Donquixote Rosinante 'Corazon' with a Monster Hunter s/o
Decided to take a crack at One Piece for this one using some Monster Hunter. You don't need to know much about Monster Hunter, if anything from this genre comes up I'll help fill in the holes at the bottom. Can be read as Gender Neutral or preferred gender.
You met Corazon during a quest at the mountainous Arctic Ridge. It was a simple mission of gathering herbs and ore. You weren't alone with your monster pal tagging along: a Goss Harag.
Now imagine your surprise seeing a very tall man bleeding out on top the snow covered peak. The sight being enough to cut your mission short and help the poor bloke.
Quickly treating his injuries, your large snow oni beast pal quickly gotten the both of you down the mountain safely.
Your quarry didn't wake up until the next day once he had been taken back to your warm hut in the wilderness.
He seemed taken aback that he was alive than where he was. The man introduced himself as 'Corazon' and told his part of the story.
Hearing that his own brother shot him dead and might be from a different world had been jarring but you were kind enough to fill him in on his new situation. Especially considering your Goss Harag poked their head through the window and scared the man shitless.
Once you explained to him about the basics of your world and what a monster hunter was, Corazon wished to help you out. Both out of curiosity and for saving his life.
He'd admit he was honestly shocked that he still retain his Calm-Calm Fruit powers. A good boon when it came to quests that silence was needed the most. The monsters of your world could give even Marine Admirals a run for their money.
Corazon learned quite a lot about you over a short time thanks to his experience as a spy. You were an oddity capable of communicating and befriending monsters. Most of your weapons and armor were crafted from materials gifted by the various beasts you bonded with.
He was absolutely dumbfounded seeing a large dragon like beast pluck a few of its scales to give to you or your world's equivalent of a Lapin traded part of its catch with ya.
That kindness had no bounds. You always made sure he was comfortable and felt safe. His clumsiness wasn't something you didn't mind and often tend to any injuries he got.
Remodeling the house and furniture to suit his much taller frame. Made him clothes that not only fit him but also made it harder to damage. Corazon never felt properly pampered before. Especially out of willingness considering his bloodline.
Despite their intimidating appearance, your Goss Harag was a big sweetheart. The large beast often snuggling next to him to keep cool against the blistering heat. Corazon had been on the receiving end of the Snow Oni Beast's grooming sessions.
It taken time for him to realize that he had feelings for you. So one day, Corazon went out on a solo quest of his own without your knowledge.
When he'd came back with his harsh burns, you nearly had a heart attack. Especially when the blonde said about fighting a red winged lion with horns, Corazon had picked a fight with a bloody Elder Dragon: Teostra.
You were ready to scold him when he handed you something. It was a necklace with the most beautiful gem inside: a ruby peppered with fiery orange sparkles inside, a Teostra Gem.
It was here that Corazon told you his true feelings. You whacked him on the head at first but you did admit that you felt the same way.
He did get scolded and a grooming session from your Goss Harag but the man didn't regret his impromptu mission.
And that's it. Nearly every anime fan has their own favorite clown man, most having Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter. I never really had one until One Piece introduced Corazon. I love this big blonde klutz of an assassin and felt so robbed with his death. Fuck you Donflamingo.
If you guys are wondering, yes this is set after Corazon gave his life to save Law. There probably be a few more of these in the future. Until next time folks, have some info.
Goss Harag, known as Snow Oni Beast or Limb Reaper:
An ice element monster that lives in harsh cold areas. They're extremely powerful and can suck in cold air to freeze its bodily fluids. It then sprays those fluids on its arms to form large icy blades with unique effects. When angered, it turns red and becomes even more dangerous.
Teostra, known as Flame King Dragon or Emperor of Flame:
A fire element monster and Elder Dragon that prefers very hot areas like deserts or volcanoes. This aggressive and territorial beast can breath hot fire alongside producing an aura of flame. It releases explosive powder from it's scales and ignites it to create massive explosions.
Elder Dragons- Monsters referred to as walking forces of nature. Capable of unbelievable damage and rumored to be able to end the world if left unchecked.

