That escalated quickly.

When you were asked to join the Bixlers on their weekly Game Night this morning you immediately said yes. Of course you did. You´ve been living with Beth and her family for a month now and honestly? You haven´t been this happy, this carefree, in, well, ever?

Well, until Beth came into your life and turned it (and you, literally - you can´t remember much seeing as you were both high af but something about truth or dare - you dared, of course you did, idiot) upside down.

It´s kind of a sad truth and yet you can´t bring yourself to mourn your past and its missed opportunities (again). Not now. Not when it´s brought you here. Right in the middle of this family of asshats goofballs who never fail to make you laugh until the tears drop and you feel like you´re suffocating. Who make you feel like you belong, no questions asked. Like you´re home.

So when Kassie came running up to you, nearly vibrating with excitement, those big eyes staring directly into your soul-

(Well, we all know where she got that from.)

So, family Game Night it is.

What immediately sprung to mind when you heard "Game Night" were things like UNO, Go Fish or, hell, for this family you´d endure a few rounds of Monopoly as well.

So, yknow, normal things.

What you didn´t expect, however, was war playing out right in front of you because-

"You cheated!"

"How are you supposed to cheat here??"

You fear Kassie is about to have a full-out temper tantrum any second now-

A brick goes flying then, and you´d be quite impressed by the sheer force of it, if it weren´t for the fact it was going straight for you, missing your eye by a hair's breadth but still managing to get you quite good, motherfu-

And oh man, those eyes-

Through watery eyes (because that did hurt like mad) you can only watch Kassie get up and stomp out of the room before anything more can be said, and, well, you kinda get that. Being reprimanted not only by Mom but also your cool groupie-aunt (who might not be so cool for a while now) must feel quite overwhelming, unfair. Like the whole world is against you suddenly. But then again, you didn´t expect to be on the receiving end of a missile today, fucking-

Ellie is up in no time, body tense, a stern look on her face and even though it´s not directed at you, you can´t help the shiver that runs through your body because-

Mommy´s very angry.

It´s like she´s got some kind of tunnel vision, eyes staring daggers at the door her youngest disappeared through seconds ago and the resemblance between Mother and Daughter strikes you yet again as Ellie goes to stomp angrily walk towards it, only-

Kid got some balls, you gotta admit that.

Ellie freezes for a moment and even though she seems calm and collected on the outside, you just know she´s swearing like a sailor in her head. You can see her jaw working - clenching, releasing, clenching, releasing.

How silence can be so deafening is beyond you.

"Uh...you need some ice for that or-?"

Danny´s remark seems to snap everyone out of it. Ellie whips around so fast you fear she´s pulled a muscle. You swear there was a crack!.

She´s storming towards you, apologies spewing out of her. She looks quite frantic and, dare you say, a bit unhinged? Her hands come up to hover in front of you and she doesn´t seem to know what to do with them for a moment - clenching and unclenching them, lowering them only to lift them again - before she finally settles on oh so carefully cradling your head to take a closer look at what must, no doubt, be a pretty nasty bump by now, if that sharp tut! she makes is anything to go by.

Her thumb runs over it, just above your left eyebrow, the pressure she applies almost nonexistent and yet-

"Ah!"

You can´t stop the breathy sound from escaping your lips. Which only leads to Ellie looking even more like she´s about to lose it-

"I´m so sorry. I don´t know what´s gotten into her. She´s never done anything like this-"

She´s gonna give herself an aneurisma at this rate, so your hands come up as well, fingertips only just touching her forearms. Making sure you have her full attention.

"Ellie, hey, it´s alright-"

"It´s not alright. In this family we don´t just go around, throwing stuff at people. Especially not at guests. Things could´ve ended way worse-"

Well, that´s a tad bit dramatic isn´t it? However, you can feel your cheeks getting hot. You can´t help it. Ellie just has this way of being...Ellie.

Beth must sense your growing discomfort with the current situation. She´s always had a knack for reading you like a book and, right now, you feel like there´s a giant spotlight shining right at you. You´ve never liked being the center of attention and yet, with Ellie, it seems like you´re always the center of attention. It´s nerve-wracking most times, overwhelming, but also...oddly charming? (It´s complicated.)

"Hey Shortstuff, how about we go get some ice for that Bad Boy, hm? If it grows any bigger we might have to leash it."

