everyone can have their own opinions ofc but it will always annoy me when people criticize tsoa and point to patroclus not being portrayed as masculine. when. like. he is mentioned to be strong, he is the only one of the two ever mentioned to have a beard. achilles is the one much more generally associated with femininity in the book (“features fine as a girl” is one of his first descriptions) and also. the book is so much about how violence and war and pride corrupts and how masculinity is so tied to that. patroclus is literally meant to be an example of a masculine character who does not seek glory in war and how he gains a good reputation and a legacy among the people in troy not because his fighting but because his medical work. anyways. screaming.

This is inspired by the HMJ music video. But imagine Maryse telling Jack she’s going to help her mom decorate for Christmas and he offers to hang her Christmas lights outside for her. Maryse is like are you sure but Jack insists and he falls off the ladder😭 He okay though but tries to act tough but later wants to be babied in private.

Flashing Lights Concepts

Maryse was thrilled to be back in New York for the holidays, especially since Christmas was her mom’s favorite time of year. The house was already filled with garlands, stockings, and the faint smell of cinnamon, but there was still work to be done. As she helped her parents unpack ornaments and string lights for the tree, she mentioned that her mom usually hired someone to hang the outdoor lights.

Jack, who’d come along for the trip, immediately volunteered. “I got this,” he said confidently, earning a skeptical look from Maryse.

“You don’t have to do that,” she told him, folding her arms. “They’ve got someone who does it every year.”

“Nah, let me help,” he insisted with a grin. “What kind of son-in-law doesn’t hang Christmas lights?”

Maryse gave him a playful side-eye. “First of all, don’t go promoting yourself just yet. Second, are you sure? It’s a lot of climbing.”

He kissed her cheek, waving her concerns away. “I’ll be fine. Just watch.”

Later that afternoon, with a ladder borrowed from the neighbor and a tangled mess of lights in hand, Jack got to work. Maryse stood in the front yard, bundled in a coat and scarf, laughing as he untangled the string of lights with a mix of frustration and determination. Her mom watched from the porch, cheering him on while sipping hot cocoa.

“You okay up there?” Maryse called as he climbed to the top of the ladder.

“I’m good!” he replied, securing the lights along the roofline. But just as he reached for another section, the ladder wobbled. “Uh-oh,” he muttered right before the inevitable happened.

With a short, awkward tumble, he landed in a pile of snow, the lights still clutched in his hand. Maryse gasped and rushed over, while her mom shouted, “Oh, no! Are you okay?”

Jack sat up, brushing snow off his jacket, looking more embarrassed than hurt. “I’m fine,” he said, trying to sound tough. “Didn’t even feel it.”

Maryse crouched down beside him, her lips twitching as she tried to hold back a laugh. “Are you sure? That was a pretty dramatic fall.”

“Positive,” he insisted, standing up and dusting himself off. “Just… don’t tell anyone, okay?”

She smirked, clearly filing the moment away for future teasing. “No promises.”

That night, back inside the house, he started playing up the situation. “You know,” he said, lying on the couch with a pillow behind his head, “that fall really did a number on me. My back’s kind of sore.”

Maryse raised an eyebrow as she sat beside him. “I thought you said you didn’t feel it.”

“Yeah, well… maybe it’s catching up to me. Might need you to nurse me back to health,” he added, giving her his best pitiful look.

She rolled her eyes but couldn’t help smiling. “Oh, so now you want to be babied?”

He nodded solemnly. “Absolutely. I think I deserve it.”

Shaking her head, she leaned over to kiss his forehead. “Fine, you big baby.