Navi: Chapter 1 — Chapter 2 — Chapter 3 — Chapter 4 — Chapter 5 — Chapter 6 — Chapter 7 (7/7)
There were things you never thought you would have to do, things that made you realise the absurdity of your position, the complete stupidity of the circumstances.
Real people don’t need to handle this. Real people live banal lives, date, fall in love, break up. Or get married, have kids, grow up and grow old together.
Real people aren’t awake at four am because their crush’s date is mewling from the opposite side of the apartment.
You didn’t want to ask yourself questions.
You wanted to sleep and possibly wake up cold. That is, dead.
She mewled. Of course, not actually cat sounds but rather that kind of small, shy squeals that usually mean “I’m shy but I love whatever this person is doing”.
You didn’t allow yourself to dig into that.
You just turned to the other side and pressed the spare pillow against your head, trying to mute the sounds — and maybe mute your thoughts in the process.
Maybe accidentally suffocate yourself.
It was ridiculous.
This had happened about a month ago, with reversed roles — you being the squealer and Seokjin being the unfortunate listener.
You wondered whether he had felt just like you were feeling at that moment.
You thought about wearing your headphones and blasting some music. You thought about rushing out of the apartment and smashing the door on your way out.
You knew you had no one to call, no one who could rescue you at four am on a winter night, sheltering you from the shards of your heart precipitating and stabbing your guts.
Maybe you were allucinating. Maybe it was the sound of your pulse getting too loud because you didn’t trust yourself breathing without emitting a sob.
No, it was the headboard. There was no other way to explain the thumping.
You turned and grabbed your phone, sending a hopeless shout in the void. Just a text to the one most likely to answer, even though the chances were pretty thin.
Are you awake? Perhaps?
The thumping subdued.
Your vision blurred as you stared and stared, occasionally tapping the screen and praying for a miracle.
You thought you had fallen asleep, trapped in a nightmare, when a small bubble appeared.
On the hunt. We’re just back from Mulbreigh field. I guess you’re home?”
You shook yourself up and got moving, not even caring to keep quiet. The thumping had resumed, and so had the mewling.
At Ginger’s in five.
Gotcha.
You did exit the apartment in a few minutes, grabbing just the bare necessities, and closing the door quietly.
By now you were familiar with nightly runaways.
And you were also familiar with the trio headed toward you.
“Buttercup, is that you?” A calm, familiar voice asked.
“Joon?”
“Yeah, it’s us. We have just one field left.” He said. “We’re hoping to get the last one in time for the meteor shower.”
You raised your eyebrows. “There’s a meteor shower tonight?”
The other man at Namjoon’s side was a vet from a city nearby, who occasionally helped him track new wild animals that inhabited the area. “Yes. At around five am. It will be barely visible, but it will be there. Nice to see you, Buttercup.”
“Hello Marcus, always a pleasure.” You said kindly, still shaking your head at the nickname. Shortly after, you noticed the third man greeting you. “Hi Buttercup!”
“Hello Guk!” You said. “How many did you find?”
“We found three owls and got them chipped and registered. And we found a new fox, just out of Mulbreigh. We’re going to track him or her soon, hopefully. No wolves, fortunately.”
You smiled. “That’s good news!” You said enthusiastically, thinking about how the farmer would have menaced those. The four of you walked toward the last location, taking a long path stretching north.
“We’re hoping to find deers, honestly. Remember when we found that doe, last year? Apparently she found a way to remove her tracker and we’re hoping we can keep her monitored, just in case she has more fawns this year.” Marcus explained, at which you nodded in interest.
Staying focused allowed you to remove some thoughts from your mind, but at the same time you kept yourself out of their way, letting the experts work, following them from a distance as they combed the field and placed pheromones signals around the area, hoping to attract the doe to the trees near the field, where it was easier to find her traces and where it was potentially easier to catch her.
“There’s no point going on here,” commented Marcus. “We can only wait. It might take weeks.”
Namjoon huffed and nodded. “Oh, there!” He said, pointing up. A white sign resembling a scratch slashed the horizon in the west, Jeongguk whipping his head in the direction, his pretty eyes widening in wonder as he saw one more shooting star zoom through the sky lighting up at dawn in such delicate shades, from rose to periwinkle to deep royal blue.
For a moment you stared at the sky, feeling its immensity, peace and beauty heal you slowly and steadily. How could such tiny human matters affect its infinity? You let your eyes drown in the greatness of everything, with the snowcaps rimmed in gold in the distance, and the meteors becoming invisible as the sky finally became too bright.
“Guk, Buttercup, why don’t you head home while me and Marcus drive back at the cabin and finish up the paperwork?” Namjoon suggested, by now extremely used to his routine.
Jeongguk looked intermittently at you and Namjoon, adorably confused before he nodded.
“Okay.” He agreed.
You smiled timidly before thanking him, the two of you starting your walk back to town. It was a thirty minute trek, at worst, but you were both fast walkers and in twenty-five you reached his small house. Bibby, his large, scary dog — who of course is a sweetheart, just like his owner — welcomed both of you, the oversized puppy throwing himself at you and barking just once before Jeongguk shushed him.
“How come you joined us?” Jeongguk asked, uncapping his orange juice bottle and pouring a glass, offering you some while you shook your head and declined politely.
You crossed your arms, your stance becoming defensive. You fidgeted and tried to speak, starting a couple times before stopping and starting again, trying to build an actual sentence.
Jeongguk looked at you and waited patiently. He was familiar with the blabbering, stuttering and reformulating.
“Okay. Don’t say this to Yoongi, but… Yeah, he took Grace home last night— That is, he brought her to the apartment and they… Slept together?” You said, your voice so squeaky by the time you said the final word.
“And by ‘sleeping’ you mean everything but, right?” Jeongguk asked tactfully.
You nodded and looked at the floor, busying yourself petting Bibby.
“I’m so sorry, Buttercup.” He said, coming close to you and caressing your back soothingly.
You didn’t have the energies to cry. You probably would, in a while, after waking up.
“You need some sleep, don’t you, Buttercup?” Jeongguk asked, patting your head.
Again you replied wordlessly, moving your head in approval.
“Bibby is a great nap buddy, and I can get the futon ready and let you sleep there.” He reassured you, already fluffing up the pillows and grabbing an extra blanket.
“I’d like to sleep on the sofa, please?” You said, sitting down and removing your shoes, Bibby immediately getting interested in your wiggling toes.
“Oh, you’d like that?” He asked in surprise, “try it first, I can still get the futon ready if you don’t like this old guy.” He joked about the piece of furniture.
You laid on your side, wiggling a little as you found the right position. “Can do.” You said with a barely-there smile. “Thank you, Guk.”
“It’s okay.” He said, throwing the blanket on top of you. “This one is just for guests. I washed it last weekend, don’t worry.” He reassured you.
Knowing Jeongguk, you didn’t even mind. He is a neat freak and a tattoo artist: cleanliness means everything to him. “Can I seriously keep Bibby?” You asked, soft eyed.
He beamed and nodded. “He only sleeps on the sofa.” He said proudly and, as if following his owner’s praise, Bibby climbed on the cushions, curling up in the space before you and laying his head on your arm, using it as a pillow.
You giggled and scratched the spot behind his ear.
“Ask me if you need anything.” Jeongguk murmured. “I’ll leave my door open, just in case you need help or something.” He commented sweetly, closing the blinds to the several windows before walking to the kitchen and coming back to you, placing a bottle of water close to you.
He noticed Bibby was already asleep and he caressed the dog’s head before whispering “sleep tight”.
You heard him leave the room. You closed your eyes, feeling Bibby’s lungs inflate and deflate regularly, his heartbeat strong, his short fur velvety and relaxing under your fingertips.
You fell asleep like a baby.
Waking up meant a lot of things happening altogether.
Realising Bibby was in your arms.
Realising you were on Jeongguk’s sofa.
Realising you were heartbroken and that the idea of going back home nauseated you so deeply you couldn’t even remotely consider it.
Jeongguk greeted you from the kitchen. “You’re up, Buttercup!” He cheered, while Bibby turned around and placed his big head under your chin, shading his eyes. He always marvelled you with his curious manners. “It’s midday, would you like brunch?”
You sniffed the air. Bacon and eggs.
“Yes, please.”
Bibby seemed to follow your lead, sniffing the air and running to his owner, acting way faster than you.
“Okay, what do we wanna do?” Jeongguk asked once you were both seated at the kitchen table.
You ate some food, chewing quietly as you thought. You took your time.
“Honestly, I don't feel like going home, I guess.” You said, staring at your dish. You felt a bit lost.
“We can hang out. Watch TV, meet the guys, do anything you want.” Jeongguk said.
“I was thinking of… No, it's okay, I should go home.”
“But you don't want to.” Jeongguk opposed.
“No, but I don't want to go back later tonight and find myself dreading sleeping in my room.” You said. You couldn't explain the emptiness in your stomach as you thought of the room.
“You know you can stay here as long as you want, right? I have a spare room. We can put the futon there.” He said touching your hand.
That small sentence felt like the water threatening to drown you was slowly lowering.
“I don't want to abuse your kindness.” You admitted shyly, softly.
“I am your friend. It is my duty to help you” He reassured you.
You mulled over your various possibilities. “Okay. But I'd like to go home and grab some stuff. Maybe they're not around.” You considered, looking at Jeongguk doubtfully.
“It's okay. We can go together.”
You exhaled in relief.
Standing in front of the apartment door, you took a deep breath, Jeongguk rubbing his hand between your shoulder blades, over your jacket.
You could already hear them laughing and chatting.
You slipped the keys into the lock and opened the door.
“I'll wait here, yes?” Jeongguk reassured you.
You nodded and went in, walking to your room hesitantly, only to be completely overwhelmed by the sight in the kitchen.
Jin was standing behind Grace, helping her prepare his special avocado sandwich, an elaborate mug topped with whipped cream and crushed almonds waiting beside her while the breakfast table was filled with any kind of breakfast and brunch food one could only dream of.
However, what truly unsettled you was Grace, wearing an oversized shirt — Jin's — bare-legged, with Granny's thick handmade socks covering her feet and calves.
Seokjin said something in her ear and she giggled cutely, throwing her head back and leaning into his shoulder.
They ignored you completely, caught in their happy bubble, while you hid slightly.
You refused to hold on, rushing back to the front door.
Jeongguk spoke softly. “Where's your stuff?”
You shook your head.
“I'm coming with you.” He said, placing his hand on the small of your back and leading you inside, closing the door noisily.
“Hello, we're here.” He called loudly, bringing the two of you to the kitchen.
Seokjin's eyes zeroed in to the place the man's voice had come from, spotting you instead.
So this is it, he thought.
He. Grace.
You. Jeongguk.
Jeongguk?
His jaw contracted.
“Buttercup came by to grab some things. It won't take long, will it, sweets?”
You widened your eyes at him and shook your head. “Yes, sure.”
You almost ran to your bedroom, picking up the most basic stuff to spend a night out and to head off to lessons the following morning.
In the bathroom, you collected your toothbrush and beauty products before returning to the kitchen, your bag ready.
“Good to go, sweets?” He questioned, looking at you with his expressive, gleeful eyes.
You nodded and gave him the tiniest of smiles. “Let's go.”
Jeongguk turned towards Jin and Grace. “Have a nice afternoon, goodbye!” He greeted, letting you wave at the two before dragging you out, not before offering Seokjin a smug grin and winking.
Wearing that mask took a toll on him. He hated what Seokjin had done to you through the years, acting like a protective older brother without being one. He hated that the man kept you emotionally busy and never let you out of his influence. Most of your past relationships had dramatically been brought to an end by Seokjin's asphyxiating presence, by the incapability of your partners to rival with your best friend.
He had ruined you for everyone else, and Jeongguk couldn't find any words to define how cruel that was.
“Are you doing okay, Buttercup?” He asked.
You smiled a bit coldly.
“I'm sorry you had to see that.” He opened the door and let you in, Bibby welcoming the both of you.
“It's okay. They've been dating for more than a month now. He's been by himself for a long time–”
“But he had you!” Jeongguk objected as he took off his jacket.
Your mouth stretched sadly. “Not like that.”
Jeongguk scrunched his nose in disappointment. “Okay. You know I’ve had the biggest crush over you. And we know that by now it’s just water under the bridge. And maybe I never told you but it was so easy to get over you — no offence — since to me, actually to all of us, you and Jin have always belonged to each other. It’s canon. Anyone else would be wrong for the two of you. Obviously.”
You completely ignored Jeongguk’s mention of those old feelings. You already knew; it was all water under the bridge — just like he said — and the two had discussed it years ago. Instead, you focused on the belonging part. “He has Grace now. They’ve been dating for what? Six weeks?”
“He’s been in love with you for four years!” Jeongguk said, slightly upset.
“Well, apparently he didn’t do a great job of showing that! And it doesn’t matter now. He has Grace.” You repeated.
“The two of you are so stupidly dumb, I need to call Yoongi.” Jeongguk said, absolutely frustrated.
Silence lingered heavy in the room, like a thick fog. “Don’t call Yoongi, please.” You said, sitting on the sofa and curling up in a ball. “He’ll scold me and then snap at Jin and then Spice will kill all of us for stressing him and interrupting their kinky Sunday afternoon.”
Jeongguk startled and put down the phone. “Kinky Sunday afternoon? Is that a thing?”
“With Spice, anything is a thing, especially if it means alone time with Yoongi.” You explained, scratching your nose and hugging Bibby as he got on the sofa.
“Okay. Let’s think about happier, less traumatising things. Do you wanna watch some TV? I have some Disney DVDs from when Namjoon comes over. No Bambi and Dumbo because those make him cry.” Jeongguk said, exposing his friend shamelessly. “And I don’t want to pay for Disney plus, Yoongi would disown me and I would never tattoo him anymore and I don’t want that.”
You giggled, completely endeared. “Do you think you have Tangled?”
“Oh, yes!” Jeongguk checked the case and placed the CD in his PlayStation. “Namjoon loves Pascal. The chameleon.” Jeongguk gushed, sitting on the sofa, switching on a small lamp. “Oh, would you like some popcorn?” He asked, ever friendly and welcoming.
You smirked before nodding.
Pausing the film, he dashed to the kitchen, getting a bag into the microwave and coming back five minutes later with a large bowl, the whole room smelling of salted butter.
You hummed in approval and settled down, Bibby miraculously uninterested in the snack. He restarted the film and your mind got completely absorbed by that.
Seokjin was confused.
He had accompanied Grace home, and now he sat in an empty room — an empty house —, looking at the opposite end of the table, where you weren’t sitting.
Did you sleep with Jeongguk for revenge?
Did you maybe talk to him and he made his move and you said ‘why not’, just like you had with that dude almost a month ago?
Maybe you liked him. Maybe you had always liked him and the two of you had confessed — he had a different gleam in his eyes and he had called you ‘sweetie’ or some other dumb nickname like that.
He should have confessed. He should have stopped hiding his head in his ass and should have grown a pair and told you, Buttercup, I’m so far gone that I’d be ready to serve you for the rest of my life, hell, I’d even donate you my sperm if your husband was infertile and you wanted kids. I’d even give up a kidney, fuck, I’d give up my heart too for you.
He was a dumb, stupid fucker.
He wrote you a text.
I’m sorry about fucking Grace, please come home.
Erased
Please come home. We need to talk. I’m in love with you.
Erased
Don’t fuck Jeongguk, you can fuck me instead, please.
Erased
He realised he always wrote ‘please’, and the more he went on, the more he needed to add.
He tried to stop overthinking everything and focused on the actual reality of it all.
He stared at your empty seat again.
Are you coming home for dinner?
Sent
The silence felt eternal.
That must be how space rovers feel, he thought, thinking about that tiny robot that wandered over the surface of Mars all alone.
He felt like the whole apartment couldn’t possibly be home anymore.
He shook his head, telling himself he was being melodramatic. After five minutes, he decided to call you. You always answered texts about food! You knew how much it meant to him eating together!
With renewed tenacity, he found your contact at the very top of the list, three A’s added before your name to make sure it always stayed on top of the list.
And he called you.
The beeping sound of the call ringing went on for ages. He swore he could feel his hair grow and his skin wither.
He waited maybe for a bit less than a minute, his mind already knowing that you were upset with him, that you were making him wait and grovel. You were trying to get on his nerves. Most definitely.
The ringing stopped.
“What is it?”
It was Jeongguk.
“Is she with you?” Seokjin asked, cold as ice.
“Yes. Of course.”
“When is she coming home?” Jin asked dryly. He felt ready for a fight.
“When she wants to.” Jeongguk replied equally dryly.
“Give her the phone.”
Jeongguk breathed heavily. He didn’t want to pass the phone to you. Seokjin had no right claiming you like that, using that voice, acting so mean when he was the one at fault. “She’s sleeping.” It was true. You were really sleeping; you had completely crashed at the end of the cartoon, with Bibby keeping you warm and covering you in affection, never leaving your side. After all, some dogs have a sense of smell so fine that they can sniff at their owner’s skin and perceive the hormones making their human happy or sad.
Seokjin waited, trying to calm himself down. It didn’t work. “I bet you’re gloating. You finally have her, don’t you? You must be feeling so smug.”
Jeongguk stretched his neck, keeping his composure. “I don’t have her, okay? She came to me and I gave her space. I gave her somewhere safe—”
“Our home is safe.” Jin growled. “Here is safe.”
“With you breaking her heart by banging that girl you don’t love?”
“She also banged a man she didn’t give a shit about.”
Jeongguk raised his eyebrows. “Did you bang Grace for revenge, then?”
“No. God, I’ve been alone for years, can’t I have one good thing?” Seokjin almost screamed, his frustration spilling over.
“Maybe she banged him to get over you. Maybe she did that because she’s tired of being alone, too.” Jeongguk explained, his tone glacial. His anger was scary — it didn’t explode or break. It froze everything it touched. “You hurt her. The moment you chose Grace, and with every date you went on. When you went to her on Valentine’s, when you banged her the other night. And there’s a difference. The dude she banged? That was just sex. But you and Grace? There are feelings there. That’s the part she can’t stand. This morning, when she saw the two of you in the kitchen? You broke her heart, Jin. She was broken—”
“But you fixed that, didn’t you, sweetie?” He teased, sarcastic and poisonous.
“Stop talking about my feelings for her.” Jeongguk chastised him. “Unlike you, I told her. I told her I had had a crush for her. I told her three years ago and I also told her that my feelings died down once I realised how she looked at you and how you looked at her. And we’re friends, we’re cool. I would never be able to look at her like anything more than a sister.”
Seokjin shut his mouth. He felt horrible. Maybe because he was horrible. He needed your sparkly laugh and your soothing touch. To talk things out about last night. Make everything right again. “Please, convince her to come home.”
Jeongguk tutted. “I won’t. She’ll come if she wants to. At her own time.”
“Jeongguk...” Seokjin begged.
“You both need to move on from this toxic bond. And there’s no way other than separating. Physically first, and emotionally second.” Jeongguk reasoned, repeating something he and Yoongi had discussed a thousand times.
“She is my friend.”
“You’re not hers, though. You are the person she loves, and the person hurting her. She deserves a real chance, away from you.” Jeongguk rubbed the crown of his head. “I have to go. Goodnight.”
He hung up.

