Guest Housing at Yoruichi & Kūkaku’s
I’m still working on a comprehensive floorplan of the facility the two live in from 2011 onward, but I wanted a sense of what the guest apartments are like since at the very least Tatsuki, Karin, Ikumi, and Jackie (@obsidiennes) are living in them as of 2022, as is Ururu (@uraharashouten). So, a sort of general (ostensible) overview of one of the three residential layers is as follows:
Tumblr media
At least, this is true for the neighboring Block 1D. Block 1B is supposedly the same but isn’t actually, with half of these dorms (specifically those on the upper half of this diagram) instead being furnished as apartments, with 24 in total. I think I came up with a pretty decent layout given their sort of weird shape:
Tumblr media
Nominal floorspace is around 940 square feet (87.33 square meters), which would put it in the uppermost 10% for Tokyo. Storage is overwhelmingly concentrated in the 7 big double-door floor-to-ceiling wardrobes seen along the top in this example. Amenities include a Western-style kitchen with full-size refrigerator and oven (albeit no dishwasher), full-size washer and dryer, tub and two showers (there could be rainfall showerheads plus normal ones) and an ability to fit a king-size bed. (The TV for illustrative purposes here is 75″.) Also, unlike typical Japanese apartments, these would be very well soundproofed and generally oriented for privacy.
I’m sort of unsure how much of the furniture would come standard; probably all the major pieces with the assumption the space has been worked out, with whatever else one wants on top of that at their own expense. So probably no electronics. On the other hand, no charge for rent or utilities (power, water, internet).
I think Yoruichi and Kūkaku would generally have a preference for hosting other women, but not necessarily exclusively. I have to imagine Love, Hachigen, and Hiyori (muse-dependent) would’ve been extended invites to live there if they wanted to, considering where it was built.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in exploring housing situations for their muses in Karakura, this is a possibility besides being crammed down into the basement of the Shōten.

That way Hiyori convinces Shin to move in with him only for him to disappear and leave him an apartment with rent way more expensive than anything he can afford is fucked up. He keeps staying there bc even though he has terrible memories there he also has some good ones, and it’s still the only place he feels like he belongs. Some part of him is holding on to the hope that one day Hiyori will walk through the door like nothing ever happened. His parents have always subsidized his half of the rent, but when Hiyori disappeared he didn’t have the heart to mention it bc he knew his parents would tell him to get a cheaper apartment, and he can’t stand the thought of leaving that apartment, leaving the memory of his only friend, behind. So he bites the bullet and pays for the rest himself. Even if it means he won’t eat for days at a time, he can’t help but cling to the memory of only person that ever wanted to be near him.

The Three Gruesome Mysteries of Karakura Town
Welcome to my take of the “Buzzfeed Unsolved IchiRuki AU.” I hope I did it justice, because I love BU, and you know I love these dorks.
Hope you all like it!
You can also read it here.
Prompt: au of your choice!- Buzzfeed Unsolved AU
Summary: Ichigo tries to prove ghosts exist, meanwhile Rukia insists all evidence is the wind.
Video starts.
The scene: an abandoned building at downtown Karakura.
Two twenty-somethings, Kurosaki Ichigo and Kuchiki Rukia, stand outside, with their backs towards the building. Chad, their main cameraman, gives them a thumbs up. Ichigo takes a deep breath and then looks into the camera.
“This week on Bleach Unsolved we cover several cases and we visit some of the most haunted locations here in Karakura Town.” Ichigo explains while Rukia happily nods next to him. “In an effort to answer our ongoing question: Are ghosts real?” He asks while his partner vehemently shakes her head.
“What? Think they’re not real?” He tells her.
“Nope.” Rukia says simply. “In every case we’ve covered, there hasn’t been any compelling ghost evidence.”
“Well, today’s that about to change, since, for the first time in the show, we’re actually going to be investigating in the actual places.” Ichigo says. “Fasten your seatbelts, folks, ‘cause this is not a drill. Today we’re gonna prove ghosts are a thing!” He says excitedly.
“I’m pretty sure all we’re gonna hear is the wind.”
“Shut up! I swear to god ghosts are real!”
“You keep saying that, but I see no real reason for ghosts to exist.”
“No real reason? Rukia, our myths revolve around ghosts and demons and the supernatural!” Ichigo says gesturing around them. “They have to exist!”
She just shrugs. “You think that only because you think you saw a ghost.”
“I didn’t think I saw a ghost! I saw it!”
“It was probably a delusion.”
“I’m pretty sure it was a ghost.” He mutters angrily. “And I’m going to prove it in today’s episode!”
“Speaking of which, what are we doing here?” Rukia asks, looking around. “The building looks creepy, but that’s about it.”
Ichigo smirks. “Glad you ask. Today we’re here for our first gruesome mystery: the sad guitar incident.”
“The what now?”
“The sad guitar! Keep up!” He coughs. “Anyway, here’s how the story goes.” Ichigo changes his voice tone to a deeper, more mysterious tone. “On November 5, 1988, a strange thing occurred in an apartment building in downtown Karakura. In one of the empty apartments, a peculiar noise could be heard. It was the strums of a guitar. The neighbors filed a complaint to the landlord, who insisted nobody lived there. Since the door was locked as well as all windows, it was impossible to get inside. The landlord went in and checked the place without finding anything. However, days passed and eventually they became weeks, and the guitar playing could still be heard. It unnerved the neighbors.”
“Hold up.” Rukia says, interrupting him. “They were unnerved of a guitar?”
“Well, yeah. Imagine if you suddenly start hearing someone playing a guitar, but there’s no one in the apartment.” Ichigo says. “By the way, I forgot to mention it was always at the same time. 10 o’ clock pm.”
“It’s a lousy time to practice guitar, I’ll give you that.”
“That’s all you’re getting from the info?” He asks in disbelief.
“Well, yeah. Some people start getting ready to go to sleep at that time. Imagine if you have to get up at 5 the next day, but you can’t fall asleep because an asshole decided to play the guitar.” Ichigo wheezes. “Was the guitar playing good anyway?”
