How many books did you read this year? not sure, I didn't keep track until like october unfortunately. But 70+

Did you reread anything? What? I reread Lirael/Sabriel/Abhorsen by Garth Nix which I've read like 4 or 5 times. my favorite YA fantasy of all time

Did you discover any new authors that you love this year? Yes I read two books by Ruth Ozeki and loved both. I also got more into David Graeber, I read Debt and Bullshit Jobs at the end of last year and really enjoyed The Dawn of Everything this year.

What genre did you read the most of? Hard to say since again I didn't keep track of everything and I haven't used goodreads in a couple years lol bc its owned by amazon but I would say leftist/leftist leaning nonfiction, contemporary fiction written by women and queer people, and fantasy/magical realism.

Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to? So much lol. But the oldest books on my tbr are No Touching by Ketty Rouf, Nature is a Human Right by Ellen Miles, Overtime by Will Stronge and Kyle Lewis, Ecrits by Jacques Lacan, and New Animal by Ella Baxter

Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones? Did not have any but I read way more than I have since I was in high school so I'm so happy about that!

Did you get into any new genres? I hadn't read a lot of magical realism (non heavy fantasy) that I'd really enjoyed before.

What was your favorite new release of the year? The World Cannot Give by Tara Isabella Burton, Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez, or All This Could Be Different by Sarah Thankam Matthews

What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read? Geek Love by Katherine Dunn I think was the oldest book I read this year that I really liked. Or People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn is also a strong contender. Or Illness as Metaphor and AIDS and Its Metaphors by Susan Sontag. Or Love by Toni Morrison.

Any books that disappointed you? While I really enjoyed Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin and I would recommend it, I do think it has been somewhat overhyped and failed to live up to my expectations in some respects. I also did not enjoy Venco by Cherie Dimaline as much as I wanted to, given the premise is like a perfect intersection of things I enjoy in books. Try Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson instead, or the Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix for similar vibes but way more enjoyable.

What were your least favorite books of the year? I usually DNF books I don't like so hard to say for sure. Milk Fed by Melissa Broder was really not my vibe. I wasn't really surprised because I couldn't stand her previous book about the mermaid(?) but I did like her So Sad Today stuff. I also liked Norwegian Wood exactly as much as I was expecting to, which was, not very much. I've also decided I don't really enjoy reading short story collections.

What books do you want to finish before the year is over? I am currently reading My Tiny Life by Julian Dibbel and Fossil Capital by Andreas Malm, both of which are very dense and I have kind of been sloughing through. Both are super interesting though so hopefully I finish them by the end of the month instead of just reading fiction which I read way faster.

Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them? I just looked at the lists for all the awards listed here and literally the only book I read was Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldor which was nominated for best novel at this years Hugo awards LOL. I added some other ones to my tbr though. I thought it was fun but nothing incredible! I'll read the sequels (my standard of quality for fantasy is a lot lower than other genres lol)

What is the most over-hyped book you read this year? Def Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin even though it WAS really good!

Did any books surprise you with how good they were? Yes I was not expecting to enjoy Pageboy by Elliot Page as much as I did! Really well done celebrity memoir. Also I was worried that Extremely Online by Taylor Lorenz would just be about stuff I already knew but it was actually super interesting and went down a bunch of rabbit holes I didn't know a ton about and had great analysis.

How many books did you buy? Way too many. But mostly very cheap on Thriftbooks!

Did you use your library? Oh boy, you wouldn't even believe.

What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations? I was very excited for README.txt by Chelsea Manning and it did not disappoint (yes it came out in 2022 but I took a second to get to it okay). I also had The Free People's Village by Sim Kern on hold way before it came out and I really enjoyed it!

Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama? no lmao. i watched a couple youtube videos about tiktok book drama and it was the stupidest shit ive ever seen

What’s the longest book you read? Probably Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez. I did listen to it on audio which is the only way I am really able to get through books that long. The longest book I read with my eyes was probably The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki.

What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book? This is a silly question bc I read some pretty short books. Several books under two hundred pages only took me a few hours.

hey i was just watching your video about that human pet book and i really enjoyed hearing your thoughts!! i just wanted to ask though what rain dogs is? hopefully this isnt a huge can of worms lol just you mentioned it near the end of your video in a way that makes me think i should already have heard of it but i definitely havent....

Rainedog is a can of worms and it isn't, but I decided not to mention it in video because I'd have to spend a while teaching everyone about it for a small remark that it has some odd parallels to Perfected.

Raine dog was a webcomic by Dana Simpson. It was made basically off the odd idea that in cartoons and comics often there's a pet dog who may even speak to humans, but is still a dog- and how that creates a strange world where sentient pets are both fully people but lesser citizens owned by others. It's a pretty funky idea and you can do a lot of things with it to explore that concept. It's unsettling and weird. You can see why Perfected reminded me of it, as pets in Raine dog are rather like Pets in Perfected- seemingly fully sentient but kept as light amusement for families and never considered people.

