesick.”
Averting your gaze, the corners of your lips twitch. You remain silent for a moment before you look directly into his eyes and smile. If you get the chance, you won’t let it slip away. “Yes, I’d like that if it’s not too troublesome.”
Barbatos nods in understanding as silence becomes almost too deafening. At least you can focus on the cup, leaving Barbatos to the silence until he speaks. His voice is quiet, filled with understanding and you wonder if he saw your future.
"Wherever you'll be, you can always call for Lord Diavolo or me."
You meet his eyes and there’s sympathy and warmth in his gaze that makes your chest tight and eyes fill with tears. Barbatos moves before you realise it and he’s embracing you.
Your throat is slowly closing in on you and you feel your eyes burn from the tears you’re hardly holding back. You shut your eyes and hug him back, your hands shaking with realisation dawning on you.
“Thank you…” you whisper into the crook of his neck.
Being back home feels … odd, yet at the same time you have never felt happier than in that same moment you walk through the front door. There's noise and you see your mom cooking, completely startled by the door opening. She's looking at you like she has just seen a ghost. There are tears in your eyes and you're running to her, embracing like your life is depending on it.
You feel the pacts burn in your skin and emotions are overwhelming you that makes you feel like suffocating if it weren't for the small circles on your back that let you know you're home.
There's anger and yells, voices overlapping each other all while Diavolo and Simeon stand there, their expressions telling everything they need to know. Excuses are spoken, blame pointed at the one person that isn't there and it takes just a small amount for the wrath to be felt to the deepest corners of hell.
There's silence, heads lowered in shame and regret. No one dares to say anything, but Satan.
“How is [Name]?”
Anyone could see brothers flinching while Lucifer tries to be as expressionless as ever. But both Simeon and Diavolo know the oldest brother wasn’t fine with the situation either.
For a moment there's silence before Simeon speaks; “They’re happier.”
“Are you suggesting they weren’t happy here?” Mammon glares at the angel.
“Tell me something.” Satan says, his eyes focusing on the latter. All attention falls on him, including Lucifer’s. “In the last three months, how many times have all of you spent some alone time with them?”
Everyone is looking at Satan confused, except for Diavolo and Simeon.
“What do you mean?” Beelzebub asks.
Satan looks directly at Lucifer. “After that incident, how many times have you seen them?”
Lucifer narrows his eyebrows before he looks away, refusing to look at anyone.
Turning to Mammon, Satan continues; “How many times have you called them by a name of a person, who has been dead for centuries?”
The silence that falls upon the room is deafening.
“What are you talking about, Satan?” Luke’s quiet voice breaks the tension the moment he walks inside with Solomon and Barbatos.
No one dares to look at Satan, less alone at Luke or Simeon. Lucifer refuses to look at Diavolo, but feels his eyes on him.
“What do you mean by that?” Luke repeats. “Their name is [Name] and [Name] alone. They don’t have any other name. They shouldn’t have another name, unless they alone decided to change it. But they didn’t or they would tell us. Wouldn’t they, Simeon?” The young angel looks at his friend and protector, who sadly smiles.
“I wonder.” Satan scoffs. “How many times have you called them Lilith unconsciously?”
“What?” Luke’s eyes widen and he looks from one brother to another, his eyes lingering on Beelzebub the most. “But you didn’t, right?” he takes a step towards Lucifer, eyes now focusing on him. “Satan is wrong.” He looks directly at Mammon, who’s turned away, but Luke could see the way he’s gritting his teeth and balling a fist by his side.
“Luke,” Simeon calls softly.
The angel turns his way. “Is that why [Name] left?” his voice is quiet, but the venom and coldness heard in it sends chills down their spine.
“I’m afraid so.” He agrees and looks at Satan.
“Oh…” Luke lowers his head before he leaves without a word.
Simeon closes his eyes and sighs. He sees the way Beelzebub is looking at him and says; “He was supposed to find out eventually either way.”
“Should you leave him alone?” Belphegor asks, eyes lingering on the doorway.
“He can handle himself.” The angel smiles. He looks at Diavolo and Solomon, continuing; “I will leave Devildom for a couple of days. I hope you don’t mind accompanying me, Solomon and Satan.”
“Of course not.” Solomon smiles and looks at Satan, who nods with a huff.
“Don’t worry about the exchange and focus on your work.” Diavolo agrees.
“Did they really leave because of us?” Leviathan speaks as he meddles with his fingers. “Was it truly because we called them Lilith? But it was done unconsciously. We didn’t mean to do it on purpose. It wasn’t on purpose. Why didn’t they correct us? We wouldn’t if they did.”
Satan’s expression changes.
“But they did at first.” Barbatos answers. “They told you their name wasn’t Lilith but [Name]. Yet you brushed it aside like it meant nothing.”
Diavolo looks at Lucifer, who’s gritting his teeth. “What did you see that time, Lucifer?” The said demon looks at him. “In the classroom. Who did you see? Was it [Name]? Or was it Lilith?”
Sitting on a balcony you listen to Luke ramble as he’s comfortably sitting on your lap, his arms wrapped around you. Your mother is inside, preparing dinner when the doorbell rings. A smile spreads across your lips before you laugh at Luke, who immediately straightens up the moment he hears Simeon’s voice.
Instead of letting the angel sit back on his own chair, you embrace him tighter, refusing to let him go.
“Ah, no! Lemme go, [Name], Simeon has come!” Luke is pouting.
“Don’t wanna.” You shake your head.
You hear Simeon’s chuckle when he stands on the doorway of the balcony. Your mother is saying something from inside, but you don’t hear her clearly for the children, who pass just below the balcony are running and screaming.
“Hello,” Simeon greets you and you look at him. “It’s been a while.”
“It has been.” You agree.
Simeon steps outside, his eyes focusing on the children as well as Luke, who gave in on his demise. “It’s always so lively when I visit.”
“It is.” You laugh and brush Luke’s hair from his forehead. He’s quiet, his attention on the string from your hoodie, but there’s no doubt that he’s also listening to your talk. “It’s quite a change from the Devildom.”
For a moment Simeon remains silent, watching the children. “Do you truly want to go through with the plan?” Turning your way, his eyes find yours in a second.
“Yes,” you don’t hesitate to answer. Luke stills his movement and looks at you. “I’ll be alright.”
“You won’t be.” Simeon says. “A part of your soul will be gone along with their pacts. There’s also a possibility you might lose some memories if all seven pacts are gone in that same moment.”
“Then that’s even better.”
“[Name].” he says your name sternly.
“What do you expect me to do, Simeon?” you sigh. “Have they asked you how I am? Where am I? Have they even bothered to think of visiting me? All I feel through their pacts is anger. Even Satan hasn’t sent a letter, less alone a message, since he visited the last time. Does he also blame me for what I'm about to do?”
“No,” Simeon is quick to shake his head. “If anything they’re too prideful to even check up on you.” he goes with his hand through his hair, looking away.
You chuckle at that, expecting it. Yet it still hurt hearing it. Closing your eyes, you take in a deep breath, releasing Luke, who straightens up. You can feel his eyes on you, but instead you look away, afraid to see the pity in his eyes.
“Here you go.” Your mother appears on the doorway, holding a cup of tea in her hands.
Simeon smiles and takes it with gratitude before she disappears back inside. Your heart aches at the sight of your mother. While you didn’t tell her the whole truth – of angels and demons being real instead of only a legend and myth – you told her enough to know that something happened, that you refused to return to the exchange program.
“You know once we go through the procedure, you’ll need weeks, if not months, to recuperate.” Simeon turns to face you. “You won’t be able to remain here in the town.”
“I don’t mind.” you shake your head. “I have an uncle living at the farm. He has a small cottage near-by, so I can stay there.”
Simeon is staring at you, but doesn’t say a word unlike Luke; “But do you truly want to?” His voice is quiet and you look at him. You spot tears in his eyes and you unconsciously reach out to caress his cheek.
“I’ll be okay…” you smile.
You start to believe your own lies.
It’s like every normal day in Devildom. Everything seems to be like in the past, before you came as an exchange student. Each brother kept themselves in their own rooms, not one bothering to check up on you.
Except for one.
Mammon is pacing up and down in his bedroom, biting on his thumb. His eyebrows are furrowed and the longer he thinks and wonders and worries, the more he’s doubtful to go through with his plan.
It’s been two months since you left, since you felt “homesick” and you still haven’t returned back. Mammon knows he messed it up. He knows you’re not Lilith, his fallen sister, but he didn’t know how big the consequences were when he called you by that name. He knows it didn’t happen once, but a couple of times, but he couldn’t help himself. Not when you looked like a lost puppy, just like his sister.
He massages his left wrist, feeling sadness and regret before it tingles. He scratches it when his heart skips a bit when the black lines like vines appear. His eyes widen, because even if he forgot what this moment means, it's still fresh in his memory from when it happened.
"No…" Mammon murmurs to himself and begins shaking his head all while digging nails into his wrist. "No, no, no…" he's chanting, but those same vines begin to disappear along with the emotions he felt just a moment ago.
Suddenly he feels empty, like an empty shell that once held something warm and gentle inside. He feels tears threaten to spill and before he knows it, he's running out of his bedroom and down the hallway. He hears Beelzebub in the background, asking where he's running to, but Mammon doesn't have time to stop and tell him.
It's seconds before it completely disappears that he rushes into Lucifer's room all breathless only to show him the last marks of the pact. Lucifer's eyes focus on it and narrows his eyebrows. He stands up, ready to speak, but he alone is forced to a stop when he feels it.
It starts like a tingle that spreads throughout his whole body until it reaches the inner side of his left wrist and stops there. He watches the black ink of a white side of the yang appear. It lingers for a moment and Lucifer can feel the doubt you might feel for a split second and before he can take action it begins to disappear.
His eyes are wide at the sight. He's frozen on the spot as he watches. Mammon is mumbling something, but Lucifer couldn't care more, because it's the sadness and pain that he feels the last before it disappears. It leaves him bare of any emotion, struggling to breathe until Mammon holds him. He stumbles and looks at his younger brother for answer, yet what greets him is nothing but the realisation that they messed up badly.
By the middle of the day, the whole house of Lamentation is in turmoil. The brothers are talking over each other, asking for your whereabouts, trying to contact you, but Lucifer is lost. He doesn’t know where you are, less alone how to contact you after you left your D.D.D back in the Devildom.
Lucifer recalls Diavolo’s question and shame fills him to the last core. He doesn’t dare to admit it, but he knows Diavolo is right. He should have apologised that day when it happened, and told his brothers to mind what they’re saying. If it wasn’t intentional, he should have prevented it somehow.
But then again, a part of him also blamed you. Refusing to take the whole blame upon his shoulders, when you could have corrected them as much as he could. And if anything it was that emotion alone that made Lucifer just a bit angrier at you than at his brothers. If you didn’t answer when they called you by a different name, it wouldn’t have gotten this far. You wouldn’t leave them. You could have stayed by their side, laughing with them.
Yet instead you remained silent as you took all of it in.
“My, my, what’s with so much noise.” Solomon’s voice makes the arguments quiet down.
“Solomon!” Asmodeus’ eyes are wide like he just came up with an idea. “Solomon, my dear, you must know where [Name] had gone to.”
Solomon blinks with his eyes, confusion visible before it dawns on him. “No, I do not.” His answer is short and simple.
It confuses the brothers.
“But … didn’t you leave with Simeon and Satan?” Beelzebub murmurs.
Solomon turns his way, a smile present on his lips. “I did.” He agrees and just when Mammon is about to speak, he continues; “But we didn’t meet with them after that one time. I don’t know where they are.”
All attention turns to Satan, who silently shakes his head, raising his hands like he doesn’t know either. But Lucifer knows they’re lying and it only makes him angrier. They know exactly where you are.
“I thought you’d be different, brother of mine.” Satan speaks when he sees Lucifer’s expression darken.
“What do you mean?” he narrows his eyebrows.
“Although you haven’t called them Lilith directly, they could still see it clearly.”
Lucifer grits his teeth.
Satan looks at Solomon, who closes his eyes and sighs. “They don’t wish to be found.”
“You know where they are!?” Mammon raises his voice and steps closer to Satan.
“I might have before.”
“Before what?” Belphegor asks. “Does it have to do anything with our pacts?”
“Bingo.” The corners of Satan’s lips turn upwards in a taunting smirk.
“You knew they’d try to break our pacts?” Leviathan is confused. “Why didn’t you stop them if you knew? Who else knew? Were we the only ones in the dark?”
“We didn’t stop them because we couldn’t.” Solomon answers, glancing at Satan in case he said something too much. “The same day we wanted to visit them once more, they were already long gone. The only one who might have an idea where [Name] is, is Luke.”
“Luke?” Mammon is even more confused. “What does Luke have with all of this?”
“Don’t you know?” Satan laughs as if he’s mocking them. “Luke is their protector and he’s the one who decides who can visit and who not. You guys are definitely the last on the list if you even are on.”
“Does that mean we can’t … see [Name]?” Leviathan’s voice is quiet.
“Unless Luke says otherwise, then no.” Solomon answers.
“And Simeon?” Lucifer asks. “Where is he?” He looks behind the wizard, expecting the angel to come, but nothing.
“He’s beside Luke, teaching him.” Solomon says and walks over like he’s in his own house. He watches Lucifer’s expression, smiling when he notices the gaze in his eyes shift, but doesn’t say anything on it. Instead, he continues; “It is a bit unfortunate that Satan and I cannot visit them, as they have lost quite a lot of the soul and strength when they broke the pact all together.”
“W-what?” Beelzebub stutters as Belphegor’s eyes widen while the rest seem slightly confused aside from Lucifer and Asmodeus.
“They didn’t.” Belphegor is shaking his head as he takes a step forward. “They couldn’t have broken all pacts at the same time, unless–” He stops abruptly, freezing in the spot before his head snaps towards Lucifer.
“It’s too late now.” Satan sighs. “What is done is done, there’s nothing we can do.”
“You don’t understand!” Belphegor raises his voice, frustrated.
“Oh dear…” Asmodeus murmurs, hand covering his mouth.
“What’s wrong?” Leviathan and Beelzebub are looking from one to another until Leviathan focuses on Lucifer. “What’s Belphegor talking about, Lucifer?”
Lucifer’s eyes are closed when he sighs. “They had enormous power from the beginning.” he starts slowly. He looks at Solomon, who’s quietly standing there only to realise that he doesn’t have any intention of stopping him. He’s not exactly sure if he’s glad about that or not.
