This was also much like the background concept I came up with when we were having our 'damn it I keep buying all these builder-games and then not playing them for long because they are never quite the game I want... hey what does the game I want LOOK like?' moment. Not LotR-based, but the intro being like:

The Wizard-lord's reign of terror is over, the lands are free. The leaders of the rebellion offer great rewards to the ones who infiltrated the Wizard-lord's forces and brought him down - Ravenwing, Shadowhand, Greyknife, and the never-seen Shadow* - but they only wish to go home.

*yeah I need to fix that repetition but the concept is you never see any of these codenamed figures clearly.

Cut to description of various groups of 3 adults plus an elder going back across the mountain to the war-ravaged homeland, all matching that incredibly generic description, and the implication that one of these groups is the ones who killed the Wizard-lord. Player basically gets to pick names, genders, relationships to one another, sprites, etc etc, but there's a few preset options.

The elder - aka Shadow - is a special character archetype ("Nan") who doesn't do anything productive but provides advice and knowledge; they're the one who remembers how things were before the war.

The other 3 map (in customisable ways) to the top of the 3 basic skill-trees:

- Homeheart: food preparation, mending, fibercraft, medicine

- Farmer**: crops, animals, construction, hedges, drainage

- Woodswalker: game, wood, foraged food, charcoal burning??

**needs a better name

As the game goes on you unlock specialisations and can attract specialists.

That's about as far as I got before I got distracted thinking about something else. lol.

games that i think would be great, but no one will ever make:

lord of the ring ‘farming’ sims

like, the ring has been destroyed, peace has been achieved

sadly, the whole war has left ithilien, the shire, moria, minas morgul, the mirkwood, osgiliath, and tons of other places all across middle earth a dreadful mess

which is the perfect setting for having a random unimportant character go ‘fuck it, now that all the big warriors and heroes have done their job, i’m gonna do mine and plant some fucking flowers here’

and like. rebuild all of the things, and repair stuff, and plant flowers, and just. make all those places the story shows only in ruins be proper, real communities again
