“No, your brain isn’t goo,” the doctor’s tone was monotonous as he spoke, “You just have a concussion.”

“Oh, lovely. Wonder how that happened...”

“Well, according to the man who brought you in, you...fell out of a tree, apparently.”

“...oh yeah. Makes sense, then..”

“Well, now that you’re awake, perhaps you can answer a few questions?”

“I’d rather not, but thanks for asking.” She tried to rise up, the IV tubing on her arm pulling taut. She winced, freezing at the sharp pain in her arm.

“Please be careful. You’ve been in a coma for almost a week, you’ve suffered both internal and external damage, not to mention severe dehydration. I’m not going to ask for your full medical history or even what happened to you..yet. Let’s just start with a name to put on your charts.”

She settled back onto the bed, pulling the covers up and hiding her arm under it so she wouldn’t have to see where the IV tube was going. “My name’s A---” she paused. If the doctor noticed, he didn’t have time to comment before she continued. “--Ayano. Ayano Mizushima.”

The doctor pulled a pen from his pocket, writing something down on the chart. “Well, Miss Mizushima, welcome to the Underground.”