“Any normal wizard cannot break all the pacts on his own, be it human, demon or witch, it doesn’t matter.” Lucifer looks at Belphegor, who’s glaring at him, yet his eyes show completely different emotion. The same emotion he saw when their sister fell, when she died as a human – fear. “But [Name] has been … different from the very beginning. They could use their voice to command all seven of us at the same time, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that they could also break the pacts at the same time. All seven. But …” he’s hesitating.
“But what?” Leviathan asks.
“There is a price they must pay if they do so.” Lucifer sighs and glances at Solomon and Satan, hoping they would continue, yet they don’t have any intention of doing so.
“There’s a chance they might lose memories.” It’s Mammon who speaks. “It’s that, isn’t it?” he asks and steps forward. “Because it depends how powerful the demon is. So if the demon isn’t as strong, then the price for breaking the pact isn’t so severe. But if you break it with a powerful demon times seven, then …” he grits his teeth.
“It’s as Mammon said.” Satan agrees. “Despite being their ancestor, Lillith is gone.” He looks from one brother to another, all of them looking anywhere else. “You should have been glad, happy that Lillith lineage isn’t broken, yet here you are, always comparing them to each other. [Name] is a person as well, different from Lillith in many ways than just in name.”
You’re not sure how much time has passed. Finally being back on your feet, after months of recovering, you couldn’t have felt more glad and thankful to your uncle than you did during that time. No one from your family questioned you about the boy that was always around you, helping you.
“Luke,” Your voice is rather quiet when you call for the angel.
Sitting on the stairs of the porch, reading a book, the angel turns and looks at you. “What is it?” he asks and he’s on his feet, rushing to your side.
“I was wondering,” you start slowly, unsure if it’s a good idea. Luke doesn’t say anything, waiting for you to continue. “I wanna see them…” you breathe out, your eyes averting to the sky, more afraid of his reaction than anything. It was no secret how overprotective he was, and still is, of you.
There’s silence and you dare to look at him only to worry when his expression is nothing but frown.
“Do you want to?” he asks, eyes looking into yours like he wants to make sure you really want to.
You hesitate to answer.
Letting out a silent sigh, Luke closes the book, places it on his side before he stands up and walks over to you. You unconsciously shiver, feeling the calmness and the purity of his presence alone, yet it doesn’t seem like he has noticed. Or if he has, he doesn’t say anything about it.
“When you’re hesitating like this, I can’t allow it.” He’s looking into your eyes. You spot sadness that diminishes and you wonder when did he grow up so much. “Forgive me.”
A small smile spreads across your lips as you reach out to caress his cheek. “It’s alright. Thank you for staying by my side.” you say and a wide smile replaces his frown.
You should have listened to Luke when he told you to wait. You should have waited for him no matter how much you were tempted to go to a bookstore and the market. You should have waited.
But now you can’t help but notice the nails that are slowly digging themselves into your neck, your toes barely touching the ground as you try to free yourself from the tight grip the woman has on you. The air doesn’t seem to come, no matter how much you try to scratch the witch’s hand as she laughs at you. Suddenly the faces of Luke and Simeon appear in front of you, remembering their smiles and there’s Solomon, speaking and your eyes water.
“It took me so long to find you.”
You can barely hear her words, the pounding of your heart too loud in your ears.
“It was silly of you to disappear into a remote place like this. Hidden behind the angels,” she scoffed; “but no demon in sight. What a day when I already had a hard time hiding from Mammon.”
At the mention of the said demon, his blue eyes are the first thing you remember. You try to free yourself, but you’re still not completely healed.
It’s Solomon’s words in your head, from those years back, when he studied with you, that your lips part and your voice is barely heard;
“Hear…me…”
The witch narrows her eyebrows, staring at you.
“...denizens of-of darkness…”
“What’s this?” She raises an eyebrow.
“...y-you, who are bo-born of shadow and…you, w-who give birth to it…”
The witch’s lip twitches. “Are you trying to summon them?” she mocks you. “A useless human without powers?” she muses and tightens her grip on your neck as she leans closer. “Go on. Amuse me more.”
You look up into the sky, noticing how there’s not a single cloud in the vicinity. “H-hear me…a-and do as I c-co-command…” you start to feel your consciousness slowly fade. “I, [N-Name]...call u-upon you to-to send f-forth one…of-of your number…”
You see the sky shift and suddenly you find yourself kneeling on the ground, gasping for air and coughing. You’re holding your neck, eyes looking at the witch, who’s watching you with a wide smile on her lips. Before you can use the chance to crawl away, she holds for your ankle, kneeling just in front of you.
“Don’t do anything funny and end your summoning spell.” She licks the upper lip before she bites the lower one, her eyes boring into your soul.
“I…” For a moment you hesitate, yet you can’t help the shiver when her hand slowly wraps around your throat once again. “I summon the Avatar o-of Greed, M-Mammon!”
Silence that spreads, tells you everything.
Tears fill your eyes, no sign of a tingling sensation that you once felt. The witch watches you for a moment until her laughter fills every corner of your body. You should have known it would be futile. You don’t even know why you wanted to summon a demon.
Closing your eyes, you lean on your hands, head buried between them as you break. The witch continues to laugh like she just won the lottery.
“M-Mammon…” you whisper-call, desperate. “P-please …”
There’s a brush of wind that gives you goosebumps when a silent; “Huh?” reaches you.
The laughter you heard just a second ago, disappears.
“W-what?” the witch stutters. You don’t raise your head, feeling too tired to care. “T-that’s impossible!”
“[N-Name]?”
There’s an all too familiar voice and pair of hands holding you that wake you from the daze. Your eyes widen from fear and you try to push the person away, thinking it’s the witch, only to freeze when you meet with the same blue eyes you thought of before.
“M-Mammon?” You choke on your own word.
“How did you manage to summon him?!” The witch yells, making you flinch and unconsciously cling onto Mammon, trying to hide. “You lost all the powers you had, including the pacts! You shouldn’t be able to summon anyone!”
Mammon is quietly staring at you, noticing how you shiver and it’s not from the weather. Not when it’s warm in the human world, so it must have been the witch’s fault. He was just having the time of his life, ready to hit a jackpoint in the casino back in the Devildom only to feel a tingling that he hasn’t felt in a long time. Before he realised what happened, he was in the human world and all he heard was the laughter until he spotted you cowering on the floor, shivering.
And then he notices. A bruise on your cheek, red marks on your neck, turning a darker shade of purple and a wave of anger consumes him.
Your eyes are shut tight as are your ears that you don’t notice another breeze of wind, arms that disappear and some distant screams that cease a moment later.
Hands slowly touch your face. It’s the warmth of them that makes you slowly open your eyes. Tears that you tried so hard to hold back, stream down, seeing it’s Mammon, who’s kneeling in front of you. You don’t look for the witch, knowing he took care of her, because that’s what he promised when you were still in Devildom. He’ll always protect you.
Your eyes fall on his lips when you notice him speaking and slowly pull your hands away from ears.
“It’s okay…” his voice is quiet, like he’s afraid if he speaks louder, you’d disappear again. “You’re safe. The witch is gone.”
You can feel your shoulders slumber as you fall deeper into his embrace. Mammon wraps his arms around you and it’s not long before you completely break down.
Mammon’s heart aches at the sight. He has never seen you so beaten, so powerless. There’s no sign of any confidence that you used to emit, there’s no smile that always greeted him or a playful scolding when he did something stupid. There’s nothing but a broken shell of a someone, who you used to be, of a human that not a single thing could break you until …
Mammon comes to a stop, freezing as his eyes grow wider.
It’s their fault you became like this.
You’re sitting on the couch, back at the uncle’s house when you hear a panicked: “[Name]!” recognising Luke’s voice. In a second, he’s in front of you, looking over for any kind of bruise until he sees them on your neck. He stills, staring at them when his gaze turns into a glare and turns to Mammon.
“I-it’s not his fault!” You blurt out.
Both Luke and Mammon turn to look at you.
“Don’t excuse his actions.” Luke says, his expression that of a slight disappointment. You can’t blame him for thinking this way.
“Hey, what’s the big deal, huh?” Mammon speaks, his attention on the little angel. “I was summoned here. Summoned.”
“What?” Luke seems confused. “Who would summon you to the human world?” he scowls and crosses his arms while standing in front of you.
“I did…” your voice is quiet. The angel looks at you even more confused. “I-I don’t know how I did it, but a witch found me and apparently she had some kind of resentment against me.” you chuckle more to yourself. “I-I tried the summoning and somehow–it worked somehow.”
Luke is staring at you for a moment before he turns to Mammon. “What did you feel before you were summoned?”
His question throws both you and Mammon off guard. It felt like he knew this would happen.
It doesn’t take Mammon long to answer. “At first there was nothing,” Your heart broke at his words; “but then the place where the pact was started to burn a little and I felt that same tingling whenever I’m summoned.”
Luke pursues lips into a thin line as he listens, his arms still crossed.
“Luke?” you call quietly.
He doesn’t turn to you and you look at Mammon, who seems taken aback for some reason.
“What’s going on?” you ask, feeling more and more confused.
“Simeon warned me of this.” The angel starts slowly and looks at you. “He told me when you’ll be in danger, you will manage to summon them once again.”
“But…the pact was…broken.”
“Yes,” he nods, seeming like he’s deep in thoughts. “But at the same time, there are still some traces of it left behind.”
“How?” you ask and glance at Mammon, who’s too quiet.
“That…” Luke looks to the side. “Simeon has been trying to find out. Solomon once talked of this, but he himself didn’t know what it means.”
“I think I may know why…” Mammon murmurs.
Both you and Luke turn to look at him. He hesitates, but when he looks at you, you can see the guilt and regret in his eyes and you’re suddenly reminded why you wanted to break your pacts with them.
“Usually when we break our pacts with the summoner, it’s not one sided.” Mammon’s voice is rather quiet and it takes you a moment, but you quickly realise what he means. “I don’t think anyone knows, aside from us demons, but we can still feel the bond that connects us. Of course it depends on the strength of both the demon and the summoner.”
“So, you’re saying that because you didn’t agree, you can still be summoned?” Luke asks and Mammon nods. “But [Name] broke all pacts. It took part of their soul, their power and memories with them and they’re still able to summon you?”
Mammon winces at Luke’s words. It’s not the reaction you expected and you wonder what else he knows. Instead of saying anything, he simply nods.
“So, am I able to summon others as well?” you ask.
“I don’t know…” Mammon shrugs, unsure. “Ya had a pact with all seven of us and we’re not exactly some lower-class demons either.” For a moment he thinks, before he continues. “It also depends who yer first was. Ya might have trouble with the rest, since I didn’t feel it right away. There’s a chance they won’t feel anything at all.”
“Oh…” you murmur and lower your head.
“Do ya wanna see them?” Mammon asks and you look at him.
You don’t miss the way Luke shifts nervously, reaching for your hand unconsciously like he’s trying to change your mind just by his actions alone. “I…” you start, but stop, unsure what to say. “I don’t know…” you end up saying and Mammon nods in understanding as he looks away.
“Mammon,” you call quietly and he looks back at you. “I missed you…” you whisper.
A small smile spreads across his lips as he approaches you and kneels in front of you. He’s looking you directly into your eyes and you nibble on your lower lip, wondering what he’ll say. If he’s going to say anything at all.
“I’m sorry.”
Your eyes widen at his apology. His hands are holding on your legs and at first glance it seems like he’s holding onto them like he’s begging you for his own life.
“I’m sorry for calling ya Lilith. Ya didn’t deserve that and it was never our intention.”
You narrow your eyebrows.
“Ya remind us so much of her that whenever we saw ya, we felt so much regret for her we unconsciously began to call ya by her name. It might sound like an excuse to ya, but it’s the truth.” he stops and tightens his grip on your legs.
It seems so unlike him, yet the sincerity in his eyes is real, that much you know.
“I’m sorry as well.” you say and Mammon looks at you confused. “I could have corrected you so many times, but didn’t.”
“No,” he shakes his head. “Ya have, but we just … we continued. We were selfish. We wanted to have our little sister back so whenever we saw ya, we felt so much regret for not being able to protect her enough that we began to see her instead of ya. And whenever yer face appeared after we saw hers, we felt guilty, so we pretended yer her.”
You’re not sure what to say, if you even should say anything.
“I’m sorry, [Name].” he’s looking directly into your eyes.
You can see the sincerity in them. A small smile spreads across your lips that Mammon spots with his gaze when Luke clears his throat. Turning to look at the little angel, you caress his cheek, smiling softly.
“I’m okay…” you whisper.
This time Luke believes you and so do you.

the great adventures of y/n and ranboo
this is an extra part to the great adventures series
summary: part two to the angst imagine (the not so great adventures of y/n tommy tubbo jack and ranboo) it’s a happier ‘ending’ please read what is written in bold
this is an “alternative ending” around 15 years into the future this doesn’t mean this is actually how the series is going to end im writing it now and including it as part of series as their friendship is already established i can confirm y/n and the group are going to have a happy ending when the series eventually comes to an end this also does not mean the series is anywhere near the end i plan on continuing the series as vlogs come out, i feel the need to confirm this now love between y/n and ranboo in this imagine is completely platonic
it had been about a month since you last streamed whereas ranboo continued to stream a few days after the fallout as he wanted to make sure you were going to be okay. even though ranboo knew this huge fallout would eventually happen, it still hurt him, especially since he knew there was no way to prevent it, the four of you in the same house mixed with the stress of being some of the most-watched content creators made living rather difficult. it was like walking on eggshells as you didn’t want to interrupt someone's stream, then there was the additional stress of obsessive fans finding out where the four of you lived, you still remember that day very vividly. you were sat in between tubbo and ranboo watching the office whilst Tommy was in an interview when you received a message from your mod.
Chris: hey y/n I received this message earlier I don’t want to scare you, but maybe get the locks changed. someone sent a message claiming this is your address *image of message from ‘fan’*
it didn’t take long for tubbo and ranboo to receive a message from their mods saying the same thing
“holy shit...”
“chances are Tommy has the message too. we shall go check around the house when Tommy is done with the interview.”
luckily no one ever showed up to the house, but the fact some people were so obsessed to the point they found your address was enough to put everyone in the house on edge. and now it was just you and ranboo in the house. you didn’t feel safe as even though ranboo promised to not let anything happen, you didn’t wanna risk it.