Raine Dog was not misguided, I think, or straight up bad, but just didn't deliver it too well. It got infamous for an out of context bit- usually just the kissing page, or even half the kissing page:

I... do think this both is a pretty bad part and I get why it's there and it's a good idea. But out of context it definitely looks mad. Again, this is rather more using the idea of cartoon pets being lower class citizens who are still sentient, human level, as an exploration of that theme and later (badly) civil rights. It's meant to be shocking on purpose, but Raine Dog in universe isn't a dog-dog, she's basically a slave!

Raine Dog at points feels quite rushed and I'm not sure a comic is actually the best place for this kind of story. But while I think the comic isn't really good and is a failure, it's not THAT bad.

Definitely though in Perfected the concern Ella will get neutered, and the fact too her being into Penn, who is the son of her owner, would be a reason she might be neutered.... is very similar to this bit, and why the parallel stood out.

Olivia sucked in a breath. “Then be with me.”

Liam opened his eyes and turned to his oldest friend. “Liv …”

“What?” Her heart was beating a thousand miles a minute as she arched her brow.

“Liv, y-you know I don’t-”

Her hand shot out so fast and smacked him in the back of the head; Liam didn’t even flinch. “Stop being a dumbass.”

“Olivia!” Liam’s hand went to the back of his head and rubbed the sting away. “What the fuck?”

Liv blurted out what she really wanted, more than anything in this entire world. But it was stupid and fleeting. She knows Liam loves Ella Brooks.

The more Olivia thought about it, the more she knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that this man was meant to be with the woman of his dreams. Not me. “Drake worked his ass off to protect her,” Olivia said in a calm voice, even though everything inside her wasn’t calm. It was stormy, dark, and bleeding, but she pushed on. “He found Tariq that night trying to put his hands on Ella,” she watched Liam’s jaw clench. “He was the one that fought him and told him to leave.” Liam’s nostrils flared, his eyes clouded in anger. “And he didn’t tell you how he felt because you had enough shit going on being engaged to that two-bit blonde devil, Liam. Should he have told you? Yes,” Liv nodded and turned to stare at the setting sun, orange and yellow hues now a sliver in the now almost dark sky. “But when would have been an ... appropriate time to tell your best friend that you’re in love with the same woman?” Olivia slid her eyes back to Liam’s and held his gaze. “Do you think it’s easy for us?”

Regret flashed in Liam’s sky blue eyes as he stared into emerald ones. He slipped his hands inside his pockets and let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. “I …” his voice hitched and he swallowed quickly. “I���m sorry, Olivia,” Liam shook his head and turned to look at the doors to the ballroom. He could see Ella trying to peek through the windows to get a glimpse of him. “I may have … overreacted.”

“Understatement of the year,” Liv arched her brow at him with her signature smirk.

“Thank you.”

Olivia tilted her head slightly. “For?”

“Knocking some sense into me … quite literally,” he chuckled and then winced as he put his hand where she smacked him.

“Anytime,” she smiled, although it didn’t reach her eyes.

An awkward silence settled between them for a moment before Liam cleared his throat. “Did you mean what you said? Or was that something you did to get my attention?”

Olivia walked towards the balcony and leaned her elbows onto it. “Maybe a little of both.”

“I’m sor-”

“Liam,” she turned around quickly to face him. “Don’t.”

He opened his mouth to respond and Olivia held up a hand. “I don’t want or need your apologies, Liam. We’ve been friends since we were children and you were always straightforward about your … lack of romantic feelings.” She picked an imaginary piece of lint on her fire-red sequined gown. “You were honest from the beginning. I don’t need you to feel sorry for me, I’m a big girl.”

Liam knew when it was pointless to argue so he just smiled. “Would you mind bringing Drake out here please?”

She nodded and hastily made her way inside the ballroom. Ella, Drake, and Maxwell immediately ran towards the fiery redhead.

“Liv!” “Is everything okay now?” “Where is he?”

“Drake,” she gestured towards the balcony doors. “You’re up.”

Ella’s bottom lip quivered and she bit down on it to keep from crying. No one noticed but Olivia.

“Maxwell, please grab Ella something to drink. A fruity one” - Olivia waved her hand in the air - “with some glitter or some shit.”

Max grinned and ran towards the bar, Drake ran a shaky hand through his already tousled brown hair and turned to make his way outside. When they were alone, Olivia grabbed Ella’s elbow and gently pulled her to the corner of the ballroom.

Ella began to babble. “Liv, I need to go, I have to check on-”

“You’ll stay put, Ella, this is a conversation for those two and those two alone.”

The queen-to-be nodded in agreement but said nothing.