“It was described as a nostalgic tune. Hence the name ‘the sad guitar’.”
“So it wasn’t good at all?”
“Don’t think so.”
“Hah. Thought so.”
“As weeks passed by and the situation continued, the landlord started believing the building might be haunted.” Ichigo keeps retelling the events. “As it turns out, he had acquired the entire building at a low price eight years prior. He didn’t receive a lot of information about it, thinking everything was in order. Most tenants stayed, but there were unrented apartments. One of them was apartment number 25.”
“Ghost guitar apartment?”  Rukia asks.
“Ghost guitar apartment.”
“For the next eight years, the landlord, Ukitake Juushiro, would have trouble keeping that apartment rented. Each time someone came to live there, they would inexplicably leave shortly after.”
“How shortly after?”
“Six months to a year after having rented it.”
“Huh. Not that unheard of. But still…”
“Yeah. Around ten tenants went through that apartment, and when the guitar incident started happening, it had been empty for around two months.”
“Now I’m curious about the apartment.” Rukia says.
“Let’s take a look.”
Scene changes. Ichigo and Rukia get inside the building. There, they notice the empty hall. The walls look gray, the paint’s chipped, and there’s rumble littering the floor. The whole place is covered in cobwebs and dust. It seems that it was abandoned long ago.
“This place is a mess.” Ichigo mutters as they explore the place.
“How long has it been empty?” Rukia asks him as she flashes her flashlight in every corner.
“A decade.”
“Huh. Well, to me it looks like it’s been like fifty years in this state.”
“There’s a reason for that.” Ichigo starts explaining. “Eventually, Ukitake-san started digging in the records of the past tenants of that apartment. He found out that, in the early seventies, a twenty five year old man by the name of Hisagi Shuhei lived there. He was a struggling musician, who worked at a local bar. He often practiced in the apartment, to the discontentment of his neighbors. The instrument: a guitar.” He dramatically pauses to show a picture of Hisagi playing the guitar. “However, even if he was a promising musician, he wasn’t getting paid enough. His friends said he had been desperate to make more money, as he planned to woo and marry a waitress that worked at the same bar as he did.”
“Love problems. The downfall of most men in these stories.” Rukia comments.
“It’s always been the reason for most infortunes in history.”
“Like the reason I’m doing these videos in the first place.” She jokes, making Ichigo fume.
“Shut up.”
“As for Hisagi, soon he piled up a considerable debt, to the point the previous owner of the place, Tosen Kaname, told him he needed to leave the apartment in three days after he failed to pay the rent. On November of 1973, he played his guitar one last time before jumping from his fourth floor apartment. He didn’t survive the crash.”
They begin walking up the stairs to reach the four floor. As they pass, they see more rubble on the floor. The steps creak each time they walk on them. The place is dark to boot. They need to illuminate it with their flashlights.
“So, you’re saying the sad guitar is being played by a ghost?” Rukia asks as they ascend the stairs.
“It’s too much of a coincidence to have the previous tenant be a musician and then die, only for people to hear a guitar coming from that same apartment years later, on the same month he passed away, no less.” He answers her. “Right now, we’re going to the apartment to see if we can hear the guitar.”
Rukia rolls her eyes. “Yeah right, Ichigo. As if we’d suddenly hear the guitar.”
As in cue, they hear something as they walk up the stairs.
“What was that?” Ichigo asks, stopping dead on his tracks.
“It was nothing.” She dismisses it with a wave of his hand.
“No, no. I’m sure I heard something.”
There is a noise which almost sounds like guitar strums. But it is so low it can be barely heard through the video. Ichigo immediately starts running up the stairs left to reach the fourth floor.
“Where are you going?!” Rukia yells at him as he speeds up in front of her.
“That was the guitar! I need to reach the apartment to listen closely!”
They both run what is left of the way until they reach a floor which looks exactly the same as all the previous ones. There is a bit of a rustle coming from one of the apartments. Ichigo runs towards apartment 25, the camera strapped to his chest picking up more sounds.
“Aha!” He exclaims as he opens the door to reveal… absolutely nothing.
“Well, well, well.” Rukia says from behind him. “If it isn’t an open window!” She gestures to the sole window in the room, which, as she said, is opened. The wind makes the dirty curtain move and rustle, the cacophony of the room helping it create an echo. It does sound melodically. Almost like a song.
“Bu-but… I don’t understand.” Ichigo says dumbfounded. “I swear I heard the guitar!”
“It was just the wind.” His partner replies, shrugging.
“I hate it when you’re right.”
“Where are we now, Ichigo?” Rukia asks as both she and he stand outside another building at night.
“This is Karakura High School, and the setting of our next incident.”
“Karakura High? Didn’t you study here?” She asks, gesturing to the beige school behind them.
“That’s right. And I’m about to retell the most famous legend in here.”
“Oh, this will be fun.” Rukia replies, motioning to him to start speaking.
“For years and years, it has been said that exactly at 12 pm at night, in the girls’ restrooms located at the third floor, a voice can be heard coming from the third stall. It is said it’s the spirit of a girl by the name of Hiyori. If you go near her, she will insult you before slapping you in the face.”
“Slap you?” Rukia asks incredulously.
“Yeah. It’s as you heard.”
“Well this one sounds even more unbelievable than the other. Why would a ghost slap you?”
“For the record, a lot of our classmates held spiritual sessions here. A couple swear they got slapped after being called ‘baldies.’ Right, Chad?” The camera man grumbles in reply.
“But why would she slap you?” She repeats her question.
“That’s what we’re here to find out. We’re staying overnight to see if we can find her. At exactly 12, we’ll go to the stall to catch evidence.” Ichigo says.
“Man, this will be boring.”
They make their way inside the school. It looks like your average Japanese school. It has a lot of tree areas outside. The corridors are filled with classrooms, offices, restrooms and the like. They pass by the cafeteria, as Ichigo shows Rukia around.
“Does it look any different during daytime?” She asks him as they walk.
“Less creepy.” He says, shrugging. “It has many legends going on. A haunted classroom, moving chairs in the cafeteria, a ghost that peeks on the girls’ locker room. I just chose the one with more evidence for this video.”
