It's about two hockey players who couldn't be more different but end up being the exact kind of person the other needs in his life right now. (And they are roommates.)
You can pre-order it on Amazon and on Kobo! Paperbacks will be available closer to the pub date.

Icebreaker is one of the best books I think I’ve ever read. I know I say that a lot, but this really is one of the best. If you want a book that will have you on your knees and sobbing over hockey of all things, this is the book that will do it. I think I cried over this book three separate times? It’s just that good and I just want to scream about it into the void!
I loved everything about this book. From Mickey’s depression and coming out as bisexual to his family, to Mickey making real friends for the first time and having a crush that gets reciprocated. All of it was just so well done. And the fact that I absolutely adored all of the side characters just as much as I loved Mickey? I think that says a lot about the thought and care that went into crafting this story. I could read about Mickey and Jaysen and the rest of the Royals team endlessly. Anyway, this is one of my favorite books of the year. Icebreaker is getting a solid five stars, and if I could give it more I definitely would!

book review: thrown off the ice by taylor fitzpatrick
OHHHHH BOY OH HOLY SHIT THIS FUCKING BOOK 15/5 STARS YOU OWN MY HEART NOW
okay so I was not planning to do any actual book reviews on this blog but this one really merits it. more detail under the cut but as a preview: PCS/resulting health issues, hockey romance, my heart was absolutely torn to shreds
Tumblr media
Thrown Off the Ice by Taylor Fitzpatrick follows Liam and Mike. They're on the same team, but Liam is a rookie and Mike is a 30 year old enforcer. Their romance starts reluctant and hot and everything you'd expect from a forbidden contemporary romance that you have to keep hidden. Liam is high-energy and likes to push buttons. Mike likes his routine the way it is. Liam is a rising star. Mike is a traditional enforcer and that includes the physical repercussions that come with that role.
I won't go further into dynamic and plot but happy to discuss any potential CW/TW over messages.
holllllyyyyy shit this book just tore my heart out of my body and crumpled it up. I went through a whole travel pack of tissues and a few more. I still loved it so much. It may be hard for me to watch hockey quite the same way after reading this. Tore into me even more after rereading the dedication. Made me think a bit more about people like NolPat and Sid's post winter classic concussion (and so many others tbh. and my own sister.)
This book is part of a larger universe with many different reading orders but this the order I've gone in so far:
You Could Make a Life (published as an ebook on web retailers or available directly from the author in the uncut version [the one i read] here)
Giving In to the Influence (published here on Ao3)
Follow the North Star (published here on Ao3) (this ties in quite heavily with Thrown Off the Ice)
Vinny Gets a Life (published here on Ao3)
Thrown off the Ice (published as an ebook on web retailers or available here directly with a bunch of shorts included)
there are still so many stories in this universe but this is as far as I've gotten so far. if you search "you could make a life reading order" you'll probably get some answers about other ways you can take it

Ok, so I've read my first hockey romance book.
The book is 'Time to Shine' by Rachel Reid and I.....loved it!
Maybe it's because the author is a longtime hockey fan but I felt that it was pretty accurate (take that with a grain of salt, I'm a new hockey fan and haven't learned it all yet) and there was lots I liked about it!
I'm gonna try to keep my bullet points from revealing *too* much but sorry in advance in case I fail that.
>One of the main characters is a tall backup goalie (Landon) and he's appropriately weird!
>it wasn't a huge angst fest, which I personally found really enjoyable
>anal sex wasn't the 'main event,' it wasn't treated like the relationship was lacking because they didn't have it
>it was a very 'intimacy in the form of loving each others company above everything' romance, which was sweet
>in my opinion the goalie was giving demisexual (speaking as one myself, I felt that his inner voices when he was basically like "I don't know everything about my sexuality and who I'm attracted to but I kinda don't care enough to really figure it out" was *so* true to how I feel)
>the other main character is Casey, a bisexual, possibly adhd, extroverted, sunshiney, short boy who's the star winger (and he's a delight)
>there was NO casual misogyny
>the story was more about the character development, so no long scenes about playing hockey. Which I thought was a good thing, because sports don't really translate to the written word very well
>actually, I'm not done with the whole demi-goalie thing. He doesn't get when people are instantly ready to have sex with someone they just met. His attraction to people happens only *after* he gets to know them. Zero awareness when people are flirting with him because it doesn't seem to cross his mind that oh yeah some people just want sex right away. His sex drive is up and down, and being aroused is a bit of a "oh this is a notable occasion" thing (unlike Casey, who seems to live in a constant state of kinda horny). Anyway, he never gives himself a label, cause I think it's a bit of a "I like what I like without needing to put it in a category and that's good enough for me", but I *do* think that demisexual would fit. (Seriously, I felt that my experiences with attraction and crushes was perfectly represented in this book, right down to his "I know I'm attracted to men, not sure one way or another about women" like, that's me!! I'm like that!!)
>have I mentioned yet how supportive Casey is of Landon's boundaries? Cause he's like, super respectful of that shit
>I think there was an appropriate amount of them finding each other hot in their gear
>this author really understands when a guy is considered old in hockey years (not the main characters tho)
>there was NOT only one bed. Even better, there were so many beds but they still found a way to share one for 'platonic' reasons
The point is it was an adorable book that captured my attention so well I finished it in an afternoon

REVIEW: Offside Hearts by Nikki Lawson
3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐
2 words. Noah Blake 😍
Noah Blake is like an angel sent from heaven to bless us all. The story is good and steady with plenty of excitement. It's not crazy or exceptionally unique, but it's exactly what I wanted after reading so many fantasy romances. It could have been shorter, but I still managed to finish it in just 2 days because Noah Blake was that good.
Although Noah's obsession for Margo was almost too much at times, and some of the story was resolved too easily… I still really enjoyed him and Margo.
I needed a break from my usual reads, and this book delivered! Super cute and fun!

hello! I just finished reading your inn AU (fun and cute!) and hopped over here. I saw your post from a few days ago asking for hockey m/m recs, and that's basically my batsignal. I'd recommend anything by Rachel Reid, especially Heated Rivalry, which is the perfect enemies-to-lovers romance. There's also a nice series by Avon Gale, Scoring Chances. You've probably come across Check Please by Ngozi Ukazu - adorable web-now-print comic. New & delightful - the Trade Season series by Cait Nary.
ah hi hello!!! first off: glad you liked the inn fic!
secondly: THANK YOU FOR THESE RECS!
I literally started reading Heated Rivalry ummm... two days ago? and last night I stayed up till 5am finishing The Long Game so I am already HOOKED. I also polished off Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy's Him & Us and whew, LOVED those. And I'm waiting for my copies of Check Please in the mail because I'm a sucker for a graphic novel and reading webcomics hurts my brain.
so excited to give into the other ones you've suggested! THANK YOU!
