do you have any predictions or theories for what asriel will be like in deltarune? im curious to hear your take

whatever happens i NEED the cheerful, sickly syrup sweet, rose tinted nostalgia that everyone in hometown paints asriel with to splinter to pieces. i hope he's fucked up. i hope he's meaner than anyone expects. i hope he's a person, rather than an idea.

Something I feel like people forget regarding Deltarune's ending

Alright, so we all know that the game will have "only one ending," right? We're all on the same page.

Alright. I've seen a lot of people theorize about that, and there are two main arguments regarding it. #1 is that it's a lie, using the Steam Page's question mark on the "Only One Ending" as a smoking gun.

Combined with the Weird Route, people use this to say there will have to be multiple endings.

The other one I see is people suggesting that, for one reason or another, the Ch2 Weird Route was an exception, and their smoking gun is the original insistence on there being only a single ending. The argument there is that not only will there be one ending, but there will only be one route for the main game.

But here's something I don't see many people notice:

Deltarune Chapter 2 only has one ending.

People seem to think that the Snowgrave Ending (fight Spamton, Berdly is Fallen Down) vs. Pacifist Ending (Queen is happy) vs. Murderer Ending (Queen is sad) are endings. They're not. Those are the context. Susie always walks around with you. Kris always slashes Toriel's tires. Kris always opens a dark fountain. The actual ending is always the same, whether Berdly is alive, has a broken arm, or is dead.

My theory is that there will absolutely be alternate routes, but they won't change the actual ending. It's possible that half of Hometown will be six feet under or trapped in the code by the end of the game on some route. But no matter what you do, the actual ending of the game will be the same.

Context is everything. Even if the events appear exactly the same, they could mean wildly different things. Kris opening a Dark Fountain on a Normal Route is them trying to have a cool adventure with their friends. On a Weird Route, suddenly it's massively confusing.

one of hometown's biggest notable features to me is that the people in it are consistently talking about the past + about asriel + about other stuff in a way that makes it obvious that they want kris to react in certain ways

while it's not unreasonable that kris might miss their brother, or might feel certain ways about the past they shared with him... it's interesting that kris (a character whose major storyline involves having their personhood suppressed by an outside entity) is constantly attributed to feel certain ways by the people around them! people who, as shown, are not correct about kris' feelings on other topics. makes you wonder how accurate their assessments of kris' feelings towards asriel are

Finally showing off my (deltarune) older Clover design! (As well as my tentative Asriel design 👀) Larger sprite and additional thoughts under the cut:

They're at college with Asriel and Chara and are majoring in chemistry. Martlet adopted them off the streets when they were pretty young and they latched onto her straight away, and the two of them live a few hours away from Hometown.

(Berdly always drags them into playing video games with him during family gatherings. They only really care about super smashing fighters and shooters though.)

Azzy can be kind of a dick now that he's free of the expectations everyone has of him in hometown and his friends enable this waaaaay too much.

Today, Deltarune fandom, I present to you: the potential inspiration for the bunker/shelter south of Hometown, brought to my attention by a friend of mine who's a Massachusetts local.

After starting this chapter late in 2023, it's finally done, and I can start writing up the next chapter in this dumb AU of mine. WHOOOOOOOO! If you somehow stuck around reading this chapter to the end, thanks for reading. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Notes : -I will have to make proper ref sheets and share my thought process on deciding the Dark World designs for Frisk, Chara, Asriel, and Flowey, but generally for the humans is basically my method of slapping some armor on some normal clothes like I did with my KOH!Asriel design. -Frisk is based off the "Hero" concept art from the Undertale artbook. The idea to make that the Dark World design came from @souptaels here

-I tried making chara based off the unused human sprite but it didn't look right . So I ended up doing what @akanemnon did for their Twin Runes comic for Dark World Chara. I also gave their clothes something similar to my KOH!Asriel design. -Flowey in the dark world I just used his sprite colors from Undertale in contrast to the toned down color hues I normally gave Flowey. His petals are pointy like how @kamikotorayama391 draws flowey and now he has his wardrobe from KOH!Asriel (you probably notice a pattern here...) -Asriel's dark world form is obvious. Its just his GOHD outfit but without the emo eyes and face markings, lol.