Her half-lidded eyes are twinkling like they always do when she´s trying to stiffle a laugh. The right corner of her mouth just so lifted. Waggling her eyebrows once. All in all, she looks every bit the coquettish rascal that she is.

It never fails to make you laugh.

The two of you get up, Beth´s hand resting on your lower back, already halfway to the kitchen before she turns around once more, hand never leaving its current resting place.

"You guys mind packing up here in the meantime?"

You´ve almost reached the kitchen now, the open doorway within reach, and you finally feel like you can breathe again-

"Wait-"

A hand that is not Beth´s reaches between the both of you, taking hold of your left upper arm, making you turn around and-

Well, so much for breathing.

"Let me help. It´s the least I can do."

Shit.

You can feel Beth´s eyes on you as well, so you throw a quick glance in her direction. The both of you long since able to converse without words:

'I´ll handle it, just lemme know.'

'It´s alright, I got this.'

After a second you turn to Ellie, a gentle but firm dismissal already on your lips-

"Please."

Oh man, those eyes you swear to god-

Out of the corner of your eye you can see Beth moving forward a little, steps so minor one might believe she simply shifted on her feet. But you know better than that and you appreciate it, you really do.

However, while Ellie does turn you into a nervous wreck most of the time, you don´t want her to get the impression you might actually fear her. Not now. Not ever. How could you when she´s so...her?

Besides, you don´t want her to keep feeling guilty about what happened with Kassie. That was in no way her fault and you hated seeing that apprehension in her eyes. Apprehensive about what you aren´t exactly sure. Perhaps she doesn´t want you to think that this is what usually happens on a "Game Night"? Perhaps she doesn´t want you, or anyone for that matter, doubting her mothering skills? Like that´s even a possibility. You know what an amazing mom she is, you´ve witnessed it countless times in the short while you´ve been staying with the Bixlers. These kids are the luckiest and they know it, of that you´re certain.

So, before Beth can swoop in to rescue you from her own sister you take action, arm lifting just enough for your fingertips to graze her hand.

'It´s okay.'

Your brief interaction, lasting no more than two seconds, went unnoticed by Ellie. She was still staring right into your soul, right-

"Alright."

The smile she gives you in return is radiating, and you can't help it—already feeling the corners of your mouth lifting. It's an automatic response, same as with Beth. Apparently, charm runs in the family.

You swear to god.

Unbeknownst to you, this brief interaction did not go unnoticed. Eyes flitting back and forth between the pair of you, eyebrows slightly scrunched, Beth did wonder-

'Hm...'

As you and Ellie continue toward the kitchen, her hand remaining firmly on your arm, you glance over your shoulder to share one last look with Beth, and you can't help but notice...something's off.

Ellie is rather persistent in her pursuit though, giving your arm a light tug, urging you along. Alright alright.

You follow Ellie into the kitchen, her hand coming to rest between your shoulder blades now, leaving Beth and the others to clean up the living room.

You weren´t exactly sure what to expect from tonight but one thing´s for certain:

4. How did Durge come to be? Why them? Was it a vibe you tried to capture or a specific visual you wanted to represent? Did you borrow them from previous works or were they handcrafted for this story you have in mind?

OKAY SO. I really didn't vibe with the idea of Durge to begin with? I didn't understand why they were doing MORE Bhaalspawn, I didn't understand why Durge was an Origin but you couldn't have the Lizard in your camp if you were a custom Tav, the moody monologue that Durge gives in the character creator just made me roll my eyes...

But then I played my custom Tav (Carmela, the problematically pious paladin) and got all the reveals about how Durge was involved in this plot without remembering it, and THEN I met Gortash and it was all over for me

One of my favourite past OCs is a sith inquisitor from SWTOR, a deranged lesbian pureblood sith who honestly has a lot in common with Orin, and playing an evil character with her was such a hoot that I decided I would try Durge in BG3. I wanted to lean into the inherent tragedy of Durge, and for some reason I decided I wanted to make twin Durges, I think it was just because I wanted to have more characters in my roster to smooch the companions. So I went trawling through greek myth for a set of twins that appealed to me, and landed on Cassandra of Troy, the doomed oracle, cursed to never be believed, raped and assaulted while the gods looked on, taken as a prisoner of war and killed far from home. She has a lesser known twin named Helenus, who shared her oracular powers to a lesser extent, but he survived the war in Troy and went on to lead his own city. The disparity in their fates and the suffering they endured hit on something for me, and so was born Kassara and Heronus.