I love every single Girl Of The Year so I'm gonna try and rate them fairly. Its a long post so its all under the cut! Note: I came back up after writing I tried to censor myself but I did swear a bit. Sorry if that really isn't your thing.
Lindsey: 8.5/10, I'm really surprised she didn't sell well at her time, she's very unique and her small collection really wraps up her personality and vibes well. She's so pretty! Her computer is really cool as I was born after 2001 so I never got to see stuff like that. I would have docked points since her collection was so small but they already struggled to sell the doll so I get it. Also I didn't find out until very recently that she's Jewish,, why is this not talked about more?
Kailey! 10/10 ok I know she's a blonde but I remember in the early 2000s having a beach hobby was very heavily tied to being blonde. Like I swear it was a thing. I literally love her so much, we need more light haired dolls with brown eyes. Also her collection is so nice! It's got really soothing colors and the beach theme is really pretty
Marisol 9/10, ok I'm definitely weird for this but to me the vibes of her meet outfit don't match some of her outfits from her collection and it really throws me off. Otherwise she's a gorgeous doll and I love her meet outfit so much. Her jazz trunk and cat live rent free in my mind.
Jess: 10/10, she gave us the Jess mold! She and her collection are so unique and cool! I seriously love it all, I just want to pick it up and stare at it. It's so full of life and has good energy. Also Jess is such a cool doll, her outfit and hair are iconic to me
Nicki!: 11/10, she's a cowgirl with pretty hair and I love her so goddam much. I know she was also a skier and she trained a service dog which is honestly such a good and different hobby but my brain blocks that out sometimes. I love how well rounded and pretty she is. She gives me good memories of my trips to Tennessee and Kentucky with my family.
Mia: 7/10, she will probably be the lowest rated. I wish she had bright red hair or light brown instead of well strawberry blonde. Her freckles and met outfit are adorable though! Her collection isn't my favorite but her bed is really cool and I love the ice skating theme.
Chrissa, Sonali, and Gwen: 10/10, the critics that a homeless doll costed 98 dollars was a valid critic but otherwise these girls were an amazing look at how different life can be just in one social circle or school. But aside from that I genuinely love them, their story is important to me and I love that they can be best friends but not have any of their stories be dampened. Also all three of the dolls are genuinely gorgeous. Chrissa's collection is so nice. The colors and items are one of my favorites.
Lanie: 9.5/10, ah yes another blonde, but in a time when the sporty, popular preps were blonde and the geeks and nerds were brunettes a science loving blonde was a good spin. But still I understand the oversaturation of blondes is overall just not cool. Anyway, Lanie is what got me into american girl. I have extreme memory issues but I still remember seeing Lanie in the catalog for the first time. I love her science-y, animal loving collection and her met outfit and camper are so beautiful. I love the use of blues, greens, and orange throughout her collection. I love her to bits.
Kanani: 9/10, there's absolutely nothing wrong with her collection, I love the doll, her collection, the representation, but she's already been gushed about a lot and I feel a similar way. Her chair and wake board outfit though *chefs kiss*
Mckenna: 9/10, she was iconic and honestly the most popular doll and no one can tell me otherwise, I wish she had different hair but otherwise she's another great doll. I also love that her collection is all one color aside from her met outfit and one other outfit, it's really fitting. While most of the other girls have calming or pretty vibes she gives the energy of a feral 13 year nonbinary kid with Adhd and its so much fun. I was that kid and had friends like that and it made the best memories.
Saige: 9.8/10, SHES SO PRETY. Literally no flaws to her what so ever. Her collection is so good, the vibes are top tier. I gotta say, why was the air balloon her big ticket item. It just seems like it has no playability for kids or collectors. But otherwise her collection gives me roadtrip vibes and I love it
Isabelle, 10/10, she is so underrated yall. I would say wow another blonde but I think it actually suits her? Like I wouldn't change it. I absolutely adore her collection and her studio is fucking cool. She's got both really chill and really fun vibes, like being at a fair or amusement park as dusk during summer. Love it.
Grace: 8.5/10, the doll absolutely gorgeous, no flaws, love the hair, love the freckles. But her collection, yes it's pretty but it feels like Americanized France instead of actual France. I would have loved to see the actual culture or learn more about France but we just got so many effial towers. Don't get me wrong most of her things are still very cute, the colors are amazing, but still
Lea: 10.5/10: is she a doc? Like not to be offensive, I genuinely don't know. Anyway her collection is also really cool. She's another blonde I wouldn't change. I love the uniqueness of her entire collection. It's so refreshing and cool. Her hut is also awesome. Also the stuffed animals with her collection are so stinking cute. I want everything.
Gabriella: 9/10: UNDERRATED. ok controversial take, even though her collection was recycled, why is that bad? Like Tenneys seems to be as well but she's well loved. Gabriella is an amazing doll with amazing representation and just because she isn't super unique doesn't change the fact that the doll is great. Some of her outfits aren't my favorite but the rest has really cool vibes.
Luciana: 8/10, I'm gonna be honest she's probably my second least favorite. While stilling being a doll I like, with a neat collection. The hype around her is well deserved but a little overwhelming. I wish she got more furniture and clothes instead of just a NASA sponsorship (which is cool but I find it hard to even consider her in my collection she feels special edition and not like the average girl ya know)
Blaire: 9/10, the bee dress and hair are so amazing I'm literally in love, I wish they showed more of the farm instead of her being a wedding planner. Otherwise she's a great doll, the chicken is also great. Very pretty, very cottage core, love it.
Joss: 10/10, I swear everyone kinda blocks out that she does cheer, the surfing is such a cool hobby. Plus her face mold, collection, and representation are honestly one of the best. I don't have big feelings for her, but I recognize she's awesome. I hope I can fall in love with her more she's so cool.
Kira: 8/10, honestly her collection is so cool, I heard some of the patterns on her things were stolen? Or they weren't made correctly? I'm unsure exactly. But otherwise her collection really stepped up the game. Three big sets, with plenty of accessories and outfits. I wish she was sold as a truly me as she is genuinely a gorgeous doll, but she's Kira so I have to judge her like that. She should have looked different. To me she looks to similar to Blaire and Lea. I wish they could have something a bit more unique.
That's all I have to say, have a good day!

