HeatTagshipping and Conway fans out there!!!! Look what I just found!!!!

Okay. So a couple of days ago I went to the new bookshop that had just opened in my town and came across this huge Pokemon Encyclopedia hidden amongst a lot of art and crafts books and picked it up out of sheer curiosity, without many expectations. It was really complete, covering almost every season of the anime, yet it focused mainly on Ash journey, as to be expected. Still, I decided to check the Sinnoh League chapters... And oooooohhh boy, DID I FOUND SOMETHING!! 💗💗💗

Now, can you people even begin to imagine the hype, the raw emotion I felt when I saw that not only there was a full section covering Hearthome City Tag Battle Ark but that it also included a small yet beautiful paragraph revolving one of my all-time favourite Pokemon characters?

Okay. So not only the author is stating that Conway IS NOT a stalker, but rather a kinda social incompetent guy (Seriously, what's up with some people? I admit he's meant to be portrayed as some sort of weird, mysterious, slightly creepy character but a STALKER??!! Then how should we qualify Team Rocket who has been following Ash around how many regions already!?). They've also outrightly stated that he was a GREAT PARTNER for Dawn. Their words, not mine!!!! 😍😍😍😍

All right, perhaps most of you are currently thinking that this is not that much of a big deal, but given the fact that there is only a very few people out there who actually care about this character (I'm not even talking about a possible romantic dynamic between him and Dawn; even though that I do ship them romantically, I would have also been fine if the series had fueled their relationship in a more platonic way), the fact that I was able to find some Conway appreciation crumbs within an official Pokemon book (at least I think it's official) means a whole awful lot to me.

Also, I know that the photo doesn't show it but do you remember how Brock's partner Holly, despite not being initially interested in him, ended up developing some sort of romantic slash deep admiration feelings towards him? Well, I can assure you her paragraph did NOT have not even half the amount of praise they gave to Conway.

Long story short, I've got a new headcanon now. Until someone can prove me wrong I'm going to assume the author of this book is an undercover HeatTagshipping fan, or at least a secret Conway fan.

There could have been a section in Doomed timeline where you battle against pirates right after hi-jacking the S.S.paradise (was that the name of fhe ship?)

idk. I was thinking about Mosely and Amber finding some extra clothes in Valarie's room then suggest MC to put it on. Thus you would have a third alt outfit, either as an elite captain or a pirate, based on the host you are playing as.

And before you reach the Blacksteeple castle, you get to do some extra side stories.

Battle against pirates whom oppose the princess and thought MC group were part of her army. (Crawli and Holly/Rorim) These pirates used to work under Princess before they rebels and took the pokemon with them to form a resistance group.

Visit an island that somehow has few pokemon still exist, Melia decided to stay on the ship to help others while you gonna go look for foods and items, either you do alone or you get to bring an extra NPC with you. Options are Kenneth/Mosely/Amber or even Madame X (you have to talk to her multiples times before she gives in). If it's Kenneth, he would drop some lores, if it's either Mosely or Amber, there would be an event which you help them catching their first starter. If it's MX, she just stay silent, of course still reacts annoyingly when you interacts with her multiples times.

Alrighty! I was looking forward to the heart of the cards and the return of the shadow games... But it looks like we're getting alchemy's first law of equivalent exchange. Which I'm okay with really... just a little disappointment. But anyway.

Lets talk about what just happened.

Boy man child over here seems like... hows the best way to put this... like Kaito Goshikida at home? Like he even has his own chaise your dreams and push it to the MAX catchphrase in Gotcha, which like... holly hell sense this is JUST pokemon it's one planck length away from being copyright infringement... But I like em! Seems like a wholesome lad and a good boi which after Ace is a breath of fresh air. I'll take Diet Kaito over sugar free Tendou any day. All in all a 6/10 boi which I'm interested in seeing more of.

Girl Lady over here on the other hand has a diverging path ahead of her. We can get a cool competent and strong battle heroine who's got tertiary rider written all over her... Or we can get a "B-B-B-BAKA" TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTsundere who's gunna be a petulant child while the writers make Hotaro instantly good at everything she's trained her entire life for... no one i know is gonna know what the hell i'm talking about, but i am so full of thoughts right now-

Lockwood & Co. Pokemon AU okay lis- LISTEN TO ME-

Early Galar still developing has a BIG ghost problem... Well, a problem with Ghost type Pokemon, that is. I'm setting this in an era in which big cities like Wyndon, Motostoke, and Hammerlocke are still developing because it seems like an era in which humans might still be wary of Pokemon, especially more "dangerous" types, like Ghost. (Think of how humans in PLA were scared of Pokemon and it was uncommon to befriend and train them.)

