WIP Wednesday!! 💛
Believe it or not, I actually have been working on my Oblivion fic a bit between stuff for The Perfect Storm. Last week I was debating between posting this or what I actually ended up posting, so thought I'd share this now!!
Tagged by @hircines-hunter and @thequeenofthewinter!!! Not tagging anyone back this week, but do feel free to share if you have anything and tag me 💛
Drissa's being a stubborn so-and-so, whilst Florian has the level-headed braincell these two share. For once.
Also, does anyone else find it strange that you can just walk on in to the Imperial City after having literally just broken out of jail in Oblivion? I always avoided it at first thinking I'd get arrested but. Nope. You can just walk on in. So I thought to rectify that.
----
“Whoa whoa whoa, hold it there, Champ-“ Florian quickly cried out, rushing to in front of her and holding his arm out. “I know that that Blade fellow said that he would pay off everything to do with our imprisonment if we’re delivering the amulet for the emperor, but he most certainly wouldn’t have done it straight away, and those things take time to process.” There was a desperation in his voice, a fear. “Don’t go into the city just yet. We’ll just get arrested again.”
Drissa scoffed and attempted to manoeuvre around him, just for him to grab at her arm and pull her back. For someone she could only call a fool, who held back and used a bow for the entire time they had been fighting to get out from those sewer caverns, she was not expecting him to actually have any sort of strength. He should have been using a blade instead. Coward.
“Do you have a death wish or something?!” he quietly hissed, pulling her towards a recess in the outer city wall. “Those guards are out for blood until they get told by their superiors not to arrest someone, why do you even want to go back in there when we have to go to Chorrol?!”
“I need my stuff. My weapons and my-“
“No. You don’t.” She was almost taken aback at how assertive he had become in his fear. “Look, you’re in my world right now, Champ.” She glared at him. If he called her ‘Champ’ one more time- “We’re not safe going into the city for the next few days, possibly even weeks, and you would be delusional if you think that you can just go to your house and get your belongings. The guards will have gutted your home if you’ve been accused of murder to find any weapons, and might even take possession of the building for a time. Nobody can stop them or call them out on their hypocrisy because they are ‘the law'!”
Remaining silent, Drissa continued to glare at him. Then came a quiet tut. "Then how do you propose that we handle the inevitable assassins who will come after us for the amulet? Not with these pieces of crap from the sewers, that's what!"
He continued to remain in her path, though folded his arms over and let out a sigh. “I have contacts. One is in Weye, not too far from here. They will have a better chance at getting your weapon out than you will... If we – or rather I – can afford to pay whatever price they ask.”
Drissa fell silent, weighing up his suggestion. It sounded marginally better than the chance of getting re-arrested with the Amulet of Kings in her possession... So she let out a frustrated huff. “Fine. How much would it cost?”
“With luck... Just a favour.”

WIP Wednesday? Nah... How about fic Wednesday instead? 💛
Finally posting the first chapter of an Oblivion fic, with my heroes of Kvatch Florian and Drissa!
-----------
Fic rating: M
Fic relationships: Martin Septim/Male Hero of Kvatch
Fic description:
At a pivotal time for the Empire, in the wake of the Emperor’s death, two so-called heroes emerge from the ashes of Kvatch - an incompetent thief and a disgraced arena fighter. One takes the chance at redemption. The other seeks their own ruin.
Chapter description:
Florian and Drissa were two people from completely different walks of life in the Imperial City. The one thing that they both have in common? Ending up in the Imperial City Prison.
Chapter excerpt(s):
"We've been onto you for a while, Florian Livius. Now we have all the proof we need to put you behind bars." His mark had a smirk across his face as he approached them, which turned into a grin as Florian’s hands were bound behind his back. There was no way... He had fallen for a trap placed by these buffoons? "H-Hey, I'm certain that we can work things out. The bounty on my head can’t be that high, can it?" The guard who was keeping hold of his left arm glared at him from under his helmet. "Not a chance. No bounties and no running to your guild to get you out of trouble for cheap. Not this time." ------- “I’m sorry, did you just say that I am under arrest... For murder?” She scowled, feeling her teeth grind as she shifted her jaw. “The only times in which I have killed people were when I was fighting in the arena, and they were lawful kills – we sign contracts about those sorts of things!” Silence fell over the Dunmer as her eyes flicked between the small contingency of guards, and a familiar blonde head of hair she could see sticking out from behind a tree nearby. Oh, she knew exactly what this was about. She had killed the previous Grand Champion and took his place in the arena after they had unearthed some unsettling facts about his parentage. He had lost the will to live. He had asked for her to end him. “Did one of the Grey Prince’s fans put you up to this? He was the one who chose to step foot in the arena, his death was- it was a mercy to him, he was suffering-“ One of the guards cut her off by grabbing hold of her other wrist as she spoke – an especially easy task given that she was speaking far too expressively with her hand – before a manacle was clasped around it. “A murder was committed at the Waterfront, and our eyewitness places you at the scene of the crime.”

