Gear Works doesn't have a wife or children, but like many earth pony families his relationship with his parents and sibling was very close.

His younger sister, Swift Striker, is the star hoofball player for the Canterlot Sunbeams (and the only earth pony to make the team thanks to her sheer kicking ability). She and Gear Works were close, which isn't to say their relationship was peaceful or fair. As Swift established herself in her teenage years as stronger, more successful, and more popular than Gears, she ended up giving in to some of the same bullying behaviors as many of his peers.

The story of her cutie mark is a special connection she shares with her brother, and she occasionally jokes that she has Gear Works to thank for her career: when they were young they played hoofball frequently, since Swift Striker disliked more cerebral games. One day during a particularly frustrating match, Swift tapped into some hidden reserve of strength and launched a kick that nearly fractured his skull, decisively ending the match. Her cutie mark appeared at the same time, and the technique became her trademark maneuver on the field.

She has since trained and developed even more powerful kicks to play hoofball, but the rules of the game don't really allow for such dangerous behavior; her stronger techniques have been banned by the league and she's suffered several demerits for recklessly harming other players.

Introducing some of my nextgen ponies! I made them back in 2018 and these were drawn back in 2022. Newer art is in progress ^^

Turning Gear: Inventor with some impressive magical abilities. He is intelligent but the most awkward guy you'll ever meet. He is curious and together with Time Twister he often get into trouble. Starlight has tried and failed to tame his bird's nest of a mane but to no avail.

Classic Remix: A radio host on the shyer side. She feels safe sitting behind a mic but is more withdrawn in public. She likes to dye her mane to add a splash of color to her otherwise gray appearance. Remix has a great singing voice but is too shy to sing for a crowd. She got her cm for specializing on remixing classical music, something she came to love due to her moms' frequent collabs. She shares her music on her radio show.

Lightshow: Expert at creating light shows with her magic. She works as a light “technician” of sorts on live performances. Lately she has been helping Honeycrisp Melody out on her tour. Lightshow is enthusiastic, determined and competitive. One of her favorite things to do is play hoofball with her best friend Fastlegs.

Fastlegs: Sports coach for foals of all ages. Advocates for inclusion and love to teach. He lost his left wing to cancer and had a hard time coming to terms with his new life being flightless. He is the kindest most genuine stallion around. To feel more at ease Fastlegs moved to Ponyville to be closer to his best friend Lightshow and get away from all the expectations he felt back in Cloudsdale.

Honeycrisp Melody: Country singer with a heart of gold. She is a true Apple and loves to help around the farm whenever she can. She is optimistic, excitable and social. She loves to brawl with her cousin Candid Apple and guest star on Classic Remix's radio show. Melody is rather short and unlike most Apples, not as sturdy in her build. She inherited her pegasi traits from Rara's side of the family.

Blazing Hooves: Dedicated firefighter. He is highly empathic and takes his job very seriously. Blaze can be somewhat of a party pooper due to his dedication but his baby sister can usually make him ease up a bit. He wanted to become a firefighter as a colt after his family home burned down and his sister lost one of her legs in the fire.

Time Twister: Time traveler…?👀 She is sassy and confident, as well as dramatic and a smartass. She loves to create just enough of a chaos to stay entertained in her day to day life. One of her favorite pastimes is giving magical items to Gear to tinker with. The occasional explosion is the highlight of her day.

Princess Theory: An elegant and dutiful draconequus with a knack for getting into wacky situations. She loves to pull pranks and be generally annoying. Theory has a pretty dark sense of humor but just like her father she is very charming in her ways. Her parents have passed some impressive magical abilities down to her but her favorite trick is to teleport. She has ADHD.

Candid Apple: Works on Apple Acres. He is talkative, kind, family orientated and has a severe sweet tooth. Candid loves to bake apple treats when he isn’t working the land. His favorite cousin is Melody whom he grew up with on the farm.

Zerina: Librarian for the royal family. She is kind of messy and forgetful outside of work but she's incredibly sweet. She’s humble and generous. Zerina is autistic and her special interest is Equestrian history. Due to her expertise she got the job as the head librarian in the royal library where she can study all the archived materials as she pleases. She is a close friend of princess Theory whom happens to be neurodivergent herself.

Rockslide Pie: Rodeo performer. He is clumsy, silly and tends to fumble on his words. He is bold in his performances.. There is nothing he likes more than to entertain and make others laugh, something he got to discover through his aunty Pinkie.