"It'll have to do" Katniss muttered under breath after she had re-braided her hair for the fourth time that morning. She took a deep breath in, breathed out hard and studied her reflection in the small mirror above the basin in the female staff bathroom. 8:47 am. Nearly time to roll. Toying idly with the end of her braid she pulled out her go-to 'I'm fabulous' perfect nude lipstick for yet another coat. Letting out a resigned sigh she grabbed her handbag and opened the door quickly.
"Pull yourself together Everdeen" She chastised herself with a heated whisper.
Unfortunately in the heat of scolding herself she hadn't noticed Johanna racing in the door. Her black duster coat whipping behind her.
"Woah there, Nelly! Are you trying to make my hangover worse than it already is?!" Jo gestured to her head, which Katniss was guessing, was pounding.
"Morning to you too Jo" she smiled patting the side of Jo's head sympathetically.
"Wild night?!"
"Wet n wild times K, all the way" Jo drawled winking at her friend. Katniss wrinkled her nose, turned back to the mirror and started toying again with her braid.
"So things good with Thresh still?"
"That man has moves that out-sex even Gloss" Jo replied pulling out her black kajal liner from her bag with the smirk of a cat who had recently had her fair share of top quality cream.
"Wow; even Gloss the man-whore extraordinaire? Well I guess it must be love," Katniss teased.
"Please." Jo rolled her eyes & applied a heavy line of sooty black in her lower waterline.
"Why are you in here anyway, K? It's almost bell and you don't fuss or primp your hair or makeup. Ever. If I didn't know you better I'd say you were avoiding the soon to be love of your life… or at least a couple of months of good lays."
Exasperated, Katniss grabbed her handbag and started fidgeting with the zipper.
"I’m not avoiding him...I just...look...urgh we talked about this yesterday Jo, it's just all so...awkward."
"Oh come on K, it's only awkward because you're turning it into some dumb high school drama á la Delly! It's very simple. He likes you, you like him. You had some weird serendipitous meeting years ago where you hit it off with each other, so? Who cares? Get in his pants already!"
"Always boils down to one thing with you doesn't it Johanna?" Katniss snapped. Johanna glared at her from the mirror.
"Harsh, Everdeen. I'm actually trying to help you bring a bit of happiness into your life but if you're too brainless to see that then fine; stew in your own misery." She picked up her bag & turned to face Katniss.
"If you need me I'll be in the photocopier room. I just saw Mellark on his way to Trinkets room, just a heads up there to aid you in your little avoidance plan. He also asked me if I'd seen you..."
"What did you say?" Katniss asked in a half whisper staring down at the sink. She knew Jo was right, she had to give him and whatever they had or could have, a chance. The whole thing had been gnawing at her all weekend to the point where she couldn't sleep. She wanted to text him but this wasn't a simple case of boy meets girl, boy kisses girl, followed by the obligatory ‘oh so charming’ text games that usually lead to a first date or being ignored. She wanted to speak to him face to face but now the moment was here...she was terrified.
"I said no I hadn't. Besides why do you care? It's all too awkward right?!" Jo huffed back and walked out the door.
The shrill clanging bell rang out breaking Katniss from her thoughts. Oh Shit she slapped her hand to her head. Monday mornings were her half day teaching in D12's kindergarten. The worst part of her week but she had been railroaded into it by Effie who had insisted how good the experience would look on her CPD plan this year although the truth of the matter was that every other staff member had passed up the opportunity to do it and Effie knew she could talk her round by bringing out the guilt inducing 'we need you Katniss' speech. Besides it was that or lunchtime detention duties 2 days a week. At least being there would give her head a break from Peeta mania. Mind you, the prospect of having to face Peeta later on with snot stains on her clothes and paint on her shoes didn't exactly thrill her either. Feeling a little more relaxed Katniss walked down the old rickety stairwell down into the main lobby, kindergarten bound. The years had not been kind to D12's main building, built in 1936 the red sandstone three storey building looked impressive from the exterior but inside was another story. Leaking roofs, peeling paint and some furniture that hasn't been replaced since Eisenhower meant that the school was often in a dilapidated condition. Mrs Cray wanted to bulldoze the entire building and rebuild but Cressida favoured fund raising events to preserve and fix, what was at its heart, a beautiful building full of character and history.
Katniss was rifling through her bag to find the key card that opened the kindergarten entry door when those smooth molten caramel tones echoed behind her. "Hey Katniss" Oh god. Oh god. Thought I'd at least have a couple of hours before facing him. She breathed out. 1-2-3. Slowly, she turned around, her eyes locking with a motherload of electric blue.
"Hi," she squeaked a little higher pitched than she intended. She cleared her throat trying to find a way to ground herself and not make this anymore awkward than it already was.
"Hi Peeta, hey, um how are you?" Those eyes twinkled and a soft smile crept over his lips.
"Not bad, all the better for seeing you."
If she wasn't so self-conscious she'd swear that Peeta's face flushed slightly. And then… Silence. Say something, say anything!
"Th-thanks you too. Hope the White Russians were kind to you next morning. I felt a little queasy but it wore off. Johanna swears by a Virgin Bloody Mary with her secret recipe hash browns & bacon breakfast. Really does sort you out..." Her voice trailed off as she realised she was in full babbling overload and that Peeta was smiling at her with a look of bemusement.
"I'll need to try that sometime. I personally prefer Cheese buns and a black coffee. I was helping out at the family bakery all day Saturday & that combination saved my ass. Not sure if White Russians were my best idea ever." "No, no they were good." Peeta beamed at her. As she started to feel lost in his eyes again.
"Mr Mellark! Where are you dear?" Effie trilled her clacking heels echoing off the concrete floor as she waltzed into the lobby. Her face a picture of panic as two children from Peeta's class walked sullenly behind her. One covering his nose with a blood stained tissue. "Two of your children have been fighting, yes fighting, in the playground!" She shrieked from behind. Peeta looked behind him and then smiled apologetically at Katniss.
"Sorry, looks like duty calls. Listen are you busy at lunch? I brought in left over cheese buns. I'd..." He hesitated as if trying to gauge what her answer would be. "I'd really like to talk...not to sound all heavy. But I'd like to explain why I didn't tell you what I knew on Friday night."
"I'm sorry I didn't text you Peeta. I, I, sorry it was just a lot to take in."
"Please, don't be – sorry I mean... Kinda figured you'd need some time. Hell, when I saw you for the first time last week, I definitely needed some time to process it all."
That smile, the one that made her melt the first time she had seen it through that crazy green headpiece, beaming at her, was full front and centre.
"Sure... um… meet me here, 12.15? I... I like buns.... cheese ones, I mean." She closed briefly her eyes cringing at her last statement. Learn to talk Everdeen.
"Good, good" he grinned, the look of relief pertinent on his face.
"Made by my own fair hand, so they should be tasty enough."
Was he flirting or was this just bakery chit chat?! Whatever it was she was starting to feel extremely warm again.
"Ok, um, I better get to Kindergarten. See you later." She clumsily turned around and gave him a wave.
"Give 'em hell, Dorothy girl" He smirked. Lord.
"I try," she mock sighed, pushing down on the door handle & walking through. Ok it was flirting, she grinned, definite flirting.
*********
"Sweet lord... unh… these are amazing," Katniss groaned and wiped her mouth self-consciously after what was her third cheese bun. Peeta laughed offering her a napkin and carton of orange juice.
"Honestly Peeta, your talents are obviously wasted here in the teaching profession. You bake like a bad ass." She grinned taking the carton. Jesus could I stop babbling at the cheese buns for 1 second and actually focus on the fact that Peeta and I are on a semi date?! And did I just say the phrase 'bake like a bad ass?' Do I now have the oracy skills of a ten year old?! Too many ridiculous questions were swirling around her brain. She took a long drink from the carton. Calm down Katniss, she mentally soothed herself. Not noticing her embarrassment Peeta grinned back at her.
"Ah, why thank you kind lady but I think I'll leave the bad ass for my time in the kitchen and keep the genteel for the classroom."
"Shame," she smiled back meekly. Peeta had been standing waiting for her at 12.15 on the dot outside the nursery doors. To be honest, after 3 hellish hours of dealing with runny noses, (one child has actually wiped his nose on her hand), repeated readings of The Gruffalo including one session where the Gruffalo and fox toy props were thrown across the room, seeing a gorgeous guy with knockout blue eyes holding a paper bag of freshly baked bakery goods was just the tonic. They sat on a bench under the huge willow tree in the front gardens of the school. It hadn't been as awkward as Katniss had worried it would be. Peeta was good at small talk and filling in silences, and just as she remembered from that fateful Halloween night, he always knew the right thing to say. Katniss reached over to take her juice carton, Peeta caught her eye and smiled at her, his cheeks looking slightly pinker than usual. Silence. Damn I spoke too soon. He cleared his throat and crumpled the paper bag causally in his hands.
"Uh Katniss, uh about the other night I..." the assured smooth talking stance seemed to be faltering.
"Yeah?" Katniss prompted.
"Well, ok here goes, I had this all rehearsed in my head and now I've messed it up already." He took a deep breath before continuing. "I like you Katniss. I've liked you since that night at the party. After we met I couldn't stop thinking about you but I was still involved with Cashm... my girlfriend at the time. We weren’t really getting on that well when we met but we had been together since high school and I wanted to make it work. It didn't though and we split up 2 years later. I wish, I had looked for you… God I wish so many things had been different. You were seeing a guy too right?"
