"Tragedy is about the characters being unable to change their fate" WRONG tragedy is about us, the viewers/readers, knowing where their actions will take them and how easily the looming tragedy could be avoided if only they stepped off the path but the characters not having access to this knowledge. It's about hoping every time that they'll make different choices but knowing that they won't because they don't know how it ends hope/believe it will work out.

Tragedy is about dramatic irony and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.