Okay - so I have set myself an aim to at least have a portrait drawn for each of my Elder Scrolls OCs. I have started drawing them over this weekend, and am going to gradually get them neatened out, coloured, etc....
These are the ones which I have started so far! Aelia, Drissa, Florian, Elyse, and Thea.
I have a long list of the rest to work on before I can so much as start on colours or anything though!! At least five more Dragonborn characters (Siriane, Iduna, Aevra, Ivetta, and Maewynne), and six straight up OCs (Elyse's parents Ingja and Edwyn, and the Whiterun Guard Foursome Ingrida, Barknir, Sorik and Fjora-)
I'll give more details about these five under the cut though, because I can😊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aelia
Imperial Hero of Kvatch who ends up mantling Sheogorath after the Oblivion Crisis is ended. She finds herself in the Shivering Isles after driving herself away from everyone through her grief, including her own child, which had her acting volatile and hostile towards those who wanted to help her. She does, however, have a sweet spot for flowers and butterflies, and always felt calmer around them.
Drissa
Known as a Hero of Kvatch alongside Florian, though is less visible in the spotlight than he is and that suited her just fine, because the spotlight had already shunned her. She doesn't join the Blades, and instead tries to find her place in the world, find a place where she belongs. She thought that she had already done that, when she earned herself the title of Grand Champion of the Arena through defeating the Grey Prince, but after getting framed for murder she finds herself with nothing once more. But don't worry - once she gets her revenge, a shrouded hand reaches out with an offer she couldn't possibly refuse. A family of her own.
She's blunt and prefers to respond to things with her hammer, but once someone breaks through the tough exterior, she's a bit more open. But only a bit. She doesn't know when she'll lose everything again, after all.
Florian Livius
Hero of Kvatch alongside Drissa, and is the more visible of the pair - quite ironic, given that he starts out as a thief in the Thieves Guild. Not a good one, mind you, as he had doyens sighing at the mere mention of his name with how often they had to clear bounties on his head, but on the days where he wasn't caught, he could bring in a fair amount of coin and that was the only thing stopping him from being kicked out.
After getting arrested and placed in the same cell as Drissa, then being a witness to the Emperor's final request and final moments, he had a moment where his mind faltered because for once, somebody actually believed in him - even if that somebody had just been killed before his eyes. The Emperor trusted him to get that task done. And after meeting Martin, and watching how he took the changes in stride... Florian made his mind up there and then that he would change his ways and be a better person because of Martin. For him, even.
He cut his ties with the Thieves Guild, and threw himself headfirst into his new responsibilities as a Blade, and to his amazement, realised that his reputation had flipped just like a coin - where once he was a criminal, he was now a hero. He strives to help others realise that they can do the same.
Elyse Verne
Dragonborn who takes pride in her mixed Breton and Nord heritage, so much so that she decides to venture north from where she spent her teenage and young adult years in Chorrol to Skyrim, to see the land that her mother, Ingja, would speak so fondly of. Obviously, she gets caught up at the border ambush, and sets forth the events which lead to her discovering that she is Dragonborn.
Rather than taking the advice of the Jarl of Whiterun and visiting the Greybeards, she instead tries to find her own way of understanding what she was by going to the place where her parents met - Winterhold. She spends six months doing her research at the college whilst avoiding her uncle in the city, unaware that she had very much caught the eye of the Thalmor through her very specific research topics. After six months and a lot of drama unfolding in Winterhold, she finally takes Balgruuf's advice... and almost exactly a year later, she defeats Alduin in Sovngarde. During this time, she made herself a home in Whiterun, and found that if there was anyone to put her trust in, it was the people of Whiterun hold and its Jarl.