“The ghost in the restroom has more evidence?” Rukia asks in disbelief.
“Hey! As I told before, there’ve been many eyewitnesses.”
“Sure, Ichigo.”
They finally approach a classroom on the third floor, right beside the girls’ restroom. They sit down on the ground, forming a small circle, their flashlights lighting up the room.
“Okay. Now’s time to actually tell the story.”
“Ooohhh. Storytelling time!” She exclaims.
“The story goes that there was a student by the name of Hiyori. She was mocked because she was poorer than the rest and couldn’t afford shoes. She mostly put on sandals when it was time to go home, and always got to school wearing those same sandals. However, a mean spirited group of girls once stole her sandals, so she had to go home barefoot. Here’s where the story gets muddy.”
“Muddy? I like that!”
“Some say she walked on the riverbank, where she got mugged and killed. Others say she was too ashamed to go back home, so she escaped and eventually got killed. Other stories are inconsequential. But, long story short, in all of them she dies.”
“This isn’t a fun story.”
“It’s not.” Ichigo clears his throat. “Anyway, the girls were in a club. Some stories say that it was the volleyball club, others don’t name it. The point’s that they were holding a spiritual session in this very room to scare the club’s new members. They asked for any spirit to materialize. Nothing happened right away, but, someone heard movement in the restrooms at exactly 12 pm. They dared one of the new girls to check it. She did it and then she screamed. She rushed out of the restroom as the others reached her. She claimed a girl with blonde pigtails had called her a ‘stupid baldy’ and slapped her with what felt like a sandal. They immediately knew it was Hiyori. Ever since, students have stayed overnight to have séances and the like. After that, if they hear movement in the restroom, they go to the third stall to see if there’s a ghost.”
“So that’s what we’re doing.” Rukia says. “Calling this dead girl to see if we can catch her on camera.”
“Or at least get slapped.”
“Or insulted.”
“You insult me enough.”
They both laugh. “Then why are you complaining?”
Rolling his eyes, Ichigo takes out a candle from his backpack. “So now we’re gonna hold a spiritual session. It’s exactly 11:50. Let’s see if in ten minutes we can call a ghost. Rukia, give me your hands.”
“Oh, Kurosaki-kun, so bold!” She says before grabbing his hands.
“Shut up. Anyway, here comes nothing. Spirits from beyond. We call to you to seek the truth. Tells us, is there a girl by the name of Hiyori here?”
Nothing happens.
“Nothing’s happening.” Rukia grumbles.
“Be quiet.” He tells her. “I’ll try again. Spirits, if you hear me, please tell us, is there a girl named Hiyori? Hiyori, are you here?”
They try this a couple more times to no avail. Rukia starts getting impatient, grumbling about ghosts not being real, while Ichigo starts getting frustrated. Exactly at 11:59, Ichigo tries one last time.
“Hiyori, are you here? Talk to us!”
They both hear a sound coming from the restroom next door, as if something was rustling.
“What was that?” Ichigo asks, suddenly alarmed. He stands up and looks around.
“It’s probably nothing.”
“No. It’s coming from the restroom. I’m sure.” He says before bolting out of the room. Rukia sighs just before having to follow him.
“Let’s see if Ichigo’ll finally find a ghost.”
Ichigo runs to the restroom and opens the third stall with a kick to the door to find… nothing. Rukia starts giggling uncontrollably behind him.
“Where’s your ghost, Ichigo?”
“No! What’s this? She was supposed to be here!” He says, gesturing to the door.
“I don’t see anything. But aren’t ghosts transparent.”
“Incorporeal. But that’s not the point!” Ichigo exclaims. “What was that sound if it wasn’t the ghost?!”
“Hey, look.” Rukia says, catching his attention. “The janitor left the window open. What you heard was probably the wind.”
“The wind?! Again?!”
“I’m convinced that’s all your ghost evidence.”
“I really hate you right now.”
“I love you too.”
“Well, we’re on our final location for this episode.” Ichigo says to the camera as he sits outside of a fountain. “The Karakura Mall.” He says, gesturing around him. Sure enough, he and Rukia are sitting on the fountain in the middle of a deserted mall. There’s rumble everywhere, and the entire place looks as if it had seen better days.
“What’s this place?” Rukia asks him.
“It’s the first mall we had in town. It was abandoned like 20 years ago.”
“Why?”
“Ah. That’s the thing and the reason we’re here.”
“Spooky.” Rukia says in a playful tone.
“It’s very spooky, actually.”
“Can’t wait for this one.” She says, winking at the camera.
“When the Karakura Mall was first built, it was supposed to be the highlight of the town. It was meant to attract tourists as well as bring in stores that didn’t exist here yet. It was a win-win situation for everyone involved. After it was finished, stores started opening, and the business went booming. That is, of course, until strange occurrences started happening.”
“What occurrences?” Rukia asks.
“They noticed that things weren’t in the same place they had left them during the night. First, it began with small things being moved around. Then, things were thrown to the floor. Sweaters and pants sprawled all over the place. Chairs missing. Spoons on the floor. Mannequins moving from place to place. Their initial thought was that there was a thief. The problem was that they found all the things which were missing eventually, and the cash registers were left alone. All money was there.”
“Then how did they go from a thief to a ghost? They’re very different.”
“As I was saying, because all stuff was there, and nobody stole the money from the registers.”
“It could’ve been a prank, though.” Rukia says.
“Well, here’s why they began thinking these incidents were supernatural. One very silent night, the guard was doing his rounds around the place, when he saw movement from a display window. Naturally, he approached it, thinking he had caught the person responsible. What he saw, however, wasn’t made by a human. He saw one of the mannequins from a store move its head to stare at him right before it fell to the ground with a thud.”
“Did that really happen, Ichigo?” She asks her partner. “It seems too far-fetched.”
“The guard swore by it then, and even in a recent interview for a local online magazine, he repeated the same thing. All the times he’s retold the story, the details have been the same.”
“Is he sane?”
