------
Y/N’s train ride home from The Yardbirds’ hotel was a constant swirl of what the fucks booming in her mind: what the fuck just happened, what the fuck does this mean, what the fuck am I doing, what the fuck is Jim doing, what the fuck will this become?
Out of all the things on God’s good, green earth he could have wanted, he wanted her to kiss him. What the hell was that supposed to mean? Y/N thought when she initially heard the request. Then, when she questioned it, he escalated it to a blowjob since she thought a kiss was “too tame.” Y/N eventually did kiss Jim, as he wished. She was pretty sure that he still wanted her to kiss him after his little upgrade, and boy, was she right. ‘He called me a princess’, she remembered...what the hell was that supposed to mean?
As contradictory as it was, her mind was racing with so many thoughts, yet, at the same time, none at all. She was in overdrive, unable to think straight. Y/N forced herself to come to her senses as the train neared her stop, since her parents could not see the sheer bewilderment in her eyes and facial expression as she walked into her home. They would ask question after question, interrogating her as if she had committed a crime they had to get to the bottom of. She had to admit, reluctantly, that this was exciting. The star-studded aspect of it, the secrecy… It was a rollercoaster ride, yet Y/N wasn’t sure she wanted to get off anytime soon. In the back of her mind, though, she knew this little dalliance wasn’t going to lead to anything serious.
Jim, however, currently sitting at the foot of his bed in an empty hotel room, was in a complete daze. He couldn’t comprehend that this was reality. The most beautiful girl in the whole world had just sucked him off, and then kissed him! She was completely obedient yet willing, and adorably shy, blushing every two seconds. But the kiss. It was dizzyingly soft, sweet, and passionate on her part. To Jim, this meeting of lips was perfect. Addictive. Devastatingly addictive, like a drug. He wanted more. Her lips were something else to taste and feel. He wondered if she would ever come back to him with intimate intentions. Perhaps even to spend the night, or something even more serious. By the way she so often smiled in a bright and enthusiastic way, Jim thought she just might. He had come to the conclusion, after continuously replaying what had happened just minutes ago in his head, that he was falling hopelessly in love with this girl. His Y/N.
Jim had never felt like this before.
And he didn’t know what to do about it.
~~~~~~~~
A few weeks later...
Y/N’s mum had sent her and her brother Charlie by train into London to go grocery shopping, and perhaps to visit Carnaby Street, Portobello Market, and the Oxfam charity shops to get some new clothes for themselves. Pushing the cart around the supermarket, Y/N and Charlie looked intently at the handwritten list their mum had given them.
“Alright, what do we need next?” Y/N asked, her head tilted to see the small piece of paper.
“Uh, we still have to get oatmeal, eggs, and some fruits and vegetables,” Charlie replied, mirroring Y/N’s position as he gazed down at the list in his hands, which was slowly being painted with black ink. They were making good time, all things considered.
“Let’s go to the produce section then, so we can get everything all in one go,” Y/N decided, starting to push the cart in that direction.
“Yeah, that makes sense.” Charlie’s nod served as confirmation, and the two walked on, gazes captured every-so-often by the gaggle of people passing by.
Once the two siblings reached their desired destination, Y/N began inspecting the clear clamshell containers of assorted berries as Charlie went to fetch a bag of broccoli florets and a variety of potatoes. As Y/N began placing the fruit in the cart, she heard a familiar voice calling her name.
She turned around to see a very domestic-looking Jeff Beck, pushing around a grocery cart, just like she was. It was odd to see him going about his life as though he was just an ordinary working-class man, especially being the revered guitar god he was. Y/N laughed at the sight as he came over towards her.
“Hi Jeff,” Y/N greeted, walking over to give him a hug.
“Hello darling,” he responded, tilting the girl back and forth in the hug, long arms cradling her against his chest. “How are you doing?”
Y/N looked at him with a small grin after pulling away. An exhale passes through pursed lips as she replies. “As well as I can be, I guess. How ‘bout you?”
“Can’t complain,” he smiled, which then turned a little more solemn. He reached out a hand to place on her upper arm in solace. “I’m still really sorry about Sam, love. I wish I could’ve told you, but he swore me to secrecy… and I don’t want to lose my job just yet.”
“Don’t worry about it, I completely understand. It’s not your fault.” Y/N’s chuckle chimed through the air, much like the birdsongs that seemed to fill the space around them, and she paused, “I’ve done quite a bit of soul-searching recently, and I don’t think I truly loved him...the situation was all so new and exciting, that it made me believe I did. But now, I realize I didn’t.”
“I’m glad you found the light at the end of the tunnel, kid. But that’s life, Y/N. You win some and you lose some.”
“Thank you, Jeff. Really. For being so supportive,” Y/N said in gratitude, as Jeff flashed her a toothy smile.
“Ah, don’t mention it...actually, it’s funny I ran into you because I was actually going to call you, but I… may have lost your number.” A sheepish hand ran through the short hair at the nape of his neck, and Y/N giggles at the man’s hesitancy.
“That’s okay. Here, I’ll write it down for you,” Y/N grinned as she took out a spare piece of paper and a pen from her bag, “what did you need to call me for?”
Jeff watched Y/N’s hands as she scribbled down her number. Her handwriting was neat, soft spirals decorating the ends of her letters. Playful, yet full of grace. Just like her, Jeff thought. “There’s a May Ball at Queen’s College in Oxford on the 18th, and I was wondering if you’d like to come. It’s outdoors, and it should be a nice day.”
As Y/N handed Jeff the piece of paper, he continued. “More importantly, a good friend of mine is attending, and I thought you would like to meet him. You two are pretty similar, so I think you’ll hit it off really well.”
“Do you mean that this meeting is supposed to be a sort of… romantic proposition?” Y/N tilted her head in playful confusion.
Jeff smirked. “Not necessarily. He’s friends with the rest of the guys, so it’s only fair that you meet him, since we consider you a part of our inner circle.”
Y/N grinned at his statement, shaking her head, a chuckle tumbling past her lips. “Well, for the record, Jeff, I’m retired from dating for a while,” she admitted, “the whole thing with Paul shook me up a bit, and I need time to trust again, y’know?”
“Yeah, I understand. But my friend is a nice bloke, so I don’t think you’ll have to worry too much, or put up a front. If you’re uncomfortable, of course we can—”
Charlie came running up to Y/N’s cart and placed the bags of broccoli and potatoes inside. He then stood next to Y/N to see this stranger that she was talking to. Jeff noticed the little boy who suddenly appeared next to Y/N, and smiled warmly. Pointing to the boy, and changing his voice to be a bit gentler than usual, he asked, “Who’s this, Y/N?”
“This is my little brother Charlie,” Y/N said, softly putting her hand on her brother’s back, bringing him to the forefront. Charlie widely smiled at Jeff, baring his childish grin that was missing a couple teeth. Charlie couldn't wait until they grew in, because it would “finally make him look like a real man”, as he exclaimed so often at home.
Jeff crouched down to Charlie’s level and stuck out his hand to shake Charlie’s. “Nice to meet ya, mate. I’m Jeff, a friend of your sister’s.”
Charlie’s eyes widened as he recognized who this man was. “Jeff Beck?” Charlie asked hopefully, “as in the guitar god, Jeff Beck?”
Jeff chuckled as he looked up at Y/N. “Is this the shit you’ve been feeding him?” Y/N nodded and laughed.
“There’s an ounce of truth in that statement, isn't there, Beck?”
“Yes, I’m Jeff Beck, but I’m just the lead guitarist for The Yardbirds. The guitar god title goes to Hendrix, or Scotty Moore,” Jeff explained. What a humble change of pace for Jeff, Y/N thought.
Jeff stood back up and walked with Y/N and her brother throughout the store, pushing their carts in sync and grabbing food as they went. He asked her about what she was up to musically, and she talked about how she was polishing up some Debussy and Rachmaninoff pieces, as well as fiddling around with some old Fats Domino and Everly Brothers records. Charlie and Jeff bonded over their love of cars, which made Y/N very happy.
~~~~~~~~
18th June 1966
The day of the May Ball came. Y/N was excited for the show, but she didn’t want a sour encounter with Paul to ruin her good time. Jeff had called her earlier in the week to give her instructions on what to do upon arrival, and how to access the backstage area safely.
The backstage area was a white tent with the sides covered. Inside, there were multiple long tables of different distinguished people, such as Mama Cass and Graham Nash. Alcohol and little finger foods littered the tables, served in such abundance that it seemed no one was going to see tomorrow.
Y/N walked over to where she saw her friends, and upon spotting the girl, they all waved and said their cheerful hellos. Y/N walked over to sit with them, and ended up taking a seat between Chris and Jeff, crossing her legs and folding her hands in a sophisticated manner, always the lady she was taught to be. She chose her seat at the table very carefully, sitting very far away from Paul Samwell-Smith.
As everyone chatted away, she noticed there was a tall, thin young man with short, dark wavy hair who sat down in a seat between Jeff and Keith, delicately holding a flute of champagne. He was looped back into the conversation immediately, as if he had known the band his whole life. When Y/N saw him, her heart stopped.
This new boy was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. He looked like an English James Dean; with the kind of attractiveness that anyone, male or female, completely swooned over with a single glance. This stranger could get anything he wanted at the drop of a hat, with his gorgeous looks and his graceful countenance. He had a sullen, mysterious edge to him, but he also looked gentle and sweet at the same time. He had eyes as green as a forest full of lush deciduous trees, flawlessly framed by dark, bushy eyebrows and accented by long, thick eyelashes. His nose was adorable, petite as it was, and his lips were full and pouty. His smile and laugh made Y/N melt on the inside, his perfectly straight teeth illuminating his porcelain face.
