“What did you hit me on the head for?” Louis said. He tried to frown, but it hurt too much. Plus it was hard to frown at someone taking care of him so tenderly. “I didn’t hit you on the head,” Harry said calmly, moving from Louis’s forehead to remove some bandages on his arm. “My friend Niall, the God of Death, hit you on the head.” “Well, why did Niall hit me on the head?” Louis asked. He noticed his lips hurt too, and felt a small gash on them. His arms were covered in scratches and cuts, and as he moved to sit up, he winced at a pain coming from his waist. “What the hell happened to me?” Harry sighed. “Niall… can get a bit… excited.” “Was he excited about hitting me on the head?” “No!” Harry said. “Niall just got away with himself.” “Does he do that often? Get away with himself, I mean?” Louis asked wryly. “Only when an idea gets stuck in his head that he can’t get out.”

For being the God of Death, Niall has a habit of acting on ideas without thinking them through. It's probably why Harry ends up with an unexpected but entirely welcome visitor in his bed the day after a Mount Olympus party.

Louis sighs as they turn back down Bond Street and past Gentleman Jackson’s boxing saloon. This isn’t how he envisioned life in London with Harry. He pictured them there, sparring properly, or drinking at the Castle Tavern. He pictured them at the theatre or betting on horses at Tattersall’s. He pictured them shooting and hunting. He pictured them fencing or getting admitted to the Four-Horse Club. But most of all, he simply pictured them together. He fully expected the ton to take note of a pair of Corinthians, but he had not been hoping it to be whilst dancing a Quadrille at Almack’s, trying to find a suitable bride for Harry. Lord help him when he starts appearing at every fashionable ball. The aristocratic mothers will be unbearable, shoving their daughters his way.

But he will do anything for Harry, so it will be what it will be.

Summary:

It was a gloomy, grey day in the highlands. The sun, try as it might, couldn’t manage to break through the clouds, painting land and sea alike in muted colours. Perhaps it wasn’t so desolate as all that, though it certainly seemed that way to Louis. Of course, his perception might have been coloured by his own foul mood. Everything seemed to have gone from bad to worse recently, and if his own problems weren’t enough now he had to pretend he didn’t want to throttle the chieftain of Clan Gunn, the one currently traipsing around the village and greeting clansmen as if he wasn’t just a glorified intruder. Louis narrowed his eyes as he watched Harry interact with Agnes and her young son, Harry stooping down to talk directly to the little boy. The Clan Gunn tartan, simple blocks of green and black, marked Harry as someone who clearly didn’t belong amongst them, and yet the people of Clan Sutherland always seemed delighted to see the man.

Traitors.

Louis is a young laird from Clan Sutherland and Harry the chieftain of Clan Gunn, and an alliance between their clans isn't enough to convince the two of them to get along.

“Louis,’ Harry says with a shudder and Louis doesn’t think his name has ever carried more weight.

This is the only man Louis ever thought about kissing for real.

“Oh,” Mrs. Padley says, clearly taken aback. “You two know each other?”

Last show: I'm watching Outlander on Netflix; I'm at the beginning of season 6 :-)

When I created this blog: 2023! I've come back from a long break. My original blog (then noellehenry and noellehenry-main) was created in early 2014.

Do I get asks/may you ask me something: Nope, never had many asks; my inbox is so peaceful and quiet :-)

Average hours of sleep: Ahum. Well, I sleep almost ten hours a day. Approximately eight hours at night. Two hours in the early afternoon: never recovered fully from two cases of pulmonary embolism, so fatigue has been part of my daily life since.

Instruments: I played electronic organ in my childhood- and teenage years; it was a very popular instrument in the 1970s/early 1980s. Never played again when I sold the organ in my early 20s. My (adult) son plays piano and he's so much better at playing than I am. I never missed playing much, not even when he was learning to play the piano. I never had the urge to play again.

What I’m wearing: I'm wearing me-made jeans, a me-made blouse and a me-made coat/cardigan in various shades of the colour petrol. I love to sew; it's my therapy, my happy place. I light scented candles, play my favourite Spotify playlists and sew :-) Most of my wardrobe is rather stylish. I don't wear hoodies or joggers; I never liked them.

Dream job: LOL! Well, I'm at the time in my life where I enjoy early retirement. I worked in tourism throughout my life and that has been a joy. If I'd have to choose now, I probably would have loved to become a stylist. It was not a job that existed in the early 1980s.

“I- I can’t move” the elder one finally croaked out, and with more distress Harry came to see that the vines had wrapped itself around the lad’s ankles. With a dumb nod Harry took a couple of steps forward. He could see Louis flinch with his sudden movement but he tried not to think about it. Instead, he lifted his hands, and tried his best to concentrate, hoping his power would listen to him just this once around the other man and untie him. Ever so slowly, the vines started to detach themselves from Louis’s calves, and soon enough, the man was free.

With shaking legs, Louis stood up from the position he was in, and suddenly the air around them got thicker.

“You’re- you’re a witch.” Louis hissed under the harsh wind, making Harry flinch at the accusation in his voice.

Even though there are ‘only’ 19 fics, which compared to other exchanges is almost nothing; we did add some extra historical HL fics to AO3′s database, together!
