10 Fandoms, 10 Characters, 10 People
Thanks for the tag @jaywalkers <3. I love your list of characters, you’ve got great taste : )
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same
1) Andrew Minyard from All For the Game
My blorbo of all time probably. No character has given me brainrot and writing inspiration the way he does and likely no character ever will. This post sums up his appeal perfectly
2) Lan Wangji from Mo Dao Zu Shi
My newest blorbo from my most recently joined fandom. What can I say, I’m a sucker for incredibly queer competent stoic prob neurodivergent men that are absolutely insane about one person. When I watch the MDZS donghua, I literally have to pause every time he comes on the screen just so I can stare at him a bit, so you could say I’m a bit obsessed
3) Kim Theerapanyakul from KinnPorsche
He’s this weird little guy that is simultaneously the most competent character in the show and the biggest cringe-fail loser. He looks so suave and cool on the surface with his whole Taylor Swift by day mafia prince detective by night thing but then you realize he’s actually a complete nerd with a whole ass literal murder conspiracy board hidden behind a giant selfie portrait of himself and I love him so much (also he’s played by Jeff Satur, who makes my aesthetic attraction senses go haywire, but that’s neither here nor there)
4) Kyuzo from Samurai 7
My 1st fictional crush and prob my earliest blorbo. My type in favorite fictional male character (hypercompetent stoic character that doesn’t talk much with bonus points for iconic hair) can 100% be attributed to him. His story was the earliest villain redemption arc I can remember encountering in media (this was the 1st anime I ever watched so I was like 4 or 5 when I 1st saw this guy) and so for me I always think of him when I see people talking about iconic redemption arcs (sorry Zuko)
5) Midorima Shintarou from Kuroko no Basket
At the peak of my high school sports anime phase, this guy was my favorite. He’s tall, he’s green, he’s an anime glasses characterâ„ąïž, he’s tsundere, he’s prissy, he’s weird af, he’s got one of the most bonkers basketball skills ever, and he’s even an astrology girlie. What’s not to love
6) Merlin from BBC Merlin
BBC Merlin is the fandom that sucked me in at a time where I thought I was growing out of fandom and fanfic (spoiler alert: I very much was not) and it’s responsible for completely changing my relationship with fandom into something much more intense than it was previously. And it’s all thanks to this funky skinny wizard man who for whatever reason captivated me enough that I read hundreds of thousands of fan-created words about him for nearly a year and a half
7) Jasnah Kholin from The Stormlight Archive
She’s one of the rare canonically asexual female characters, and she’s even from a major fantasy book series too! I fixated on this character long before I knew I was ace (though perhaps that should’ve been a clue lol), mostly because I just thought she was so cool and I found her whole “why would I want a relationship when I’m busy with all this shit to study” attitude so relatable
8) Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
I wanted to be her so badly when I was a kid y’all have no idea. She just made such an impression on me because she’s so cool and so strong but also unapologetically and obviously feminine and that really struck a chord with young me and is prob the reason why I didn’t really have a “not like the other girls” phase cuz she was revolutionary for little me’s idea of how a “girl” can be. To this day she is the character that to me has the coolest powers ever
9) Cassandra of Troy from Greek Mythology
It’s prob weird to include her but I was a real greek mythology girlie (in that I was into it before Percy Jackson came out) and Cassandra has always my favorite. The tragedy of her story has always been very appealing to me and upsettingly relatable in a lot of ways
10) Kym Ladell from Purple Hyacinth
Ms. Kym one of those characters that’s ostensibly the comedic relief except nope she’s hiding oceans of pain under her smile. She’s got trauma and a tragic backstory that she hides from the rest of the main characters in one of the strongest “this is fine” performances you’ve ever seen

Headcannons Tsurugi Kinjo x Reader (divine luck) (1/4)
Ask by anonyme
--------------
Tsurugi loves you very much, he spends his time hugging you since you are one of the only people still alive who cares about him but he is too tsundere to do it in front of the others.
