I'm in the mood for beloved horrible men doing horrible things and I've been thinking, could you elaborate on what you said about how Impactor is not someone who would rape for pleasure but he WOULD as a means of control?

I'M SURPRISED THAT IT'S NOT A MORE POPULAR READ TBH. Like why does this fandom want this fuck to have such things as A Good Time and Ability To Enjoy Himself. Impactor is so shameless, so cruel, and he doesn't even have the temerity to enjoy himself, he's not even a sadist, he's just a joyless causer of misery and a plague on the lives of everyone he meets.

I think for me what it comes down to is that rape is about power, ultimately. Sexually violent characters who I could see doing it for the pleasure are ultimately also doing it because they're reveling in the power to extract that pleasure from someone else. But Impactor is just so joyless and miserable when he isn't riding an adrenaline high... that's just not him, to me. It doesn't parse, I don't think he really cares that he has power and authority to wield over other people. He treats the Wreckers with the same instrumentality he treats himself with.

So sexual violence would be no different as a tool of violence than, say, kicking someone's shit in. It's just as violent and painful as a beating, and just as humiliating and violating as torture. It would be a very useful tool to be able to pull out to threaten people with just for those qualities, and I think that's where utility for Impactor would be. Because the other aspect of it is the intimacy -- but that's not a game Impactor is willing to play, just based on the fact that he regularly gets mad at his friends for knowing how he feels.

Impactor might not be a literal walking corpse in IDW'05 but in spirit, I think that's what he is. It's all ash, to him, there's nothing worth selfishly chasing or trying to possess or achieve that could really mean anything. Nothing short of literally fighting for his life does it for him, so the usual narratives about other people existing to please him creating entitlement just don't make sense to me.

The point where someone can no longer threaten his life is, I think, the point he loses all reason to interact with them, unless having power over that person will somehow bring him closer to a new fight with someone who could actually kill him. The point of fear tactics is to find the people whose fight-or-flight is biased towards fight, and to be hated. But I don't think any kind of dominance over any specific individual just does anything for Impactor, because almost nothing does anything for him, anymore.

many people were confused about some of my previous posts, so for the sake of clarity i am condensing everything! tumblr has extremely transphobic moderation practices, often flagging completely innocent posts as explicit, solely for containing trans women in them or mentioning transgenderism. while letting untagged porn in sfw tags (ive literally seen porn tagged as "sfw agere") and blatent hatespeech, especially twards trans people (just look at the "gender critical" tag) go completely unchecked recently the CEO of tumblr had a big public hissyfit about people (rightfully) calling him transmysogenistic, going into random trans womens dms to harrass them, and saying that predstrogen saying she "hopes he explodes with hammers and then explodes again and hammers fly everywhere" is a death threat and saying he is calling the FBI on her (repeatedly misgendering her and calling her "it") and many bloggers, apon speaking out about it or even making harmless jokes (one trans woman posted a picture of a car and a hammer with the caption "reblog to scare matt" and got nuked for it) and many are very very angry (rightfully) about this whole affair and tumblr in general. if you would like to look into it i reccomend scrolling the "predstrogen" tag as she is the case most people are talking about at the moment. So, what can we do? this is clearly an ongoing issue, and, dispite having lost a lawsuit about their transphobic moderation in the past (see : https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21274288-tumblr-nycchr-settlement) its clearly not gonna stop with just user complaints, as staff members are perfectly content to just go scorched earth on users who even so much as lightly poke fun at them well if you want to help you should contact the human rights commision (i will give clear details further down) ! you dont have to be in the US, nor be an adult to file, and it only takes a few minutes. this is the best and most effective method to fix this, because it hits tumblr where it hurts. human rights acencies have a lot of legal and financial power and tumblr CAN NOT just ignore them, and given that this will be the seccond time this is happening, the commisions shouldnt be playing nice anymore eaither. its really important that AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FILE, and with different examples! while maybe your case might not be enough to prop up a lawsuit on its own, we need to prove a general trend. so every little bit counts! to respond to another question abt this ive gotten, as for what exactly to report, you should a) write about an act of discrimination youve recieved on tumblr that was eaither administered by a staff member OR that staff refused to give adequate moderation action in for example : a terf posted some blatent hatespeech targeted twards you, and you reported them, and staff looked at the issue and refused to persecute it. example 2 : you were unfairly flagged, deleted, or otherwise punished by a staff member and you are queer ( AND the post they banned you for has some kind of tie to your gender, ex : a sfw transition progress photo ) OR b) if you have not personally recieved something like that, please look for other peoples stories (THEY SHOULDNT BE HARD TO FIND, within the last couple of hours trans people have been being banned LEFT AND RIGHT for trying to speak on this. i would reccomend checking some of the tags related to what happened with predstrogen) and you should describe that incident as best as possible (be sure to disclose that you are speaking for someone else, ideally you should tell the story of someone you know, if possible.) you can also mention any reports you have made twards people posting blatent hatespeech that, opon reveiwing tumblr refused to prosecute dispite it being very obviously against terms of service. just so nobody gets confused about the filing process, im laying it out in more plain languadge!!

