In Ascending order from worst to best: (god I wish you could put this behind a keep reading, my sincerest apologies to everyone) Nevada--This really ought to be freaking obvious lol. He is a drug lord, a crime kingpin, my trash fucking daddy, he fucking threw a kid off a bridge this is not a nice man.

Riff Raff--The only reason I'm putting him above Nevada is that, you know what, we don't actually know that much about him, he *might be a secret sweetheart. I personally doubt it but hey, you never know.

Jonas--He has the capacity for sweetness. Deep, *deep* down. He just, you know, doesn't exercise it. Ever. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am, never calls again lol.

Esteban--He is a dickhead. Literally the worst. He is awful and I love him, but he would get altogether too much personal enjoyment out of knowing he was popping someone's cherry lol.

Bobby--Entering "eh, about average" territory here. Not good, not bad, just, you know, maybe is a little more careful than he would be normally.

Bryan--Still in average territory, definitely more careful because he is ridiculously conscious of Illinois' consent laws and never wants any of that kind of drama fucking up his frankly perfect like, thank you very much.

Jackson--Still average, getting better though. Is a biiit of a selfish butthole, but mostly a decent person who really does care about people.

Rafael--I have my doubts that he would even do this, personally. He strikes me as the "mmm, nope" kind of guy. But if he did he would also be conscious of all the ways this could backfire for him and his career and thus would be very, very solicitous. He has a sterling reputation to protect. (And he isn't actually as much of a jackass as he wants the world to think he is, okay.)

Frederick--Would go all fucking out on making it the best experience possible. Not because he is a nice or particularly caring individual. But EXCLUSIVELY to show the fuck off and attempt to be the one man all other partners are compared to for the rest of the person's sexual history. Because he is a showy fucking bastard and would want all the acclaim that he could have from being "the perfect lover". I love you Freddy, never change.

Paul--Honestly wonderful because he seems like a genuinely sweet guy. A bit of a dope, still prone to making butthead decisions, but when tasked with something important he wouldn't drop that ball.

Alfredo--100% perfect. A perfect, sweet, wonderful boy. Sweeter than all of them combined. I challenge anyone to find someone better suited to this task. I'll wait.

Penny Dreadful post-finale first thoughts

So ok first off... damn, that ending got me. There are things I have issues with, for sure, but the ending itself was beautifully done, and honestly there was just a lot that gave me feelings: the cinematography, the fun fight choreography, the acting...

I really did love where all the characters ended, I think. Dorian’s ending, even if he wasn’t part of the actual end, stands out as such a perfect goodbye for that character. Even with everything else, I keep going back to him and that final shot. I’m so happy the whole “family” got back together for the final battle; their stories have been way too separated all season, especially Victor’s, so just having them bump into each other on the way to the final showdown might’ve been a biiit convenient but it’s something I was definitely willing to forgive so he could be there. Ethan and Malcolm continuing on as each other’s family in the end, figuring out who to be now that they’re done defining themselves by other people or divine missions, works well enough, and even the show ending with Vanessa’s death... honestly? Makes total sense to me.

But I really hate how they went about it.

I’m just coming off the episode now so I might have more detailed/coherent thoughts on it later, but first impressions are that it just felt... empty. Like. I understand her needing to die to save the world. There’s a beautiful tragedy in that, and this show is all about beautiful tragedies. A purely happy ending wouldn’t have worked for this story. And ending with her in the ground, at peace, with Frankenstein’s eternal “monster” standing over her grave was a heartwrenching final shot. But I’m just... I don’t know, I don’t really feel like the scene itself, the actual death scene, earned it. No fault in the acting -- the actors delivered -- but at the same time I don’t really feel like... Ethan was... necessary? Vanessa pretty much seemed decided on her course of action when he walked in. She wasn’t someone enjoying what she’d become, reveling in the darkness, or even justifying her choice as a kind of misery loves company, and needing to be talked down. It just sort of came off as her waiting around -- while the literal apocalypse happened outside btw, thousands of people dying in the streets (and also... why? Just because she was dating Dracula? Because it didn’t seem like she was particularly doing anything to cause it, and... the entire rushed apocalypse was just... but that’s a thought for another time maybe. What was I actually talking about...) -- just hanging out killing time with the candles until Ethan could show up and shoot her?

Because honestly if all it was going to take to save the world was Vanessa dying, and if she was already resolved to die (and, to me, it felt like that’s what she wanted, what she’d decided on before he walked in)... that’s something she could’ve done herself. Yes, there’s that “beautiful tragedy” in him being the one to do it, and their destinies are intertwined blahblah etc, but if Vanessa really wanted to let it end, she could’ve just killed herself at any point instead of waiting on him to do it. Nothing he said, from what I could tell, caused her to decide on that course of action or convinced her of anything.