“He didn’t imagine it. They found the mannequin on the floor the next morning.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. And other guards started hearing noises at night. They saw chairs from the food court moving around. It came to a point the people that worked here theorized the mall was built on a cursed place.”
“Is this why the mall got abandoned?”
“No. Back then, people weren’t too materialistic and they didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the stores here. The rumors of the poltergeist activity just made it so less people came. With no costumers, it closed down entirely. Eventually, the citizens’ way of leaving would change, and they opened a new mall in another place. Yet this building remained abandoned, only being frequented by the homeless, those doing illicit activities, and people trying to find the spirits that are said to be here.”
“So just like us.”
“Well now, to catch some evidence, I’ve brought this.” Ichigo says taking out a device from his pocket.
“What’s that?”
“It’s a spirit box. It’s a device which uses radio frequencies to help ghosts communicate.”
“That doesn’t sound very scientific.”
“Well, it is, and we’re going to try it now!”
The two move to one of the empty stores on the first floor. There’s a chair lying around and Ichigo sets the box there.
“Alright, ghosts, I’ll leave this device here, it’ll help you talk to us. So, when you’re ready, you can start saying something.” Ichigo turns it on and it starts making a lot of static noise. Rukia covers her ears.
“That’s really loud!” She exclaims.
Ichigo laughs. “Yeah. Should’ve warned you. Anyway, have a question for the ghosts?”
“What’s your name?” Rukia asks.
There’s nothing except for noise.
“Why are you here?” Ichigo tries now.
“Do you hate malls? Is that why you haunt this place?” Rukia tries again.
“Yes.” Comes from the spirit box. It is said in a voice which sounds deep and masculine.
“Holy shit!” Ichigo exclaims, taking a step back while Rukia laughs.
“Do you want to harm us?”
“Maybe… brown.” Comes from the EVP.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Both ask.
“Gerald.” It says.
“Is that your name? Gerald?” Ichigo asks.
“Potato… pie.”
“Potato pie?” Rukia asks and starts giggling. “What’s that? A new dish?”
“Okay. That’s enough.” Ichigo says as he turns it off.
“I gotta say, Ichigo, that was fun. Scientific? Eh.” She says, shaking her head and moving her hand. “Fun? Yes.”
“Ha, ha.” Ichigo says sarcastically. “Well, now let’s keep exploring.”
They walk around, laughing at discarded mannequins. They play with some of the stuff littering around the place. They decide to go upstairs, to see the other stores on the second floor. They pass by what seems to be an old video store. They’re looking around when Ichigo hears a whispering sound from the next door store.
“What was that?” He asks, turning around and squinting his eyes at the wall.
“Probably a raccoon.” Rukia says dismissively.
“No. Something’s not right.” Ichigo says and bolts to the store. He gets in to find… nothing. “Wait. What the hell was that?”
“I told you. Probably a raccoon, or a rat. Maybe a bird.” She says.
“It didn’t sound like that.”
Rukia shrugs and looks around before she starts laughing. “Hah! Found the source of the noise! There’s a hole on the roof. You probably heard the wind moving around rocks.”
“What?! No way!”
“Yes, the evidence is right here!”
In cue, Chad zooms in the hole, showing Rukia’s grin and Ichigo’s displeased expression.
“Fine. You win. For now.”
“I’ll take that.”
“Well, I guess we’ve seen enough.” Ichigo says.
“Yep. Let’s go.”
“These local buildings have been said to be haunted for years now. Although many people have heard and seen things, there’s no concrete evidence to say they are actually being haunted. The question of whether or not there are ghosts involved in these incidents here in Karakura will remain unsolved.”
What unsolved mystery do you want to see next?

「MAIN VERSE - PRE-GAME」
Tags: ;verse: main, ;headcanon
Type of verse: Open. Main verse unless requested otherwise. Multifandom (modern real world). Heavily headcanon based and prone to changes.
Setting: Before being kidnapped for the Death Game. Modern Japan.
Details:   There’s no need for an alias or a facade in this setup: Shin Tsukimi is as he is. Perhaps still a bit of a trickster and a liar, as his job (hacker) entails mostly deceiving and acting to some extend, but he’s definitely not a bad person or of ill-will to others―except for one particular individual, who is thankfully long dead: Sou Hiyori. Nothing is known about the kind of connection he has with the man, except for the fact that he (Sou) wanted to kill him (Shin).
But other than that small mystery, there’s not a lot else relevant to his personal information (yet). He holds a relatively normal life, lives in an rented apartment on his own (seeking independence from his foster family), and works as a self-employed hacker and programmer along with a few small part-time jobs he takes here and there. Might be somewhat of a NEET, if only because of his unhealthy eating habits and hermit tendencies.
Variations: Covers from his childhood up to his 21 years old, and right up to his kidnapping.

SHRINE
(AU) (MUSIC/ROMANCE/DRAMA) (Yatori) (Kazubisha) (Daifuku) (18+ due to language, mature subjects and a little smut)
Summary: With her earphones on and melodies filling her ears, the girl looked at the ceiling, thinking. She, Iki Hiyori, a regular schoolgirl, had jumped at the street to save the life of a promising rock star.
First of all I really want to apologize to everyone for taking so long to update! This few last weeks have become really busy -I really should stop saying yes to every project that comes knocking at the door, somehow I feel like I’m killing my own agenda – Therefore, I will try my best to keep updating as soon as possible but don’t be weirded out if I have to put my sleep schedule first, I really love you but my body refuses to cooperate sometimes! I know this winter came with really strong snowstorms so stay safe, kids. I love you all!
TRACK 10
AC/DC – Thunderstruck
“NO! this is… I’m definitely not accepting this!”
“B-but Tenjin-san! Hiyorin is perfect! Just look at her! – cried Kofuku, whose bright pink tailored suit gave an interesting contrast with the producer’s office, minimal, elegant, with black leather chairs.
“I can only see a young schoolgirl who has no idea what to even do with her own life!” Hiyori, sitting in front of his desk, lowered her face, ripped apart. “Iki-san, I thought you were a lot more reasonable for you to gather with this flock of imbeciles!”
