okay the time has come I cannot procrastinate this any longer:
Obikin Big Bang beta: help needed!!
tl;dr: I'm writing a big bang fic about Obi-Wan and Anakin figure skating, they're also respectively aromantic and asexual, it'll probably end up ~60k, I would be suuuper grateful if someone could help me look through the final-ish draft, for grammar and spelling, over the next two-ish months.
ALTERNATIVELY if anyone is happy to just chat about either figure skating, or the disaster aro/aceness of these boys, I would also love that very much please hmu!!!
--- more stuff under the cut ---
working title: figure skating?? (as it's called in the docs)
rating: T
wc: 60k (12 * 5k chapters- a rough estimate)
some tags: Alternate Universe- Modern AU, Asexual Anakin Skywalker, Aromantic Obi-Wan Kenobi, Internalized Aphobia, Getting Together, Queerplatonic Relationships, Slow Burn, Angst and Fluff, Inspired by Yuri On Ice (sort of)
This is my first big bang, I've not written with a beta before, and I've certainly not tried to finish anything this long before. so, whew: leaning curve! I'm at the point where I'm producing chapter drafts which are close to their final versions, but also debating the details of some scenes and descriptions. And so, I'd like some help with the following things:
good old grammar and spelling! (I changed the whole thing from past to present tense at some point so there may be slip ups) this will be hopefully just a final pass of a version of the draft that won't change very much, a draft I'll hopefully produce at some point, incrementally, between now and the end of september :'D
skating stuff: I am a casual fan of the sport, so between a pandemic-years-old youtube rabbit hole and tearing my hair out trying to read ISU documentation, I'm still trying to figure out "how skate". (I thought I was in pretty deep but iceberg always goes deeper.) I'd sleep a lot easier if anyone who knows more than me about skating would be willing to give the skating descriptions (up to 10k max) a read through to check for realism.
aroace stuff: this is a big one. It's arguably even more important to me to get this right than the skating. In addition to being a disaster aspec myself, I've been trying to read up a bit, but that still leaves some gaps between my knowledge/experience and the experiences of these characters in the fic. Which is why I would really really like a second pair of eyes on some of the scenes and characterisations.
60k is like, a lot of words and I am still slowly being forced out of denial about it so I know that even a spag check is a big ask. But honestly, anything is appreciated, whether you could help me with Obi-Wan's aro-allo-ness, or figure out how to people three whole Grand Prix events. As for contact, here, or discord, or anywhere you know me will be fine!
Now let's call it at that, before this post gets any longer. If you've read till here- thank you already!

OH HELLO IM BACK (^∀^●)ノシ
uuugh sorry for 3 month hiatus lmao (enjoy this lil drawing i made :D)
Ok RL update time: was busy with figuring out my finaid situation for college, then getting scammed by a dude and having to create a whole new bank account :( which ultimately just sucked the money from my wallet the motivation to draw out of me and then when i was pulling myself together, i was suddenly busy celebrating my friends being back home from their college (wooo!) and then my roommates and i were apartment hunting for college. We managed to find a decently cheap apartment (well as cheap as it can be for a city on the outskirts of LA lmao) and we finally got approved and accepted and signed the lease! Most of my college stuff is getting figured out and ive been getting more motivated to art and now i luckily have more free time on my hands too!
Ive been having more personal time now, so hopefully i can draw more fandom fanart (lately ive mostly been doing OC stuff but honestly idk if i want to include my OCs here or just keep it fandom only) I do have some bad news, my Summertime Comic will continue to be put on hiatus just cause i need to do more research :') Looking over my outline, i was very ambitious with the story and topics i wanted to juggle. I do want to make it relatively accurate well as accurate as it can be for a made up town inspired by 1970s Germany can be So i dont want to continue the story right now with my half assed research and possibly offend/possibly hurt anyone with my ignorance on these sensitive/political topics and worldbuilding. That being said, I understand hiatuses kinda suck so i might just create an alternate ending that strays away from these deeper topics and try to keep the plot strictly "Forger family reconciliation" just for the sake of having closure to the story, and then when i have more time to do ample research, I'll draw out the "true ending" of what i wanted to happen. Or I might even just take parts and pieces of the original plot and simplify it to make it more easy for me to draw and so it'll have the remnants of my OG vision of the story. I'm still undecided but i really really do like the story and i dont want to entirely abandon it :)
I think mentioned it in my last comic post that i already had the draft done of the next part and that is true, so now that i have more time ill clean up the linework on that part and post it at some point (hopefully by this month) ((let me give you a lil sneak peak. also ik it looks angsty but i swear its a sweet wholesome part with family feels <3))
Anyways TDLR: im back and i got most of my rl stuff figured out and i want to use the rest of my summer break to draw fun comfort fanart things that ik i wont have as much time for when i attend college. So yea get ready for an influx of fandom brainrot ผ(•̀_•́ผ) Hope yall enjoy the art and have a wonderful rest of the day and remember to stay hydrated in these hot summer days!

