Reposted from @history_and_stories Heartbreaking story of a mother who became 'world's ugliest woman' to support her family In 1900's England, a mother-of-four took up the title of being "the ugliest woman in the world" to feed her children. Here's her story. She is Mary Ann Bevan who was known as the "ugliest woman in the world" but when you know her life you'll call her the "most beautiful person in the world." Marry Ann suffered from acromegaly due to which she had abnormal growth nd facial distortion. After the death of her husband, with no breadwinner in the house, accumulating debts and financial needs of her 4 children she decided to enter the humiliating contest and won the offensive title of "ugliest woman in the world" later she was hired by a circus, toured different cities where people came to laugh nd humiliate her. (Also follow @ww1_conflict , A page dedicated to world war 1 history. Please follow @5030remember , A great history page showing world history with daily timeline.) While disproportionate bodily features were noticeable, what people couldn't see was the pain she suffered because of this disorder, which came in forms of splitting migraines and muscle ache. She endured the ridicule of others in order to raise her children nd give them a better quality of life. She died in 1933. To this day, society judges people on their physical appearance, if our eyes could see souls instead of bodies, Mary Ann would have been the most beautiful woman in the world.💞 #acromegaly #beautifulgirls #beautifulheart #inspiring #womeninspiringwomen #womenempowerment #womenpower #victorianphotos #victorianera #victorian #vintagephotography #vintageaesthetic #vintagephotographs #vintagephotos #photooftheday #inspirational #historiareiss #historia #england #1900s #historyinpictures #historylove #historyphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/CW4uIkbt8Nj/?utm_medium=tumblr

🗺️ I've noticed that when people decide to visit/explore Bulgaria, they usually do it either from the East or from the West. But almost never from the middle of the country. ✈️ I find that normal. In the west you have the capital (Sofia) with good airport connections and on the east you have the seaside (we have a border with the Black Sea) where people often come to find sunny days and/or cheap alcohol. 🏚️ But the thing is that Bulgaria is not just Sofia, sea and mountains. Bulgaria is waterfalls, caves, monasteries, the food, the people... This picture is from North Central Bulgaria. It is taken in a city called Veliko Tarnovo and as you can see by the look of the street, it's quite old. Once upon a time this was the capital of the Bulgarian Empire. There's loads of history in the city and fascinating nature in the area (scroll down the feed to see some of the shots I took during my journey couple of weeks ago). I'm hoping soon to give you a nice little video of the area. . . . . . . . . . . . #bulgaria #tarnovo #velikotarnovo #velicotarnovo #bulgarians #bulgarianculture #bulgariahistory #bulgarianhistory #historian #history #historypictureoftheday #historygeek #historyshow #historyblogger #history_and_story #historybulgaria #travel #traveller #instabulgaria #insta_bulgaria #visitbulgaria #instatraveling #instatraveller #streetphotographer #urbanist #urban #streetphotography #bulgarianbloggers #bulgarianblogger #bulgarianvlogger (at Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoZ5FGvB7fK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12wuxja73fhe1

. history_and_story https://www.instagram.com/p/B9sRtaiBi7E/?igshid=2vd037wujvib

Indian Air Force Helicopter Unit 116 “The time when India had dancing elephant helicopters. The exact date is difficult to pinpoint. Some claim that the legend of India’s ‘dancing elephant helicopters’ started in 1977 when the first one of its kind took to the air. Others say that it began earlier. Whatever the case, these colorful adaptations, designed to display military might, industrial strength and the country’s cultural diversity, have entered popular folklore. But to find the origins of these so-called ‘flying elephants’, it is necessary to go back to 1969. In that year, India started building a licensed version of the popular French Aérospatiale Alouette III. It was manufactured by HAL and named Chetak – after a warhorse belonging to the 16th century King Maharana Pratap. The name meant devotion, bravery and resistance to occupation. The entire body of the aircraft was covered in richly decorated textiles, complete with four hollow ‘legs’, two massive ‘ears’, a pair of ‘tusks’, and a massive ‘trunk’. The aircraft created a furore in the crowd, and rightfully so. One of the national animals of India, and a powerful symbol of its might, the elephant was a spectacular sight to behold, even though all the dressed-up helicopter could do was fly slowly in a straight line. The ‘modification’ was done by one of IAF’s tailors by attaching pieces of fabric. Even the canopy was enclosed, leaving just narrow slits to see through, and the pilot would not dare to accelerate beyond 110 kilometers per hour (70 mph) for the fear of losing the decals and possibly damaging the machine.”