“Tenjin-san! How can you even say that? We’ve taken the company to figure in the pop-rock sales top ten!” begged Kofuku, but immediately her voice shifted to a dry, business-like tone. “I thought you had said you were grateful with us for being able to sell in a market that had been so difficult to this label! You can check your numbers again, if you want to refresh your memory!”
“But my dear,” said Tenjin, trying to recover some of his cool, “that was during the time Viina still liked to sing with you guys”. Yukine catched movement with the corner of his eye and looked at Yato, who was intently looking at his shoes, brows furrowed, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, awkwardly. “It’s not possible, Kofuku-san, for you to think this young lady can take the place of someone like Viina and sing like her! Viina imposed you an energy and an image to the band that only a carefully picked up person will be able to give you back, not a sweet highschooler that evidently seems to avoid getting into trouble and taking her own decisions!”
“Hey, didn’t you heard the recording?” replied Daikoku, who put both hands in the shoulders of his partner, showing support. “Kofuku and all of us believe in this change because we heard her and we think it’s going to work!”
“Pft!” let out Tenjin, and Hiyori could not be more agree with the old man: she had heard the recording herself and she couldn’t believe how was it possible everybody else considered her fit for this. “Her voice is like cotton candy. She’s way too sweet for you guys. I’m not going to spend one more yen in a project that there’s no profit for.”
There was a knocking sound and the head of a beautiful girl with short hair entered through the door.
“Sir? Are you ready for your five-o’-clock appointment?”
“Ah, Mayu! Coming right up!”
Before excusing herself out, the girl and Yato traded stares, and both gave each other a hateful look. Mayu pulled one of her lower eyelids down and showed her tongue.
“Bleeeh! Asshole!” she whispered, before leaving.
Yato made the gesture of going after her but Yukine stopped him with an elbow to his ribs.
“Exgirlfriend?” wondered Hiyori, baffled. Daikoku scoffed.
“Natural born enemies. Yato forgot her name one day, called her “Tomone” for some reason, and since then they can’t stand each other. He still calls her like that, just to be annoying.”
“Oh…” muttered Hiyori, wondering why she had gotten that defensive.
Tenjin finished picking up his stuff, preparing to leave. Kofuku didn’t took the eyes off him.
“I hope you reconsider”, she said, unmoved. Tenjin only gave her a stern look and shifted the knot of his necktie, briefcase under the elbow.
“Now listen to me” said Yato, talking for the first time since they had entered the place, “Viina is clearly ancient history, and I know you think our music is good enough to give us a bit of credit and let us pick the singer we think is fine” Tenjin moved and faced Yato. The height difference was minimal, “why did you gave us this ultimatum, then?”
“I thought you would be mature enough to go and solve with her all the stupid stuff you did, not to go search for someone else’s life to ruin.”
Yato was at his limit, he felt the blood rushing through his fists, and he would have been about to snap and through a punch to that old uptight bastard’s cheek, if he hadn’t heard the voice of Hiyori raising up, doubtful.
“I ch-chose this myself!”
She had suddenly jolted up. Tenjin stared at her, questioning. Kofuku smiled and sighed.
“Actually they… they heard me and… they think I can do this!”
“Wouldn’t you prefer to continue with your normal life? Go out with your friends, enjoy your youth, do normal teenager things?” the producer insisted, fixing his stare on her. “You still have a lot of things to live, and if you do this you probably would never be able to return to your old life.”
“…I can do this.”
“You will have to face many things you wouldn’t normally have to, living the way you did until now.”
“I…”
“You will be under the spotlight of thousands, maybe millions of people, and you wouldn’t be able to react just the way you feel like.”
Hiyori lowered her face again.
“You heard her already, Tenjin. Don’t be nasty.” Yato warned. Tenjin turned again to him.
“I hope you know how to behave. The next deadline, I want you to give me something I can sell.”
Yato came even closer to him, with a defying attitude. Both noses were almost touching.
“I’m going to give you the best damn band of Japan.”
“I wish I could believe you, Yato.”
Tenjin left, leaving them all feeling the tension prickling on the skin. Kofuku plopped down on a couch next to the window, and Daikoku sat on the armrest, taking Kofuku’s little hand between their own.
“Tonight I’m going to need something stronger than a beer”, she muttered in dismay.
“Guys, I’m…” began Hiyori. Yato turned around, ceasing to look with rage the door who had just closed.
“We owe you a  big one, Hiyori” he spat.
“What?”
“Tell you the truth, I didn’t thought you’d talk, much less against Tenjin”.
One by one, they thanked her for it, and made her feel part of the band. Yukine stucked his hands on his pockets and turned his face away when he spoke.
“It was fine I guess…”
Hiyori smiled, flushing.
“So, ready for another rehearsal? We can go to my place, it’s the nearest…” said Yato. He was living at his basement again, a few days ago.
“Nah, I need to go to Suzuha’s…”
“Oh? What is up with you both, little brats?” chimed Kofuku, and Yukine immediately took an awful shade of red.
“W-w-we’rejustrehearsing!”
“Oh, right!” said Daikoku, remembering, “Your school’s talent festival is coming up… Don’t forget we want tickets!”
“It’s actually not that big of a deal…” the kid said, and walked to the door. “See you later tonight.”
“C’mon Hiyori, I’ll take you home then.” Offered Yato.
The girl wasn’t able to understand why Yato didn’t simply just left her at the station and left. She was not exactly uncomfortable with the silence imposing when they ran out of stupid subjects to speak about, but she didn’t liked to begin asking herself questions that she didn’t had any answer for; Yato’s past, Yukine’s attitude, things of that sorts. She looked at Yato, sitting at her left in the long seat along the wagon’s wall. He was using today his blue jersey, but on top of that, the cold had forced him to wear a gray cap and a long jacket. He had his head leant on the window and he seemed to be sleeping. Who was this dude, really?
“I know you have questions. Shoot’em already.”
Hiyori was startled and at the same time she flushed. Yato seemed to know all that happened through her mind and showed it at the strangest times. She couldn’t just simply remain silent, so she asked what was bugging her more lately.
