(I know you have a ton of OCs, feel free to just do the ones you can come up with a good answer for - I struggled to pick people for this and I have like half the OCs you do lol)

Alright so some of these people aren't actors or anything but they're definitely who I imagine the characters looking like-

Siv: Romy Flores, 100%. She's got the face, the nose, the "don't give a fuck" attitude. All she'd really need is gray contact lenses and either a haircut or a short wig.

Hailey: Lynk Lee isn't 100% perfect for Hailey, since Hailey has a more stocky, muscular build, but in the hypothetical movie, if she were to do some weight training, she could definitely do Hailey justice. Also, she'd need green/blue contacts for Hailey's post-death heterochromatic eyes.

Jay: Elliot Fletcher is the closest I can get to how I imagine Jay looking, though I would hypothetically want to cast someone who was both transmasc and physically disabled, since Jay is both.

Cassandra: Halle is absolutely perfect for Cassandra- though if she were to play the role, she'd need violet contacts for Cassandra's magic-corrupted eyes.

Arya: Cayley Spivey, 100%! This, but with elf ears and a shaggy mullet! (fun fact: Spivey was the fancast for Siv's original design)

Esme: Ava Max is my current fancast for her. She's got the bleach blonde hair, the "party girl" vibe and the angular yet cutesy face.

Gina: Ilianna Ayala Garcia would make a pretty good Gina, imo, though she's a little older than the actual Gina was when she died, what movie doesn't have a 20-something playing a teen?

Ember: Marina Summers, a queen who starred in S1 of Drag Race Philippines, is absolutely perfect for Ember!

Cat: Even though she doesn't necessarily look entirely like Cat, I've never been able to imagine anyone but Anna Cathcart as her. I think its just the vibes lol.

Kyle: This random-ass hockey player from Minnesota, Ryan Johnson, has been my faceclaim for Kyle since I first created the character.

Max: Heng Sokvisal makes a pretty good Max, just slap on a pair of glasses and we're good to go!

Khalil: Shameik Moore makes the perfect Khalil imo. No comments, just vibes. (though since Khalil works as a makeup artist I'd definitely give him some gold eyeliner or something)

Reggie: Winnie Harlow's pretty much perfect for Reggie, though she'd need blue contacts because Reggie has xer dad's eyes.

Ameerah: Amandla Stenberg makes an absolutely amazing Ameerah, I'd definitely want her to have the light blonde hair like in the picture, and she'd need pink contacts to match Ameerah's description.

Rania: Denise Bidot, 10000000%. She's been my faceclaim for her for like, FOREVER.

Director Hawke: Julianne Moore, specifically in her "President Coin" look. Director Hawke was loosely based on President Coin, so I've always imagined her looking somewhat like her.

Meredith: Rachel Zegler, but with glasses and lighter brown hair.

Onnie: Same as Siv lol it's her multiversal variant

Jessi: Same as Esme, multiversal variant

Pippa: Veondre Mitchell is the perfect Pippa! She was actually the one who I initially based Pippa's appearance off of.

Hyun-Ki: Park Sung-Hoon is a pretty good Hyun-Ki. From his dramatic looks to his honestly kinda gorgeous voice. I don't doubt he'd make a great Hyun-Ki

Thalia: Teyonah Parris is Thalia, there's no doubt about it. Ever since I watched Wandavision and saw her as Monica Rambeau, I knew that she'd be perfect to play Thalia in her hypothetical movie.

Reyna: K-Pop soloist AleXa is a pretty good fancast for her, though she'd need some pretty good SFX makeup or CGI due to Reyna being a near-human felid species.

Athena: Alaqua Cox (AKA Echo from Hawkeye) is how I imagine Athena looks, but with a white streak in the front of her hair (and a lot more seductive of an aesthetic)

Laila: Youtuber Beth Crowley is my faceclaim for Laila, though as Laila I'd want her to either don a short bob or a short wig, and amber contacts.

Marie: Mayu Maeshima is a great faceclaim for Marie, though she'd need SFX makeup for Marie's Romulan features and her Borg implants.

Qiara: Due to Qiara's nature as a being of pure energy, she doesn't necessarily take the same form at all times. However, the one she frequents the most could very well be portrayed by Chiquis Rivera.

Liah: Raquel Rodriguez would make a great Liah, she has the right height and build for her, she would just need SFX makeup for Liah's Cardassian features, and hazel contacts.

Samira: Desiree Akhavan would make a pretty good Samira. She definitely fits how I imagine Samira to look, and she's got the right vibe to play her as well.

Sohelia: Golshifteh Farahani is a pretty good faceclaim for Sohelia, though she'd need some light makeup to make her skin more ashy, due to Sohelia being half-vampire.