“we should move. there’s no point in having such a big house for two people, what are we going to use the extra space for heh? hide and seek with people who have our address. no thank you. I say we move leave this mess behind and start completely over, hell I’d feel safer in the us and that’s saying something”
ranboo agreed the house didn’t have the happiest memories attached to it anymore, it hurt walking past the hallway as it would bring back the memory of him crying into the crook of y/ns neck whilst tubbo left the house.
“let’s do it, I’ll do an early stream then we can look for houses. go take a shower. I’ll stay close to the door so you’re safe, then you can stay in my room whilst I stream, you can join me if you would like.”
“you’re being very protective all of a sudden...let me guess you got the message from our mods announcing the obsessive fans are at it again?”
“go take a shower.”
“no.”
ranboo ended up picking you up, carried you to the bathroom and turned the shower on before putting you on your feet.
“quick shower I’ll see you later.”
and with that he left the room shutting the door behind him, 30 minutes later you got changed and followed ranboo to his room ready to join him whilst he streams
“hey boo, can I join you? I kinda wanna get into streaming again.”
“I'm so glad you asked, I was going to do a face cam stream, if that’s okay?”
“of course.”
you grabbed his mask and glasses whilst he locked the door so you were both safe. “here you go.”
“thank you.”
the pair of you started the stream and it was honestly going well, you were having so much fun you forgot about all the negative things currently going on, you began to understand why ranboo continued streaming as for those 2-4 hours of streaming it felt as though everything was back to normal. 3 hours later the two of you ended stream and Twitter went crazy. tweets ranged from fans talking about how ranboo was streaming with you, how Tommy was in chat, and how tubbo was modding as people who mentioned anything about their address being leaked were banned by tubbo. the one thing that caught ranboos eye was fan art and a picture of you both from the stream captioned ‘they’re platonic soulmates your honour’ ranboo went as far to like, retweet and comment on it.
ranaltboo: glad you liked the stream it was great having y/n back, think I might make them play tattletail next stream
definitelynoty/n: isn’t that the Furby game that terrified you in 2021? bring it on boo!
Twitter went crazy over this interaction, you had finally come back to social media after months of being inactive, and it looked like you were here to stay. a month later you and ranboo moved out of the house and sold it to your aunt and her wife and their three adopted children, you explained the situation and even changed the locks for them all before they moved in.
“Please do tell us if anyone shows up who shouldn’t be. we changed the locks as you were aware- oh hello little one.”
you noticed one of their children decided to cling onto your leg
“I like your hair it’s colourful!”
“Indeed it is.”
“WOAH A GIANT!”
the little girl let go of your leg and ran to ranboo asking to be picked up, unsure of what to do he looked towards you. however, you were too busy laughing about the fact he was compared to a giant.
“I'm so sorry uh if you want to pick her up you can, you don’t have to.”
“pick me up, tall man... I want to be taller!”
ranboo ended up standing next to you with an arm around your waist whilst the child sat on his shoulders happily playing with his hair.
“ranboo do not drop that child.”
“I didn't- I didn't plan on it y/n.”
eventually, it was time to leave and the child reluctantly let go of ranboo.
“bye-bye!! hope to see you soon!”
soon enough you were at a smaller house, far away from the old house, leaving behind the negative feelings. it could only get better, a week later the pair of you had settled into the new house, it finally felt like home. you and ranboo were now streaming full time again, safe to say the two of you were thriving and closer than ever.
“so I’m thinking if I hit the sub-goal today I’ll let chat pick what colour I dye my hair.”
“make it higher, and I’ll let you cut my hair.”
“Are you being serious? oh my god!”
a few minutes later you took to Twitter to announce you were going live.
y/n: kidnapping children in the sims with ranboo psst check the subgoal.
within 20 minutes you had hit the sub-goal, chat ended up picking another random neon colour for your hair.
“right hair dye and the cutting stream will be this weekend, now let’s go back to kidnapping.”
tubbo, tommy, and jack felt awful for what happened and went back to the house where you used to live, hoping to see you there so they could apologise, tubbo knocked on the door only to be met by a young child.
“my sister watches you on twitch!”
“oh that’s lovely.. are y/n and ranboo here?”
an older woman came to the door.
“oh no, I’m sorry dear they both moved out, but they left this box and said to give it to you if you returned.”
“do you know where they moved to?”
“I'm sorry dear, I'm not allowed to tell you that information for safety reasons.”
“I understand, thanks anyway.”
they ended up going back to jacks where the three of them had been staying.
“We should open the box.”
tubbo opened the box and emptied the items onto the floor, inside was the rocks y/n handed tubbo from every trip, photos of the group, a necklace y/n had gifted to Tommy a day before the argument, and a hat y/n had taken from jack during a trip to a zoo.
“what the fuck!”
“holy shit!”
“they really kept all these in hopes we would come back?”
“and now we’re too late.”
it was now the weekend you and ranboo were ready to stream, you stood leaning on ranboo who was significantly smaller than you as you lowered the chair he sat on.
“starting stream...now.”
after the starting soon intro played, you explained what was happening to any new viewers or people who didn’t watch the stream.
“so I’m about to become Edward Scissorhands...I love that film can we watch it later?”
“yeah mhm sure!”
you didn’t know this but your ex best friends were watching and ever so often would show up in the chat.
“so boo, what are we doing with your hair today?”
“just a trim please darling?”
“This is y/ns hairdressers you get what I’m capable of!”
you ended up doing a pretty good job of cutting ranboos hair, even he was impressed.
“I didn’t doubt you for a minute!”
“mhm sure thing please don’t mess up my hair tall one!”
soon enough you had the dye on. 45 minutes later you left to wash it off, leaving ranboo to entertain stream,
“chat I think I missed some of their hair it’s okay, I own scissors, I’ll just cut it.. speaking of they did a great job, didn't they? I honestly expected them to mess up.”
a few minutes later you joined ranboo again and spent the next few hours talking with chat. tubbo, tommy, and jack stayed the entire time. they loved the fact you and ranboo were able to stay close after what happened, Tommy noticed you were still wearing the necklace he got you many years ago and spammed them chat with him tubbo and jack
Tommy: THEYRE WEARING THE NECKLACE!!
jack: so what? they clearly don’t wanna talk to us.
tubbo: shut up listen to them.
“chat why are we spamming platonic soulmates?”
“they’ve been saying it all over Twitter, look on trending y/n.”
you started to blush slightly at all the amazing artwork soon enough the stream came to an end, after saying goodbye the pair of you sat together going through fan art. unfortunately the one that caught your eye was this one twitter post where the artist had created a drawing of a piece of paper with you, ranboo, tommy, tubbo, and jack, however the paper was ripped separating you and ranboo from the others, captioned ‘it was never meant to be’ this clearly upset ranboo as he took off his mask and glasses placing them on the desk before going straight to his bed.
“boo…are you okay?”
“Are you tired of me? are you going to leave next?”
“what? no of course not! I could never get tired of you, why do you ask?”
“everyone else has left..i thought they cared about us, i knew it would happen eventually and i couldn’t stop it, i’m sorry, y/n, please don’t hate me.”
you sat on the edge of the bed looking down at the floor,
“come here.”
you watched him roll over to face you.
“you know there’s no one else who I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, right…if i hated you i wouldn’t have moved house with you. it’s not your job to fix everything and make everything better, you’re a streamer for christ sake not a therapist.”
“i guess so.. can we watch that thing you were on about for ages.”
“edward scissorhands? “
“mhm!”
you could tell he wanted to be distracted, so you agreed and put the film on, towards the end you began to get upset due to how overwhelming everything was.
“Why are you crying?”
“poor Edward.”
“come here.”
ranboo pulled you into a hug you laid there crying into his chest, he knew that wasn’t the reason you were crying, but he wasn’t about to make you tell him, luckily it didn’t take long for you to stop crying as ranboo quickly distracted you.
“ranboo..”
“yeah y/n?”
“I feel bad i didnt realise how much pressure was on you whilst everyone was arguing.”
“Hey, it’s okay, is that what’s upsetting you?”
“mhm.”
“don’t blame yourself, i’d do it all over again to keep you safe and happy..then again i didn’t do a good job on keeping you happy.”
“you did..you were always there for me even when i gave up on social media, you shared your room with me after i started receiving creepy messages from that obsessed fan, hell you even went on adventures with me even though it was clear you hadn’t been sleeping, just so we could spend time together and forget about what was happening. you mean a lot to me boo.”
“i love you.”
“i love you too bud, I’m tired.”
“go to sleep, it’s been a long day.”
“okay.”
“you just staying there?”
“yes.”
“oh, oh okay, goodnight.”
about a year later the two of you were still thriving, ranboo got you a promise ring a few months earlier.
“heh what’s this for?”
“as your best friend i promise to stay by your side and keep you safe and make sure that you’re happy, in other words you're stuck with me till the end of time.”
“boo…i really don’t know what to say.. thank you so much!”
“you don’t have to say anything!”
you ended up going out to buy him a promise ring when he started the stream and decided to take your cousins with you now that they were a little older. ranboo was doing a facecam stream when the door slammed open revealing you covering your three younger cousins ranboo not realising you were hiding them from the camera, instinctively stood up covering the camera
“ranboooooo!”
“yes you three and y/n ,what do you need?”
“we would like to watch a film!”
“Okay, i’ll go put one on, y/n will you entertain chat?”
“sure thing boo boy!”
once they left you sat fixing your hair forgetting you were wearing the ring chat noticed this and went crazy, so did Tommys group with tubbo and jack.
tubbo: that’s a ring, right??
jack: yeah looks like it.
Tommy: holy shit I always thought if anyone was gonna get married it would be tubbo and y/n, they were inseparable.
tubbo: hilarious.
jack: it could just be a ring, no one mentioned marriage tommy!
Tommy: we should congratulate them.
jack: at least let them explain fucking hell.
soon enough ranboo came back into the room,
“sorry one of them found it hilarious to steal my glasses...”
“they’re little shits i swear to god but i love them.”
you both noticed chat going crazy and both looked at each other before laughing.
“i'm sorry, i can’t take you serious in the mask and glasses!”
“i can’t take you serious with neon hair, but here we are!”
“rude!”
you and ranboo quickly put an end to the rumours,
“no we’re not engaged or married, it is a promise ring. no they’re not our children, they’re y/ns cousins they just spend a lot of time here..chat stop calling me and y/n parents and comparing us to phil that’s not..that’s not how it works okay!”
“parent arc!”
“y/n, don’t encourage them!”
“it’s a little bit funny!”
soon enough the bit came to an end and eventually ranboo ended the stream.
“hey boo look what i got you”
you handed him a little black box, inside was a ring similar to yours
“i promise to always stick around and be here for you”
“oh my god”
ranboo tackled you into a hug thanking you several times for his rings. you and ranboo were living your best life meanwhile jack, tommy, and tubbo were stuck dealing with the guilt of what happened, but they’re weren’t giving up that easy. they wanted you both back, that’s when you received a notification, tommyinnit has sent you a message request: hey y/n can we talk..please?

“How have you been adjusting to this new home?” Thor asks one morning, a smile on his face. You grin back at him, the weight of Acadia lifted off your shoulders as you take a sip of your tea.
“Quite well. Although Loki has been an interesting addition.” The raven-haired man looks up from his book momentarily and gives you a look, to which you only smile.
From the moment you entered the cottage you knew it would be good for you to stay here.
“Well, we are at your disposal. I will have to go back to Asgard within the weeks to come, but Loki and the Valkyrie shall remain here should you need or want them.” You nod gratefully, looking out the window and pursing your lips as you watch the women spar outside.
“What? What is it?” Thor asks, following your gaze.
“I want to learn to defend myself. To wield a sword and fight off an attacker.” Loki scoffs from where he sits, his nose still buried deep in his book.
“For what reason should a queen wish to learn to fight? You will always have men for that.” Your defence is up in an instant, and you clench your jaw before composing yourself enough to reply.
“I do think that considering both my upbringing and the way I have been treated in my new kingdom, I have every right to want to learn to defend myself. I have many reasons to want to defend myself, none of which concern you, however, if you had the slightest idea of all that I have endured in my short time as queen you would not question me wanting to learn to defend myself. I have been shunned from my palace because my husbands fear someone will kill me. My own husbands have brought me far more pain than I would like to admit. I have every right to wish to learn how to defend myself and I will not hear a word from you about the subject!”
His brows raise to nearly his hairline and he looks between you and his brother before burying his nose back in his book, which elicits a chuckle from the blond king.
“If the situation is so severe that I need be sent away for my own safety, I need to learn to defend myself.”
Thor nods, a strong hand patting your shoulder comfortingly.
“I knew there was a fire in you. I could see it in those eyes when you spoke of running from the Kings. I just needed to find it.” He rises to his feet and straightens his clothing. “Loki does have a special talent for pulling the fire from even the most docile creatures. But I will go speak with the valkyrie. They will be delighted to have a student to train.”
He leaves the cottage to interrupt the sparring outside, and you feel your heart skip a beat at the first piece of control that you will have over your life.
~*~
“If that will be all, You are dismissed,” King Steven says, his voice low and exhausted. The royal adviser bows then heads to the door, hesitating for a moment.
“Forgive me, Your Majesties, but I cannot help but notice the absence of the Queen. Where has she gone?” It’s not the first time they’ve gotten the question in the week that you've been gone, therefore they already have their excuse rehearsed and perfected.
“We simply have no use for her. If she cannot even bear our children then what use is she to us?” Comes Steve’s practiced response.
“We were instructed to find a queen who could produce strong heirs. Our wife cannot. So she is no longer of use to us,” James adds, his voice dripping in boredom as he looks over a document on his desk.
The royal advisor nods then excuses himself, bustling to his own office with newfound haste and purpose.
“It’s been a week and we are no closer to finding who it is than we were when she was here,” Steve murmurs after a long moment of silence, his shoulders heavy with the weight of their decision.
“I’m beginning to question whether it was a good decision to send her along with Thor. Especially after he threatened to make her a queen of his own. What if she were to agree?” James stands up and walks over to his husband, taking his shaking hands in his own and sighing.
“I would not blame her if she were to agree. We have treated her like a prisoner. I have... brutalized her and beaten her and I will never be able to repent. If she were to want him I would in no way blame her. He has provided her with a safe haven. She can confide in him and trust him in a way that she may not be able to again with us.” Steve sniffles and squeezes his eyes shut.
“We need to find who it is that has caused this and we need to make them pay.” James nods, smoothing his thumbs over the back of his husband’s hands.
“We will. But until we do, we must remain strong. The Doctor is recovering and when he is fully recovered we will ask him who it was that attacked him. We will find who is behind this, but we must be patient.”
