do yuo think swegg woudl listen to brokencyde
or what would his mysic tatse be! (in whta u think ofc! (ialso forgot if u alreadu said what entres musictasye is but if u havent plz anserness! (ornot)))
nah unfortunately i dont think thats his type of music
i can however give you the artists i know for 100% fact he likes under the cut because it's long and i'm doing it list-view for easier reading:
3OH!3 <- very important
Kesha <- also very important
Nicki Minaj
Carly Rae Jepsen
Flo Rida
David Guetta
Maroon 5
One Direction
Miley Cyrus
Owl City
LMFAO
Katy Perry (duh)
Pitbull
Lady Gaga
Justin Bieber
Taio Cruz
Black Eyed Peas
Jonas Brothers
DNCE
Bruno Mars
Panic! At the Disco (Urie edition)
Lizzo
i mean obviously a very poppy early 2010s vibe because that was kinda a big part of the theme of him (yknow.. "swag" n all) plus the timeframe he was created and he's always kindofa time capsule OF that time (i know lizzo is more of a later years vibe deal but sh.)
obviously he knows MCR too but that's like...kinda like a ...unique taste thing or idk how to say it. like its special, not usual his character playlist for truffula flu has a lot of emo songs on it (old FOB, taking back sunday, sleeping with sirens, the spill canvas, LOTS of the used) but that's more because they fit his chara, not necessarily that he listens to them
entre's music taste has always been kinda hard for me to describe...like an indie-folk?? but also a bit folk-pop??? but he also likes old jazz with crooners and all that a lot. and bluegrass. and older country. he also likes some rock like some alt-rock (he gets it from me) but mainly indie-rock. he just...really likes stuff with that "indie" sound. ironic. but i feel like it also fits w his chara bc ive always thought that if the onceler just focused on the fact he can apparently play guitar and sing rly well??? none of this shit woulda happened and he probably woulda been happier
i've never made a whole playlist just for his music taste but a few notable artists are:
Jason Mraz <- his fav
Patsy Cline <- another fav
Vance Joy
Mumford & Sons
The Decemberists
Peggy Lee
Jack Johnson
Billie Holiday
Death Cab For Cutie
Weezer
Iron & Wine
The White Stripes
Frank Sinatra
I Don't Know How But They Found Me
Johnny Cash
Dean Martin
Radiohead
Dwight Yoakam
Andrew Bird
The Hives
IAMX <- a weird one for him but i cant unassociate
Florence + The Machine
Etta James
The Lumineers
Colter Wall

!ih spacecrew fan account here. do you have any idea concerning how they sound like? maybe with a song or just some dude talking? share them <3
if you've not thought about it you can just share a song you associate with one each and/or a song for the whole crew hehe
hmm i havent thought much about their voices (and the music i listen to doesnt typically lend itself well to projection ahaha. e.g. none of my ocs were pimped out to make money for their deadbeat family before meeting a boy who changed their life)
i do have some things though
this is my hitchhikers guide to the galaxy playlist which i made around 2020 (around the time of these ocs) which is what primarily inspired their creation
all of these songs are pretty effing bax (and the rest of them) -core
i wanted to embed the rest of these because fuck spotify but mobile browser tumblr is genuinely nightmarish to use
anyways i like to projwct onto baxxy so this (one of my faaaavorite songs ever) is also him-pilled
voice-wise im not sure of the sound? kind of scraggly tboy voice. with the exact cadence of fry from futurama
i think this sound is very roy and i think she is a bit scatterbrained and absent minded (not exactly amnesiac but yk)
roy is far from dumb but i think high energy hyperpop is very much her style and i chose this song specifically because of the palpable tgirl swag. in the same vein i hear dubstep heavy mlp and fnaf fansongs and thing "this is kinda roypilled"
i think she would sound a bit like backxwash voicewise maybe. very smooth.
i associate tally very heavily with old-ish britpop (and both of the magrittes with glam rock) he wouldnt listen to weezer or radiohead (baxter absolutely would though lets be real) but he would Understand them. now imagining bax showing him angsty earth music (very cute).
this song *is* kip. its about him and he would listen to it and it is his vibes. in addition to the glamrock he is very much a goofy hard/dad rock guy
ill have to get back to you on the alien guys. i feel like they would sound very inhuman so atp i struggle with making any comparisons lol.