Vanessa: Storm Reid is absolutely perfect for Vanessa, though for most of the movie she'd be replaced with either a puppet or CGI double for her monster form.

Dolores: Diane Guerrero is perfect for Dolores. She'd just need some minor makeup in order to look more like a vampire, i.e. ashy skin, red eyes, fangs, etc.

Hi. So, this is my first post on this blog and it just so happens to be my birthday. I’m 28 now. What’s really cool is that today’s the exact day I was born. I was born on a Wednesday, and today is also a Wednesday. Isn't that cool? I had to wait seven years for my birthday to land on the same day again. 

I can’t believe I’m officially a grown ass adult man but honestly, I still feel like I’m 19. Not much has changed since then... or maybe a lot has. I got really depressed. The start of 2024 was the lowest point of my life, like the darkest pit I’ve ever been in. I hated it, I hated my life. But honestly, I don’t think I could ever truly hate myself. I think I’m a pretty cool, fun guy. It’s just that life is shit and it keeps making me feel like shit and just driving me insane.

Turning 28 scares me. I don’t feel ready to be a "real" adult with responsibilities and all that. Maybe if my life was different or wasn't so depressing, I’d be so excited about it. But right now 28 just feels like an expiration date.. Like, most people by 28 have their shit together—careers, families, businesses, traveling the world, partners, whatever. And here I am, still trying to figure it out. I’m not there yet. Not even close.

I’ve spent most of my life battling depression and suicidal. Just wasting time, pretending to be someone I’m not, even around my own family. Failed friendships, no romantic love despite having a few real life crushes. I haven’t even been able to do the things I really want to do in life. Constant family drama, financial stress, rejections, and just a lot of depressing stuff… blergh. And honestly, I still don’t know who I really am or what I want to do with my life. I don’t have a vision or a future, really. Most of times, I feel like an alien, just here to observe life from the outside. I mean, yeah, I’ve learned a lot about life, human civilization and technology, history and cultures, creativity, music, sex, food, religions, spirituality, my existence, yeah all that stuff. But have I really lived? Not really. I want to live life, not just watch it go by and then realize I haven’t done anything.

But today, I’m not feeling depressed or sad at all. I’m actually happy. I started this blog as my own therapy, and I’m writing my first post on my birthday, on the exact day I was born. That’s gotta mean something, right? I feel like I’m finally starting to discover a bit of who I am like, a piece of "my identity". Like, fun fact, I’m more of a stereotypical Gemini than my actual sign, Virgo. There’s so much I haven’t figured out about myself, but I think other people around me have seen it. I wish I could be more honest with myself and the people around me.

I’m tired of this dangerous, toxic people pleasing mentality and tendency of me. I want to be unapologetically real and honest. It’s hard, but I need to do it. Just straight up say "No, I want this. Respect my choice, and if you don’t like it, fuck you." I need to stop giving a fuck about what people think, yes, even my mom and sis. But I still feel like I'm a really selfish bad guy. I don't want to be a villain to those around me. But what if I am? Will a lightning from heaven struck me and killed me on the spot? I don't know. Here we go again with my overthinking.

Oh and there’s this guy I had a crush on. Met him on Discord. He’s from the Philippines, and we’ve been talking for like five months—almost every day. But lately, I’ve been too busy, and my brain’s been in full meltdown mode, hahaha. I liked him, almost romantically, but not anymore. I thought he was my soulmate, but now, I don’t know man. Even though we’re on the same wavelength and vibe well and stuff, I still feel disconnected from him, honestly, from everyone in my life. I just don’t feel compatible with anybody.

And there’s no way I’d end up with him. The old me thought he was “the one,” but naahh. He lives far away from me and he's a bi and there are just too many things that make me go, “Hmm not for me.” and other circumstances (me). But anyway, that’s just a highlight reel of my life in the past few years, I think. So yeah. Am I excited about what’s next? Not really. I still wanting to leave this reality behind and escape to the one I’ve created in my head, where I can finally meet him... my true love. I love and miss him so much. And to live a life that meant for me. I’ll get there someday… my true home. I just know I will.

Anyway, here’s to being 28. Happy birthday to me.

