I really need to get this out of my mind so bear with me for a bit
I'm someone who enjoys a lot listening to music, it's a part of me and I would dare to say without it I can't function correctly. Just as it's a huge part of me, I think it's a part of everyone, more present in some than others(? I'll try to elaborate further on it.
It has been like this my whole life and I've learned that a song can influence your mood and even your way of thinking, hence, is a reflection of who you are. Still amazes me to this day. But anyway, what I came to say here is that, I think we don't value enough when someone gifts a song, written by them or by someone else, be in a serenade or just mentioning they thought of you when listening to it.
It's like saying "Hey, this form of expression I came across (or made), that i liked or disliked in some way, made me think of you, but also of me"
Why? because we felt the song, processed it, and came to the conclusion, those feelings and thoughts brought up were the same or similar to those when we are around or even thinking of that other person. It doesn't even have to be in a romantic way.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, gifting a song is a beautiful and deep way of acknowledging oneself and others, but is also underrated haha
So, with that in mind
Everytime I hear "Good Luck Babe" by Chappell Roan I can't help but think of you two, but mostly of Light
Individually, "Come As You Are" by Nirvana makes me think of L, if I had to describe you somehow, it would be with that song, or maybe "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
"AMG" by Natanael Cano x Gabito Ballesteros x Peso Pluma makes me think of Light, I'm not elaborating because it's self explanatory if you listen to it
-🐉
L:
the way you describe music really is beautiful... i wish i could experience it the same way you do. it sounds divine.
the songs you've listed are quite neat. "Come As You Are" was my favorite. thank you deeply for sharing them, especially with how personal music is for you.
i'm sorry i can't give much back in return. i care about music simply because it's self expression in its purest form. plus, it's an art form as well, and i prioritize art above everything.
however, i've never experienced a personal connection to it. there are songs that i hold dear to me, but those were never because of the music inherently. liking or disliking songs has always been more of a choice to me than something embedded in my dna. it sounds like an exquisite connection to have, you should continue cherishing it.
Light:
Personally, I don't much have a taste for music, but I did look up your song recommendations online, and I do enjoy the lyrics.
Probably my favourite line is from "Good Luck, Babe"--- 'You'd have to stop the world just to stop the feeling". Sometimes, it really does feel that way.
Anyways, I'll have to listen to these songs when I eventually get the time---so far, they do seem rather interesting.
I do agree that music is a wonderful thing, and if anyone ever recommends you a song and says this reminded me of you, it's certainly an honour. It's just that I don't really enjoy music myself, despite being a pianist. But I won't forget this---thanks, Anon. I really do appreciate it.

2020 content creator review
i was tagged by @vishcount as usual, thank you 💕 i answered the questions below the cut, and everyone that is tagged is there too, if you just wanna skip my ramblings and go straight down there. (also gosh i hope all the links work rip)
1. first creation and most recent creation of 2020:
this lan wangji oneshot, apparently. i can’t remember when i actually wrote it, but my ao3 tells me i posted it in january 2020. i remember i just wanted to explore lwj’s time of mourning and dive into his mind of that time, even if it made me eternally sad?
my most recent 2020 creation that is public, is the second chapter to this casmund/edmund character study fic i started writing in 2016. i did not expect to return to that but rewatching the narnia movies did that to me. i guess it’s one of those ever-returning fandoms
2. one of your favorite creations from 2020:
my niemo (nie huaisang/mo xuanyu) fic, no question. diving into this, i fully knew that this pairing probably has a tiny audience and honestly, i did not expect to churn out 30k for them. god. am still suffering because why the fuck did i do that to myself (and everyone reading). thank you vishie for standing by me all the time.
3. a new style you tried this year and a gifset edit that uses it:
my historical taegi AU set in silla korea - i don’t think it’s actually a new style writing-wise, but it was an entirely different process of creating. i did a week of only research, diving into amounts of academic texts and sources to figure out my frame and setting. it was so much fun and in the end, with everything i learned, it felt like the fic was only just the ‘by-product’ of my research. though i must say, writing the story itself was challenging in a very different way, by that i mean that the characters made me furious and yet i had to write it like that cause i like to suffer :)
as for gifset, am not sure? i can’t think of any so i am just linking the daechwita mv cause it’s iconic. i guess this mv is more joseon inspired, while my setting was silla somewhere between the end of 7th and beginning of 8th century; but it was the final straw to finally make me write that historical taegi au i always wanted to write with hwarang tae. also this mv inspired me to have yoongi as a tyrannical king cause why not amirite?
4. a creation to be proud of:
my wei wuxian oneshot during burial mounds; i had a lot of fun writing him and projecting all my nightmares onto him. i went in without a plan and ended up with something i am actually quite proud of? it gave me so much space and room to just...pour out my words and not worry too much about anything else.
5. a creation that took forever:
my post-canon wangxian adventure or qinghe chaos, as i lovingly call it. i think i started writing it in november 2019? not entirely sure about that, i only know it took ages. i wanted to create a whole new political environment, as it takes place somewhere around 70 years after canon (they wanna be immortal, shut up) and it was fun thinking of new challenges and new obstacles that face the new generation of cultivators. unfortunately i did not have the capacity to write a full blown political conflict. that’s why i never really incorporated all my thoughts into the story itself, but hey, if anyone has questions i have notes (and vishie, once again, is the most blessed person to plot with me, ily)
6. your creation from 2020 that received the most notes:
am gonna measure this by kudos on ao3 in that case, which would be the aforementioned lwj oneshot Cold Moon, Long Nights Moon. I feel incredibly fond of it and i’m really happy that people liked it. it feels special somehow and i just want to thank everyone who read that and liked it.
7. a creation you think deserved more notes:
oh i wrote many fics that year for smaller fandoms, which makes me grateful for every single feedback i received. i think i had hoped my previously mentioned historical AU would receive more, but it’s okay because i still loved it.
another one is this princess sook myung/ah roh fic that i wrote for my ‘make hwarang gay again’ series. i finally finished this show and it furstrated me so much - the gay potential that went to waste, the horrendous writing for female characters. i liked the chemistry between ah roh and the princess, and yes i get it, it’s a rare pair and this fandom is kinda dead, but. the girls deserve their shine and love (though still, i am grateful for every single kudos i receive and i am still proud of it)
8. a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it:
i joined many new fandoms this year for which i wrote, but i want to mention my shang xirui character study for winter begonia, because it was very interesting to explore that? and i had fun too, it was one of the first things i properly wrote after my hiatus, so i felt quite proud. also once again, this fandom has way too little content and the show is underrated.
9. a creation you made that breaks your heart:
i wanna mention two here. first is this wen ning & song lan oneshot that was a pure joy and also very sad to write. i just love these two so much, and i love them together even more. i have many thoughts how much comfort they could give each other and believe me, i have many more that i want to explore in the future.
the second one is the mu nihuang & xiao jingyan oneshot i wrote for the nirvana in fire gift exchange 2020. it broke my heart, but at the same time it felt like something was healing too? it hurt at the pain both characters go through, but i also felt fond that maybe, they were not alone.
10. a ‘simple’ creation that you really love:
hmm there are a few, i mostly want to mention my fei liu character study? it has no plot or anything, it is just an exploration of his mind and thoughts, which was an absolute joy to write and somehow so easy.
i also quite like the yyy series i started - maybe i can write more for these two because they somehow give me the feels.
11. a favorite creation created by someone else:
alright here we go folks:
first i want to mention my dearest @vishcount because newsflash!!! i am the biggest fan. of course i need to mention your wondeful, stunning, breathtaking masterpiece that is your xicheng novel (and yes it is a novel, i say so). it is still ongoing and you started it in 2019, but i need to mention it here because it truly is something that is lifechanging. i feel so blessed that i get the front seats and vip access to all the updates, to all your thoughts and ideas. you go through a lot with it and i am never not proud of you ❤️ another one i want to mention is this wei wuxian & mo xuanyu oneshot you wrote for me because i am still crying about it. i have no words. honourable mentions: your easter islanders (lan wangji and jiang cheng) and this xicheng soulmate au
another creator i want to mention is @the-cloud-whisperer and their nirvana in fire fic Heroic Woman(烈婦) , which is absolutely wonderful. i found you through your ATLA fics (which i adore) and saw you posting about nirvana in fire and this year, finally, i watched the show and was blown away. i love your other NIF fics too, but this one feels very special because i always thought li yang’s character was so incredibly fascinating. thank you for writing this 💕
for more other creations just look at my bookmarks on ao3, there is the untamed, nirvana in fire, yyy the series, hwarang, winter begonia and original sin (from 2020 and many more if you scroll further) please give everyone i mentioned love!!!!!