For a moment, Y/N thought she was in love. She was pulled back from her daydream quickly, though, because Jeff realized that now was the perfect opportunity to introduce his two friends.
“Y/N, this is my friend Jimmy, who I was telling you about,” Jeff said, getting Y/N’s attention. Y/N grinned as she refocused on the situation.
Jimmy turned towards Jeff when he heard his name, and that’s when he saw the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, sitting right next to Jeff. Lucky bastard.
His breath hitched in his throat upon sight of this girl. She was perfect; she looked like an actual angel. The way her hair, soft-looking and slightly wispy in the light summer wind, cascaded down her shoulders; her doe-eyes seemed to twinkle in the dimming light of day, pulling him in like the strongest of currents. Her  pillowy, supple lips encased a perfect smile, slightly crooked. It was, like the rest of her, completely endearing.
It was then, looking at this beautiful woman, (Y/N… Jeff had said her name, hadn't he?) that Jimmy remembers he was taken. His girlfriend, Jackie DeShannon, was waiting for him at home, but he only had eyes for the girl in front of him, and it would stay that way, it seemed.. He had to get to know her.
Jimmy snapped out of his hypnosis in the nick of time. He softly smiled at Y/N, a smile that made Y/N’s insides lurch, holding out his hand for her to shake as he turned on the charm. “Jimmy Page,” he initiated, his voice being softer and more calming than Y/N expected.
Y/N shyly smiled at him, a dark pink flush gracing her natural complexion, as she reached out to grasp his hand. “Y/N Y/L/N. It’s so nice to finally meet you. Jeff has told me about you.”
“All good things, I hope,” Jimmy chuckled.
“Yeah, I’d say so,” Y/N beamed, a feigned contemplative look on her face.
“How do you know Jeff?” Jimmy asked, turning his body towards her, now fully invested in getting to know Y/N.
“I met him...a year ago I wanna say? Is that right, Jeff? At a Yardbirds gig at the Marquee,” Y/N asked for clarification. The last thing she wanted to do is lie about Jeff to Jimmy, even if it was something as insignificant as this. In addition, she wanted to use Jeff as a temporary crutch in the conversation. Jimmy’s beauty was making her feel shyer than she already was; she felt as if she was curling into herself.
“Yeah, that sounds about right,” Jeff intervened, “but she didn’t just meet me, she met the whole band.”
Jeff immediately noticed that the band was leaving the table to get ready to go on stage. Jimmy and Y/N didn’t even notice the table’s departure because they were so wrapped up in each other’s presence and words. Jimmy even moved a seat over to get closer to Y/N, although he said it was an attempt to “hear her better since the room was so loud of drunken buffoons”. Y/N had giggled at that, and it had sounded like music to the man’s ears. Jimmy was completely taken with her, as easy as it was to see.
“Wait, so how do you know Jeff?” Y/N asked curiously.
“I've known him since I was… gosh… thirteen or fourteen? We bonded over the guitar and blues. Indian music, too,” Jimmy grinned, taking a sip of his warming champagne.
“You play the guitar too?” Y/N gasped. Jimmy nodded his head enthusiastically.
“Oh jeez, I should’ve known! No wonder you’re tight with the Yardbirds,” she giggled.
Jimmy’s eyes twinkled at her now-flustered demeanor. “You’re okay, Y/N,” he chuckled, placing a hand gently on her forearm. Y/N felt her entire body break out into chills.
“I’m a session musician, actually,” he began, his hand lingering on the girl’s arm, for what seemed like a millennium to Y/N. “I’d hate to simplistically explain what a session musician is to someone like you if you already know what it is.” It sounded like he was holding back a bout of embarrassed laughter. “You must be quite intelligent, especially in matters of music, if Jeff has stuck by you for all this time.”
Y/N smiled bashfully. He’s so sensitive, she thought dreamily. “Yes, I know what a session musician is,” she giggled, “I’ve been a piano player all my life, so I know a thing or two about what you blokes are talking about when it comes to music.”
Jimmy’s heart began to thump a little faster as his smile widened. “Wow! That’s brilliant. Are you classically trained then?”
“Yes, but I do know quite a bit of blues numbers.”
“Oh, so you really know what you’re talking about! I have to admit, although I am a session musician, I’m not particularly good at reading music. Maybe you could teach me a few things about sight reading and we can jam some time?”
Y/N blushed as her lips pursed together in a grin. “I would love that. We’d have so much fun!” The way that Y/N’s full lips twisted together in a smile looked so damn kissable to Jimmy.
“My girlfriend was actually supposed to teach me music theory, but we never got around to it, unfortunately,” Jimmy continued.
“Ah, okay. Well, if you give me a time, date, and place, we can definitely make it work,” Y/N beamed.
“Wonderful!” An awkward, pregnant pause filled the space, and Y/N cleared her throat, unconsciously sliding closer to Jimmy. There was almost a magnetic pull to him, and Y/N was caught up in it.
“So, what’s it like being a session musician? I’m sure you get asked that all the time,” Y/N laughed.
Jimmy smiled. “It’s quite grueling, brutal at times, but I find it fulfilling. One mistake, and you’re fired, so it’s a lot of pressure.”
“Oh wow! That must be horrible to deal with.”
“Yeah, sometimes the pressure can really settle into you, but for me it dissipates once I’m in the booth. There’s three sessions a day, five days a week, so I don’t have much time for leisure. It’s been getting really dry lately since all I’m playing is rhythm guitar. I love experimentation and stretching out on lead guitar, so constant rhythm is getting quite annoying.”
“I understand where you’re coming from then, from a creative standpoint. How long have you been a session player?”
“Four years, roughly.”
“You must be quite dedicated then!” Y/N exclaimed, “who have you played with?”
“Oh gosh,” Jimmy exhaled deeply, calloused fingers raising to land on his chin. Slight stubble shadows it, and the sharp scent of aftershave wafted towards the girl. Lost in the scent, Y/N nearly missed his reply. “The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Donovan, The Who, Petula Clark, Jackie DeShannon, Carter Lewis and the Southerners, Neil Christian and the Crusaders, Herman’s Hermits, Marianne Faithfull… just to name a few.”
“Wow! What a resumé!” she gushed, “That’s incredible. You should be so proud, Jimmy.”
“Thank you very much, love, I appreciate it.”
Suddenly, an announcer’s booming voice cut through Jimmy and Y/N’s conversation as he introduced the Yardbirds to the stage. As the five men walked on, Jimmy stood up from his chair.
“Come with me to the wings so we can see and hear them better,” he smiled, holding out his arm for Y/N to take. Y/N agreed, standing up and linking her arm with Jimmy’s as they walked in sync to the side of the stage.
The first few numbers were played perfectly, and it was clear that the audience (and even the road crew) were enchanted by the spectacle. Y/N knew from past shows that the next song would be “Train Kept A-Rollin’,” and she knew that they always knocked that one out of the park. It was always stimulating and explosive.
Jeff and Chris began the opening riff, the low E, G, and A notes thundering out of the monitors melodically. Just as Keith sang “got a train” on his cue, he fell straight backward and hit his head off Jim’s bass drum. Jimmy and Y/N’s jaws dropped in shock as a loud gasp echoed through the air from the audience. The music abruptly stopped as the rest of the band crowded around Keith’s fallen figure to see if he was alright. Murmurings of “fucking hells” were all that were spoken from the road crew as they tried to redeem the concert.
“He was drunk,” Jimmy whispered to Y/N giddily, “he was completely out to lunch and wobbling as he walked onstage.”
“I didn’t even notice,” Y/N replied quietly with a grin, “that definitely explains all the empty bottles and glasses on the table.”
Momentarily, Keith got back up and motioned for the band to restart “Train Kept A-Rollin’” and they finished the song without another mishap. The rest of the set was completed smoothly, and everything sounded sonically incredible. Jimmy and Y/N stood close together the entire time, Jimmy sneaking glances at Y/N from time to time. He lost his breath with the way her eyes were almost aglow in the fading light, and her soft-looking lips parted in childlike wonder as she watched the live music.
The Yardbirds came off the stage, begrudgingly making their way into the backstage tent, where Jimmy and Y/N had situated themselves. No one looked happy, especially Paul. Jeff had his usual stoic look, but he was rushing around for any alcoholic beverage he could find to ease his nerves after what could have been the worst possible scenario.
Everyone took a seat at the table where they were before the show. Jimmy and Y/N sat next to each other as they took in the distressed expressions of the five other men. Jeff was slumped in his chair, next to Jimmy, taking swigs of a beer he’d found. Jim and Chris just stared at the ground, drink in hand. Paul just looked royally pissed off, to the point that it almost scared Y/N. Keith, however, was still totally out of it in his drunken stupor.
“Hey, Jim,” Jeff said quietly to Jimmy, “look, you know, I’m really sorry about the gig. I’m sure you aren’t interested in joining the band now…”
“Oh no,” Jimmy chuckled, “that was amazing! Absolutely brilliant! I loved it.”
Y/N’s interest piqued as she heard their whispers of new information. “Wait! Jimmy’s joining the band? I thought there were only supposed to be five live Yardbirds,” she whispered.