Unfortunately Asia only includes South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines. The whole of South Asia is just a hallucination and we don't exist :D (but I do plan on going back to the US sometime in the future so I will go to a concert- hopefully)

so here's zak's tot eng dub va dream cast!! complete with explanations, because when have i ever not rambled

vyn is somebody i, unfortunately, imagine to sound british. or some kind of european accent. in addition to that, im looking for a voice that has an air of elegance and hoity toity-ness. and the only va that came to my mind was Yuri Lowenthal ala how he voiced eng Clive in Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. but like SOUNDING OLDER. bc clive is like some kind of teenager and thus has some high pitched/voice crack moments. vyn would be this but deeper, smoother, and generally just lower in pitch

artem is somebody i also envision a low voice for, but in terms of vibes, it's less of a floral garden path like vyn and more of a dark, polished wood. LIKE, IT'S SOPHISTICATED BUT IN A MORE GROUNDED WAY. like instead of this voice making me go "huh what an elegant dude" it makes me go "huh what a steady, reliable dude. somebody to trust and also somebody i want to hear give me compliments on my writing." and my va for this is Logan Cunningham ala how he voiced Achilles in Hades. but this voice is again, british (or something, idk anything about europe) and i dont think artem would sound british. he would sound like this without the british, a dude i would want audio asmr of giving me sweet and sincere comments about my skills, calm and assured, just the most earnest and honeyed praise

This is my third and final night in Madrid. Very cool city. I spent most of my time here doing some rather typical sightseeing - I’ve seen a lot of palaces and churches. The museums were my favorite though. I’m no art connoisseur but Francisco de Goya is now one of my favorite painters. I took a couple pictures of his work before a museum employee told me that photography is not allowed.

I’ve met a decent number of people here but nobody I was particularly keen to spend more time with. I went to a bar crawl the first night which was fine, but was more confirmation that I don’t enjoy being around drunk people in loud places. I had an ignorant American moment when I was talking to a girl from Indonesia and asked her what it’s like living in the Philippines - fortunately she thought it was funny. I also met a guy from Atlanta in el parque del Retiro named Josh. He was fun to hang out with; we spent most of our time together trying to take selfies with peacocks (good semicolon?).

I met a dude from NYC named Kiernan that gives me weird vibes. He asked for my Instagram and I didn’t give it to him. He’s friendly enough but he’s given a few indications that he’s not someone I would be interested in being around. He had a problem with a girl about the AC and he mentioned that he keeps having problems with people in hostels. I’ve met others but honestly I haven’t had many memorable interactions with other travelers in Madrid. I’m still being open and making an effort to talk to people but I just didn’t really hit it off with anybody here. I find it difficult to pay attention to conversations unless I feel like there’s a way I can learn something. People know me for having “deep” conversations. I like to dig into what makes a person unique and interesting. By learning about others, which is worthwhile in its own right, I learn more about myself. Self-understanding is the ultimate goal. But if I can’t have these kinds of conversations with a person for whatever reason, it’s easy for me to get bored.

I continue to spend a lot of time thinking about the changes I want to make in my life when I get back, and even now. At the forefront of my mind is discipline and my relative lack of it. In this regard my most obvious shortcoming is in how I spend my time. I waste an incredible amount of time. Not because I’m relaxing or having fun, I waste time doing nothing beneficial or even enjoyable. Maybe it’s spending hours watching random videos on YouTube. Sometimes I’ll spend hours pacing back and forth, thinking the same thoughts over and over. Practicing conversations that will never happen or that have already happened, imagining scenarios that have no bearing on my real life. These activities aren’t entirely without value in moderation, but I allow them to eat a tremendous amount of time that could be spent in ways that can add real value to my life.

The solution seems to be as simple as it is difficult. Less thinking, more doing. But what should I do? It’s like I’m being pulled in so many directions that I don’t actually move at all. I have many interests and goals within each one. I understand that I need to choose a direction, but that will involve letting the others die. What if I choose wrong? I know that the future will always be uncertain, but is there an amount of thinking that can be done in the present to avoid regret in the future? I come back to the conversation I had with Jonathan. Yes, there is value in planning, but what’s really in my control? Maybe I decide to go all-in on data science and a year from now I realize that the occupation isn’t in alignment with how I want to live. That’s not in my control, and that future outcome doesn’t change whether or not it was a good decision at the time it was made. Maybe I make plans to live in a certain place for a certain time, then I meet a girl and decide to change them. That’s not in my control either.