Little over a year and a half after that, during which she defeats Miraak, Elyse finds herself slowly being dragged into the civil war taking place in Skyrim, but not with regard to the fighting, instead because of all the politics and her status. That worries not just her, but Balgruuf too, especially given that she doesn't agree with or want to be involved in the war, same as him. And those two happen to get very close in their solidarity...
Thea
Dragonborn who is a proud member of the Companions, though admittedly not as keen on being Harbinger. Of all of them, she found herself closest to Vilkas, and that closeness led to him being the only one to notice that she was not a fan of her title - even if she repeatedly kept saying out loud that Vilkas was a better fit than her.
The two of them gradually built up a system of mutual assistance, where she could tell when he needed help and vice versa, and it helped her with getting more comfortable in her role. Much of her part was helping him as he went through struggles with his lycanthropy until he felt ready to go to Ysgramor's Tomb, and even during that, she remained by his side even as Hircine lashed out against them both. She never mentioned to him that Hircine ended up punishing her for her involvement in cleansing both him and Kodlak of their wolf spirits though, resulting in her being plagued with nightmares of the hunting grounds and losing control of herself periodically when shifted.
Seeing each other through their troubles made their bonds incredibly strong, and they were the firmest of friends - even if one of them happened to be a werewolf.
She didn't really know when the two of them started being a couple though. They never really discussed it - it just sort of... happened. They gradually found themselves spending more and more time at her house in The Pale, just north of Whiterun, than in Jorrvaskr... and before they knew it, they were married and had a family of their own. Poor uncle Farkas was constantly travelling between the two places just to play with their children.

WIP Whenever💛
I haven't touched any of my Skyrim writing this past week, to be entirely honest. I might not for a short while, probably a couple of weeks, just to appease the burnout that I've been starting to feel.
However, I've had Oblivion on my mind instead and have been directing my creative fuel in that direction. In particular, two of my heroes of Kvatch, Florian and Drissa. I posted a WIP a few days back around Florian... So today it is Drissa's turn - and she isn't best pleased with being imprisoned, no less with Florian and Valen Dreth for company. I make Dunmer characters a lot in Oblivion and let me tell you, Valen gives me the creeps every time he makes the remark about 'being put in the same cell to have some fun before the end'. So naturally, Drissa wants to kill him.

-----
The Imperial whom Drissa was locked up with let out an amused whistle as he leaned against the cell doors whilst the man across the hallway attempted to address her with his woefully miserable attempt at flirting by going on about her supposedly imminent end. About the only thing he was flirting with was his own death – especially if he truly did try to pull strings and get them put in the same cell as he had been saying. Then there actually would be a murder that could be pinned on her.
Both men that she was in the company of – her cellmate and the other Dunmer in the opposite cell - were the exact sorts of people that she hated seeing in the crowds at the Arena. The ones who thought that she was there to be flirted with, and the ones who wanted attention for themselves. Of them both, she hated her cellmate's type worse. She was the attraction; she was the one putting her life at stake for entertainment. Not him. Not them.
But oh, with every action that he did she grew to hate him more. The way that he flicked at the curls in his hair, posing in such a nonchalant and casual manner. The way that his lips turned up at the corner in an easy smirk. It was foul.
“Based on the look on her face, I’m afraid that you are barking up the wrong tree. She’s not interested. Though if you are so desperate for company, I could always join you.”
The other Dunmer winced in response and shook his head frantically before his eyes fixated on her again and he mouthed something in her direction which looked very much like the phrase ‘you’re mine’. All that she did in response is scoff and roll her eyes. As soon as morning arrived, she would hopefully be far away from both of them.
Much to her relief, they quietened down after all of that, and she was able to turn her focus towards the iron cuffs about her wrists. They hadn’t been tended to well over their years of use, and had started to rust. It was wildly uncomfortable, though thankfully not as uncomfortable as the stare she was being given by her company.
“What?”
The Imperial honestly looked upset at how she had snapped at him, though his facade faded away quickly when he pointed to the cuffs before doing that ever-so-irritating flick of the curls in front of his face again. “I can get those off you easy. Already got mine off – there’s lots of stuff in here that can be used as a makeshift pick-“
“No.”