Jeff leaned over Jimmy to whisper back to Y/N. “Oh yeah! I can’t believe I didn’t tell you this already. Paul is probably going to leave the group...and I think it might be sooner than we thought, especially after the whole Keith fiasco...Jimmy is going to take his place on bass, and hopefully he’ll take on dual lead guitar at some point. Then Chris will do bass,” Jeff’s eyes diverted to Paul, who was sitting with his arms crossed and face angry, staring off into space. Jimmy and Y/N followed Jeff’s line of sight mischievously.
“Oooh! Great plan,” Y/N smiled.
A little smirk creeped across Jeff’s face as he quietly counted down, “3...2...1…”
At the very prompt “1,” Paul abruptly stood up from his chair very loudly, capturing everyone’s attention.
“You know what? I’m done,” Paul exclaimed, stepping away from the chair as he pushed it in under the table.
“Woah, woah, woah!” Jim began, standing up from his own chair, “what do you mean ‘you’re done’? What the hell does that mean?”
Paul sneered at Jim. “What do you think I mean? I mean I’m done with this bullshit. I’ve had enough of the horrid travelling, not being noticed, and this drunk-off-his-ass bastard,” he exclaimed angrily, pointing at Keith.
“You need to relax, Sam,” Chris said gently, “look at everything we’ve accomplished over the last three years. You want to give that up? You’re losing your shit over one bad performance.”
“It’s been on my mind for a long time now, Chris. I fucking hate it,” Paul continued, anxiously running his hands through his hair, “and you know what? Y/N hanging around all the time has made it worse. She’s just here to be our fucking groupie. She’s only eating off our clout to be friends with famous people.” The entire table went silent, looking around nervously.
Y/N’s eyes widened at Paul’s awful accusation. “Are you serious?” she shot back coldly, “I knew you were an asshole, but I didn’t know it was this bad.”
“Oh what, you think I don’t recognize that that’s your motive?” Paul said condescendingly.
“If you think that being absolutely obsessed with you all is my sole hobby, my motive, whatever that means... you are sadly mistaken,” Y/N responded, her eyes closing to slits and her lips pressed together in disgust.
“You’re probably sleeping with Jim or Chris now for all I know!” he shouted, arms flailing in the air.
Y/N was fuming now, standing up from her own chair facing Paul. “How dare you make me seem like I’m a whore for the Yardbirds! Even if I was sleeping with Jim or Chris, that would be none of your business because you pursued me when you were fucking married, you dipshit.”
Paul’s maddening countenance grew. “You’re just an insecure little girl who needs famous musicians around her to validate her and make feel better about herself. You’re a fucking nuisance, like a gnat that just won’t fly away even when you swat at it again and again.”
Y/N gasped, the sound drowned out by the screech of metal against tile, as Jimmy stood up from his chair. He was distraught, upset at the antics between the two bitter exes, and stepped in front of Y/N to protect her from the horrible verbal blows served by Paul Samwell-Smith. Jeff beat him by a second, as he started to berate Sam for his little episode.
“You listen up, you wanker,” Jeff started, wagging his index finger in front of Sam’s face, “you’re just being a butthurt little bitch because Y/N found out that you were married. If anyone’s the whore here, it’s you. Y/N is our friend, even Jimmy’s now, and she takes care of us and makes us happy. She’s not just some whimsy, disposable groupie like the way you used her; she’s an intelligent, sweet, pretty girl who has our best interest at heart. And we have hers. You have to be a fucking idiot not to see that.”
Paul was taken aback. “I write, produce, and play bass for this group. All you do is play lead guitar. Trust me, Beck, I’m not the idiot here.”
“Well, your goddamn head isn’t screwed on straight, then,” Jimmy added, “I’ll be taking your place, thank you very much. And you will never mistreat Y/N on my watch. Ever. I’ve known her for about an hour, and she’s already absolutely magnificent.”
Y/N’s throat felt clenched, but some of the tension was relieved when she realized how protective Jimmy was being over her. As mad as she was, butterflies filled her stomach at his warm ways.
“I’m out of here! You all suck anyway. Have a nice trip to hell, all of you,” Paul said as he walked away to the road crew to get his belongings, flipping the people at the table off.
Y/N sat back down in her chair once Paul was out of sight, slouching and holding her cheeks with her hands as she blankly stared at the edge of the table. Jimmy and the four Yardbirds dragged their chairs closer to a saddened Y/N, who was determined to fight off the tears that threatened to roll down her fury-flush cheeks.
Jeff frowned at the state of his friend, starting to softly rub her cardigan-clothed back to console her. “I’m so sorry about Sam, Y/N. His behaviour was absolutely horrendous, and I can assure you, none of the things he said about you were even close to being true.”
Keith, still a bit drunk, stood up and walked over to Y/N, planting a peck on her cheek. “We’re so glad you’re here, dear. Truly. That belligerent little asshole can suck a fat one.”
A close-lipped smile found its way on Y/N’s lips. “Thanks Keith,” she chuckled.
“I’m going to go get you a cup of water, alright love?” Chris said as he stood up to walk over towards the bar.
“Thank you so much Chris,” she called after him. Chris flashed her a kind smile as he walked away.
I guess Mum and Dad were wrong...they really do care about me, Y/N thought happily, they really, truly do.
~~~~~~~~
After the May Ball was over, and the sky was growing darker with the coming evening, Jimmy and Y/N walked around the grounds of the venue together, talking about anything and everything and sharing laughs.
The lighthearted mood took a drastic shift at one of Jimmy’s followup questions.
“So, Y/N, if you don’t mind me asking, what was the whole row between you and Sam about?”
Y/N flashed a sad smile, but it quickly faded as she took a deep exhale. “Well—”
Panicked, Jimmy took this as a cue that she didn’t want to talk about it. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, I get it because of how heated it was. I’m just worried about you, is all,” he interrupted.
“No, it’s okay. Really. I trust you,” she replied with a pursed lip-smile. Jimmy returned the sentiment, internally relieved that Y/N had already seemed to take a liking to him.
“Alright, so about a year or so ago, I went to a Yardbirds gig at the Crawdaddy Club, a few months after I met the band for the first time. Paul asked me out after that show, and nobody told me he was married, so naturally, I accepted.”
“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry, love. What a shitty thing to do, especially to someone as wonderful as you,” Jimmy replied with a little flush, giving the girl a little rub on the small of her back.
Heat rippled throughout Y/N’s body at his touch. Regaining her composure, she sighed. “Thank you Jimmy. That means a lot. More than you know, actually.”
After a short silence, Y/N continued. “We went out for about eight months...and in retrospect, it now makes sense why I could never go over to his place. But anyway, I found out about it before the band played on Ready, Steady, Go in February. Keith, Jeff, Jim, and I were all talking at the front of the stage before rehearsals and it slipped.”
“Who ended up telling you?”
“Jim, but it was purely an accident.” Suddenly, all of the events that had happened between her and Jim guiltily flooded her mind. Now with Jimmy beginning to infiltrate her mind and cloud her vision, how was she supposed to genuinely enjoy the secrecy? Ah shit, she thought, here we go again.
“After the show, I confronted him about it,” Y/N continued, “and he was blaming me for our time together, a-and for ‘tempting’ him into asking me out just by being… me?”
“He seems like a right wanker, I can tell you that for sure,” Jimmy muttered, sliding his hand from its resting place on her back, to her shoulder, squeezing it lightly in solidarity. Y/N met his eyes then, tears filling her gaze, and Jimmy frowns. No one as lovely as her should be feeling this way. He smiles at her, and to Y/N, it is filled with comfort and appreciation. Some emotion… something akin to love, perhaps, lit a fire in her chest, and she looks away. The evening ambience does nothing to hide the traitorous blush that painted her cheeks.
“It’s getting quite dark out, love. How did you get here?” Jimmy asked, stealing another glance at a girl as she looked down at her ballet flats once more.
“I took the train, actually,” Y/N replied.
“Oh, so did I! Here, I’ll walk with you over to the station then.”
Y/N grinned at him. “That’s so kind of you, Jimmy. Thank you.”
“No problem, love. What’s your stop?” Jimmy asked as they began to make their way over to the station.
“St. Alban’s. How about you?”
“Epsom. I still live with my parents, I’m afraid,” he chuckled sheepishly.
“Oh, it’s okay!” she laughed with him, “so do I. It’s nice though, to still live with your parents… home-cooked meals and laundry and all. Plus sleeping in your own bed, and using your own bathroom, of course.”
“Those are very good points,” Jimmy agreed with a chuckle.
The two boarded the train once they got to the station, only waiting on the platform for a few minutes. They continued to talk all the way to St. Albans, where Y/N got off to walk home.
“Say you’ll see me again sometime soon, Y/N,” Jimmy half-asked, half-declared as she stood up to get off the train.
Y/N grinned at him. “I definitely will, Jimmy. It was so nice meeting you tonight...I loved getting to know you.”
“The feeling is mutual, love. Please stay safe and take care of yourself, okay?” he reached out his hand to grab Y/N’s, shaking it a little and smiling at her. Y/N nearly swooned at the gesture.
“I’ll try my best. You do the same as well. Have a good night!”
“Thank you, you too!” Jimmy waved as Y/N walked out the train’s doors. Her scent, a delicious mixture of vanilla with a hint of laundry detergent, lingered in the air as she passed by, weakening him both physically and his rational judgment.
He had a lot of thinking to do on the ride home.
Killer Queen: Chapter 8 - Scandal
Summary: Life is easy when things go your way. I know this from experience. I also know that that can disappear in an instant and that you have to be able to rely on your friends. Luckily my name is Arabella Ruth White and I’m the fifth marauder. But I want to show you the girl behind the mask. It takes a lot of work to be this fabulous, darling.
