Every year for Christmas and the holidays, it is a family tradition that we spend a few days making at least 7 or more of our most favorite homemade desserts, cookies and candies for our friends and family to enjoy! The holidays for me are all about handmade memories. Sometimes I feel anxious- Ransom is almost 7 and I feel like we only have a few short years to fill him with the memories he will live off of for the rest of his life. A couple years ago I made him an advent calendar covered in tiny scraps of wrapping paper from his great-great grandmother. Every year I fill the little boxes with something different- this year since he’s so car obsessed I found a little lot of vintage micro-cars and wrapped them up for each day! Okay y’all… this an all food account now. 🤣 Not really but ‘tis the season for entirely too many sweets. This is Jason’s chocolate swirl Mandelbrot. We fell in love with this at @zabarsisny and Jason adapted one of their recipes to make these yummy goodies. If you haven’t had it before, Mandelbrot is a twice baked “cookie” like biscotti but with a little more oil and baked at a different rate so it is less crispy. These are our treat with a good strong cup of Zabar’s coffee during the holidays. Imagine a cross between biscotti and the best chocolate chip cookies you’ve ever had. Homemade Holiday Decor As an artist, maker and realtor, I am always thinking about how to bring art and the handmade into home decor, And the holidays are the most festive time for playing with ideas and creating a gorgeous and unique home! Since I work with fabric and paper in my artwork, its no surprise that patterned fabric and papers find their way into my holiday decorations too. The great thing is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money. I use fabric scraps to make trees for a table, ornaments, and garlands. Get some paint pens and personalize store bought stockings, ornaments and table decor. Start a tradition of putting the year on all new creations and before you know it, every decorating season becomes a time capsule to explore. Repurpose furniture to become a stage for your creations.