the music i associate all these characters with is veeery much influenced by the things i was into when i first created them and their story and what was inspiring me then eheh (glam rock, 2000s indie pop, mid-late 20th century british music. anything related to the ocean/pirates or outer space)
edit: gonna be real i entirely forgot about clam chowder. ill get back to you on this

Treefort Roaming Saturday and Sunday (Better Late Than Never)
Treefort Roaming Saturday and Sunday (Better Late Than Never)
The thing about Treefort is you want to spend time roaming, not writing, so this is my Saturday and Sunday captain’s log, and it isn’t finished until Thursday. You may feel free to whip me now.
All I can say is that it was damn cold (the coldest Treefort ever), but damn worth it. To all of the performers that performed through the cold and had their hands feel like they were being pierced by icicles, I salute you. You were all fabulous.
Saturday
Saturday was a new experience that I am grateful to have had. Along with my buddy Tim and his two five-year-old twins, Sydney and Dillion, I got to experience Boise’s unique festival from a kid's perspective. I am happy to report that Treefort is truly kid friendly.
We began by walking down the Greenbelt to the park with Uncle Brian, regaling them with\ stories about the kid-eating trolls that hide outside the tunnels. Five-year-olds love collecting swag, and they did, most notably little cow key chains from Simplot company, but Kidfort was their jam.
I had no idea. Kids get to color their own t-shirts, volunteers show them musical instruments and how they are played, and it’s generally excellent kid mayhem. While we only checked out a few bands in the park, and eating the best corndog ever was spectacular.
Getting Out of the Cold
Once kid frivolity time was over and we returned to the car, it was time to drop me off downtown and get out of the cold. One of Boise’s most favorite venues was plenty warm for a guy totally unprepared to freeze. Nuerolux never disappoints, and it was a reverb day. Perfect.
I went for Disco Doom, a fantastic band out of Switzerland, but caught 20 minutes of Boise-based Porcelain Tongue. To my liking, Porcelain Tongue brings it loud and is undoubtedly a tremendous local act to see if you like to feel your reverb and watch it cause ripples in your friends’ beers.
Switzerland-based Disco Doom released its first new album in eight years, Mt. Surreal, in September 2022, and it was well worth the wait. The band has toured with such greats as Dinosaur Jr, Built-to-Spill, and the Breeders and was a worthy addition to Treefort.
Like so many Treeforts, Disco Doom doesn’t fit in a simple box. Between the guitar distortion on their new album’s title track and the infusion of electronic elements, these guys are outstanding. Gabriele de Mario’s lyrics are laid back amid pulsating sounds, kind of like a grittier version of Beck.
I hope to see these guys again.
The Jackpot
With some time left before going to watch the disaster that was the Gonzaga-UConn basketball game, I stayed to watch You Said Strange, who I’ll be emailing and checking in on today.
I love these guys! Hailing from Normandy, they were pleased when I told them the next day that they were 2023’s Radiohead. Their guitar work is outstanding, with a psychedelic twist. It’s glorious reverb with incredible lyrics and vocals from Eliot.
Even better, they’re fantastic guys! I couldn’t wait to watch them again on Sunday at the Hideout Stage. With their full-length album on the way, I genuinely believe they have the potential to be much bigger and will undoubtedly be doing a longer and larger U.S. tour next year on bigger stages.
Older
As I get older, the nights out until 2 am become far fewer, but after watching a Zags game that nearly brought me to tears, I was off to spend the night at the Olympic, and watch Joe Hertzler and the Rainbow Seekers.
The Olympic is an outstanding venue for any band, but especially those bands that just emanate fun, and that’s Joe Hertzler. If you’re ready to groove, this is your opportunity. The lyrics are fabulous, and the saxophone is spectacular.
Fun, dancing, and smiles resulted from 70 minutes of Bliss. Let’s hope they’re back in town soon.
That’s a wrap
It was time to head home and sleep for what would be a cold Sunday.
Sunday
Sunday wasn’t just cold; it was freezing and the coldest Treefort I’ve ever experienced. Oh man, I felt for everyone playing outside. Having missed my Seattle friends Smokey Brights set, I’m still tempted to email them and ensure they survived.