Snow Quartz: Artist specializing on ice sculptures. She is the younger sister of Blazing Hooves but unlike her big brother she is calm and relaxed most of the time. She is spontaneous and easygoing. She's witty around her brother and likes to joke with him (on his expense). Her missing leg doesn’t bother her at all.

Kismet

I imagine anyone following this series could probably guess who I was doing next. Yep, it's Utsuro. This one was kind of interesting. I'm not super sure about the markings (they might be a little too complex? still thinking about it) and his hair was a pain to translate into pony form for me. No clue why he gave me more trouble, but I might end up changing that aspect later because it still feels a little off to me. Also, the markings are sort of part of his cutie mark, kind of like how Luna's is. I kinda wanted to give the vibe of his cutie mark being invasive/changing him. Like his coat has been symbolically tainted or burned from it. He always had some spots and freckles, but after he got his mark, the darker markings + patches/shadows over his flanks and legs appeared.

Anyway, let's get into things...

Kismet was an ordinary earth pony who lived with his family somewhere in Equestria. Like most ponies, he was excited to get his cutie mark, and curious about what it would be.

When an oddly foreboding black mark appeared on his flank one day, strangely accompanied by several new markings, at first, Kismet was just as overjoyed as any former blank flank would be.

However, as time passed, it became clear that Kismet's cutie mark was unique, to say the least. Because no matter what kind of trouble came his way, somehow, it would pass him by completely unharmed.

Good fortune and success followed him wherever he went. Kismet prevailed whenever he attempted anything, and those closet to him were often granted the same blessings.

Soon, everypony wanted to have Kismet around. In the beginning, Kismet was happy to suddenly have so many friends. But eventually, he began to realize that nopony wanted his companionship because they cared about him or enjoyed spending time together.

When a team wanted to win an important game of hoofball, they invited him. When his town's mayoral election came around, the two candidates fought for his support. And the few friends and family Kismet had cared about slowly began to treat him differently.

It shouldn't be a surprise, then, that Kismet came to see the mark as a curse. Once he realized the fortune tied to him was the root problem, he tried everything he could think of in order to make it stop. But no amount of bad luck charms or attempts to control it himself affected the endless good luck.

In the end, Kismet gave up entirely. He left his hometown behind, and started covering up his cutie mark and going by various aliases during his travels. (His current being "Sunset Shores," and using a cutie mark belonging to somepony too distant from him to have the identity theft be an issue)

He tried a few times during this period to start new lives for himself. But inevitably, his good luck would start affecting things around him and the ponies he had met. And in the end, the connection would be made between the two, and Kismet would quietly vanish.

Being alone was somehow more tolerable than being lonely while surrounded by others. So Kismet simply drifted from place to place, not making connections, and never allowing anyone to really get to know him.

On a few instances, his path led him to several other outcasts. Ponies who had nothing, were failures, or had nopony to trust or rely on. Kismet couldn't help but see himself in them. And the ways in which his fortune changed those ponies' fates were some of the only times Kismet ever felt anything positive about his mark.

Though after the connection was made, and things began to deteriorate, Kismet would disappear again. The gratitude and reverence was overwhelming. That being said, he never regretted them, and eventually, he came to realize that somewhere along the way, one pony whose path had crossed his was different. There was one pony who he had helped, who had seen what he was, and yet still saw him before any of the rest.

Perhaps that is why she, and she alone, was able to find him again. After traveling halfway across Equestria, the two of them met once more. And so, Kismet no longer travels alone.

Also, above are examples of what it looks like when he covers up his original cutie mark.

Last few notes: Kismet's fortune is probably a little different given the universe and how cutie marks work. It still makes his life miserable but doesn't necessarily completely drag the meaning from everything. At least not quite to the degree divine luck does. Just a *bit* less intense but still a curse.

And there isn't a despair cult, world-ending tragedy, nor any killing games in the works here, so there's that too...

Rarity's family! After doing Applejack's a few months ago, I realized I should probably draw out every other mane six's family just for funsies. More ramblings below :)

I always found Rarity's family so fascinating, considering her dream of Canterlot and the royal family clashes with how both of her parents seem like those who live in trailer parks down by the river. Perhaps Cookie Crumbles had a life in the gourmet baking spotlight before settling down with a retired hoofball athlete who now indulges in fishing and watching the game.