12. your favorite content creators and blogs that you appreciate:
oh boy here we go. once again @vishcount, @the-cloud-whisperer, @intyalote, @sassyassassy, @isabellaofparma, @passionpeachy, @finny-red, @guzhuangheaven @honeyiling, @holmesandwhatson @bloody-bee-tea, @leoyunxi, @gusucloud, @ohsehuns and many many more that must slip my mind.
all of you, consider yourself tagged in this game and even if we never spoke to each other, i greatly appreciate all of you and i want to give some love. if you feel like doing this, i hope you can have fun! 💕
#phew#another one done#all my usual suspects must be tired of me dfghj#but this is so lovely and fun#thanks dear#tag game#personal#2020#writing

Could You Marry Me? - Part 7 (Final)
Summary: Marriage was something you dreamed of reaching after falling in love with the man of your dreams. Yet the romantic in you is thrown out the window when you end up having to fake your engagement with your personal assistant.
Pairing: Son Hyunwoo x reader
Genre: office au / ceo x personal assistant / co-workers to lovers au / romance / fluff / fake dating
Warnings: none
Index: Preview | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
“I don’t want to marry you.”
Hyunwoo blinked, stunned by your response. You were equally as surprised with how easy it was to admit it, considering everything lately had been leading up to walking down the aisle. Shifting towards him after placing down the cooking utensil, you took a deep breath. “I mean, I don’t want to marry you right now.”
He visibly relaxed then, nodding in simple acceptance. Turning off the soup and then taking you over to sit at the small table in your house, Hyunwoo soon returned with the meal and sat down across from you. And then he waited for you to direct the conversation much like he had that fateful day when you both signed your marriage contract. Today, however, you were hoping for this to end with a mutual conversation and nothing to sign in the end.
“I thought I regretted lying to Mina about having a fiancé. Of course, it would have been more practical to tell the truth and not end up in this situation. But had I not gone through with it to this level, well, would I be this clued on to why I like you?” you explained and a small smile played upon Hyunwoo’s lips. He was enjoying this, and you wondered how long he had wished to hear this from you. Hyunwoo didn’t say anything however, allowing you to continue. “I don’t know when it started but I became aware there was a reason I was rejecting everyone I was set up with on the blind dates.”
“They weren’t me.”
It wasn’t a question. Hyunwoo had stated the facts as if it was a simple task to do so. As you stared back at him, you realised to him it was. Hyunwoo really was that straight-forward.
It made you roll your eyes all the same. “How do you know that?”
“Are you going to refute it?” he asked and you huffed out in response. He chuckled. “Who else would be able to assist you as well as I do?”
“It’s not even that,” you stated and Hyunwoo’s humour eased off. “Sure, you make my working life extremely functional. And I’m always impressed with your endless array of talents. But outside of work, you’re just really warm to me. I don’t need you to assist me; I just want you to be at my side.”
“You’re really direct with your words today,” he mentioned, a tinge of colour invading his cheeks.
“You can’t be the only one who gets the fun in stating everything with ease.”
You shared a smile with one another before Hyunwoo gestured to the breakfast he had made. Although eating came as a natural digression from the conversation, the way you looked at one another over the meal confirmed that there was something here that needed to be further explored. After breakfast was completed, Hyunwoo stood in your doorway, reluctant to leave. You knew he had a lot more to say.
But he also needed to change his clothes.
“You know, we went to all that effort to fool Mina by having all those items for you around my home but the one thing we forgot was clothing in the wardrobe,” you told him, scuffing your slippered foot over the landing to your entryway.
Hyunwoo grinned. “Should I bring some back with me?”
“When will you come back?”
“You didn’t freak out by me saying that,” he mentioned and you leaned towards him, kissing his lips briefly. When you pulled away, you relished in seeing the unravelling of the man in front of you.
“You didn’t freak out about me kissing you just now either,” you told him with a giggle, Hyunwoo blinking slowly out of his stupor.
He gave you a stern look. “You’re playing with fire. I’m not always just going to let you lead, Y/N.”
“I’m hopeful that you’ll step out of the subordinate role more often.”
“Even at work?”
You shook your head. “I don’t know if letting everyone know that it’s you who makes me proactive in life would be beneficial towards our clients, don’t you?”
“Behind every successful woman is her man, huh?” he concluded and you wrapped your arms around his neck, nodding happily. “I’m yours?”
“You signed a contract, didn’t you?”
“I thought you didn’t want to go ahead with that anymore,” he claimed, sizing your lips up all the same.
“When you said you wanted to marry someone who you planned to spend the rest of your life with, you meant me, right?”
“You are the only person I want to marry, Y/N. I just had hoped I would be the first to propose.”
Whilst you didn’t exactly come clean to Mina about your fake engagement, you did tell her that you had cancelled the wedding with Hyunwoo. You had worried over her reaction for a couple of days before telling her, knowing the woman would retreat from your side. And she did. If anything, you were actually relieved. The world and acceptance you had craved from Mina was never one that you had really needed. Finally, you felt free to be whoever you wanted to be, and not worry about the opinions of others. You had based so much on that temporary connection, when in reality you were just as successful in your own path in life. You didn’t need the approval of someone else to be you.
Your families were actually thrilled with the delay of your nuptials too, and your mother rejoiced at having a lot longer to execute the perfect wedding. So did you. Knowing that you only planned on marrying Hyunwoo once, it was definitely a priority to ensure it was the most magical moment of your life.
But so was getting to know your fiancé more.
Neither Hyunwoo or yourself decided to drop back to the basics in dating. You did have a really long engagement though. You dated, you learned, you travelled together and you fell in love. Well, more in love. Because you were certain you had loved Hyunwoo right from the beginning of the contract when he accepted your proposal.
Speaking of which, he ripped the contract up as soon as it was established your fake relationship had ended. And he had promised to propose to you properly one day when he was sure you were ready for it.
And even though you prepared for the event every now and then over the next year, wondering when he would pop the question, you were totally not ready for it. Once again you had underestimated how efficient he was when it came to knowing the insides of your brain and heart. You were certain that the dramas you had perused over the years had nothing on how special you felt in the moment when he went down on one knee in front of you.
Today would top that moment, however.
“Where’s the veil?!” Tanith cried, darting around the suite in a panic looking for the item. You pointed to where the bag sat on the table across from you and directed your frazzled maid of honour’s attention to it. Once holding it in her hand, she returned to your side, glancing up at you. “How are you this calm? Where are your pre-wedding jitters? Why am I the only one panicking here?!”
“Mum actually has a bottle of wine in the other room right now that she’s poured a glass for herself from so I don’t think you’re the only one who’s nervous.”
Tanith eyed you cautiously. “But you’re not nervous? Is this the calm before the storm?”
“No,” you replied with a laugh, shaking your head softly. “There is going to be no storm today.”
“You’re really calm about this?” Tanith repeated, and you gave her a look. “Aren’t most brides worried at this point in the schedule of their special day? What if you trip going down the aisle to Hyunwoo?”
“He’ll catch me.”
“Or you fumble over your words?”
You grinned. “He’ll probably prompt me with what I’m meant to say instead.”
“Well, I guess since he is so efficient, you would feel at ease.”
“There is the knowledge that Hyunwoo is the most reliable human I will ever know, but it’s not that at all. I’m just ready.”
“Ready?”
You nodded, smiling again. Touching the lush fabric that adorned your body, you blinked back your emotions before turning back to your best friend. “I’m ready to be his wife.”
When the signal that it was time came, you stepped out into the hallway where you greeted your father, smiling widely at the paternal figure who was now shedding tears. You gripped his hand encouragingly as you waited to step in behind everyone else, if anything, now excited to see Hyunwoo waiting for you at the other end.
The music began as you stepped into the venue and you briefly watched as your guests all stood to see you walk in. As soon as you found Hyunwoo’s stare however, you forgot all about everyone else around you. It took all your effort not to race down the path before you and collide against him. He seemed to share this thought and chuckled a little, blinking back his emotions at seeing you like this before him.
And whilst you were so used to seeing him in suits now, you decided this was your favourite one yet.
When your hand was transferred from your father’s to your impending husband’s, you felt as if you had stepped into Nirvana. All these years of having Hyunwoo at your side as your personal assistant and then your fiancé were pretty magical.
But having your happily ever after with your husband as soon as you said I do?
It was the best kind of contract you would ever make.
“Do you need a hand there, Mrs Son?” You spun to see your husband approach you, his hands reaching for the myriad of laces, zips and hooks that strapped you into this elegant dress. As his nimble fingers helped you out of your gown, his lips fell to your exposed shoulder, chuckling into the sensitive part of your neck a moment later. “Even as newlyweds, you still need me to assist you with everything.”
Once you knew you could finish it off, you turned, facing Hyunwoo and reaching out for the buttons on his shirt. “I’m sure you need my help with this as well.”
“Are you saying you will assist me now too?” he asked and you hid your smile, shrugging lightly. “Only when it suits you?”
“Well, you are so exceptionally good at what you do and I have my own roles in life too. You can’t expect me to suddenly change and assist you when I’m so used to leading.”
“Huh.”
You grinned up at your husband teasingly, palming his now exposed chest with your hands. God, he was always so warm. “But I did mean what I said earlier. I’ll make you the happiest man on this earth as your wife.”