~*~
“Again!” You raise your sword just in time to block a blow from one of the Valkyrie, grinding your teeth together as you push her back a step then swipe your own sword at her throat.
She hops backward, eyebrows raised in surprise.
“You are learning, Your Majesty. But you still hold back. Why? You cannot be afraid to hurt us,” The Captain says, walking forward and looking at you closely.
“You must show no mercy. Not when you must choose between your own life and the life of someone who means to do you harm. You will fight and you will fight to the death.”
Your entire body is burning with the exertion but you hold your ground, raising your sword and ready to go again.
“That’s what I like to see! Now, we go again!” Brunnhild exclaims, a grin on her face as she takes her fighting stance.
It’s just over two weeks since you began your training and everyone is surprised at how quickly you’re picking up on what’s being taught, but none more than you.
You’re just stepping out of the bath, muscles aching with a new type of strength that the Valkyrie have been beating into you, when your eyes catch a glimpse of movement at the window to your bedroom. A figure clad in all black is moving swiftly away from the cottage and disappearing into the darkness of woods, the setting sun aiding in the camouflage of the person.
Thinking that it’s none other than Loki going to wreak havoc on some poor defenceless wanderers, you don’t question it. Instead, you get dressed into a soft Asgardian gown and start preparing yourself for bed.
You’re just about ready to settle down with a book when a flash of white catches your eye from the window. You hesitantly investigate, heart hammering in your chest as you see a letter tucked securely in the window.
You open it and snatch the envelope before it can be taken by the wind, then shut the window again.
The seal on the envelope is that of Acadia, and your heart is in your throat as you realize that this could very well be a letter from the Kings. You’ve no idea what it may say, and cannot decide if you are more nervous or excited as you open it.
The script is not one you recognize, but your eyes greedily devour every word, the smile fading from your face at what lies on the page in your hand.
Thor finds you sometime later seated on the floor, the letter gripped tightly in your hands and your eyes focused on a point on the wall.
“(Y/n?” He asks softly, knocking against the doorframe to try and get your attention. You make no indication that you’ve heard him.
He enters the room, brows furrowed as he sees what you’re holding. “What is that? What does it say? Is it from the Kings?”
It takes a very long moment, but eventually, you find the strength to speak. But even then your voice is a weak rasp.
“Did you know the truth? Did you hide it from me as well?” Thor is beyond confused as he approaches you, taking the page from you and reading through the contents quickly.
‘Your Majesty,
Do not ask who I am nor how I know where you are, just know that you need be more careful who it is you call your lovers. They have sent you away, not for your own protection but because you failed at the task they wanted you for. They have sent you away because you failed to bear their children, this I promise I have heard with my own ears. I know not what they have told you but it is what I have witnessed. They have said this directly and I have heard it with my very own ears. You would do well to stay away from them, for they are dangerous. But I am certain that you and your late child are more than aware of that.
Consider this a warning, your majesty, for I know you are unsafe. You must take care and be far more careful of who you allow in your court.’
“Loki!” The prince is in the room within the same moment, his eyes full of confusion.
“Have the Valkyrie secure the area and find me the man who sent this! Travel to Acadia and alert the Kings. The Queen is no longer safe here.”
You’re confused. If the kings have directly told someone this, why then is Thor responding in such a way?
Loki is on horseback heading towards Acadia only moments later, and Thor is leaving the room as soon as the Valkyrie enter.
Brunnhild crouches next to you, a frown on her face as she glances at the note on the floor, its words echoing in your ears.
“Do not allow this to scare you, Your majesty. Do not give them the satisfaction of that.” You scoff and shake your head at her, “it is far easier said than done. All my life I have been punished for ever speaking, much less standing my ground. I have perfected the art of cowering, for men wish to do nothing but hurt and maim all so they can gain power.”
She sits down and shakes her head, taking your hand in hers and squeezing it tightly.
“You forget that we are all brought into this world through blood and through pain, your Majesty. We are the daughters of savage women. We are their savage daughters and we will act like it. We will bite and scream and we will take up space. We will not conform to their ideas of what women should be.” Her words are whispered into the still air of the room as if she were hiding them from any listening ears.
“Do not lower your voice for any man. Do not cower beneath them. You are a powerful being. One that can create life and you can also take it away, never forget that.” She pulls a dagger off of her belt and hands it to you, curling your fingers around the hilt before she continues speaking.
“You have the blood of goddesses and witches flowing through your veins. You hold a power that men could never understand. With every step we take, every time we refuse to cower... we honour our mothers, our grandmothers, and the ones before them. The ones who stood and fought and were torn to pieces. We will not be silenced. You will not be silenced. You are more powerful than that. You must remember your strength and your power. Do not let the men convince you that you are anything less than what you are.”
Your eyes sting and your throat gets tight, but she only hugs your shoulders and continues speaking.
“Your power is what scares them. Why else would they try to assert their dominance in such a way? But you will not fall. You will not allow them to treat you like that because you are the daughter of a savage. You are yourself a savage woman and you will act like it. Royal title be damned.”
You sniffle once, twice, three times, then nod, wiping your eyes just as Thor re-enters the room.
The Valkyrie take their leave and the King sighs, crouching down next to you and gently stroking your cheek.
“I’m so very sorry, Petal. You are no longer safe here. If someone was able to bring you this letter then I fear you are in far more danger than we had thought. The conspiracy against the Kings runs far deeper than any of us could have anticipated, and if we are to keep you safe then we must act quickly.” He pulls you to your feet and bustles around quickly, covering your shoulders in a thick cloak and packing a bag of your belongings.
“Wait, where do you mean to take me? If I am not safe anywhere?”
He tosses your bag over his shoulder and grabs your hand, entwining your fingers and giving your hand a soft squeeze.
“The only place you will truly be safe.” You’re still quite confused.
“We make for Asgard.”

Conversation flowed in the dining room and kitchen of the Hotchner residence as the BAU team and family impatiently anticipated the forthcoming announcement.
“It’s a boy, has to be,” Morgan mused.
“No way. Definitely a girl,” JJ contradicts.
“As much as it pains me to say, I think I have to go with Morgan on this one,” Emily admits.
“Garcia?” JJ inquires, “What do you think?”
“I have to agree with Chocolate Thunder on this one, love,”
“Are you all taking his side?” JJ asks with indignation. “I’ll bet you $50 that it’s a girl!”
“Oh you’re on, sweetheart,” Morgan complies with a winning smile.
“I don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy,” says Reid, “but I do know that I wouldn’t bet against JJ.”
“Thanks, Spence,” JJ replies, patting him on the shoulder. “Emily, Rossi? You wanna get in on the action?”
“Oh I am so staying out of this,” Prentiss responds. “Count me out.”
“I’m in with Morgan for $50,” Rossi states.
“Alright, but you’re all gonna be sorry,” JJ says with a smirk.
Overhearing the lively discussion, you enter the room.
“Children, what’s going on here?” You interject, “Don’t make me break up a fight.”
“Y/N! Just the lady I wanted to see!” Exclaims JJ. “May I?” She asks, gesturing towards your growing baby bump.
“Sure, go ahead,” you reply. “Do I even want to know?”
“We’re taking bets on the sex of the baby,” she replies placing a gentle hand on your belly. “And I am so totally going to win!”
“You can’t possibly know that, JJ,” Morgan interrupts.
“Call me crazy if you want,” says JJ, “but a mother knows.”
“I suppose you’ll all find out soon enough,” Aaron cuts in, placing a strong arm around your back and pressing his lips to yours for a quick, tender kiss. “Shall we?”
With that, everyone makes their way to the backyard, where a large golden balloon awaits.
Picking it up from the ground, Aaron asks, “Everybody ready?”
He didn’t really have to ask. The answer was unanimous.
“YES!”
“Jack, would you like to do the honors?” you inquire, holding out a safety pin for him.
“Can I?” he asks hopefully.
“Of course you can buddy. Just be careful, okay?”
“Yes, Mama.”
“Dad and I will count you in, okay? On three.”
Together, you and Aaron slowly count, “One, two, THREE!”
A loud pop from the balloon momentarily startles the crowd and then..... a cloud of pink confetti floats to the ground.
“YES!” JJ shouts in her excitement. “PAY UP, LOSERS! We got a baby shower to plan!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Several weeks later found you strolling through the back door of Rossi’s home into the yard where you’d married the man of your dreams not so very long ago.
This time it’s decorated for a slightly different occasion. Pale pink lanterns and streamers adorn everything in sight. A picnic table covered with a pink flowered cloth looks like it might collapse at any moment beneath the weight of a mountain of gifts wrapped in pastel paper. Heart shaped balloons are tied to the corners of another table on top of which is a giant bowl of pink punch, more food than you thought possible, and a breathtaking cake, decorated with tiny pink roses.
A tap on your shoulder brings you back to reality and you turn to see three beautiful, smiling faces. Women that you consider to be not only friends, but family at this point.
“Penny, Emily, JJ,” you say as your eyes begin to well up with tears, “This is too much! You shouldn’t have gone to this much trouble.”
“Oh this is the least we could have done for you, doll face,” Garcia interjects. “Nothing but the finest for my very best friend.”
“Don’t worry about it, my clean sweep at the gender reveal paid for most of this,” JJ jokes.
“You look absolutely radiant,” Emily adds, pulling you in for a hug.
“Where’s the boss man?” Penelope asks. “He’s coming isn’t he?”
“Oh yes” you reply. “He was helping Jack out of the car. He told me to come on in. He’s probably inside hanging out with boys for a minute.”
At that moment, you feel a pair of familiar arms encircling you, one across your chest and one just underneath your baby bump. A soft kiss on the cheek and he turns you around to face him. The tender look in his usually stern eyes melts you as he smiles and says,
“There’s my girls.”
“I love you, Aaron.”
“I love you too, darling.”
“Alright love birds, it’s time to get this show on the road!” exclaims Morgan, coming through the door with both Henry and Jack in tow.
“Thanks for keeping the kids entertained, Derek,” you whisper. “I don’t know what we’d do without you.”
“Don’t you worry about a thing, Mama. I’ve got it all under control,” he reassures with a wink.
“Should we be worried?” Aaron jokes under his breath.
“I’ll keep an eye on him,” Garcia offers, trailing off behind them.
Rossi and Reid bring up the tail end of the group, along with Jessica, Jack’s aunt, who had been previously supervising the kids.
“How are the parents-to-be feeling?” Rossi inquires.
“Overwhelmed, and so grateful,” you reply. “I know JJ said she covered most of it with her winnings, but I think we all know you pitched in too. And you’re a fantastic sport for letting the girls decorate your whole house pink.”
“Anything for some of my favorite people,” he replies patting you both on the shoulder.
“I’m so happy for you guys,” Reid chimes in. “This baby’s really lucky to have such loving parents.”
“Reid, stop. You’re gonna make me cry,” you squeak out, pulling a tissue from your purse.
Just then, Jessica wraps an arm around both of you.
“Jess, you know you didn’t have to come,” Aaron says.
“Nonsense!” comes her reply. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
As you go to sit so you can open presents, Morgan pulls out the chair for you, then pulls one out for Garcia as they settle in to watch the kids.
Maybe you were mistaken, but you could have sworn you saw a flirty look pass between them. A mischievous grin crosses your face. Perhaps you should do a bit of your own matchmaking.
“Jack!” you call. “Don’t you wanna help Mama open some of her presents?”
“Yeah! Can Henry help too?”
“What do you think JJ?” you ask.
“As long as it’s okay with you,” she agrees.
The kids ran up to help with their very important present duty. Jack retrieving smaller presents and helping rip the paper. Henry mostly just playing with the shiny bows. Thus leaving Morgan and Garcia free of responsibility.
When the last present had been opened, and the last game played, Aaron made his speech.
“Y/N and I just wanted to thank you all so much for being here today. We love each and every one of you like family, and we are truly grateful for all your love and support. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful people in our lives. Thank you again.”
As everyone was leaving, Penelope pulled you to the side.
“Did you call the kids over for help specifically to leave Derek and I alone together?”
“Penny, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” came your reply. “I’m just getting too big to be bending over to grab the presents and I thought it would be fun for the kids.”
“If you say so,” she says with a skeptical look.
As she walks away, Aaron whispers in your ear, “You are so wrong for that, you know?” with a playful shove of your shoulder.
“Oh they’re perfect for each other and everyone knows it. Besides, she played matchmaker for us and look what happened,” you reply, rubbing your belly.
“Okay, okay!” he surrenders with a grin. “You’re right. You’re always right. You win.”
——————————————————————————
As the weeks crept by, your little family was not so patiently awaiting the arrival of its newest addition. Being pregnant and taking care of a 6 year old without your husband was extremely taxing, making the moments that you did have with him exceedingly special.
Moments like today. It was nothing exciting, just sitting on the couch, enjoying each other’s company, but sometimes that’s all you really need.
Seated across from each other, You can’t help but admire the sweet look on his face as he touches your belly.
“I still can’t believe we’re having a baby girl,” he mentions.
“Neither can I,” you agree. “She’s gonna be smart,” you state, resting your hand on top of Aaron’s. “A lawyer like her daddy.”
“She can be anything she wants,” he says, looking up with his smile revealing the stunning dimples that caught your eye on your very first date. “As long as she’s happy.”
“God I love you, Aaron.”
“I love you more, angel.”
But mom duty never stops.
“Oh!” you exclaim. “It’s almost time to pick up Jack from school and I haven’t even started dinner!”
“Don’t worry about it, babe,” Aaron says. “I’ll take care of everything, you just relax.”
“But I,”
“Ssshhhhh,” he interrupts. “No buts. I will pick up Jack, I will get dinner. You deserve a break.”
“Alright, if you insist.”
“I do.”
He leans in and gently brushes his lips against yours.
“I’ll be back soon.”
What felt like an eternity later, you hear the front door open and two distinct sets of footsteps.
“Mama!” Jack yelled, scrambling up into your lap for a hug. “I missed you!”
“I missed you too, buddy,” you reassure, pulling him close to your chest.
“What’s for dinner, honey?” you ask?
A playful smirk forms on Aaron’s face, raising your suspicions.
“You’ll see. In the meantime, Jack how would you like to watch a movie with me and mom?”
You all settle on the sofa, Jack in Aaron’s lap and your head on your husband’s left shoulder. Just as you were drifting off to sleep near the end of the movie, a knock at the door startles you awake.