Anyways. Who better to look to for during this troubling time? Kids and teens, of course. It's the Poke-Universe, after all. "Agencies" of sorts that specialize in helping people with their Ghost-related problems start popping up because of how widespread this becomes, which of course means Lockwood & Co. pops up too. Lockwood, Lucy, and George form a ragtag group of trainers that perhaps, after solving a few cases, start to question if these Ghost Pokemon are even a "problem" in the first place.

I'm so sane, okay, I know this such a niche au to even consider, but I'm sO FUCKING NORMAL ABOUT THIS BOOK SERIES THAT I OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO COMBINE IT WITH MY SPECIAL INTEREST-

I feel it would be common for agents in this universe to have at least one partner Pokemon by their side, usually Dark types or a Pokemon that can learn a Dark type move. Maybe the fact you have to work alongside Pokemon in this specific field is why a lot of kids are joining, simply because they're not completely set in their fear of some Mons (obviously the Ghosts types here are still highly feared. I also am playing more into the darker aspects of Ghost Pokemon's dex entries, to up the fear factor and make it so that people wouldn't want their houses "haunted". Thus making the existence of these agencies make sense.)

As for the characters, I want to give Lockwood an Umbreon maybe? I'm not really sure why other than maybe because it reminds me of the "death glows" Lockwood sees in the books. I could also see him with a Korkorok because of his sunglasses, or a Mightyena because of how his smile is described as "wolfish" sometimes...... Actually, scratch that, I might give him a Luxray because of it's "x-ray" vision and it can learn Crunch.

I could see Lucy with a Sneasel... I can't think of any other Pokemon and I don't know, I feel like it suits her. I know Skully is actually going to be an Odd Keystone in a jar that's maybe vaguely shaped like a skull (or is actually a skull, do we really have any limitations on what the keystone can be?). Anywho, one of the spirits trapped inside the keystone starts to talk to Lucy of course~

George has a Scraggy and a Blipbug (his Blipbug stays at home). Easy choices for my boy George. Holly has a Purrloin, and Kipps has a Thieval I think.

As for an actual plot for this au? I have not a clue, I think it would follow the general plot that we already have in the books. I know Annie Ward's ghost would be a Froslass at least-

this is a long ass post because i accidentally started rambling about nonsense (jjba characters playing video games) so im putting it under a cut to spare you all. read at your own risk...

oh i know im a massive fucking nerd when i realize one of the reasons i love jojos so much is because it's got characters from both japan and america (and many others countries which also fucking rules but for the purposes of this post im singling out these two) which means i can imagine them having some stupid lost in translation shit going on. okay. so:

kakyoin talks about the famicom and avdol is like ohhh i know that*!! and they talk about mother** and dragon quest*** and final fantasy****. and they're chatting happily but joseph looks at him he's like man i only know that super mario game. and kakyoin is like ohhhh i played that too!! and so the two of them are yapping away it's absolutely fine until someone mentions koopas (as in, the minor enemy, koopa troopas) and kakyoin's like. Huh? kuppa's the final boss of the game, the one with the big shell that's got spikes on it...? but joseph is like no thats bowser??? koopas are the little ones with the shells you can jump on and send rolling!! (polnareff is a master system diehard fan so he's just watching this with confusion. he barely even knows who pacman is let alone mario.) kakyoin doubles down on this hes like Listen. ive played more video games than all of you combined. the small ones are called nokonokos. the final boss is kuppa. and they start arguing about it (loudly).

avdol is watching this happen and he says to polnareff i didn't even know anyone other than mario had a name. polnareff replies man all i play is monopoly on my sega master system. Whenever i go to an arcade i just play pinball (he forgets there are other games he's just a absolutely entranced by pinball). joseph and kakyoin are arguing for fucking ever and they only stop because they get attacked by a stand user or something.

many years later jotaro will think back on this conversation and realize a few things. 1) he sees modern (by his standards, so, at least 20 years old today) depictions of mario and he thinks ohhhh kakyoin knows that guy. 2) after living around gamers in both japan (kakyoin) and in america (joseph, when he visits, and later his wife and jolyne*****) he does some research (picks up a book about the history of video games on a whim) and discovers that joseph and kakyoin were both, in fact, right-- in japan, the smaller turtle-esque enemies are called "nokonokos" and the final boss is called "kuppa", but due to translation nonsense, in america (and most western countries), the smaller enemies are known as "koopa troopas" and the big bad himself is known as "bowser". he wonders how the hell that even happened. he then goes on to continue his tradition of being an old fucking man in spirit when it comes to video games. he likes games like mahjong... solitaire... minesweeper... the fanciest he's ever gotten is text adventure games. maybe one of the older simcity games, if he's feeling brave.