Letting go of this perceived control is difficult though, especially for someone like myself. I want my life to be a certain way and accepting that it might not be is easier said than done. I return to the concept of discipline, this time not of actions but of thoughts. These, unlike outside events, I do control.

thankfully, the villagers who lived not faraway from the mountain trail found you

the songs i've mentioned so far in the tag ramble aren't um consecutive so yeah there are a lot of blank spaces in between fjsjsj and yea I haven't figured out the other leads and their arcs yet (probably 5-6 leads). for now um the planned songs feature 3 of the leads:

Kate - basically answers the question of What If Eva Sanchez Was The Protagonist and What If Eva Sanchez Saw The Hell That Is Don't Even (in this show, this song is called "Anakpota?" or "The Fuck?"); she's a transferee and is having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the new school environment; her reasons for transferring run a bit deeper than just "humanities is a lot more interesting than stem or business shits"; i guess her main character themes are burnout, the want for childlike wonder again and overcoming the fear that comes with chasing what you really want and no i am definitely not self projecting what are you guys talking about smh rhhdhs /hj (altho i admit that this is loosely based on my own experience with deciding to transfer schools) and yea she's a very closeted lesbian that slowly starts to comes out to others and to herself more throughout the course of the show. and also she gets a girlfriend YAY

Noel - rn i don't have that much planned out for him cause u know barebones plot but so far um i guess he's the chill dude, overall good guy, rantaro amami from danganronpa v3 vibes, and he's initially framed as the "love interest" for Kate esp in the song "Ikaw Ba Ay..." or "Are You..." (i wanted that to be a play on the typical Filipino Teen Hetero Romance CAUSE THAT SHIT IS IN EVERYWHERE JFJSJD I AM GONNA MAKE A WHOLEASS RANT ON THAT SOON AND NOBODY CAN STOP ME) but surprise motherfucker BOTH OF THEM ARE GAY AND BOTH BOND OVER IT AND BECOME BEST FRIENDS YAY WOOOO i kinda want him to be like the typical "Filipino Teen Heartthrob" star student with the twist being that he's gay and not make that a throwaway joke cause um yea that's a throwaway joke here that someone who is real catch for the heteros but is actually gay is "sayang" or "worthless" here.

Ella - ngl she is probably gonna end up as the main lead here fjdjd i'd say she has riley+chess vibes aka The School's Hotshot Achiever and Student Leader That Is Very Intimidating But Is Actually Really Freaking Kind and i guess with a dash of Kate Dalton-ish snark. Like i said the plot is barebones rn so i dunno anything but i do imagine them being the one that drives the plot forward due to her outspokenness. I also imagine her to be the one (along with Noel) that makes Kate a lil bit more comfortable with her sexuality and yup you guessed it Ella is gay too (bi to be specific oh and she uses she/they pronouns) and altho still a bit closeted, they're a bit more comfy with it. also they become Kate's gf yay!

those are the leads that i have kinda planned out so far but yea i still gotta expound kna lot of atuff and make up more leads for this but then again i just started conceptualizing this last night so ANYWAYS HERE ARE THE OTHERS SONGS THAT I LITERALLY JUST THOUGHT UP LAST NIGHT (aside from the ones already mentioned)

+ "Nakakapanibago" or "Well This Is New" - Ella and Kate work together on a school project aaand gay panic ensues. both of them take turns in addressing the audience and panicking over each other in um er an "Oh My God She's Very Fucking Cute What The Fuck" way. it kinda has What Is This Feeling from Wicked vibes if you remove the aggression and antagonization jdjsd and i kinda emphasize on how overwhelmed they are cause for Kate, everything - from the school to the subjects to the people - is new and her attraction to Ella is like a cherry bomb on top of a chaos cake while for Ella, who has studied in the school since kindergarten which is why nothing about the school fazes her anymore, Kate is a literal breath of fresh air and the spontaneity scares them and excites them at the same time. The number is comedic (and is chance for me to add a shit ton of wordplay cause yAY WORDPLAY) but i guess also hints at their fears which will definitely come into play later.

+ "Mabuting Laban" or "Good Fight" - a group number led by Ella, this is the first song in the musical that isn't mostly comedic. like um the musical so far (before this song) is mostly somewhat of a parody-just-for-laughs-don't-take-this-seriously piece but with this, the show finally hints to something a lot more serious and insightful. so basically ella tells kate (this scene comes right after the Nakakapanibago sequence) that they have noticed that the latter is um very very shocked at the blatant show of LGBTQ+ stuff. Kate mentions that altho many students have since then spoke up for LGBTQ+ acceptance, things were a lot more conservative back in her former school (once again wooo definitely not self projection /hj) so like seeing all this is very new to her. Ella then mentions that things weren't always like that - a lot of fighting had to be done in order to get to that point. and because most of the students already were branded with a rebellious reputation (for a lot of delinquent behavior), they really didn't give a fuck anymore if they were being controversial or not. What mattered was that they would make the school environment a lot more welcoming for themselves and for others. That sentiment is also shared by other leads singing along as they go out of their way to ensure a much better environment for everyone (in terms of lgbtq+ rights, undoing the stigmatization of mental health matters, student activism yadda yadda)