“You already did that before marriage. You need to offer something more,” he bargained and you gaped at him, your mind hurrying to bring forth a response. He chuckled again, leaning down to kiss your lips. “Do you need me to prompt you?”
“I’ll carry our children,” you blurted out and Hyunwoo visibly faltered.
“You’re… you’re ready for that already?”
“Well, I mean, when the time-”
“Oh no, if that’s the offer you’re giving me for my assistance,” he started, scooping you and the volume of your gown up into his embrace before continuing, a smirk laced within his remaining words. “I’ll make sure that you fulfil your obligations as well as I do.”
Marrying your personal assistant wasn’t something you had ever imagined initially. But you couldn’t think of anyone better suited for the job.
The End.

imma ask this once:
are we happy with how Sly 3 ended?
let’s chat about it.
emotional impact: like most of y’all (i’m assuming), the series has a special place in my heart because i grew up playing it. so initially, i wasn’t ok with the ending. looking at all those final fantasy games and kingdom hearts whatever get like 18 sequels each, i thought 3 entires in the Sly series just wasn’t enough (also considering the fact that Sly 2 gave us like 8 levels and Sly 3 reduced that down to 5, excluding Honour Among Thieves). as a lil young bih, i was so distraught by this shortage of Sly games that i didn’t even give the ending a chance and immediately cancelled it (and when i say ‘lil young bih’ i’m referring to ages 6-18 because i recall ranting about the ending multiple times on this cottdamn website). in retrospect, i was just upset, and after taking other elements into consideration i realised that my emotions clouded my judgement, for better or for worse.
Sly 3 as a game: now, all that being said... Sly 3, in my opinion, is the weakest entry in the series. i’ve already expressed my issues with the game so i’ll keep it brief. imagine if Sly 2 ended with Clock-La smashing Sly instead of Bentley and Sly got amnesia, leading to the Sly 3 ending... we’d like to have another game but we’d be content with what we got. because Sly 2 is an amazing game. Sly 3 on the other hand... felt rushed. with the absence of clue bottles, the lacklustre hubs, the small number of levels and some more mediocrities, the game didn’t build itself up to support its ending. so the ending feels overbearing in some ways. i’ve mentioned time and time again how, in an attempt to cram so much into a single game (new characters, new lore, new gameplay), SP didn’t really develop any of the new features. and then came the end and we were hoping to get at least one more level, an intricate journey through an un-sunken Cooper Vault, maybe some more Guru gameplay, some Penelope gameplay??? but that was that, i guess.
the ending itself: so after analysing the other aspects, let’s break down the ending itself. Sly supposedly gets amnesia. hmmm ok i guess it was the only possible way to get with Carmelita, even though it was kind of a dick move. i’m fine with that. a huge theme in the game is legacy and i’m guessing after seeing how the ancestors left their legacies in a sinking cave, Sly didn’t want to just leave his whole life encapsulated on a portrait surrounded by some loot. the kid wanted more and to his defence, he was a maverick. Bentley gets with Penelope and they lead a life of tech..... predictable but ok. it was about time the nerd got something in return for all his efforts. as a sentimentalist, i especially like the fact that he dedicated his life to maintaining the Cooper Vault, even though (as i’m typing this) i don’t really know what that says about him. it kinda reversed SP’s attempt to make him an individual instead of Sly’s subordinate. tragic. i’m not ok with Murray’s ending. when the writers initially pitched the idea for Murray’s character, they mentioned that he was a bisexual hippo or something. now i might be a queer but i’m not into that SJW RePrEsEnTaTiOn goo ga. that being said, i’d like to see Murray find some inner nirvana. we spent the first two levels of the game exploring how Murray struck peace during his time with the Guru.... just for him to end up as a race car driver or whatever the fuck? i guess there’s method in madness, how he found happiness by something so chaotic... but it’s boring. it was like... what did Murray do during all 3 games? drive the gang around. so it only makes sense if we have him do that for the rest of his life, right? yea i don’t think so....
lemme clear my thoughts up for you: what i originally thought was a bad ending due to my emotional outrage, turns out was a meh ending due to a lacklustre game. but it supplies closure. personally, i’d much prefer if Sly and the gang continued doing what they do. but ending the series on that note would defo lack closure. whereas the ending we got, although very not-Sly, closed the series on a positive note. everyone got what they wanted and what they wanted wasn’t what they initially thought. everyone’s happy. and they even leave us some hint for the future by having Bentley mention that he’s building a time machine, even though i don’t know why anyone would possibly think that’d be a good idea for a future game.........
#a lawful neutral essay no one was expecting#i'm using the lawful neutral chaotic in my everyday vocabulary nowadays#sly cooper#let me in on your thoughts tbh

28: take a shot every time i mention taylor swift
AC/DC - What are your favorite bands? - Of Monsters and Men, Sleeping At Last, The Lumineers.
Aerosmith - What are your favorite songs? - Oh boy. There's a lot but these are the ones I'll never be able to get over: All Too Well by Taylor Swift, Exile by Taylor Swift ft Bon Iver, Wild Heart by Bleachers, Saturdays by Twin Shadow, Wild Roses by Of Monsters and Men, Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, Every Breath You Take by The Police, Robbers by The 1975, Hunger by Of Monsters and Men, and Sleep On The Floor by The Lumineers
Aretha Franklin - Do you have a favorite jazz song? - No, I don't really listen to jazz
Alice Cooper - What is your favorite type of music? - I mostly gravitate to folk/alternative, pop, country-pop, and singer-songwriter genres (I like a little bit of EDM too depending on the song).
Beach Boys - Have you ever been in a concert? - I've never been to a concert of someone I super duper admired, but I've been to a Jonas Brothers concert when I was ten lol and then Marianas Trench when I was 15 which I remember being a pretty good show.
Black Sabbath - A song that motivates you? - Shake It Off by Taylor Swift gets me in a good mood
Bob Dylan - Do you know how to play any musical instrument? - No lol. I tried to learn how to play guitar but I just don't really have any sense of rhythm at all lmao
Bon Jovi - Your favorite song about love? - Can't Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis Presley (and various cover artists) has always been a favourite of mine.
The Beatles - Latest song that made you smile? - Mr Perfectly Fine by Taylor Swift bc it's peak sassy teenage taylor
David Bowie - A song that makes you feel happy? - again, probably Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, but also Truth Hurts by Lizzo
Eric Clapton - Have you ever been in love with a rock artist? - No
Creedence Clearwater Revival - What is your favorite instrument? - I really like the sound of an acoustic guitar, but also the violin is so beautiful. (Honourable mentions: Fiddle, Banjos, cellos)
Deep Purple - Do you prefer bassists or drummers? - I don't have an opinion, really, but maybe bassists?
The Doors - What is your favorite lyric? - "If I can't relate to you anymore then who am I related to?" from Coney Island by Taylor Swift and The National. I have so many favourite lyrics though. Also "I'm not your homeland anymore so what am I defending now?" from Exile (also by Taylor lol)
Fleetwood Mac - Female or Male vocalists? - Both have different, unique things to offer, but I guess female vocalists.
The Grateful Dead - What song are you listening right now? - Nothing right now. I usually can't focus when musics on because I just end up singing along or getting distracted lol
Guns n’ Roses - What song describes your emotions right now? - I'm somewhere in between Mirrorball by Taylor Swift, Reasons Not To Die by Ryn Weaver, and Wild Roses by Of Monsters and Men.
Heart - Do you know a song that you want at your wedding? - Yes! Tbh I want to have a playlist of love songs played during the reception at my wedding lol. I think I want to walk down the aisle to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri (maybe the piano guys version tho) and I want the first dance to be Lover by Taylor Swift or Can't Help Falling In Love by Kina Grannis
Iron Maiden - Do you frequently listen to your songs on shuffle? - Mostly, I do. I don't usually know what I'm in the mood for unless I've had something stuck in my head or a new song has come out so I usually just play shuffle until I know what I feel like listening to.
Jimi Hendrix - A song that represents “your aesthetic” - Love by Lana Del Rey, just that very soft, breezy, dreamy aesthetic.
Joan Jett - Who do you think when you listen to your favorite love song? - I'm not usually thinking of anyone in particular because I don't have anyone like that in my life, but I'm usually imagining a scenario to write about.

Journey - Do you have any famous crushes? - Not crazy insane crushes and I currently don't have a crush on any singers, but some celebrities I find attractive are Matthew Daddario, Henry Cavill, etc. Lol I'm too tired to think but those are the first that pop in my head.
The Kinks - What is the last single you downloaded? - Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo
Kiss - What is the perfect song to describe your relationship with your boyfriend/girlfriend/crush? - I don't have any of those right now lol but a song that represents a relationship between two characters I've written is Half of my Heart by John Mayer
Led Zeppelin - Do you like loud guitar solos? - Sometimes if they hit right
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Do you like instrumental songs? - No, I'm a lyrics girl. Sometimes they're nice, but I'm not one to actively put that on.