jolyne lets him play tetris on her gameboy one day and just doesn't get the appeal at all (but holly absolutely does so jolyne will play tetris with her grandma for ages). joseph can kick jotaro's ass at any version of mario kart even in his 80s and 90s because jotaro cant even handle atari games this "gamecube" and "wii" stuff is too much for him.

anyway over in naples polnareff is struggling to discuss pokemon with anyone because he played the french version, which translate all the names to french, but in italy they just use the english names for the pokemon. if anyone asks him about pokemon hes just given up on naming any of them at this point. so at my hypothetical fucked up stardust crusaders reunion that they all bring their buddies to, polnareff is like what the hell is a "butter free". a stick of butter pokemon? what? and jolyne is laughing her ass off while mista tells him no dude it's the butterfly one, the one episode of the show you cried at and he goes OHHHH YOU MEAN PAPILUSION!! jolyne is still giggling but she does actually find it really cool to know butterfree's names in different languages. she tells him it's butterfree in japanese, too (she is not fluent in japanese so she makes jotaro help her. he can name a ton of pokemon but he doesnt even know about types or evolutions.), like how pikachu is the same in english and japanese!!

this is kind of unrelated but if you asked me most jojo characters' favorite pokemon i would not be able to tell you. however i know jolyne likes butterfree (she likes butterflies she likes gen 1 its a no brainer). i think jolyne's mom likes ho-oh i don't have a reason i just think shes into the bird ones and thats a sick as hell bird one. jotaro's favorite is magmar****** because that's the only one he can remember the name of. like he seriously remembers magmar more than pikachu. joseph likes bulbasaur because jolyne showed him the whole pokedex and he said bulbasaur was his favorite because its. the first one you see in the dex. and hes stubborn enough that he just stuck with it. if he wasnt a stubborn bastard i think hed say meowth because i know jolyne makes him watch the show and he gets a kick outta team rocket. holly likes mew again i dont have reasons other than thats her vibe. polnareff likes farfetch'd. the vibes are right.

kakyoin and avdol sadly died several years before the first pokemon games came out but if they had survived: i think kakyoin would like cherubi but considering that one only came out in 2006, i think his initial fav is seel (and dewgong). dont have a reason for this he just seems like a seel and dewgong kind of guy. avdol likes tauros the most but everyone assumes he likes flareon or moltres instead and hes like ehhh. theyre cool but tauros is cooler. gen 1 is his favorite methinks but if someone (jolyne) got him to play gen 2 i think cyndaquil would be a second favorite (and probs his favorite starter. he always picks charmander in gen 1 but aside from charizard hes pretty neutral on that evolution line).

anyway when polnareff finds out about pinball games (like on handheld consoles) he goes nuts. his favorite console game for YEARS is pokemon pinball for the gameboy color (and it's only usurped by pokemon pinball ruby & sapphire for the gameboy advance). his favorite pc game is 3d pinball ‪space cadet (but second place is always whatever the most recent version of monopoly for windows is). (he doesn't bother buying new consoles just for monopoly but if monopoly releases on something he DOES own? oh you bet your ass he owns it. he was an early adopter of iphones so hes also played every shitty version of monopoly for iphone. he spends money on micro transactions and then lies about doing that. he doesn't even collect physical copies of monopoly, like, the actual board game? he owns this one beat-up copy of monopoly las vegas edition and he's like yeah why would i need another one? i already have one...? (he does not understand peoples confusion when he goes on to buy multiple monopoly video games instead.) he ate the monopoly money once because he wanted to know what it tasted like (he wasnt even playing it at the time. he went and got out monopoly and ate a single bill of monopoly money and then put it back).

holly cant play a lot of games because fast-moving camera angles make her motion sick however joseph does not share this problem (or if he does? he hides / ignores it because he wants to play these fuckass games.) so he loves playing first person shooters. he loves half-life and fucking. counter-strike i dont know. i dont actually really play fps. anyway he doesnt own any consoles and he never will (he says hes "too old" for that and "he'll be dead soon" but he's been saying that for 40 years so they all just know hes being a stubborn bastard) so instead he spends that money on making sure hes got the beefiest gaming pc ever. if he can't run a new game due to his hardware (not often) he just replaces it with the newest possible part. i need you to picture his gamer setup i will describe it to you:

