IKR AHHHH you have no idea how shook I was when I read that meta on Twitter. It made me open my eyes more man! I should’ve known!The fact that GORO AKECHI is the ONLY one to push Ren to the boundary of not being the silent self-insert protagonist he should be. Bruh, that’s canon.Like heck, I did mention before in an old post that the “Our Light” song is Ren’s POV speaking to Akechi in like FREAKING PARAGRAPHS MAN! Silent protagonists don’t even say that much! Plus the player cannot make him hate Akechi anymore, no matter what choices they make, they cannot change the fact that Ren wishes for Akechi in the dream world. That’s Ren’s independent will. That’s love man. Now that I think about it, hard for me to explain… and I think I am looking too deep into it, but.. is Ren being a silent protagonist an act? Similar to how Akechi’s princely demeanor was an act? What if Ren is also restrained by the player’s will, just like how Akechi is restrained by Shido’s will? Yeah I’m looking into this too much lmaoAgain, Ren’s REAL self doesn’t follow the characteristics of a “self-insert silent protagonist”. He has more personality and independent will in P5R. Seems like Goro isn’t the only one who can be himself in the 3rd semester. Wow they both made each other express who they really are in the 3rd semester.