WIP Cleanout progress
Ok, so last we spoke I had 21 WIPs on the list and had identified why each one wasn't finished yet and given each one an excitement score of 2-20. Then I calculated the excitement/words-left-to-write ratio.
The fic with the lowest such ratio is one I started a billion years ago, literally one of the first SPN fics I started, and had never gotten more than maybe halfway through for a variety of reasons. I know I love the shitty first draft thing but most of what I've written here is so old that my writing has changed so much (for the better) that even what I've got would have to be heavily rewritten. So that one finally got tossed into the "unlikely to ever finish/post" folder, which was probably a decision that was long overdue.
Of the next five lowest scores, three were on the "got intimidated" list, and so I set a goal of moving those from "intimidated" to "slow but steady" which probably means outlining them. The other two are SBS that would probably go a lot faster if I had more fleshed-out outlines for them, so that is my goal for them.
Anyhow, I won't go through every fic individually. I've put 3 in a "Later" bin - not ready to dump them in "won't get finished" yet but I am also not going to commit to doing anything with them during this cleanout. That leaves me now with 17 to do something with; I should probably move a couple more to that Later bin.
Of those I have 3 "Intimidated -> SBS", 4 "full outline", one "figure out ending" (once I figure that out it'll be an easy one to finish but I will save the actual finishing for after this cleanout), and 9 "finish". The intimdated->SBS are basically the same as "full outline" tbh, except that one (maybe two) of them probably also involve cutting down the overgrown plot to something more manageable.
So basically I'm hoping to finish 9 fics and outline 7, plus brainstorm the final plot point for one. That's still way too much lol. The "finish" fics have an estimated 67K left total, which again, the most I've ever written in a month is like 45k and that was pre-covid. Although a couple of them I think might have less left than I thought, but that doesn't cut it by 20k.
So I'll need to do another round of adjusting my expectations/goals, but for now I think I might be able to at least power through a couple of the outlines. Which hopefully my post-covid brain will see as more approachable than actually writing, and maybe will get me warmed up for the actual writing.
#pg writes#wip cleanout#unfortunately basically none of the finish ones need to be outlined#so I can't just change them to that#those ones are all ones that I know what needs to happen#often it's just a few more scenes if that#I just have to WRITE IT

Status update I guess. I dunno, I think these are kinda fun. Besides, I want to get into the habit of using tumblr as a space to just vomit out what I'm thinking more often.
Anyway, I'm up to the final chapter of the second draft of LFI (the big thing, but that's too vague and this is just a temp name anyway). I'm not too worried about it since it doesn't need that much work done to it. I think. There's some stuff that's gotta get changed around and fixed to fit the changes I made throughout the second draft-ing but that should be about it. Also it needs an actual ending. Damn.
It'll probably take a third and maybe even a fourth draft before it's truly "done" but such is the life of working on a long work that you've poured nearly a year into. I just want it to be as perfect as possible. Reduce the chances of looking back on it and thinking "oh god why" or at least increase the timespan between posting and regret. I'm half-tempted to get some fresh beta readers in on it. Not because I don't trust my current beta, far from it. But I think maybe a fresh-ish perspective that hasn't been colored by months and months of workshopping and brainstorming would be good. Like having the author of a book talking to you about the book you're reading would probably change your perception of it, right? Instead of taking the writing at face-value, you're taking into account things that aren't even written down. Vibes, really. Hm. I dunno. Maybe once it's "done".
As for the other thing, the one shot that's still untitled(M1, we'll say), it's also going well. It's edited (for the most part) and it even has a summary. No title, but I think I'm gonna brainstorm one from the list with my beta when they get through it. Hell, I even wrote out what I wanted the author's note to be. It's damn near ready to go save for a final pass of beta reading and a title. Yippee fuckin' skippy.
I highly encourage writers going for a longfic to also have a oneshot on the side they can go through when the longfic gets overwhelming. Keeps the momentum up. I've got a few more oneshots that I wrote around the same time as this M1, but I think only one of them is really a concept I could run with. For the sake of discussion, we'll call these A1-3.
A1 is probably one of the earliest from that time, but the concept is a little...eh. Not bad, but not impressive. I think if I explored it a little more, I could find something in there, but I kinda doubt it.
A2 is a lot better. Like it's actually pretty damn good. I based it on a particular day during my playthrough and the tone of it just spoke to me. Good concept. Good tone. Good a lot of things. Probably the next one I'll work on. This is the one I was talking about a few paragraphs ago. I could work with this one quite easily.
A3 is... well, it ain't bad. It's got a pretty good tone and concept, but again, it all lies in the execution. There's a lot there I could work with, but it would take a lot to get it where I would be satisfied. It's my first crack at a post-11/20 so there's a lot there to work with. I just gotta figure it out.
Other than those, I only have ideas. I haven't written a oneshot from scratch in a long time, so I'm kinda just sifting through the ones I have written and editing those to be good enough since I already did a bulk of the work. Maybe once I'm done with these, I'll go through my older stuff and rewrite them. There's some chapters from BTM that are no longer accurate to the 'verse I'm rocking with so I could pull a uh... I dunno, like a remaster/retcon thing where I both remake them and change some stuff around as needed. Although I think going back and rewriting older stuff is a slippery slope. If I kept going back and rewrote all my older stuff to the "new standard," I'd never get anything done because I'd be rewriting everything. Maybe I'll go back to them after a significant period of time, but I kind of want to focus on new stuff. (I admit that the temptation is STRONG.)
Hopefully the next update I have will be that something is "done" and uploaded. Probably M1.
idk
my ass re-editing the same 86k words and then my brain tells me to rewrite an entire major-minor plot point (i've been writing this thing for five months and im dissatisfied with half of it for various reasons):