In the Kisagari foundation, he puts you on his knees while he works with his adorable focused air.
He has known for a long time that you have the same power as Utsuro but over time, he has learned to trust you but still watches you in case you become an ultimate despair.
As soon as a member of his foundation hints that his boss is spending time with a person, he pulls out his service weapon and you innocently tell him that Tsurugi is very good (actually, you mean his lips) which turns the poor former ultimate police officer into a totally red smoking wreck, luckily he's really in love with you <3
Your power is really useful in tracking down criminals but you really don't agree with the way Tsurugi treats them.
If one day, you were to leave him, he would become totally cold with everyone not wanting to suffer from love anymore even if honestly before that, there is the phase where he cries every night when no one sees him.
If you become a criminal, he would be both pissed and both extremely sad trying to kill you and then commit suicide since he cares too much about you to live without his sweetheart (your first name) (your last name)

i see ur very good post on kaminari and sero and i raise you kaminari and shinsou
okay so if you’re gonna come at me asking for my takes on denki ships
-i think shinkami is very sweet and wholesome!! the way i imagine it though it would be like, kaminari’s thinking “i gotta integrate this guy into the class, we could all be really good friends! oh man actually i think me and this guy are really good friends. oh no i want to kiss him now” so he’s being VERY forward in a sorta disastrous way. meanwhile it’d take shinsou a lot longer to start returning the feelings cause i feel like he’s a very independent person (meaning both that he’d enjoy doing things on his own and that he wouldn’t care as much about people wanting to be with him) and that maybe wouldn’t mesh so well with kaminari’s all-out attempts at best-befriending him. so like a very good wholesome ship but not one where i can imagine shinsou doing the chasing
-on the other hand i like the ‘two idiot boys’ thing kamisero has going on bc i can really imagine sero like. Flirting and kaminari being dense enough to return it without realizing it’s actual, romantic flirting. i don’t really like to imagine that krbk could fall into the “we’ve been dating for 4 months and he still thinks we’re friends” bit (krbk’s about the equality, EVERYTHING’S gotta be mutual or what’s the point) but i’d imagine if kaminari and sero were out there, like, holding hands at the movies or sharing food at a diner and sero called it a date kaminari would be like “wait a DATE??” and sero’d be like “...we’ve been dating since last month???” and kaminari could just be like “WHAT...that’s cool though ok boyfriends” and just carry on like usual
-other than the fact that i’ve had my feet planted firmly in the krbk ground for the past 2 years and i’m not super into shipping either of them w anyone else, i’m just not rly drawn to kirikami bc i feel like it’s Too much of just guys being dudes. like this is 100% just me but i feel like they’d be on the same wavelength all the time which is ofc a very sweet and fun dynamic but not all that interesting to me
-aaaand despite the fact that i’ve typed Paragraphs of serokami scenarios in the past few days i’ve gotta say kmjr is my favorite kaminari ship. i’m sorry. i liked bbrae in my middle school teen titans phase, i liked harutaka in my kagepro phase (which is still going on but like, in the Earlier part of my kagepro phase), “dumb and kinda helpless guy trying hard to court tsundere-ish cool girl who pretends she doesn’t love it” is so tried and true. plus their scenes in canon are always adorable. you’d think jirou would try to distance herself from kaminari’s whole situation but the way she actively pokes fun at him? and he’s clearly whipped for it? come ON
-but you know what’s better than kaminari in love w his much cooler and smarter girlfriend? kaminari in love with his TWO much cooler and smarter girlfriends. hear me out i know kamimomojirou sounds haremy at first but consider that it’s DOUBLE the “local man needs everyone to know how amazing his girlfriend is”. kaminari’s still usually the butt of the joke but overall i feel it’d be a really sweet and supportive relationship and all 3 of them are bi
thaaat’s all the major kaminari ships i can think of but if there’s one i missed feel free to send me an ask and i’ll give you the rundown!

