The Shade and Hope O'Dare in "Pillow Talk"
February 14, 11 PM, in the bedroom of Hope O'Dare, Hope is lying in her bed, wearing a faded gray t-shirt, emblazoned with the letters "OCPD". Her strawberry blonde hair is a wild mess and her face is bathed in sweat and afterglow. She sits up as Richard Swift aka The Shade exits the adjoining bathroom. In comparison to his lover, he is dressed in black silk pajamas. He approached Hope and leans in. Richard: So, what do you think? Hrrn! He bares his teeth. Hope inspects them and leans in. The two of them kiss. Hope: Hmm, licorice. Did you gargle absinthe? Richard: Fennel tea, actually. So, the verdict? Hope: Couldn't find a single hair. Richard, slipping into bed: That's a relief. Hope: Babe, did you really take up interpretive dance? Richard: Pardon? Hope: I was just thinking about one of our previous pillow talks. You were the middle in one of your October funks and I suggested that you'd go on an adventure and you said something about it being a dark path like opium and interpretive dance and that last part just stuck in my brain. Richard: Odd thing to focus on. Hope: Babe, it's not the first time you've dropped these hints about your past and it's getting harder to ignore the fact that you don't really follow up on them. It's like you're Scheherazade. Richard, softly chuckles: Well, I suppose there's no putting it off then and I do love telling stories. Hope, pulling up her underwear as she gets out of bed: I'll go put the kettle on.

All it took was a second in the shadows; one second was all they needed. One second, and then they were standing in the heart of Opal, the beautiful, sparkling gem that it was in the merciful last light of day. Hope and Richard breathed in the soft aroma of roses and sighed as one.
They were home.

How do you think a meeting between Hope O'Dare and La Sangre would go?
90% making fun of Shade and 5% Hope asking La Sangre what it's like being a vampire, 5% sharing police tips.
So I say very well.

starman dedicates a lot of time to discussing the role the police plays in a world where heroes exist and there's this one conversation jack has with a friend where its brought up that jack used to hate cops but now hes hanging out and working with them and how that has directly to do with him being some kind of Authority now. I like that all of that is discussed but the downside is that the comic leans towards that being a Good Thing and a sign of Jack maturing which. eh
#you cant really expect an earnest superhero comic without some level of copaganda#*speaking from what ive read so far. i hope im proven wrong#chizitxt#dc#and jack defends his position by saying hes not friends with cops hes just friends with some people who are also cops#which is a very real lib argument lol. ofcourse he would say that#i cant give a fuck about how much the comic wants me to care about the o'dares tho. i will not 🫶

Season 6 Countdown: Day 8
Favourite recurring/guest character: Kendra O'Dare
I miss Kendra. I have many headcanons/fic ideas involving Kendra. I really hope she makes a reappearance at some point. She's just so fun.
Honourable mention to Karma Poole, who I hope is still around in season 6.

How do you think a meeting between Hope O'Dare and La Sangre would go?
I feel like it would devolve into swapping embarrassing Dickie stories pretty much immediately. In other words, they'd get along great.