(oh and also this kinda serves as something that bridges the prejudices between the two schools since Ella's school is famous for a lot of student delinquency while Kate's former school is famous for being known as the "Best School In The Region With The Best Students" (which is why Ella understands why the students in Kate's school are a bit more hesitant to speak up because Kate's former schoolmates got way too much to lose) and the rivalry those schools have with each other cause students from ella's school think those from kate's school are pompous little shits while those from kate's school think that ella's schoolmates are delinquents and yes this is commentary on the dynamic my former school'scstudents and my current school's students share) (i should probably give this its own song)

+ "Ayoko" or " I Don't Want It" - (this does not come right after Mabuting Laban fjsjd i honestly dunno where to put this) this comes right after a conversation regarding her reputation in her former school and yea this is Kate poking fun at the "I Want" song musical trope. Like um she addresses the audience saying something along the lines of "oooohh wow complicated backstory exposition! you are probably expecting a song rn ala "How Far I'll Go" from Moana but guess what bitches fuck you all cause i'm gonna sing a song about the things I don't want just to fucking annoy you." it starts off as incredibly satirical and um Kate Dalton-vibes all throughout the scene with lots of pettiness which will then gradually transition to her singing about how she threw all the opportunities presented to her by the former school just because she really didn't want to do them and was tired of saying "yes" just to be enough for them. She then starts singing about her taking control of her own narrative by finally leaving the school. She still laments about those lost opportunities and admits that she still kinda wants to pursue those, but if she has to sacrifice rest for greatness, then she doesn't want it. The song ends with a verse akin to most I Want songs as she finally admits what she really wants the most: rest and wonder.

So yea this is in Act 2 the song starts with mentioning the exhaustion that comes with being an LGBTQ+ teen in the philippines cause yup same old conservative religious bullshit same old same old shit and despite many a lot of people advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, nothing ever changes around here because well conservative religious bullshit. so yea this is kind of an extension of "Good Fight" but make it more about the burnout felt by a lot of teens that want something better than whatever we have right now. Then it will also apply to the other causes that the leads fight for (activism,destigmatization of mental health stuffs, etc). I'd say it's a combination of Before the Breakdown + Move On musically speaking (yea PMA has influenced me by a LOT). eventually this becomes one of the star numbers fo the show cause yea all the leads will do a shit ton of singing and harmonizing (but for here i'd say Noel and Kate have a tiny bit more of the spotlight since for now they are the ones with the very LGBTQ+ based plotlines). I really REEAAALLY want this song to work aaaa i've been playing around with the melody a lot recently and if i can't write the whole musical, then i'll be content with at the very least writing this song

+ "Try Lang Natin" or "Let's Try It Out" - this is a very barebones sequence atm but basically it's a scene where both Kate and Ella come to terms with their fears related to uncertainty and go "fuck it we don't know jackshit about the future anyway so why not ondulge a bit and ejoy what we have today" and decide to start going out with each other YAYYYYY and also this is like one of the few scenes here were Ella is much more visibly nervous compared to everyone else in the scene so yay for helping each other come to terms with their own vulnerabilities WOOOOO (also paige i remember you saying once that kate and eva could've had a Forever reprise duet right? And correct me if i'm wrong but i think u said it could be about eva assuring kate that she won't go anywhere? 🗣The other games that I’ve played and stayed for a while was Romance Club (please, please, please support and check this app out! It’s really worth it and won’t disappoint you!) and Chapters (this was the game that I’ve also been obsessed about too! Aside from Choices, when I took a little time off of Choices and went inactive with this account, this was my only safe haven then, with all of those schoolworks pouring in, it was really hard to take a breather.)

🗣What does Choices mean to me? It means the world to me, the absolute world. Hell, because of it, I got to meet so many nice and appreciative people here on this platform itself.(Thanks, Tumblr. I’ll make sure to give you a five star rating if I don’t forget it again😭) I got included in a community that I felt really comfortable to be in, and most importantly, it made me happy. I consider it as my safe haven, from being depressed and anxious. I’ve never really acknowledged myself as one, but it’s noticeable, even to myself. I just don’t show it. Our education system here sucks, just..no words.