“Dinner’s here!” Aaron announces. “Come on buddy,” he encourages Jack. “Help me out.”
As you reach the table where the food is being laid out, tears begin to spring to your eyes.
“I got you fries and chocolate shake. And a cheeseburger. No mayo, extra pickles.”
“Babe,” you squeak out, “you remembered.”
“Of course I remembered. It’s all you talked about while I was away on my last case.”
You laugh and pull him close.
“I knew I married you for a reason.”
——————————————————————————
Around your 36 week mark, Aaron called from his hotel room to check on you.
“How are you, love?”
“Still pregnant,” you gripe.
“I know you’re exhausted, mama. I’ll be home tomorrow. Just remember the go bag for the hospital is packed and sitting right by the front door, just in case.”
“Yes, Aaron. You remind me every day. Honestly I think it’s bit overboard, I’m fine.”
“I just worry about you being alone while I’m gone is all. It never hurts to be prepared. Anyway, I love you. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Love you too honey. Good night and be safe tomorrow.”
——————————————————————————
When Aaron arrived home the next night, he was greeted by the sight of you dozing on the couch.
Easing himself down on the edge, he swipes a lock of hair from your face. He softly kisses your forehead and watches as your eyes flutter open.
“Aaron?” you murmur. “You’re home.”
“I’m home,” he whispers. “How are my girls?”
“Better now that you’re home. I’ve had some pretty intense back pain, but otherwise fine.”
“Well sleeping on the couch probably isn’t helping,” he states matter of factly.
“Oh thank you doctor,” you reply sarcastically, giving his arm a playful slap. “I would never have known.”
“You’re welcome,” he says with a shit eating grin. “Let’s get some sleep.”And with that, he sweeps you off the couch, heading for the master bedroom.
——————————————————————————
You woke the next morning still in pain, but not wanting to disturb Aaron. You struggle to sit up, finally managing after a few tries. You pull back the sheets and immediately get a sense of panic and dread at the sight of blood on the hem of your nightgown and the sheets beneath you. As the tears begin to stream, you instinctively call out for him.
Waking up at the sound of his name he asks, “what’s wrong, baby?”
But he realizes the problem before you even get a chance to respond.
Amazingly he seems not to panic at all. The tears and hysterics don’t faze him at all. He simply grabs you out of the bed, carries your directly to the car, and buckles you in.
“Stay right here,” he instructs. “I’m getting Jack and we’re going to the hospital right now.”
What seems like an eternity later, but in reality was only a few minutes, Aaron emerges from the house with Jack and the go bag.
He peels out of the driveway and drives to the nearest hospital with no regard for the speed limit.
When you arrived to the emergency entrance, you look at him with a panic stricken face.
“I’m scared, Aaron.”
“Don’t worry darling,” he says soothingly. “I’m going to get you some help.”
The next thing you know several people are helping you out of the car and loading you onto a stretcher. As they wheel you inside he follows closely behind with Jack asleep in his arms.
“What going on?” you plead.
“I don’t know, love but they’re going to help,” he reassures.
Just then you overhear a member of the medical staff informing Aaron that he’s not allowed any farther.
“What do you mean he can’t come with me?” You wail.
“I’m sorry ma’am, but bleeding is very serious. Both you and the baby could be in danger. We need to get you treatment now and we can’t have any family in the room.”
“It’s okay,” Aaron says in a very calm and sure tone. “They’re going to take good care of you. Everything will be fine.”
“FINE? Nothing about this is fine!” you shout. “I can’t do this without you, Aaron.”
“Yes you can,” he replies, holding your hand. “You’re the strongest woman I know. You have to. Do it for her.” He says, placing his hand on your belly.
“We have to go now,” one of the nurses insist.
“Be strong for me okay?” He pleads, gaining a short tearful nod from you in response.
“I love you,” he calls out as they wheel you swiftly down the hall. Just before the stretcher is out of sight he hears your response.
“I love you more.”
——————————————————————————
Collapsing into a chair in the waiting area, mind racing with worry, Aaron does the only thing he can think of at the moment.
The phone rings, and then,
“Aaron! I wasn’t expecting to hear from you so soon after a case,” Rossi says. “We don’t have plans today, do we?”
“No, Dave. It’s Y/N. We’re at the hospital.”
“Wow, I didn’t think she was due for a few more weeks.”
“She’s not,” Aaron explains, his voice beginning to break. “When we woke up, she was bleeding. From what I understand, it’s pretty serious. You’re the first person I thought to call.”
“Oh my God,” Rossi breathes. “I’ll be there as soon as I can. Should I call the rest of the team?”
“Yeah, I think that would be best. I could really use some help with Jack. He’s still asleep for now, but,” Aaron pauses for a moment, choking back tears. “I don’t know what to tell him when he wakes up,” he finishes quietly.
“Just hold on, Aaron,” Rossi replies. “We’re coming.”
——————————————————————————
Within an hour, the whole BAU team was crowding the hospital waiting room. Hugs were exchanged and Aaron had handed a still sleeping Jack off to JJ.
Everyone waited in tense silence, not knowing quite what to say.
“I’m scared out my mind, Dave,” Aaron confines to him. “I can’t lose her. I’ve been through too much already. And Jack, God it would crush him if anything happened to her.”
“I think he’s waking up,” JJ whispers.
“Dad?” He asks in a daze as he wakes. “Miss JJ? Where are we?” He questions now aware of the unfamiliar surroundings.
Coming over to squat down in front of him, Aaron does his best to explain.
“Well buddy, this morning mom got sick, so we brought her to the hospital, and the doctors are taking good care of her.”
“Is she going to be okay?” he inquires. “And my baby sister?”
“I hope so, the doctors are working really hard to make mom better okay?”
“Daddy, we should say a prayer for Mama,” Jack responds. “And my baby sister too.”
“I think that’s a great idea, Jack,” Aaron responds, as he quickly turns away to wipe a tear.
The whole group gathered closely around Jack and Aaron. Everyone took turns saying prayer for the health and well being of Y/N and her unborn daughter.
Moments after the last amen was said; just when Aaron thought he would die if he waited a moment longer, a doctor came through the doors.
“Mr. Hotchner?”
Aaron stood, bracing himself for the news.
“Is it alright if I speak in front of the group?”
“Yes, they’re family. Please, just— do you have news about my wife?”
“Sir,” the doctor continues with a look of concern. “You all may want to sit down for this.”
Caring is the Greatest Advantage- Mycroft Holmes x Reader (Part 11)
A/N- Okay so this is just a short 2k fill in chapter! It’s kinda cute and kinda sad but it was too long to add to the last chapter, and it doesn’t fit in with the theme of the next chapter (though it sets it up quite nicely!). The next chapter is likely going to be a bit angsty but I promise it’ll have a rewarding ending to it! I hope to have it written and up sooner rather than later but, until then, enjoy this little piece.
Word Count- 2028
The ten minute drive from Baker Street to the Natural History Museum went by in a flash- most of it being spent by Mycroft giving you a mental tour of the building's various rooms and the 'most appropriate route to take'. Though it did also take a minute or two for you to convince him to not get everybody kicked out for a private visit, no matter how many people were there.. Admittedly, you hadn't been to the museum for 6 years or so now- after living so long in London it feels less of a luxury being only round the corner from it- but walking through the doors made you feel like a child again. Entry to the museum was free, but that didn't mean you didn't see Mycroft swiftly pushing a few notes into the donation bin at the front before guiding you forwards. Glancing up, you eyed the blue whale skeleton that hung from the ceiling and frowned. Mycroft caught your look and spoke up.
"Ah yes, Hope has been a relatively recent addition to the museum. She was found dead on an Irish beach back in 1891. It's a rather beautiful marvel to gaze upon, though, large as she is, she doesn't quite fill the hole in my heart that was left after my beloved Dippy was removed." Your eyes scanned the skeleton of the large mammal once more before looking back at Mycroft. "I did try to convince the board to keep the diplodocus somewhere but all attempts were futile. There's only so much force you can put into such a topic without exposing yourself as-"
"As a man who loves dinosaur bones more than he loves people?" Mycroft shoved his hands in his pockets and sighed.
"The very thing." Lifting your arm, you rested your hand at the crook of Mycroft's elbow to encourage him to move on.
"When we get home and have dinner we can raise a toast in Dippy's honour.. but for now, my mind's been taken over by that huge statue of Darwin." And the pair of you headed off, your hand very much staying place at Mycroft's arm as you wandered through the rooms- Mycroft more than willing to reel off facts about every deceased animal of history and, more often than not, even impressing the workers with his spiel of facts. Though you were very much enjoying wandering aimlessly through the room of human evolution, you most definitely noticed the pull from the man beside you as he was eager to reach his beloved dino-pals. As you turned the corner into the slightly darkened dinosaur room, you tripped over your feet slightly as you felt Mycroft stop in his tracks, his eyes wide and taking everything in. He looked as happy as a boy at Christmas and, quite frankly, it was adorable. You nudged him slightly when he still didn't move. "You okay?"
"Sorry, it just seems as though, no matter how many times I come here, it always feels like the first." He had shaken his head as though to bring his thoughts back to focus before taking a few steps into the gallery and leading you over to the skeletal remains of a Baryonyx. "The name Baryonyx roughly translates to 'Heavy Claw' from the Ancient Greek's 'Barys' meaning heavy and 'onyx' being claw or talon." He spoke, his voice smooth and relaxed as his fingers brushed over the board that announced the name of the creature within the glass. "It was also an excellent swimmer which it would use to its advantage while hunting." You listened to his every word as he spoke, grinning as he excitedly told you how many teeth it had and it's preferred techniques for capturing food before he moved you onto the next one.
"Oh these beauties have always been my favourite." You almost whispered, taking in the sight of the huge triceratops skull. You barely noticed Mycroft's hand shift from his pocket until you felt the heat of his palm against the small of your back, fingers squeezing slightly by your hip as he spoke.
"Mine too. Sherlock used to say they were boring and that we might as well have gone to the zoo to look at rhinos. He ended up spending 5 months trying to prove that the rhinos were descendants from the triceratops and then avoided me for 3 weeks when he realised there was no connection at all."
"That sounds about right. Though I can't imagine Sherlock enjoying it here very much anyway.." Mycroft began to guide you to a small bench just off the side to sit down, still giving you the view of the beautiful dinosaur bones.
"He didn't. When we were much younger he would kick off until Mummy and Father would tell us it's time to go and I had to go with them.. Then as we got a little older and Sherlock properly found his legs, he would simply run from the doors round to the science museum. Of course mummy and father had to follow him as he was so young, but one time I decided to stay here. They didn't realise I hadn't followed them until it was time to go home 5 hours later." Mycroft spoke quietly.
"Found his legs? That's at, what, four? Five? How young were you?"
"I was 9 the first time, I think." Now, Mycroft, you don't just 'think'; you know. Your hand moved to rest above his own on his knee, brushing your thumb fondly over his knuckles. "But it isn't all bad. Some of my best days as a child were spent here, and a lot of the staff were very kind and would teach me extra facts that weren't displayed. There was one gentleman who even gave me his own copies of some books that they had here. I'd wander the whole museum in time but I always found myself back here on this bench just.. watching. This room felt more like home than my very house sometimes. It was the room where I could escape the real world and find peace. Eventually Mummy, Father and Sherlock stopped bothering with the visits because Sherlock found the science museum boring after he'd prove them wrong on something each time, but I'd still pop back in on occasion without them.. Coming to think about it, I've never actually brought anybody here with me at all." You squeezed at his fingers and settled back into the bench.
"Well I am incredibly glad that I found out about your little interest, and I feel even more honoured that you let me come here with you." You beamed. And it was the truth. Evidently, this little museum meant much more to Mycroft than you could have ever imagined and it warmed your heart to know that he trusted you to see him nerd out over some bones.
"Eventually I used this very building as the scaffolding to build my mind palace. My files on Sherlock, very appropriately, are nestled in the human biology room. But most people's information is either stored in the entrance, where Dippy remains over Hope, might I add, or in a few of the rooms I find less interesting.." You didn't have to ask to know he was referencing 'that room with all the bloody rocks'. "I love most of the galleries too much to taint them with information on people that aren't important. The likes of Gregory and Doctor Watson now reside in Hintze Hall as the years have passed." His eyes remained focused in front of him, unblinking, as though he was wandering the very halls at that moment.
"And where.. where are my files?" You had to ask, really. Since he was on the subject anyway. "If you've put them in the marine reptiles room when you know I'm terrified of the ocean I shall never forgive you." Mycroft's hand flipped beneath yours so the pads of your fingers brushed before he blinked and looked over to you, a small smile on his face.
"Here." Oh. Well that's.. something. You shifted to give him a quick kiss on his cheek, knowing he wasn't overly fond of PDA and tugged him to stand.
"And on that note, I think we should go and grab some lunch before you make me cry in front of the dinosaurs."
---
After lunch, you both spent a few more hours walking from room to room (and of course circling round to the dinosaur gallery again) before you decided to call it a day at 4pm. Before departing, you headed towards the toilets that happened to be beside the little gift shop and you had a browse while Mycroft was occupied. Grinning, you picked up a deep blue plush triceratops and stroked a finger across its back. It was just small enough that, after purchasing, you could hide the little guy in the loose fabric of the sweatshirt you wore, acting innocent as you waited back outside near the wall. After going to the bathroom yourself, the pair of you headed outside where a car was waiting for you. Sliding in the back seat, you couldn't contain your little gift anymore.
"Surprise!" You laughed, producing the small toy from under your clothes and into the hands of the man beside you. He studied it briefly before beginning to laugh himself as he reached into his inner pocket and handed you the matching dinosaur, though purple in colour. "God, we're such children aren't we?" You noted as you swapped plushie companions, each of you brushing a finger on its nose as though it were a small pet. "I daren't think what your colleagues would say if they knew you were now the proud owner of a baby triceratops teddy that's.." You glanced at the tag. "..Suitable for children aged 12 months plus!"
"Probably nothing as bad as if they realised said triceratops was going to take proud placement on my desk at home." He beamed. "Thank you, this really does mean a great deal to me." You knew he wasn't just talking about the toy that rolled around his long fingers and you shifted to rest your head lightly on his shoulder.
"We can come back any time. I, for one, know I'll never get bored of looking through the galleries.. Or I'll never get bored of watching you light up as we walk through said galleries. Either or works, really." He hummed in response, his emotions slightly overwhelmed from the day and its revelations into his past. "Plus there were about 10 other little dinos in the shop and I've always been one to want a full collection.. so, if we pace ourselves, that's at least 10 more trips."