Metallica - A song that you think everybody should listen to? - Coney Island by Taylor Swift ft The National because the lyrics are *chefs kiss* and if that one isn't your vibe then Exile by TS ft Bon Iver (basically please go stream folklore and evermore)
Nirvana - A song that breaks your heart? - You Said You'd Grow Old With Me by Michael Schulte
Pink Floyd - Name your top three songs in any language. - currently my top 3s are (all ts songs obvi bc she's all i've listened to for months on end) cowboy like me by taylor swift, coney island by taylor swift ft the national, and exile by taylor swift ft bon iver (have i mentioned taylor swift enough yet)
Pearl Jam - A song to drive to? - Getaway Car by Taylor Swift
Queen - A song to dance to? - Stealing the show once again, Shake It Off by Taylor Swift
Bruce Springsteen - A song that you would sing in a karaoke? - just put on anything taylor swift and i will scream the lyrics
The Rolling Stones - Your favorite album? - Red by Taylor Swift (but evermore by ts is quickly stealing the show)
U2 - A artist/band you’re proud of? - Taylor Swift bc of how she literally overcomes everything no matter what kind of bs people say or throw her way.
Van Halen - Favorite guitarist? - I don't really have one
The Who - Favorite bassist? - Again, don't have one
Yes - Favorite drummer? - and i oop
Dusty Springfield - Do you have a favorite soul song? - I don't really listen to soul.
The Supremes - Your favorite girlband? - Haim
Simon and Garfunkel - Your favorite acoustic song? - Free Fallin by John Mayer (tom petty cover) or fast car by tracy chapman
Derek & The Dominos - Do you prefer a cover more than the original song? - Sometimes, depending on what the cover brings. Sometimes I'll like both. For example Circles by Post Malone is a song I already love but Of Monsters and Men did an amazing cover of that one and made it even sadder and I'm obsessed with both.
The Mamas and The Papas - What’s the song that have a harmony so good that makes you want to punch something? - the bridge in driver's license
Santana - Your favorite artist hairstyle? - Taylor Swift is obviously my favourite artist if you hadn't noticed and my favourite hairstyle from her was probably her short hair during 1989 when it was to her shoulders, but I also really like her Lover era hair (medium-length with bangs)
Ramones - Do you like punk music? - Not really
The Temptations - A song that you liked when you were younger? - Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis lol
Cream - A song that you associate with summer? - August by Taylor Swift. (Also I associate 1975's entire 2012 album with summer for some reason)
The Band - A song that you never get tired of? - All Too Well by Taylor Swift
Steve Miller Band - A song that need to be played out loud? - Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift
Sonny & Cher - A song by an artist with a voice that you love? - Organs by Of Monsters and Men
Wings - A song that makes you remind of yourself? - She's Got Her Ticket by Tracy Chapman

A Complete List of Songs from the Skulduggery Pleasant Series
The full list of songs is under the cut. They’re listed in the order they appear in the books, and include quotes from the book and links to the songs on youtube. I’ve also compiled all the the songs on playmoss.
Sceptre of the Ancients:
The Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner
Stephanie was woken the next morning by the stereo playing very loudly indeed. Her dad had been trying to tune into a news station and the volume knob had snapped off, so instead of a quiet little traffic report they were treated to Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries at full blast.
The Girl From Ipanema
They were working their way towards each other when Stephanie came to a door and heard a low whistling. She frowned. Could Skulduggery whistle? He could talk without lips or breath, so she couldn't see a reason why he wouldn't be able to whistle. She didn't recognise the tune, however. She motioned to Ghastly and he crept forward. After listening for a moment, he nodded." That's 'The Girl From Ipanema'," he whispered. "That's him."
Playing With Fire:
The End of the World - The Carpenters
At the end of the corridor was a living room. Music played. "The End of the World," by the Carpenters.
The Faceless Ones:
Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy
He dad had been a big Thin Lizzy fan back in the 1970s, and whenever 'Whiskey in the Jar' came on the radio, he'd sing along, albeit tunelessly.
Eat the Rich - Aerosmith
At first, she thought he was humming an ancient chant, something to elevate his conscious to a higher plane. Then she recognised the first few bars of 'Eat he Rich', by Aerosmith, and she stopped trying to guess what he was doing.
Killer on the Loose - Thin Lizzy
The Phil Lynott figure shrugged, then looked down at the Administrator, and right before the door sealed, she heard it start to sing 'Killer on the Loose'.
Dark Days:
Dry Bones
Valkyrie sighed and him while he finished putting his leg back together, and a muttered rendition of 'Dry Bones' followed her down the steps.
Crazy - Patsy Cline
A tune filled the air - a terrible, shrill version of Patsy Cline's 'Crazy'. That’ll be them now,” Sanguine said, taking out his phone.
+
Then she took out Scarab’s phone and pressed redial. From somewhere else in the house, she heard Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’.
Myosis Terra (Armageddon Outta Here):
Be My Baby - The Ronettes
“I’ll help you.” Then he threw his head back and started singing. “Stop,” she hissed. “Shush!” His eyes were closed, and he sang louder. It was ‘Be My Baby’, by the Ronettes. Her mum used to sing that to her all the time when she was a kid.
Mortal Coil:
Good King Wenceslas
He knocked taking out his gun. ‘If anyone asks, we’ re scary carollers. ’ Humming good king Wenceslas to himself he knocked again.
There’s a Kind of Hush - The Carpenters
Music began to play. He knew the group, it was The Carpenters, but he wasn’t sure of the name of the song.‘There’s a Kind of Hush’ perhaps. The last song the Torment would ever hear.
Deathbringer:
People Are Strange
Now...I don’t know. Do you really think someone killed him because of the Passage? Are there people out there who really believe in this stuff?” “People are strange,” said the girl, then started humming a few bars from the song.
Negative Vibes - Damien Dempsey
He turned down the music when he saw Kenny. Damien Dempsey was playing - ‘Negative Vibes’. “Are you Finbar?” Kenny asked.
We’re Off to See the Wizard
They seemed to recognise Clarabelle, and she asked them for directions and they continued on, with Clarabelle singing ‘We’re Off to See the Wizard’.
The End of the World:
(Presumably) Hedwig’s Theme from Harry Potter
Through the gap in the books could see somone in the next aisle over, moving slowly. Someone in black. Someone whistling. Ryan recognised the tune. It was the theme music to Harry Potter.
Kingdom of the Wicked:
Big Bad Handsome Man - Imelda May
Valkyrie yawned, turned on the radio. An Imelda May Song was playing - ‘Big Bad Handsome Man’. Valkyrie started signing along. She’d just gottn to the bit about his rugged good looks when Skulduggery came crashing through the cafe window.
Apple of My Eye - Damien Dempsey
She took out her phone. “How about we play some music instead. I’m thinking ‘Apple of my Eye’. Do you have Damien Dempsey in this dimension?”
Me and Mrs Jones
She smiled. “No thank you. You can sing me a lullaby if you want.” And that’s what he did. In a voice so soft it barely reached her through the darkness, he sang her ‘Me and Mrs Jones’, and she fell asleep to his voice.
Get Thee Behind Me, Bubba Moon (Armageddon Outta Here):
Airwolf
Ahead of us, around the next corner, another light flickered, and I heard the sound of a helicopter’s rotor blades before it was replaced by synthesiser music. I recognised it immediately as the theme tune to Airwolf.
The Maleficent Seven:
Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins
Rooftops and chimneys, that’s all there was to see from up here. The whole thing reminded Sanguine of that scene from Mary Poppins where Dick Van Dyke starts dancing about with all those chimney sweeps high over London town. He wondered if Springheeled Jack ever took time to dance about chimney sweep, singing as they went. Probably not, if he were being honest. Still, it was something to wonder as he waited there, whistling ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ and keeping watch for Cleavers.
Give Peace A Chance
That might have been what did it. Surrounding herself with flower people and singing ‘Give Peace a Chance’ at Vietnam rallies might have been the thing she needed to plant the seed in her head that maybe, just maybe, she didn’t want to send the rest of her life killing people.
Carry On My Wayward Son
She hadn’t heard of most of them. She hadn’t heard of most of them. Carry On My Wayward Son came on the radio and they sang along with it.
Last Stand of Dead Men:
The Rocky Road to Dublin - The Dubliners
Music played. As Laken Cross climbed the stairs into the tattoo parlour, he worked to identify the song. He’d been to a lot of places in his lifetime, been around the world and back again, and he’d heard a lot of music. This one reminded him of nights spent in Irish pubs - the old Irish pubs, where there’d been a trad band playing every night and everyone would take their turn to sing ‘The Rocky Road to Dublin’, that was it, by The Dubliners.
Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
“Shut up. My turn to pose the riddle. Who sang ‘Hit Me Baby One more Time’?” Lamour frowned. “Pardon?” “Who sang it?” “That is your riddle?” “Yep.” “But that’s not a riddle, that is a...” “You don’t know do you?”