imagine your grandparents house. maybe even your great grandparents house. if youve never been to yours or anyones grandparents house then just google it i promise i am talking about a really stereotypical old people house. like this house has had the same cord phone for decades. the furniture has not been updated in just as long. however at like the kitchen table (the dining room table HAS to be empty. "what if we have a bunch of guests over?" suzi q says. they havent had more than three guests since holly moved out.) is home to joseph's gamer setup i can picture it now. he's got a single cheaper monitor that sometimes just flickers off if you hit the table by accident. the case for the computer itself is from like 2007 and joseph refuses to update it because he doesnt want one of those "obnoxious rainbow light-up computers" (fair). he does not know you can still get plain cases these days. if something doesn't fit in this stupid case he takes it to a friend (someone he found on craigslist who is charging him ridiculous prices) to make a custom part for this case so he can plug in xyz and have his floppy / cd / dvd ect. drives. this case has so many wonky custom parts it looks like frankensteins monster and its pretty much the ship of theseus at this point. anyway he's got this boring as fuck computer tower underneath this really basic wooden table in the corner. the monitor sits on the desk with a keyboard and a mouse (both wired. joseph gets really annoyed if he has to change the batteries in a mouse.) and theyre all black with no decorations. the desk is probably too big to just have a single setup on it but probably too small to set up a second one (which wouldnt even get used, anyway). the only other decorations on the desk are framed picture of family and friends, which WOULD be nice, except all the frames are cheap, broken or both because this table is kind of wobbly and he's always getting really mad at his games and knocking them over on accident. he's got a medium bookshelf next to this table which is home to huge but very disorganized collection of pc games that has not been updated much since steam became a thing. he owns the sims 1 & 2 with all their expansions. he owns a lot of bootleg copies and indie games he got from many different people over the years, all with sharpie label on the disc (and in a jewel case if the creator was feeling fancy). he owns every half life game & expansion.

he gets into emulating at some point but he doesnt own any controllers and refuses to buy one so he plays all these games with keyboard controls (he doesnt know you can change the control mapping so he just gets really good at using weird fucking controls).

he loves simpsons hit & run. he's not a huge minecraft guy but he does play if jolyne asks him to (and she does). if this is one of the rare times hes playing mc on his own he only plays on hardcore and sees how far he can get on a quest to kill the ender dragon (he usually doesnt even make it to the nether). he loves playing awful romhacks. please picture joseph joestar in his late 90s playing a fnaf game. okay i think thats it

oops this post has gotten really far off track from my original point of "i think the sdc having video game conversations get confusing cause of localization differences" but thats alright. old man joseph playing ultimate custom night ok?

*it's also called the famicom in egyptian arabic everyone say thank you to the wikipedia editors who translated the NES wikipedia article into so many different languages! even so, avdol does seem like the kind of guy (to me, at least) to know lots about different games in different regions, even if he has not, in fact, played most of them.

It was definitely Ingo's childhood memory. But beside the young Ingo in his memory was a smiling child whom he had never seen before. Ingo tried to remember who the child was, but the child's face was covered in thick fog.

The only clue is that the child was a black angel like Rei.

"Ingo? Are you okay? Ingo? Ingo!" "Ah..! Rei!" "Ingo, You just seemed to be possessed!" "Well, something just popped up in my head… But I'm not sure what exactly that something is…" "Oh..Ingo…." "Ah, but now I've sidetracked us with this talk. Let's get back to training." "OK..!"

Ingo tried to continue Rei's training, but Ingo's partner Melli rushed in calling Ingo's name.

"Ingo!! Ingo!!!! INGO!!!!!!!" "Melli? What's the matter?" "It's a call from the leaders!" "Then you can call me by phone, right? You have a smartphone, too." "It can't be a proper phone call in this rural village where the radio waves are so weak that there is a loud noise in the voice! I'm barely answering the phone call from our leader!" "Ah… I see. Ingo asked Zisu to train Rei and he flew to Alabaster Iceland, where Pearls' headquarters are located.

Ingo entered the leader's tent, the largest of the tents where Pearls' guardian angels are staying in Alabaster Icelands, and met Irida, the leader of Pearls, who was waiting for him. But Irida's expression was restless and not good.

"Leader Irida! Guardian angel Ingo has arrived!" "Ingo! You came!" "Diamonds Melli told me it was your call. Irida, what's the matter? You don't look good."

Irida spoke cautiously to Ingo.

"Hey, Ingo, you said you're from Unova, right?" "Yes. Unova is my hometown where I was born and raised. But why are you suddenly talking about my hometown?" "Because…Unova is now being attacked by black angels…!" "What?!"