"13.. Although that could be tripled if we take the colour variations into account."
"Oh, of course! Can't half-arse a collection or it's just pointless."
"I concur."
"That's settled then. Almost 40 more trips to finish off our collection.. And thennnn we can move onto the figurines." Mycroft let out a laugh beside you and tilted to rest his head atop yours for the remainder of the journey home.
---
The evening between you was shared over a meal (where, as promised, a small toast was made to the memory of Sir Dippy) before Mycroft sat to finish the papers for Greg. Eventually you collapsed into bed at a relatively reasonable time, groaning at the throbbing in your legs from the day's adventure before finally slipping into rest.
---
The next day passed relatively quickly. The morning was spent visiting Greg in his office to drop off the papers before the pair of you took a small stroll through the streets of London. Eventually, Mycroft and yourself even got a text message from Sherlock giving a (albeit half-arsed) apology for his behaviour the day before and the rest of the day was spent in bliss. That was until exactly 17 minutes after you got back home when Mycroft's mobile began to ring. He swallowed deeply, showing you the caller ID of the person he had been dreading to speak to post-Eurus and answering.
"Ah, yes.. Hello, Mummy."
It’s not every day that a model walked into your studio who by every definition of the word, was perfect.
Dozens of gorgeous women came by each and every week, each one more beautiful than the last and you couldn’t ask for a better job.
The elevator doors opened and the woman scheduled for your afternoon appointment stepped inside your studio on the ninth floor, and you had never seen such an attractive woman with such stunning features.
Calling her gorgeous would almost be an insult. Words could not and would not do her beauty justice, or would be enough to describe how attractive she was.
She had dark shoulder-length hair and walked with confidence in an elegant looking black and grey dress and her sexy aura filled the studio.
“Hello, I’m Saerom!” she shyly introduced herself, a small smile on her rosy red lips and you melted just by hearing her voice.
“Nice to meet you, Saerom,” you replied.
“Please take care of me,” she said and bowed politely. Her hair and makeup styled perfectly, nothing looked out of place and the smile on her face only made her look even more beautiful.
“Shall we get started, Miss Saerom?”
Saerom nodded and you directed her to the set as you still had a few things to set up beforehand. She stood against the white backdrop, eyes roaming the bright lights and other equipment spewed everywhere, tripods and lights all ensuring that each model looked as best as you could make them look.
You readied your camera and glanced at Saerom, realizing how busty she was and what a curvy deadly body her dress showed off.
“Ready when you are,” you said as you removed your lens cap, giving one final check to all your equipment hoping to somehow do justice to the actual goddess standing in front of you.
Saerom flashed her best smile as you pressed the camera shutter and took the first shot of the shoot, capturing her beauty as best as possible. Her side profile was perfect, her features flawless in a way that they had been sculpted by the gods. Her striking jawline, her cute nose, her perfectly formed lips. The ideal woman put together as if to say it won’t get better than this.
Your finger moved faster than a cheetah hunting a prey, taking hundreds of shots per minute as Saerom displayed a variety of poses and facial expressions, each one perfect in their own way.
“How am I doing?” she asked.
“You’re doing amazing. The camera loves you.”
Truer words had never come out of your mouth. Saerom behind a camera was a natural fit, her smile beaming with confidence, every pose and angle flawless as she was. After all, when you’re being paid to be beautiful for a living you’ve really made it.
“Make sure to capture my best side.”
“You don’t have a bad side,” you responded. Saerom blushed cutely.
Two hours flew by, Saerom’s experience playing a huge part and even with makeup touch-ups and additional wardrobe changes there was time to spare.
“That should be a wrap. Thank you for your hard work, Miss Saerom” you said. You never wanted to stop taking pictures of her and definitely took more than necessary, but more was always better than less.
“Can I see some?” Saerom eagerly asked.
“It’ll take some time to get them all transferred and processed if you don't mind waiting,” you said as you removed the card from your camera and slipped it inside your laptop on the nearby table.
“Not at all! I’ll wait over here,” she said as she took a seat on the nearby black leather couch.
You had taken literally thousands of pictures and it would take some time to add them all, much less edit them. Sorting quickly through a handful of different outfits and looks you picked the best ones, doing a quick edit on them before transferring them over to the large monitor next to your laptop.
You gestured for Saerom to come over and she scurried over right away. Her eyes grew wide as she looked through the handpicked batch of pictures, proud of the hard work both of you had put in and the satisfying results.
“You’re an amazing photographer,” she shyly said.
“An artist is only as good as their art,” you replied, almost regretting spewing out such a cheesy line but earning another smile out of Saerom.
“We still have some time left don’t we?” she asked. Most of your appointments were scheduled in three-hour blocks, allowing plenty of time for preparations and in case something went wrong. And something almost always went wrong.
“You are correct, Miss Saerom.”
“Perfect. Can you shoot some more of me then?”
“I’d love to.”
Saerom returned to the set, the look on her face uncertain as you went to set up your camera again.
“I don’t have any more outfits to wear,” she said, unsure of herself.
“There’s a closet in the corner with spare outfits, I don’t know your size but they should fit.”
Saerom hesitated for a moment. “That won’t be necessary.”
In a moment’s notice, Saerom acted on impulse and shedded her dress, baring her immaculate body and the incredibly sexy pair of matching lace black lingerie underneath. You weren’t expecting this moment of spontaneity and your jaw dropped.
“What?” she smirked. “You’ve shot women in lingerie before haven’t you?”
“Y-yes, but-”
“Then you won’t mind me getting more comfortable will you?”
“N-not at all-”
“Good.”
Saerom continued with a playful smile and kicked her heels off to the side, leaving her standing in the middle of the set barefoot in her underwear, the insane curves of her tight body front and center for your viewing pleasure.
Her full breasts were barely covered, showing abundant cleavage and the flimsy piece of lace did little to contain them, showing off the size of her perfect chest as if they wanted to escape from their prison. Her gorgeous legs led up to soft creamy thighs, and Saerom’s toned abs looked as delicious as the rest of her body, clearly the result of hours of work at the gym.
"Incredible," you said in awe.
"Like what you see?" Saerom asked with a cute giggle. You found yourself speechless.
"I've always wanted to be an underwear model. My company would never let me though, they love protecting my image," Saerom said sarcastically as her eyes rolled.
"You certainly have the perfect body for it."
"Thank you," Saerom said as her cheeks reddened. "I work very hard for it."
"It shows."
Saerom switched from shy and cute to sexy instantaneously as she flipped her hair seductively, running her hands through it as she lifted her arms over her head. Your camera shutter went crazy as you started shooting your newly undressed model, not wanting to waste a second.
"How do I look?" she asked as she bit her lip.
"You're very sexy, Saerom."
"Am I? How about some closeup shots then?"
Without even responding you practically ripped your heavy camera from its tripod as you detached it, closing the distance between you Saerom, taking a deep breath as you approached.
“Think of these as exclusive shots. Just for us,” Saerom said, showing off to the camera.
While the previous shoot was rather professional, Saerom was rather quiet for the majority of it, focusing on her poses and angles. Now that she was opening up in more ways than one you wanted to get to know her.
“Tell me something about yourself, Saerom.”
“What would you like to know?” she asked, pouting her lips at the camera.
“Something...interesting.”
“Interesting?” she pondered. “I share a place with eight other girls.”
“Eight? That’s insane. I can’t imagine how long the line for the bathroom is.”
“You get used to it, it becomes fun most of the time. Having time on my own like this is actually kind of weird for me now.”
“I’m exhausted just thinking about it.”
Saerom laughed and you could tell she was becoming more comfortable around you,
“It was difficult at first but I think I would be bored living by myself now,” Saerom said as she spun around on her heels and placed her hands on her hips, bending over enough to give a good look at her plump round ass as her eyes kept contact with your camera, trying to keep your pants from tightening.
“Fuck, you have a really nice ass, Saerom,” you blurted out even without thinking. She didn’t seem to mind.
“Thanks. It’s my favorite part of me,” she proudly said.
You couldn’t stop staring at Saerom’s heavenly sculpted backside, wondering how soft those cheeks felt, but you quickly tried chasing those thoughts away as you didn’t want a bulge forming in your pants in front of her.
“You’re one of the best models I’ve had the pleasure to work with,” you said, distracting yourself.
“Really? You’re just saying that to make me feel good.”
“I’m not. Most models that show up don’t give me any trouble, occasionally you’ll get a spoiled diva that shows up late and clearly doesn’t want to be here and it ruins the atmosphere of the whole shoot.”
You made sure to get closeup shots of every part of Saerom’s body, taking extra care in framing her ass perfectly before walking to the front of her sexy body and taking several shots of her wonderful breasts.
“But you walked in and this whole place lit up.”
“That’s sweet.”
“It’s the truth.”
Saerom paused. “What do you think?” Saerom asked, cupping her breasts. You felt your heart racing.
“They’re perfect.”
“How about a closer view then?” she asked. You zoomed in and aimed at her chest, but Saerom shyly smiled and aimed your camera down.
“That’s not what I meant.”
Before you could put any thought into her words Saerom reached behind her back and unclasped her bra, divesting it from her body as she exposed her sizable pale breasts, bouncing as they were freed.
“Holy shit, Saerom.”
“How about you put that camera down and we have a little fun?”
Without having a chance to respond you got rid of your camera as Saerom’s topless body walked towards you, your eyes immediately drawn to her full round breasts and salivating over them.
“Do any of your models ever let you touch them?”
“I try to keep things professional.”
“That’s boring,” Saerom said with a seductive smirk as she grabbed your hands and guided them to her breasts, helping you squeeze them. You moaned at their softness and how they fit in your hands, the weight of her breasts, and how perfectly shaped they were made you lose your mind.
“You’re so perfect,” you said as you squeezed and groped Saerom’s tits, squeezing two perfect handfuls as her pretty pink nipples hardened against your palms as she looked into your eyes. The fabric of your pants constricted and there was no stopping it this time.
“You can touch all you want. Taste me.”
“I will,” you said hungrily as you crashed your lips against hers and wrapped your hands around her bare waist, The taste of Saerom’s cherry lips entered your mouth. You pulled her in tighter as she returned your advances, tongues dancing together as the scent of her perfume lingered in the air. You wanted Saerom, bad. You wanted to rip her panties off and fuck her against your set, forcing to pace yourself and keep yourself under control.
You broke the kiss and exchanged lustful stares, not wasting a second as you dove into her breasts, licking stripes up and down her cleavage, and brought your mouth to her tits and teased her sensitive nipples. Saerom moaned as you flicked delicate circles around each one before sucking tenderly, earning gasps and whiny moans.
Schedules be damned, you took your time with each of her breasts, giving each equal attention and not leaving your hands from her flesh, not moving on until her hard nipples were covered in your saliva.
“Mmm, fuck,” Saerom moaned, caressing your hair as you devoured and buried yourself in her tits. Playful licking turned into loud slurping, and when that wasn’t enough you nibbled on each of her swollen pink nubs, grazing on her stiff nipples in between your teeth gently as her moans grew louder and whinier.
With all of your attention on Saerom’s tits, you sucked and sucked with no intention of stopping until your lips were numb, looking up every so often to see the pleasure running through Saerom.
Meanwhile, with your mouth full of Saerom’s breasts you felt a hand move down to your crotch and squeezed as she felt you up through your pants which became painfully tight.
“I must be turning you on,” she giggled.
“You are, you really are. Fuck, you’re so hot, Saerom,” you growled.
“I could say the same to you,” she said. “I got you all worked up, didn’t I? It’s only fair I do something about it.”
Saerom stopped you in your tracks and led you over to the couch, playfully pushing you against it as you fell down and took a seat. Slowly lowering to her knees she rubbed up and down your thighs, biting her lip, watching as you removed your shirt in preparation.
“How many women have you fucked on this couch?”
“Not enough,” you smirked.
“Time to add one more to your tally then.”
With a sly grin on her pretty face, Saerom unzipped your pants, quickly yanking them with your boxers down to your ankles with your assistance. Your cock sprang free, throbbing in the cold air and Saerom’s eyes went wide at the sight of it.
Saerom licked her lips, feeling an insatiable desire and hunger deep inside her at the sight of your unleashed manhood. As she admired your rock hard shaft, finding herself unable to draw her eyes away as her long slender fingers wrapped tightly around your hard cock, applying firm pressure and began stroking you up and down, feeling every inch.
“You have a very nice cock,” Saerom said, lips curling wide as she pumped you slowly and drizzled her fingers with your leaking pre-cum. She kissed the very tip of your cock, making your whole body jerk as her soft lips explored your cock and traveled down your base.
Every kiss on your shaft was loaded with hunger, and once Saerom reached the end of your cock she flattened her tongue against your base while you watched her every move. You moaned as her wet warm tongue moved slowly up and down your shaft, giving delicate strokes until she found your sensitive tip and swirled around your swollen head, lapping up every leaking drop.
“Yummy,” she said, spitting on your cock several times and spreading it all over your shaft, jerking you off and keeping eye contact.
Saerom kissed your tip one more time before she parted her plump red lips with your cock, taking the first few inches of you into her warm wet mouth.
“Oh f-fuuck,” you moaned loudly as Saerom hollowed her cheeks and sealed her lips tight around your cock. Saerom sucked you off slowly and tenderly while her sexy gaze was glued to you, full lips sliding up and down your shaft.
With constant eye contact Saerom built up your pleasure, taking her time with sucking your cock, enjoying it just as much as she moaned around your shaft.
“Fuck, Saerom," you moaned and threw your head back."That feels fucking good."
She smiled with your cock in her mouth, the bright studio lights letting you see her face perfectly as she began to bob her head up and down, her tongue playing with the underside of your shaft.
Saerom upped her pace as she swallowed more of your cock inside her warm mouth, the redness of her lips fading as her dark lipstick began smearing on your shaft, combined with streaks of her spit.
Her pretty hands did not stay idle, using one to stroke up and down your thigh, digging her nails in as the other cupped and fondled your balls.
“So heavy and full," she said as her nose nudged against your cock and planted messy wet kisses on your balls."I'll make sure they’re empty when I'm done with you."
Saerom continued to pleasure your balls while jerking off your needy cock, licking wide stripes, and glazing your sack with drool. She sucked on each one tenderly, giving your balls equal attention and hungrily slurping on them individually as you moaned louder, letting your satisfaction be known.
