Design Engineering: ‘Architect Club’
On Friday we launched our Design Engineering: ‘Architect Club’ at DACA! Over the past few years it has become very apparent that more and more young people are taking an interest in Architecture and the built environment, so we have been working hard to put measures in place so that students can learn skills - such as our Year 7 Technical Drawing project and our Year 8 Architecture project. They’ve been a great success and students are so proud of how their drawing skills and understanding of designing sustainably and responsibly have developed - they are SO talented!!!
So ‘Architect Club’. HM Government, MOBIE, Design Council and BRE have launched ‘Home of 2030’; a competition to afford opportunities to young people and professionals alike to design a sustainable, buildable, safe and comfortable home for our future. We are entering the Young Persons Design Challenge, aimed at 11-18 year olds. Promoted in assemblies all week, we had a good turn-out on Friday lunchtime from students from Year 7 to Year 12! It was lovely to see the excitement of our younger students; some of their knowledge is incredible! Our older students have a keen interest in Architect and know this opportunity will enable them to learn so much more. Exciting times - I think you know by now that we love a good competition 😉

RAM in the UK? Dentists tell the Government that NHS dentistry is failing to cope
There has been a lot of conservative UK press (Times, Daily Telegraph) about how badly the NHS is failing UK citizenry with respect to dentistry. Everyone knows that dentistry has been partially private in the UK for years - although treatment costs have been reduced through the NHS. But most recently UK dentists rallied to pen a letter to the UK Government, stressing that dentistry is under duress both with respect to cost and also inability to serve. Stan Brock got wind of this (he has known about the Wiltshire-based dental charity Dentaid referred to in the Telegraph piece, for a few years now, since a push to establish clinicians at refugee camps in Calais, France, and since Dentaid's own pop-up clinics around the UK) and is again pushing for a large-scale London expedition. He is, after all, an Englishman who finds it difficult to witness his native country in a bind.
The Telegraph article of 2 Jan 2018 titled 'Dental crisis leaves Britain reliant on charity from the developing world ' which mentions Dentaid, RAM, Dr Tony Kilcoyne, a dentist from West Yorkshire, and the dentist letter to HM Government, can be easily read online at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/01/02/dental-crisis-leaves-britain-reliant-charity-developing-world/ but here is a reprint. We will feature scans of the Times leader article and the Op/Ed ‘Crowning Glory’ as our website blog (www.medicinemanstanbrock.com) soon.
Since these have come out there have been more related articles in other UK dailies which we’ll repost here when possible.
