In which we discover Ulrike's puzzling new obsession.
Previous / Next
Transcript under the cut.
Helena: “Faaaaaust?!? Oh, there you are. You will not believe the day I’ve- Ulrike… What in the fresh gnome hell am I looking at here?”
Ulrike: “Oh, yeah! I stumbled upon this little guy today and couldn’t resist adding him to the collection. Isn’t he adorable? What should we name him?”
Helena: “He’s… naked.”
Ulrike: “Sharp observation, Zhao.”
Helena: “Tell me the truth, Faust. Am I going to have to stage a gnome intervention?”
Ulrike: “Well, you know I’ve been struggling with just a touch of artistic block lately.”
Helena: “I’ve noticed, yes.”
Ulrike: “I’m stressed about my thesis. Nothing I do seems interesting or innovative or even good anymore. Plus, I signed up for that stupid hipster gallery opening when I don’t even have a piece ready to show!”
Helena: [settles in for a long talk] “I’m still waiting to hear where the gnomes come in. Is this your cry for help, compulsively purchasing bizarre lawn ornaments? Should I actually be concerned?”
Ulrike: “No! I mean, yeah, at first it was a weirdly comforting distraction. But I think I’m a secret genius, Zhao, because these guys could be the key to everything!”
Helena: “You think these inanimate objects are going to, what, show you the meaning of life?”
Ulrike: “Of course not! But they are going to make me the star of that postmodernist jerk-off contest.”
Helena: “And let me guess. That maddeningly cryptic explanation is all I’m going to get.”
Ulrike: “A lady never reveals her cards too early. I have to be certain it’s going to work first. Anyway, I want to hear all about your terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.”
Helena: “Maybe I was being a little overdramatic. But I got caught in a downpour again because it literally never stops raining here. I spent the entire day feeling and probably smelling like a wet dog. Then this asshole in workshop took an unprompted shit all over my short story.”
Ulrike: “Yep, classic asshole move.”
Helena: “I remember hearing something about ‘feminist drivel.’ Then I think my soul left my body and I sort of blacked out.”
Ulrike: “Fucking misogynist swine. Do you want me to kill him for you?”
Helena: “Yeah, you and what army?”
Ulrike: [crushes Helena’s ribcage] “Me and my army of gnomes, obviously.”
Helena: [struggling for breath] “I walked right into that one, didn’t I?”

I’m listening to Game of Thrones on audiobook for a reread while I work and I came upon a quote that really struck me, especially after watching House of the Dragon.
“They found the white hart, it seems … or rather, what remained of it. Some wolves found it first, and left His Grace scarcely more than a hoof and a horn.”
- A Game of Thrones - Eddard XII
I know people will hate to hear this, but the idea that the wolves (probably Nymeria) took down the white hart and the two monarchs at the end of the series being Starks (sorry I don’t think that’s changing for all the Bran and Sansa-naysayers) is absolutely wild to me.

(finally) here’s the updated version of accessible ways to protest for palestine ! hopefully this will be more legible :) mentioned links and more accessible ways to support palestine in my linktree in my bio ! if you have any other suggestions about accessible action for palestine, please comment them below i’ve also amended a few outdated elements of the post. go to the original post’s comments for some really valuable extra insights on the topic ! note to say that nothing in this list will be accessible to all, it is merely a list of suggestions for more accessible action. the topic is incredibly nuanced and that can be hard to get across through the limited means of an infographic.

“Yes, dear,” Fanny said. A damsel in distress. A cussing damsel in distress. She didn’t need saving. She’d chosen this. Had Cup done the same? No, he was a child. It had to have been different. Was he waiting to be saved? Why couldn’t he save himself? Fanny spotted her reflection in the hallway mirror. Why couldn’t he save himself?
-Chapter 348: Rabbit Reflections
No Text and Rambles below
Tumblr media
"Why couldn't he save himself?" / "Why can't I save myself?"
I jumped through so many hurdles to try to get this finished. From making an entire wallpaper pattern that I'd only fade and edit to my desires to having an entirely different drawing as a reference picture so I could figure out how to draw her all the way to looking up dozens of references in the 1920s. I was determined to finish this.
I would've used text but procreate doesn't have that? Not that I've found. So my handwriting it is. Hopefully it's legible, if not that's the quotes underneath that last picture. I went with color instead of grayscale bc I missed my colors... How am I supposed to thrive without my wacky colors?
Now to talk about Fanny, so headsup some mentions of domestic violence this does get a bit more serious.
This version of Fanny is my favorite character when it comes to depictions of abusive relationships hands down. I've been in a similar situation in my life before so to grow up, get older and understand these subjects and to see how well it's depicted and carefully it's treated has me jumping off the walls.
This moment specifically hit hard for me. The implied "why can't I save myself?" as she looks in the mirror, was painfully relatable. I don't think most understand how genuinely difficult it is to leave an abusive partner [especially as a woman in the 1920s!!! I hope Fanny gets out okay!] and how much more you'd have to sacrifice to get out of that situation
No matter how much support you have it will ALWAYS be hard. I especially love how Cup's relationship with Fanny has shifted from romantic to Cup genuinely trying to support her and how Vicious coached him. Because yes that's the correct thing to do. Which is to be there for them.
No matter how much you want them to leave them or for their s/o to drop dead or how frustrating they are about staying, the most important thing is to support them.
I hope I did this scene the justice I was thinking of giving it when I read this. I do love Fanny and hope to see her in a healthier situation and picking up better habits. Which might be the direction she's going with recent events, so that's exciting!
Anyway I've rambled enough lol hope you guys like this it felt like forever to finish it