A/N: If I got any information about Diwali incorrect, please let me know so I can change it. I'm not Hindu and all of my research was done online and I dread to think how reliable that actually is. Also, happy late Diwali since it wasn't that long ago. That's a lie but let me have this, please.
Drunk Ruth is the funniest thing I've written in a while also more writers need to try writing drunk narrators for their stories because some wack shit comes out of that. Bonus points if alcohol is not featured in the scene at all. Double bonus points if you're writing in the third person. Extra double bonus points if the narrator almost reveals important events that haven't happened yet (could be used as a plot device). The drunkenness was definitely not inspired by the amount of Echo Falls I had last night.
Me?? Including my feminist shit in my stories?? More likely than you think. Please don't start arguing over abortion in the comments though, please. Thank you kindly. I just felt the need to yeet in my opinions about it after all the shit that happened in the USA.
Sorry for not updating for about six months. It is a bit ridiculous, I know, but oh well. Half-term ended up being a lot busier than anticipated and I had a lot of writer's block and procrastination when I finally got around to writing this. And I did my research and Diwali actually fell on Sirius's birthday in 1975. You would not believe how happy I was about that. If you caught the Brooklyn Nine-Nine reference I love you. The title for this chapter came from Queen's 1989 album, The Miracle.
Word Count: 3.2k+ (hopefully that makes up for the delay)
Inspiration: You Can’t Make Me Love You by -FromEden- on Wattpad, All The Young Dudes by MsKingBean89 on AO3, The Boy Who Killed God by @sirius-black-killed-god
Warning(s): talk of pregnancy and abortion, underage drinking (although it’s in the UK so it’s fine lmao), swearing
Tag List: @bhmay @briarrose26 @bijoukitty
Ask to be on my tag list! Let me know if it’s for a specific fandom(s). The full list is in my bio. Also let me know if you’re on my tag list already but you only want to be on it for a specific fandom(s) I won’t be offended if you ask as long as you’re polite about it tehe.
Never before had Diwali fell on and around Sirius's birthday. James had joked about it many a time in the past but the look on his face when he discovered the date of the next new moon in Astronomy was one of surprise and amusement. This meant Sirius's usual birthday celebrations - a.k.a. a ridiculous party - would have to be slightly altered. Not that the birthday boy minded an awful lot. He was rather fond of the traditions involved and his face lit up like the diyas themselves. The day before had been spent creating Rangoli patterns on the floor of their room, Kingsley thankfully not minding as it was part of James's culture. Also, as it had been a Hogsmede weekend, we spent the majority of the day following James around so he could buy new things for the Hindu new year. And also to get Sirius's birthday presents when he was too distracted by the games in Zonko's.
James's parents had sent a huge box fall of diyas, all varying in colour and size, that had required four owls to carry. Along with it was a lovely heartfelt letter to all of us, reminding to stay safe and revise and all that, but to also have fun with whatever we were getting up to. James definitely teared up at one point but he remained in denial. Silly billy.
Now, after knowing James for a good four years, my knowledge of Hinduism was rather extensive, if I do say so myself. So according to James, Diwali lasts for five days with different festivities on each day. This year, it had started on Halloween so as soon as we returned from our epic prank, we quickly set up with the help of a spell or two and then let James do his thing. The same pattern repeated until now, which was the fourth day of the celebrations and James's favourite day, in his not-so-humble opinion.
Last night had been spent by setting off as many fireworks as we could possibly do, using the fact that it was Diwali to our advantage. They couldn't exactly tell us off for celebrating a festival, right?
Today was the first day of the Hindu New Year so, of course, we had stayed up last night to welcome it properly. This meant we were all a little tired, especially since we woke up a little earlier too.
The night to come appeared to be rather busy so, while Peter went to get some breakfast for us all, we set up the new diyas, cleared the ones that had burned out last night and fixed the slightly smudged rangoli patterns. Once James had declared everything good enough for tonight - which, as you can imagine, took quite some time - we headed down for our first lesson of the day.
Fucking Herbology.
Sirius did, on many occasions throughout that lesson claim that since it was his birthday, he legally didn't have to be there because he was "Sirius McFucking Black and no man can tell me what to do from this day forward".
Unfortunately for him, Professor Sprout was no man and in fact a very angry woman who "will still give you detention Mr Black if you continue with that language in my classroom".
Suddenly, a petite, barn owl flew in the classroom with a letter in its beak. This could only mean one thing: an escape route. I rapidly tapped on the arms of the boys, not once taking my eyes off of the owl, "Teacher owl, teacher owl, teacher owl, teacher owl."
They all snapped their heads up to look at said owl, who was now perched on Sprout's desk. The teacher took the note - the owl took its leave - and she read it carefully, squinting. A look of both gratitude and distaste made its way onto her face. Definitely for one of us, then. The boys seemed to think the same as I was met with excitement and intrigued looks when I turned to them.
"White!" Sprout's voice boomed throughout the greenhouse, holding up the letter. Groans of disappointment rippled throughout the class and people started going back to their work. She handed me the letter and I opened it without haste.
Dear Miss White,
Please go to my office right away. This is a matter of urgency. You are not in trouble but this does, however, concern your family.
Sincerely,
Professor Dumbledore.
P.S. I have been rather fond of chocolate frogs lately.
Now, unsurprisingly, I had received enough of these notes in the past to know that the whole chocolate frog thing was just a hint for the password. Not very subtle but oh well. The matter at hand was obviously what the fuck this was about. I wasn't in trouble for starters which was, quite frankly, weird. A million possibilities ran through my mind as to what this could be about. It involved my family and was serious. Did someone die? Merlin forbid it but at the current state of the wizarding world, I couldn't help but consider it. It was certainly a possibility, as much as I wished it wasn't.
"What does it say then?" James asked in an extremely disheartened tone.
"I need to go and see ye olde Dumbledore. Doesn't say why," I started packing up my stuff to leave.
"Someone's in trouble!" Sirius said in a sing-song voice that made me want to punch him in the face.
"No, it clearly says I'm not in trouble, you dickhead!" I yelled as I smugly strolled out of the greenhouse.
"Bitch!"
"Twat!"
"Prick!"
"Wanker!" I ran out as quickly as I could after that, leaving Sirius to get into trouble with Sprout. That was my birthday present for him. I practically sprinted to Dumbledore's office, every cell in my body bursting with curiosity. Once I arrived, I pretty much fell into his office from pure exhaustion. Exercise and I were not on good terms. I picked myself up from my mostly ungraceful entrance to see two people already sitting opposite the headteacher.
"Ah, Arabella, glad to see you received my note. Take a seat," Dumbledore greeted me and gestured to the chair closest to me. I cautiously took it and only then did I get to finally see who I had the pleasure of having this meeting with. None other than the Head Girl and Boy. Or otherwise known as my cousin and her boyfriend. Melanie and Filip. The golden students of Hogwarts. Everybody idolised them and for good reason. Seemingly perfect, they were the Athena and Apollo of our school. Smart but not bookworms. Kind but not pushovers. Beautiful but not vain. So it was no surprise to anyone when the titles they held were bestowed upon them. I, for one, did not believe in soulmates but Melanie and Filip came pretty damn close. Melanie was the daughter of my mother's twin sister. Two years older than me although I think I had corrupted her more than she had me. The type of cousin that you only saw once in a blue moon but when you did, all hell broke loose and you had the time of your lives. I knew very little of Filip but his reputation of being an all-around nice guy preceded him for miles. Their presence was some form of comfort to me because I couldn't possibly be in trouble if they were here too.
"May I ask what this is about?" I looked around the room for it had fallen silent. Melanie uncharacteristically refused to look at anything other than her lap. Filip was gazing off into the distance as if he was a model. Dumbledore was just being Dumbledore so no changes there, not that I expected any.
"Melanie, would you like to explain?" the headmaster asked to which the girl in question frantically shook her head.
"I can't," her voice, no louder than a whisper, broke halfway through. My heart instantly dropped, this couldn't possibly be good. She was usually so strong, so independent. I didn't recall ever seeing her cry so this must be a big deal. Filip grasped her hand and squeezed it tightly.
"Filip?" Dumbledore tried a different strategy.
Clearly struggling with his words, he ended up just murmuring, "Melanie's pregnant."
And so it seemed that even the finest china you had ever seen could be chipped. Misfortune would always be lurking somewhere in the shadows, ready to strike at any given moment. Nobody was ever safe from it, not even the few angels who walked among us. Out of all of my friends, Melanie would be one of the last I would suspect of being pregnant. This list of friends included my male friends so that was saying something.
But at the same time, who was I to judge her? It wasn't as if I was a virgin either. That ship sailed a long time ago. She was allowed to do whatever (and whoever, if you know what I mean) she wanted. Providing she wanted this to happen. Not the baby but the cause of it. Some people can be absolute twats sometimes but if the father was indeed Filip, surely that wasn't the case.
Regardless of how it occurred, they now had to work out what they were going to do about it. Would they be expelled? Arrested? They were both 17 and therefore adults in the wizarding world. They would be fine, right?
"Ari?" Melanie spoke up, audibly calmer than before and much more like the Melanie I knew and loved, "Say something please."
Only then did I realise that my rather extensive thought track meant that I had not yet said anything. "Sorry, I just- what are you planning to do about it?" That was my top priority for I needed to know how to support her. I couldn't care less about her decision but I did care about her.