Cookie Crumbles, or better known as Betty Bouffant, rose to fame through multiple cooking shows, and her line of easy bake pans and tins. Her name is known all through the baking community and stay-at-home mothers, all aspiring to reach her level of fame. This fame has led Betty to meet Magnum during a baking charity run, and the two hit it off like 'celery and peanut butter', as Cookie tells Rarity. As if it made much sense.

The two became easy friends, and it eventually blossomed into a romance. Magnum, a legend in the hoofball scene, proposed to Betty right on the field during half-time. It may not have been the most romantic, but Betty did not mind one bit. Years passed, and upon the announcement of a pregnancy on it's way, the two decided to retire, change their names for anonymity and focus on their little family.

Rarity and Sweetie Belle take after their parent's ambitions, and although Rarity loves her parents, often times they can be... Uncivil. They certainly do not understand the intricacies of the fashion world or pop culture in general. But, well-meaning, Cookie Crumbles helps her daughter invest in a small boutique in Ponyville with what money she earned from baking, while Hondo Flanks takes Sweetie Belle out for choir practice out in the city. Occasionally, the Belle family meet together to bake and enjoy the Superhoofball game, much to Rarity's disdain. But she wouldn't change it for the world.

Thank you so much for the kind words! I am, the chapter is about 10k now, I've unfortunately just writing at a slower pace than I have in a long time. I was hoping to sit on this ask until I could finish up-- it's not done yet, but do know that I'm plugging along slowly but steadily.

Here's just a little snippy from Chapter 8:

[Scene: Jamie's arrived at Salford FC home ground for a Saturday match, along with Gary and Paul Scholes.]

They park around back, and Gary leads the way through a door and up a set of stairs to a hospitality box in the South stand. It feels a bit like the inside of a big metal shoebox, but all done up with a big tv on one wall, a black leather banquette in the corner, and a table full of catered food. Gary’s in his businessman mode already, buzzing around giving out hugs and handshakes to everyone, staff included. Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt are there, and they shake Jamie’s hand in a disinterested way, and go back to chatting about ownership things Jamie’s got no clue about. A staffer comes up and offers him a cup of tea, which he accepts, resigned to the next two hours of standing around the food table like a spare prick at a wedding.

Thank god, Roy comes in five minutes to kick-off. 

“Come on,” he nods over to where Gary, Scholes, and Gary’s mate Chris Casper were already huddled together in front of the plexiglass windows. “You don’t want to watch with them, they never stop talkin’.”

Which is how Jamie finds himself sat shoulder-to-shoulder with Roy in the little swathe of reserved seats butted up against the owner’s box. Roy crosses his arms and squints out across the pitch as the players emerge from the tunnel. Jamie recognizes a name or two, players who’ve played in the Championship or League One— but Roy knows all the player names, knows who Salford brought in and for what purpose and who’s working out and who isn’t.

“It’s been a rough start this season,” he grimaces. “The manager keeps sayin’ he wants to play on the floor, but I don’t think he knows who he’s kiddin’. It’s just big man hoofball, at this level.”

“You love this, don’t you?” Jamie grins. 

Roy frowns deeply. “It’s alright. The fans are good here. They don’t bother you too much.” 

The whistle blows, and Roy doesn’t speak for the next ten minutes or so, besides the occasional commentary: ‘That one up front for Crewe, Baker-Richardson, he’s a handful,’ or ‘Kelly N’Mai, I like him, he’s young, from the academy, a good lad.’ Salford play sluggishly, a bit clueless. The Crewe players just look better, they get up and down the pitch better, press high, and they score on the break at minute 27. 

The home crowd lets out a collective groan and the Crewe players celebrate. A voice crackles over the tannoy to glumly announce the goal. Jamie turns over his shoulder, and finds Gary looking ghostly and drawn through the window of the box. Gary’s eyes drop down to Jamie, briefly, then back up to the pitch. 

He remembers a moment from last night: crossing the darkened room and kneeling down in the space between Gary’s knees; how Jamie had felt all his troubled thoughts wash away, total relief, like a plunge into cold water on a hot summer’s day.

Roy groans, and points out some kind of objectionable behaviour as play resumes. “Jesus! Are you seeing this?!” 

“Yeah,” Jamie says, even though he’s not; caught up in later, in visions of skin, the sound of a voice shaping his name (James, James) over and over again.

Domi interview, part 3

Dominik says the biggest differences from going to playing in the Bundesliga to the PL, are pace and decision making.

D: "You get the ball, then you have 2 seconds to make a decision, in the Bundesliga you had 4. Every match is a life or death situation. Every team can beat the other, and this is what it's so great about it [the PL].