Shake A Tail Feather - Ray Charles
For the first time Stephanie became aware of music playing. ‘Shake a Tail Feather’ by Ray Charles. Gun drawn, Skulduggery led the way out of the bedroom Stephanie right behind him. They got to the living room, with it;s tatty armchairs and battered couch, awful 1970s wallpaper, a painting of a ship on a stormy sea, an old cracked TV, a record player... and in the middle of the room Scapegrace and Thrasher and some old Chinese man, dancing to the music.
The Dying of the Light:
Spancill Hill - The Dubliners
Winter’s come, and it’s a slow day, and cold and Danny is in the backroom strumming on is guitar, a battered old six-string he’s had since he was fourteen. Inspired by Stephanie, he's singing 'Spancill Hill' by the Dubliners.
(Presumably) Let it Go from Frozen
As she wheeled them, Clarabelle hummed that song from Frozen. Thrasher started humming along with her and Scapegrace glared at him.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
They followed him to the street. A small child sat in the middle of the empty road, head raised to the night sky. He was singing to himself, his soft voice carrying on the breeze. “Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are...” “Right,” said Gracious. “Because that’s not creepy at all.”
My Lovely Horse from Father Ted
She smacked it into her open palm a few times, and all at once the sound came back on, just as Gordon was launching int the chorus of 'My Lovely Horse' from Father Ted. “OK,” she said, “I can hear you. Stop singing.”
Accentuate the Positive
"What's that song you're always whistling? 'Accentuate the Positive'?" "I have literally whistled that once since you've known me"
+
"What? What about everything you were saying earlier about accentuating the positive?" "Again, you brought up that particular song."
Don’t You Want Me - The Human League
The radio has been on for the last hour. Eighties pop. Gant has probably had enough of Listening to Jeremiah. Now ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by the Human League Plays. Danny listens to it in the darkness over the Cadillac’s engine.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
She stopped someone was whistling. Ennio Morricone - the theme from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Black Cleaver looked round. Billy-Ray Sanguine stood beneath the flickering light, whistling, one hand in his pocket, the other dangling by his leg, holding the God-Killer weapon.
Honourable Mentions:
Several other artists are mentioned in the book series, but aren’t include in the list above because there wasn’t a song specified. E.g.
Finbar wears a Stiff Little Fingers T-shirt in The Faceless Ones.
Finbar also wears a Thin-Lizzy T-shirt in Deathbringer.
The ice cream van Thrasher and Scapegrace drive in Deathbringer plays music by Popeye.
In the Maleficent Seven Tanith mentions her brother introduced her to Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong.
Tanith also mentions she used to listen to Nina Simone, Elvis, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Robert Plant, and David Bowie. And that she doesn’t listen to Pat Boone, Nirvana, Curve or Jeff Buckley.
Mr. Bliss listens to an opera by The Three Tenors in The Maleficent Seven.
Valkyrie’s family sing a modified version of Happy Birthday in Last Stand of Dead Men.
In Last Stand of Dead Men Valkyrie dances and sings along to a song by Pixie Lott.
In Last Stand of Dead Men Valkyrie also asks Cassandra if she was taught to play the guitar by Jimi Hendrix. Cassandra says it was Angelo Bartolotti who taught her.
In The Dying of the Light Danny mentions his mom loved The Human League, Duran Duran and Erasure, and his dad loved Led Zepplin, Rush and Sabbath.
#if you think i've missed any please let me know#but i'm fairly confident i got them all#///#skulduggery pleasant

Rules are: “Tag 9 people you want to get to know better!”
relationship status: single and rather sick of it
last song/music I listened to: “On the Street where You Live", from My Fair Lady
top 3 shows: I rarely watch TV shows... Nirvana in Fire is the best drama ever made. If anime is included, then Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Kill la Kill would be the best I guess. Honourable mention goes to The Smoke for giving us Dennis.
top 3 characters: I always list protagonists so here's a list with no protagonists in it (although that is somewhat arguable lmao): Hatake Kakashi, Dennis Edward Severs, Prince Jing aka Xiao Jingyan.
top 3 ships: KakaNaru, Hartwin, Jingsu

G.E.T. - Chapter 6
“Bricks,” Miles said. “Today was one of the most important days during the whole introduction month and you even managed to fail that grandiosely. I’m disappointed to see such failure in my corps. If only you had performed better… or was it the fault of your Parents? Didn’t your Parent, the one who helps you through this time, guide you? Didn’t your Parent teach you manners and teach you how to address us, the Court of Honours and how to address your Parent properly? Parents – do you want to see your children succeed in our beautiful students’ corps Nirvana? …Then why, why in the hell is that not even one Brick could successfully accomplish the assignment we, as the Court of Honours, gave you? Was it really that hard to tell your children not to screw up? Is that it? I’m deeply sorry for this, Parents of the Seven Heavenly Children, but I have to punish you as well. But don’t worry – your children may participate in it as well. The first punishment will be… to publicly shame yourselves. Children will have to throw balloons filled with substances from who knows where at you. Hopefully that will learn your children we are serious – and there’s a chance of losing your Parent because he or she can’t keep up with your stupid, ill-minded and awful efforts. If your children seem to enjoy themselves, we may call them up to the stand as well. I hope nobody will enjoy it – because this is a serious matter. You basically make them feel inferior, less motivated and worst case scenario – they will abandon you. If you become an outcast – you can say farewell to Nirvana. Yes, we may haven’t mentioned it during our pitches given by the PromoSion – but we are free to neglect you from a membership to Nirvana if we feel you don’t take this seriously. If we feel you are not worth the effort to safe. Not worth the effort for any of us. Remember this well, Bricks. Your Parents are there to help you and it pains me to do this to them – the ones who make time for you – take care of and cherish you.”
Miles and the other judges walked off the stage to the other side of the hall.
“Will parent 1 and her children step forward on the stage?” Judge Francis Vendetta, Judge of Jesters, said. “The balloon bringers will bring you the balloons in buckets. These balloons will have to be thrown at your parent. Show her what failures she raised and that even you – her children – oppose her even though she put so much effort in to prevent you from doing ridiculous actions.”
The children picked up the balloons out of the bucket and threw it towards their parent.
“Oh my god, can’t you just do it right?” Simon snarled. “We just have to memorise all the songs we’ve learned this past week and sing it to the Order Commission. Come on!”
“Don’t be so hard on us, Simon. We’re trying our best here as well,” Marlena defended.
“But doing our best isn’t clearly our strongest suit. I’m sick of being snarled and punished at because some of us just screw things up all the time!”
“That’s enough, Simon. We’re all here at fault,” Will interfered. “Alright, so how about this? We split our group in smaller groups. The people who don’t know the seven songs well, should come with me and the ones who know the songs well – should rehearse with the others who know it as well.”
“Well, yeah, then I guess only me and Wayne are the ones who have to rehearse with each other – because the others don’t know shit.”
“Come on, Simon. They are your brothers and sisters – please don’t degenerate them.”
“I’ll give it a try whenever they are ready. This is just ridiculous.” Simon walks away and gave Wayne a signal to follow him. Wayne was still grinning this whole time and gladly walked after Simon. They talked to each other in the distance.
“Alright, kiddos. So how about we rehearse one more time?” Will proposed. “I have heard some of you still have difficulties with the text and the tone you have to sing. So here are the points I have jolted down.”
Will began to sing some parts of the songs the Bricks had to learn. First of all they had to learn Nirvana’s students’ corps song. It is the most important song the Bricks have to learn and this song is often sung at the start of each activity week. It is to uphold the pride as a Nirvanian. The second song that is taught is of course the Judge’s song that needs to be sung whenever the Judges make their appearance and take their leave. The third song is dedicated to the Order Commission – they are like the ‘bodyguards’ of Nirvana. They are a group of, of course, students who willingly give their time to keep Nirvana a place of peace and order. They are found at the bigger activities such as parties and regular hangouts in the bar. There is also a song for the university of Verale; the two songs that is sung at the start of the academic year and a song dedicated to the bedel.
“I really can’t do this…” Dimmy said. She almost burst in tears.
“Oh, come on, please, not now, Dimmy,” Jett said.
“I can’t help it… I find this so hard.”
“But Dimmy… really – I don’t want to be mean or something, but it is because of you we’re still stuck in this part of the pledging,” Erika added. “We’ve rehearsed all the songs at least five times now.”
“I know… but my head is in no state of remembering this all… I’m sorry, guys.”
“It’s alright, Dimmy,” Lucy said in a calm voice. “I still have some difficulties with it as well.”
“Huh? How can you say that, Lucy? You’re one of our better singers here,” Marlena said. “I don’t believe you have difficulties with this.”
“But it’s true, Marlena. I still have some little difficulties with finding the right tones. Come, Dimmy, I think you just had the tones I seek right. Can you sing it for me?”
“But I’m really bad at this.” Dimmy sobbed.
“Ahh, it doesn’t matter. As long you get the tone right, right?” Lucy said and smiled gently. “Let’s go.”