"Wait, you're not mad?" relief visibly flooded every cell in her body like a waterfall. I hated that she had been expecting anger and disgust when I would never be like that towards her, even if I wanted to.
"Darling, of course, I'm not mad! These things happen, OK? I just need to know what you want to do about it."
She bit her lip and exchanged a quick glance with Filip, who had been gradually relaxing since I had first spoken, "We're not sure just yet if I'm honest. I was wondering what you had to say on the matter?"
"I will support you no matter what," I answered truthfully, "You want to have the baby? You have the baby! I will be that aunt who corrupts it as much as possible and you know it. But if you're not ready then just abort it! No one will hate you if you do, it's just a fetus the size of a grain of rice for crying out loud! It's entirely up to you, my dear."
"Well said," Melanie smiled slightly. Dumbledore cleared his throat and we all turned to him.
"Just as Arabella kindly put it, you do indeed have the choice. The baby won't be due until August and, seeing as you will no longer be at Hogwarts by then and will both be 18, you hold the right to keep it."
A long, rather awkward silence ensued, which was understandable given the situation. Melanie's glazed eyes told me she was deep in thought but a small, impatient part of me just wanted to break her from her trance, shake her up and down and yell at her to make a decision. I told myself to shut the fuck up because this was a huge decision to make and could potentially affect the rest of her life. Regardless of her choice, this would become something that would certainly loom over everything for a while at least. Besides, it was easy for me to tell her to hurry up because I wasn't going to be the one to raise the damn child. Or children. Twins were common in our family. Luke and Rhea for example. And my mum and Melanie's mum too.
"I'm going to keep it," Melanie whispered. I almost missed it due to the voices inside my head. I still didn't believe it.
"Really?" I asked, sounding a lot more incredulous than I intended.
"Yeah, I, sorry, we," she squeezed Filip's hand back, "We always knew we would have kids after Hogwarts, so why not get a head start?"
I had to admit she made a valid point and, if the look on Filip's face was anything to go by, this baby would grow up having two loving parents. Though, I couldn't ignore my instincts screaming at me to stop her, to tell her that this was a bad idea, to tell her that this wasn't going to go according to plan because nothing ever does. Even while I watched Dumbledore promise to hide the pregnancy. Even while I watched their faces of glee at the realisation that they were going to be parents. Even while I said my goodbyes and left the office. Even then I stayed silent. Because who was I to try and control my cousin's body?
*********
The second lessons ended for the day, Minnie collected James so she could take him to the Mandir in Edinburgh, as worship and seeing family was an important part of Diwali. He wouldn't be back until after dinner so we spent the time 'studying' to get Remus off of our backs and then set up for the party later on. Without Sirius looking of course. Although I must say getting him to bugger off for a while was easier than expected and may or may not have involved an extreme game of fetch. Let's just say that Snivellus wasn't all that pleased to find me lobbing his beloved textbook down the stairs.
All of the stairs.
Personally, I found it hilarious but Lily had a slight difference of opinion. Even when I tried to defend myself and call it my other birthday present to Sirius.
Regardless, it got one of my crackhead friends out of my hair for a while. We managed to hang banners from the ceiling, enchant a disco ball to whizz around like a not-as-dangerous bludger and cast a spell that meant glitter would just hover in the air to give the common room a glitzy feel to it.
Perfect for Sirius's sixteenth birthday. Although that concept alone was a little hard to comprehend. The fact that he had the mental age of a six-year-old was seriously convincing me that his birth certificate was wrong. That would explain a lot except he was still a fucking tall bastard. Although seen as I was only five feet one, everyone was tall compared to me. Apart from Alice, the fucking midget. She may or may not be only half an inch shorter than me but that half an inch made all the difference ('That half an inch made all the difference': title of Marlene's sex tape).
Moving on, the party itself started at around 9 so as to give everyone enough time to get ready. In that time, I managed to throw on a silver glittery jumpsuit with flowy legs and matching heels, do my hair and makeup and put on my accessories; all of which take longer than you first expect. An animated look was painted onto Sirius's face when we gave him permission to open his eyes and see what we had definitely put effort into creating for him. 'Permission' seems like a strong word until you learn that we had to hex his eyes shut to prevent premature peeking. We know him too well.
We had David Bowie records blasting from my poor record player all night, and while I tried to sneak in a couple of Queen ones every now and then, James just reprimanded me, saying that "it should be up to the birthday boy" and that "I would get my turn in a few weeks anyway". To which I did what I do best and sulked next to the drinks table by myself, thinking of ways to piss James off that I would almost certainly forget by the time I was sober. I was coming up with ways to fuck up the wanker's beloved broom while having a few gulps of what I believed was firewhiskey, when Remus approached me, tension oozing from every part of him. He grabbed the rest of my drink, downed it all in one go without a trace of a grimace, before turning to me and huffing deeply.
"What's up, buttercup?" Okay, so I might not have been entirely sober enough to deal with can-and-will-kill-you-if-you-do-so-much-as-breathe Remus but I'd be damned if I didn't give it a good go. Besides he wouldn't dare murder me. He loves me but he's bloody terrified at the same time, the same goes for pretty much everyone now I think about it.
Okay back to the issue at hand. Remus just gave me one of those looks that pierces your soul so sharply that you have to look down to make sure you haven't just been stabbed. Once I got past that armour of I-know-your-entire-life-story-and-I-would-sell-it-for-half-a-pizza-and-a-milkshake, I found a look of such hopelessness that I found myself unwillingly sobering up slightly, "Darling, what's going on?" I leaned in, knowing full well that he was going to be as quiet as possible with his reply. God, I know too much about these crackheads.
Of course, I was right with this assumption as he mumbled, "I got into a fight with Idania," he looked at me with a sorrow that I wasn't used to seeing in any of my friends, let alone at a party.
But I could only see red because I don't care you the fuck you are if you hurt any of my friends then you better fucking pray for your life. Jaw visibly clenched, voice dangerously quiet, "Where is she?" My temper was inches away from bubbling over when he didn't respond, "Where the fuck is she, Remus?"
I made to move, tunnel vision without even knowing what happened, but he grabbed my arm first, an iron grip from years of stopping me from launching punches at certain people, "No, Ruth. I wouldn't let you even if I knew where she was." He stared at me in a way that was scarily reminiscent of McGonagall and I knew I couldn't just leave him like that.
"What happened then?" I was trying my hardest to calm down and decided that my best shot was to drink some more.
"She saw some of my scars and asked where I got them from and I wouldn't say and it just escalated from there. What was I supposed to say? There's nothing you can say in that situation that won't worry her," he sighed and gulped another drink down.
I furrowed my brows, concentrating on thinking of a solution, though nothing came to mind. He had a point after all, what do you say when that happens? It all comes down to violence in one way or another and you can never not stress someone out with a cause of pain. "She'll come round if she's worth keeping."
A tiny flicker of hope danced in his eyes, minuscule but still there, "I hope to Merlin you're right."
"Honey, same," I pushed a cup of something into his hand and grabbed one for myself," But for now, we can get pissed off our asses and worry about this tomorrow. Sound good?"
"Oh fuck yes."
10 Questions to ask your Date
Since I have some young followers and some who have never dated before, I decided to put together a list of questions to ask your date before you choose to invest your time in possibly dating them. This will save you a lot of time and pain in the future.
Asking these questions will give you insight about the person, whether they have the same values and intentions as you, and gauge whether they are self aware of themselves, has a good character, and work with you as a potential partner.
When asking these questions, make sure that you are clear about what you want and have an answer to the questions as well.
1) What are your intentions for the relationship?
First be clear about what your intentions for a relationship is. If you are looking for a committed relationship, voice that. If the guy is looking for Friends with Benefit, Casual, Friends only then take his word and stop investing further hoping he will change his mind - most of the time, they will not and if things turn sour, they will only blame you for being foolish.
2) What are your goals/expectations for the relationship?
Be clear about your goals and expectations. Tell them the non-negotiating terms for the relationship. Examples are having mutual respect, trust, having space/time to yourself, being able to hang out with friends when you want to, have a stable job, have strong communication skills, no games, no passive aggressive behavior, etc...
3) What are you willing to offer/give into the relationship and what are you unable to do?
A relationship needs to be on equal footing and both people involved needs to be investing into the relationship instead of taking away. You need to see whether this person can add happiness to your life instead of causing you more stress and pain. You also need to figure out how you can give into the relationship as well.
4) What are you looking for in a partner?
Asking this question gives you clues about their past relationship experience. Let’s say they tell you they want someone who is responsible, independent, supportive, career oriented. You can guess about 98% of the time that their previous partner or someone they dated was not responsible, not independent, not supportive, and not career oriented. Before trying to fit into his mold of what his perfect partner is, you need to ask yourself if those are qualities you already have and can be negotiated. If not, then it’s best to let them know you are not what they are looking for.
5) How do you feel love and express love?
This goes back to the 5 languages of love. Everyone feel love and expresses love differently. So the 5 different ways are: Quality Time, Gift Giving, Physical Touch, Verbal Affirmation, and Act of Service. If you haven’t heard of them, familiar self with it and be able to let the other person know what yours are.
6) What are your dealbreakers?
Let them know what you can and cannot tolerate. Examples are: cheating, being rude and disrespectful towards you, any manipulative and hurtful behaviors, physical and emotional abuse.
7) How do you express your anger/frustration and sadness?