first you should email the SF HRC (san francisco human rights commision), at hrc.info@sfgov.org and say something along these lines :

I saw some hotd spoilers on TikTok and while I would normally feel ashamed for watching them, this show is such a fucking dumpster fire that I simply do not care anymore. With that being said, here are my thoughts. Out of respect, I will not post commentary in my tags.

-) Aemond telling Helaena to saddle up only for her to tell him to kindly fucking fuck off and coldly predict his future where he will die alone.

"B-but Helaena loves her brother!"

Correction. Loved. She loved Aemond until he killed Lucerys which set off a chain of events that got her own son killed in retaliation. I'm sorry, but if my asshole brother told me to fight for him after his decisions led to the gruesome death of one of my babies, I would spit in his face for the audacity.

"Will you burn me as you did Aegon?"

"That is a lie."

Helaena was done playing around. No riddles. No musings. She was grieving and angry and lashing out at the jackass responsible. Helaena refuses to fight a losing battle and plus, she no longer trusts Aemond so why the fuck would she ride beside an emotional time bomb with a geriatric dragon that refuses to listen to him?

Phia was SERVING in this episode and knowing what I know about Helaena and her ending, I'm praying we'll see more of her. Daemon's final vision in Harrenhal bore some fruit as I got to see a haunting glimpse of Daenerys and her dragons...Night King looked like a leathery Halloween costume from a general store...not my cup of tea.

-) Aemond throwing a hissyfit and putting his disgusting hands on Helaena to force her to burn Harrenhal with him was nothing new to me. You've seen how he treats members of his family...Helaena and Alicent are no different. Also, imagine being raised for YEARS to hate your sister and being trained to fight her only for your mom, the one responsible for your upbringing, deciding to throw in the towel and sue for peace. Yeah, I don't blame Aemond for feeling betrayed by Alicent who RAISED HIM TO HATE HIS SISTER.

-) That scene with Alicent and Rhaenyra...I'm sorry, but that was total bullshit and out of character. The fact that Rhaenyra was written out to be the disgruntled spouse listening to her wife's apologies was ridiculous. Rhaenicents will count this as a win, but to me, it's poorly written-fanfiction. Even when Alicent was "apologizing" and "baring her soul" to Rhaenyra she still justified her bullshit (go figure). Now, NOW, after humiliating Rhaenyra at her wedding, allowing a murderer to walk free, plotting against her, and TORTURING HER FOR YEARS, SHE WANTS TO RUN AWAY FROM IT ALL?? Lady, you sealed your family's fate the moment you wore that green dress. Alicent wants to flee from the problems that SHE created and I was fucking GOBSMACKED that she practically betrays her "favorite son" in favor of opening up the city to Rhaenyra without bloodshed. Kudos to Rhaenyra for sticking to her guns to cut off Aegon's head. I know anti-Rhaenyra stans will screech that this is proof she was always going to kill him and refuse to believe that Rhaenyra, having lost a son and a daughter, wants vengeance for her dead children...honestly, what do y'all expect??

-) I half-expected Aemond to fly over to Dragonstone, bend the knee to his sister, and hug it out. Y'know...like in every fix-it fanfic ever where Rhaenyra forgives those usurping murderous cunts and strives to be a better sister because it's all her fault that her siblings are SAD and not pure, sweet Alicent's fault for turning them against her in the first place.

-) We finally see Sheepstealer, but no scene of Rhaena claiming him and flying in the skies. Seriously, what the fuck? We get a pointless scene of Alicent treating with Rhaenyra on Dragonstone, but nothing for Rhaena? I swear, the writers add in these pointless scenes to avoid anything to do with the twins. No, we just see her staring bug-eyed at Sheepstealer while Hugh gets extra screen time with Vermithor.

-) I'd say the only scenes that stood out to me were Daemon bending the knee to Rhaenyra, Helaena's predictions, and Team Black gearing up for war.