Players take on the role of four young adventurers - Sigurd, a brave and kind-hearted knight, Leilia, a gentle and motherly cleric, Edric, a gifted yet sharp-tongued mage, and Ruby, a cheeky, fun-loving thief - who have no recollection of their lives prior to meeting one another. However, as the heroes ascend the Celestial Tower, they begin to realize that not everything is as it seems. Just what is the Dark One that plagues their world so, and what truly happened to the Four Gods of legend? The answers to these questions lie in wait for them at the top of the tower
but do they truly want to discover them?
Play the game here! Our Interview With The Dev Team Below The Cut!
Introduce yourself! I'm Queenie and this is my second game that I've developed, written, and composed for (my first game was Prom Dreams: A High School Love Story, a horror / dating sim game available whever you can download Turovero from). I've been making games in earnest for about 4 years now, but I did use to muck around in the old bootleg version of RPG Maker 2000 when I was a kid I guess. Because one of the main complaints about my first game was the artwork, and because I, er, can't draw very well, I also enlisted the help of @genkaiko, @caffeineandcarpaltunnel, @pleasedrawmore, and @meakersneakers to draw the character artwork, title and ending artwork, enemy artwork, and cutscene artwork respectively. Check them out too if you've got the chance!
Tumblr media
What is your project about? What inspired you to create this game initially? *Queenie: I've always enjoyed horror games and games that started out normal / cute / cliched but slowly turned into something darker as they went on. I also really love RPGs and adventure games. So, naturally, I figured I'd combine the two at some point, and thus the initial concept for Turovero was born!
How long have you been working on your project? *Queenie: Total development time was around 2.5 years.
Did any other games or media influence aspects of your project? *Queenie: Considering every games I've made so far is essentially cobbling together various ideas from games and anime I love, you bet your ass it did LOL. Gameplay involves a mix of classic Final Fantasy-esque battles and Zelda-style field puzzles, whereas the story and atmosphere takes inspiration from other RPG Horror games and anime such as Madoka Magica and Higurashi. Essentially, dark psychological drama wrapped up in a nice little JRPG shell. Or something like that.
Tumblr media
Have you come across any challenges during development? How have you overcome or worked around them? *Queenie: Besides my complete and utter lack of art skills (which I thankfully had my team to help me with!), I also really struggled with the field skills due to RPG Maker's admittedly shoddy collision detection. I was eventually able to make the mechanic work around 90% of the time (and if it doesn't, protip: push up against the object before activating the field skill), so it's thankfully playable, but it sure was a pain to work with :T
Have any aspects of your project changed over time? How does your current project differ from your initial concept? *Queenie: I actually try to fully create a solid outline of my games and then stick to it, for the most part, so that I don't lose track during development. So, to be honest, not a whole lot changed besides some minor details, such as names, battle skills, and combat balance adjustments. Although, I did originally envision the theme and look of the final "dungeon" a bit differently (which I obviously won't go into details about), and only went with the current design because I couldn't get the sprites to cooperate with me and I was like "well, eh, this is the next best thing I guess". :P
Tumblr media
What was your team like at the beginning? How did people join the team? If you don’t have a team, do you wish you had one or do you prefer working alone? *Queenie: I did about 80% of the game myself, but I did have an interview/portfolio submission process for artists. I knew many of them previously, and the title artist I'd already had a working relationship and internet friendship with, so that made things easier as well. It also helped that I could share my ideas (and memes. lots of memes.) during the development process so I didn't have to keep the game 100% secret, haha.
What is the best part of developing a game? *Queenie: The music!! I freakin' love composing okay. I also love writing emotional or comedic scenes, then see other people's reactions to them as they play. Speaking of which, my jar of Player Tears seems to be running a little empty lately... :3c
Do you find yourself playing other RPG Maker games to see what you can do with the engine, or do you prefer to do your own thing? *Queenie: I usually just go with the kind of gameplay my story needs and that my developer's skills will allow; sometimes I see another game and go "oh, that's possible?", and might keep that knowledge in handy, but I don't actively seek out gameplay inspiration or anything.
