Eric Forman (born March 18, 1960), as a teacher.
History doesn't repeat itself, but sometimes, it rhymes. Like his mother, with his heart on his sleeve, he wants to help others. Like he helped his friends, but he's a very hesitant leader. The glue that kept his crazy little world together, and he hopes to do the same for the next generation. All while referencing Star Wars and Spiderman, of course.
Eric: Did you know that the Galactic Empire was partially based on Nazi Germany?
The whole class groans.

Hi, Im gonna risk sending an ask even if you delete it but tbh Im interested in simple yes or no answer
Do you think there can be parallel between relationships of rogerray zolu and mishanks? It’s quite common in all of this fandoms to think they are similiar, kinda The history book on the shelf is always repeating itself situation. Strawhat guy and swordsman. Do you see this?
well, you're asking a question that's more interesting to me than just "don't you think [ship i don't ship] is great?" so i'll allow it. and anyway, i love history doesn't repeat itself but sometimes it rhymes things. one of my favorite things to do with multigenerational stories is look for those parallel characters and dynamics.
i think the roger-rayleigh/luffy-zoro parallels and the shanks-mihawk/luffy-zoro parallels are definitely worth thinking about, but it's harder for me to draw the same type of parallel between all three pairs.
see, the similarities between rr and lz are way more about the captain-and-first mate dynamic to me. (i straight up forgot rayleigh carried a sword, lmao, it isn't really his defining trait.) it's asking someone to join your crew without knowing a thing about him. it's devotion, it's loyalty, it's usually but not always understanding him and always following his lead regardless. it's being the relatively reasonable one who's not really reasonable at all. it's the dark king (aka hades) and the demonic ashura standing at the right hand of a man who's always smiling.
sm/lz is more about those strawhat-and-swordsman vibes, since so much of what we know about shanks and mihawk (and the shanks-mihawk dynamic) is inferred or implied through comparisons with luffy and zoro respectively. it's the sunshine/grumpy contrast. it's getting this quiet loner to open up to you in a way he won't to anyone else. it's telling this careless guy he's being an idiot because god forbid you actually tell him you're worried.

“ when you sing to them … i see — colors . ” anyone else would deem it a defect . he knows the scientists would have . would sonic think the same .ᐣ no … perhaps not .
@stygianark
“ Colors ... ? ”   Sonic repeats, softly bewildered .  Ear delicately flicking as he turns to face Shadow .   Shadow who, despite standing tall & remaining as poised as ever, is now looking way less intimidating than usual .  Sonic supposes a few things play into this ;  the Kocos, for an instance .  The tiny stone creatures gathering in a dozen or so & surrounding the darker hedgehog earnestly .   They hop, they chitter, their voices ring like bells, and sometimes they fall over & roll away from moving too fast when trying to follow their new favorite person .  And it's so adorable, how they've come to trust him & feel content & safe in his proximity so quickly .
Another thing, though, Shadow is ... transparent .  Shimmering silhouette of particles & pixels that dance and distort spontaneously, violating the hedgehog's image and contrasting the previous familiar still & ebony frame .  Now seemingly a hologram, so far from reach but still so nearby, ever present despite everything . (  And it's not like he's any less alluring, not to these staring green eyes, often overflowing with enamorment . )
Bell-like sound echoes by Sonic's side, drawing his attention to one Koco he's been holding in his arms for a while now, his audience of a singular spirit, sat down on a batch of green grass away from ancient architecture & looming towers .  It looks up at him with as much confusion as his stone-forged features could manage, perhaps thinking of Shadow's statement, perhaps simply affected by Sonic's own confusion .  Either way the hero smiles fondly, offering a head pat that he hopes could elevate spirit's worry, help ease its anxious, wandering mind .  Even while the digital corruption crawls and spreads upon the hand he extends, glaring neon & liveless pitch black against organic fur & body . It feels hungry, impatient, gnawing and biting as if it intends to pull him through planes even in pieces if it has to . The koco doesn't receive the friendly gesture well, in fact it lets out what Sonic recognizes as a frustrated noise before jumping out of reach and hopping away from affection .  And Sonic can only watch as it goes further away, separating itself from everyone else .
It certainly reminds Sonic of someone .
“ Colors ... ”   Sonic leans back, wonders out loud .  Color is what the world that flashes in his mind seems to lack the most .  A bleak & dreary history clipped into visions & embedded into glitches .  Sometimes he can see some of it while running through the islands, moments of tranquility & normalcy that the Ancients has lived despite all the odds and unhinged danger .  It's never crystal clear, just the ghostly shapes of children running, voices chattering by the rivers, figures building homes, others simply enjoying a field of flowers .  Their life is there, their love was there, too .  He's felt it everywhere, the tragedy has cut a hole deep in him, but in there it has found a treasure of melodies & rhymes, carefully tailored for the spirits .
“ That sounds amazing, does it ever disturb you ? ”   He asks rather merrily, he doesn't realize how long it has taken him to speak again .  It's just that he's been thinking, a few farfetched, illogical ideas that lack of scientific evidence .  It's just that he's been thinking, if he could put enough heart into a song, if he could write and strum harmonies together with enough precision & reverence -  could it paint a picture ?  Some sort of way to communicate this hollowing sadness for all that's been lost, some sort of way to show that it was beautiful & precious & worth fighting for .  It seemed important, in a way, even if only one person would see it .  In fact it's the comfort of that possibility that encourages the blue one to think of sharing such emotion to begin with .
If not Shadow, then who else ?