"Yeah I was... um Gale. We broke up last year actually." She bit her lip. Where was this going? Did he regret meeting her, was it just too messy for them to even try and start something?
"Oh, I would say I'm sorry but..." He gently placed his hand over hers.
"But?" she breathed out shakily. The warmth of his hand was sending out those jolts of electric charge again.
"Well with no disrespect to Gale, his loss might be my gain?" Katniss smiled shyly, stroking his thumb gently.
"I couldn't believe it when I saw you here, just across the classroom. I wasn't sure if it was you at first. Having been a few years since that night and the fact that you weren't clad in gingham," he laughed softly. "I wanted to tell you at the Med but we were getting on so well and I guess I wanted to see if the same connection was still there, and it was... I felt it."
"I noticed you looking at me but thought maybe it was my imagination," she grinned.
"Why would you think it's your imagination?! You're beautiful. I don't think you know… the effect you have. "
Ok the fact that his head had come closer in proximity was definitely not her imagination. She feeling a little intoxicated. Those eyes and the fact that he had licked his lips were now all she could focus on.
"It's the same effect I felt at that party. It's dazzling, you're dazzling Katniss" He leaned forward, placed his hand on her cheek to cradle her face. His fingers softly grazed her temples. She could get lost in those hits of blue. She felt his breath on her lips, it was going to happen. Fuuucckkkk. She let out a soft squeak as she felt his lips graze hers. Heaven, heaven she sang in her mind. What - what what's that noise?! No, no! She groaned internally as the school bell rang with all its shrill intonations. She opened her eyes, Peeta touched her forehead with his. His fingers still stroking her face.
"Saved by the bell huh?!" He whispered huskily.
"Don't think I'd use the word 'saved' more like cursed," she rolled her eyes and lifted her hand up to stroke the tendrils of hair at the nape of his neck. He laughed and slowly pulled his head away but still holding her hand.
"Probably for the best really. Last thing we need is Effie hauling us into her office for unprofessional conduct."
Katniss laughed picking up her handbag and jacket.
"Hmm.... I think I would have risked it." He smiled bashfully, running a finger slowly from her temples to jaw. She shivered, oh god she was done for.
"Peeta Mellark... you live right on the edge don't you," she teased.
"Oh Miss Everdeen you have no idea," he winked cheekily. They walked up towards the school entrance in a happier much more comfortable silence. She stopped at the foot of the stairs.
"Thanks for lunch Peeta, it was... lovely." She felt her blush creep back with a vengeance.
"You're welcome. My class were in the gym hall for all of lunch. Cressida organised a judo instructor as a treat for their class of the week award. So I better go, and hope none of them try out any of their moves on me."
"Good luck with that," she laughed and started walking up the stairs.
"Uh Katniss...?”
She turned around. Nervous Peeta was back in business. "Would you like to get together one night this week? Dinner, or a movie or both?"
"Sure." Damn. She had gone for casual but it came out rather high pitched again. "I...I could cook dinner if you like, at mine. I'm no cordon bleu but I can whip up a mean Lasagne," she blurted out quickly. Her place?! Did she really say that? What was he going to think?! That she was easy. Learn also when to shut up Everdeen.
"Sounds fantastic. Are you free Friday night? You cook and I'll bring more buns?!"
"Yes: yes to all of the above. Seven a good time? And please do bring your buns, the more the merrier."
Peeta gave her a bemused look. "Yeah 7, I look forward to it and Katniss... my buns are always available," he grinned and walked away towards the gym hall before Katniss could respond. She was glad that wouldn't be able to witness how flustered and warm she had suddenly become again.
She was really going on a date with Peeta Mellark... monster boy... eyes that make all the panties drop. Oh lord she was done for.
******
"Let me be clear, you... Katniss Everdeen... offered up your cooking?! To an innocent victim?!" Madge cackled down the phone line.
"What's wrong with my cooking, I don't remember you complaining when you had the flu and I looked after you for an entire weekend!" Katniss shot back. "Katniss that was mostly grilled cheese sandwiches and heated up pizzas, which you burned!" She continued to laugh.
"Uh no I did not! And that was 6 years ago! I've been practising. Anyway Jo's Lasagne recipe is fool-proof.”
Madge had phoned that night for a catch up and now it had turned into a critical appraisal of her Friday plans with Peeta.
"Ok, ok no more roasting of Katniss, pun intended. At least tell me what you're wearing?"
"I haven't thought about it, jeans maybe, black top."
"Pants on fire K, I know you too well. You're crazy about this guy, but trying to play it cool, your tried and tested defence mechanism against disappointment. Which is mental. It's Peeta friggin' Mellark! He's a gorgeous and a total sweetheart. Why didn't you tell me you guys met at the Halloween party?"
"You know why! Um, long standing boyfriend at the time, you remember him...6 foot 2, dark hair, answered to the name Gale?"
"Har har, I just meant, it would have saved you a lot of time had you guys got together years ago."
"I wasn't going to give up my relationship for a crush on a guy in a monster costume Madge!"
"Uh-huh look how well that turned out."
"I know…" Katniss replied sadly.
"I'm sorry Katniss, that was out of line. Just been a bitch of a day and Adam is driving me nuts." Madge sighed
"Please, it’s us, we always have a get out of jail free cards for crabbiness, especially if it's about men being assholes." Madge and her boyfriend, the same Adam Gloss from the infamous Halloween party, were in the middle of a messy breakup. Adam, at being the dumpee, had recently started behaving a petty and spiteful manner towards Madge resulting in weekly demands for clothes, books, or some other, often insignificant object, that he wanted back from her apartment.
"Thanks. But still I shouldn't take his shitty behaviour out on my best friend. He texted me earlier and demanded a shitty plastic shot glass that he brought me back from Bermuda. Seriously K, I'm so glad I ended it, look at the kind of guy he is. He's certainly no Peeta." She sighed wistfully at the end of the sentence. "Maybe you should date him," Katniss joked.
"Haha! Nuh-huh, I've heard he's got it baaaad for you Everdeen."
"What, please… How do you know that?"
"I have my sources, namely Johanna." Katniss could almost hear her smirking. "And when have you ever listened to Jo?!" She laughed.
"Jo's a little intense but that's half the fun right?! Anyway you still haven't told me what you're wearing? I think you should go and buy a new dress. I'm thinking a sexy black body con style with your hair loose in tousled waves... If I wasn't three hours away by plane l would be coming over and supervising this whole date, instead I'm entrusting Johanna to man the decks."
"Body con Madge? Seriously. It's a low key first date, not dress up like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Besides Glimmer wears all those sultry style clothes and it hasn't impressed Peeta one bit." Katniss bit her lip remembering how all over Peeta Glimmer was at the night out. "That's just not me."
"Ok I know, I know, I'm just so excited for you plus you have an amazing figure Katniss. You should show it off sometime."
"One step at time. Listen Madge gotta run. Call you Thursday night ok. Love you." Katniss walked over and opened the door to Jo.
"You too, say hi to Jo, bye."
After their disagreement in the bathroom Katniss had apologised and provided a peace offering in the form of Chinese food and allowing Jo to bring over a choice selection of possible date outfits.
"You're as bad as Madge!" Katniss groaned later, upon viewing the 2nd outfit in Jo's often inappropriate collection of dresses.
"Madge has got some damn good taste then!" She sniggered running her hand down an obscenely short dark red leather dress.
"No, and that's the end of it. Do you have anything here that is..." She caught Johanna's eye and her challenging expression and she inwardly flinched at possibly starting another row with her.
"That's what K?" Jo replied with slight defiance in her voice.
"Well..." Katniss chose her words carefully. "More... me?" She looked up feeling a little anxious about how Jo was going to respond. Much to Katniss's relief Jo grinned wickedly, pulling out a dress from underneath the red leather one. "Yeah, yeah I get you K," she rolled her eyes. "So I came prepared." "Whadda'ya think?" She held up a sleek looking fine knitted black ribbed sweater dress. "100% Italian wool, ya know."
"Oh my god Jo, that's beautiful. Why haven't I seen you wear this before?"
"It's a little strait laced for my taste." She winked. "My mom got it for my Christmas last year. Forgot I had it. She gets all these swish looking dresses at that boutique of hers. I guess she was trying to smarten me up."
"You don't need it, perfect as you are Mason." Katniss bumped her fist affectionately on Johanna's shoulder.
"Well duh obviously, Brainless!" She laughed tapping Katniss's hand. "Anyway it's yours if you want it?"
"I can't have this Jo, it must have cost a..."
"Two hundred and fifty eight plus tax... Yep she left the tags on, just have it Everdeen. Don't say I don't treat you!" Jo flung the dress at Katniss. "Go try it on... You're gonna look hot, Mellark will flip his little blondie lid!"
"Thanks Jo, this is perfect" Katniss examined the dress. It felt so soft between her fingers. She inwardly blushed thinking about Peeta checking her out in it. "Anytime. Now about your makeup. I'm thinking a dark red lip and killer contouring of those cheekbones." Katniss mock sighed loudly before heading to the bathroom.
"We'll see…"
"No way, if I'm giving you that dress you're getting the makeup I order." Jo called after her.
"Sure Jo, sure." Katniss laughed closing the door.
The rest of the week had gone by in a blur of shy smiles and lingering glances across classrooms and stairwells. She hadn't got the chance to speak much to Peeta due to it being his turn to supervise lunchtime detention this week. By the time Friday afternoon came Katniss was beginning to feel definite pre-date jitters creeping up on her.
"What's the worst that could happen? Blondie won't put out on the first date." Johanna grinned mischievously as she gathered up a huge pile of homework sacks to give out.