-) Anyway, this episode was insane and not in a good way. The Rhaenicent agenda and the constant need to portray Alicent as this misunderstood angel who just wants her best friend back are dragging this show through the mud.

i went and read through all the scorecards and commentary you’ve written so far, and i just have to comment that i think you’ll have a much better time rewatching twelve’s era - it’s got its own problems, of course, but it’s such a breath of fresh air. i think m*ffat actually took some of people’s biggest criticisms of s5-7 to heart - the hamfisted sexiness is toned way down, and he did away with the whole “the doctor is the center of the universe and the most specialest guy ever” angle almost entirely. honestly, i almost have a hard time believing both eras were written by the same person.

I acknowledge I tend to write m*ffat (mainly because im not trying to put stuff in tags to be a buzzkill but also as a joke about censoring him), but I do think he got... better

in the sense that he was overall less sexist and more character-driven later on and seems to have really run with a lot of what people wanted set up in terms of genderbending Timelords and queer lead characters, although I am finding s6 has some really good stuff... not.... his episodes so much lol...... but I'm liking it more than s5 which runs contrary with my assumptions/memory of his era, which is pleasantly surprising

I don't think he's egregious in the way writers like, say, Joss Whedon were, I've not heard stories of him being an asshole on set (except for that one story about him throwing a hissyfit about not getting the horse through the mirror in GitF back in s2), which may just be me missing stuff, so can let me know, BUT... nothing I know of. and while he's said some... Highly Dubious Shit About Women Especially and also asexuality, I genuinely think he's been working on some of those biases and fucking nonsense

we went from the Doctor kissing a lesbian without her consent to Bill Potts (who has some flaws -- the fat joke I've been seeing mentioned on Tumbls, the somewhat off-centre flirtation with the one-night stand she doesn't get to have that seems more like it comes from girl-on-girl porn than like a way lesbians might speak with one another)

from writing Rants about the dullness of asexuality that assumed a cis- and heteronormative perspective of the Doctor (he's a bloke of course he'd want to have sex was a lot of the Vibes of it) to in a "confused but got some of the spirit" writing about how the Doctor wouldn't understand human definitions of sexuality and monogamous relationship structures (there's a post about that somewhere in the depths of my blog @fabiansociety made some excellent points)

from describing the original first casting for Amy as "wee and dumpy" to... well, actually can we have some clarification there sir, also the shit you said about Karen Gillen basically just being cast because she was hot (I'm not saying I am super Yay Moffat after all), but at least toning down the sexy sexy talk on the show from what you say!

also maybe a smallish thing, and idk how much power he had and and and, buuut I appreciate how he went from the way he talked in GiTF about how Reinette was "worthy" of the Doctor because she was cultured and educated and whatnot... when Rose is literally the companion of the season and semi-textually Created Ten (regardless of youknow, reads of the relationship and all that, definitely important to the narrative and the Doctor), to having Rose appear as The Bad Wolf in the 50th anniversary special... haunting the naaarrative baybey

and I remember feeling like "Missy" when introduced was just a rehash of River Song rehash of Irene Adler (or whatever way around those characters existed) but then Gomez is actually amazing as The Master, to the point that she's the Number One thing I remember from that era of the show

and he's not an asshole about trans people, which, low bar perhaps, but not in this flipping country, especially not saying so out loud, which, like... Doctor Who is a big deal in this country and RTD is obviously a big ol' queer who's been yelling from the rooftops from Day One, but to not just have it be him, to have a cultural institution firmly in our corner, it's good feeling-wise, and Moffat is a part of that too

AND I think generally and hope that RTD2 is going to be about heralding in the next gen of creators, including perhaps... a future showrunner who didn't grow up when Classic!Who was in its infancy (I don't mean that as a diss, I just mean that we've had three of those showrunners so far), and perchance isn't a cis man, because I think a lot of cool shit that could have been better might have been if moffat wasn't learning the ABC's of third wave feminism at the same time

Whew it was a wild week. Saw tons of family, spent a lot of time on the beach and drinking local wine.

Other than both seasons of the Uncanny Counter (which I just binged with my family instead of watching my shows--it was great btw, so much found family feels!--I came by this amount of tv watching honestly), I've managed to finish:

Stay Still (I liked this short series, though it fell into the evil female trope, and was tragedy-coded, it was also well done and ended happier than I expected)

Stay By My Side (cute but messy);

Jun & Jun (kind of ditto? Too many dropped threads);

Wedding Plan (really turned around for me; it's not my favourite series but Nuea is one of my favourite characters and Lom's apology worked for me. I still don't love him but I'm much happier with a main character who lies to others to be able to stay with his partner than lying to his partner so he won't leave);

