“You’re 5 minutes late,” Kuroo speaks as soon as you near the gate of his mother’s house. Irritated by his words, you stop yourself from hitting him. Your lower body parts are hurting from running in heels and your whole body is aching due to being pushed around in the train and crowd.
“Sorry...” is all you could say. You are too tired to argue with him. He spares no more time and enters the house so you have no other choice than to follow him. As you take off your heeled shoes you sigh in satisfaction, finally free from the pain it’s giving you.
“Tetsuro! (Y/N)!” His cousin, Fumiko, greets the two of you as you enter the house. You spot his older sister Tomi in the living room, so you greet her with a friendly kiss on the cheek.
“Where’s mom?” Kuroo asks his sister.
“Bathroom,” Tomi answers. She and Fumiko pulls you to the hallway leading to bedroom, as she smiles at her younger brother cockily. “We’re going to borrow your wife tonight, okay?”
“Huh?” You ask confusingly. Tomi doesn’t wait for his answer and pushes you to what you think is her room. “We’re not having dinner?”
“We, girls, are going to go out and drink tonight!” Fumiko and Tomi cheers. You can’t help but give out a displeased look.
“What’s with the look? Is Tetsuro the type of husband that doesn’t allow you to go out?” Tomi questions and you shake your head immediately. If only she knows what’s actually going on between the two of you... “Tonight you will forget about the pain and stress my brother is giving you. Tonight is about you!”
“Are you up to something?” The two of them ignore you. Tomi shoves a silk red dress to your chest. “I have to wear this?”
After the three of you dress up, you leave Tomi’s room. “Oh, you look very beautiful (Y/N)!” Their mother compliments you so you thank her and greet her with a bow. “Where are the three of you going?”
“Girls night out!” Fumiko does a peace sign and Kuroo snickers.
“Aren’t you too old to be going out?” Kuroo teases Fumiko and Tomi, the older girls smacking the back of his head in unison.
“Aren’t you going to compliment your wife or something? Look at her all dolled up!” Fumiko huffs as she changes the topic. Kuroo glances at you and fakes a loving stare. He doesn’t think you look attractive at all. You’re just another girl he’s so used to.
“You look good, love,” Kuroo compliments half-heartedly, so you just smile at him.
“Whatever love birds,” Tomi rolls her eyes. “Enjoy dinner with mom. We’re leaving now!”
“Bye, mom...” You bid goodbye shyly, kissing your mother-in-law on the cheek. Kuroo also leans in to give you a kiss on your cheek. Instead of feeling happy about it, you become even more discouraged about your relationship. You only act like a couple when your family is around. It’s so hard for you not to get carried away by his sweet actions.
“Bye, love.”

Kuroo is not sure if it’s stress that is clouding his mind in anger or if he’s actually jealous. He just wanted to fetch you and go home so none of his family members will see you flirting with another guy. He doesn’t anymore drama in his life, but you were stubborn and drunk and totally forgot that you were supposed to meet him outside of the club.
After waiting for you for half an hour, Kuroo entered the club and looked for you. He saw you on the dance floor with your “boyfriend” dancing as if you were the only ones in the place. Kuroo’s blood boiled. First, you’ll get caught. Second, you disobeyed him. Third, you looked so attractive under the blinding lights. He hated the thought of being of attracted to you.
The way your dresses perfectly molded your body was making him hot. Your hips swayed along to the rhythm precisely and how he hoped he was the one behind you instead. His eyes wandered and observed your whole body in awe. He didn’t feel like this when he first saw you a while ago. Why did he feel it now?
His feet dragged him to where you and Yuji were, and he yanked you off of him. “Who- Kuroo? Shit! I forgot!” He pulled you out of the club aggressively so Yuji followed you two out. The blonde saw the anger in Kuroo’s eyes so he got worried. Alisa who was just sitting near the bar saw the whole thing and also got out because of curiosity.
“Kuroo! Let go! It hurts!” You tried to pull your arm away from him, but he wasn’t giving any signs of letting go of you.
“What if you got caught, huh?!” Kuroo scolded you as you stopped in front of his car. He parked far away from the club so no one was around. Yuji and Alisa finally caught up with the two of you. “What would our parents say if they find out?! You really want them to know how much of a slut you are?”
Slap.