“Do you really think Yukine hates me that much?” Yato widened his eyes, but didn’t moved an inch.
“People change over the years”, he began, Hiyori thinking he may have not heard quite well. “I thought Yukine would be one more showing a radical change after going through puberty, but funny enough he has been someone that time seems to not affect”. He finally looked at her. “Yuki has a very difficult character himself, and it’s way worse when he doesn’t know people. But don’t worry”, he said, when she broke the eye contact to stare at the wagon’s floor. “Once you get his trust, you’ll realize he’s just a big ol’ softy”.
How to get the trust of someone who was that difficult to get along with?
“He really means a lot to you, right?” Smiled Hiyori, watching the kind expression Yato was using at that moment.
“Well…” he stuttered, “I probably shouldn’t let something like this to leak on my end ‘cause probs it would be better if he told you himself, but actually Yukine’s something like my padawan.”
“Seriously?” questioned Hiyori, with wide open eyes.
“Why are you so surprised?”
“Well, it’s kind of hard to believe you can take care of yourself.”
“That car coming my way is completely out of this subject!”
“And your feeding habits, your clothing and your sleep schedule can’t get you an idea?”
“I pay my rent and I take good care of myself!”
“At some point!”
“What are you implying, kid?”
“Why are you calling me <<kid>>?!”
“You live with your parents and you’re stil on highschool! You can’t go around life thinking you can judge a responsible adult!”
“Responsible.”
The argument, of course, ended with Hiyori slapping on Yato’s arm, who laughed trying to hide the fact it really had hurt.
“What you mean with padawan?” Said the girl, when they finally got down the train and were walking home. Yato took a lot of time to answer. After long seconds of silence, which he used to ponder his words, he spoke.
“A few years ago, because reasons, we were sheltering ourselves in Daikoku’s family business; they’ve had that for ages. Is a little souvenir store in the outskirts of a park not that far from here, and the store is glued to a house in which we loitered a lot, Viina, Kofuku, and myself. We were just a little older than you.” Yato stopped to light a cigarette, and he let out a big cloud of smoke. “A winter day I was arriving there, walking slowly, like the useless piece of garbage I was, and I saw a brat trying to force open the cash register”. He smiled to that memory. “Nobody was outside, so he thought it was easy to just jump over the counter and try to force that thing open. He wasn’t counting on the fact I would catch him faster you can say <<rat>>.”
“Was that kid Yukine-kun?” asked Hiyori, concerned.
“Right. I took him inside with an arm bent behind his back and told Daikoku.”
“What did you guys did?” Yato took a few steps ahead, stopped in front of her and looked at her dead in the eyes. Hiyori felt a spark going down her spine.
“You should really begin to understand, at this point” Yato said, with a deep, calm voice, “that all of us have our own stories and our reasons to do things. That’s why we all had troubles of this sort, big or small” the strength of his words let her freezing. Was he implying that all of them had records? “Yukine was obviously not completely conscious.”
“And he was stealing to pay…” cried Hiyori.
“Precisely. He was completely idle, and many years after I wondered how it could be that he showed that dependence degree being so young; but I really didn’t knew until he told me, and I want to respect that” he said, continuing his way. Hiyori didn’t insist on knowing the background, but waited for Yato to keep talking. “We never called the cops. At first he behaved like an ungrateful brat and several times he tried stealing again and running away, but we never thought about turning him over. I took him living with me to my apartment back then, and I began teaching him music, until the others made me realize having a kid his age sheltered with me without his parents consent could get me into trouble, so I let Kofuku and Daikoku follow a procedure to keep his custody. Now they’re the legal tutors and Yukine lives there.”
“What about his parents?”
“That’s a part of the story you would have to get from him” Yato laughed. “It’s really rare when Yukine talks about them.”
Hiyori plopped on her bed with a hole in the stomach. Suddenly she realized how much her life was different to everybody else’s. Even Yukine seemed to had lived much more time than her at his short age. Much to her dismay, she also realized she was beginning to ask herself if it was okay to keep being around people that clearly had been involved in situations people regularly frowned upon. But overall, she was also able to notice, maybe a little late, what she meant before Yukine’s eyes: a spoiled kid, that barely had gotten to show her nose to the world, outside the pink cotton candy setting her mother had laid around her, lovingly. Somehow, she felt she owed Yukine an apology.
“Hiyori-chan, what happened with the club’s thing?”
“Isn’t the deadline near?”
“The deadline is next week” answered Hiyori, defeated, while picking up her stuff at the end of school day, during which she constantly remembered what Yato had said about Yukine recently. Her problems right now were the last thing she was worried about.
“And do you already know what you’re going to do?” asked Ami, closing her suitcase.
“To be honest, Ami-chan, I have not the slightest idea.”
Yama let out a big laugh.
“That’s an answer worth of me! Who are you and what did you do to Hiyori?”
Embarrassed, Hiyori put her hand in her forehead. “I’ve been really out there lately.”
“Maybe you just need to relax” figured Yama, who had not made any effort in putting her stuff away, and whose feet were high above the desk.
“Actually, I think relaxing is right now the last thing I need”, answered Hiyori, with a light laugh, and excused herself out when the bell rang, running down the hallways up to the main gate.
After a few stations and some streets, she found Yukine’s school.
She smiled sincerely with her ticket on hand, remembering the blonde’s face when she told him she wanted to buy the entrance to his school’s festival. He had been a comical mix of shyness, horror, and not being able to say no.
“Over here, Onee-chan” pointed the girl at the door, after cutting her ticket in two.
“Has the band contest started already?” asked Hiyori, smiling and a bit hurried.
“It starts on a few minutes, the auditorium is over there” the girl indicated a point straight across the main yard.
“Thanks!”
“Ah, Onee-chan!” yelled the girl again, “At the end of the festival we will do a raffle!”