Was there any reason behind Artair and Alyceson killing Sloan or was it a random killing?
The Murders of Katelyn Wywick and Sloan O'Dare ||| @icybreaths
Although Artair and Alyceson do frequently kill at random, Sloan's death was not random.
Firstly, you have to understand that Art is obsessed with obtaining the CasMark, as he has a fascination with magic body parts. He is also the reason my speedster, Skid Jones, has robotic legs, as Art was curious is the power comes from the person or the legs. Sadly for Art, Skid powers are Skids, not the legs, unlike the CasMark. Artair has hunted the CasMark goes back at least fours generations in Heath's family and did successfully take Heath's great-grandmother's hand, but she survived her encounter with Artair and went one to have Heath's grandmother and thus the CasMark was passed on to her and the hand that Artair obtained eventually lost it's power.
When Kat was pregnant, Artair realized he had to act quickly before the CasMark was again transferred and he managed to poison Kat a few weeks before her due date. Now Art's poisoning didn't kill Kat outright, but it made her incredibly ill that had to remain her emergency hospital care until she gave birth to Heath and his older twin sister which is what ultimately caused her.
Jump forward six years, Artair and Alyceson are able to track down where the new Keeper lives, and two, the twins are now old enough that Artair can tell which one is the Keeper, as the CasMark appears a blurry smudge that slowly develop into the symbols until it complete at seventeen.
The plan was that Artair and Alyce were going abduct Heath, and probably kill both Sloan and the other kid, cause loose ends are annoying and as a small treat to themselves. But because their both completely sadistic, and perhaps cause Alyceson doesn't entirely care too much about the CasMark, despite thinking Art will be giving it to her as he frequently refers to her as his 'prefect creation,' and also because Artair is a little gremlin and his adhd brain go brrrr when there is gore and blood and inside of body on outside, they get distracted taking out Sloan. Who, being the absolute fridge of the woman she is doesn't go down without a fight, but ultimately is bested by this deranged duo. And it was Alyce idea to make the muscle woman a literal muscle woman, delight in skinned Sloan alive.
But the prior fight was overheard by the neighbors, particularly a nosy one too who unfortunately for Heath will still be living across the street when he returns twelve years later, and it wake up a confused Heath (Apparently not his sister though. But in later years she will develop insomnia and endure her own series of traumatic experiences, so that makes up for sleeping through this one.) So the neighbor, though not investigating calls the police and Heath after listening terrified upstairs until he musters the courage to see what is actually happening downstairs only to find Artair and Alyce finishing up before the sound of sirens and flashing red and blue causes them to make a hasty get away.
Still the sight of Sloan like that and Artair's hideous rictus grin were scarred into Heath's psyche
thanks for the ask @icybreaths hope the info didn't scar you like it did baby Heath!

Nerdy's DC Comics OCs #2- Bridget Temperance and Clare Anne O'Dare
Who are they?: Bridget and Clare Anne O'Dare are the five year old and three year old, respectively, daughters of Mason and Charity O'Dare of Opal City and of James Dale Robinson's Starman run. Bridget is meant to be the unborn O'Dare child teased in Starman #81, aka the Blackest Night tie-in issue. The girls were first introduced in my Halloween 2024 picture as the trick or treaters who are greeted by The Shade/Richard Swift/their Aunt Hope's weird magic boyfriend.
About Them: Much like their mom, the girls have psychic abilities of varying degrees. Bridget is an empath, though as of now she is mostly in tune with Clare Anne, which is fortunate for the younger girl whose abilities manifests as a Second Sight after exposure to Lazarus rain, which causes her great distress. Bridget loves to go looking for bugs, isopods or "pill bugs" her favorites, and considers herself the best hitter on her tee-ball team. Clare Anne loves tigers and tries to hype herself up with the mantra "Tigers are not afraid".
Their relationship(s) with canon characters: Bridget is a daddy's girl. She loves talking to Mason about her day and asking him about his beat, more than once she asked if she could be a cop one day. She likes to paint her dad's toenails, but she does make of his "smelly troll feet". Clare Anne tends to shadow Charity, especially when her Second Sight scares her. Charity is the one who taught her the mantra and encourages Clare Anne to speak up when she sees scary things nobody else can.
The girls frequently visit Clarence and Faith, who is Bridget's godmother.
Despite the distance, the O'Dares are still friends with Jack and Sadie Knight, Bridget and Clare Anne frequently visiting Teddy and his little sister Emmy through Skype/Zoom. The first time the O'Dare girls met the Knight kids was when the Knights drove back to Opal City for a brief visit and Bridget and Teddy became pretty fast friends through a bug hunt in the city park.
Despite her insistence that she is not good with kids, the girls love their aunt Hope. They love riding in Hope's convertible, especially with the top down, when she takes them to the park and the observatory. Whenever the latest crisis occurs, Hope immediately goes to check up on Charity and the girls, even fighting off Bobo Benetti, transformed into a bear by Garro spores.
Richard Swift is a source of fascination for Bridget and a source of fear for Clare Anne. To Bridget, Richard is Hope's weird magic boyfriend who always has a story to tell and is rather game to have his nails painted, though she laments never having any black nail polish. To Clare Anne, the Shade is a continuous writhing mass of black smokey snakes with glowing eyes all over in the shape of a person.
Other Facts: Bridget goes to Gardner Public Elementary School for Pre-K. The school's mascot is Lynda the Fox.