"Har-har Jo, thanks. I feel much more at ease now," Katniss deadpanned. "Always happy to help K, - AARON CRAY WHAT DID MISS EVERDEEN JUST SAY?!" She thundered across the room to deal with more Cray shenanigans.
"Hey,” that beautiful voice that she came to crave and be fearful of at the same time echoed in her ear.
"Gah," she spun round to see Peeta leaning against the door frame wearing a sinfully fitting blue shirt that just made the blue of his eyes pop out even more. "Sorry you startled me there Mr Mellark," she self-consciously pushed her hair behind her ear and felt her face begin that familiar burn again.
"Apologies Miss Everdeen."
That sexy grin should be god damned outlawed she inwardly groaned.
"Was just wondering if I could borrow your copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Promised the kids I'd read a chapter to them today."
"Sure thing," she walked over to her bookshelf behind her desk, smiling to herself. He could have sent his TA to get the book but he went instead. Yep must have definitely wanted to see her.
"Here you go, enjoy."
"Thanks and by the way," Peeta lowered his voice and looked furtively around the classroom for any eavesdroppers "We still on for tonight?"
"Yeah, yes definitely. Seven?"
"I'll see you then," he replied with a wink and turned around to leave. "Hey Mellark! I expect a good report," Johanna called across the room loudly.
Peeta looked a little stunned for a minute, rubbed the back of his beck and smiled back coolly.
"It'll be A star Miss Mason, I promise!"
The three kids standing beside Jo stared over at Katniss and Peeta looking completely perplexed.
"Hey you three, heads down and concentrate," Jo snapped then smirked at Katniss.
"See you later Katniss," Peeta smiled apologetically at her before walking out. "Jesus," she muttered as if her nerves weren't already frazzled. Would she even make it to 7 tonight?!
*****
Hair done, makeup on, dress on, ah shit perfume still to spritzed, teeth - not brushed!? Oh god yes good breath is imperative. Katniss continued to mentally compile the rest of her to do list while putting the lasagne in the oven. It was quarter to seven and she was running behind, and as Madge predicted the cooking wasn't quite up to Cordon Bleu standards. She had burned the onions in the Bolognese and had to run out to the corner shop to hastily get some more and now the fucking whipping cream for the individual trifles wasn't whipping.
'Soft peaks,' the recipe had said. No peaks, just a runny mess.
Where's Martha Stewart when you need her? She muttered to herself. Hang on, hang on she grinned at her own inventiveness. She pulled out a can of whipped cream from the fridge and started spraying it into the set custard. Sorted. She raced through to the bathroom toothbrush in one hand, her Black Nirvana perfume in the other. You got this in hand Everdeen, all is well she reassured herself in the mirror. She had managed to talk Jo out of applying her makeup by letting her curl her hair instead. The last thing Peeta would want to see surely was her face trowelled on with makeup like Glimmer or (dare she say it) Cashmere?!
Her buzzer rang in a volume that seemed louder than usual or was it her nerves jangling?! She ran over and hit the button.
"Come on up," she called trying to sound casual but epically failing.
1-2-3-4-5, she counted inwardly while standing by the door waiting to let him in. 6-7-8-9-10, oh god oh god it's Peeta, Peeta Mellark soon to be in my apartment, 11-12-13-14-15, on a fucking date.
16-17-18-19, Jesus Mellark how long does it take to walk up to my door?!
20 - a loud purposeful knock came from the other side of the door.
She opened the door a little cautiously. There he was all 5'11 of him, his hair styled lightly with gel so it was pushed away from his forehead. This just intensified his beautiful eyes even more. He wore a black fitted shirt, black jeans with a beige casual jacket over the top. She wasn't sure if Peeta hadn't actually moonlighted as an Abercrombie model in the past because he was certainly working it. She realised she'd just been staring at him when he politely coughed and smiled shyly.
"Oh, hi Peeta come in," she gestured with her hands a little awkwardly.
"Thanks," he grinned walking through. He seemed as on edge as her putting A hand in his pocket.
"Uh these are for you." He handed a paper wrapped small bouquet of golden orange sunflowers.
"They're beautiful, thank you. Take a seat I'll go put them in water. Dinner should be in ten minutes. Would you like some wine?“ she replied a little shrilly. Get to the kitchen Katniss, just get there and calm the fuck down. She scolded herself.
"Uh yeah wine would be good. Thanks. Can I give you a hand with anything?" He called as she sped off to the kitchen,
"No, no just relax," She hurriedly placed the sunflowers in the vase by the window. Grabbed the bottle of wine and two glasses. Before leaving she took two deep breaths and then went back through. She sat down next to Peeta on the sofa.
"You look beautiful by the way," he said softly his eyes never leaving hers. She grabbed the wine glass a little too hastily spilling a little on Peeta’s lap.
"Oh jeez I'm so sorry!" She grabbed a tissue from the table.
"Hey, hey it's ok, Katniss it's fine. Was just a little spill." He clasped her hand and gently rubbed her knuckles reassuringly.
"Besides it's not the first time you've spilled alcohol on me," he smirked taking a sip. She couldn't bring herself to take her hand away it felt so good.
"Oh god," she groaned, "that was so embarrassing," remembering her face slamming into his green Lycra clad private parts all those years ago. Peeta laughed.
"Without sounding like a total perv I didn't mind it at all." His flirtatious cheeky manner was in full swing and it was the sexiest feeling in the world to be on the receiving end of it.
"I'm glad someone enjoyed my shame," she laughed. His hand was still rubbing hers and god did it feel fucking good. He let go gently and took his jacket off. She missed the skin on skin contact immediately.
"So how was your day?" She asked. He was so good at putting her at ease in every situation.
"Not bad. Effie asked if-" Suddenly Peeta’s voice was drowned by the piercing wail of her fire alarm.
"Wha – oh, shit! The lasagne!”
Leaping out of her seat she ran to the kitchen. Smoke billowed out of the oven. Peeta appeared behind her his hand on her shoulder.
"Do you have a dish towel?" He called over the din. She grabbed one from the counter and handed to him. He immediately started wafting the smoke away from the alarm. Springing into action she switched the oven off, pulled open the oven door with the mitt and threw the lasagne in the sink with an almighty clatter. Tears welled up as she stared down at the burned lasagne clogging up her sink. She heard Peeta continue to waft his tea towel and the horrendous mocking sound of the alarm.
Suddenly silence. The smoke had dissipated somewhat but still clung around the kitchen.
"Well...." Peeta still had his hand mid-air clutching the dish towel. "That's a welcome I'll never forget!"
He looked at her and his mouth twitched in amusement. Whatever frustration and anger she had just been feeling drained and she burst into laughter with Peeta following suit. They howled with laughter and after a minute Peeta pulled her into an embrace, kissing the top of her head, before peeling with laughter once again.
"I think...." she breathed clutching her stomach with hilarity, "That this is god’s way of telling me not to cook anymore."
"You think?!" He joked rubbing her back.
The dinner was ruined, her pride a little dented but the incident had diffused the tension she was feeling and for that she was thankful. She could be herself not first date jitters-Katniss.
"You wanna order takeout? She said wiping tears of laughter from her cheeks. "I've got an idea that's way better than takeout. I'll cook for you." He leaned down and kissed her on the lips. There in the middle of a smoky, messy kitchen with her eyes streaming Peeta was caressing her face with both hands and kissing her. The kiss deepened and Katniss moaned, stepping back against the counter to steady herself. He lightly traced her bottom lip with his tongue before gently letting it caress her own. A few minutes passed before he gently pulled back still stroking her face and neck. His blue eyes a tad darker than their usual cerulean hue.
"If you cook the way the way you kiss then I'll be in for a taste sensation," she grinned rubbing her hands up his arms.
"Oh just you wait Everdeen," he pecked her on the lips again before making his way over to her fridge. "Hmm... ok yeah I can work with this," he murmured to himself.
"Go sit and relax, I should be ready in say about 20 minutes." He grabbed a carton of eggs, milk, butter and a packet of bacon.
"What no Peeta. I'm staying here to help you. Least I can do since I burnt your dinner."
"Nuh-uh. If you want your dinner you'll go sit. Go on... too many cooks and all that." He grinned, pulled her in for another embrace from behind and started playfully tickling her.
"Ok, ok, ok I give in," she laughed pulling him in for another kiss.
"Mmm, I could just stand here and do this all evening," he looked lustfully at her. "But I promised you dinner and cheese buns, so scoot. "
She laughed and left him to it. Sinking back onto the sofa she took a large gulp of wine and sighed. What a night. She was nervous as hell wondering how she was going to handle him being there and now there he was cooking her dinner and kissing her in an obscenely sexy way that made her want to clench her thighs together and head to her bedroom to recover. Peeta was special, there was no doubt about it and she felt so lucky that they had reconnected.
Ten minutes later, she heard some dishes clanging together. She kinda felt guilty about leaving him to it but he seemed determined. She switched on some music. The relaxing tones of Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy were welcome and soothing. Grabbing the wine bottle she poured herself another glass. She put her fingers up to her lips and thought about that kiss. God....
A loud knock at the front door reverberated through the room. What? Oh come on, who would be knocking at this time on a Friday? Maybe it was the Super coming to inspect the fire alarm. Oh joy. She opened to door quickly.
1-2-3-4-5
"Hey, Katniss."
6-7-8-9-10
"Gale," she uttered.
Duh duh duuuuuuuh! He's back...evil cackle.. Be rest assured i'm no fan of Galeniss in any form lol but Katniss needs to confront and deal with her past once and for all.
For those who don't know, i am a primary teacher like Katniss and I also dislike my time teaching in nursery. Her experiences were definitely drawn from my own. (Although sadly I didnt have Peeta waiting for me with cheese buns....such is life)