Lucy took Dimmy’s hand and walked away.
“Lucy… please stop. I can’t keep up with you… shouldn’t we stay with the others?”
“I just wanted to get away for a bit. The pressure of this introduction period… dammit, why did I even sign up for this?”
“What was that?”
Lucy sighes and then smiled gently again. She went with her hand through her hair and looked at Dimmy and smiled at her.
“It is nothing. Just – don’t do reckless things when you’re drunk. Or well… I can’t say I was drunk – I was more or less above average tipsy.”
Dimmy laughs a bit uneasy, not sure if she finds this funny or not.
“I don’t really drink…” Dimmy said. “Is that… weird?”
“No, not at all. It is even better you don’t, to be honest. It’s bad, m’kay. So yeah…”
“But why do you drink?”
“I met this guy and we were bored. Thought it would be funny to get absolutely smashed during the ExploWeGO.”
“But it wasn’t?”
“Oh, heck yeah, it was.” Lucy laughed again and remembered that time with Simon at the festival. That was when she met that other girl, Erika. She still is a pain to her. Always wanting to know better and ‘protect’ people. As if Lucy can’t defend herself or anything yet she didn’t stand up for Dimmy.
“The guy I met that day is our Simon there.”
“Really? But… he doesn’t seem very nice at the moment.”
“Yeah, he’s probably under a lot of pressure. He just wants to do this right. He takes this way too seriously.”
The two girls looked at Simon who was rehearsing with Wayne. Lucy was wondering how Wayne does so well. He hasn’t complained about anything yet and rarely says anything. She doesn’t know what to feel about him. Sure, he seems all collected and such, but that is also startling her.
Wayne suddenly looked in the direction of Lucy and Dimmy and grinned as he always does. It gave Lucy the creeps and Dimmy looked away. This guy… this guy is weird. He might be dangerous? Better stay away and approach him only when necessary. Wayne continued to have eye-contact with Lucy as Simon was talking to Wayne. Wayne was pretending to be listening? Lucy didn’t know for sure, but it seems Simon doesn’t notice Wayne looks the other way. Lucy looked away as well after a while, but she could still feel Wayne’s glare piercing her innocent body.
“But… shouldn’t we take this seriously then? I mean… it is my only chance of getting into a club… and I want to meet new, nice people…”
“Hm, yeah, I guess. I guess the Artsy-Totsy club is pretty nice… and the Excursion club seems nice as well. I don’t really care about meeting new people, really. They come and go – usually they do come and I don’t have any difficulties with it.”
“I wish it was that easy for me.”
“Hm? How come? You’re a really nice and tranquil girl. It makes me feel at ease.”
Dimmy looks away and blushes a little.
“You really think so, Lucy?”
“Yeah, of course I do. Say, if you’re going to meet new people, count me in as one of them.”
Dimmy didn’t know what to say and she just nodded happily.
“So, shall we get back to the singing? I really want to get this over with,” Lucy proposed.
Dimmy nods again and they start to sing again. Dimmy really has a lot of difficulties with keeping up, but Lucy stays patient and explains things over and over again as long Dimmy finally memorizes it. But… there isn’t much time for that.
“Wayne? Wayne? Hey, are you listening?” Simon complained. “Really, you’re one of the most… normal people here and yet you are so like the others. What are you looking at?”
“That Lucy chick… she stares at me this whole time. I’m trying to make her feel awkward.”
Lucy looks away.
“And it looks like I did make her feel awkward,” Wayne laughed.
“Really? Just stop it, dude. We have to do this right.”
“Loosen up, dude-o. We got this, yo. We’re the best of our group, we got nothing to worry about. What we should worry about is how the others won’t fuck this up for us. I can already tell people aren’t useful here during this month.”
“Really? Who you got in mind? How many people?”
“Well, I got at least 2 people here,” Wayne said as he pointed up two fingers in a peace sign. “You wanna guess who?”
Simon thought who Wayne had in mind. At least two people? Well one of them has to be…
“Dimmy for sure.”
“That’s right. Insecure and has stage fright. Sad and pathetic, she is better off if she stops.”
“And… as for the other one. Erika?”
“No, not Erika. She’s keen and is able to stand up for herself. Tough kid she seems, but probably mellow. My gut tells me something like that.”
“Your gut tells you that?” Simon frowned. “I can only think of getting out of here and scoring at least 2 pizzas because I’m famished. – But if it isn’t Erika, then who is the other incapable one?”
“Jett.”
“Jett? Really? Hmm… a little if you think of it, but I wouldn’t say so if I had to pick.”
“Maybe you don’t like dyed hair, Simy.”
“Well, it does suit some people… but not everyone.”
“It does suit Erika, right?”
“Yeah, well. I don’t know really. I think it is an okay colour if I had to judge. Do you think it suits her?”
“I don’t really care,” Wayne laughs. “I wouldn’t plough her even if my life depended on it.”
They both laughed.
“But hey, why Jett, though?”
“Something tells me that guy isn’t right in his head. Maybe it’s the cataract he got or his goofy behaviour. But something seems off.”
“Your gut tells you that?” Simon scoffed. “Well, as long he doesn’t give me a reason why I shouldn’t like him – he’s okay to me.”
“Hm. I suppose there’s a bit of truth in that as well,” Wayne said as he was thinking. “Let’s get away.”
“Did you forget? We can’t leave the building or anything.”
“We can if we search a little. We probably have to rehearse the songs until we know them. We’re wasting our time here.”
“How do you want to do that? Leaving?”
“We can always try and walk through the exit. The worst that can happen is they send us back. I don’t care much for trouble – it would be their fault for not keeping good surveillance.”
“I guess – but I don’t want to get in trouble.”
“But how about pizza is on me?”
“Sounds very tempting. I will hold on to your offer until we can leave officially,” Simon laughs.
“I should’ve seen that coming. Fine, you win. We stay here a little longer. Should we help the others?”
“I won’t. I will really lose my composure if they get something wrong again.”
“Fair. I’m going to make Lucy feel awkward again.”
“You fancy her?”
“I might be. She’s nice to look at, that’s for sure.”
“Would you ‘plough’ her?”
“Anytime.”
The two guys laughed.
“Okay, one more time guys. We’re making solid progress here,” Marlena said satisfied. “What do you think, Will?”
“I’m a little unsure why you divided up into groups – and the fact you don’t want to rejoice is my only question. But other than that – yeah, you’re doing pretty fine. Just keep the a short of ‘era’, okay?”
“Right – got it.” Marlena said. She looked as focussed as ever. She really wanted to do this right.
“I should get the group back together soon. Do you guys think you’re ready? Got it all memorized?” Will asked as he looked at the small group he got left.
“I think we do,” Erika said and set her pair of glasses before her eyes. “But it really doesn’t sound… pure? I don’t know.”
“Trust me, you don’t have to sound like an angel. What matters is you got the lyrics memorized,” Will said as he looked at Jett. “What about you, Jett? How are you?”
“Yeah, I mean, I know the lyrics of the text and all…” Jett stumbled.
“I expect a but…”
“No, that’s not it… I mean… well, just a little. But I think it’s too much for us to memorize and learn by heart.”
“Well, I mean, you got a whole week for it and you got opportunities to study for it. College hasn’t started yet and you could’ve studied one song a day.”
“Even then… I think that’s too much.”
“And does that hold you back from memorizing the text of the song?”
“No, I only mean to say it’s just dumb we have to learn so much.”
“It’s all part of the introduction period, Jett. It’s tradition.”
“So what? It’s a dumb tradition.”
“You better not say that out loud, Jett. I don’t want to get in trouble because of you,” Erika intervened. She didn’t look quite happy.
“Yeah, I know. But it has to be said, right? Don’t you agree?” Jett asked the group. And before anyone could answer Will intervened.
“Don’t answer that question. The Judge of Whispers could hear us, y’know.”
“What’s the Judge of Whispers?” Marlena asked.
“It’s the judge who always listens during the learning sessions and any session you get the freedom to do something on your own. Like this session of learning the corps’ songs. It’s the only Judge who says nothing, but only can whisper. It’s quite funny – the bedel has to translate all the things the Judge says and it takes quite a while for his ‘speaking turn’ to end. So it’s best you don’t throw shade at the corps and its traditions. It’s bad for all of us.”
“Then lemme ask you – how do they know? How can they possibly know we are throwing shade at them? It’s impossible,” Jett argued. “They just can’t keep track of all the freshmen here.”
“I thought so as well when I was a pledger. I thought I could leave the premises and do something else because I thought it was – well, slightly unfair of them to keep me here all day. They somehow found out in the end,” Will scratched the back of his head. “I think the Judge of Whispers has got spies or something that will snitch on you.”
“I still won’t believe it.”
“That’s up to you. The Judge of Whispers is one of the few Judges who don’t punish the Parent.”
“But—“ Jett tried to say.
“Okay, I think that’s enough, kiddo,” Marlena intervened. “It’s better we don’t do anything reckless, ya? I think it would suck big time if we were to be punished by something we could’ve prevented if we hadn’t said anything wrong.”