Using both her lips and tongue all over your balls, Saerom blew hot air against each of them before bringing your cock back into her mouth. Those deadly eyes glued to your own as she sucked slowly from tip to base, swallowing up every last inch as you hit the back of her throat without any real effort.
“Oh god, Saerom…”
The satisfaction in her eyes was obvious as she took you down her mouth with ease, her throat tightening around you as she relaxed her muscles, not even letting out a single gag.
Her soft wet lips felt so good wrapped around your cock, and you instinctively grabbed the back of her head, guiding her movements as she bobbed faster, lips kissing your base with each stroke.
It wasn’t long before you encouraged an even quicker pace, Saerom hungrily slurping down every inch that impaled her throat, desperately trying not to go wild and fuck her throat as much as you wanted to.
Saerom kept your wet shaft deep down her throat, working her muscles and keeping her lips sealed around every inch as she played with your balls, drooling all over your cock.
"Fuck, Saerom. You're so damn good at that."
"I've had a lot of practice."
Saerom hummed and gave your cock one more slow satisfying slurp from base to tip, releasing it with a loud messy pop as she furiously jerked off your messy wet shaft.
Not even bothering to wipe off leftover spit and lipstick on her face, Saerom's lust-filled gaze focused on you as she made you wait in anticipation.
Keeping your cock in her small delicate hands, Saerom carefully made a show of
sliding her panties down her toned legs, tossing them onto your set.
"A little present from me. Keep them."
With barely any time to react, you stole a glance at Saerom's beautiful bare pussy as she straddled you, the warmth of her naked body radiating around you as her comforting thighs rested against your own.
Saerom really was like no other woman, as cliché as it sounded. You could see it in her eyes that she wanted your cock, not just for her own satisfaction but for yours, aching to share in mutual pleasure.
The way she held your cock in her hand, aiming it between her spread thighs and between the pink wet flesh of her pussy, slowly rubbing it against her folds was agonizing, deliberately teasing both of you with a sly expression on her face.
You understood what she was doing as Saerom continued to run your cock through the wet warmth of her hole, but that didn’t make it any less easy to hold out, each sensation running through your body making it harder to maintain an ounce of composure.
“Saerom…”
She didn’t say a word as she collected her slick on your shaft, mixing it with leftover saliva, coating your cock in her fluids. Saerom thankfully shared your impatience and knew when enough was enough.
“I’m so wet,” Saerom bluntly said, the first set of words that left her lips in several minutes.
In what felt like the longest few seconds of your life Saerom lifted her wide hips up in the air, aiming herself carefully, and sank down on the first few inches of your cock.
Saerom gasped loudly and you shared an equally loud groan at the feeling of penetrating her body, the intense sensation of entering her pussy for the first time was unlike anything else. There was a lot to take in. Saerom’s wetness surrounded your cock as expected, followed by extreme warmth and tightness that overwhelmed you.
Gently moving her body up and down Saerom took it easy at first, letting her wet walls be parted with more of your hard cock, clinging tightly around your shaft that gradually disappeared in between her thighs.
“How do I feel?” Saerom asked as she wrapped her hands around the back of your neck, using her hips and sliding up and down your cock, coating more of your shaft in her juices.
“So fucking tight.”
She beamed at your response, sinking deeper and deeper until she almost bottomed herself out and stopped just above the base of your shaft.
“You feel really good inside me.”
Her eyes closed and her head whipped back as you both moaned together and felt her tight walls squeezing you tightly, letting herself get used to the rock hard flesh fully entering her body.
“I need every inch inside me,” Saerom pleaded, not that you were in a position to stop her, letting her control every movement. You watched between her beautiful thighs every move she made as her slick lips gripped your cock, ensuring you never left the warmth of her body.
In one swift movement, Saerom lifted herself from your cock, moving so just the tip of your shaft was inside her, and slammed her hips down and impaled herself to the hilt, moaning at being completely filled.
“Fuck!”
Saerom didn’t allow herself any adjustment, she didn’t need it and neither did you as she smiled devilishly.
“Ride my cock, Saerom,” you demanded and your orders were followed right away as she began bouncing on your dick, her mouth agape as she threw her head back in pleasure. You snaked your hands around her slim waist and grabbed her ass with both hands, kneading the soft flesh and encouraging her to continue dictating the pace.
“Stretch me out...stretch my tight little pussy just like that. Fuck, I wish I could ride you all day.”
“I could always cancel the rest of my appointments.”
“F-fuck, don’t tempt me. But I have my own schedules after this too,” she frowned.
“Guess we’ll have to schedule another session then.”
Saerom nodded in response and your hands squeezed her cheeks tighter, giving her ass a few quick slaps as she gasped, looking at the way she was falling apart already as she rode you.
Continuing to test the waters you gave repeated smacks against Saerom’s plentiful backside, the satisfying sounds of both raised palms striking her bare cheeks filled your ears. Saerom whined cutely in response as her walls clenched around your cock with each impact, not using enough force to sting but just giving her body a little something extra.
“You like being spanked, Saerom?”
“I-I do.”
“I’ll have to remember that for next time,” you smirked. Saerom took the opportunity to increase the pace, allowing herself to adjust and found the perfect angle to take your shaft inside her, bouncing her delicious big ass on your cock.
“You’re drenched, Saerom. Do you always get this wet?” you asked. She hesitated before shyly nodding.
“It’s mostly your fault,” she timidly replied, establishing a harsher rhythm as she rode you with more intensity and fervor, her perfect set of tits bouncing hypnotically with every movement.
“I take full responsibility.”
Settling into the sharp pleasure Saerom gave in to her desires and rode your cock faster, covering the entire surface of your shaft in her slick as you explored her voluptuous naked body and ran your hands up every inch of her bare skin you had access to.
You started with Saerom’s creamy thighs, caressing them softly before moving on to her sexy toned tummy, feeling her tight sculpted abs against your fingertips. She reacted to every touch audibly as your hands made their way back to her luscious breasts, cupping them and keeping your hands filled as she slammed her ass harder against your cock, creating more pleasure.
"You ride me so well, Saerom," you said as you pinched her nipples, feeling her pussy tightening and more of her juices leaking out. You kept your hands filled with her wonderful pale breasts as her ass repeatedly slammed down on your crotch, using your cock for her pleasure.
"It helps that I love your cock," Saerom said as she rode you faster and faster as sweat began to mist all over of your bodies, thighs crashing against your own with every bounce.
"And I love you creaming all over my cock."
The mere act of Saerom taking your cock in and out of her body with ease was driving you crazy, her hot wet pussy wrapped so tightly around your cock you felt like you could burst at any moment.
You couldn’t keep up with all the sensations running through your body, each time Saerom’s ass smacked against your body brought you closer to the point of no return, her juices flowing down her thighs confirming that she was equally reaching past her own limits.
Saerom's tight pussy began pulsating around your shaft as she became breathless, every forceful slam of her full hips brought down on your body making her wetter and wetter as she was barely able to keep her eyes open.
"Are you close, Saerom?" you asked. It took several moments before she could form an answer, and even then she could only nod in response.
"I need you cumming all over my cock."
"I w-will, fuck. Can you cum with me?"
"I'd love to," you said as desperation and need filled her eyes, knowing neither could hold on much longer. You watched her riding your cock just a little longer before growing tired of being passive and grabbed onto her hips, thrusting deep into her tight dripping cunt as she impaled herself on you.
You wanted every bit of pleasure out of Saerom's body and you were going to take it.
"Oh fuuuck! Just like that!"
It took a few thrusts to find the perfect timing, hitting Saerom's spot at just the right angle, keeping a firm grip on her sweaty body and trying to match her rhythm, both of you working together to achieve your collective goal of reaching climax.
You couldn’t help but stare at her, watching her gorgeous features contorting every time you filled her to the hilt. The air in the room grew harder to take in as you drove yourself in Saerom with desperation, both aching for release. The loud slapping of hot flesh against flesh fought for dominance against the equally loud moaning escaping Saerom’s lips.
“Fuck, fuck, baby, I-I'm gonna cum!" Saerom cried out, the three most beautiful words you had heard all day as you held onto her body tight, preparing yourself for the intensity of what was about to happen.
"I am too, fuck!"
“Cum inside me, please, I need you to fill my tight little pussy,” Saerom begged, and you did everything you could to hold out just long enough to let her achieve orgasm first. You weakly smiled and savored the last few moments before the inevitable.
The final few seconds arrived as your breathing deepened, looking dead center into Saerom’s beautiful eyes filled with need and desire. Without another word you felt Saerom’s juices overflowing as her pussy tightened almost painfully so, thighs trembling violently as her cunt squeezed the life out of your shaft as she came, leaving a mess over your cock and wrapped her arms tighter around the back of your neck and desperately moaning into your ears as her body turned to jelly.
Saerom looked beautiful as her orgasm took over her body, unable to control the volume of satisfied moans leaving her lips as she slowly came down from her intense high. She rocked her hips back and forth to ride out her orgasm and helped you join her as you felt all the tension in your body being released.
Unable to take anymore your cock throbbed inside Saerom, letting out needy grunts and moans as you exploded inside her, emptying your thick hot cum deep inside her pussy and pumping her full of your seed as her body took spurt after spurt as she was filled to the brim.
She rested her head on your shoulder, swaying her hips to coax every drop out of you, the feeling of your warmth deep inside her satisfying her to no end.
“You feel so warm,” she faintly said as your bodies took a much-deserved rest and stared into each other's eyes, both trying to catch a breath at the wonderful experience you just shared.
“That...was...amazing,” you said, heavily gasping.
“It was. I haven’t been fucked like that in a while,” Saerom smiled and kissed you, giving you one more taste of lips as she savored the warmth left in her body.
She gradually lifted her body off yours carefully as your cock plopped out and the huge thick load you had left inside began slowly dripping out of her pussy, running down her flushed thighs. Responding only in tired gasps she tried to catch her breath, watching the mess inside her continue to show itself.
Both of you too tired to move let alone speak, Saerom knelt and licked your shaft clean and tasted your combined juices, lips slurping slowly from base to tip to not miss a drop.
She headed over to your workstation with your cum still dripping down her thighs, grabbed your camera and took several full-body shots of her naked sweaty body, running her hand through her messy hair and smiling for the camera.
"Thank you," Saerom said as she ended up in your naked lap again.
"For what?"
"For taking such pretty pictures of me."
"It's all part of the job. It's easy when I have such a pretty model."
Her cheeks reddened again, the smile etched across her lips something you couldn’t ever get enough of.
"I can't wait to see the full versions."
"I'll have them sent to your company by the end of the week. Just the ones for the magazine of course,” you said.
"I look forward to it. I had a lot of fun today."
"I did too, Saerom."
"Can I see you again? After work?" she asked.
"I usually don't finish until the sun goes down."
"I don't mind, I'll be pretty busy myself. Maybe I'll even take some photos of my own for you."
"Oh? I didn't know you were a photographer as well."
"I'm just an amateur," she shyly said. "It’s just a hobby when I have the time."
"I'd love to see some shots."
"I'll send some then. They might not be as risqué as what we took today."
"As long as you’re in them I’ll love them."
Saerom accepted your praise with a grin on her features and regretfully dressed and left quietly, leaving you tired, sweaty and in need of a shower with her occupied in your thoughts.
Whoever the next model was you knew they couldn’t compare to Saerom, and you couldn’t wait for work to be over.
Chapter 13- A duel
A week later, Hogwarts managed to be rebuilt, with new additions along with it. Now that the school was able to function again, students were allowed to return to their everyday classes. With the rebuilding came new rules and regulations. Apparition on Hogwarts grounds is forbidden, no student or professor can apparate to or from Hogwarts. Hogsmeade trips for third years and above are cancelled until December. Aurors would patrol the grounds and beyond until Christmas break, ensuring the safety of the school.
The DADA classes introduced dueling clubs to second years and above, for the purpose of teaching more advanced defense techniques against the dark arts, along with dueling in general. The first meeting took place during a Thursday evening, just before dinner was starting. Professor Merrythought along with the charms professor, professor Elms, worked together to begin the club and allow for demonstrations.
The professors were the first to duel, using spells like expelliarmus, protego, and finite. They picked and allowed students to volunteer to duel each other. No nasty jinxes or spells are allowed during the duel, the professors didn’t want the students to greatly hurt each other. As the duel went on, people like Abraxas fought Tom, Lucy fought a Hufflepuff boy and lost against him.
As the professors praised the students who fought, they also looked to the crowd of students for other participants.
“Shall we have someone from Ravenclaw join the duel, miss l/n?” Professor Merrythought looked towards you.
“Me?” you pointed towards yourself.
Merrythought nodded and motioned you to join her on the stand, “Professor Elms tells me that you excel in his charms class, I’m sure you’ll do well in this duel.”
Professor Elms called up the last person you wanted to see, Lela Selwyn. She walked to the stand with her smug face and brought out her wand.
“A Slytherin versus a Ravenclaw, this shall be an interesting match.” Elms spoke as both him and Merrythought walked off of the stand.
“Now remember, no dirty tricks, this will be a fair match, wands at the ready.” Merrythought said.
Both you and Lela brought out your wands and held them to your face.
“Careful now, l/n. Wouldn’t want you falling off the stage.” Lela said, an evil smirk plastered across her face. A few Slytherins started to chuckle at her comment.
“I’ve told you before, Selwyn. Next time I fall, I’m bringing you down with me.” You set your wand down and turned to walk away from her, after walking 10 steps you turn around and point your wand at her in an offensive stance.
“On the count of three, cast your charms to only disarm your opponent, no nasty jinxes of any kind.” Merrythought instructed.
“One”
“Two”
“Flipendo!”
Lela pointed her wand at you, blue light erupted from it, casting its way at you.
“Finite!” you shot a spell back, the mixture of red and blue light erupting from both of your wands caused a small explosion, causing you to step back a few feet. You looked at Lela with furrowed brows.
“The professor said we had to disarm our opponent, not knock them backwards, or can you not understand simple instructions Selwyn?” your hand gripped at your wand, visibly irritated.
“Miss l/n is right Miss Selwyn, the point of this demonstration is not to harm our opponents, it is to disarm them. Please try again.”
Lela looked as if she hadn’t been paying attention, rolled her eyes and turned to walk 10 steps away to regain her position, you did the same.
The countdown began again, and this time you were the one who shot a spell first.
“Expelliarmus!” you waved your wand and pointed it at Lela, knocking her wand out of her hand.
“Excellent miss l/n. Now, the both of you may continue with your duel with more spells that are in your inventory, but remember, no nasty ones. Please begin.”