“You’re a fucking asshole! I can’t believe I love you!” You screamed before running away. Kuroo was glued to the ground, too shocked about your words.
You love him? But why?
Yuji was furious. He knew he shouldn’t meddle in between the two of you but Kuroo was going too far. “You’re really calling her a slut when you’re the one who’s hitting on other girls? What a prick.”
“And you know she’s married to me but you’re still dating her? Doesn’t that make you a prick as well?” Kuroo replied, grabbing Yuji’s collar in frustration.
“She’s married to you but I’m the one fucking her, so I guess I’m at better place than you,” Yuji mocked, so Kuroo threw a punch at his face that caused the blonde’s lips to bleed.
‘What is this cocky idiot talking about? He’s a virgin!’ Alisa thought as she messaged Kenma and Matsukawa in panic.
Not long after, Kenma finally shows up and helps in calming Kuroo down. He and Alisa manages to pull the two tall boys apart. Kenma forces Kuroo to get into his car while Alisa pushes Yuji back into the club.
“What’s wrong with you? You’re not the type to start a fight,” Kenma starts the conversation as Kuroo seems to calm down. The taller guy groans in anger.
“I’m just stressed from everything and let frustration over me. I’ll apologize to Yuji tomorrow,” Kuroo says as he finally relaxed himself.
“You’re not going to say sorry to (Y/N)? Alisa said you made her cry,” Kenma states in his usual tone. Kuroo leans his head on his seat and sighs.
“She said she loves me...” Kuroo says in a confused matter. Your words replay in his head and the more he repeats it, the more confused he got. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why does she love me? I haven’t treated her well ever since we’ve met. I made sure she knew that I hated her. I thought she not like being married to me too, because she moved out last year and then we never saw each other after that. Then when she returned, she offered to help me with Alisa. I don’t get how she can say that she loves me,” Kuroo explains and Kenma just nods.
“How do you feel about it?” Kenma pushes the topic. Kuroo looks out of the window, thinking deeply.
“It makes me rethink of our whole marriage and relationship. I feel sorry that I treated her like that while she had feelings for me the whole time.”
Kuroo honestly doesn’t know what to do. It’s not everyday he finds out that the woman who has hated since who knows when is in love with him. He takes in a deep breath and remembers what matters at the moment: your safety.
“I have to go home and check if she’s there. Do you want me to drive you home?” Kuroo changes the topic and Kenma shakes his head no.
“I drove here so go and talk to (Y/N),” Kenma tells Kuroo before leaving his car. Kuroo thanks him and drives quickly to your place.
What if you didn’t come home? What if you passed out on the streets? You were drunk after all. Kuroo suddenly regrets his choice of words. He should not have called you a slut. His words are eating him up and the more he thinks about it, the more sorry he feels towards you.
Kuroo enters the passcode to your shared flat and relief washes over him when he sees your heels on the doorway. He takes his shoes off and gets inside. He doesn’t go to his room, but knocks on yours first.
“(Y/N). Please open the door. Let’s talk.” Kuroo says loudly so you can hear it at the other side of the wooden barrier. And of course you hear him. You’re sitting on the floor, leaning on the door. You’ve stopped crying but you’re spacing out.
You can’t believe you confessed to him. You even dropped the L-word bomb. You don’t care about how he insulted you, you are too preoccupied by the thought of what’s going to happen now. It’s better if he didn’t know of your feelings but he already does.
“(Y/N). Let’s talk.” Kuroo continues to knock. Not in your right mind due to crying and alcohol, you got up from the floor and opened your door.
Even before he can speak up, you bowed apologetically. “I’m sorry for not coming out of club when you said so. I apologize for risking our front. I’ll be more careful next time. It won’t happen again.” You tried to close the door but he placed his hand in between the frame and door so his fingers get injured.
“Ouch!” Kuroo hisses. Worry takes over you and as if on instinct, you grab his hand and take a look at it.
“I’m sorry! Let me grab ice!” You step away from him but he tugs your hand back and pins your body on the wall in ease. His damaged hand is still entwined with yours while the other is on the wall at the side of your head. Kabedon. “Kuroo...”
“Look, I know you’re trying to avoid the topic but you can’t take back what you said. And don’t reason that you’re drunk because I’m sure you aren’t. So please listen to what I’m going to say. I don’t love you back.”