🗣I’m a pretty chill not chill student. (not me lying to myself to make me feel better.) But really, I don’t put that much effort when it comes to education, and I didn’t even review when it comes to quizzes and exams back from 1st-6th grade. What changed? Well, the fact that became older and became more self-conscious about it (my grades). But, I still don’t give it my all partly because of my belief that we should enjoy our youth. Studying too hard may hinder that. And so, I did just that. I’m not particularly a naturally intelligent student. I’m just observant and can be pretty hardworking if necessary (groupings for school projects and stuff.) I’m not the type who goes and becomes a leader in one group cause I can’t handle the pressure and I don’t give enough authority vibes to be listened to (I can though, if y’all push my buttons too far.), however I act as an assistant leader, who also helps in anyway I can and handles all the research (’cause I love learning new things online, and I love to research.) And so, I kinda became a With Honors type of student. (sHocKer.) And honestly? I don’t regret putting a bit of effort in school, because I get to see how proud my parents are for me.

honestly, this question was so difficult for me to even think of and the answer will be LONG. regarding song i want everyone to know, i don’t think i have one because everyone has different genre tastes and tbf, i go through genres frequently. for example, if you were to ask me a year ago this question - i’d say ‘thor’ by push baby but if you asked me two years ago, it’d be something by AJR. right now, i probably have to say something like  “say it over” by ruel but i don’t have much reasoning behind it, so here’s others where i have proper reasoning for;

Some aph/hws Philippines headcanons part 2

Me: looks at notes of the first part huh, seems like people really liked the friendly but lonely aspect... well guess it’s time to make her less lonely lol (again huge thanks for @cupofkey for letting me ramble!)

Personal relationships:

I wasn’t too big on romantic aph Philippines ships... most of them tended to be with colonizers white men... which I think are fine in Human AUs but aren’t that great canon wise... I’ve certainly seen some very cute portrayals in fanfiction though (I have read some really cute human au AmePhil and Philippines x Japan fics) so I guess I wanted to do my own take on some Philippines ships.

(Just a side note, when I think of dates in the Philippines 90% of the time they take place in the mall. As in the really big 5-stories tall ones with where all the events are held at like SM or Ayala. The other 10% would be... pretty much at home or visiting tourist spots. People here don’t like doing things in the heat when there is a big air-conditioned building right there. Let’s just do everything we need to do there. So yeah mall culture y’all.)

I’ve read South Korea x Philippines in a fanfic, which is actually kind of cute honestly. They bond over a shared love for K-pop which is… really fun for them. I can definitely imagine them hanging out at the arcade... playing Dance Dance Revolution... singing their hearts out at karaoke. They go on lots of food dates, they can learn more about the other’s culture and eat delicious food too! They sob over watching sappy K-dramas/telenovelas. Their relationship is very fun and really just them taking the time to hang out and forget about any obligations for a while.

Taiwan and Philippines probably have a similar dynamic? They’d be the girls who fawn over cute things, whether it’s a nice dress they saw in a store or a cute baby animal photo they saw online. They go on shopping dates, which is totally not an excuse for them to flirt by complimenting each other’s outfits, no way! They go out for Boba/milk tea dates and take turns sharing each other’s drink. They give me big social media vibes, they do all of the above and take cute pictures/selfies while doing so.

I saw a post that merely mentioned the term “Seychelles x Philippines” and... my eyes have been opened ever sense. Very optimistic and friendly Island (or well, archipelago) girls who feel somewhat separated from the other countries in their continents… Their tourism industry is booming because of their tropical beaches... They take lots of beach trips together... swimming and eating each other’s seafood dishes. A very sunny and relaxing pair.

I like my happy, optimistic Philippines with other happy, optimistic countries. She deserves to be in an easy going and fun relationship.

Henry Lau

One of my biggest kpop idols (literally in the sense that I really look up to him even though I don’t stan and know all about his activities) is Henry Lau.

Even though Super Junior was popular in the Philippines during my childhood (I didn’t stan SuJu though),  I never really learned that there was such a thing as Super Junior-M, the group in which Henry belonged. I first discovered Henry when he guested in a show I always watched, 2 Days 1 Night Season 3. His entertainingly weird and fun personality and his incredible talents got me so interested.

TALENTS AND SKILLS

I keep mentioning my preferences on all my blog posts, but I’ll say it again. I’m a big fan of all-rounders, multi-talented and self-producing people. And Henry happens to be one of the G.O.A.T.s according to my book. I love that he screams “Asian Achiever” vibes because he’s excellent in many things, no doubt making his parents proud. He has talents in music and performance (singing, dancing, playing instruments) and can speak four languages! What blows my mind about all his talent is that not only does he have talent, he actually is on a very high skill level in each of these things! Don’t show Henry to your Asian parents because the standard is being set too high.

Languages

Henry is a native English-speaker (he’s Canadian), fluent in Mandarin / Cantonese (he has Taiwanese / Hong Kong parents), and obviously, as a kpop artist, he is also fluent in Korean. It’s said he can also speak Japanese and French.