Laws of Attraction (!!!! I got almost everything I could have wanted. More Nawin being allergic to shirts, more Rose & Maya, more unhinged Charn being too smart for his own good, Thaentai literally hissyfitting his way out of getting kidnapped/banished to the States, ridiculously in love photoshoots, a baller speech about marriage equality, a puppy pile of my favourite queers, supportive grandma...and if I couldn't get the only thing I asked for [Nawin, Maya and Rose in the same room] then I'm happy to have gotten Nawin thinking about being in the same room and crying about it as second best)

The Star S2 (did anyone else watch this? It was.... something lol)

Now that I'm in my gloriously empty apartment, I am catching up on the shows that haven't finished yet! Prioritizing Only Friends, Hidden Agenda, Dangerous Romance, My Personal Weatherman, and I Feel You Linger in the Air since I think those are what most folks are writing about these days, and then I'll start reading posts again. This week is also nuts because a really close friend has two (2!!!) debuts at the Toronto International Film Festival this year (and I'm so proud of her) and will be going to screenings of both, so I'll be easing back in lol but looking forward to reading what y'all wrote this past week!

I'm just gonna say it and I will probably get some flack but whatever:

TROP just keeps getting better, and I rewatched the first episode last night having gotten over my silm loving hissyfit in the beginning and it's definitely not the worst pilot I've seen and honestly pretty far up there.

While Some Liberties Have Been Taken, there aren't many and none so far have violated the spirit of lotr or whatever. The show itself has a theme that's carrying through, a love for its main characters that still allows the show to acknowledge their mistakes/flaws, and honestly it's beautiful. The costume outrage is pretty unfounded, idk where they found those stills.

AND it's thus far been better about tactics and strategy than like 90% of the fantasy shows that like to show A Giant Battle per episode. The elves sometimes look very stylized-fighty but come on. They're elves.

Anyway yeah. Legitimately blocking all the negativity in the tag these days, if I'm not allowed to post reasonable book critique I don't see why I should have to put up with people making shit up to criticize.

The last thing we want to do is ask emotional labor if any of you, but damn I kinda just wanna ask something if it ain't too bad.

Now that I'm finally typing this I don't even know how to say it. It's been on my mind for months. Especially after the slime spam started.

The majority of us who are actively, like, wanting to interact with the world happen to have fictional or factual counterparts, so being wildly ourselves is always a awkward challenge in feeling allowed to say the least. I notice it a lot, we want to be able to joke and laugh and be proudly the clusterfuck we are. Make silly profiles, collect identities, and reblog ourselves and likes a lot but there's like this damn wall in the way.

Doesn't seem to mater we know it's a bullshit wall. Past experiences dealing with shit like the Yandere Bitch Club is hard to go back to innocent fun from even after all this time.

We keep making new blogs, we keep trying, but that wall won't go away.

How do your mindsets I guess work to be able to say fuck it and just have a blast and reblog and say each other by your names and not care? I wanna, and I know others do to, just wanna join you all in the fun and maybe become friends one day and just @ each other in things people like and send asks all the lot. It's all we ever wanted to get back to with people.

Our general advice in this situation, just speaking from personal experience, is to start smaller and get bigger and bigger interactions as time goes on! I know that sounds cheesy and Raphael is also saying that is cheesy, and I think Deulara is rolling their eyes, etc etc etc. but I don't think they can deny this is what helped us, either, ortherwise I would have gotten a more legitimate interjection by now. c:

So like, for us we started off with maybe reblogging random fanart of ourselves or if not ourselves but a fandom we're in or would like to be in. And then after that would hide stiff in the tags signing our names off. And after that we started signing off on our posts and comments weather we made them ourselves or if we're commenting on someone else's thing. We don't think most of us are quite ready to engage in fandom in the way of writing fic, doing our own fanart, or anything like that and many of us go at paces slower or faster than this too. For example:

I do not believe I have gotten to the point of signing my name off of my own comments for reblogs yet when I see Vanilla (World's End Club) fan art simply because I think it would be too weird for me and because I'm worried about potential anti-endogenics/ableists, for example, but both are technically easily taken care of with a block on the end of just one party.

There's a few of us who sign off with emoji or use emojis when talking or engaging with the online world for their sanity -- we're on laptop at the moment but to vaguely summarize the ones I remember -- (beach), (sailboat), (vampire), (shining star), and (blue circle) all stand for someone who uses the blog or did use the blog regularly in our system.

Someone in our system literally introduced themselves as [REDACTED] or [NAME REDACTED] until further notice. It's quite on the nose but can only be done a few times before it's difficult to track.

We also actively seek out blogs that are friendly to our existence and are loud about it and request content for fandoms we are in, weather we have an Xive or not for that thing, and sometimes we do it on anon and sometimes we do not. We implied this earlier but we also use the block button liberally and generally expect other individuals to do the same instead of throwing a hissyfit in our inbox or messages.

