I got these monster, treasure, and trap dice from Viridian Gaming last year and while they don't get used in actual play much they do get used to get my creative juices pumping during prep. For instance:

Item of Legend - Glyph Trap - Elemental

The Fateblade is a legendary weapon which appears once a generation, wielded by a great hero in their hour of need but which vanishes as soon as their fate has been realized.

What most people don't know is that it bears a terrible curse; when you use it to strike someone down you are swapping your fate for theirs. Strike down a tyrant and you are destined to become a tyrant who will be struck down in turn.

It's last wielder, Hogga the Clever, figured out why by unwrapping the hilt: the Fateblade is not a blade, but a giant crochet hook with its handle sharpened to a keen edge. It is, in fact, the very hook used by the true Fate to weave the cloth of reality itself before they buggered off and left the maintenance duties to their three feckless children. In the wrong hands it could be used to make terrible changes to the world; fortunately all mortals can do is use it to make crude patches and repairs to the skein of fate.

Clever as he was Hogga could not figure out how to escape his destiny so he did the next best thing: he trapped it to make things as hard as possible on the next guy. In this case, a glyph trap that temporarily unbinds the magic that created the Fateblade, which reverts to the four gods of primordial chaos who were used to forge it in a world a'borning. Verdienstelijk Cercle onderuit tegen zwak Genk

Landskampioen Genk won zaterdagavond met de rem op van een iets meer strijdend Cercle Brugge dat alweer vroeg op achterstand kwam. Door de vele blessures en voortdurende sportieve malaise kregen enkele jeugdspelers hun kans. Hamvraag blijft of deze goede intenties behouden blijven?

Coach Bernd Storck stelde vooraf dat dit een match was waarin niets moest en alles kon, maar de Duitser wilde wel verandering zien. Helaas blijft het grote probleem van snel tegengoals te slikken toch aanslepen. Net zoals de derde goal van Charleroi was het opnieuw een centrale verdediger van Genk, Sébastien Dewaest, die twee verdedigers uitkapte en de uiteindelijke enige treffer van de partij tegen de netten joeg.

Het moet worden gesteld dat er heel wat een de ploeg moest worden gesleuteld, want met de (bijkomende) blessures van Jérémy Taravel viel het bijna enige brok ervaring weg in de defensie en met het ontbreken van Idriss Saadi en Lyle Foster liepen de twee ‘beste’ spitsen van groen-zwart er niet bij.

Na de openingsgoal viel er meer grinta te bespeuren bij Cercle Brugge met enkele goede kansen om een nochtans verdiende draw af te dwingen, maar onder meer Hazard en Gory lieten na te scoren. Het moet ook gezegd dat Hubert zich liet opmerken in positieve zin en wellicht zijn positie tussen de Brugse palen zal behouden.

Nog op te merken is het feit dat Storck risico’s durft te nemen. Hij offerde in de tweede helft een verdediger (Serrano) op om de jonge spits Olivier Deman in te brengen. De Duitser gaf opvallend veel kansen aan youngsters, want naast de startende Dekuyper kreeg ook Thibo Somers speelminuten. Spelverdeler Hoggas viel in het slot nog in voor verdediger Biancone toen het reservoir van Peeters en Donsah duidelijk leeg was.

Cercle Brugge startte in een verdedigende 5-3-2 line-up. Guillaume Hubert heeft schijnbaar zijn vaste stek veroverd onder de palen bij Cercle Brugge en naast de onvermijdelijke Naomichi Ueda liepen ditmaal Giulian Biancone (beloond voor zijn goede invalbeurt vorige week), Jonathan Panzo en Yves Dabila. Julien Serrano was de vijfde verdediger en het was de eerste match na zijn blessure. Stef Peeters blijft een vaste pion op het middenveld, hij werd ondersteund door de verdedigende Godfred Donsah en debutant Calvin Dekuyper. Kylian Hazard was er ook opnieuw bij en Alimami Gory kreeg de kans om zich te tonen bij gebrek aan Saadi en Foster. Hij viel ook al goed in tegen Charleroi.