She was already locked up for a crime she was being framed for – she certainly wasn’t going to give the guards reason to actually keep her in there. Knowing that fan of hers, and his reaction to her arrest, it wouldn’t take long at all for her innocence to be proven.
It was just a shame that the damage to her reputation would have already been done.

I've been trying to get my mind off today, and given that I'm still very much in the Oblivion mindset - which I think I'll be in for a while, it's giving my mind a bit of a break from Skyrim which I think I need because I seem to be a bit stuck in a rut with my Skyrim writing - I've been writing for a fic which has been in planning for a while now.
I'm quite happy with this part introducing one of my heroes of Kvatch, Florian Livius, so I'm sharing a bit of that WIP now! Might post a bit based around my other one, Drissa, on Wednesday 😊
------
Oh, it was all too easy in a place like the Market District...
A flick of the wrist, a seam torn, and the spoils would spill. Given that most people in the area would be carrying money or precious gems in order to splash out, or were on their way to the arena given that there was a newly crowned Grand Champion that was drawing crowds, he knew for certain that there was something to gain with tactics like these.
There had been a time where Florian would have thrown subtlety out of the window, and gone for something a little flashier, to know that his actions had been noticed. However, he found – after getting a few too many bounties, and doyens starting any conversation with him with the question “How much is it this time?” – that he had a much better time carrying out his thievery in a low-key manner. Who would have thought that the more successful thievery required stealth and subversion… Not him, that's who!
But of course, it wasn’t his idea. Oh no – he had the people of the Imperial City to thank. He had been trying to figure out his next mark in the Elven Gardens District, just to overhear a particular conversation out loud. It wasn’t even that he was trying to overhear, it was more that it was so loud, there was no choice but to listen. There was a tear in the poor dear’s pocket. All of her money – gone!
From there, the idea simply clicked, and that night, as he had gone for a drink, he decided to try it out on a drunken patron of whichever tavern he had ended up in. A cut in the pocket, money fell out... And that night, he was able to splash out on a vintage Surilie Brothers wine – all on his victim’s coin, no less.
It was a nice bonus that he no longer had the likes of Armand looking on the verge of despair at the sight of him too.
Humming to himself quietly, he slowly began to stroll through the crowds of the marketplace, one hand fiddling with what he liked to call his 'lucky Septim' – even if it was just the shiniest of the coins he had stolen on that fateful day that he changed his tactics in thievery – and the other resting on the dagger which was tucked into his belt, ready to pull out at an opportune moment.
Soon enough, his eyes fell upon this one particular man… He didn't look to be the wealthiest in the crowds, but there certainly was something about him which caught Florian's eye. It had to be the smile. Or perhaps the eyes. Either way, it didn't take long at all for him to settle on him being his target.

Umbracirrus Writing Masterlist
Originally, some of my writing masterlist was contained within my pinned post, though it hadn't been updated since April, and the post in question felt horribly long. So, I decided to make this list separate to my pinned post and to have it link to this instead.
It is split into multi-chapter fanfictions and oneshots, with the oneshots all at the bottom. It only includes things which I have posted at least one chapter of (or posted all of, in the case of oneshots)! And I happen to have.... Well, a lot of other things in progress not even mentioned here.
Masterlist last updated: 27th October 2024
Multi-Chapter fics
The Perfect Storm (On AO3) - In Progress
Skyrim fanfiction
Balgruuf the Greater/Dragonborn (Elyse Verne - OC); background Irileth/Hrongar
Rated E on AO3
Slow burn, Romance, Skyrim's chaotic politics, Skyrim Civil War, eventual sexual content
Summary:
“What do you think will burn better? Another ballad of Mikael’s about Whiterun’s ‘assets’, or yet another letter from Ulfric Stormcloak asking for me to join him?" When the Dragonborn is facing pressure to choose a side in the brewing war, she sticks with the side which holds a special place in her heart. She picks Whiterun.