Tumblr media
Which character in your game do you relate to the most and why? (Alternatively: Who is your favorite character and why?) *Queenie: My boy Edric and his grumpy yet adorable tsundere ways LOL. I have a thing for characters with love problems okay ;;
Looking back now, is there anything that regret/wish you had done differently? *Queenie: I do kind of wish the game had a way to do something like unison attacks from the Tales series, since it'd be thematically consistent with the game's ideas of friendship and unity, but at the time I wasn't willing to fudge around with the battle engine too much, so I shelved the idea.
Do you plan to explore the game’s universe and characters further in subsequent projects, or leave it as-is? *Queenie: I have ideas for some prequel stories (in an e-book or even a visual novel format) that expand upon the characters and world a bit, but I'm waiting to gauge interest in them.
Tumblr media
What do you most look forward to upon/after the release of a project? *Queenie: Player reactions and Let's Plays, definitely. I feed off of player reactions. I crave them like a zombie craves brains. If you play my games please tell me how much you suffered - er, enjoyed it, it really makes my day!
Is there something you’re afraid of concerning the development or the release of your game? *Queenie: Honestly, only that it'd attract the wrong kind of fan - you know, the ones who harass people over fictional characters and over a work not being 100% to their particular standards. Thankfully that hasn't seemed to happen yet, and most people who've played my games are super chill and awesome.
Do you have any advice for upcoming devs? *Queenie: Use outlines and try not to shovel features into your game just because you can! Figure out what kind of game you want and then focus your energy on making it the best version of that image that you can. Sure, my games may not take advantage of everything RPG Maker can do, but I don't think they need to - I only needs the elements that will help me tell my story the way I want to.
Tumblr media
Question from last month's featured dev @Teal Crown: If you're working on a team, how do you manage to keep organized? (Otherwise: If you could meet your favourite dev, the one that inspires you the most, what would you ask them?) *Queenie: My artists and I kept up via Tumblr messenger and Discord mostly. I also made a beta testing server when the game reached the testing phase, which was very helpful and also loads of fun. :)
We mods would like to thank Queenie for agreeing to our interview! We believe that featuring the developer and their creative process is just as important as featuring the final product. Hopefully this Q&A segment has been an entertaining and insightful experience for everyone involved!
Remember to check out Turovero: The Celestial Tower if you haven’t already! See you next month!

So I had this cool idea to draw a tiny picture as an answer for each of the sylvari asks, which isn’t actually that cool when you realize that @sariannearies asked me like 20 things. Well, let’s do it anyway, I thought and started sketching! I drew the first six and realized I didn’t like how they looked, and then I sold my soul to FFXIV for several days, so I ended up just coloring this one sketch of Ewoqi because it didn’t look that bad and I never draw Ewoqi. Text answers under the cut! It’s long.
Ita 6) What’s their relationship with the Pale Tree? “MOOOOM I’M BACK!” is what everyone up in Omphalos Chamber heard moments before the Avatar of the Pale Tree quickly lied down on the ground pretending she’s still unconscious. The relationship itself is fine, mostly, there’s just a bit too much of Ita sometimes. 7) How do they react to Mordremoth when they first hear him? Excited, because hey, a new friend to speak to, and it’s right in my head! : D 14) What did they see in their Dream? A lot of shiny and colorful stuff. So much shiny. So many colors. They say Pale Tree breathed some weird asuran chemicals that day. 20) Their biggest secret? Ita has many secrets. How did he seemingly cross the entire Tyria in less than an hour? How does he know how to get around this newly discovered area? Why is there a rock in the Mists with an inscription “Ita was here”? Ita just smiles when you ask, and poofs away.
Ewoqi 2) Were they modeled after a specific plant? If not, what was your inspiration? *points to the picture at the top* Reed! 4) What kind of climate are they least comfortable in? Anywhere where there are a lot of people. 5) What’s their relationship with gender? Pretty normal I guess? He’s just going with whatever the older races came up with, without thinking about it too much.