According to Irida, black angels dressed in black and covering their faces with black masks are attacking Unova, And the black angels call themselves "Team Plasma" and are indiscriminately attacking the angels living in Castelia City and Driftville City, including Nimbasa City, which is located in the center of Unova.

"Palina and Diamonds Iscan were dispatched to Castelia City, and Lian and Diamonds Mai were dispatched to Driftville City." Lian's on the move, too? Ingo hurried to Unova.

'But by the way, everyone else was born in Hisui, so they don't know about Unova.. I'm really worried.. Well, I hope Irida and Adaman gave them the Unova map..'

Hilda, Bianca, and Cheren were fresh angels who had just grown to be 15 and had just graduated from school.

In celebration of their graduation from school, they made a bold plan to travel all over Unova, and after a long time of preparation, they set out from their hometown of Nuvema Town and looked around Unova's towns and cities as planned, and they just arrived at Nimbasa City in the center of Unova. So they were going to make good memories in Nimbasa City.

"First, I will ride the Ferris wheel in the amusement park. I heard that the Ferris wheel here is famous, so I should try riding it at least once." "I'm going to watch a musical! I heard that cute characters dance on stage! Hilda! What are you going to do?" "Well, shall I watch a tennis match at Small Court?" "Then shouldn't you leave quickly? The tennis match is about to begin." "Oh! I see! Thank you, Cheren!" "You're welcome, Hilda." "Then we should say goodbye here for a while."

Hilda, Bianca, and Cheren were about to disperse for a moment, when suddenly black angels appeared in front of them.

"Ahhh!!!!" "Is that a black angel?!"

Black angels covered their faces in black clothing and began attacking angels in Nimbasa City with blunt weapons such as baseball bats, tonfa, chaffing, and wooden hammers.

Unfortunately, the targets of the black angels included the three friends.

"Knock it off!"

A black angel in madness with an eerie smile without a mask swung a triangular sign on which the train was drawn.

"G..Guardian Angel?!" "Ugh! Why is Unova so wide and complicated?!"

Fortunately, Melli, the guardian angel, arrived and subdued the Black Angel, who attacked Hilda, Bianca and Cheren, using his bomb-shaped holly Weapon.

"Guardian Angel!!!" "Hey, kids! It's dangerous here because of the black angels, so hurry up and run to a safe place far away!" "We're not kids! We're also 15 years old…" "There's no time to argue about that now! Run away! Kids!"

Melli, who saw Hilda, Bianca, and Cheren run away, threw a bomb-shaped holly Weapon at the black angels in earnest.

"The great Melli's holly weapon attack!" "Argh!!!" "By the way, when will Ingo arrive?!" I heard he's from Unova here! Then he should come sooner!" "Take this, guardian angel!" "You take this~!"

Most of the black angels were caught up in the explosion of Melli's holly weapon, and as they blacked out, the black angel with a creepy smile swung a sign at Melli, avoiding the attack lightly.

"……" "Avoiding all of the great Melli's beautiful attacks…! That smiling black angel..What the hell are you?!"

The black angel approached Melli and whispered.

"I am Emmet. I am a Team Plasma."

Emmet swung a sign at Melli.

"INGO!!!!" "…….Ingo..?"

Ingo defended Emmet's attack.

"I arrive, right on schedule!" "Huh? right on schedule?! You're so late! I almost got in trouble!" "I apologize. It happened because I was overpowering the black angels who attacked me on the way here." "……." "Ingo! watch out!" "…..!!!"

Ingo fought back, avoiding an attack from Emmet, who was brandishing a sign at him. And so did Emmet. Neither of them backed down.

'But that guy who looks like me.. He just swings recklessly, so I can't read the moves!'

However, unlike professionally trained Ingo, Emmet's movement, which was not trained at all, was unable to read the movement because he was wielding it recklessly, making it increasingly difficult for Ingo to prevent his attack.

'Also, I think I've seen him somewhere.. Why..? Why is that..?! Yet I feel as though I was on the cusp of remembering something just now…'

Also, the more Ingo looked at him, the more he remembered something deep in his head, as if he had seen Rei, the harder it became for him to concentrate on the battle.

"Please Stop the attack now! Innocent angels are suffering because of the attacks of black angels like you!" "…….."

Emmet, but I promise you something. If I go back to my hometown, I will be your guardian angel.

Emmet said to Ingo, who was breathing heavily, with a bright smile.

"Yup. As expected, Ingo is a hypocrite. The verrrrry worst hypocrite ever."

And hit Ingo hard with a sign.

Ingo, who could not avoid Emmet's attack, fell down after being hit by a sign.

"Good night, Ingo. No. Good night, the worst hypocrite."