Heading back for round two of You Said Strange, I started with Plastic Picnic on the main stage. This incredible Brooklyn-based band made up of PNW transplants froze their asses off for our pure enjoyment. How any band could lose feeling in their hands and keep going is beyond me.
Plastic Picnic is dream rock at its finest, navigating happiness and sadness with aplomb. You couldn’t help but just dig in for every song and feel the expressions of love, anxiety, and sorrow. The lyrics can be haunting, the harmony between members is outstanding, and Emile Panerio’s vocals are outright angelic.
Round Two
It was time to watch my new favs, You Said Strange, a second time, and I was so fortunate to spend quite some time with them in the artist’s lounge after. Regardless of whether or not I get to help them develop their North American presence, it was an honor.
I cannot encourage you enough to check them out.
By the way, the free patty melts we ate (I had mine earlier) were so damn tasty. I never knew we get free food!
Finally
Leikeli47 was phenomenal and more than deserving of placement as the ending Main Stage act.
Fun, cheering, dancing, and positivity surrounded you as the crowd pulsed with her totally original rap that felt like a celebration. If there is a fantastic artist that I’d love to meet, she’s it. Please give her finalized trilogy of albums a listen.
Home
Freezing wears you out. A little walking and checking in on the incredible sounds of Space Moth at the new Treefort Music Hall was an excellent finish before heading home to sleep off the cold.
Just a note on the Treefort Music Hall, it’s spectacular. Almost perfectly designed for music, with 180-degree viewing and excellent acoustics. Love it!
As I think about this year’s Treefort, Boise has developed an outstanding music scene. We’re the friendly city where everyone participates and loves to jam. There are no barriers to enjoying the music and no crowd of any certain type or age. It’s everyone, and it’s outstanding.
As I start Psycho Gecko Talent Management, I can’t think of a better city in which to do so.
Brian McKay is a founder of Zenruption Media, a professional writer, and has recently founded Psycho Gecko Talent Management to advance his passion for music. Treefort is his favorite yearly event.

Interview: Jarren Benton
Tumblr media
Jarren Benton is the newest artist signed to independent record label Funk Volume and 2013 looks like it’s going to be his year. Gearing up to release his debut album ‘My Grandma’s Basement’ on June the 11th, the Atlanta rapper put out the first single from the album ‘Razor Blades and Steak Knives’ earlier this month and it has had a huge response. Jarren is no average rapper and it’s hard to compare him to anyone else in the game because he has such a unique flow and style.
When I caught up with him, he was relaxed and tells me, “I’m cool as a fan at the moment.” In terms of the album, people’s expectations are high but for Jarren this isn’t a problem as he merely says it will be, “A great fucking hip hop album.” After mixtapes with titles such as ‘Huffing Glue With Hasselhoff’ and ‘Freebasing With Kevin Bacon’, Jarren continues his habit of obscure project titles with ‘My Grandma’s Basement’ but where did this particular name come from? “I spent 5 years in my grandma’s basement until I got back on my feet. Due to a deep depression that I went through I tried my best to stay as vacant from her basement as I could.”
Originally from Decatur, Georgia Jarren shares how he feels about his hometown, “I love The A just because it’s home, but I hate how we still sleep on the MC’s except Outkast that are different from the trap rappers or swag rappers in the city.” When I ask him to describe his sound in 3 words he replies, “How about 3 letters: ILL!” he smiles.
Eccentric and unconventional are words that can definitely be associated with this artist and if you don’t believe me, just check out the video for ‘Razor Blades and Steak Knives.’ It’s refreshing to have such a progressive rapper making waves and I had to ask him to share a strange fact about himself. I should have known the answer would have been far from normal, “I jerk off to fat girl and Granny porn.” The answers get even better when Jarren shares a message for his fans and critics, “I love you to all my fans and I wanna fuck all of my critic’s moms.” he smirks.
The Funk Volume signee is certainly eclectic and that comes out in his music. Even the artists he tells me he is currently listening to right now, Arcade Fire, Neon Indian, David Bowie and Radiohead, are something diverse from what other Hip-Hop rappers might say. When it comes to the best advice he has ever been given, he only says, “I haven’t got it yet.”