Yiwoocha 7) How do they react to Mordremoth when they first hear him? Mostly nervous like everyone else, but later he gets a bit too obsessed with researching how mordrems are created and almost gets converted. 9) What are their opinions on Trahearne? Buddies! They were both in Orr researching the undead at the same time, so they probably had a lot of really nerdy undead talks together. 11) Random headcanon! Wooch likes to experiment on himself with shaping living things, so his body is full of holes that often change placement, size or shape. Sometimes he puts bones or other things in them as decorations or body modifications. Kinda like piercing, but without the piercing part.
Ibunduur 5) What’s their relationship with gender? You see, when Ibun was still human several hundred years ago, he was pretty proud about his masculinity. Then he blew his body up with magic and had to wait all that time for Wooch to find him as a wandering spirit and make him a new plant body. Except Wooch doesn’t really understand why things like masculinity are important, or what it even is. Or if you need something on your body to feel like that. So he left it out. And no matter how hard Ibun tries to explain how much he needs that, Wooch always ends up with a very confused “but why would you need that now?” 9) What are their opinions on Trahearne? They didn’t meet because Ibun got brought back after HoT happened, but if they did Ibun would be very pleased by the fact that someone is researching his clearly superior old Orrian culture to the point of being absolutely insufferable. For the same reason Priory avoids asking Ibun for help unless it’s absolutely necessary and there’s literally no other way to get to the information they need. 13) What does their love life look like, if they have one? Wooch is his bf, but it’s a very strange relationship because they’re both aro aces. Sometimes Ibun attempts to do something he heard that other people in relationship do, without actually understanding why, and Wooch being totally oblivious and possibly distracted by his undead chickens.
Kiwi 3) What kind of climate are they most comfortable in? Deep forest/jungle or anything with a lot of hiding spots. As long as it’s not too hot or too cold it’s fine, and with most cold places Kiwi has a lot of fluffy friends to stay warm. 4) What kind of climate are they least comfortable in? Deserts. Too hot, not enough hiding spots, lots of sand. Ew. 10) Would they take selfies? Kiwi would eat the camera. 19) Least favorite food? Wooch’s chickens. They already died, so that means it’s food, right? But why does it still move and tastes so gross???
Ochara 6) What’s their relationship with the Pale Tree? “It’s not a phase, mom” were probably one of their last words before leaving, to join his new best buddies in the Nightmare Court. 14) What did they see in their Dream? Lots of nightmare stuff. Stuff like being attacked by the fern dogs, other sylvari laughing at them, getting nauseous from flower scents and so on. It was pretty depressing to be honest and Ochara never understood why others put so much importance on their Dreams. 20) Their biggest secret? Ochara is a total tsundere for Ewoqi. When they don’t see each other for too long Ochara starts to get worried, but it’s not like they liked him, baka.
Teshul (my newest necromancer serving Joko, who I haven’t drawn yet) 6) What’s their relationship with the Pale Tree? Pretty normal at first, but after some proper reeducation/brainwashing by Joko’s people he barely remembers her. 8) During what cycle were they born? I
don’t remember actually. Probably dawn? Maybe dusk? He was really curious about discovering new places and meeting new people at first. 11) Random headcanon! He’s scared to be alone and defenseless, and always worried someone might attack him if that happens. 12) How old are they? Pretty old for a sylvari, he was born with one of the early waves I think? 14) What did they see in their Dream? Entire cities full of people who died but that didn’t stop them from being still alive and him being there with them. He left for Orr to study the undead and later somehow got to Elona by himself, years before the Pact got there. 20) Their biggest secret? Constant state of panic deep down there somewhere. Joko’s brainwashing does that to people. Teshul clings to Joko’s teachings to combat that and not think much about anything else, but honestly he needs professional help real bad :l

Gem Ascension Tropes (5XF-specific: L - Q)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Primary General Post ✩ Full Article ✩  Primary Peri Post ✩ Primary 5XF Post
Leave Me Alone!: In Chapter 4 of This is Who I Am, 5XF decides she wants nothing to do with Steven and Peridot and would rather face the dangers of Earth by herself rather than go back to them. She has no plan for where to go or what to do, but 5XF is resolved to be the only one who has a say in where life takes her and who she really is. She isn’t of sound mind at this point, and when Steven and Peridot are very close to reclaiming her (after putting the pair through hell trying to find her), 5XF is desperate enough to let the spirit of a disembodied voice possess her so that she’ll have the power to truly ward them away and make them pay for making her so mentally unhinged. By the end of Chapter 5, she gets over this thanks to Sphalerite coming into her life.