“I, uh …” Olivia pulled her lips between her teeth as she glanced down at the floor then back up at her friend. “Ella, I need to apologize to you.”

Ella’s eyes widened in surprise.

Liv waved her hand up in a circle. “Spare me the looks, please.” Ella and Olivia had grown close over the engagement tour, much to Liv’s dismay. She used to look at Ella as an American dolt that had no clue about Cordonian traditions, who stole her childhood love out from under her. But over months of being on the tour, they had to work together to figure out the plot against them and … Ella didn’t take any of her shit, and she respected that. “I want to apologize because-”

“You’re in love with Liam?” Ella smirked.

“In short, yes,” she nodded.

“You’ve known him almost his entire life, Liv,” her brows rounded as she took in her friend. “I don’t blame you for loving him.”

It was Olivia’s turn to look surprised.

“He’s the kindest person” - Ella let out a sigh - “anyone has probably ever met and he loves hard. Plus, he’s really easy on the eyes so I don’t blame you at all.”

Liv chuckled. “I’m working on it, it’s just really difficult to … see you two together.”

“I understand,” Ella pulled the Scarlet Duchess into her arms for a hug despite her protests. “Shut up, Liv, friends hug.”

Olivia squeezed Ella into a hug and then pulled away with a sigh. “I think maybe … after the wedding … I just take a small break.”

“I understand,” she let out her own sigh and swallowed the lump that was in her throat. “How pissed …” Ella looked up at the ceiling and waved her hand over her eyes to keep the tears from falling. “Was he really mad about-”

“He was pissed, yes,” Liv knew what she was asking. “Did you kiss him?” Her arms were folded across her chest.

“Who? Drake? No! Of course not!”

“Did you sleep with him?”

“Olivia!”

“Did you give him any reason to pursue you, Ella?”

“No,” Ella shook her head vehemently. “I told him that I love Liam. I only see Drake as a friend; I love him like a brother.”

“Then this isn’t on you and you let those two hash it out between them.”

On the balcony

Drake opened the door and shut it quietly. He had no idea what to expect from this conversation with Liam. This was about his fiancé for crying out loud. He was in love with Liam’s fiancé and if the roles were reversed, he’d be fucking pissed off too.

“Drake.”

He looked up to see Liam standing against the balcony, hands in his pockets, legs crossed at the ankles.

“Hey, Li.”

Liam pushed himself off of the cool cement and made his way towards him. “Tell me when this all started.”

His voice was calm as he spoke and it threw Drake off. He was expecting a coldness, anger, anything but this. But he went along with it and cleared his throat before speaking, choosing his words wisely. “Well, uh … I’d probably say the very beginning, on the plane back home from New York; there was a moment in Lythikos” - Drake shook his head - “But I didn’t realize anything until Applewood.”

Liam clenched his jaw and his hands fisted in his pockets. “What happened?” He croaked out and then he cleared his own throat. “What went on in Lythikos? Did you … did you two-” He couldn’t even say it out loud as he let out a breath, his chest burning. He and Ella were together intimately for the first time that night in Lythikos during the social season and if something happened with her and Drake as well …

“No!” Drake blurted out, his head shaking so fast that he got dizzy. “We’ve never … never, ever, Liam.”

Relief flooded Liam’s handsome face.

“You … you really thought I’d do that to you? That she would do that to you?” Drake stuck his thumb out and gestured towards the ballroom at Ella.

“No,” Liam answered honestly. “But my mind was going a thousand miles-a-minute and for a little bit I had no clue what to think.”

Drake's eyebrows rounded. “Nothing happened with us … romantically. On our way back from New York, I was telling her she didn’t belong, that people would be shitty to her. She put me in my place. Ever since then, she’s made me eat my words. In Lythikos,” Drake rubbed a hand over his face, feeling the roughness of his stubble from the day. “Olivia was giving me shit about Savannah leaving …”

Liam gave his friend a concerned look, knowing.

“Ella jumped in and told her to shut the fuck up before she stabs her with the fork she’s currently eating with” - despite his dissipating anger, Liam started to chuckle, interrupting the story. Drake looked up, surprised, then started to laugh with him - “El goes right back to … eating her fruit tart … looking at Olivia … with that fucking smirk.” The two continued to laugh, Liam knowing exactly the smirk Drake was talking about and also knowing the Scarlet Duchess and how she probably had no comeback.

When the two had calmed down, Liam wiping some moisture from his eyes from cracking up, Drake continued with his recount of the day in Lythikos. “Something inside me just … I don’t know how to say it,” he frantically thought of the words to describe what he was feeling. “No one besides you and Savannah had ever stood up for me before and it made me feel …”

“Like she cared about you,” Liam finished for him.

Drake nodded. “Then we watched the meteor shower together outside and I told her about Sav.”

Liam chewed on the inside of his cheek. “And Applewood?”