Singing, Dancing, and Writing/Composing Music

How can I even start? Maybe you should listen to his most popular song, It’s You, from the OST of While You Were Sleeping (I loved this show and I didn’t even know it was Henry’s song!). He has such a beautiful voice! I’m not even kidding, I love his vibe. I really love him in Begin Again!

Of course as a member of any boy group, it’s expected that he would have dancing skills. But Henry takes it to the next level and actually gives astonishing performances.

Quick recap, are the requirements of being a top kpop idol being met by this guy? Singing, check! Dancing, check! Stage presence, check! Visuals, yes, check! I mean, look at his pretty skin and pink lips...

Not bad. He really is complete in terms of the kpop idol checklist!

And yet, he still takes it up a notch. As I have mentioned many times, I am a big fan of songwriters and self-produced idols. Henry has written/composed a bunch of things, and now he writes his own songs!

He’s also acted, but I haven’t seen the movie (A Dog’s Journey).

Instruments & Classical Music 

As if we don’t have enough reasons to love Henry, he can also play multiple instruments! Obviously, I am a big big fan of people who play instruments, because it really takes hard work and skills to be able to play them well.  He can play violin, piano, and guitar. I guess, there could be more but that’s just the ones I really know.

You know a lot of kpop idols can play piano or claim they can play violin when they actually just play simple notes (like maybe, my level ehem). Henry isn’t one of those. As a person who was also classically-trained***, I can tell you Henry is really highly-skilled. (This is what impressed me the most about him!) Bruh, classical music isn’t easy! And yet his skill level is could’ve-gone-to-classical-music-school-if-he-wanted-to-but-instead-he-went-kpop! What can we expect, though, he started at age 5. But dear, his skill in this area as an all-rounder is so impressive.

*On TwoSet Violin: I am a really big fan of TwoSet. I stanned them hard! I know that last year they released a review on Henry’s playing. I literally watched it as soon as it came out cause I was excited to see Henry in Twoset. Some fans took it as an actual roast video. But they aren’t really roasting him as a person and even as a performer. They made that very clear. They were simply reviewing it from a classical professional’s point of view. In fact, they said that they are actually impressed that he’s actually good in playing even though he’s an idol, and he’s even better than many pop violinists they’ve seen. Although they pointed technical stuff about his performances, they kept praising Henry’s playing throughout the video. And no, it’s not just because they’re simply afraid of the fans. It’s because it’s true. They even explained some mistakes in the performances and recognized that it could’ve been nervousness. Nobody’s hating on Henry, ie. they’re not enemies. Even if he might have pre-recorded some of his violin performances, it does not diminish Henry’s violin skills. (In fact, this is confirmed by our favorite world-class violinist, Ray Chen. Henry has the skills!) And who the hell hates on someone this good at playing instruments while also being good at singing, dancing and other things?

***You could say I’m classically trained cause even though I keep skipping years, I did get classical training on my instruments and my main genre is still classical. If you’re curious about my classical instruments: I play the piano. I studied violin for a time, but I did not really pursue it as much as I wanted to. I am now studying classical guitar. Not saying I’m good at my instruments at all, but at least I got some classical training.

PERSONALITY

I honestly haven’t watched a lot of variety shows with Henry in it. I’ve only seen him on an episode of 2 Days 1 Night long ago and just recently an episode of Happy Together. But his 2D1N episode left a mark on me that made me love him. He was crazy, almost in like a 4D childish way, and was really funny. Super outgoing too. He seems like that extra friend who’s super fun to be around with! I really loved him there. He also seemed really kind and approachable in Happy Together. So yes, I like his personality.

Anyway, that’s that. I just remembered him ‘cause he’s on Weverse. (And I’m now on Weverse. Haha)

i've always found this one incredibly cheesy and very easy to do wrong so, the girls fight scene in s1

Hi Ela 🌺 I love that you've asked me this, but ngl I'm not sure that I can give a satisfying answer. My cheese-o-meter needs, like, a serious amount of lactose to get moving. I mean, I answer my asks with a cute emoji after a greeting, I'm not sure I get to call out the fight scenes' cheesiness.

But I did watch all of them and I have a few comments:

Skam - Honestly the song is so well-chosen for the scene and the choreography that I had to watch the scene a second time because the first time I got distracted by just how fun it is to watch.

Skam France - This version is the cheesiest for me. I have no issue with choosing classical music for the fight, but I wish they'd gone with something more hardcore, in the style of Ride of the Valkyries or O Fortuna, because it is portrayed as a full on fight. My other problem with the scene is that Philippine Stindel just... isn't good at portraying Emma, not in s1. So where you could see Eva was devastated not just by the fight but by Iben calling her a fucking wh*r* and the fact that it all happened so publicly... Philippine is the go girl, give us nothing! meme. Literally every other girl in the squad emotes more than her and seems more shaken by the fight than she is.