So Vanessa dying somehow makes sense to me, and I understand that the show had to rush into wrapping everything up so they couldn’t have an extended dark-Vanessa or redemption arc, but I feel like there were a thousand quick ways they could’ve pulled off that same ending that would’ve been a lot more earned and satisfying. Maybe she does go full dark side for a minute, either genuinely or in some kind of fucked up, self-destructive way. Maybe she’s there in the main room for that final battle, walks in after all the underlings are dispatched and right as Dracula is about to attack... and tells him to stand aside, goes after her old friends herself. Maybe meaning it at first, or maybe just trying to goad the others into killing her a la Faith in the first season of Angel. She’s standing over Malcolm, choking the life out of him with her magic, til Ethan has no choice but to take that fatal shot. She collapses and he runs to her, cradling her, breathing tearful, shaky apologies, but her expression is all soft now, a gleam of peace in her eyes, as she lifts a bloody hand to his cheek, cradling it gratefully before going limp. 

Or maybe it’s the total opposite direction, maybe she hadn’t really given herself over to Dracula at all. Maybe she did what Cat suggested and became a spy, so that she could somehow get close enough to not only take out Dracula but Lucifer as well. Which maybe she does (not killing him, that could be a bit much, but sealing him away from interfering on earth somehow. Maybe that could even be what the death fog was, her opening a gateway to hell to get close enough to stop him). But in the end, after trying to stop him, she realizes that the only way to end it is for her to die, and then we could have a similar scene to the one we got. Just... with her actually doing something else first.

...I didn’t actually mean for this entire post to become about Vanessa. But that’s just what my brain keeps going back to, sadly. The wasted potential of her turn and the why of her sacrifice. What changed between her giving in to Dracula and her asking to die? What was the point of it all? I’m going to let this all rattle around for a bit and then maybe I’ll be able to come back and talk about some of the other endings and overall thoughts of the show.

Thoughts on the... latest episode of Sanders Sides?

Without spoilers: I found the video pretty fun, and it touched on a important subject w/ a good moral at the end paired w/ some ways to combat it. Though... I’m unlikely to watch it again honestly? It was good, but, I’ll definitely be able to glean my fix for related content from the fandom from now on and don’t really wanna re-subject myself to some of the content.

I’ma be talkin some destructive thoughts, a bit commentary on the gore & innuendo and of course, spoilers after this cut so, fair warning. (also I get kinda rambley so it’s a bit long)

Ok, honestly this video touched on something I’ve more or less been fretting about for a while. (and, FUNNILY ENOUGH, had considered making a post about such kinda intrusive thoughts yesterday so like- Look at how these things coincide.)

I’ve had the sudden thought to jump out of a multi-story building’s window so much that I’m just used to it, like Thomas said he was used to the jumping out of moving cars thought. The worse ones though.... they physically pain me. (tho... I also do have sympathetic pain so- maybe it’s partly that) And because of that I tend to revisit them just on the fact that it Hurts. It’s like a splinter you can’t get out.... leave it alone long enough and you can’t feel it, but as soon as you brush against it, you just keep rubbing at it as you try and find those tweezers.

The whole ‘thoughts don’t define you, actions do’ moral certainly helped me reaffirm that I’m not Bad for simply Thinking about these things. And there was actually some really good advice on how to handle it in that episode too. It makes me pretty confident in my ability to handle them a bit better next time they pop up. (even if I absolutely refuse to talk about them Out Loud- tho it does kinda make me want to revisit that idea I had about having a more.... gory side-blog so I Do have a place to just Vent about it without worrying about it.)

(One caveat is that the Word Stuck in my Brain is ‘Murder’ and has been in my head since yesterday but that video has certainly helped solidify it to the Word of the Week...... which is fun.)

Tho.... I got So out of my depth w/ more than half of the dirty jokes Remus blurted out that I began to just... tune his voice out. My innocence level reached it’s peak and I just didn’t understand so much and I was like: “Yea yea I’m pretty sure I don’t need to know what any of what he’s saying means.”

It’s a good voice to tune out. I’m gonna start putting all my unwelcome thoughts in that voice. Might help.

seungmin just runs around in the middle of the battlefield with NO strategy

and jeongin is jeongin. he’s too precious for changbin’s lethality

so that leaves hyunjin. he’s the right amount of talk-y (yes that’s now a word), he has gr8 gameplays, he can handle a multiple-person attack AND he can be really frickin’ ruthless at times
