The fact that it has an SD card slot that would allow me to upgrade the memory is seriously tempting.
The memory is one of my concerns about just using the old ipod; I don't recall what percentage of its memory I had previously filled but I do know that in general file sizes have gotten a lot bigger since like 2012 (and less optimized for space. Don't know how much that's affected mp3 files in comparison to actual programs/games). So having more wouldn't hurt.
I also do love a good electronic brick. I feel like the potential to come out of a collision or fall unscathed is an underappreciated feature of technology.
Based on the video, it looks like if the V signature bothers me I could potentially counteract that by adjusting the equalizer?
The black glass on the back would probably drive me nuts so OP's big sticker sounds like an idea I would want to imitate. Sadly none of my big stickers are square so I'd have to buy something for the back, but I wonder if I could get away with wallpapering the back with washi tape and putting my sticker on top of that.
I wonder if I can get away with using my external hard drive to store my music library on once I rebuild it and still update this thing properly. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to but computers are weird sometimes. (I am using more of my PC's internal storage than I'd like right now so hopefully I don't have to take anything out to fit all the music.)
I think I'll start checking that store page on incognito mode for sales. Tbh my old device was purchased by my mother and it was a new release at the time, so even the current $122 price is probably about half of what she paid for an ipod in the late 00s.

Recently found out RockBox still exists and is updating, and since the shitty firmware was my number one concern with dedicated audio players that was all it took for me to buy one and see if it was still as easy as it was when I hacked my old clickwheel iPod (it was)
This thing is a metal brick with clicky buttons and a headphone jack, the little wheel actually spins and is VERY satisfying
Immediately put a sticker on the back and some washi tape, now I just have to find something the right size to cover the logo on the front while looking cute