Holly hummed her agreement. She’d never shared anything close to Demetria’s energy, not when they were children and certainly not now. But it was nice to hear what she had to say anyway - to have a nice, normal chat about normal things, to pretend her own life wasn’t a constant carnival of disorder.

That said…

“So,” and here Demetria’s tone turned serious, “how are things with you?”

Of course she couldn’t avoid it forever. The fact that what was meant to be a simple trip to Sinnoh turned into a full blown monster hunt.

“Fine. I haven’t seen… it since the pic I snapped yesterday. I’ve just been following its trail.”

“You don’t have to engage with it Holly. You are not obligated to solve this region’s problems.”

“I’m the hero of Kalos, Demetria. Feel like it would be a bit of a dick move to just leave ‘em to it.”

She heard it then. The sound that had been playing on loop in her head since she’d first heard it the night before. The cry of a wild pokemon, or- or something like a wild pokemon. The sound of shrieking static, and breaking glass.

Holly tensed. The sharp intake of breath on the other side of the phone told her Demetria had done the same.

“That was it, was it not?”

“Yeah. Yeah, that was it.”

“Holly…”

“I’m ok. Talk later, alright?”

She hung up before Demetria could argue, and started moving forward more cautiously than before.

Her hand tightened involuntarily around Bubble’s pokeball, her finger held firmly over the release button. If the gems covering this thing’s body were anything to go by, it was likely a rock type - hopefully her Greninja would be the perfect opponent to it.

Stalking through tall bushes now, easing her way through the Sinnoh wilderness, Holly’s heart pounded in her ears. The strange cry came again, and she was stunned momentarily, wrestling with her own instincts - to run, to hide, to destroy -

A few more hesitant steps, and she finally saw it again.

It hadn’t gotten any less disturbing. Stood on two legs, stooped over, arms dangling gently from its sides. It’s back was to her, exposing the writhing mass of tendrils that emerged seamlessly from a back that seemed otherwise covered in some kind of strange black hide. But Holly wasn’t too disconcerted by this. If anything, she was glad it faced away from her.

At least this time she didn’t have to look at its eyes.

And maybe she wouldn’t need to endanger Bubble after all. The thing hadn’t noticed her after all. Her other hand reached slowly into her bag, pulling out a quick ball.

Wait. Wait for the perfect moment. Hold your breath. Then-

A Staravia took sudden flight from a nearby tree. The creature startled. And Holly threw the quick ball.

It connected, thudding against the creature’s back. It tensed immediately, before being consumed by the light emerging from the pokeball, and disappearing inside.

It shook once. Twice.

Holly held her breath.

And the ball cracked open again.

The thing stumbled away, turning to face it’s would-be capturer. And those eyes were turned on her once again.

Holly gasped, hiding her face on instinct. It didn’t help, she knew it wouldn’t - there was no where on Earth she could have escaped that gaze. Those eyes staring into her, and out of her, and-

The pressure lifted, and Holly gasped as the creature turned tail and fled once again.

“… shit.”

Another failed capture. And with her luck, if she didn’t catch that thing soon someone would get hurt. Or killed.

She gritted her teeth in frustration, before glancing into the bag that hung by her side.

“fuck, I don’t want to have to use this…”

The masterball had made its way to the top of the pile of pokeballs inside, taunting her with its violet hue that reminded her all too much of the monster’s terrible eyes. As a rule, Holly was against masterballs, against the concept of stripping any Pokemon of their free will in a bid to capture them. You could capture any Pokemon if you could only earn its respect.

But if she was in a race against time - considering she didn’t know what this thing could do, how much damage it could cause - well, maybe her hand would be forced.

Chestnut has the most prominent scars out of all my OCs I think. (takes place in the same universe as shattered legacies)

She's missing a leg, missing part of her ear, got a nasty scar along her back ,and scarring across one of her eyes. basically she got stuck in an animal trap but was luckily saved by the hunter that placed the traps and rushed her to the vet. She struggles a bit with balance as she's not used to missing a leg, her right eye can't see as good as it used to, mostly only making out blurry colorful blobs, and her back gets a bit sore if she overdoes it. The only cat who knows the story is an old cat named Cloud that she met who is helping her find her way back home to her colony.

I also have my BSD OC Da Vinky (Da vinci). Xe has scars on xyr hands and xyr nose due to xyr inventing. xe doesn't wear safety equipment besides goggles so xyr poor hands and gone through some pretty nasty injuries.

Dana has a little X where her eye should be because it's missing. no real backstory there it just is like that because she's a bread snackie.

Evren has some scarring from when he and his sister Stella were escaping the underground. he got pretty hurt down there trying to protect Stella and some of the wounds scarred over. No one really knows the story besides his sister.

