#holy grail shall we say. that all men need to find and pursue. is bizarre
there’s a trend I’ve been seeing in my IG feed that perplexes me, so I want to consult my fellow complementarian Tumblr lads and ladies
Is a man’s family intended to support his calling, or is his calling intended to support his family?
#because I can see how I would agree with both statements#but I feel like lately I’ve been seeing some people say things like#‘you as a wife need to come second to your husband’s mission’#and i’m like#ok let me interpret that as charitably as possible#the only thing I think can rank higher in priority than one’s family unit is obedience to God#well I was gonna say ‘if he’s a pastor or a missionary then’ but I was like no that’s dumb#because what kind of pastor is it who doesn’t exemplify the Father and the Bridegroom by prioritizing his own family#I’m sorry I just think this perspective HAS to be circuitous to be valid.#your family is supporting your calling so that your can support your family#and in doing so you obey God#if anyone has another angle from which to come at this lmk#because I feel like I do a decently good job of filtering out legalists and antinomians in equal measure#but the spike of people in my feed talking about this nebulous……#holy grail shall we say. that all men need to find and pursue. is bizarre#and their family is described as serving in essence as a stepladder toward reaching that grail. is bizarre. and i think wrong#but again they may just be verbalizing it poorly#because i DO think families should be as supportive as possible of their heads.#but if he cares what I have to say I’m not going to let my husband go do the whole Japanese salaryman routine#just to climb the ladder for its own sake#mobile#x#Christianity#my personal belief on the matter is that a man’s family IS his calling. looking for calling? have you got a wife? have you got kids? congrat#that’s your calling