After the next countdown ended, the both of you lifted your wands, ready to cast the next spell that came to mind.
“Relashio!” Lela shouted at you. You managed to dodge the spell by kneeling to the ground.
“Impedimenta!” you tried to slow down Lela’s movement, but she countered it again.
“Levicorpus!” the spell had hit you. Your ankle hoisted into the air as you flung upside down, flailing to get control again. Your uniform skirt began to fall to the rules of gravity, but thank Merlin you decided to wear stockings underneath today.
“Liberacorpus!” you chanted the counter curse for the spell Lela was using and landed back on the ground with a thud. She wanted to play dirty by using spells that wouldn’t necessarily cause harm, but were still a pain in the ass. The professors, who seemed to be invested in the duel, seemed like they didn’t care about what spells were being used, so you decided to use some special spells underneath your sleeve against the person you despised the most.
“Saltu Caeli!” a vaulting charm of some sort was cast out of your wand, it flung Lela into the air for a few seconds before you could cast your second charm, “Incarcerous!” Ropes had wrapped themselves around Lela, who was still in the air, and brought her down to the floor with a bang. A few gasps were heard amongst the crowd, and a few claps as well.
Lela, who looked a bit flushed, reached for her wand and undid the ropes, got up and pointed her wand at you. You didn’t know what she was going to cast next, but you had Finite ready just in case.
“Incendio!” a burst of flames came your way, but you had countered it, and when you could finally look at Lela again when some smoke subsided, she had this crazy look in her eyes.
“Stupefy!” another spell shot at you, but again, you managed to counter it.
“Expelliarmus!” you tried to disarm Lela before she could use another spell against you, but she dodged it and prepared for another spell.
“Serpensortia!” Lela let out another spell, a black looking snake conjured itself from her wand and landed on the dueling table. A few gasps were heard around the room. You took a step back as it slithered towards you, baring its teeth.
Shooting a spell at it wouldn’t do it any good, if the snake managed to survive it would become even more irritated and attack you even faster. The situation you were in felt all too familiar as well.
The professors took notice of the live snake on the dueling table and pushed through students to get to it. While they were making their way towards the table, the snake came closer and closer to you.
“Vipera Evanesca.” Merrythought had cast a spell towards the snake and walked onto the stage in front of you.
“Miss Selwyn, what are you thinking about bringing a snake to a duel? A venomous one at that, 15 points from Slytherin, take your seat,” Merrythought turned towards you, stern look on her face, “Take your seat please.” you were guessing that she wasn’t impressed with the actions you took either.
You gulped as you headed back to the Ravenclaw section. The fellow Ravenclaw students gave you a pat on the back and said that it was okay and that they were glad you stood up for yourself in the duel.
After the dueling club ended, the students were dismissed for dinner.
You met up with Azalea and Melissa, who decided to sit out on the dueling club to do things for their other classes. Of course, in a friendly fashion, you decided to tell them about your duel.
“She shot a snake at you?” Melissa said, choking on her potatoes.
“Don’t choke, madam Crafince is a bit too busy to deal with you if you collapse.” Azalea said.
“Yeah she did. Luckily, Merrythought made it disintegrate. I really hate her, you know, Lela.” you said as you cut into your food.
“In my opinion, I think she was getting mad at the fact that you were getting the upper hand and started to play dirty.” Azalea said.
“That's what I thought, too. I’m just glad I’m not the one that lost 15 points from my house.”
“Don’t worry, knowing them, Slytherin will gain them back in some way.” Melissa snorted.
“Did you get the chance to visit Naomi today?” you asked them.
“Azalea did, I had to help Utonell with her plants in Herbology.” Melissa replied.
“She’s still the same. They managed to heal all of her external injuries, but she hasn’t woken up yet. I hope she’ll be okay.” Azalea ripped apart a bread roll with her fingers.
“I’m sure she’ll be okay, most of the students that were knocked out are waking up, it won’t be long before she does too.” you reassure a worried Azalea who looked like she was about to ruin her dinner by squeezing the rest of it.
After returning to your dorm later that night, you collapsed onto the bed in exhaustion. You felt something tingle your arm and looked down, Orion had made her way onto your palm. You picked her up gently and began talking to her.
“I’m glad you’re nothing like that nasty snake I had to face today Orion,” you coo to her, rubbing circles on her head, “I never want to see Lela again, but I have almost 5 more years with her.” You placed Orion on her small pillow and fed her some snake food before you went to the girls' lavatory to take a shower and change into your pajamas.
The next morning, you had gotten an owl from your dad about some big news that had occurred back home.
Dear Y/N,
My sweet girl, I have big news. Your mother and I have learned that we are expecting a new member to this family! Your mother is around two months pregnant, and we are all so happy, and I hope that you will be when you get this owl. I hope to see you this Christmas, so we can rejoice as a family for this miracle.
Love, dad. ♡
You dropped the note onto your toast, it being smeared with some butter.
“What’s wrong?” Azalea asked, swallowing her cereal quickly, worried at your shocked appearance.
“My mom’s pregnant.” you whispered, cleaning the butter off of your letter.
“Really? That’s wonderful, y/n! Congratulations. Why don’t you look happy?” she asks.
“I am happy, I guess. It’s just that I never had the best relationship with my mom, so I don’t know how I should feel.” you tucked the letter into your robe and began to eat.
“What do you mean by ‘the best relationship with your mom’?” Azalea asked.
“Ever since I started doing magic, she’s just been acting weird. We’ve been getting into more fights, so I don’t know if I’m fully happy about this.”
“I understand, I remember when my parents divorced my mom and I used to not get along either, hence why I moved to Spain with my dad, but it got better. I’m sure you’ll make a great big sister to your new sibling.” Azalea gave you a hopeful smile, which lifted your spirits enough for you to stomach your breakfast.
Your classes for that day were plain. Barely focusing on what you were learning, your thoughts were all focused around the news in that letter. You didn’t think that your parents even wanted another child, they seemed pretty content with two kids. In the end you decided not to send an owl back to your dad, they’d see you at Christmas anyway, which is only a month away.
After classes had ended, you spent the day in the Ravenclaw common room on the sofa near the fireplace, blankly staring at the potions book in your hand. Slughorn said that he was planning on making a healing potion during the next class, and advised the students to study up on the ingredients used in the potion.
Trying your best to concentrate on your book, your eyes skimmed over the words, not absorbing any of the information. The crackling of the fire popped in your ears, making it that much harder to focus. It was snowing outside, so studying out in the courtyard was out of the picture. You reached for the letter inside your robe and pulled it out to read it again. It was only your dad that had written to you, not even your own mother could write a sentence to you. After staring at the letter for a few more seconds, you reached over to the fire and threw the letter upon the open flame, its edges instantly turning black and falling apart.
Tomorrow is Saturday, you closed your book. Potions is on Monday, you had two days to review the material, no point in reading if you won’t learn anything. Putting your book back in your dorm, you head out into the halls of Hogwarts, hoping to find a distraction from all the thoughts that roamed your head.
The snow had been finding its way inside the cloisters of the halls. While walking, you looked at the floor, bumping into many people on the way, mumbling apologies whenever you could. All of a sudden, you full on ran into someone that had books in their hands, their books falling to the floor. The thud of them dropping snapped you out of your trance, and you looked to see it was Solomon that you had bumped into.
“I am so sorry, Solomon!” you said as you bent down to pick up the books along with him.
“Don’t worry about it, y/n, but I have to ask, most people look ahead when they’re walking, so why are you looking at the floor?” he asked, his Gryffindor scarf covering his mouth.
“Something has just been bothering me all day, I can’t shake it out of my head.” you said, handing back two of his books.
“Care to talk about it? I have nothing better to do, and you look like you might run into someone not as forgiving as me if you continue walking like this.”
“Yeah, I think I do need to talk about it.”
You told Solomon about the letter and why you felt the way you did, and the fact that your mom didn’t even bother writing to you either.
“Your mother hates magic, correct?” he asks.
“Seems like it.”
“Perhaps, there’s a part of you that is fearing that this child will be used to replace you in some way. Your younger brother hasn’t shown any signs of magic, which results in him being spoiled by your mother, while you’re left to the side.”
“I never thought of it that way. Some part of it is true, I guess. I did get a little jealous when my mom started paying more attention to my brother after I started doing magic, but I never thought she’d try to replace me.”
“Remember that it is in your head, y/n. You are the type of person that can never be replaced, by anyone. I can see that you will be a wonderful big sister to your unborn sibling. If that child should be magical, you’ll be a wonderful magical tutor as well. Even if your mother doesn’t show you the same love she once did, you still have others that will.” Solomon stepped away from the spot the both of you were sitting at and pulled out his wand. He waved it around and conjured a small cup and filled it with what smelled like hot chocolate.
“Here, to cheer you up. Try not to run into any more people, things will get better, bye now.” He picked up his books and started walking to the other side of the hall, leaving you with the cup of hot chocolate in your hand. Taking small sips of the drink, you made your way across Hogwarts, feeling a little better now, the chocolate was definitely helping.
That Monday, madam Crafince had informed you that Naomi had awoken in the hospital wing. After classes, you accompanied Azalea and Melissa to the Hospital wing, eagerly waiting to see Naomi, who had been in a coma for almost a week. When you finally gained sight of her, she looked frail and weak. Her once shining blond hair was now a pale yellow color, and her blue eyes seemed gray.
“Hey, how’ve you been?” Melissa asked as she put her hand upon Naomi’s.
“I’ve been better…what happened?” Naomi asked, her voice very coarse.
“Grindelwald's acolytes attacked the school. From what we heard, the first attack was in the tower you were in, you were unconscious for about a week.” you explained to her.
“Did you guys make it out okay?” Naomi asked.
“Me and Azalea made it out with a few injuries, but y/n had a bunch of debris fall on top of her, luckily Tom Riddle was with her, he helped her out.” Azalea told her.
“The Tom Riddle?” Naomi sounded a bit shocked when she heard what Azalea had said.
“He’s not the worst person to be stuck with, I could have been with someone who was much worse.” you shrugged your shoulders and laughed.
The four of you talked as much as you could, but were informed by Crafince that Naomi needed lots of rest before she could be able to take in deeper conversations. The three of you left the Hospital wing, Azalea had unfinished homework and Melissa had to help professor Utonell with her plants again. You on the other hand went to the courtyard. It was still snowing, but it fell very slowly and lightly, good enough for you to walk around.
While looking at the snow falling, a small flower blossom fell between your feet. You picked it up with your gloved hand, wondering where it could have come from.
“I messed that up.” you heard someone groan behind you.
Turning around, you were greeted by a flushed looking Archer.
“Mess what up?” you ask him.
“I meant to conjure you a small rose but all that came out was a small blossom, saw you looking down for the past few days, thought it would help.” he shrugged his shoulders and laughed, so did you.
“It wasn’t a total mess up, I enjoyed the thought.” you place the blossom gently into your winter coat, walking over to Archer.
“What brings you to this part of the school?’ you ask him.
“I have a few minutes before quidditch practice, so why not talk to my favorite person?”
“I’m your favorite person?” you ask him, heart on your chest in an act of surprise.
“No, I thought Marcus Diggory would be here, but he’s not.”
You punched him in the chest, and he started to laugh again, which made you cheer up.
“You have quidditch practice even when it’s snowing?” you ask him.
“Even in the toughest conditions, the captain isn’t going to go easy on us just because the weather is changing.”
“Brutal, makes me want to rethink joining next year.”
“C'mon, I'll have fun knocking you around during our matches together, it’ll be great.”
“Yeah for you, I don’t want to fall off my broom ever again.” you began to laugh again.
“Okay, fine, but it will still be a load of fun, but I have to go before the captain sees that I’m missing, catch you later, y/n.” he waves you goodbye, and you watch him run back to the hallway, a small smile plastered onto your face.
“If you continue to stare any longer, you might burn a hole in the back of his neck.”
The sudden voice behind you makes you jump back.
“Who- what- ugh, don’t do that, Riddle!” you say as you whack him with your scarf.
“Okay, then don’t abuse me with your scarf.” he says as he seizes the fabric between his hands.
“Give it back, my neck is cold,” you mumble, quickly wrapping your neck again as he lets it go, “And I was not staring, I was simply…” you couldn’t think of a word, so you stayed quiet.
“Admiring his devilishly good looks as that heart of yours beats faster every time he says your name?” Tom adds, making your cheeks heat up.
“Why are you here anyway, usually you’re tucked away behind some book.” you say, fixing your outfit.
Tom pulls out a book behind his back, and you roll your eyes.
“I heard that your blonde friend has woken up.” he says, putting his hands behind his back.
“Yeah she did, I visited her not too long ago, she doesn’t look the best, barely remembers what happened.” you sat down near a small well and Tom continued to stand.
“The hospital matron will deal with her, and if she doesn’t get better, she may be transferred to St Mungos.”
“Speaking of, why were you staring at the window during the attack?”
“Curiosity. I was looking at the destruction the acolytes were causing, how simple it was for them to apparate here and destroy the castle as if it were nothing, how easy it was for them to corner students, knock them unconscious and stir worry into their hearts.”
“God, you’re so morbid Riddle, is there anything peaceful in that brain of yours?” you ask him.
“I could ask you the same thing, you were bumping into so many people on Friday I thought you’d bump into a wall and be knocked unconscious like your friend.”
You went quiet, Tom took notice of this and stepped closer.
“Did I hit a nerve?” he asked, a little smug.
“None of your business.” you crossed your arms and looked away from him.
“I didn’t get the chance to tell you, but you did well during the duel with Selwyn, a shame that I didn’t get to fight you and had to waste time with Malfoy.” he rolled his eyes at the last statement, which made you breathe out a small laugh.
“If I recall, we did a duel, and I knocked you onto your ass. Maybe we will duel seriously in the distant future, but I won't go easy on you.”
“Neither will I.”
“Speaking of, why didn’t you talk to the snake that was conjured in the duel, you could have easily stopped it.”
Tom sighed, “I don’t like showing that ability in the public, so please, never speak of it.”
You shrugged your shoulders and sat up from the well, “I’m going to go back inside for some hot chocolate, care to join me?” you extended your hand to him, which he looked at with a raised brow.
“No, thank you, I’ll be heading back to the Slytherin common room.”
“You’re trading in hot cocoa with me for the Slytherin common room? C'mon, Riddle, raise your standards.” you take back your hand and follow Tom as he walks back to the hallway. You were kind enough to say bye, but he didn’t return the gesture.