The best musical moment so far in Jarren Benton’s career is an easy one, “Signing with Funk Volume because it has allowed me to live my dream.” The record label offered what the major labels did not and now Jarren is ready to unleash ‘My Grandma’s Basement’ on the 11th of June. For those of you who do not know the name yet, soon it will be a hard one to forget.

Priest Live in Copenhagen
Saturday night I had the pleasure of seeing Priest live in Copenhagen! Here’s how it all went down~
It was my first night in Copenhagen and my boyfriend and I decided that the best way to get around was by purchasing the city transit app. Little did we know, the app sucks and sometimes doesn’t work at all. That being the case, we had to walk about 1km from our flat to the show. It wasn’t that bad, but it did mean that I got to experience the concert in 17 layers of aesthetic winter clothes.
So we get to the show and it’s about half way through the second opener Crackdown, which on their own was pretty good. Mauro and his wife were manning the merch table, which had signed Priest posters, signed vinyls, some of the basic Priest logo shirts, a snap back and a Priest logo pin. I think it also had some Airghoul merch too. For some reason I was hella nervous talking to Mauro even though I know he’s super chill, so I had a couple drinks and ventured over to the merch table to grab some swag. They were both nice and seemed stoked for the show.  As I was watching the opener near the back I saw Linton run over to Mauro for a sec to check out the scene. Guys, I know his hair is controversial, but his new cut is hella dank.
So the crowd cleared after the opener and I managed to get front row. I think I was actually standing next to that Joppe777 guy from Reddit which was... kinda funny.
The show was SO GOOD. It started with the birds playing Tria Prima, and Mercury coming out to kick off The Pit. He sang “come closer to me” at some girl in the audience which was super cute.
At some point in the beginning Sulfur’s computer got some issues. Salt pointed at him like “lol his fault not mine” and Sulfur was obviously pissed at the situation; he pointed at his computer to indicate that he couldn’t help it. At about the half way mark Mercury noted that, since Priest was supposed to control all of cyber space, it was a little weird for them to experience computer problems. Nevertheless, we were experiencing the group’s first glitch. If they were a rock band, Mercury explained, this wouldn’t happen, because instruments are less technical than computers (idk lol). I thought his quips were really endearing and, as annoying as the situation probably was, it gave some good characterization of the people in the band. He had us clap for the dude who was crawling under Sulfur’s gear to help fix the problem, which was dope. TBH I couldn’t even tell anything was wrong.
Anyway, holy shit, Mercury’s dance moves were awesome. You could tell they really worked on their choreography. He interacted with the audience a shitload, and had some really dramatic moments, especially in Revolver. And wow, he can really, really sing. Vaudeville made me nervous but he hit all the notes perfectly. In some parts of some songs he even growled I think?? which was cool and made the songs even more interesting. Like holy shit I didn’t know it was possible to love him more but it happened.
At the end of the show Salt shook peoples’ hands before leaving the stage, he was a real sweetheart.
The birds in general were really fun to watch, it seemed like they were both hella into the music and really enjoyed playing. Sulfur seemed obviously irritated at the issues they were having and tried to focus their farewell bowing on Salt and Mercury, but Salt beckoned him over to join them. It was super cute; like homie we get it sometimes issues happen, nbd.
Omg and their encore, a cover of Street Spirit by Radiohead, was so haunting and awesome.
The only issue I had with the show was that it was too short! They didn’t play Virus or Nightmare Hotel; I really hope they can find a way to incorporate them into their set in the future.
Call me biased, but the atmosphere of the club and quality of the music made the show one of my favorites. I’m a little bummed that I didn’t get to meet them due to transit problems (apparently they were chillin’ in the bar talking to fans before the 2nd opener) but it’s whatever; I’ll just have to wait for them to come to the US. Priest has a LOT of character, talent, and potential. I can’t wait to see where they go from here.
(soorry for the quality of pics I was very Not Sober)
Keep it up @priestutopia y’all are lit. <3

What does it mean to be a shy black woman performer in a world where black women are never thought to be shy? Before I went to meet her, I had read articles that decided it just wasn't possible that Missy Elliott is shy. The Guardian wrote that "scary diva is what you expect"; they do not explain why they expected her to be scary, they just say it. In the same way that no one explains what I should expect when I'm told over and over again that Missy Elliott is very shy, without anyone offering a larger understanding of what it might mean. Would she need to be coaxed to open up? Would she not answer my questions? At the shoot, the photographer yells out to her: "Don't be shy—I love it! Let's turn the music up."