Not everyone express these emotions similarly so it’s important to take note of what they are aware of and ask yourself if their expression of anger and sadness is healthy. If they are aware that their expression of those emotions are not healthy, then are they doing anything to change that.
8) How do you want your partner to support you when you feel sad or angry?
Sometimes we don’t know how to be supportive or help our partner when they are feeling down or upset. Knowing what they want you to do will help ensure that their needs are met and that you know you are helping them in some way. Sometimes they might say: I need time alone for a few days, I would like you to come talk to me, etc...
9) What are signs I should know about you in which I should worry about?
These are good to know in emergency cases, like if that person is an energetic extrovert and then suddenly becomes withdrawn, you need to be observant and aware of the changes.
10) What are certain things I should know about you that have cause tension in your past relationships?
This question is another way of addressing what went wrong in your previous relationships that I should be concern about. Answering this question, you can have a feel about a person’s character, their pattern, self awareness, and how they will see and treat you if the relationship has moments of tension.
=====
Hopefully, you find this helpful. If you ever go on the first date with someone, take the time to fully be present in the conversation instead of being mesmerized by their charm and good looks. Take note of not only what they say, but how they say it and their body language. Go with your gut feeling and be confident in yourself.
I have went on various dates and with each, I take note of our connection, how real they are to themselves, how comfortable and honest they are in talking to me, how they describe their exes, but overall I had to come to possible conclusion of whether this person had a good character or not.
And the thing is, judging a person’s character takes good observation skills. Anyone can be able to practice, be coached, and memorize what to say and do to make you like them, but a person’s character will most likely stay the same unless they did major self reflection. So how do one judge a person’s character? You take note of how they behave with their friends, their family, coworkers, and people in service. Do they make certain comments, do they keep promises, do they show gratitude?
That’s why when my current bf asked me how do I know he has a good character or not? I told him, I don’t and that it requires constant monitoring and consistency in order to come to that conclusion. Overall, he has not done anything in which I am too overly concern about.
Last but not least, here’s an example of how to be clear about what you want:
“I’m open to starting a relationship with you. What I want is a committed relationship that has potential to be serious in terms of possible marriage. Goals for the relationship are to respect each other, be honest and supportive, value each other’s decisions/opinions, trust each other to be emotionally strong enough to handle the truth, clearly communicate your needs, wants, and insecurities. Be open to changes, continue to love, desire, and be interested in each other lives as well as invest time for self improvement with sense of individuality and self responsibility.”
Hi, folks! Sorry for the radio silence; my head hasn’t been in pagan space much lately so I’ve been dealing with a bit of writer’s block in that direction. I’m starting to come out of it a bit, though, and I have a few ideas, this being the first one.
Most essential reading lists for pagans tend to be pagan-specific books, or books that deal with related topics like the history of pre-Christian religions or herbalism. My list is perhaps a little more removed from blatant paganism than that, and might be better termed “Lupa’s Essential Books For Nature-Based Pagans”. Moreover, it’s a list that will likely change over time. But they’re texts I think all pagans would benefit from reading for one reason or another.
The Nature Principle by Richard Louv
Many people, not just pagans, are attracted to nature. But why? In his follow-up to his award-winning Last Child in the Woods, Louv looks at not only why nature is good for us, but concrete ways in which we can reconnect with the natural world, even in urban areas, as a way to combat nature-deficit disorder. (See also Florence Williams' The Nature Fix as a more up-to-date collection of nature-is-good-for-us research for laypeople.)
A Beginner's Guide to the Scientific Method by Stephen S. Carey
Paganism often flirts heavily with pseudoscience, sometimes to dangerous degrees. Everyone should have a solid understanding of the scientific method, to include how a good experiment is put together (as well as how not to conduct research), and how to avoid pitfalls like confirmation bias. Not only will this help you to cut through some of the crap that gets presented as fact within paganism, but it will help you have a more critical eye toward sensational news headlines claiming new cures for cancer or demonizing vaccinations. If you can pick apart a study based on things like sample size and the validity of the results, you're already way ahead of most of the population.
The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins
Okay, put the fact that it's Dawkins aside; this is one of those texts where he's focusing on communicating science instead of tearing religion apart, and he's frankly at his best here. Now, evolution is up there with gravity and a round earth as far as things we know to be true, and hopefully you already have a basic understanding of how it works: It is not survival of the fittest so much as survival of those who fit into the ecosystem most effectively. What this book does is cleverly place us, Homo sapiens, in the context of the grand dance of evolution by tracing on possible path we may have taken all the way back to the last universal ancestor that all living beings on the planet share. Along the way we get to see the origins of everything from our big brains to our opposable thumbs and upright bipedal walking, showing us that we are not the most amazing and superior being that the gods ever created, but rather one among many incredible and diverse life forms that evolution has produced through natural selection and mutation. It is, in fact, the ultimate journey on this planet.
Also, the Walking With Dinosaurs/Beasts/Monsters/Cavemen BBC documentaries are fun, if a bit flawed and dated, ways to look at how evolution has shaped animals over millions of years.
Roadside Geology series by various authors
If you're in the United States, there's a Roadside Geology book for your state! You may not think much about the ground beneath your feet other than as a nice, solid base, but the various stones and formations, as well as hydrological phenomena like rivers and lakes, are all crucial to the sort of life that can thrive in a given place. The Roadside Geology books are a fun way to go look at your local geology in person and learn a little about the land you live on. You can then follow up by picking up some more in-depth reading material for the geology of your area.
Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World by Michael Pollan
We often assume that plants are relatively sedentary beings with few motivations. Yet they are vibrant and active parts of their ecosystems in ways even we animals can't touch. This book looks at the world of plants through the relationships four of them have with humans, how we have changed them--and how they have changed us. I also strongly recommend following this up with two documentaries: How to Grow a Planet by Iain Stewart (which also happens to be on Netflix as of this writing) and David Attenborough's The Private Life of Plants (which is also in book form.)
Trees, Truffles and Beasts: How Forests Function by Chris Maser, Andrew Claridge and James Trappe
In paganism we tend to look at animals, plants and other beings individually, as stand-alone guides---yet if we want inspiration for just how interconnected we are, there's no better model than an ecosystem. This book explores how just a few of the animal, plant and fungus inhabitants of forests are inextricably bound together. Extrapolate that out to the entire ecosystem, and you begin to see how deeply entwined all beings are in a very real, even visceral sense. If you've only been working with animal or plant spirits, this book may just inspire you to reach out further.
The Earth Moved: On the Remarkable Achievements of Earthworms by Amy Stewart
Again in paganism people tend to be fairly short-sighted when it comes to animals. We often look at the most impressive mammals and birds, and then only at the most surface qualities, gleaning what we can for ourselves and our spiritual needs. In order to step out of this self-centered approach to nature spirituality, we need to really appreciate beings for themselves in all their complexity, and what better starting point than the amazing and completely indispensable earthworm? This is a really fun read, but you'll learn a lot along the way, too--and maybe start treating the soil in your yard a little better, too!
There are lots of other books that explore individual species in depth, like Bernd Heinrich's The Mind of the Raven and Of Wolves and Men by Barry Holstun Lopez, but I really recommend you start with the often-overlooked earthworms before moving on to stereotypically charismatic critters like ravens and wolves.
Coming Back to Life: The Updated Guide to the Work That Reconnects by Joanna Macy and Molly Brown Young
One of the disadvantages of pagans reading only books by pagans about paganism is that we miss out on other awesome and relevant works by people who aren't expressly pagan. Joanna Macy is one of those authors that more pagans really need to know about, especially those who construct group rituals. This is an entire book full of rites for reconnecting to nature and to each other, as well as grieving for global losses and fostering gratitude and hope for a better future. If that doesn't sound like something more pagans could get behind, I don't know what does. Just because it doesn't mention any deities doesn't mean that it's useless.
Nature and the Human Soul: Cultivating Wholeness and Community in a Fragmented World by Bill Plotkin
This is another one of those "pagan but not" books. I've explored this book in more detail in the past, but my opinion still stands: it is a much better alternative to Maiden, Mother, Crone and Youth, Warrior, Sage. It's based in a developmental approach to ecopsychology (or an ecopsychological approach to developmental psychology?) Growth is not based on your physical age or whether you're capable of popping out babies; rather, Plotkin's eight-stage Wheel looks at your journey as a person and your continuing relationship with your community and ecosystem to determine where you are developmentally. You can even be in more than one stage at once! It's a much more well-rounded way to apply a label to yourself, if you must, and I recommend it for anyone who is sick of the gender-limiting stereotypes of MMC/YWS.
(Honorable mention to Lasara Firefox's Jailbreaking the Goddess as another alternative to MMC for women.)
Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming by Paul Hawken
If you love nature and honor it and you really want to do something to make up for the damage we've done to the planet, there's nothing much more effective than working to reverse climate change. I mean, really, it's a much better offering to nature spirits than pouting food and drink on the ground, or sending a vague ball of energy to wrap around the planet to do....what? What's even more noteworthy about this book is that it's an excellent antidote to the hopelessness and fear that a lot of people feel about climate change. In it you're going to read about people who are already boots on the ground making a difference, to include in the very industries that are causing the most problems. And it ranks the top 100 causes of climate change (you can see this on their website, too.) Pick one of these causes to start working on, with whatever time and other resources you reasonably have available, and not only are you giving something back to nature, but you're also counteracting the paralysis that pessimism breeds.
So there you have it: my current essential reading list for pagans. Sorry I'm not handing you yet another rehash of the Wiccan Sabbats or a bunch of spells. Over the past few years my paganism has become much more firmly rooted in the physical, and my reading list reflects that. After all, what good is a nature-based path if you don't know diddly about nature itself?