“I’m agreeing with Marlena here. I’m sorry, Jett. Didn’t meant to pick sides here, but I just don’t want trouble,” Erika added.
“Fine… fine..!” Jett grumbled angrily. “I get it – no shit-talking about the shit Judges.”
“Jett!” Marlena yelled. “C’mon, man. Enough already…”
“Yeah, shall we get back to the songs? Still got any difficulties with it?”
“I don’t think we do, right?” Erika asked the group. The group nodded and Will smiled a little.
“Alright, nice work, everyone. I will get the rest. Rest a little while I’m gone, ‘kay? A long Judges’ sitting will come up next,” Will said as he walked away.
“Jett, what the hell was that about?” Marlena snarled as Will just left.
“I was just being curious – don’t get all angry with me, Marles,” Jett defended himself. “I didn’t know we weren’t allowed to speak what we were all thinking, right?”
“I know – but now is not the time. You heard what Will said, right?”
“I do all too well. Drop it a little.”
“If you drop this ridiculous act of yours, Jett.”
“Geez – simmer down a little, Marlena. We’re going to get punished either way.”
“Holy shit – that doesn’t mean we have to throw it all away, man. Use your head,” Erika snarled.
“All I’m saying is it doesn’t matter what we do – we’ll get punished anyway.”
“Yo, how you guys doing?” Will came back and behind him were the groups of Simon and Lucy. “Are you fighting? What’s the matter.”
“Of course someone is fighting…” Simon whispered annoyed.
“Jett won’t heed your words about the Judge of Whispers,” Marlena said.
“I do – but I think it’s unfair we can’t say what we want.”
“Yes, I know – but you just can’t say anything you want either. It’s rude.” Will said.
“If I want to say something – I just say it, alright? If anyone got a problem with it… Tough nuts for them.” Jett argued.
“Jett, geez…” Erika said.
“You don’t say your mum is a cocksucker because you think she is one, right? It’s just the same. Have some decency. It’s not that hard to keep your mouth shut. You can always insult others in your free time, but not when we’re here,” Wayne dropped.
Simon began to laugh.
“What did you just say about my mother?” Jett said angrily.
“It was just an example just anyone thick skulled like you would understand it as well,” Wayne said calmly.
“Guys, guys – c’mon. That’s enough,” Will said. “Jett, will you please… let it go for a bit? You’re holding up the group a little.”
“I am?! I really beg to differ—“
“Is there something the matter?” a familiar voice said. It was Miles the head of Judges. “I just heard from the Judge of Whispers there’s a dispute here that needs to be resolved. Am I correct?”
“Yes, Your Honour. It seems we have a little discussion here – but I think things can be resolved if we drop the subject, right?” Will answered and he looked at Jett – signing him to drop it.
“Yes… that’s right… I’m sorry.”
“Sorry?” Miles scoffed. “We don’t say sorry – we apologize.”
“I apologize…” Jett mumbled.
“And who do you apologize to?”
“Will.”
“Who?”
“Will.”
“And who is Will?”
“He.”
Miles picked a small notebook and pen out of his inner pocket of his jacket and started to note things.
“It seems you haven’t taught your child manners, Will. He doesn’t even know you’re his Parent. Please make him behave the next time we see him.”
“Yes, Your Honour.”
“Sanctions will follow soon after – just you wait, Brick,” Miles said coldly and he walked away.
“Well, that was scary…” Erika said.
“You can say that again – that was really scary… I’m still shaking because of it…” Dimmy said.
“Now do you believe in the Judge of Whispers?” Marlena asked Jett. “Thanks to you – he knows who you are… he might know who we are!”
“Marlena – don’t scold him now at a time like this. I think… he gets the clue,” Will defended Jett. “Alright… as for the songs – how did it fair?”
Then Miles scolded all of the Bricks and the Judge of Songs had to rehearse all the songs over and over until the Judges were satisfied. It took a total of 2 hours – the re-rehearsal.
“I can’t fucking believe this… we did so well and managed to screw up again…” Simon said angrily.
“It wasn’t our fault, Simon. We couldn’t do anything about it – it wasn’t our group who screwed up,” Lucy said.
“Just shut up, Lucy. They probably come with some bullshit we have to do this as a year club and if one fails – we all fail. It’s futile.”
“I told you before… they will screw us over anyway,” Jett said.
“Yeah, we know, Jett. You don’t have to repeat yourself over and over again,” Erika snarled.
“Just what is your problem, Erika? You’ve been mean to me all this time.”
Erika ignored Jett.
“Yoo, fellas. It’s quite late now – as you might have noticed. Go get some sleep and get ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow your first day of college will start – so be sure to look well in your timetable,” Will said.
“How are we going to combine this with college?” Dimmy asked.
“Well – the university keeps the introduction period in mind – so they have adjusted the timetables. Be sure to do your homework – and remember the songs well. I don’t want to pressure you and keep you from the uni – but keep rehearsing. I will see you at 3 PM again before the building. That would give us some opportunity to rehearse the things you learned the past week and we could hang out for a little while before this all starts again. Sounds great?”
Will got mixed answers but the group was quite satisfied with what Will proposed.
“Can you keep up, Will?”
“Oh, yeah – barely.”
“Does your group fight a lot with each other?”
“A little. – Say, what are you doing here? Miles left already.”
“Oh – I came by to see how you’re doing. We haven’t spoken in a while.”
“And I think we both know why I don’t want to.”
“Come on, Will… I really miss you. Can’t we hang out again sometime?”
“I don’t think Miles will like that.”
“I know… but I just want to… have an excuse to see you again or something.”
“We can’t.” Will looked around – afraid of Miles returning.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s wrong, Ava.”
“Will, Miles and I – we have a great bond… you don’t have to distance yourself from us.”
“Just… leave me alone, Ava. I’m really not in the mood for this.”
“Why are you doing this, Will? Is it because of last time?”
“Well, can you blame me?”
“No – but that doesn’t mean you have to cut it off like this. What the hell’s gotten into you? Miles said anything? If he did – I want to know.”
“Miles doesn’t tell me anything!”
“Then why are you being so stubborn? Why can’t I see you again?”
“Like I said before – this is wrong, Ava!” Will walked away.
“Will. Stay. I just… want to talk. Nothing more.”
“Just like last time?”
“No… not like last time. I want to know how you’re doing… it’s been a month now.”
“I’m fine.”
“… You don’t seem all that ‘fine’ to me. Is something the matter?”
Will sighed and went with his hand through his hair. And we walked away.
“You can’t just walk away and pretend it didn’t happen, Will. We’ve got to be open about it someday.”
“How about we don’t? Because… there’s nothing to tell?”
“But we ki—“
“No, we were drunk. It didn’t mean anything – you’re with Miles and this is wrong. I don’t want you to be near me and I don’t want to talk to you – simple as that.”

Text
favourite male fictional characters
Thank you @vishcount for tagging me, this was a lot of fun! 💞 I originally planned to follow your example and put ten characters here but suddenly it became a lot more oops. also i hope you forgive me for following your format, it’s neat
I am tagging @isabellaofparma , @the-cloud-whisperer and @sassyassassy!
I chose the characters that impacted me deeply on a personal level throughout my life (often shown by how long my love lasts over the years and if i was inspired to write for them).
In no specific order under the cut:
Legolas
The Lord of The Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien.
I think it’s only fitting I start off with this magnificent guy. Maybe I gotta admit, i’ve just had a crush on him ever since I was like, nine years old? He’s the character I will fight tooth and claw for (though I guess he doesn’t need me to do that). I love Orlando Bloom’s portrayal of him, eventhough he is vastly different from the books. Book Legolas is such a delight as well, he feels so whimsical and playful and his banter with Gimli is just gold. I was sad when The Hobbit trilogy came out and I was so disappointed by how they butchered his character, it just did not feel authentic anymore (maybe I am also just bitter about the forced hetero storyline for him. makes no cents, this elf is GayTM your honour. and he will meet his soulmate Gimli in a few decades). Either way, Legolas is the love of my life, thanks for coming to my tedtalk,
Peter Pan
Peter Pan, J. M. Barrie
Another childhood crush of mine. The gif I chose if from the 2005 movie because we always used to watch it and it is to this day one of my favourite movies. It’s so dreamy, so magical, yet also incredibly sad and sweet. I have this very strange fascination with Peter Pan. There is something incredibly unsettling about him, especially in the book. He represents something every child wants - who doesn’t want to escape their bedroom and fly away to experience magical adventured far from the adult world? And yet he also represents the impossibility of it, the curse he carries around with himself because he will forever stay alone, no matter how many lost boys he gathers around himself. And Wendy - it’s a love that was never meant to grow and mature, it’s a fleeting dream for the both of them. I have seen many different adaptations of Peter Pan and I have my favourites, though I want to give a special mention to the book Peter Darling by Austin Chant. It’s a retelling of the story how we know it, in which Peter returns to Neverland after having finally grown up BUT the main points I want to highlight is trans Peter? Heck yes. Gripping and compelling gay love story with our favourite original lost boy Captain Hook? YES.