Pyrrhus has a scar along his nose because of a bad fight he accidentally found himself in with another pokemon at a very young age. No one knows the story and Pyrrhus tells a different tall tale every time someone asks.

Sunny has a prominent scar on her back which she got in a fight with her previous colonies leader when she dueled him for his position. the only ones who know the story is her sister Poppy, her niece Holly, and the rest of her old colony.

Trinkets got scars on their little monkey hands because protective equipment hasn't been remade yet and so their hands have gotten quite beat up. The scar along their eyebrow and eye is from when they got crushed exploring some ruins of human civilization. one of the human buildings was very unstable and it crumbled and some debris crushed them. Luckily they where able to climb their way out and Nanas was able to tend to their wounds.

And then Zekai has scars on the back of his tail from when it got crushed as a kid due to him being stupid and playing where he shouldn't have been. No one knows the story because he's always too embarrassed to talk about it. he just calls it "the incident" before staring off dramatically into space.

Then we have the characters that have top scars lol not that they are ever shown in my art but y'know. Dr. Viktor Valentine has top scar, Aldric has top scars, Julian has top scars, and When Luca gets older he'll probably have top scars.

well it was about what kind of gym leader i’d be, so what type i’d specialise in rather than what mine would be; though i’d love to be a psychic ghost type, obviously

alas, i’m so glaringly average, i guess i’d be a normal type… well i’m enough of a nonentity to get voted for grade’s ghost after graduation, so maybe ghost fits after all ^^;

Gabriel complains about Amadeus macing him and asks Clarice for an eye exam. Quentin meets his new roommate (Amadeus) and is severely unimpressed. 2019: Fear in the Dark: Two teams of X-Men go to the fight club; Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Marvel Girl, Wolverine, Blink, and Dust are inside and see the trademark Asgardian hammer box in the main ring; Nightcrawler tries to teleport it out but is unable to and winds up fighting the champion, Craig Hollis; Wolverine and Blink see Skadi and D'Spayre in the crowd and overhear their plan to use the fight as a way to find the Worthy for the hammer; before anyone can act, the hammer box is broken and Hollis revealed to be the newest Worthy, Angrir; Scott’s team try to subdue Angrir and evacuate the crowd while Marvel Girl stops the roof collapsing, but lose the three bad guys in the crush; outside, Dominion, Xavin, and Spectrum are also on crowd control when they are confronted by Skadi, D’Spayre and Angrir; they fight, but Skadi and Angrir combine their hammer forces and escape; as the X-Men are leaving, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow approach them wanting to combine knowledge, but an emergency call forces them to all go to the Triskelion, which is under attack by all of the Worthy, plus the Dweller, who are after the last hammer; Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Dust and Spectrum join Iron Man against Nerkkod and Mokk; Dominion, Marvel Girl, Xavin and Captain America face Angrir and Griethoth and in the vault room, Cyclops, Hellion, Blink and the Hulk try to stop Kuurth, Skadi and the Dweller from getting to the hammer; during the course of the fight in the vault room, the Dweller is knocked out by Cyclops and teleported to the mansion, but the hammer box is broken and the Hulk becomes Nul; the bad guys teleport away and the X-Men head home; Jean and Amanda successfully combine forces to try and lock down the Dweller enough for Tandy to resurface.

A Review on a Most Fabulous Debut, Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt

Yes, yes, good noon. Welcome back to the blog. As you can guess, tonight's drink of choice is just some good, old-fashioned Fireball whiskey. I love cinnamon this time of year.

Anyway, I just completed another book that was bangers! So, let's talk about it. And, color me pink, it is a debut! Today's book review is on Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt.

Now, I'll be honest, I was not expecting much going into this book. YA has not been my genre as of late. I find the writing often times not aligned with my tastes and moster characters being your typical type of characters found in YA. As per my Owlcrate Subscription, I read a foresty-YA book this year, The Luminaries by Susan Dennard. And it was ... okay. Just okay. Sometimes I didn't want to pick it up. Sometimes, it felt like a chore to finish. And I rarely---so rarely DNF books. In fact, I have only ever DNFed 3 books my entire life. With that in my head, the plot of Together We Rot (as well as the cover, to be frank) intrigued me to the point where I was like, "Ok, TheDrunkenReader, let's give this a shot." And I had this sense that it would be something similar to The Luminaries.

But no the fook it is not! This book was incredible! Let's break it down.

*Sip, sip*

The writing style. Oh my gosh does Skyla have a mastery of words and is fantastic with her pros. Some of them are absolutely astounding.