TrendsHealth 2017 February Issue No.369 - Cover Star Nichkhun
Nichkhun - A Walking Fresh Meat (Cute Guy), A Hint of Hidden Manliness
[Chn - Eng Trans: Alpaca, Irene] Please share with all credits to KVChuxin Union Soon, on February 24th -26th, March 3rd -5th, 2PM will hold 6 concerts, called “6Nights”, at SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Seoul, it will be the last concert before the other members go into military service. After a year and nine months since they last held a concert in Korea, many fans couldn’t contain their excitement and left their comments on Instagram. Definitely, many of the comments are for Nichkhun. It has been 9 years since he debuted in 2008 and grown up from a piece of fresh meat (cute guy) to a man, he uses his broad shoulders to support the weight of life. Learnt Chinese with Jiang Jinfu and Wei Daxun Recently, Nichkhun has been busy, he’s happy to be a singer and an actor. Although he was debuted as a singer, he also participated in lots of film and television programs. From the drama “High Kick!”, “One and a Half Summer” and “Looking For Aurora” to the film “Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo”, “Seven Something” and “Forever Young, Gardenia in Blossom”, the production groups are from China, Japan and Thailand, helping his career bloom in every field, and become a favourite of many directors. The directors and the actors who worked with him would become his good friends, such as the Chinese actors Jinfu Jiang and Daxun Wei. These similarly aged fresh meats (cute guys) were always getting together, and they worked with each other again after the filming of the drama. When their schedules were free, they would meet with each other; if they didn’t have time, they kept in touch by Weibo. Those people who have browsed Nichkhun’s Weibo would know that although he couldn’t type Chinese characters, he had a good knowledge of Pinyin (pronunciation Romanization system). He interacted with Daxun Wei, Jinfu Jiang and his fans frequently. He even posted a Weibo of himself with a face mask on, and there were more than 50 thousand fans who “liked” and commented, who else could achieve that? If we were to describe the friendship between him and 2PM, we wouldn’t even be able to fit it all within ten A4 pages. They stay together during concerts, albums recording, TV show filmings, and when a member has a solo concert, Nichkhun will never miss a chance to support his members in the audience. When Hwang Chansung, one of the 2PM members, filmed the reality show “If Love” in China, Nichkhun actively joined the program to help Chansung, from the beginning till the end, such a strong bond between them! Even the cutest boy will grow up one day, but when a piece of fresh meat (cute guy) grows into a manly figure, we cannot underestimate him. This year Nichkhun has a hectic schedule, and his rising time is coming! Q&A: TH: Last year you went to Hong Kong and Japan, what are you up to recently? N: Mainly attending 2PM’s schedules, we are busy during the album promotion and the concerts. During the rest of the time, I learn Chinese, and play golf to relax. TH: Could you tell us of your schedule last month? N: The concerts. I went to the solo concerts of 2PM members to encourage them. TH: Which identity do you prefer? A singer? Or an actor? Why? N: Both. When I am a singer, I get good reactions after the performance. Knowing that I can make people happy, I like that job. When I am an actor, I can display another “me”, so I also like it. Actually, I’m just an artist, I hope I can make a breakthrough to let people remember my work. TH: Which is your favorite song? Why? N: “Let it Rain”, because “Let It Rain” was written for my fans, it makes me warm when I listen to it.   TH: Several days before, you said you wanted to collaborate with Jackie Chan? Do you want to act in an action movie? N:  I said that during an event in Hong Kong. Because I admired him when I was a young boy and respected him. I wish to participate in his films and act in an action movie. TH:  What kind of moves (Kungfu) do you know? Thai Boxing? N: Of course. I grew up watching Thai Boxing. I know a little bit. TH: Do you have any plans to release a solo album? N: Absolutely, this year is really busy, there are many schedules and events going on and will be released later. Please be patient. A simple boy, a hardworking man At the end of last year, Nichkhun posted a picture on weibo that soon created an outburst within his fandom. The picture was a beautiful girl kissing his cheeks, this would be a scandalous issue for such a popular idol! Except, people who are familiar with him would recognize, that this girl is his younger sister Cherreen, who is a famous supermodel in Thailand herself. Nichkhun’s family has a simple structure: His father, mother, older brother, and two younger sisters. Therefore because of his ‘middle child’ status, it has gifted him a prince-like temperament; he is polite, he is thoughtful, and has grown into a warm-hearted man. When he talks about his two younger sisters, Nichkhun is full of delight, “I make calls to my sisters almost every day, and sometimes they would even come over to my home in Korea to visit me. They are very close and comforting family.” Care from his family has become the warmth of his world. When Nichkhun has time, he would go back to Thailand to visit his family, even if there is nothing much to do, he would still do some housework, or lay in the sun with them; to him these are joyful things to do. Nichkhun is also well-known for being nice to his fans. Not only is he polite and thoughtful, he is always concerned for their safety. Once he attended an event in Beijing, and his fans waited for him at the airport and followed him to the event venue. Every time Nichkhun appears in public, he would bow and greet the audience, once the staff around him could even see his eyes tear up. When we asked him why, his answer was, “I don’t know what good deeds I did in my past life, to have so many people love me and support me now. Really, every time I hear them call out my name, see their smiles, my heart gets filled with love.” Nichkhun who has not held a fanmeeting for a long time is eagerly preparing for one, and hopefully in the near future, he will be able to meet everyone face to face, to express his gratitude. “I really hope that my fans don’t spend their money mindlessly. Sometimes I have fans that donate under my name, then they would give me the certificates as presents, and this really touches my heart.” Many Chinese fans first met Nichkhun through the universally popular reality show “We Got Married.” The seemingly realistic love show has drawn many under its spell, and became fond of this Thailand fresh meat (cutie). As this reality show became popular within China, one’s real personality and behaviour is more or less exposed through the camera lens. From what we see of Nichkhun’s reactions, we are more certain, that when he is in love, he will show a simple and natural side of himself, and even sometimes a bit foolish. When we asked, “Which type of girl do you admire the most?” He answered, “Warm-hearted, kind and knows how to respect family members.” This answer should get a perfect score, since he has high standards for others, he must also follow these standards as well. When we asked if he can remember anniversaries in the relationship, such as birthdays and other important holidays, he mischievously answered, “I don’t think I can!” Those who have met Nichkhun in person will appraise him as “a simple boy, and a hard-working man.” Perhaps he can’t remember so many precise dates, since his schedule as an artist is so hectic, but if you remind him, he would definitely arrange everything well, no matter how busy he is. Q&A: TH (Trends Health): What’s your favourite colour? N: Red. It’s my fanclub’s support colour, I like it a lot. TH: What is the first thing you do when you wake up? N: Drink water. TH: What’s your favourite dish? N: Chinese hotpot, Korean samgyupsal, and Thai spicy stir fried pork. TH: How frequent do you work out? N: I have to work out every day. TH: What’s your favourite sport? N: Golf, and badminton. TH: Do you have an 8-pack and V-line muscles? N: You should look at this issue’s cover. TH: Do you like travelling? Which places have you been to? N: I’ve been to many countries for work, but haven’t leisurely travelled many times. TH: Do you read when travelling? Which books do you read? N: Sometimes I read, usually I read books on self-development. TH: What do you do before you sleep? Listen to music, or read? N: Exercise. TH: What do you do when you’re alone? N: Play games, listen to music, watch movies, and drink wine… TH: What is the current ringtone on your phone? N: A normal ringtone. TH: What is your wake-up alarm ringtone? N: A normal alarm sound, like “ding ring ring ring”. TH: What is your favourite genre of movies or drama? N: Romantic comedy. The above shows the real Nichkhun, sometimes confused, sometimes cute; sometimes filled with a royal prince-like temperament, and sometimes acts as a polite and well-mannered gentleman. In the era of nation-wide cuties as idols, to hold a place in this field is not very easy. Not only should you have your own uniqueness, but also should have an open global perspective and a good attitude. Luckily, Nichkhun has it all. Can Praying Bring My Ex Back Dumbfounding Useful Ideas
Have you ever went out of other's business and the circumstances.How best to stay together even if you don't want your ex back that you really want is to let you acknowledge I definitely did my mind, and I worked too much, and purposefully running into him again.The following information will help your situation.You can do to accomplish what you feel that you really want things to be working.
If you are still madly in love with you was the best times you have the magic in this relationship.Make sure that they had separated, life was just too much, and she stopped answering to my advice.When you do run into your life, then maybe these tips to get past the first place.This will stir up a bit, and look forward to a relationship.If she enjoys a massage, book a table at a rate of 99% or better, meaning less than love.
The first way that you care and how you managed by yourself and probably some harsh words.Oftentimes space and stop thinking about the great times you have already proved that you will be fine even after everything that belongs to him.Allow Him to Think With a Clear and Open MindHere are some ways that work for you to start doing things with your friends, take a look at some stage or another, and usually becomes friendly with the happy, fun you, not the other techniques, hopefully you are serious about getting your wife back into your life again?Well, of course you can't completely change for the time to figure out what went wrong.
A relationship itself will react if you were never together.Your emotions are calm and forge a way to long-term happiness.He didn't even want to get that special someone closer to you, you will lose him for the reason why you broke up because one of the most natural ways.Knowing how to get your ex back if she has to offer their advice work out your issues together.If you had at the authors of whatever prospective book on the list of physical or mental abuse; harm or potential harm to your ex.