And while not all blogs tag (we do not currently tag, for example, although we do plan to start at some point in time and go through all of our posts accordingly) using the tags and post filers has still helped us a ton. And, as an additional tip, this is for desktop/laptop website only but we fell in love with Xkit the moment we started using it, Jade Leech 1.0 had become distressed about a particular post but we loved a specific blog otherwise, and the post in question was not technically "wrong" or "bad" in any way, it was just...dysphoria-inducing because of the headcanon. So we used Xkit to mute/block that post and that post only and now we have a dysphoria-free Jade Leech.

Do you have a favorite Mike Cary!Rogueneto moment?

I think so? It's hard to decide because each interaction was at a different evolving stage of their relationship.

The first interactions they had in X-Men Legacy #231. They were on their way to Muir Island to find Destiny after Selene revived her during Necrosha.

It was a nice surprise in that, someone remembered Rogueneto, and that now Magneto was the one attempting to connect with Rogue romantically when in the past she was the romantic pursuer in their relationship. The flirtatious nature of Magneto mixed with his hybrid sarcasm/sincerity was fun to read.

2. X-Men Legacy #239. Rogue and a group of X-kids accompany Indra back home to Mumbai as his elder brother has a medical emergency. Magneto tags along because he felt a disturbance in the force fluctuations in the E.M. Field over Mumbai. The have a run-in with a mysterious girl and the Children of the Vault.

I loved this scene because it showed Magneto still relying on his way of solving problems, but allowed Rogue to show she's not a pushover. That she's willing to fight for a suspicious stranger she just met because the girl is in trouble. It also shows that Rogue has moved on from recklessly using her powers to take from others and she's on a different path. I think Magneto got a pleasant shock (look at that smirk) from Rogue's assertion to do things her way. He backed down quickly and became amicable again.

3. X-Men Legacy #223. After the events of Messiah Complex and having a billion minds stuck in her own and then removed, Rogue took a sabbatical from the X-Men to find a way to control her powers for good. Traveling to the old Outback base, Rogue is caught in the new sentient Danger(room) revenge plot against Charles Xavier.

This wasn't the real flesh & blood Magneto but a fragment of his psyche. I loved that up until this point, Rogue has been running at Danger's pace trying to find a way to best her. But once the Savage Land Magneto shows up he drops the first real substantial clue about Rogue’s inability to control her powers. In a way, Danger's version of Rogue’s version of Magneto acted as a guide to what Rogue needed to know and what she needed to discover for herself.

4. X-Men Legacy #260. Schism has broken the X-Men into two camps. Those actively fighting for their current survival and those fighting for the new generations right to choose their own future. Rogue has been carefully weighing her choices and wrapping up loose ends.

This scene left me gobsmacked when it first came out. Obviously for the snu-snu and playful banter, but also for proving, again, how healthy and normal Rogueneto are together. They are both adults and have to make their own decisions about their futures, but the assurance from Magneto that distance wouldn't matter to him and it wouldn't change his feelings for Rogue even if they were not physically in the same space was *chefs kiss*. I loved how he knew her choice already because he knew Rogue, knew her heart, that he could easily see that what mattered to her was helping the new generation of mutants. I also think it's a relief for Rogue that she doesn't have to defend or explain herself. There was no hissyfits or relationship ultimatums. Just a simple understanding between the two.

I know you asked for a moment but it's honestly hard to find just one from Mike Carey's run. I have more than this but I think these are the main main ones.

This episode has some really strong points, and some points that really frustrate me. It averages out into being a weird dud right before the two part finale.

Soul Sever is an excellent character, Flicker is a good little buddy, and the episode is plot important because of the loss of the Thundertank and the revelation of what the Book has been pointing to, but Lion-O's weird hissyfit really drags it down in my eyes.

It's not quite as bad as how the worst moments in New Alliances ruined that episode, but I guess the common thread in the two episodes of this show I dislike is the way Lion-O is written. But even New Alliances has stuff I like in it, too.

I want to say cut Lion-O's nonsense and replace it with a B plot starring the rest of the team and that would make the episode better, but Lion-O's nonsense is what the thematic point of the episode actually is so they'd need to find something else for the episode to be About.

Or maybe you could have Pumyra be the one angry about technology instead of Lion-O. She hasn't been around long enough for it to be as jarring, and it vibes better with her personality. It could've been another way for her and Lion-O to clash and then bond. But that might just be me having my shipper goggles on tight.

I guess it just is what it is.

But now that it's over, we're all out of preamble. Next time, the beginning of the end.