Some of my favs (but there ARE so many I cannot catch 'em all, I ain't no Pokemon trainer after all) include:

"This feels like a fever dream. I'll wake up, dig a hole, and bury the memory away. Or maybe it's a nightmare instead. Either way, I'll follow it to the bitter end."

"Betrayal is a family of scars on my skin."

"I was raised on the edge of a knife, the type of life meant to chisel away at you until there's nothing left. My heart should be as hideous and haggard as his, but it's the one thing that stayed constant. My fear has turned him into something he isn't. Given him claws and teeth and the power to tear me apart. But he is not the monster I've made him. He is spiteful, vengeful, and above all, weak. I gave that power to him.

"And I want it back."

It reads almost like a Holly Black book, almost like a Stephanie Garber book. Almost like a Tahereh Mafi book, all three of which are predominately YA authors that I exceptionally adore. I didn't even recognize the beautiful writing at first because the characters do speak like teenagers because they are teenagers, but as you can tell from the excerpts above, their narrative voices are STUNNING! I wish I had noticed it earlier in my reading, but I did not pick up on it until around chapter 4, which, to be fair, is where the typical teenager stuff stops and the real story begins. It is for this reason, I think, that it was quicker for me to pick up on the writing style around that time as opposed to earlier.

So it reads very well, not like a typical YA book, and the characters are wonderful! I usually take issue with YA characters (I feel authors make teenagers a lot more whiny than they actually are) but none of the characters annoyed me. They all behaved in a way that made sense.

Wil is a woman on a mission, and I commend her for it. She is fearless and stubborn and yes, has an attitude problem, but she admits that she has one. She doesn't take it as a "cute quirk" or see it as the world should bow down to her. Rather, she is just pissed at the world (for good reason) and admits that she is not handling the problem properly but that this is the only way she knows how. Watching her grow from an incredibly angry teenager to someone determined to prevent another person she cares about from getting hurt was a wild journey and one I appreciated following.

Elwood ... my goodness. Elwood. His growth, his determination, his selflessness ... Sorrowful boy to the bravest character in the novel, and certainly one of the bravest characters in YA that I have ever read about. I want to tell you more, I do, but I do not want to spoil this character for any of you who want to read the book. His prose, his inner thoughts, they are majesty. A work of art. So much so that I hope, really, truly, desperately hope that more young adult readers pick up this book so that they can get a taste of just how whimsical, empowering, and magical words can be, especially in a book written for a younger audience.

*Sip, sip*

And the horror of it because it is listed as a horror novel and man ... man did it have some juicy, freaky moments. Not only is there a religious, God-worshipping-Bible-gripping-pregnancy-crazy-seed-planting-devil-of-the-forest-fearing cult, but it also gives a these-woods-are-haunted vibes.

AND ... *evil laughter* my favorite horror of all the horror types.

BODY HORROR!

Oh, the metamorphosis is sloooooowwww but man is it creepy. Like The Fall of the House of Usher by T. Kingfisher, The Last of Us, The Fly type of horror. And yet, so whimsically written that it almost doesn't read like horror, like damn, this book has everything I love!

*Sip, sip*

And the ending. Oh. My. God. That ending. My jaw dropped when there was about 5 chapters left. So, of course, I thumbed how many pages I had left wondering "how is this going to be fixed with such little time left?! What is happening?! What is this?! This is YA! This can't end like this!"

*Sip, sip. Sip, sip.*

Oh, but it did. And it hurt, but in the best way. It was a hurt that is bittersweet. A hurt that makes the ending linger with you. It is not a fairytale, happy ending. Not everything gets "fixed," but everything gets resolved. And even though the ending hurt, it was beautiful. It twisted my heart and yet, made me smile. It made me sad and yet made me joyful. Sometimes, in life, there is no fixing something. Not everything works out. Not everything can be repaired or planned out and followed through accordingly.

And that's okay.

Because there is wonder to be found in the courses we did not plan to take but have to. There is joy to be found in the sorrow. There are beams of light in the shadows of the forest. And there is beauty in unhappy endings.

Those are hard lessons that even adults struggle to comprehend. To teach young adults that not everything is going to go according to plan, sometimes you are going to get lost, but that's okay because it gives you an opportunity to find yourself is necessary and important. And Skyla, with this fantasy, horror book somehow manages to expertly display that in the incredible ending that she conjured.

Obviously, I highly recommend Together We Rot. I see Skyla going very far in her writing career. It is a rather short read but a damn good one at that.

Oh, I am also a mood, seasonal reader and this book is set around Christmas so absolutely perfect, grotesque, cozy little horror read.