Tommy had plans for his weekend getaway with Evan. Big, important plans. Life-changing plans, hopefully. Instead a nasty case of smoke inhalation has him stuck in the hospital, even if only for observational purposes. But maybe with a new plan and a little help from a friend he can still pull this off.
Or: Tommy is a sap and ropes Eddie into his impromptu hospital proposal plans. (The sickeningly saccharine, 4k, Love Actually proposal oneshot nobody asked me for.)
Excerpt:
“Need you to pick up a few things. ” He tilted the notepad again until Eddie nodded and gave a: “Sure, no problem”, in confirmation. Tommy picked up his bag from the other chair. He rummaged around a little and eventually found his keys. He handed them over to Eddie then picked up the pen again. “Downstairs, hobby room. Sketch block and sharpies. Bed room, dark blue dress shirt from the left side of the wardrobe.” “Dress shirt? Not sure why, but okay. Just the sharpies and no other art supplies though? I mean, you’re probably gonna be out of here in a day or two, I’m not proposing you move your entire art studio to the hospital. But if that’s all I can just text Buck, he should still be at the house. Bobby made him promise to rest for at least a couple of hours. He can bring the stuff with him later.” Tommy’s eyes widened and he shook his head violently. He scribbled hastily his handwriting becoming less legible by the letter. “Don’t tell Evan. Surprise.” “Okay okay”, Eddie laughed mockingly: “I’ll keep your secret. Though technically I don’t even know what I’m keeping a secret here.” He raised his eyebrows at Tommy in silent question. He looked into Eddie’s eyes and took a deep breath. He swallowed down his nervousness while picking up the pen once more. “One other thing. Upstairs, guest bedroom. Inside the bedside table drawer.” Eddie frowned. “Okay. And what exactly am I going to find in there that Buck can’t just bring here when he comes over?” Tommy smiled softly and wrote down two final words then he handed the notepad to Eddie. The other man stared down at what Tommy had written and gasped. “Holy shit. You sure? We’ve had crazier things happen at hospitals, but…” Tommy nodded and kept smiling. He was sure.

hi! cross stitcher here, I think this is a very cute concept but as it is the patterns are kind of unreadable due to the lack of gridding. are you planning on adding some way to count stitches/spaces in the future? jw!
Oh yes! Thank you for this ask-- short answer is "Yes, probably on Sunday!"
For the long answer, if I may be permitted to gush about the process for a moment… 😄
"What format should the samplers take?" is one of the main dilemmas that arose when building the bot. On the one hand, they need to 1. look beautiful, crisp, and legible, and on the other, they need to 2. be stitchable, but--
One of the earliest plans for the bot was for it to create full, complete patterns for each sampler: grid lines, symbols, and a key built into the bottom of the image-- basically recreating what WinStitch or PCStitch does. The key and symbols ideas never got off the ground (complicated to code), but I did get grid lines implemented.
Tumblr media
They don't look good, though.
I would consider this version of a sampler to be failing at both points 1 and 2, neither looking very good nor being actually that good to stitch from. The grey lines wash out the color and break up the image and text, and the absence of symbols (and to a lesser extent centering lines, a key, and line counts) makes it subpar to work off of.
So my plan is to make two versions of each sampler: one, generated by the bot and uploaded to tumblr, and the other processed manually by me, the human, through WinStitch, with keys and symbols and a Pattern Keeper version and all that jazz. Hopefully, the best of both worlds. :)
Straight up, I didn't think anyone would even find the bot until Sunday at the earliest, so I was planning to process the first batch of samplers and upload them then. 😅 I'm thinking a Ko-Fi gallery to host the PDFs, since it lets you do 'free/pay-what-you-want'. I'll drop the link to those here when I do!
Thank you for the ask! I'm very happy to see the bot get a warm reception here. ^_^