“I know. So please stop. You’re hurting me,” you lower your head, stopping your tears from falling.
“Let me finish. I don’t love you back right now but I’m willing to take a chance at our relationship. One year. Let’s try working our relationship out for one year. If I end up falling in love with you, then good for us. But if I don’t, then let’s end all of this,” Kuroo proposes, cupping your cheek. You let your facade go and start to cry.
You hate yourself because you’ll allow him to do this. You hate yourself so much be ause you’ll let him get away with everything he said. You hate yourself because you’ll let him act as if he hasn’t treated you badly for the past years. You hate that you love him so much that you’ll let your toxic relationship go on for another more year. You hate that you love him so much you’re willing to get intoxicated and hurt.
“Okay...” you reply, your hand holding his that is own your cheek. “In that one year, can you pretend that you love me even if you don’t?” You’re going to get hurt anyways, so why not inflict more pain?
“I won’t just pretend. I’ll actually try to.”
This is where your love story (hopefully) begins.

Accidentally in Love (Hawks x Civilian Reader) pt. 5
Trigger Warning: long hospital stay and angst if you squint
“Alright, it’s time to try taking a step,” Mayu states as you stand shakily on your prosthetic.
“Nope, I think I’m good,” you have been struggling to get your legs moving. You can usually twitch the muscle and shuffle about a millimeter forward, but taking a full step has not been successful as of late.
“I’m here to catch you, you can do this.” Ryo was helping today, he is rather lanky, but he can lift his patients like it’s nothing.
“Okay...Okay,” you try to focus and take a step, you manage to lift your leg, but you quickly lose your balance and fall forwards. Ryo catches you and keeps you upright, “sorry…”
“Don’t apologize, that was good. You got a leg up!” Mayu assists to get you standing again.
“Let’s try again, one more time and we’ll call it a day.”
You sigh in defeat despite the encouragement. “Fine,” you gear up to try again when a knock on the window startles the three of you.
You look over to find Hawks with a little sign, ‘you can do it!’ His feathers hold the page up while he does a little cheer with his arms. You smile and shake your head, “Mayu, please stop drooling.” Ryo grumbles as Mayu stares at the goofy hero.
“I’m not drooling!” She covers her mouth just to be sure. “Let’s, uh, do this and then uh...maybe we could go say hi?”
Ryo rolls his eyes, “yes, I’ll cover for you, but you owe me!”
“Thank you!!” Mayu jumps up and down clapping, you clear your throat to remind them you are still there. “Right! Sorry, go ahead [y/n],” they get back into position and you try again to take a step. You shakily lift your leg, “halfway there…” you clench the parallel bars tightly as you urge the leg forward.
Hawks is celebrating outside as Mayu and Ryo cheer, “you did it!!”
“I did?!” You can’t really believe it as you stare down at your legs. You are still shaking and require the parallel bars to support your weight, but you have indeed taken your literal first step towards walking again. You try to take another, but that is less successful as you stumble into Ryo again. “Welp, guess that was a fluke…”
“No, that was a success,” Mayu rolls your chair forward so you can sit down.
“You did great, I’m sure you’ll be taking multiple steps in no time.” Ryo adds on, ensuring you are sitting properly.
You hear another tap on the window, Hawks is pointing up towards the roof. “Let’s go say hi,” Mayu is quick to wheel you towards the exit.
“Thank you!” You call back towards Ryo who waves in acknowledgement.
You reach the roof and get swept up by the winged Hero in a hug, “that was awesome!” Mayu looks a bit worried, as he hovers just above your wheelchair. You are holding onto him for dear life and hoping no one could see the blush blooming on your cheeks. He carefully lowers you back down to your seat. “I was just passing by when I saw you, I’m glad I stuck around.” He is all smiles, “oh? I don’t think we’ve met.” He just now noticed Mayu standing behind you.
“Hi, uh, yeah I’m Mayu, I’m her bearcyst, THERAPIST I meant therapist.” She holds her hand out to shake his.
“Nice to meet you,” you can’t help but notice a slight shift in his demeanor as he shakes her hand.
“Could I get a picture with you?” She pulls her cellphone up, he nods in consent and they take a quick selfie. She squeals with glee, “thank you! It was great to meet you! I’ll see you tomorrow [y/n],” she dashes back into the building, leaving you alone with the pro hero.