Hiyori waved thanks with her hand and jogged searching for the auditorium. Going through the point the girl had pointed, several food stalls formed a path. Roasted squid, takoyaki, crepes, all of that delicious food popped to her eyes and stole her nose’s attention. Making an effort Hiyori continued down the way, and she had made it to the auditorium quicker if a quirky attire hadn’t gotten her attention. He was right in front a taiyaki stall.
“Hey, Hiyori! Have’cha tried the food already? It’s great! I just love all this junk they sell at festivals…” saying this, Yato put directly in her hand a warm little bread fish, that had an incredible smell. Hiyori looked at him directly in the eye. Yato was taking a vast selection of food between his arms.
“I assume you haven’t even looked at the time.”
“What’re you talking about?” he said, taking his cellphone out of one of his gray wool cardigan’s pocket. He looked at the screen. “Oh, shit!”
They both ran to the auditorium’s entrance, Yato surprised her arm was so thin he could place his entire hand around it, and Hiyori trying not to drop the taiyaki he gave her.
A big group was waiting outside, in a side entrance. The girl, even from afar, got a hint of the spark of joy Yukine’s face got lit with as soon as he saw them running; but it was quickly replaced with nuisance when he saw the ton of food Yato had purchased.
“You really couldn’t finish until the show was over?”
“Do you really wanted me to stay still and walk all the way down here on such a path without buying anything? Here, eat a Konnyaku!” Yato practically pushed a big gray squishy konnyaku chunks skewer to Yukine’s face, who took a step away.
“N-now stop it you idiot! Where is Daikoku and Kofuku?”
Yato was surprised.
“They’re not here yet? ‘thought those two were arriving first…”
Yukine’s phone began ringing. The boy picked up and after a few minutes of walking around while talking, he looked as down as the beginning.
“Daikoku says something came up with Kofuku at the office and they’re not gonna make it… it’ll be good if they could be here for a change…”
“THE ODEN STALL IS ABOUT TO OPEN!” announced a teacher in a megaphone, and Yato sprinted towards him.
“Could you even listen up you fucking idiot?!” after yelling, Yukine sighed and turned away, kicking gravel off his way.
“Yukine-kun?” called Hiyori, shyly. The teenager turned to her. “Break a leg!” she said, smiling. Yukine blushed, and looked down to his feet. He nodded, letting out a faint “Hm” and continued walking.
Entering the auditorium, instead of finding a seat, she stood by the door. It would be more convenient to stop Yato right there and tell him a couple of things than try to reach him from amidst the crowd. The lights went off, and the stage of Yukine’s middle school lighted with several lights of vivid shades and shapes. The amount of bands at that school only allowed for one song each. After a few numbers, Hiyori could hear the anxiety from the girls around her. On the stage’s speakers a voice raised and announced the name of the next band.
“Coming next, the official music club’s ensemble: Snowbell*!”
The roar of the girls next to her took Hiyori completely by surprise, until she remembered Yukine was in his usual life an actual celebrity. The hype of schoolgirls seeing him in a different band playing right before their eyes was completely understandable. Hiyori had only met Suzuha a few times herself, and she had though he was a kind and respectful young man. In that moment, she also realized Yukine and him really had a unique type of friendship. Their chemistry flooded the stage, and even surpassed the connection they had with the rest of the band members. Yukine held completely the structure of what Suzuha was doing on the guitar. The singer gave impressive jumps through all the stage and the drummer didn’t fell behind keeping the beat of a punk-rock song. Hiyori had her mouth open, impressed.
“They’re good, aren’t they?” said Yato, standing next to her. “You haven’t eaten your taiyaki.”
Coming back to the real world with a startled jump, Hiyori bit on her mushy anko filled fish, thoughtful.
“So this is the real Suzuha-kun.” She muttered. “They are amazing.”
“That’s their effort paying up.” Explained Yato, proudly. “I almost can’t believe this kid is the same brat I met years ago.”
“I get you.” Said Hiyori, swaying a bit to the beat, side to side. “They’re seriously great!”
Inside of the girl’s mind, slowly, a resolution so vague that could barely be put to words was beginning to form, but she know real well what was it about. If you could do this in the music club… and they were this good… could she improve?
“Hey, let’s go right there!” said Yato, taking her hand.
“But I haven’t finished my taiyaki yet!” she replied, trying to ignore the sudden jolt of electricity that went across her starting from the point where their hands were touching.
“Leave that!” he said, tossing it to a near trashcan and dragged her up the front,  right in front of the stage. The speakers loudness hit her ribs, the instruments sound slammed against her ears and she wasn’t able to even listen to her own thoughts. She looked at Yato, who smiled saying something she couldn’t manage to hear, and threw both hands to the air, moving his head. Swimming in the euphoria of the rest of the students, she also let herself go and imitated him. During a few moments she simply danced, forgetting everything, even from herself, and she only made it back to earth when the spark of joy of the boy’s amber eyes over the stage seemed to smile at her. The song ended, and Hiyori joined the roar of everybody else, clapping. She was not only clapping to the boys who just won the audience’s heart, but also to herself, since she had already found the solution she was so eagerly looking for.
Yukine joined them when the raffle was taking place. The night had already fallen and everybody were joining them at the light of the central yard’s stage.
“It’s really a shame Kofuku and Daikoku had missed this festival, Yukine-kun.” Hiyori praised him when she saw him jogging to them. “You were absolutely amazing.”
“T-thanks.” He said, sincerely, slipping one finger below his nose.
“Hey, don’t get too cocky, you brat.” Scoffed Yato. “Here, eat some squid.”
“Stop giving me food!”
“One of the winner tickets number is 90839!” Announced the school’s headmaster, which was doing the honor of conducting the raffle, officially giving the festival a closure.
Hiyori went pale.
Never, in all her life, she had won something. However, it was completely clear. In her entrance ticket, with red numbers, was printed “90839”. Yukine and Yato practically pushed her to the stage, where she waved her hand, shyly, accepting the price from the school’s headmaster’s hands. Yato’s yell was heard in the entire school.
“A CAPYPER!!”
“I can’t believe you gave your prize to this piece of idiot.” Commented Yukine later, seeing her off at the station.
“Well, see it this way: I don’t have to carry it all the way down to my house.”