About how beefed up Salah got ever since his shoulder injury in Madrid, if working out like he does, strengthening core muscles are expected of everybody, or it's a plus they can decide to do:

The interviewer basically goes on a monologue about how muscular and strong Mo is. He seems very impressed, retelling how Mo works out, how strong he is and wonders if the special workouts he seems to do is what makes him avoid injuries. He asks Dominik about his opinion, if he too, believes in putting in the extra work, like Salah does.

D: "Nothing is obligatory, we don't have a gun to our heads to work out in the gym. Everyone does it for themselves. He [Salah], yeah, it's true all what you said. I talked a lot about to him about this, asking questions, because I was interested. He said, until he was like 28 years old, he didn"t do this (...), then he decided to cut out pasta, bread, sugar (...). He made his decision, and ever since, like even if we have training at 12, he is at the gym by like 10."

I: " And what about you, what do you think, do you do this or not (...)?"

D: "Everyone is different. I do my own things, this [what Mo does] is I think not what I need. I have tried it, being very strict about food (...), but I didn't feel better. I felt very anxious, that I had to restrict myself, I didn't feel free, didn't feel like I was able to do things freely. Now, if I feel like eating some chocolate, then I will eat it. He [Mo] thinks different."

About how much work he brings to his private life, if he watches matches in his free time, things like that:

D: It's hard still. I'm trying to build this habit up, that when I come in the door, I leave work behind, and when I leave the house and go to training it's all about football (...) But it's hard. (...) I very rarely watch matches, usually only when one of my friends play. I have a friend, who now plays in the NB2 (the Hungarian Second Division), sometimes I watch that on Youtube.

I have a friend group of 5 people, we do a shared call, than watch the friend's match on the TV."

I: "Do they do the same with you?"

D: "Sometimes it doesn't work out, but yeah, they all watch my matches too."

About playing style of RB Leipzig vs Liverpool

The interviewer goes on about how Klopp changed his tactics up a bit, after Liverpool became the champion, back then it was less direct, but now it's so direct, all about gegenpressing, there are so many balls going forward, meaning there are many, which "come back too". [It's all about counter pressing.]

D: "I can't really compare the two teams, it's a different league, different players. The coaching mindset is different too, even if Klopp and [Marco] Rose are quite similar choaches."

I: "And then there is Jesse Marsch, [Klopp and Rose] basically on steroids." (lol)

D: "You get the ball, long ball/long pass, then shuhsu. [makes a sound to go forward]

But, basically, the last season for Liverpool was kinda bad. So, he [Klopp] thought, let's twist it all up. We will go for every ball, we will get every ball, then when we have it, we will go forward. Not in a stupid way, of course, if we can't go forward, then we keep the ball, twist it around (...). There is [tactical] football, it's not get the ball forwards." [basically saying not hoofball]

I: "You are someone, who rather keeps the ball, turns it around in the sides..."

D: "Before the match against Everton, in training there was a situation, when we were playing, running for like 5 minutes, and I kept the ball, passed it back, said that why aren't we going forward? Then, the others told me, we are not going forward, because we have been running for 5 minutes, let the opponent run some, while we keep the ball."

I: "It was reported, that when TAA started inverting to midfield, he would find this information [if he has to do this or not] a day before the match. This seems ??? (sorry, for some reason I cannot understand what he says). Is it the same for you, because sometimes you play as a 6, mostly when you are down to 10 men [Dominik chuckles at that], it seems your position on the field changes a lot. How soon do you find this out?"

D: "Our positions are discussed in the training before the match. But everything can happen, so it does change a lot."

I: What did Klopp tell you yesterday [in the game against Everton] at the 61th minute, when he called you over to you at the side of the pitch? Everton was very deep by then, defending 5-3 basically, leaving no place left in the midfield. Do you remember what he said (...)?"

D: "He told me to go forward, to be closer to Jota. If there is a ball, shoot."

I: "In Leipzig and the NT too, you are right in front of the pitch with the ball [meaning that he had the time and space to attack, move the ball], but now, you are playing as an 8, where you have seconds to find space between the lines, it's all very quick. Which styling play you prefer (...)"

D: " I don't like to play backwards to the net. I feel like I'm someone, who can see things, when facing the net, which others may not. It's an advantage I try to use as much as possible, to give myself a bigger space from the people, then I try 1 vs 1, or either with passes, but if I have to play between the lines, then I will do that."