On stolen fanart: a guide
So you've realized that a piece of fanart was NOT drawn by the OP, and they don't have permission to repost it. Now what? Obviously, you avoid liking or reblogging it, but if you have a little extra time and energy, what can you do to help?
Finding the artist:
If the artist's name is written legibly in English letters on the art, that's easy. Search Google or DuckDuckGo for that name, and you should (hopefully!) be able to find a social media account for them.
If it's written in a language like Chinese, and you don't speak Chinese, that's harder. For me, I use a Macbook, so I have the program "Preview", which allows me to select text and copy it (and then I can search DuckDuckGo for the name + "Weibo"). I don't know what the options are if you don't have Preview.
If there's no watermark, you can look up the image. Save the image or the link to the image, then use Google Images or SauceNao to find a source. SauceNao is easier to use, but in my experience, it's way less likely to have the fanart you're looking for.
If you have to use Google Images: Click "Find Image Source". If there's a Twitter link, you may have to scroll through an unrelated person's profile to look for a retweet of the art. If there isn't a Twitter link, sometimes Pinterest pins will have a source, but it's a long shot.
Unfortunately, in many cases, it's not possible to find the artist.
Crediting the artist:
So you know who the artist is now, and you have a link to one of their social media profiles. That's great! What I do is leave a reply that gently lets the OP know that they should not be posting uncredited art, and also lets other users know where to find the artist - replies on Tumblr are very visible now. For example:
"Original source: twitter.com/CoolArtist Please don't re-upload art without credit. This specific artist has a notice on their profile asking people not to re-upload their art."
If you really want to reblog the art, and the artist DOESN'T have a notice like that, you can just leave that reply as a reblog. Now you have cool art on your profile, and your followers will be able to find the artist!
If you can't find the artist or don't have the time/energy:
You can still leave a reply. You can ask OP for the source. You can gently let them know that this is unacceptable behavior. When artists see that their work has been stolen and re-uploaded without credit, it can be very discouraging, and even contribute to them leaving the fandom. If the artist is so good that you want to share their work, don't you want them to create more?
In conclusion:
I don't want to be part of a fandom culture that steals art. Please, make it clear to fanart thieves that we're a community, not a loose band of Content Creators(tm). Honor artists' hard work.

Just spent some minutes changing my bookmarks' notes to state the title (with the title itself bolded), author, info (rating, pairing category, warnings and completion status), tags, series (if applicable), chapters, words, and summary (with "summary" bolded). Maybe this way I'll get rid of the urge to start the code while pressing shift and therefore getting >/strong> one day… Hopefully. Basically happens with every html code every single time, so I can't "mindlessly" type it, but oh well… Practice makes perfect, I hope.^^
Also, my bookmarks are unreadable now (one big blob of text with two bolded spots), but I'll find a way to make them legible without taking up so much space, hopefully. :/
Do you have a legible way of doing notes in your bookmarks if you also try to get some of the work's info in it, in case it gets deleted and you get confused what that deleted item used to be?
--
The most legible way involves taking up tons of vertical space.

hello friend, i joined tumblr because of your comic because its neat! I have been dying to make a comic and clangen smacked me in the face with some juicy drama. Just one question: what size canvas do you use for your moons/pages? Idk how tumblr formats things and what I need to do to make things legible Splinterclan coming to y'all soon, hopefully with some Cool Shapes and Angst (TM)
WAAAAA SO FUN. i hope you have so much fun with yours my canvases for this particular comic are 1200px wide, and anywhere from 2000 to 3000px high../long!?! depends on the moon, length wise.. but i try to keep it small enough, width wise bc i feel more confident and easygoing, the smaller my canvases are LAKSNDK the thing with tumblr, is the longer your pages are, the more .. narrow? they end up seeming? bc you can't click to enlarge it much at all. FORMATTING IS WEIRD HERE. so honestly i'd split up longer moons into multiple pages and go like, 1000x1500px wide if you like to work small. it looks the nicest, i think! and make sure your text is big enough! THAT SAID, i work with a small monitor atm so maybe it's not as bad on bigass screens I LOOK FORWARD TO SPLINTERCLAN. DON'T HOLD OUT ON US FOR TOO LONGGG

Reincarnation Mirabel’s thoughts about Disney and their film but made into an image.
Made while listening to my Reincarnation AU playlist - the specific song used for the main text is Puppet On a String by Sandie Shaw.
The text on the blouse/skirt, symbolising the embroidery is categorised:
Pink - words that are relevant to Mirabel
Orange - her relation to Disney
Green - the Madrigals’ names
Light Blue - the song titles
Dark Blue (apologies for it being unclear in the image) - song lyrics sung by Mirabel that were slightly ironic
Purple - the family singing to Mirabel in (the ending of) All of You
There was a second, very gore/bloody version of this piece but none of the writing is legible. I also think it looks better to just have the blood at the neck, both style-wise and more metaphor/symbolism.
There’s a lot going on, but that accurately sums up Mirabel’s thoughts and mental state.
I apologise if you can’t properly read them; I’m limited to what Tumblr can show you. But the guide above should hopefully help!