“After seeing the fear in her eyes that night, Tariq’s fucking hands on her, I just … felt this rage” - both men sucked in an angered breath - “A rage I’d never felt before over a woman and I realized then that I’d do anything and everything to protect her. To make sure no harm came to her, and …”

“You realized you were in love with her,” Liam said quietly, finally understanding.

Drake stared at Liam’s shoes for a moment then looked up to meet his best friend’s gaze. “Yes.”

“I …” Liam paused for a moment, making sure these were the words he wanted to say. “I understand why you fell for her.”

Drake looked at him, surprised.

“She’s fierce, intelligent, loving, beautiful” - Liam’s eyes slid towards the balcony doors and saw his fiancé sneaking glances at him from inside - “and loyal. I want to apologize and to thank you.”

Drake’s face went from surprise and contorted to confusion. “I’m sorry, you what?”

Liam nodded. “I overreacted and quickly jumped to conclusions without giving it careful thought. I just ... wish you would have told me when you realized you loved her, Drake, it took me by surprise, that’s all. And thank you for always being there to protect her,” Liam sucked in a breath. “I wasn’t there,” he whispered. “I wasn’t there in Applewood and what if …”

“Don’t you dare blame yourself, Liam!” Drake’s voice was raised. “We can’t think like that, if nobody was there to step in …” he closed his eyes to contain his temper. “We can’t go there. One of us was, and that’s all that matters.”

Liam nodded.

“And you’re right, I should have told you the minute I realized my feelings,” he agreed as he ran a hand through his dark hair. “I’m so sorry for that. I told her about my feelings in Applewood when she helped me with my bruises. She told me that she’s here for you and that she’s in love with you” - Drake closed his eyes briefly then opened them to look at his brother - “and that I should tell you how I felt.”

Neither man said anything for a moment, the only sounds that filled the night air were crickets, the leaves rustling in the wind, and an owl in the distance.

“You’re a lucky man, Liam,” Drake whispered.

“I know.” The young king took a shaky breath in and let it out slowly. He knew he was, and he knew how difficult it must be for his best friend to watch the woman he was in love with being engaged to someone else.

“Are we going to be okay?”

Liam looked over at his best friend of a decade, his brother, and smiled. “Yes, but” - his smile faded - “I don’t want this to be difficult for you. You have to watch Ella and me-”

“I’m fine, Li.”

“Don’t do that,” Liam said sternly. “I know it would kill me inside if the roles were reversed.”

“Of course it’s painful but it’s you and Brooks,” Drake said as he pinched the bridge of his nose with his finger and thumb before looking back at Liam. “Who else is going to watch your backs? Bastien? Beaumont?!” He flung his arm back towards the ballroom in disgust.

Liam chuckled. “Just know that I would understand if you needed … time.”

“I appreciate that, but I don’t want or need time. My place is here, watching over you two. Making sure Beaumont doesn’t accidentally light the palace on fire or some shit.”

The two men hugged and pulled away, patting each other’s shoulders.

“I wanted to speak with Ella-”

“Yeah,” Drake sighed. “She’s been trying to be sneaky, walking past the door almost the whole time we’ve been out here.”

Liam chuckled. “Alright my friend, let’s head back in.”

The two slipped back into the ballroom and the lights went out.

“What in the-” Drake growled.

Gunshots sounded in the air. “Everyone shut the fuck up and get on the ground!”

“Ella!” Liam’s voice boomed over the screams. “ELLA!”

“We’ll find her, Li,” Drake’s eyes had adjusted to the darkness but could only make out shadows of people running frantically in every direction.

The lights turned back on and both men turned to see Ella with one of the assassins, his arm around her waist, Glock pressed to her temple. “Ahh, King Liam. Perfect setting don’t you think? “Let her go and take me instead,” he commanded.

“Liam!” Ella choked out, her cheeks streaked with tears, her eyes pleading. “Don’t!”

“Where are you going, sweetie?” Assassin number one cooed as she struggled against his grasp. He raised his firearm and hit her over the head with it.

“Ella!” Drake and Liam yelled out as she lay limp in the man’s arms.

“Take her!” He hissed at assassin number two. Ella was removed from the ballroom as Liam and Drake watched helplessly. “Stay!” The man commanded as he pointed his gun at the two of them. “You’ll hear my demands in a few hours.”