2018 Fall Decorating Ideas
@simplysoutherncottage:
“Although the inside of my home is neutral, the outside is FULL of color starting with my cheery front door! Again, my front door is a unique identifier of my home that immediately is associated with Simply Southern Cottage. I wanted a door color that outwardly displayed the overflowing joy I have in heart and Lemon Twist by Sherwin Williams was the perfect color! (Door was crafted by a local artisan, Webster Door Company and gas lanterns by Copperworks Lighting, also local.)
I have NO floral design experience other than things I’ve made for my home, so honestly I don’t know how these swags and wreath were formed from my hands! I sourced all the florals from Michaels and one Friday evening, I sat down to see what I could make. And this is the result! I LOVE the way these turned out and did surprise myself! The buckets and grasses were also sourced at Michaels and were in the 80% off summer clearance section!” – Sara

“Mantel Original to the home. When I style areas of my home for Instagram or for other pictures, it’s very important to me to create spaces that immediately identify my cottage to the reader. Like when someone sees the picture, they immediately know it’s the Simply Southern Cottage or Sara’s home. Again, I chose to go the neutral route and incorporated much of my existing décor. The mantel surround is original to my cottage and is 92 years old! I did add the gas logs during restoration.

Mantel
Last year for Christmas, I utilized dried hydrangeas everywhere in the cottage. I saved them to reuse and ended up making this unique fall garland! I took nine feet of rope and wired dried hydrangeas and pine cones, interwined with rag ties from white fabrics purchased at Goodwill and yard sales. All other accessories were sourced from thrift stores and yard sales. Pillow are Michaels after Christmas clearance last year.”