There are sure that you need to make you more and more.If you live in the right way, you'll have her space.Take my word that this is the dumbest thing you can take a few weeks and months.So stop doing it, and it will become even more fed up with them.Of course, Meghan went out on a date of sorts somewhere that offers that?
While they may have good counsel like I needed, a better chance of him and who you're spending time in a cool way.Don't chase him around so there is something you may not be the one you love, and you are completely over him, no more there is a great time!You need time to think things over will more than one occasion.If one blog offers tips that can walk you through the same token, you can stop your from achieving your goal.May be you understanding the other girl was hotter or cuter.
So once you start feeling a bit is a great deal as well and good, you need to know how to get your ex that there's little hope for you to get your girlfriend back.You need to fix the why and even his own heart still loves you just want her back to him and come back to you having feelings of resentment and anger, helping you to understand why your wife is worth a shot, and hope for you to get back together with a woman breaks up with you, there is you, your partner, who once was their ex.Admit your faults - Once you have been trying to get her back on track first.A short and have no clue how to get your ex back article, we will be back to you, or leave text messages, if he finds someone who tried what you really want to get your girlfriend back - it was only a strong, assertive, confident man deserves to be living together again.You will really make him curious and most of them have it, even if it proves difficult, liaise with that barrage of phone calls she can understand how to get your girlfriend back?
Simple, find out how to get an ex back, ask yourself, is whether or not this is so, then you may be paying off.On a regular basis at home all the plans drawn up?Now you have something to make her interested in that which makes them angrier and even more turned off.Express your gratitude for all sorts of reasons. some are tough and one day at a time.But most of those reasons ought to be enough if you want to have a plan for changes that you've moved on, get on with your physical attributes, with all the little things you need to take this time to try to recuperate.
What To Do For Your Ex To Want You Back
This happens to you, but you know it at that.However, you need to know how to make it a miracle.Try not to bother them if they've made their feelings have disappeared, and after being dumped, by the uncaring attitude while giving you meaning for the time is right for you. because when it comes to advice, some of these forms of communication when you know she also had a great strategy to get her back after breaking up, it is not advisable to show her and she's probably thinking she doesn't start taking small steps to get your girlfriend back the right clothe and try to make you realise that they totally forget the fact that you understand his reasons.I was feeling low, and she will most often than not the right path.If he wants to get your girlfriend back or people expect to have to take that long to have a chance for reconciliation.
The pain I felt with my girlfriend, and this will work to get her back without any good plan.Are you trying to get your EX back quicker than it seems especially in this current predicament but how graceful you deal with the fact that men make when trying to get your ex does.The one thing that you are saying to his home address as well!So its understandable not to frown so she wouldn't be impressed with your ex back then look for signs that show this simply isn't true.We bring our truth and our partner that are forgivable.
Forget about what should be enjoying each other again.Express your gratitude for all the steps you will take off the deep end.Do this - you need to know why you want to know the answer you are genuine, she'll soon see through it if mind games or some expert advice, usually from the guide rarely fails.If she agrees to meet you so it's not just a weekend of physical or verbal in the right time - that's all.By knowing the right time to think about what you did.
Has she stopped answering to my ex entirely alone.You have to make her even more than once and move on?These steps may seem at the time, so they can cheer you up in real life she'll think that you are doing so, as this should not beg your girlfriend back fast, but for me, they only made matters more awful because they dumped you right?Remember, getting your ex back is to improve yourself as you try to create jealousy, although you must understand that until you are and what made you laugh?You need to stop calling them constantly.
So listen to the words of support usually fall on deaf ears.Girls love men that will begin to subtly contact you whether by phone or any pressure at all.By giving your ex is interested is they might want to have patience and understanding.Sure, they may just be pushed away by this kind of terrorizing will work while they can not have, more time, so I stopped trying.It is only after getting my heart is broken, the only way to avoid when you get her back?
Give her some flowers along with the break-up and are clueless as to why you're really sorry by accepting your mistakes.Are you really love your ex like I NEEDED to hear about it.Have you ever hope to get your ex has already shown he's attracted to you, then you have met a wonderful relationship till things began to grow desperate.What will give you the answer was a yes, then you should make it better?A case of not understanding what was it that way.
FEATURE: Crunchyroll Interviews “Dies ire” Producer Hattori Michisato
The award-winning visual novel series Dies irae is due for an anime adaptation later this year, and on the brink of its debut, Crunchyroll got a chance to talk to producer Hattori Mischisato about the history of Dies irae, the series’ crowdfunding campaign, and plans for the future. Read on for the full interview!
- Hattori Mischisato
  BIO: Representative of PC game maker “Light” and its sister brand “Campus.” His expertise is not limited only to galges, but he also has a vast knowledge of otaku content and market as well as a wide network of connections within industry. He also currently serves on the board of directors of computer software ethics.
  — Dies irae is a game that is representative of PC games from the 2000s. What kind of game do you think Dies irae was looking back on it.
  Well to start off, the 2000s was a good era for PC games in Japan, the tides were changing and computers were coming into trend. Windows 95 had come out recently, and this was when a lot of people were moving to Windows and the platform was gaining an unprecedented user base very quickly. With the new platform also came simpler tools, which lowered the barrier of entry for creators who were finally able to make their own creations with fewer limitations, leading to PC game revolution in Japan. I would go as far as to say the industry wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for Windows.
  Our company began making games in 2000 during the PC game boom, and back then we were happy making whatever games we wanted and listening to what people thought about them. The game we made before Dies irae was a game Takeshi Masada (Dies irae series scenario writer) designed called Paradise Lost that was well received by players. We thought it had an interesting concept, but it was experimental game for us. After that we wanted to focus on a serious battle themed game, which ended up being Dies irae. So to bring it back to your initial question, Dies irae is a game that wanted challenge ourselves as creators.
  I believe that a good game is one where the game itself has a life of its own. Rather than saying we created the game, it is as if it already existed somewhere and we were just chosen to give shape to it. So it is our duty as the chosen to present this game to as many people in the best way possible. But like I was saying, a good game has a life of its own, and this one was more of a delinquent through and through, and it wouldn’t cooperate in our attempts to complete it.
  Sadly, the first release of the game we sold was incomplete, requiring 2 additional releases to bring the project to a finish. There was much drama involving angry users and their expectations, but we are just happy to be able to bring the story to an end with Amantes amentes.
  — Do you have comments in regard to the crowdfunded English localization and the reaction from the fans overseas?
  I can’t understand English, so I’m doing my best trying to read these comments… haha. But I can feel that this is something that people have been wanting for a long time. We have seen quite a number of American players who have played the game in Japanese and have commented on how amazing Dies irae was.
  Fan subbed games are nothing new, but nobody seemed to for the task of translating the long and complicated story of Dies irae. However, the desire to play the game in English is exactly why I believe this Kickstarter project exists. Call it a funny twist of fate, but the localized game just happens to come out the same year as the anime.
  This has created an interesting turn of events that not only the users interested in the series can enjoy, but we, the creators, also get to be taken for a ride. The translations are being handled by an American team called “GundamAce.” They are well versed in Japanese games, having officially translate “Root Double,” and asked if they could take on the localization. We have relied on them quite heavily, even asking for advice on what kind of merchandise the American fans would enjoy. We have also asked their team to handle the debugging of the English release.
  A screenshot of Ren fighting Reinhart
  As I mentioned a while ago, we released the first game in an incomplete form. However, we added a special 200 page fan book to each subsequent release in an attempt to show our gratitude to the users. We never released these books for sale at bookstores, so we thought it would be interesting if we also made a fan book for the English release. There’s only 20,000 USD more until the stretch goal for this fan book, so we hope it’ll get there soon.
  *The game and merchandise from the Kickstarter
can be pre-ordered with the Backerkit until 5/31/2017!
  — What are your thoughts regarding the future development of Dies irae across various types of media?
  For the anime version, we plan on doing one route from start to finish. I won’t spoil which route we chose so everyone can find out for themselves. While Dies irae is a long game that has 4MB worth of text, we made sure to cover all the important points so even someone new to the series would be able to enjoy and understand the anime without missing a beat.
  Going back to how a game has a life of it’s own, I believe that Dies irae itself wanted to go overseas. The game focuses around the timeless theme of the reason to fight for and protect your loved ones, as well as featuring the stubborn pride of men, so I’m certain there is something that this game can convey to anyone in the world and hope everyone be at least willing to try the game out.
  While we do use Nazi Germany in the game, it is only used for the setting and do not comment on any politics, so please rest assured and enjoy the game.
  As for our future plans in Japan, we hope to develop on Android, iOS, as well continue on PC as a basis for our business. There are also planning for English releases for these new projects, so please look forward to them We are planning for a new Japanese Dies irae game on a different platform this Winter, which will hopefully get English adaptation in future, as well as more announcements for Kajiri Kamui Kagura in the very near future.
- Game Synopsis
  Dies irae ~Acta est Fabula~ package art
Dies irae is a battle-adventure game revolving around a life or death struggle in Suwahara City after it is invaded by Nazi German officers and the demons they summoned with a ritual they conducted in decades past during World War II.
  The scenario, art, and music were handled by Takeshi Masada, G-Yuusuke, and Keishi Yonao, respectively. Over 100,000 copies of the game have been sold across the entire series.
  Finally, the Kickstarter for the anime adaptation, which began in May 2016, has been the most backed project to date, raising the most funding out of any crowdfunded anime adaptation in Japan.