“That happened,” you chuckle as he stretches his arms. “Sorry about that.”
“I’m used to it,” he waves it off, “I can’t stay long, but I’ll be back after work and I’m going to bring something to celebrate.”
“You don’t have to do that,” you feel flustered from all the excitement and hype.
“You kidding? That’s a huge step!” His wings emphasize his excitement as they raise up.
You scratch the back of your head, eyes trained on a random box garden. “Okay, if you want to.”
He grins and ruffles your hair, “I’ll see you tonight then.” He takes off and you feel your face burn with a blush.
“Ugh, stop that me!” You rub your face a moment before wheeling your way back towards your room. When you arrive, you find Fumiko waiting for you with some lunch. “Hey! Sorry to keep you waiting.”
She waves it off and smiles, “I just got here, how was PT?” You tell her about your day as you start eating and she lights up in excitement. “That is so great! Won’t be long and you’ll be able to walk out of here!”
Your face falls for a moment, you hadn’t thought about what you are going to do after your time here is done. “Yeah...I can’t wait.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I’ve been here so long I honestly hadn’t thought about what to do next…” She leans against her hand, thinking as you nibble on a carrot. “I don’t have a job and my landlord has informed me he needs me to start paying rent again, starting next month, or get my stuff out.” The landlord was nice enough to halt your rent payments until you were discharged from the hospital, but he failed to mention he was only doing that for 3 months.
“You know you could always come stay with me for a bit, my wife won’t mind. Rika and I could go get your stuff too and hold onto it until you are discharged and find a new place.”
“Thanks, but I wouldn’t want to be a burden…”
“[Y/n], you are my friend and I love you and if you call yourself a burden again I’m going to hug the stuffing out of you.” She squeezes your shoulder reassuringly as you chuckle. Her watch suddenly beeps, “I gotta get back to work, let me know if you need anything. Okay?”
“Thanks Fumi,” you hug her before she leaves and relax on your bed to rest up. It took a lot of energy to make that step today and you are ready for a nap. You drift off for a long time, a loud thump against your window startling you awake. “What year is it?!” You look around, your gaze drawn to the figure writhing in pain hovering by the window. You call a nurse in to open up the window and let your friend in. Once he has landed you let the laugh you were holding slip out, “did you run into the window?”
“Maybe…” he is hiding the embarrassment with his jacket collar. “Not important, I’ve brought coffee and [your favorite dessert].”
“Oh my God, you remembered?!” He sets the dessert on the table and hands you a fresh can of WAX coffee.
“How could I forget? You were craving it hard a couple weeks back.” He pops the lid off the dessert and he waits for you to take the first bite. You are so happy, flowers and sparkles float around you as you savor the bite. “Wow, I need to bring you this more often.” He tries a bite, it is a satisfying flavor. “How was the rest of your day?”
“Well, I slept for most of it, but I was reminded I need a game plan for after my stay here.” You sigh, reminding the young man of something.
“Oh! I forgot to tell you earlier, I showed Best Jeanist that rainbow bird cloth you made and he wanted to know if you would work with denim.”
“Yeah, I can work with any size thread,” you tilt your head, curious where he was going with this.
“He has his own clothing line and he is always looking for ways to improve. The quality of the cloth you made impressed him.” You perk up as you realize what he is implying. “He wants to interview you when you get discharged, but it sounds like he already wants you on the team.”
“You serious?!”
“I’m dead serious.”
You aren’t sure what to do, your hands flailing a little, “oh my- I could kiss you, thank you so much!!”
His feathers puff up a little and he has to stop himself from saying something stupid, “no problem, happy to help.” The two of you finish off the dessert and drink your coffee as you talk about his day and just enjoy each other's company. He gets a thought and checks the weather outside. “Hey, want to try flying?”
“Pardon? I am missing a very key ability to do that.”
“No, I know, I’ve got you covered on that.” He flutters his wings, “I just wanted to show you something that you can only see tonight.”
“Uh...sure! I just need to let the nurses know.” You hit the call button, a nurse poking his head in to see what’s wrong. You ask them if you can go out for a bit and he looks a little conflicted until Hawks reassures him you would be completely safe with him. The nurse makes a note that you would be going out for any other nurses that might be checking in on you.