Literal-Minded: Shares this trope with her sister, though currently downplayed.
Little Big Sister: Originally, 5XF and Peridot were the same height. However, by the time the two formally met, Peridot (junior to 5XF by 6 seconds) underwent her post-ascension growth spurt. This leaves 5XF as the shorter of the pair by a few inches.
Locked Out of the Loop: After the events of Act I, White Diamond goes out of her way to keep 5XF and all other Homeworld gems oblivious to the causes of the drastic changes occurring in Homeworld, including the fates of Yellow and Blue. By Act III, she and her fellow Peridots are rounded up and held in various pocket dimensions for the sole purpose of stalling the Crystal Gems, but the most even 5XF knows by that point is that she’s being mandated to pretend she’s 5XG.
Loner-Turned-Friend: Thanks to Sphalerite, 5XF has learned to open up to others and dare to trust someone other than herself. While she still has a very low opinion of Steven and Peridot specifically, 5XF is open and willing to get to know the other Crystal Gems and hopes to befriend them.
Love Redeems: Even Garnet believes by the end of This is Who I Am that 5XF wouldn’t have progressed as much as she had if Sphalerite hadn’t been there to pick up the pieces after 5XF’s little meltdown in Chapter 5. She can see that Steven and Peridot wouldn’t have been able to help 5XF understand Earth or her new life any better. Even more, Sphalerite’s support has helped 5XF find the courage to own up to her mistakes and wrongdoings and is willing to face the consequences. Additionally, 5XF is driven to atone for what she put Steven and Peridot through and is consequently very cooperative with the other Crystal Gems. Without a doubt, Sphalerite and their abrupt love affair helped 5XF make great leaps in her Character Development.
Loves My Alter Ego: Both exaggerated and (somewhat) justified: 5XF at best is just very unimpressed with Steven and Peridot, both as individuals and collectively
usually she holds a great deal of contempt for them, though. Their fusion, Sphalerite, on the other hand
5XF is completely obsessed with her. Her love is absolute for this fusion, and the feeling is mutual on Sphalerite’s end. Steven and Peridot, of course
they’re not fans of this at all (especially when their affair started by taking advantage of their comatose states within their fusion).
Loving Details: While waiting for Sphalerite to wake up from her Deep Sleep (which goes on for more than half a day), 5XF is compelled to write up a preliminary profile for Sphalerite to add to the Crystal Gem database on Peridot’s tablet at a later date (when the fusion is properly introduced to everyone). Despite only knowing Sphalerite for a few hours at this point, 5XF manages to write about her for twelve pages. It’s heavily implied that 5XF has fallen for Sphalerite by this point, as the narrative points out how often she’s thinking of the fusion and is inexplicably overjoyed to see her not defuse despite so much time having passed since Steven and Peridot formed her.
Moment Killer: One of the reasons 5XF is being released from her bubble at the start of This is Who I Am. Steven and Peridot have had a good number of days alone together, but now they’re getting a little too eager for each other and moving a bit too fast. Both are aware of this, and know that with 5XF around, her presence will prevent them from going too far. Chapter 3 has her become this without actually being there, but rather through Steven mentioning that they haven’t checked on her in a while, just as he and Peridot were about to indulge in each other. Peridot’s pretty peeved but concedes without complaint.