“CA-PY-PEEEEER!”
“You’re right about that.” Said Yukine, doing no effort to conceal the disappointment he was aiming at Yato right then.
“THANKS HIYORIIIIIII!”
“Okay, see you guys later.” She answered, trying to ignore the blue eyed boy, hugging a humongous Capyper plush by the neck, crushing it as if he wanted to deflate his lungs from oxygen.
She laughed again when Yukine had to drag Yato through the station by the cardigan’s neck.
“Music?” said the headmaster, almost yelling. He lowered the request form and found an impatient Hiyori smiling, defiant.
“Yes, sensei.”
“That’s… unusual, Iki-san. I was thinking you might choose a more… academic club, so to speak.”
“Sir?”
“Anyways, take this to room 18 on the third floor. The main teacher is on a temporary sick leave but the substitute teacher should be there right now. He’s a very talented young man.”
The sunset light filtered through the building’s windows. Hiyori passed by the board she had looked weeks ago, searching for an answer to the dilemma of what club to pick. The music club flyer was written by hand, in a mature, professional and elegant way. She was almost completely sure this club was not going to be remotely similar to the one at Yukine’s school, but she didn’t care. Practice was practice, and if she could take her voice to a level in which she could listen to herself in a recording without being embarrassed to death, then she would take any help she could get.
She walked down almost desert hallways until she found room 18, on the third floor. The club’s room was strangely silent.
“Excuse me…” she muttered, popping her head inside.
“Ah, so you should be the new girl they were talking about a while ago!” said a youthful voice coming from the bottom of the room. Hiyori entered and turned on a white tungsten light who buzzed uncomfortably. A young guy was sitting behind a violoncello. Skillfully, he began playing it with soft movements of the bow.
“My name’s Iki…”
“Iki Hiyori, right?” He looked at her with an interested gaze, without leaving his spot. His brown eyes fixated on hers, keeping the eye contact like a padlock. “I’m the substitute teacher, Fujisaki Kouto.”
*SHRINE’s name is a joke I enjoyed a lot making, Snowbell is also another joke I thought about mixing both name’s kanji, Suzuha and Yukine’s.

Hiyori's POV
The various attempts and tries of positioning indicates our shared of inexperienced encounter regarding shower sex which is somewhat reassuring as we are each other's first in a very long time. The sensation of raw manhood and skin flapping against skin bring our intimacy to a new level of two becoming one, bites marks and visible heckys left on Hiro's neck, it soon follows by the jolt of delight and rhythmic thrusts I honestly could not get enough, wave after wave of bliss rip through my entire body after taking my time and rest upon Hiro's glorious form before we could catch our breath again.
The couple like breakfast and walk to work put us into teenage mode that neither of us would admit but clear as day in others eyes, smiling and giggling like an idiot with jealousy and applaud floating over me and the new hot boyfriend in my life, I nearly skip to my desk and glue the happiest grin on my face for the rest of the day.
A blushing shy Maiya is definitely new but as much as I'd love to tease the new pair of lovebirds cooking in my nest, I couldn't be happier for them both. My best friend with my baby sister, today is the best day ever.
Unfortunately, best doesn't last. The cycle of never ending shifts and overtime resumes pretty much the next day for two weeks before I could lay in bed for more than eight precious hours. Cutting two hour short from work, Maiya and I finally have some face to face time while Shun is away for a commercial overseas. "So.... how are you two? Wait, you guys are official, right?"
They sure do by the looks of it, much more authentic than Hiro and I ever will be. Is it still dating if you never see the other person? I don't even know if we can be called "seeing each other"? It's kind of ironic, isn't it? He is always going to be sucked into the vortex of patients and diagnosis as I am either in front of a screen or presenting to prestigious clients. We have no common ground and the thought of getting bored of each other sinks in faster than ever, once the chemistry die and we stop reacting like horny teenagers (which shouldn't be far off given how long it's been since we last met) there wouldn't be much left, the inevitable fact comes back to bite my ass- a loud and clear I TOLD YOU SO is internally screaming in my head. Next I know, tears are running on my cheeks and Maiya is freaking out as to whether they are happy tears for her or something has happened and I haven't told her.
Shun's POV
Life is good, I have never felt more alive, vibrant and positive. Not a day goes by I don't miss Maiya, everyday I would pray for work to be over so I'd pick her up at the hospital. Never mind the wait and delayed, sometimes cancellation at last minute due to her choice of career, I admire that. It takes tremendous dedication and will power to do what she does, I'm so proud to have a girl like her and the fact that she inspires me to be a better person.
Secretly browsing the internet at night and explores Peru like it's my favorite place to be, visa to apply, must dos and gos, apartment for rent and the possibility of me ever picking up a foreign language. The things I would do for my girl yet here I sit, imagining my future weeks with Maiya in a brand new land with adventures and challenges await.
"Hey silly question but I'm invited to your graduation, right?" Text sent and wishfully thinking she would walk through my door sooner than promised, it's another text that got me curious.
"Shaun, there are pictures of you and Maiya all over the internet! Are you two dating and didn't tell me? 😲😘"
Putting off a reply to Maiya's mother, it's a call from my agent that I'm reluctant to take as my fingers fiercely type in my name in the search/ bar to see photos of us in Osaka all over the internet.
Shit, this looks bad.

Maiya’s POV
Heart fluttering at the simple use of an expression and label I could somewhat get use to hearing; my head feels as if it’s going to spin off my shoulders and explode in the sky from what I’m both hearing and seeing. A collection of undoubtedly gorgeous and yet clueless women shooting back at me an assortment of glares which, if looks could kill – it’s an outright truth that right now I’d be dead.
Smirking with a peach hue beginning to burn across my cheeks; my heart goes from flutter to jump at the sight of the sticker photos slid into Shun’s wallet. Shaking my head as a soft chuckle escapes, I try not to over think that this whole day has been about… me – although I feel like I should, yet if I did, it would be like I transformed into a mini Hiyori and instead jump around to push that thought fast and strong out of my mind as I decide upon the haunted house before the fireworks start.