Tablescape
“In keeping with the neutral theme in my home, I wanted my fall décor to reflect the same peaceful calming atmosphere. Thus I chose to incorporate white pumpkins, muted green eucalyptus and lots of white and off-white into my tablescape. It’s also very important to me to stick with a budget when I style. I found some AMAZING Maple Leaf by Salem plates at Goodwill that are perfect for fall. They integrate flawlessly with my color palette. In addition, I created “faux” napkins by cutting off the fabric from a bedskirt (also found at Goodwill) and folding like a napkin. I purchased small pumpkins from the Dollar Tree and painted them with Rustoleum chalk paint. Honestly, I couldn’t be more pleased with the way this turned out! It’s simple and serene with lots of rich texture and depth.” – Sara.

“Autumn in Ontario, Canada is amazing! From the brilliant colours of the leaves, the abundance of seasonal produce, to the crisp mornings and sweater weather, I am so blessed to be able to enjoy all of it.
I found these tin pails at Dollarama that hold a large pot of mums nicely.” – Pamela.

Hydrangeas
I welcome fall into our home by clipping large bunches of Limelight hydrangeas from the garden and filling up various vases. You’ll find a vase filled with hydrangeas in almost every room of our home. I create vignettes by adding some neutral colour pumpkins like these from Pier1 Canada, creating quick and easy fall decor.

Fall Dining Tablescape
Creating tablescape decor is becoming a favourite of mine. I find it fun and even a little therapeutic, changing the decor with each season.
This fall, I brought the outdoors in by layering dried hydrangeas on top of various soft shades of green stems. The pumpkin filled lantern centrepiece is surrounded by various sizes and shapes of loose pumpkins and enough greens to fill in any gaps. This dining room table decor will remain until Thanksgiving, when it will become more formal replacing the lantern and pumpkins for candles and fresh flowers.

Sunroom Decor
I gave our sunroom mantle a quick fall look by adding orange dollar store pumpkins that I chalk painted in white and grey for a more neutral look. I switched the summer florals and lanterns to basic black lanterns to give the room a simple, cozy, rustic feel.
Wicker Chair: Wayfair Canada

Dining by the Lake
“My family enjoys dining outdoors on the patio by the lake. The cooler fall breezes, and stunning fall colours really add to the ambiance. I like to create a natural look for the table decor by using hydrangeas and other greenery from my garden.”

I like to take a minimal approach when decorating. Almost all of our house is white, and feel like that is one way to bring out the “modern” in modern farmhouse. For our dinning room table, I used simple white plates and bowls with a touch or organic accents.

“I typically like to decorate with the traditional colors of fall; Oranges, browns, greens. Faux pumpkins, and wheat straw are two my favorite ways to brighten up a room with seasonal colors. Throw a plaid blanket over a chair, or drape it over a basket and it’s instant visual comfort.

2018 Fall Decorating Ideas
@simplysoutherncottage:

@simplysoutherncottage.

Dining Room
I like to take a minimal approach when decorating. Almost all of our house is white, and feel like that is one way to bring out the “modern” in modern farmhouse. For our dinning room table, I used simple white plates and bowls with a touch or organic accents.

I used simple clay pots, which provide all the Fall color I was looking for. To keep it clean and simple, I went with classic white mums. The front door is a very warm tone. For this reason, I chose simple Autumn green leaf wreath.

Traditional Fall Colors
I thought it would be fun to decorate with some traditional fall colors this year since we are all so used to seeing the muted neutral colors- which is also beautiful! Most of my decor is used year round and reused for years to come- especially these staple chargers plates!

All of the pumpkins above are from the Target Dollar Spot or the Dollar Tree- ranging from $1-$3 a piece!

Fall decorating is so easy. I use a plain white comforter and add color by folding blankets at the foot of the bed and seasonal pillows. I love a bedroom filled with natural light.