The assassin leader turned and left with a loud cackle. The other assassins with their rifles pointed at Drake and Liam backed out of the room one by one until the deafening silence was almost too much to bear.

so here’s one that’s been knocking around my head since finals week began:

the Writing 3 Playlist on Spotify 

I think this bad boy is a hint at the game’s timeline

maybe not 100% explanatory, but I think we can guess certain parts of the game through this

and i just wanna tell y’all now, almost all of this is speculation, as honestly im 90% sure the playlist was created bc it had borderlands-y songs in it (although the last few have me scratching my head)

lemme explain why im writing this, though I’m very thirsty for lore

tl;dr: game goes like this: lilith powers stolen. go to promethea, go to jungle, find brick mordy and tina, get into a fight, lose fight, go find other VHs, get into another fight, Krieg shows up to save Maya, maya die. (oh no she ded), the twins have their we are GODS moment, the VHs get summoned to the Eridian homeworld, there’s a huge ass final battle, someone attempts to create an end-of-the-world scenario

so the playlist itself was created to help one of the authors of the game get into their borderlands jam 

it starts with a Cage the Elephant song, “Trouble”, the band of which we all know wrote the first song used in BL1. Not really much else to say here, but we do know the opening cutscene of the game involves our current team of Vault Hunters being attacked by the Children of the Vault. this is, of course, not indicative of any songs used in bl3, but we can assume it captures the general feeling of the game.

Second song: “Fire” by Barns Courtney (holy shit I love this guy so fucking much!! if you’ve never listened to his music, PLEASE do so! I really recommend “Rather Die”- I am in the process of making a bl3 animatic to it actually lmao). 

So anyway, I’m just sayin’, the lyrics of this song...

“Oh, a thousand faces staring at me Thousand times I've fallen Thousand voices dead at my feet Now I'm gone... And my mother told me son let it be Sold my soul to the calling Sold my soul to a sweet melody Now I'm gone... Oh gimme that fire ...”

Honestly, I would not be surprised if this song was about Lilith’s loss of her powers. I mean, she used to call herself the Firehawk because she burned the shit outta bandits. c’monnn.

The man, the myth, the legend himself even says that "[The song is] quite defiant as well, like this cannot be how it ends, it cannot be my situation."

“Majesty” by Apashe and Wasiu

holy fuck i love this song so much. and its so very obviously about the Calypso Twins- at the very least its Tyreen.

I mean come on if its not when we meet the twins for the first time after they steal lily’s powers, then its definitely when they do something absolutely badass and really show us why they’re revered as gods. Possibly related to the Holy Broadcasting Center?

“The Way I Do” by Bishopp Briggs 

this one honestly had got me stumped as to its purpose, i lowkey kinda think its getting Sanctuary 3 up and running (and possibly meeting Maya for the first time- still not sure about that). I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a whole thing for Scooter and this song fits pretty well. I imagine we also meet Vaughn and the Children at some point, so maybe here?

“Greeting the Menace” by Zack Hemsey 

yeah i uhhhh dunno. This sounds like a song about a dude getting tortured which scares me a bit lmao. 

I thought maybe this song and the next 2 could be VH-based songs, as the next 2 have no lyrics whatsoever and the third is called “Best Friends”, but who knows... If this is the case I could make the argument this is about Zane or Moze, leaning towards Zane cuz he’s pretty covered up, plus I think “Best Friends” would be more Moze’s style lmao

I could also see this being a song about Troy... could explain all the ‘body mods’ and the missing arm.

“ProtoVision” by Kavinsky

If we’re going with the idea that these next few songs are about the Vault Hunters, then I imagine this would be Fl4k’s. It’s got that synth and some guitar which I think fits perfectly with his robo-hobo aesthetic lol

Other than that, I truly have no idea what part of the story this song could reference since there aren’t any lyrics. Maybe Promethea’s city? I could kinda see it, it sounds pretty high-tech

Similarly, “diatribe.” by Oliver Michael

the beginning gives me a whole meditation vibe which I kinda associate with Amara and her phasecast skill which “sends out an astral projection” of herself. 

Then again, this could be the outskirts of the Promethean city... I could see myself wandering around the huge ass foliage and discovering an abandoned research base to this song idk

“Best Friends” by grandson

aaahh i love grandson. I think this could be a Moze-based song. I just get that vibe from her leather jacket... anyway

I also could totally see this as discovering Brick, Mordecai, and Tina in the research base (if that truly is where they are). Cause we saw them in the trailer hanging out there. 

tbh the lyrics themselves kinda remind me of pre-Tales Rhys and Fiona and all their friends

I kinda associate this one with Axton since his whole History with DAHL, but who knows! It could be Gaige, too. or Maya since she looks like she’s being incredibly gay criminal on the Maliwan Monastery planet. Maybe both Axton and Gaige? I would love that

“The Devil You Know” by X Ambassadors 

Could also be Axton! I lowkey think its Salvador or Timothy Lawrence. The reason I think its Timothy is cuz the whole song gives me huge Handsome Jack vibes, but it could also be Sal cuz I totally imagine him becoming a bounty hunter to fund his gun addiction lmao

“00000 Million” by Ella Vos

this one also gives off Maya vibes imo. I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is about her and the introduction of Little Blue. I could also see Athena and Janey here, just living their lives out in a cottage somewhere. awww

Ahh a love song [pukes] Hopefully this one is about Athena and Janey, cuz there is a depressing lack of both of them in all the trailers we’ve seen! It sounds lowkey sad, though. I hope nothing happened to them D:

this one gives me very big Fiona and Sasha vibes. 