Mood-Swinger: Evident in This is Who I Am when you compare 5XF’s behavior in Chapter 3 to how she acts in Chapter 4: she’s basically on opposite ends of the spectrum in more ways than one. Sphalerite even lampshades this in Chapter 6.
5XF: “Sphalerite, I don’t know why I’m feeling this way! I swear I don’t! It feels ridiculous that I could feel like this at all, let alone so quickly!”
Sphalerite: “You’ve, uh
nearly gone through the entire emotional spectrum at this point.”
Ms. Exposition: Similar to Peridot, 5XF offers quite a lot of insight on Homeworld life in This is Who I Am. In many ways, she trumps her little sister in this role due to her abnormally sharp perceptive skills and insatiable curiosity. In Chapter 2, she explains to Steven in detail what it meant to be a Peridot on Homeworld, revealing they have next to no personal rights; not even to defend themselves when assaulted. She reveals details that strongly suggest Peridot is still holding a major secret from Steven, which turns out to be true in the next chapter (though 5XF’s overall suspicions were only partially accurate, ultimately). As a character, she represents how badly Peridot affected her fellow kind during her Manipulative Bastard days, even indirectly (as they never crossed paths back then). In Chapter 7, she backs up Peridot when talking about a gem’s capability for reproduction and even supplies information her sister lacks, such as why gems can reproduce naturally despite it always being illegal on Homeworld.
Must Make Amends: It is 5XF’s fault that Gypsum has become a threat to Earth, and being bonded to her crystal is a clear sign that she’ll unwittingly put the Crystal Gems through hell when they do directly confront the corrupted gem. However, 5XF is not only needed to accomplish this mission of neutralizing Gypsum as a threat, but would be coming along regardless because she does feel driven to make up for the potential catastrophe her poor decision-making caused.
My God, What Have I Done?: Downplayed, but evident in 5XF’s expression when she watches Steven and Peridot sob in each other’s arms after barely surviving being forced to fight each other to the death
which was her doing. When 5XF realizes she’s not feeling the least bit good about seeing the couple suffer what she previously claimed was a just punishment, the guilt quickly seeps in. It isn’t long before 5XF is resolved to do whatever she can to make up for what she did.
Narrating the Obvious: Attempts to defy this many times throughout This is Who I Am starting with Chapter 2. More often than not, she lampshades it.
(After Steven mends Peridot’s gemstone with his Super Spit)
5XF: “I-I would say you healed her, but that’s blatantly obvious!”
Nervous Wreck: Justified in the first half of This is Who I Am; 5XF has every reason to fear and doubt everyone and everything she sees now that she’s suddenly been permanently immigrated from Homeworld to Earth. Pretty much everything about her old life has vanished in an instant, and now she’s understandably overwhelmed after learning what exactly happened after Ruby poofed and bubbled her in Act III and what to do from here on out.
Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: While 5XF did dreadful things to Steven and Peridot in This is Who I Am, there are a myriad of outside influences that forcibly drove her off the deep end. She not only struggled with a great power influencing and exaggerating her mental and physical woes that she only accepted when it became apparent 5XF had no choice than to “be captured” by Steven and Peridot, but Steven and especially Peridot in their own right did a subpar job adjusting her to Earth and helping 5XF adjust to her new life. Their inability to foster a long-term trusting relationship with 5XF led to the chain of events that resulted in 5XF getting possessed by a corrupt gem’s spirit, as 5XF legitimately only wanted to take control of her life back and adhere to no one’s terms but her own. She wanted nothing to do with Peridot and Steven and only attacked them when they pursued her. After regaining her senses and having time to relax and recover with Sphalerite, 5XF legitimately regretted what she put Steven and Peridot through; it wasn’t just because she fell in love with their fusion. In Chapter 7, 5XF makes it clear that the last thing she wants to be is “another 5XG” – in other words, she wanted to repent for her crimes rather than get away with them. 5XF is rough around the edges, but there’s nothing inherently evil about her.
