Meet the people of Woodward Ranch! To most West Virginians, the place is just a normal animal sanctuary, but to those in the know, it’s a cryptid conservation ranch :)
Wyatt Woodward is the grandson of the man who used to own the ranch (I haven’t figured out that guy yet so…). His grandfather passed and left the ranch to Wyatt in his will, despite Wyatt only having met the man once or twice when he was little. Now he’s tasked with running the place, as well as grappling with the reality that monsters, cryptids, and the supernatural are very very much real
Lucy Lovejoy is a farmhand / wrangler on the ranch. She grew up living there and is miffed that Wyatt was given ownership. She believes she’s entitled to it because she actually knows the place and Wyatt didn’t even believe in the supernatural until he came to the ranch
Dr. Herschel Finch is the ranch’s science boy (that’s probably not the official title) and he does his magic + science stuff to keep the ranch safe as well as be the resident cryptid expert. He’s very chaotic neutral and would probably kill someone…yknow…for science! Nobody really quite knows his history, despite him telling lots of strange backstories about his past.
Denny is a feral little orphan werewolf girl that lives on the ranch and has deemed it her home. She causes trouble for Wyatt because he’s easy to mess with, but she’s also the one (other than the Mothman) who sees him as family the fastest
The Mothman is one of the cryptids who regularly stays at the ranch. He was Wyatt’s grandfather’s favourite, and so Wyatt quickly becomes the new favourite of the Mothman. Just look at him 🥺 he’s so,,,🫶

Cryptoria is Finch’s ex-wife. Nobody on the ranch has actually met her, but Finch’s reasoning for why they got divorced was that “she was evil”. They question why he didn’t take that into account when marrying a literal demon, and also why that was the dealbreaker, seeing as he’s not one to be opposed to some evil from time to time, but he doesn’t elaborate. He does explain, however, that she tried to kill him. Despite that, he also actively laments the relationship, clearly missing his hot demon wife. Cryptoria divorced HIM because she found him annoying. They’re soooo toxic for each other. They’re the kind of exes that simultaneously hate each other but would totally make out again if they had the chance.

had a conversation last week with a 10 year old girl about the s5 finale and i can’t stop thinking about it. she said nathalie is the best because she loves adrien enough to lie to him about his father so that he stays happy. completely convinced that emilie was resurrected at the end and shocked when i suggested otherwise. i’ve been dying to know what the children think happened and it’s so interesting

My favourite bit of Bridgerton Season 3
Kate: Anthony, you know eating me out won’t give you an heir
Anthony: Just because it hasn’t happened YET doesn’t mean we should stop trying to make it happen, Kate!!!

I just watched ep 3 of tadc but I can’t stop thinking about the similarities between Kinger and the guy in the tapes, he says that his goal was to protect his wife and hypothetical children but he ended up shooting his wife instead thinking she was the monster
Kinger says that the dark is what calmed his wife down but he’s the one who gives off light, also I can’t help but think of Kinger and Pomni when he says hypothetical children
We don’t actually know what lead Kinger’s wife to abstraction but it would be devastating to find out it was him

brocedes stepford wife type marriage. could be het, or not
i love your fics btw!
Not really stepford wives but robot nico???
"I've updated his language model and increased his audio processing speed," says Lewis, gesturing at the cracked-open shell of electronics on the table. It doesn't really look like Nico now, but as soon as his circuits get stuffed back inside where they're supposed to be and his titanium ribs are snapped shut, he'll look just like the boy Lewis followed to MIT when he was eighteen years old. He's not nearly as smart, or as funny, or as insufferable, but he seems to charm his customers just the same.
"And what is your progress on removing the accent?" says Toto. "I understand modelling a convincing human voice can be difficult but--"
"Zero percent progress," says Lewis. "I'm not doing it, just like I'm not designing a fucking companionship mode, because he is a state of the art robotic assistant, and not a robot girlfriend."
"At the going price," says Toto, arms crossed, "you could double your revenue by adding a companionship mode."
"He can affect politeness. That's the best I'll do."
Toto throws his hands in the air. "Frankly, I don't understand your hang-ups about AI companionship. It's the done thing now, and your models are the best on the market. You could change the game, if you weren't so--"
"I said no," says Lewis.
Toto lifts an eyebrow. "I suppose your gifts are reserved just for you? Your prototype--" He points in the direction of other robot-Nico, the prototype Lewis is always tinkering with, sitting placidly on a rather avant-garde armchair in the corner of the lab. "--behaves awfully affectionately, don't you think?"
Lewis frowns, assessing proto-Nico's idle seat. The cycle of his breath is so natural Lewis could almost be fooled into thinking he was real, if he didn't feel the swell of pride in his chest at the fact that he made proto-Nico, made him almost as good as the real thing. "He's experimental. Not--not ready for the market."
Toto crosses his arms, assessing. "I'm sure."

It’s so perfect that Lucanis doesn’t sleep much, because Nöa is a nerd who can’t shut up, so she’s absolutely going to nudge him at weird hours of the night to talk about her latest Fade Physics theory, and she won’t even have to feel bad because he’s already going to be awake.

Sorry to the "Fiddleford is a saint who did nothing wrong and the things he did wrong were because of that big fat meanie of Stanford/because of anxiety/because of others" crowd I actually find very interesting that he basically founded a cult and gaslit his colleague (and sure said colleague didn't treat him right but come on he did actually tell Fidd "Um this gun thingie is a bad idea have you considered destroying that, doing meditation and going outside" he didn't tell Fiddleford to do all of what Fidd then did) and the concept of him being a bit problematic in general.

one of the things i miss the most about 90s and 00s sci-fi (tv) is how much the casts were all appearing in each other's shit all the time

Reading about William Herschel and his sister Caroline, an accomplished astronomer in her own right. All interesting, but I found particularly of note that, apparently, Caroline and William's wife did not get along and Caroline felt horribly sidelined when her brother married. She felt left out and disappointed that she was not the one running his household anymore, and then even moved out (in anger) because she could not stand the situation.
No idea what/if any of this is true, but boy, does this remind me of someone (and how she is talked about).
