❤️ Today is the two year anniversary of losing my friend Jeanne Lavender, who I was privileged to know and work with for over a decade. Jeanne was the funniest, most authentic person I have ever met, the original black magic woman, and she taught me a lot about life. Like all of the elder wisewomen, Jeanne was the keeper of the secrets and memories of our shop, and she told me amazing and hilarious stories about Greenwich Village in the 60s, Boulder in the 70s, and beyond. I feel so very fortunate to have had the time and memories with her that I did. Looking Back Thirty-Five Years Ago To A Great President – A Note From PAGA
Thirty-five years ago, on May 21, 1987, President Ronald Reagan issued this Presidential Proclamation to pray for permanent peace, in recognition of America’s fallen heroes.
The majority of presidential proclamations express sentiments for the proclamation occasion, state the authority and purpose of the proclamation, and designate action(s) to be taken by the American public and various institutions in joining the observance.
President Reagan wrote Memorial Day Proclamations every year he was in office. His 1987 proclamation, however, is unique in that he prays in the proclamation.