Of course, there’s also the fact that the song is about a dad, and we still don’t know who the heck “the Father” is on all those Calypsos posters. We also dunno who in the heck “Mother” is, either. Sounds like Father left the cult, though, oof, and Mother stuck around. Wonder what that’s all about, maybe he felt like the twins were working fast/efficient enough and left to do things himself? Very lost on this idea tbh. the song seems very out of place, but it has to connect to something, yknow?

“Dies Irae” by Apashe and Black Prez

For those of you who don’t speak fluent Latin (the fuck guys?? lmao jk), the title means "Day of Wrath". Nice, nice, nice.

at the very least this is definitely a fight scene here. Probably with the twins again (hopefully). Maybe they found some way to imbue the cultists with fucked up powers and are sending them against the VHs as giant demon things and as we fight through the temple (apparently with some Guardians) we realize the final one is Troy and/or Tyreen?

I like to imagine this is where Maya gets her powers stolen, if only because the next few songs... I think she’s around because she’s now the only person with Siren powers on the side of the Crimson Raiders, so they might need her help with the Vault in some way

“RAMPAGE” by GRAVEDGR

y’all wonder why I seemingly forgot about Krieg in the above songs? Well, this is why. 

The only lyric for this entire song is “Bitch, I'm on a rampage- mask on my damn face”

I mean come on, Krieg with his psycho mask on, the fact his action skill is literally called “Buzz Axe Rampage”, the fact he loves Maya as shown in his introductory trailer... it’d be so perfect. And I bet badass psycho Krieg would be the only thing able to beat back whatever’s attacking at the moment. I’m just imagining him smashing down a wall and going apeshit

“Black Out Days” by Phantograms

Another song I think is about Krieg and Maya. I don’t think Maya does too hot in this game, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if she gets the Roland treatment if you know what I’m saying. I wonder if this causes Krieg to devolve back into insanity cause the whole song seems to focus around that. I hope not D:

To be honest I could also see it being that Maya gets her powers stolen and thoughtlock-ed by the twins to fight on their side (as she’s seen fighting with the big demon elemental things), and maybe we have to kill her or hurt her in some way to get her to stop attacking us. God I hope not.

Let’s hope this is someway about the twins and definitely not about our favorite Siren and/or Psycho

oof i think somebody dies... If its not Maya, my best guess is Krieg or Lilith. Maybe Mordecai or Brick? Oh I hope not, I love both of them way too much for it to be healthy. But, hey, at least Tina learned some coping mechanisms :(

“Intro” and “Apocalypse Please” by Muse

merged these into 1 because Intro is like 15 seconds long and is literally the introduction to Apocalypse Please. 

Definitely reaching the end of the game here...

I think the twins (or whoever may have become the main villain- perhaps the Eridians?) have claimed victory/gotten the ultimate power in one way or another, and/or this is the Crimson Raiders getting themselves ready for a final stand-off with the big bad evil guy. 

I would really love if there’s a scene right at the end of this where the Twins have their huge “BOW TO ME” moment and then they just get COMPLETELY obliterated by a new villain. Just absolutely decimated.

New villain, like if they opened a Vault and whatever was being imprisoned there just wipes the floor with them (something like the Destroyer, if not the Destroyer itself), or fuck shit maybe even Tannis? or the Eridians looking for help in the war. or the Eridians bringing war. Who knows!

Again, could just be the Twins having gotten their hands on the end-game material, like realizing they can turn troy into big demon fuck (no i am not letting this one go) and we are kinda fucked now.

“Free Animal” by Foreign Air

I... have no idea lol

maybe Krieg getting rescued, maybe (one of?) the twins getting recruited by the Raiders for the final fight? It could fit into the ‘Beast’ imagery. Fuck, maybe even rescuing/finding Typhon or something? Idk, im kinda in the party that Typhon is going to be coming back some way or another lol, I’d love to meet the guy

“Dreams” by ZHU and Nero

This definitely sounds like a new BBEG has just been introduced or the big bads just entered the final phase of their plan, like the Crimson Raiders just learned about something life-changing and this is their “oh shit” moment

i wanna believe that the Eridians or another alien race (like the Seraphs!) are going to come in at the ‘end’ of the game and the Watcher is gonna be like “bitch did you really think I thought these dumbass ECHOnet streamers were the epitome of War??” I imagine we’d be on the side of the Eridians here, since y’know, the Watcher came to us for help.

Of course, the twins could still be the BBEG and have gotten their hands on that universe-destroying power that was described on the website (”to recover a map to ancient Vaults and prevent a universe-destroying power from falling into the wrong hands”) so maybe the Eridians called us in in order to meet and get help against the COV?

