Queerphobes don’t like the fact that queer people have been re-defining the word to be an umbrella term for the LGBT+ because:

(For some context: Homer finds out that he befriended a gay man and freaks out. The episode makes fun of his homophobia.)

Everytime I rewatch “Homer’s Phobia”, I realize just how revolutionary that episode truly is
that was 1997
here was are now in 2023 and that episode is still sadly extremely relevant, but I thank whoever wrote that episode because it was showing that hatred, homophobia, blind hatred, is the real enemy
it hurts my heart just knowing that we’ve barely begun to change for the better as a species,
homophobia is still a huge problem and I really hope that by the time I have grandchildren, they can grow up in a world where they won’t be judged for who they fall in love with
as a Gay Trans Man, we have still have a long way to go
I only hope that the new generations will watch that Simpsons episode, I think they’ll be pretty amazed

i’m just supposed to believe that not only would homer simpson object to a nice gay man with a cool car hanging out with his family, but (flaming) moe and barney would, too? and they’d…take bart hunting about it?!
i know sitcoms, especially animated ones, play fast and loose with characterization, but this is not my beautiful d’oh. this is not my beautiful $20 can buy many peanuts.

Feel free to add other popular material you see this with, but sometimes I just see intolerant folk using memes from popular media as templates for their homophobic/transphobic agendas. However, maybe the thing they're a fan of doesn't so much agree with what they're saying. So how about we look at some of them?
Tumblr media
On 16 March 1992 Star Trek: The Next Generation aired an episode called "The Outcast" which indirectly addressed the topic of transphobia and homophobia, where the villains of the episode was the system trying to oppress and convert the LGBT character of the episode. Gene Roddenberry, creator of Trek himself, even gave his blessing to let LGBT subjects and characters be discussed in Star Trek.
Tumblr media
On 16 February 1997 The Simpson's aired an episode titled "Homer's Phobia", in which Homer is shown to be homophobic. By the end of the episode, however, he apologizes for his assumptions and discrimination, and tells Bart (who he was trying to force into being hypermasculine) that if he were gay, that he'd be perfectly fine with it.
Tumblr media
On 3 September 1997 South Park aired "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" where Stan is told by an adult that homosexuality is wrong and tries to force his dog to be heterosexual. He, however, learns by the end that it's not wrong to be gay, and gives a speech to the town in opposition of homophobia.
So, people who want to post memes of these shows to suit their discriminatory values ought to know that the very thing they're hiding behind is in opposition of them, and that they didn't suddenly "go woke" in the 2010s. It says a lot that the creatives you laud think you're wrong.

"Pridewaves: Mixed Media Sketch on June 11"
Barney: "Is it okay to come out, Mr. Gay man, sir?"
Moe: "I'll do anything you say... anything."
from ep "Homer-phobia"
(Insert snappy social commentary quip here)
Well, I thought I'd redraw another small moment from a classic Simpsons episode in a pop art style again.
This time, I decided to use my gel art sticks that had been sitting unused in my closet for several months. Thankfully, they still work beautifully.
And since we're deep in pride month, I figured why not get a bit more colorful than usual for a sketch!

oh, you changed your profile pic for pride month? like a corporation? what do you have to say about your support for rainbow capitalism 🎤 /j
implying that displaying pride is inherently rainbow capitalism actually means that YOUR rainbow capitalism. in order to make up for your homer phobia you need to send ten billion dollers directly to my paypal