I also intended for them both to be more outright (cartoonishly) evil, more akin to Orin, and at least one of the earliest bits of writing I posted for them reflects that. I think Kass is still quite bleakly horrifying in a lot of the stuff I ended up writing for her, but she's far more of a Tragic character

13. Final and spiciest question. How down bad are you for your Durge. Would you hit it even though you'd probably not make it out alive?

Oh my god Kass is SO hot. She's not as fat as I am but writing even a chubby character being considered incredibly attractive and voraciously sexual has been a balm for my soul. Every time someone reblogs art of her and gushes in the tags about her being hot it heals something in me. Ganon would be the Captain and ~obviously~ the one who actually owns the boat. 

-I want this to be more of a “thwarted plot to unleash calamity” sort of fic where the champions and divine power are no longer necessary. This makes Zelda’s life boring as all hell and not in need of protection.  -That means some weird “dehydrated Ganon’s body is freed for reasons I need to figure out” to argue him coming out of the catacombs like “wh-what?” He decides being trapped under the castle by dark magic is a good enough excuse to want to travel and not be anywhere near central Hyrule. -Link doesn’t find the master sword. He’s never a personal guard (since she never needs one) and is relieved from the royal guard after an incident resulting in the loss of his leg. After some bullshit he joins Ganon’s crew.  -Urbosa is in on this pirate shit as a side gig until she gets too sick of Zelda being miserable at the castle. Basically just comes out and asks her “hey, wanna go be a pirate?” and this poor girl doesn’t hesitate.  -Revali would be the last crew member to join. It would be with a whole lot of reluctance and ‘having nothing better to do’ //i.e. killing sea monsters and battling other ships is cool as hell and is on-brand for someone with overwhelming hubris// -I know in other tag I mentioned considering it to be a ravlink fic but honestly Black Sails is in my brain so I’m vibing more with it being more of a gan/link/zel sort of spiel. I also imagine Link just being very open in general so he’d probably be a flirty, feral animal. Not sure how hard I want to lean into any ‘romantic’ elements tho, honestly.  -I’m still 100% giving Link a hurdy gurdy. He gets it as a gift from Kass

He was acting like this was his first time asking someone to a dance, or even asking someone out. He was nervous, skittish, and his damn foot wouldn’t stop tapping. He didn’t like how nervous he looked or felt, it didn’t match the vibe and aesthetic that he tried to display to the public. When he was dating Maeve, there were those few times that he did get like this but the moments never lasted. He felt bad for that, as it made him question his feelings for her. Even in his previous relationships, it wasn’t like this. He was the cool and charming one, not some pre-teen who was asking out a girl for the first time, what the fuck. Clearing his throat, he knocked on the door, finally giving in. If he was going to do this then he needed to do this. The door open, expecting to be met with Vida but got Briar instead. The pair said nothing to each other, as she just opened the door wider and saying “It’s for you, Vida.” Emmett watched as the other walked over to him, eyes trained on the flowers in hand, eyebrow raised. Before she could say anything, he started talking. “Vida, the two of us and literally everyone hear knows that I hate beating around the bush. I like to get straight to the point of things, even if I look like a clown or a fool doing so. So, I’m going to say it.” He breathed in. “I like you, quoting Aylin, I like like you. A lot. You’ve always been someone I’ve cared about, there’s no doubt about that, I just didn’t realize the extent of it. Because what he said then was true. While he appreciated how hardworking she was as a spy, he didn’t like to think about losing her. Not now, not for a while honestly. “Which brings me to ask this—“ gently pushing the red roses in her direction, Emmett smiled down at her. “Vida Torres, would you do me the honor of dating me and be my date at the end of the year party?”

Vida had been a tad focused lately. What with the Brotherhood knocking down their walls, finals still going strong, and now she’d been asking Kass Sutton for advice to set someone up. It definitely wasn’t her strong suit, playing match-maker, but if she could just help Briar find a date, she’d get a promise out of the third year she very much wanted. All that to say, she’d hardly had time to really think about herself lately. Not even when lately she’d been having questions pop into her head every time she was around Emmett, or talked about him. Her roommates would not stop clowning her about it either, asking what exactly was going on between them, and she would swear up and down that it was simply friends with benefits. Of course, they were close friends, they always were. Vida didn’t deny caring for him deeply, but when prodded about how she cared about him, she didn’t have a good answer. She thought it might be good to face it head on and look for an answer, just as soon as she had time.

