Such generosity! I work with a tiny group of community members who provide holiday gifts for youth in our community who may otherwise not receive much for Christmas. We do our best to fundraise during the year and are grateful for the amazing support we receive from the Sparta Quakers. And we rely heavily on friends, family and caring folks in the community to help us pull it together every year. This past weekend a friend travelled considerable distance to donate a large supply of beautiful holiday wrap, tags, bags with a generous $$$ donation. Plus a donation of toys from their friend. If your headed home to an unsupportive family today. Take a breath, close your eyes, and remember who you are. It’s one day, one dinner, and you can get through it. You are what you believe you are not what they say you are. I’m used to walk into Thanksgiving with dread because I knew this “family” already knew what they we’re going to say to make me feel bad about myself. The minute we walked in my dads mom’s house they would call my mom “ugly” in Spanish. In reality my mom was the most beautiful one there but they felt like they had to make her feel bad so she would be on their same vibration. Sideways comments were made because I had a baby at 15 and because I was very outspoken. On my moms side of the family I was mostly ignored. My dad was never welcomed and it always put me in a defensive manner. I’ve learned family is not always blood. I learned it’s important to create family so you can spend the holidays with people who value you. I learned the feeling that I had to be with blood related relatives who were intentionally draining to my mental well being was not worth it. I would have to spend months undoing the damage I took in. You are doing great at life right now. Your not behind, you don’t need to change, and you don’t need validation from anyone. Every person is lead in a way that most won’t understand and that’s okay. Send love to everyone and find peace within yourself. If you have an abusive family or no family and you find yourself alone today. You are my family now I’m your sister. I love you so much and I’m glad you found me.