Last week, on an impulse after seeing a screenshot from the inimitable @girlballs, I reinstalled Destiny 2 and booted it up for the first time in, according to steam, just over four years.
I started playing the game originally on its release in 2017, in a previous trump presidency. I played it a lot, actually, all the way to october 26th, 2020. and here I am. playing again.
just in time for the second go round.
I don't think this means anything, necessarily. It's just somethin' that is. a little coincidence. happenstance.

Sometimes I think about the venti getting shot doodles I've never posted and it's like something something this world runs in a loop something something history rhymes but doesn't repeat and what a cruel fucking joke it would be for it this to be how he dies too
But then I also think about Venti who is the wind itself, who is not bound by human anatomy, who does not have a human heart. I think about him pulling out those arrows and turning to face the culprit, wind leaking out of the wound and face alight with fury because this is a cruel cruel joke indeed.

EMPTOBER DAY 30: Round
What goes around comes back around. That's what they always say, isn't it? They always come back around. That was why they were here, going back through the rift. Jimmy looked towards the one who started this all, a bit of a wistful smile on his face as he approached.
"So..." He cleared his throat. "Been some weird couple months, huh?"
"What?" Grian looked up, blinking in surprise, before nodding. "Oh- yeah.. it's been weird... it feels too short, and too long at the same time."
Jimmy laughed, rubbing the back of his neck and sighing. "Yeah... It almost makes ya think, doesn't it?"
"I try not to think about it, Tim." Grian muttered. "But... yeah.. it does."
"I get it.." Jimmy looked up at the portal, watching everyone else disappear through it one by one. "It's been one hell of a time.. How long's it been since Evo?"
"About four years...." A pause. "Void, it's only been four years. It feels like years away..."
"Funny how time works, isn't it..." Jimmy laughed to himself. "Those were the old days,, with Martyn, and Big B? And Pearl... and Netty- god, remember Netty?"
"And Taurtis.." Grian nodded along with him and looked down at the ground. "What do you think happened to everyone we didn't see... after Evo, I mean."
Jimmy paused. He looked uncomfortable for a moment, avoiding Grian's eyes that shifted back up to look at him. "I... I don't know if I want to know..."
"Me either.." Grian agreed. "I just miss them sometimes... Hell, I miss you sometimes.. Being on servers with you is actually kinda fun, I.. I missed it."
"Awww..." Jimmy laughed good-naturedly and ruffled up Grian's hair. "You'll see me again soon. Don't act like you'll never see me again..." He smiled, looking back up towards the portal. "I guess it's time to go home, though..."
"Yeah... I guess so.. I'll see you at the next death game, Tim."
"See ya around, pesky watcher."
"Annoying listener."
The two stayed put for a moment more, before Jimmy pulled Grian into a tight hug. Then they parted ways.
Jimmy tried to leave through the portal, but fell through it. He smiled, and laughed along with the other hermits watching. He sent a special look towards Grian, who sent a similar, almost rueful look towards him.
History doesn't repeat itself, it just often rhymes. Jimmy went through the portal properly, and the other hermits went back home.
Grian was alone in his basement again. He looked towards the book and quill at his desk and opened it again.
Third Life season 4 Plans, read the text at the top. The rest of it was mostly blank.
Grian smiled to himself as he put quill to paper. He'd better make this one good.
One to remember. The best one yet.

I just want to say that I'm so relieved to see your tags on this
I was so confused abt why ppl were idolizing ted k, an actual terrorist, b/c they zeroed in on "technology bad" and completely disregarded the rest of the stuff he's said
I wonder if they even hear themselves sometimes b/c the lack of nuance and awareness is scary. I do feel bad for ted for being subjected to mkultra, god knows I wouldn't have come out the same way either, but I feel like ppl should analyze the situation that led to the experiment and more importantly the outcome that ted chose, and maybe try to find out how to avoid a situation like that again.
It reminds me of the whole ted bundy situation tbh. history doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes, etc, etc
I swear that most people who meme about him have never actually read his manifesto: you can't call him a leftist when he himself blames leftist beliefs for everything wrong with the world. Just... Guys... In the first paragraph he says that women should be violently forced back into the kitchen and allowing them rights is bad. He says segregation is the best thing that happened to black people and calls them hypocrites for wanting to end it! He spends the whole manifesto ranting about how leftist and "technophiles" are controlling the banks and trying to destroy humanity to turn them into slaves. It's unhinged.