Snufkin
Moomins, Tove Jansson.
I have discovered Snufkin for myself only last year, and yet I know he will stay with me forever. In short - I vibe with him, he vibes with me. His anxieties about being with people and longing for solitude? His fear of being loved and being important to someone to a point he doesn’t know what to do with himself? This man just wants to roam freely with his own mind and yet he always returns for something that captures him. Mum, I love him because I have rarely felt this seen before. Also, Snufkin said ACAB.
Prince Jing - Xiao Jingyan
Nirvana in Fire (2015)
This too is a darling I have only discovered recently. I watched Nirvana in Fire this year and let me tell you, it’s the best show I have seen in a long while. It’s absolutely amazing and it also ripped my heart out. All the characters are absolutely amazing and I am still not over it.
To be honest, I contemplated between Xiao JIngyan and Mei Changsu, because character-wise I think the latter is a lot more interesting and compelling. He makes for a fantastic heartbreaking and flawed protagonist.
However I have to admit - it was love at first sight with Prince Jing for me and I’m still lowkey mad abt it rip. Seems like I am not immune to Pretty Prince Propaganda. But apart from that, I adore him for his genuine
goodness,
his almost naive drive to be better and seek justice. He lost everything, and for the longest time did not have anything to fight for. So alone and lost and bitter, it makes me sad how much it hardened him. He is heartbreak and clumsy kindness hidden under a skin of scars that was inflicted by his father and many others. I see his sad cat-eyes and I cry, that’s just how it is.
Edmund Pevensie
The Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis
I grew up with these books and movies - they have always been part of my life and it will probably always stay that way (only last night I rewatched the first movie and sobbed). Imagine my surprised when I finally watched the last movie about five years ago and was incredibly impressed by how they adapted the book; also imagine my brain suddenly going CASMUND in bold letters at Skandar Keynes’ and Ben Barnes’ performance in that movie. From there, I rediscovered this story completely anew for myself. My favourite Pevensie sibling has always been Lucy (and still is, because I identify with her so much and she feels like home to me); however this new discovery of Edmund’s character was overwhelming. It’s interesting to see characters you’ve grown up with from a more grown up point of view. I don’t want to lay out all my thoughts here, just know I am so heartbroken for him, and so so proud as well. His character arc is amazing and maybe that’s how the last movie makes me even more emotional. Seeing Edmund and Lucy still holding on to Narnia but knowing that that door was closing for them? Not to mention what happens in the later books (we don’t talk about that). Also did I mention Casmund. Here, have my incredibly emo and depressing take on Edmund’s character that I started writing four years ago and which will forever stay a WIP.
Nie Huaisang
The Untamed (2019)
My son. My soul. My bane of existence. The tragic thing about him is, that he does not really exist in canon as I have created him for myself. He’s a secondary character in the show, always so relatable yet still brings the ultimate twist of the story, yet he still remains this incomplete shadow. The movie
Fatal Journey
gave him a lot more and I cried tears of joy and devastation. I don’t know why I latched on to him so much, but apparently he is the one that I project on, the one that feels like he sits somewhere inside my chest. I don’t know what else to say - this year he has been everything to me. I spend a lot of time in his head while writing, and maybe that’s how he’s there forever now. Nie Huaisang saw my brain and went it’s free real estate. All my love for you, you dramatic art hoe.
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Ah, another lifelong companion. There are many adapations that I adore - starting from the origin of it all, the books and stories which I have all devoured; the 80s adaptation with Jeremy Brett which was incredibly wonderful; to BBC Sherlock which shaped and traumatised me (I still like the first three seaons but I am too hurt to think about it); to the numerous movies - but by far my most favourite performance is Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. Somehow he manages to capture the Holmes I see in my head when I read the books, the sharp yet polite eccentric detective, who loves his companion so much and who has desire to help others. Sherlock Holmes will always stay special to me, in so many different ways. He shaped my youth and I know he will stay with me. (also what would you say when I told you he helped me discover that I can, in fact, be queer AND ace at the same time? thanks pal). What else is there to say? Sherlock Holmes is a universe that you can dive into and find many amazing treasures.
Isak Valtersen
SKAM (2015)
There he is, the boy that changed my life. SKAM changed my life. All of the characters did. However, Isak is special for many, as I imagine. I remember winter 2016, when tumblr was flooded by these norwegian white boys kissing in a pool and cuddling and I was like ‘nah’, this doesn’t look convincing. I don’t know what changed my mind but I remember sitting down at last and watching all that was released of season three and it was only downhill from there. I remember starting to follow the real life updates religiously while watching the other previous seasons in between. The one clip that completely wrecked me was when Isak went to the school nurse about his struggles with sleep - it felt like for the first time I saw someone on screen that could understand me on so many different levels. The entierty of seaons three is so personal, I would tell you to go watch it if you don’t know what I mean. The entire show in fact. It’s a masterpiece and it feels so real. This show impacted my life in a way that no show has managed to do before. I miss it so much. I miss Isak too sigh.
Shang Xirui
Winter Begonia (2020)
Technically, for me personally, Shang Xirui is the nonbinary, gay and ace representation I need in my life (or at least that’s my own personal take on him), but since that is not official, he’s still here on this list. Of course he is because wow, it’s been a long while since I’ve seen such a compelling character on screen. I went from disliking him to being absolutely heartbroken over him. I don’t think any other character in this show captured me as much as he did. There are so many layers to him and discovering all of his sides is a wonderful, heartbreaking, painful and also beautiful journey. I’m not sure I understand all of him yet, but I am willing to try and dig and just ponder his existence. This too, is a perfect example for a flawed yet authentic protagonist. Also he is the most beautiful thing on this planet, or at least that’s how I have been feeling ever since I watched this. I wish to write more of him in the future.
Aang
Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005)
I grew up watching ATLA and my favourite characters have always been Toph, Zuko and Uncle Iroh. In recent years however, I completely fell in love with Aang all anew.
I think especially in the past, I had these prejudices against main characters and found them all the most boring personalities ever. In recent years this changed a lot and especially Aang is a prime example for that. Watching him from the perspective of older me, I find so much wisdom in this young boy. Somehow he represents all I wish to be in my life but at the same time he shows his flaws, he carries this sadness with him that will accompany him all his life. This inner battle and chaos that he has to face day to day and in the end - he is just a young boy. So much has been taken from him and yet he learns how to not let it overtake him, that anger and hurt. He tries his hardest to be better than the day before, even if sometimes the world crashes down on him and he gets overwhelmed. He is a child recruited by adults to manage their mistakes and play into the hands of predestined fate and in this essay I will -
Harry Potter
Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling
I am surprised myself. I thought I would put Fred and George here, or Remus and Sirius, however I realised that none of them quite capture this feeling of lifelong change, of personal, deep impact that Harry had on me.
As with Aang above, I used to think Harry was the most boring protagonist, yet my opinion took a 180° turn in the past years. Many of the things I wrote for Aang apply to him too - the fact that he was a child, that lost so much, and was always faced with challenges that a child should never have needed to face. Something I want to address is how my favourite book, The Order of the Phoenix, lays all of this out. Harry is just as flawed, just as vulnerable and angry as anyone else. I know some people did not like his ‘emo behaviour’ in the fifth book but for me it just showed how human he is, how he was just a teen like myself at that time. As for many, this boy shaped my entire life, shaped a generation, and I will forever be grateful. I’m sad and angry at how J*R behaves, and how she puts us in the position of doubting our love for these stories. I know I will always love them, but I will not turn a blind eye on all the problematic shit is carries with itself and what the author piles upon us.
Lan Wangji & Wei Wuxian
The Untamed (2019)
I will try and keep this short, because if you want to read my thoughts about Wangxian just go to my ao3 and find the over 70k i wrote for them. I decided to put them here together because I can’t seperate them and I can’t choose between them. Each of them carries something I recognise in myself, and each of them is the opposite of me. They each own my heart and soul and I know there will never be a fictional couple like this for me ever again. They’ve snuck their way into my heart and have never left. They deserve to be here, together, because my love for them is indescribable. Bless them. + Bonus:
The Doctor
Doctor Who (1963/2005)
Technically, the Doctor doesn’t count as a “male” character, but since he has been presenting as male up until recently, I needed to include him. I chose the Tenth Doctor because he is the one that broke my heart the most. I adored Nine but he was there too short, and I do love Eleven and Twelve a lot, and Thirteen absolutely owns my heart, Ten has just always been the one that made me cry the most. I loved this era of Doctor Who, I loved how sad and hopeful he was, how heartbroken and yet determined to help wherever it was needed. Doctor Who is always that show, when I return to it, I am reminded that maybe, humanity and the universe isn’t all that bad.
phew, this took ages damn. but i had so much fun! i decided to leave out honorable mentiones because we would be sitting here until tomorrow lol.