“Beyond the Fray” by Cassandra Violet

personally i think this one is about the Eridian homeworld

ah yes, another reason I think the end of the game involves the Eridian homeworld in some way. Have you heard this?? huge “we just stumbled upon a long-lost-alien-planet” vibe. I love it. Maybe even just a shot of Sanctuary III slowly gliding over the giant planet, having just exited phasewalk. God yes

“Battle Royale” by Apashe

another reason i think the final fight is some giant battlefield/wave fight instead of just against 1 or 2 enemies. not to mention the fact that the VH skills we’ve seen so far are crowd control based instead of raid boss focused. 

Its likely the VHs against the Cult of the Vault, but if we defeat the Twins halfway through the game, then the Cult will dissolve on its own. Either way, I really really really really really want a huge fight against an army. I don’t care if its against the Children of the Vault, the Eridians/some Guardians, or if its against the Seraphs or a new set of aliens we’re gonna get (maybe whatever the Destroyer was/is?). idk idc i just want a huge battle. I imagine we’re on the Eridians’ side, as I said above, but who knows, maybe the Watcher went rogue. 

oh and also, the next song:

oh hey, I recognize this song, it’s giving me major BL2 flashbacks lmao

Ella jumped.

At the other end of her pew, Lucifer held his hands up placatingly.

“It’s only me.”

Right, she chuckled nervously. It’s only the Devil. In church.

No big deal.

He smirked, though the mirth was short-lived when he extended his palm—

“You left this at the precinct.”

—and revealed her necklace.

“I thought it prudent to return it to its rightful owner.”

“Rightful owner, huh?” she glimpsed it, though made no further move at retrieving it. “Not really sure if that’s me, buddy.”

“Odd,” he sighed as he sat. “I thought for sure you were Ella Lopez,” his gaze narrowed playfully at her. “Are you not?”

She cracked a smile, despite the leaden weight in her gut, then settled onto the space beside him. He stretched his arm along the top of the bench behind her, her chain dangling from his fingertips.

For a while it seemed he was content to sit in silence with her, which was new for them both, true—but she refused to break it first.

“I should think,” he conceded, and she would have cheered if his chosen point of conversation hadn’t been the very topic she wanted to avoid, “that this confirmation of your beliefs would have you singing His praises.”

She sighed.

He nudged her shoulder. “Lighten up,” he cajoled.

Tears sprung to her eyes instead.

“How can I? After everything He’s done to you?”

He startled.

“To me?”

She groaned. “You’re not seriously expecting me to worship Him after what He put you through?”

“Rest assured, Ms. Lopez,” he frowned, uncomprehending of her sympathy. “You needn’t concern yourself with me,” he waved flippantly, but she detected the strain in the movement anyway.

“It was a long time ago.”

“That’s not the point,” she cried. “I told you. The day we first met, I said the Devil got a bad rap and I meant that. You Fell, Lucifer!”

He flinched—she had just made the Devil flinch.

She blanched.

“I’m sorry,” she softened. “But how can I trust a Father who would watch his own son burn at His behest—then trust He’ll protect me in return?”

“If it helps,” he teased. “He likes your lot much better than He does me.”

She shook her head, dislodging the tears that had been lining her eyes.

“How can you joke about this?”

“How can I not?” he returned, clearly uncomfortable with her emotional display yet achingly gentle when he brushed a couple tears away.

“It was a long time ago,” he repeated. “And all that? That’s between me and my old man, just as I would never presume to encroach upon your faith in His grace.”

“I should hate Him.”

Even as she said it, her heart croaked in protest.

“Do you?”

Her answer was in the burdensome quiet.

“Ella,” he soothed. “I never have—nor will I ever—begrudge you your relationship with Him. Tell me, have you ever felt as if He had forsaken you?”

“No,” she answered honestly, though she felt pulled in opposite directions.

“Then please, darling, don’t forsake Him—not for someone as inconsequential as me.”

He offered her necklace again, and she wanted to attribute the serenity that overwhelmed her to its restoration—but she knew better.

She was at peace, and she had Lucifer to thank for it.

“You aren’t, you know,” she said, succumbing to her urge to hug him. He sank into the embrace.

“Not what?”

“Inconsequential.”

“Oh,” he exhaled.

She lifted her head from his shoulder so that he couldn’t misinterpret her sincerity.

“Maybe He refuses to forgive you, but I do. I’ve decided you’re worthy of forgiveness so nope, sorry,” she barreled on at his sheepishly contrary expression. “No takebacks.”

If anyone was inconsequential, it was her—tiny, expendable human that she was. But she knew he cared for her, even if he would never admit it. So she hoped, meager as it was.

He, too, would find peace in her forgiveness.

