I was looking for something in an old file and I found this pictuer of Ganguro Beavis & Butthead that (I assume) I drew like 100 years ago in MS Paint.

Somewhere between 5 and 6? Except I can easily watch horror alone and at night, sometimes I’m startled by jump scares because I don’t really think startling is the same as being scared. I’ll feel anxious during some scenes in some movies, but it has almost no effect on me after I turn the movie off.
Lol I yearn for a horror movie that will keep me up at night, literally chasing that high I haven’t been able to catch since I was like 12.
okay so this is not an ‘official’ metric by any scale but i am curious so i just bullshitted my own (explanation on levels under the poll)
level 1 - can’t tolerate horror at all, actively avoids it at all costs
level 2 - will watch a horror movie with friends/family if convinced but will definitely not enjoy it. screams at jumpscares and covers eyes at tense moments
level 3 - can occasionally consume horror media. very easily startles at jumpscares. usually feels anxious/paranoid afterward
level 4 - startles at jumpscares and generally feels uneasy after consuming horror media. avoids anything horror-related at night time
level 5 - jumpscares are less effective, but can still startle. feels anxious during tense moments. horror mostly causes unease only at night time
level 6 - has no problem consuming any kind of horror media alone at night. is largely unaffected by jumpscares. horror causes no feeling of fear or anxiety

For April Fools Day in 2009 some friends and I did like really bad on purpose fake decora with a bunch of random stuff and rave bracelets. Then later we went out into the woods and did Guro Lolita for real. Just 2009 Lolita stuff.

I went to a meetup at a Guy Fieri restaurant on monday where most of us wore something a little goofy. I used it as an excuse to wear maid lolita. The servers were all really excited that we were there and dressed weird, so they let us borrow a bunch of Guy standees to take some pictures with!

I feel like modern Lolita is rather a description of a shape of dress rather than a fashion subculture. Like old school Lolita had many different cuts of dresses and even outfits with pants with a lot of variety in head gear and accessories. I feel like modern Lolita just doesn't have this diversity
Lol yeah, I’ve felt this was since like 2012. There definitely feels like there was a point in the fashion where the aesthetics were purely about what fit over a cupcake petticoat and what checked a couple different aesthetic boxes.
I’ve been out of the Lolita discussion for too long, but ugh, I definitely remember “salopettes are just something Lolita brands release for *other* fashion, *not* Lolita” being a big piece of “advice” given out. As if a dress released by a Lolita brand, in the same print, in the same style, in the same outfit, but with a slightly different skirt shape was somehow not Lolita? As if Lolita brands didn’t know what they were even releasing? I don’t know if this is something people still say, but I will fight them forever about it.

In 2011 I absolutely loved making this grungy Cult Party Kei ragged shit made of torn tea stained stuff. It was too niche though and was only ever really table filler at artist alley tables for me. But ugh, I loved making this kind of stuff.

I redrew that picture I drew in 2005. Well, mostly I traced over the old lines and drew the face and hair better, but still tried to keep it 2005 looking.

Here's some more pics from that 2009 Guro Lolita thing. I'm the one in the red sweater. Some of these are more serious than others. This was red liquid fabric dye that we just splashed around on each other in the woods. It looked really good and crunchy, but it made the most hilarious mess. I later took that dress out back and sprayed all the chunky, flakey, fabric paint off with a hose and idk it looked like it was badly tie died after. Mine was part of an old F+F dress set, I probably still have it somewhere.

Whenever I find sort of weird Lisa Frank merch on Ebay I save pictures of it, but no info because I don't think that far ahead. This was a catalog (mid 80s??) someone was selling, that sold for a ton, but they included pretty high quality scans of each of the pages. There's a bunch of designs in here I've never seen before! Particularly some of the little round stickers and like any of the Stickerbooks.

There are some really awesome EGL neocites sites up, and everyone should look at them and ALSO make their own Lolita fashion neocities site. And then submit a screen shot and a link to this blog as a post so I can share it with everyone else and also look at it.

I have ancient text files from this era, some of them had links I was interested in, and some of those links are even archived on the way back machine! https://web.archive.org/web/20031031062224/http://www.frozen-spring.net/crosses/linkout.html Here's part of a page from 2003 that had some Lolita links! Some of these still work in the way back machine if you want to see what some brand websites looked like back then. There was really no differentiating between the bigger brands and indie brands back then. So this is a real mix of stuff like Angelic Pretty, and some random Lolita's indie brand.

I love this interview, particularly the part about how, initially, no one seemed to get that the movie was supposed to be satire and only her and Christian Bale were laughing at the premiere. Because it was really always so obvious. Like the first time I saw it, going in assuming it was some sort of “totally fucked up horror” like everyone said it was, and I first saw the business card scene I was filled with such ecstatic glee. It’s not laugh out loud funny for me, but it’s like I want to pause the movie and be super obnoxious and gush over how perfectly hilarious every aspect of this scene is and make sure everyone is just taking it all in and appreciating what’s happening. I feel that way every time I’ve seen it since, and I’m sure it’s very annoying for everyone.
I can’t imagine how much this movie would have sucked if Leonardo DiCaprio was cast. He’s such a joyless, unfunny, man.

In 2012 I took these pictures of my wardrobe, probably for the wardrobe posts on EGL! I still have most of these.

I haven’t been on tumblr in a really long time, so I think I’m responding to tags correctly-ish.
IIRC January wardrobe posts were just “traditionally” EGL’s monthly theme! Every month on EGL there was a new theme, but Jan was always the same: post your wardrobe.
Lolita day was also an EGL post! I’ll see if I can dig it up, it was just someone saying “hey let’s make this”, and in the comments it was decided there should be 2 in a year, I believe for north/south hemisphere people, so no one was stuck with a Lolita Day in the heat of summer or freezing winter, so you could kind of pick the better one.
Most mysterious Lolita things were just stuff we decided on EGL one day lol, it’s mostly still all there too! I’m pretty sure “bittersweet Lolit” was just some random girl going “this is what I personally call dresses I like”.
Some might be private now though, so you would need an LJ account that’s a member to view it.
