What was your impression? Your experience tonight? Must have been so overwhelming seeing him live.

It was overwhelming for sure. So special seeing him on stage again and hearing him sing live. I love him and loved it and feel so lucky to have been able to go!

In a bit more detail:

It still feels a bit unreal to have actually seen him, his face, not on a screen, for the first time? I got to see him at KEY103 but I was seated far from the stage then. So this was different, standing. I am kicking myself for not queuing up a bit earlier, though. And lamenting being short.

I was counting down the minutes for his set, so you can imagine the feeling when he finally walked onto the stage. Like all the other artists, he launched right into the first song: Just Hold On!

I love JHO. I love his voice so much. I didn’t really think I would get to hear it live? I didn’t listen to the clip of the rehearsal ahead of time, so it was brand new. Not going to lie, I do love the EDM version, and the slowed down remixes, but this arrangement is cool and works well for that live sound. And it’s Louis singing, sounding amazing. So. Felt that sense of atmosphere in the crowd with everyone singing along with the ‘oh oh oh’ and just—that ‘the sun goes down and it comes back up’… he nails it every time, honestly. His voice!

Then… I was disappointed when Little Black Dress started up. I am not the biggest fan of that song, and while obviously I enjoyed it, because, again, it’s Louis singing and he sounds fantastic—I think he should have played Miss You, which is also uptempo, and his song? I wasn’t the only one disappointed either. Funnily enough, I heard two young men there with their girl friends singing it, one in the crowd behind me in one of the times between sets, and the other while in the queue outside.

But anyway, he is just a pleasure to watch on stage too? How he moves and uses his hands while he sings. At one point I let out an actual involuntary chuckle sort of gasp when he did that little kick he does? I don’t even know why. The tummy hand, and that thing he does with his hand, and the pointing into the crowd… All of it.

His talk with the audience was short—and sweet, as always. It felt a bit… shy in comparison to the other artists, if that makes sense? Like Lewis Capaldi was very confident self-deprecating humour, Zara Larsson had a sort of ‘crowd as her confidante’ kind of vibe. But Louis was just… Louis? Which, what else do you need? But it did feel a bit rushed.

And then Two of Us. I mean. His voice is so beautiful. And it was emotional. Would have been in any circumstances, but now… It was kind of this feeling of wanting to reach out to him, because of what the song means, and then also seeing him kind of breathless—it felt like a lot. He had no trouble reaching the notes, and he sounded absolutely amazing, but he did seem to have a few moments of losing his breath, in my opinion.

Which just made me sad, because it’s natural, considering—this was literally only his second time performing more than one song as a solo artist? And his first time on stage in seventeen months, since December 2017. Adding on to that the emotionally charged context… I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to sing ToU again now. It hasn’t even been two months. For that, only time can help. But he needs and wants more performances. There is one announced in September. What more between now and then? It just breaks my heart thinking of how long he has been kept from the stage, and how few opportunities to perform he has been given. He needs that practice as a solo artist, to develop and grow more comfortable on stage solo, just so he can enjoy himself more through gaining familiarity. And he deserves that rush he gets on stage, performing for an audience, singing his songs; and that sense of pride and contentment afterwards, knowing he did an amazing job. He deserves so much more of that.

It was a wonderful experience, and I feel very lucky to have been able to go. And also very thankful toward the people who have shared their footage, because my phone is absolute shit, and so am I at recording.

In all honesty, I am not the biggest fan of concerts, in general, but for Louis, all worth it. And I can’t imagine ever getting tired of hearing him sing, and seeing him on stage.

My Opinion:

I’m still confused as to why there’s been no Poptopia promo particularly since tickets go on sale this weekend. I am wondering when we’ll get the second single announcement.