Hawks opens up your window and picks you up bridal style. “Ready?” He waits for you to give him the okay and he takes off into the night. You hug his neck and screw your eyes shut as he soars to the surprise destination. “Alright, we are here.” You open your eyes and find he took you to the top of a tower overlooking a festival.
“Wow! We are really high up,” you feel a bit shaken as he sets you down on the platform.
“Best seat in the house for what’s to come.” He sits down next to you, one wing curling around you to block the wind.
“I’ve never seen the city like this before,” you are already mesmerized by the lights of the city.
Hawks is mesmerized by something else, he removes one of his gloves and takes your hand in his. His fingers intertwined with yours, his thumb sweeping across the side of your thumb. You feel your heart rate spike up at the contact. Before you can say anything, a loud pop draws your attention to the inky black sky. A firework briefly lights up the darkness and dazzles anyone who sees it. “Wow,” you are breathless as you take in the glorious display.
“I knew you would like it,” he squeezes your hand gently as you both enjoy the bright and colorful display. You test the waters and lean your head against his shoulder, much to your surprise he leans his head against yours. It’s comforting, the show lasts for around 15 minutes and it’s over all too soon.
“Thanks for bringing me out here,” you speak softly, scared to ruin the moment.
“Anytime,” you can hear the smile, “ready to head back?”
“Not really…” a blast of wind sends a chill down your spine. “Yes…”
He chuckles and moves to pick you up, “hold on tight.” He jumps off the platform and glides languidly back towards the hospital.
“Will you still come see me...even after I leave the hospital?”
“Of course,” he answers without hesitation, swiftly quelling the fear you didn’t realize you had. You couldn’t deny the feelings that have been growing stronger each time you see him. You didn’t want to say anything and risk ruining what you have, but you were starting to wonder if the feeling might be mutual.

Sit down and relax.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p7GxplcBSU
Says a beautiful young woman with red hair, emerald eyes and elven ears.
“I am Samara Wolfsbane. Sister of Samuel Wolfsbane. Sit down and relax.....and while we sit and listen to the Shakuhachi’s song I have  a story about a flute.”
The Crane’s Flute
by Hayashi Fumiko
(translated by J.D. Wisgo)
Once, a long, long time ago, there was a year of great famine. There was a village, and in the village lived many cranes. The cranes wandered around day after day searching for food, but since there was no food to be found anywhere, the impatient cranes gathered their belongings and traveled far away.
And so, all that remained in the village was a crane with an injured leg and his wife. The injured crane stood on the edge of a once crowded, yet now deserted swamp where the reeds grew thickly, and he gazed up into the sky where the other cranes had flown off to.
Then one day, the crane wife was prodding desperately with her beak along the water’s edge, searching for something to eat. Tottering on weak legs, she searched hopelessly about here and there, hoping to find at least a tiny fish, even a measly loach. The morning light sparkled brightly, with a single cloud floating lazily through the expansive sky, heading westward. Within a forest of young trees, the sunlight filtered down through the leaves and fell gently on the ground in patches, forming a picturesque scene.
Sometime later, the inexpressibly beautiful tone of a flute rang out through the forest. “Oh my, what could that be?” thought the crane. As she stood there listening to the lovely sound of the flute, her stomach that had been empty suddenly felt full.
The crane quietly moved in the direction of the flute’s sound until she discovered, lo and behold, that it was being played by the crane with the injured leg.
“Oh, it was you that was playing the flute?” asked the crane wife.
With a look of embarrassment the injured crane turned to face his wife. “A few minutes ago, I thought there might be something around here and began to search the swamp. Then my beak struck something hard with a clink, and when I hurriedly picked it up the object turned out to be this flute. Wondering what it was, I tried placing it in my mouth in different positions until all of a sudden a beautiful sound came from its tiny hole, and as I played the flute I forgot all about my hunger…”
“Oh, is that what happened? I was surprised by the flute’s pretty sound.  Pleasant memories from long ago somehow popped into my head, and a wonderful feeling came over me.”
The flute’s tone was so beautiful that the two cranes felt silly for having always worried about not having food.