Tumblr media
Seeking the Sun (On AO3) - In Progress, precursor to The Perfect Storm
Skyrim fanfiction
Dragonborn (Elyse Verne - OC)
Rated M on AO3
Adventure, Angst, Skyrim main quest, minor canon divergence
She was free to go wherever she wished, drift around and allow her whims to guide her feet. But she had a plan… and that plan was Skyrim. Yes, it was a land full of strife, but it was still a place of great significance to her. It was her mother's homeland. When Elyse finds her life in Cyrodiil too painful to bare, she makes the decision to travel north, to Skyrim - unaware that she was Dragonborn, and that her decision would soon determine not just her own fate, but the fate of Skyrim... and potentially that of the world itself.
Tumblr media
Tenacity (On Tumblr) - In Progress, prequel to both Seeking the Sun and The Perfect Storm
Skyrim fanfiction (based in 4E 172/173 - approximately 28/29 years pre-game)
Edwyn Verne (OC)/Ingja Frosthand (OC)
Chapters - {1} (currently only posted on Tumblr, not AO3)
Enemies to lovers, Forbidden romance, tragedy with a happy ending
"Stay away from those mages and their college. They are nothing but bad news." That message had been instilled in Ingja since she was but a child. So after a chance encounter leads to her getting to know Edwyn, an aspirational student of conjuration in the College, she realises that perhaps... mages simply aren't as bad as their reputation would say.
Tumblr media
Tempest (on AO3) - In Progress
Skyrim fanfiction (based in the same version of Skyrim as The Perfect Storm, but is a standalone fic)
Thorne (OC)/Vilkas, past Thorne/Brynjolf
Rated M on AO3
Enemies to lovers, Found family, Secrets, Mental health issues, Companions questline, past Thieves Guild questline
The Thieves Guild were like the family which Thorne never had, though she never felt as though she truly fit in, even after reaching position of guildmaster. After a heart-to-heart with Brynjolf, she finds herself planning to amicably part ways with the guild and find somewhere that she could belong. Somewhere that she could feel happy. That somewhere ends up being Jorrvaskr much to the chagrin of Vilkas, who feels that she is hiding more than she is letting on.
Tumblr media
With light comes shadow (On AO3) - In Progress
Oblivion fanfiction (featuring two heroes of Kvatch)
Martin Septim/Hero of Kvatch (Florian Livius - OC); uncertain if my other HoK, Drissa Arys (OC), will have a relationship established or not.
Rated M on AO3
Character Redemption/Condemnation, Oblivion Main Quest, Oblivion Dark Brotherhood, canon character death, Found family
At a pivotal time for the Empire, in the wake of the Emperor’s death, two so-called heroes emerge from the ashes of Kvatch - an incompetent thief and a disgraced arena fighter. One takes the chance at redemption. The other seeks their own ruin.
Oneshots
A Moment in the Sunset (On here and AO3)
Skyrim fanfiction
Balgruuf the Greater (Elyse Verne - OC)
Rated M on AO3
As the sun sets across Skyrim, the Dragonborn and Jarl of Whiterun spend a peaceful few moments on the porch of Dragonsreach.
Tumblr media
"Do you surrender?" (On AO3)
Skyrim fanfiction
Balgruuf the Greater/Dragonborn (Elyse Verne - OC)
Rated E on AO3 (sexual content)
When business in Whiterun grows far too tedious for Balgruuf's liking, he takes a break to find his wife in order let off some steam. What starts out as a sparring session with Elyse on the Dragonsreach porch takes a heated turn.
Tumblr media
Kiss (On here)
Skyrim fanfiction
Balgruuf the Greater/Dragonborn (Elyse Verne - OC)
To be part of a bigger oneshot in the future (or maybe added in to The Perfect Storm eventually :3)
Elyse and Balgruuf sneak out of Dragonsreach for a night in the Bannered Mare without telling anyone, not even their housecarls, and end up sharing a dessert. A very messy dessert.
Tumblr media
Purity (On here and AO3)
Skyrim fanfiction
Vilkas/Dragonborn (Thea - OC)
Rated T on AO3
An odd, prickly feeling went down Vilkas' spine as he watched Thea navigate towards a wall, which upon further inspection, looked to have an indent about the size of a door. The sensation made him shiver, and he had to stretch his fingers with anticipation. Sweat was also pouring down the back of his neck, a looming sense of… not quite terror, but more along the lines that something was going to go awfully wrong if he were to go any further.
Tumblr media
Starlit (On here)
Skyrim fanfiction
Miraak
Miraak looks up at the night sky after his long-awaited freedom from Apocrypha.