I: "Do you have any preference where to play? [position vias] You said you like to be in front of the net, but sometimes, as an attacking 8, that's not possible."

D: "It depends on how I position myself. Whatever position I play, I can position myself in a way that it works out for me. I don't mind if I have to play deep, what matters to me is that I can turn, and see everything in front of me. Not when I get the ball, and there are people breathing down in my neck. I don't like that."

I: "But that happens a lot lately. (...). Sometimes you have to play as a double pivout."

D: " Yeah, it happens, when we feel like we can't get through them. Then, Trent goes to the right wing, and then Mac Allister and I can deal with the rest."

The interviewer then mentions the problems Trent faced last season, that Henderson used to help him out. Question that when he has to do the same [cover for Trent, when he inverts into the midfield] how automatic it is, if it comes naturally, or it's something Klopp drilled into him.

D: "No, it comes naturally to everyone, I think. If you see your RB struggling, you will go and help them. I'm not a good defender, but I know what I have to do in that 1,5 min I'm there."

Question about the connection between Klopp and Pep. He said, and it was reported as well, that he [Pep] invented this new position of TAA, and sometimes it's him who is in charge of the training too. Who comes up with the tactics, who tells them (...).

D: "We don't know who comes up with the tactics. Klopp is the one who tells us, and it's only him, who does the training before the match. Other trainings, Pep does it sometimes."

Question about Dominik's feelings and impression of Pep.

D: "He is good. I love him. He listens to everyone, we all listen to him. It's great to work with him."

About Haaland.

Haaland said his superpower is regeneration. Examples how he tapes his mouth, things like that. "He is a machine, a robot, says that about himself as well." Question if Dominik believes in the same stuff as well.

D: "I don't judge (lol), everyone does what they think it's the best for them. Back in Saltzburg, I meditated with him a few times, because we shared a room. First, I thought it was stupid, then I joined him, because why not. He used to wear those blue light glasses, I tried that one out too, he said it would help me sleep better... Well, you can only guess, if it worked out I would be wearing them still. It didn't help me. Maybe it didn't work out for me, because I didn't believe in it. He does a lot of other [regeneration] stuff, that people don't know about. I have been in his place, yeah it's a lot. He is a bit strange. [laughs]"

I: "Do you prefer heavy metal football or a possesion-based, slower stlye?"

D: Both, it depends. Maybe I prefer when I have the ball, and it's the opponent who has to run, not me, even if I can.

I: DC or Marvel?

D: Marvel.

I know Jousting is popular in the Crystal Empire what other sports are popular in your verse?

Buck Ball, of course!

San Franciscolt in particular really loves it and adores their team, The Miners! They have their own special stadium and everything.

Soccer- or hoofball- is also popular, although since ponies don't have hands, the rules regarding not using your hands with the ball is more so directed against using your mouths, magic, or flying.

Pegasi also have their own version of volleyball that they play in the mid-air, with clouds holding up the net and making up the boundaries. The size of the field is usually almost american football sized, but the boundaries are laid out like a giant cube. The ball can't go too high or too low, or it will be considered out. The rules are pretty much the same otherwise.

A lot of these are "how would ponies play human sports" - but I think those are the main ones I thought of.

OC-tober Crossover Episode

Twas the end of the work week, and Cover Story was looking forward to the big college hoofball game with his favorite team. For this game, he decided to go to his preferred watering hole in East Poneia and have a few ciders while watching the game.

Cover also managed to convince an acquaintance of his from the Crystal Empire to join him for a couple ciders and to watch the game with him. She came because she knew deep down, this game would affect her in some way.

Are you team Ellio Daybreaker? An unicorn who fell head over hills for his best friend since they were little colts?! All Ellio ever wanted was a simple life in the Midwest, to be a freelance artist, and to live happy ever after with his boyfriend (no x) Blaze Trotter, But Blaze seemed to have alternate ideas! After All Blaze lived a very complicated life, being the son of the tows mayor, Ellio just declared that they were boyfriends out of the blue one day, without him knowing, then acted all clingy around him in public! It's not like Blaze doesn't have strong feelings for Ellio! Hell he even embraced whatever they had and wanted to progress their relationship but Ellio was too much! he was ALWAYS! following him and giving blaze zero space! And totally freaked out! When Blaze kissed a female friend as a joke! It's not Blaze's fault that he soon started developing feelings for her! Ellio was also very rude to Blaze's father! Things had to change! So Blaze did what he had to!
