People love to tell me I “look white”

I used to not care, but the more I think about it the more offensive it gets. I hate it even more when people whisper it to me because they know it’s a weird thing to say.

No, I don’t look white. I look very much Hispanic. Spanish was my first language even though I was born here. and YES my English is good. I was born in the US... There are people who look like me all over Central America. Sure I’m not blessed with as much melanin as I wish I had, but I don’t “look white.” However YOUuuuu look ignorant. Why are you whispering when you tell me this? Is it because you like me more now that I’m “not white” in your eyes and it might be offensive to white people around us if they hear it? Because it’s offensive to me when you strip me of my culture. Why can’t you just ask my ethnicity if you find it curious that I’m fluent in Spanish or talk about my heritage?
