Hispanic Heritage Month Thread
So I haven’t really seen much about Hispanic Heritage month anywhere and honestly that sucks and just further pushes my feelings about how disregarded we are in the media. As such, I’ve decided to put together a little thread of my favorite Hispanic singers/actors/characters/series etc.! I’m hoping to make at least one post per day (I have a really tough schedule!) to spread representation!
And to my fellow Hispanics/Latinx community, please, please, please feel free to reach out to me for a good talk (via questions, anon or not) about anything you want! The goal here (at least for me) is to feel known, be heard, and feel like we matter.
And you know, if you’re a writer then hey! We’ll have plenty more things to talk about!

Quote
I have sat and wept At the feet of Gods long dead Do they slumber Do they decay All but my heart has wasted away I have sat and wept For people who keep living For people who keep dying Tears for those gone Tears for those forced to stay Scarlet to run into the streets To pool at the feet Of Gods who are silent And blind, no one turns To the ones still speaking

Writer of the Week: Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Tumblr media
Gabriel Garcia Marquez was a Colombian novelist and writer of many profound short stories including, A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings and The Handsomest Drowned Man In the World. Many readers of Marquez know many of his stories to be primal examples of magical realism. His works have influenced writers all over the world, particularly in the Latino and Hispanic Community. This week the Level II and Level III class will be reading two of Garcia’s novels: One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Autumn of the Patriarch. We strongly recommend reading Garcia’s work. If interested, below is a link to one of his short stories:

Head, heart, tongue in cheek. Speak. If only for a moment. A minute. A hour. A second away from the time of your life. A serrated knife. Held up by principals not yet understood by men. A fan of the olden days but hating the ones he hasn't even met yet. How does he know. To sew. To act. To read and write. Plead and fight. Shining each night. Every bite you take is out of a friend. The means to an end-lessly spiraling in and out of paper cups. Trying to make a few bucks. Shucks I guess I can't complain. No fame or name game. No liars and hate laying in wait. Here comes their time to shine. Drinking comes on the speaker and you start to think your troubles all back to you. As if they ever left in the first place. Your face. Pale in the mirror. Another night. Another life gone down the drain the chance to entertain drags more by the brain. But fuck, I'm here too. But hell I came to fight. How about you? -TLSM