Sometimes, it doesn't repeat. But often, history rhymes with itself.
Holy crap
The four relics (and the entities within) are a compartmentalized recreation of the Blacksmith/Tree
They possess great knowledge
They offer choice
They "Destroy"
And from that destruction comes new raw materials to create

I’m realizing that as I debate giving Ruth a little girl in her post EG, no collapse, AU, that I’m basically paralleling her life to her mother’s. Cause she had a son with a bad partner, then found a better one when her son was a little older and had a daughter with them. Cause I don’t think Ruth would want to have another child without someone with her. And I think her second child would be on purpose.

nightwing secret files | nightwing 139
so in nightwing secret files and origins, there's a hurt/comfort storyline called "lost pages: teen titans." dick's robin and he's grieving for his parents and having a hard time, and he's gone off on his own, and wally comes and finds him. and then in nightwing 139, there's a hurt/comfort story where tim's robin, and he's grieving and he's gotten kidnapped and tempted into trying to resurrect his loved ones, and dick comes and finds him.
both of these comics are wonderful & i would now like to share my favorite parallels.

anyway i love these stories separately but i also love all the little ways they echo each other <333
#i really love post-crisis nightwing comics you guys#something something paying it forward#history doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme#dick grayson#tim drake#dick & tim#this is a little hard to articulate and obviously the storylines are very different but there's still something compelling to me here#both about dick and tim's similarities and about the role of friendship in their lives#one aspect of dick and tim's brotherhood that i like a lot is that in some ways in his relationship with tim#dick is often the kind of friend that his titans friends have been to him - and i find those parallels really moving#often he's got an instinct for the right thing to say or do because tim's dealing with things he's been through before#and he also ends up kinda low-key revisiting some of his own issues because tim has a bunch of the same ones#because their issues are so similar dick's attitude toward tim is sometimes kind of a proxy for his attitude toward his younger self#like in graduation day when he's being hard on tim in pretty much the exact ways he's hard on himself#and donna's pushing him to be more understanding but of course that's the precise thing that dick's bad at doing#because he doesn't know how to cut himself any slack ever about anything#which makes it doubly touching to me when he gets past that#because it's not just about extending grace to tim but also to himself#which is really hard because it's really hard for dick to forgive himself for anything#so it's the collision of his uncompromising attitude toward himself and his love for tim#and the love always wins in the end *cries*#parallels

In the 1980s, radical feminists pushed to outlaw pornography, hand in hand with the Christian right. History doesn't repeat itself but sometimes it rhymes. How'd it work out for you last time, ladies?
One need not weep for the original-flavour TERFs, whose intentions towards trans women, in particular, were always genocidal; Raymond, explicitly, said that her goal was for trans people to no longer exist. Yet, in 1979, that hatred was much less potent than it is today. TERFism was one pocket of a relatively powerless movement which did not have the reach nor backing of the broader right wing. Yet, as a pre-existing hate group “on the left,” TERFs were incredibly easy for fascists to infiltrate and absorb.
A 2020 article from Radix Journal, a far-right publication founded by the neo-Nazi Richard Spencer, lays out a strategy for doing just that. In the article, entitled “The TERF to Dissident Right Pipeline,” author Kat S. notes that TERFs’ insistence on “biological sex” as an immutable binary—all “men” depraved and violent, all “women” fragile victims—may make it easier to convince them of other biological hierarchies. Their insistence on seeing trans women as “violent men,” in particular, can be weaponized against men of colour and turned into overt white supremacy. “It doesn’t take any thinking woman long to see exactly which men are committing violent crime and the majority of partner violence, and race realism is a natural next step.”
Ultimately, the article reasons, it should be easy to convince TERFs that supporting the rights of “biological women” means rejecting “the mid-to-late 20th century Jewish-led feminist theory,” particularly the “corporate slavery” of work outside the home, in favour of accepting their biologically ordained role as wives and mothers. “A pro family, pro natalist movement requires some degree of female participation,” Kat S. writes, “and reframing the patriarchy paradigm is essential.” Ultimately, TERFs must be led to see patriarchy as “a system where men’s urges and strengths are allowed to flourish and channeled into healthy outlets, and women are protected and respected for their material reality and the gifts our unique biology affords.”
It’s a grim irony that, by insisting on a “feminism” without any trans women in it, TERFs have wound up constructing the tool by which fascists aim to destroy feminism altogether.