But now, there had been a knock on the door, and Briar turned to say it was for her. There was… something in the way Briar said it, or a glint in her eye, or an air among all the girls in the room. Except her. Maybe if she’d questioned it a bit more, she would have asked what she knew, or maybe put a little more effort in the way she looked. But it was her day off, so she showed up to answer the door in an over-sized T-shirt, covering most of her shorts but allowing bralette straps to peek on her shoulders, and her hair half up in messy waves to greet Emmett Blackthorne holding a bouquet of roses. Red roses, like she’d told Briar… She opened her mouth to ask what was going on, but Emmett had started talking and all she could do was listen as he started to speak. And when he said those words, Vida stood frozen in place. I like you. I like like you. A lot. A small laugh bubbled out of her at the mention of quoting Aylin, and the growing smile stayed as he continued on, because as he explained further, she understood every word. She understood them, because they were reflections of her own feelings. Except unlike her, Emmett had the guts to voice them. When he asked her out, she didn’t have to think anymore. It all clicked into place, and she moved past the flowers to grab hold of him, giving him answer in the form of a greedy, breath-taking kiss.

When she finally parted, allowing them to breathe again, all she said with a wicked grin on her face was, “Yeah. Yeah, I will.” And then, because she knew her roommates had to have had a hand in this, she used one hand to push Emmett out of the door with her, and the other to swiftly close it behind her. With her roommates inside and her standing barefoot in her pajamas in the hallway alone with the man she cared deeply for, she felt no inhibition or hesitation in grabbing him by the shirt and pulling him close, leaning her back against the door, and kissing him hard like she’d done a million times. But this time, it felt different. This time, she really fucking meant it.

So I want to comment on what you said about jumping from platonically friends to high romantic, because I think there’s a good distinction to talk about there. I think you know this as a concept, but I want you to know know it- it’s a good thing if he gives you both vibes. For a romantic relationship to thrive, y’all have to be each other’s friends. Friend vibes do not negate love vibes. In a relationship, y’all wouldn’t just kiss and get each other breakfast and be cutesy and romantic. Y’all would talk about dumb ish and send each other memes at one in the morning and stay up talking about plotting political revolutions too. 

Also, Kass, friends who want to stay friends don’t give each other romantic vibes ever. Period. You might act “romantic” with a friend as a joke, but it’s a very clear difference between joke romantic and actual romantic and you would be able to tell. If you feel like this dude likes you, there’s a good good chance he does. 

And I just want to say, it’s honestly really hard to see these things when you’re in your situation. He could be waving a big flag that says “Kass I like you” and you probably still wouldn’t be completely sure, because that’s really how it do be. You will never be one hundred percent sure until he says those words.

I also think you’re tripping yourself up a little bit here by putting a lot of pressure on both him and you. I know he’s your first love, but that doesn’t mean he has to be your only love or your end game. And I am saying this from a place that is literally exactly like yours- my bf was my first crush, and it felt like the stakes were higher with him because he was the first. Like my romance with him, my relationship with him, needed to be perfect. This wasn’t just guy number two, or guy number seven, this was guy number one! I’d remember him forever! And it would be even better if I could end game him because then it’s like damn, look, I did what most people can’t say they did; first crush, first love, only end game. But that is soooo much pressure and it drains you, man. If he’s not the one, he’s not the one. He could be! He could not be! But you just letting your love for him simmer while he doesn’t know it is not good for you! At this point, you’re building up an image of him and falling for that image and basically developing a relationship with what you think he’ll be like. I mean, for God’s sake, you’re in love with him- even I don’t love my boyfriend and I’m dating him.

Like you’re so deep into it, and he might not even know that you like him. You should be developing your relationship with him IRL, in a romantic relationship. Hell, at this point, if it makes you more comfortable, you and I can set up a discord call and I’ll be there to support you as you call/text your mans to tell him how you feel.

This kind of thing really does just need to be laid out on the table. If he cares about you that much as a friend, he’ll stay friends with you even if he’s not into you. And if not, that’s his loss, because he never cared about your friendship as much as you did. But don’t go into it with that attitude! Go into it with the attitude that he’ll say yes! He probably will!