Bearing a grudge against the many cranes that had flown away without any regard for them, the two cranes had spent their days complaining. But once they obtained the flute, with its exceptionally beautiful tone, they became satisfied with what little food they had, and from then on only spoke about pleasant memories and how they wished good fortune for the cranes who had gone far away.
“You know, when I’m listening to that flute,” said the wife, “I am no longer discouraged, even a little, and I grow hopeful that soon we will enter a period very different from this miserable famine, where the crops are bountiful every year. Today I am heading to a place a short distance away to search for fish, so now and then please play the flute for me.”
“Of course. But be careful to not get injured on the way.”
The crane wife immediately took flight. A little while later, she came to a small pond. Something was splashing around in the pond. Wondering what it might be, she set her sites on the pond and flew down to the ground to discover a place where many fish gathered of the likes never before seen. Heart beating fast, she grabbed one of the fish. Carrying the souvenir for her husband, the crane wife immediately headed towards the sound of the flute, when she encountered a family of cranes with three children, coming in from the west.
“Oh dear, it’s been quite a while. What happened to you all?” asked the crane wife.
“Well, we have had such a terrible time. Wherever we went there was hardship, and two of our children even passed away from illness. Just as we were wandering around, hoping to find a suitable place, we heard the inexplicably beautiful sound of a flute, and so we came here, thinking that there must be something good wherever the flute was being played,” said one of the parents.
“My, you were really able to hear the flute’s sound from such a great distance? That flute is being played by my husband, who has an injured leg.”
Guided by the crane wife, the family of cranes flew for a while, and were surprised to see the very village that they had abandoned. Having listened to the flute’s sound for a long time, the crane wife felt carefree and accepting of all things, finding pleasure in helping others no matter how bad off she and her husband were.
Without delay the crane wife took the fish she had caught and served it up for dinner, feeding it to the crane family, tired and hungry from their journey.
After taking only a single bite of the food, both the injured crane and his wife said insistently, “Please help yourself to the food. Eat plenty and regain your strength before you go,” and upon hearing this, the parents began to tear up. Until recently all the cranes––thinking only of themselves and hiding food from others––would fight over food whenever they came into contact, cruelly deceiving and hurting each other, and as a result the cranes, constantly concerned about food, never had even a single cheerful day.
The cranes would form groups, clamoring loudly, and prey on the weak; the strong would brag of the paltry food that they seized.
Naturally, even the behavior of the young cranes degenerated as they mimicked only the worst traits of the adults, using foul language and constantly getting in fights. The famine had stretched on for so long that everyone had abandoned their village, but now the village was even more peaceful than before, with the seven cranes talking amongst themselves about living and working together happily, never giving up hope no matter what happened.
Thanks to the crane wife they discovered a place with many fish, so the seven cranes were always able to have enjoyable meals as they lived simple lives.
Then one night, when a spectacular moon was high in the sky, a golden light radiated brightly all around, so the injured crane began to play the flute once more.
The three crane children turned towards the moon and felt a strong urge to sing.
“Wow, what a pretty, pretty moon that is…”
The youngest child began to sing. Then the second youngest boy began to sing as well, “Nothing beats the village where you were born.” The oldest boy joined in. “What a pleasant night. I can’t help but have a wonderful time.”
“Indeed, we are happy now,” said the mother crane leisurely. “Just considering that you three are no longer starving, I’m glad we came back here. But if only some of the other cranes were to come home too, things would be much livelier.“
Puffing on his pipe, the father crane listened carefully to the flute played by the injured crane. It sang out with a bright, clear tone––tweetely tweet.
“Oh my, I hear the noisy sound of someone’s wings flapping. Perhaps another crane has returned home.”
Before long, the cranes who had abandoned the village returned, one after another, lured by the flute’s sound.
“We gladly welcome back anyone who is not arrogant and shares their food with others,” said the crane with the injured leg.
Overjoyed, the cranes who had returned broke out in tears.
After that they all went to work, and everyone shared their food amicably among the group…Perhaps even to this day, the land of cheerful, lovely cranes is still around somewhere.
Our hearts are always pure
Poor we may be, but inside we are abundant
Sharing together
Working together
Always with pure hearts
We go on, loving each other
So went the gentle melody of the crane’s flute––tweetely tweet
And so we all shall be. Not fighting each other sharing what we have, especially our happiness for it doubles when you share it.