AN: Man, I love these two! Whether together or apart, but mostly together, they are my absolute fave brotp on the show. Should there be any doubt, you should know that this was the longest one I had to cut down yet. It's like the longer I get into this, the longer the drabbles want to be which, no brain! Not the point!!

Anyway, I have bigger Ella & Lucifer brotp stories in the works. This is just me testing the waters on their voices so to speak.

So we had a huge family reunion and I was just wondering if you could write something around that and how even though Shawn is from Canada while I’m not , he would be in his element in Pickering but he would be totally new to my family who is from the islands and totally loud and crazy. “Wait, explain it to me one more time,” Shawn drummed his fingers against the steering wheel of J-Bone as he drove down the familiar streets of Pickering. You laughed shaking your head before answering.

“I live in Florida and so does one half of my family,” You said slowly, hoping that he would finally grasp the concept.

“Yes, got that part,” He nodded, keeping his eyes on the road.

“And the other half of my family live in Pickering,”

“Yeah, got that part too,”

“Well, that’s all you need to get Shawn,” You explained, shaking your head.

“Well, the way you put it the first time confused me,” He laughed, defending himself. You and Shawn were driving up to your family’s home in Pickering, as you were about to have a huge family reunion with everyone. It was going to be Shawn’s first-time meeting everyone besides your parents.

Shawn would be lying if he said he wasn’t excited, he felt in his element in Pickering. It was his home.

“Just a warning, my family are loud” You widened your eyes at just the thought of them.

“So?” Shawn asked, shooting you a weird glance.

“So, I’m just prepping you” You nodded.

“Honey, I can do loud” He smiled, nodding at you, “Ooh, I love this song,” He bopped his head slightly before turning it up. On the Loose by Niall Horan was now blasting through your speakers, filling you with a warm bubbly feeling. You were excited for Shawn to meet the rest of your family, but you were nervous that they might overwhelm him.

Shawn parked on the side of the road across from your aunt’s home, there weren’t many car spaces left because of how many people were showing up today. You could hear music blasting from the backyard and people talking as soon as you knocked on the door.

Shawn intertwined his hand in yours, you could feel how sweaty they were; maybe he wasn’t as confident as he seemed earlier?

The door opened there was your Aunt Jen from your dad’s side.

“Y/N! So great to see you,” She engulfed you in a hug.

“How’re you?” You smiled, hugging her back just as tight.

“You know, surviving” She laughed.

“Oh, this is Shawn, he’s my boyfriend” You smirked at her.

“I have heard a whole bunch about you young man,” She smiled at him.

“All good I hope,” He laughed. It put you at ease to see that he was joking around with her, hopefully, he wasn’t as nervous now.

“Great even,” Jen took a step back so you both could come inside. Just as you thought, there were people everywhere. From second-cousins you hadn’t seen in years to your grandparents who you were on the phone with last night.

“Woah,” Shawn’s eyes widened at how many people were inside.

“That’s not even half of it,” You laughed at his reaction. You grabbed his hand, waving at a few of your distant relatives. You pushed the back door open, knowing that your parents would most likely be outside in the slight sunshine.

“Hi mom,” You called, seeing her sipping a glass of red wine with your Aunt Ella.

“Oh honey, you’re here!” She got up from her seat, but the real smile came through when she saw who you were with, “And you brought Shawn, oh come here” She hugged him first.

“Hi, Cass” Shawn smiled, hugging her back.

“Shawn, my boy” Your dad called out.

“Mr Y/L/N,” He held out his hand for your dad to shake.

“Don’t be ridiculous, come here” Your dad brought him into a tight man-hug. Seeing how happy Shawn was to see your parents brought a smile to your face.

“Oh, Y/N you’re here too” You dad joked.

Soon Shawn pretty much became the life of the party. He had made the full rounds talking to nearly everyone at the party. You loved watching how much his eyes lit up when talking about his job, but when they moved onto the topic of ice hockey, that’s when Shawn really got involved.

Your younger cousins were absolutely in love with him, making him play dolls and Xbox simultaneously. Aunt Jen and Ella loved how much he gushed about you when they interrogated him in a way, your uncles letting their wives take the reins on the questioning. Your grandmother stole him for around half an hour, she had somehow conned him into helping her out with making her famous bread pudding for dessert.

When your family from Florida began to talk about local things back home, he would be genuinely interested to learn more; it made your heart melt.

It was around nine thirty at night when Shawn finally made his way back to you. You were sitting on a hammock scrolling through your phone when he came outside to see you.

“Why’re you out here? Everyone’s inside, bout’ to play a wicked game of head’s up” He smirked at you. You moved your feet to make room for him on the hammock. He sat down, the two of you entangling your legs together not knowing where yours started or ended.

“Just having some quiet time,” You smiled at him, locking your phone. He tilted his head and smiled at you.

“Why do I feel as if I haven’t seen you all day?” He asked.