I also didn't think the fight was well choreographed or shot, I really have no idea what's going on for most of it.

Druck - I think the song in this instance is well chosen, and the choreography is good too, there are a lot of individual shots where we can see how each girls throws down. I also have to shout out a couple of details, such as Jule handing off her bag to one of her friends before she comes for Hanna's life, as well as having a fourth girl come in from the rear.

Skam Italia - The one thing I have to say about this scene is that for weeks Italian fans were hoping that the Latin dictionary came out to play for this scene, as it’s a thick book that can do some damage. And Italian Sana did indeed use it to beat down a girl, which resulted in much rejoicing.

Skam Austin - Iiii don’t like this scene. Not because it isn’t well shot or choreographed or the music sucks or it’s cheesy. My main issue is no way this would happen at a US high school without everyone involved getting suspended. US high schools are hardcore about student behavior, and it’s only gotten progressively more strict with time (because of gun violence). In particular, the fact that a school club (Kelsey’s dance team) was involved, would mean that the dance team would be disbanded, because they don’t even have a history at the school and all five members participated in the fight. This is one scene where Julie just didn’t have the cultural insight. It should’ve taken place literally anywhere else. 

But I also feel like the music reflected Megan’s feelings more than the actual fight, which again, not sure I’m into when it is actually a full blown fight.

On the plus side I will highlight Zoya yelling, “Run up then, bitch!”

Skam España - Honestly, I don’t think the team wanted to do a full on fight, so they kinda didn’t. And I know people have issues with the song they chose, since it’s slow and it doesn’t go with a fight, but like... What fight, though? Lara slapped Eva and then was pulled away by like five different people lol. And the violence isn’t even the point of it, but rather Eva feeling like the jig is up after Jorge realizes what happened. (Which is what the lyrics are about, but that’s a bonus for people who understand Spanish.) Idk... I have emphasized that the songs chosen for other versions don’t work when it’s a huge fight, but in the case of eskam, the emotions are all more complicated because it’s not just the girl squad, but also Jorge and Lucas (who heard the whole thing from Eva earlier in the episode). There are some eskam scenes where I haven’t liked how they were adapted, but this one I do like.

Points for Cris coming in late (because she was hooking up with that other girl) and being all, “wtf happened???” 

And as an additional note, the team then drove the point home that the slow song was only happening in Eva’s head, by having Inés post a video that she was ostensibly sent by someone who was at the party, and we can hear that the song that was actually playing during the fight was Better Now. Also, you gotta love the Queen Bitch move of publicizing the humiliation for anyone who missed it. Inés really ate that revenge cold over and over and over again. 

Skam NL - Funnily enough the fight clip illustrates my major gripe with Skam NL and it is that Skam NL hugely relies on knowledge of Skam to make sense plot-wise. I will go in more detail in another scene ask, but in most other remakes, the girls explain that the Penetrator Chris’ girlfriend found out his boyfriend cheated on her with the Eva, or in the case of eskam, Lara spells it out for us. Here, Engel is barely done feeling sorry for herself before Gijs’ gf and her squad cuts in and knees Isa’s crotch. And if you’ve seen seven other versions of this scene, you know that’s P-Chris’ gf and she found out Eva made out wih her bf, but if it’s your first time watching? I can guarantee most people have no idea who this girl, who we previously saw once, in a costume, even is. 

But I do like that Isa fights back, because I think it goes with her personality. The song choice is fine, but it made me wish they’d used Smack My Bitch Up by The Prodigy instead. 

WTFock - This scene gave me the weirdest feeling that Marie didn’t actually intend to come for Jana’s whole career, but to just kind of send her a warning? Like in some of the other versions, I get the feeling the Iben is ready to punch the teeth out of the Eva’s mouth, but the whole vibe of this scene gave me a kind of drive-by shooting vibe, like their hearts weren’t really into it. I think it’s the way they don’t really need much physical force to be pulled off the girl squad. So I would say this is another remake where the fight didn’t really work the way it did in Skam, even though they actually reused the song from the original clip. (Die Antwoord’s Baby’s on Fire.) Adding to the lackluster effect there is the issue that this clip doesn’t close the week as in Skam, and it definitely doesn’t feel like an episode ender. It’s the first clip of the week. Druck also had a clip after their fight (that was back when Druck didn’t know wtf it was doing), but the fight itself still felt like an episode ender.

I think that rando giving Zoë her beret back was a fun detail though.