Not So Different: Steven silently takes note of this between her and Peridot in Chapter 2 of This is Who I Am. 5XF often comes off as a Tsundere when Steven points out her being sentimental and concerned for Peridot and himself. Coincidentally, much like Peridot during the early phases of her redemption arc, 5XF always refers to others with a “the” preceding their name. The Amethyst, The Steven, The Jasper, and so on. Peridot’s the only exception; she is always addressed as 5XG. Her general manner of speaking is also fairly similar to Peridot’s, though notably toned down. As 5XF further develops, she continues to acquire traits or make decisions eerily similar to her sister’s without meaning to – Steven’s comments of certain tropes “running in the family” might be more on the nose than he realizes.
Ocean Awe: When Sphalerite tours her through Millennium Island, 5XF is awestruck when she sees the ocean for the first time in her life. Considering she lived in a world that had virtually no water whatsoever, seeing this much at once leaves a major impression on her. The sight of the ocean quickly becomes a visual 5XF associates with her own comfort, and she was absolutely thrilled to learn her new home would also be on a beach with a full view of an ocean.
Official Couple: With Sphalerite, as of This is Who I Am Chapter 6.
Only Sane Gem: When Steven and Peridot are her only company, 5XF believes herself to be this wholeheartedly. Played fairly straight for the first half of This is Who I Am. Even after her major breakdown, 5XF refuses to acknowledge either of her caretakers’ competence and still thinks they’re both crazy.
Overcome with Desire: 5XF falls in love with Sphalerite within a day of meeting her. While she has enough of an understanding of relationships to be self-aware of how absurd it is for her to fall for someone this quickly and want to act on it, 5XF lacks the experience to do anything more than hold back on her urges
until she finds out that Sphalerite reciprocates her feelings. Within mere minutes, the pair instantly teleport to their vacation home (only doing so because both don’t feel like dealing with the consequences of doing this in sand), and a marathon of Coitus Ensues.
Power Incontinence: At first 5XF seems to adapt well to the mysterious power that is naturally attracted to her, as she makes good use of them eluding Steven and Peridot and incapacitating the pair in This is Who I Am Chapter 4. With Gypsum’s help, 5XF even manages to fragment the couple’s very identities and set up two deathmatches where they’re forced to fight each other’s dark counterpart – even keeping the two battles isolated in different dimensions to prevent the light combatants from helping each other – creating an elaborate and sadistic game where only one of them would ultimately survive. Once Light Peridot finds a loophole to make both matches end in a No Contest, 5XF finds she can’t do anything about it and has no way of reliably controlling her own powers. It’s worth noting 5XF never really knows or understands what these powers truly are; the last thing she manages to do is put Steven and Peridot back together (after being intimidated into it via 5XG/Dark Peridot). By that point, 5XF finds herself regretting ever becoming Gypsum’s power vessel, and said powers are completely dormant once she and Sphalerite leave Gypsum’s domain. They’re guaranteed to make a comeback when the Crystal Gems properly confront Gypsum, but everyone is aware 5XF is going to be a major liability in the power department, as she still has no concept of the nature of the power she wields.
Powers via Possession: 5XF’s powers are not her own; they are merely on loan from Gypsum, and she can’t use them to their full potential until she agrees to a binding contract with the corrupted gem. While she was able to utilize these powers for minor feats before the contract, that was largely due to her fragile emotional state being receptive to Gypsum’s influence.
Quest for Identity: Her new life on Earth revolves around this goal and is greatly emphasized in This is Who I Am.
The Quiet One: In contrast to Peridot, 5XF survived her hellish work environment on Homeworld by simply doing her work, minding her own business, and refusing to socialize with any other gems. While she remains much more reserved than Peridot after being relocated to Earth, this trait of 5XF’s becomes massively downplayed to the point where it’s barely in effect after the changes she experienced with her new life.