Although I got the sense that others were fretful about how this "shyness" would manifest itself in our conversation, after I watched videos of her performing in concert, I was not.
What no one seems to realize is that Missy, like most shy black girls, had long ago been forced to master a certain skill: to hammer down her shyness, along with any fear, to some low, unseen place deep inside of herself, and keep it there until she could step over it, again, again, again.
From the moment I walked on the set, I assumed that Missy Elliott was someone who had this skill, that her ability to rise was ingrained, and I wasn't there for long before we are all watching just that: Missy the Performer—exuberant, high-stepping, arms up in the air, roof-raising, and hair whipping—taking over the monitors and smiling like a woman who has released five platinum albums, possesses four Grammys, and has sold 30 million records and knows very well how to overcome being called scary or feeling shy.
When Missy Elliott dropped her debut album exactly 20 years ago, she altered the spectrum and the range of hip-hop. She made it wild and hyperdimensional. Suddenly, we could all see and hear more. The first rap album I ever purchased was Supa Dupa Fly. And the most important video in the story of my life is "The Rain." On "The Rain," she raps about what still sounds like a perfect day: some light precipitation that clears, smoking some weed, driving to the beach, and dumping an undeserving man. It's a simple enough narrative, but she made it sound strange and wonderful. This was what hip-hop would sound like if it were conceived inside of the calyx of an African violet, unfurling and wet.
[...]
But what makes her iconic is not the numbers; it is what she empowers in others. Missy was always aware of her worth, her real worth—not the fluff or the proxies for currency and confidence that most people depend on. She always expressed what so many of us feel on the inside but have no model for how to display. Her refusal to discuss her personal life has allowed her to deftly deflect any inquiries about her real life toward her surreal life: The one she inhabits with her many costumes and her various personalities. In almost every video, Missy Elliott is a different character (a black Barbie in "Beep Me 911"; a floss-fluorescent, bald-headed creature in "She's a Bitch"; a black Beatrix Kiddo at war with a rival gang that's driving the Pussy Wagon in "I'm Really Hot"). This is the stuff that makes her Missy Elliott, the legend. It is a demand for privacy, but also a sign of wisdom. She's kept our eyes on the prize. She seemed to know early on that the only thing that matters is the work, and it can look fun. But ultimately, the relentlessness and the far-reachingness of it are what have kept her in orbit.
Missy Elliott is a creator's creator. They say that, before he died, Michael Jackson asked her to teach him how to rap. The Dirty Projectors work below a triptych of the people they consider to be the all-time greats: Joni Mitchell, Missy Elliott, and Beethoven. Tyler, the Creator once told GQ that in his mind, alongside Elizabeth Taylor, Missy Elliott was one of the most stylish women ever to exist. "I'm not even talking about her normal dressing. Just the swag that she had in her videos. She made a fucking plastic bag look awesome," he said. Björk, Herbie Hancock, Debbie Harry, Lil Wayne, and Solange Knowles cite her as an inspiration. And Patti LaBelle has thanked her for bringing R&B back. "Missy's so amazing," Thom Yorke of Radiohead once said, that "she makes me want to spit."
[...]
In 1983, Octavia E. Butler, the first major black woman science fiction writer, published a story, "Speech Sounds," that imagines a world where almost everyone has lost their voice, and because of that they no longer remember how language works. One of the few exceptions is a woman named Rye, and as the story progresses, she comes to realize that even though is it dangerous to speak, she has to, and she has to help the children who have been left behind, who like her are still trying to form words and express themselves under such perilous conditions.
On Missy's 2015 song "WTF (Where They From)," there is a sample of a young girl speaking. The voice belongs to Rachel Jeantel, the friend of Trayvon Martin who was on the phone with him when he was murdered. Missy doesn't bring this up, I do. She goes almost mute when I say that by sampling Jeantel's voice, Pharrell and she have done a remarkable thing that has reversed what usually happens to the words of girls who look like Rachel Jeantel. They have preserved them for the record, credited her for her voice and her words, and made sure she got paid. The witness becomes the writer. From the test comes the testimony.

How Arthur and Eames really met before Inception!
Arthur’s parents didn’t know what to do with their son. Arthur Levine was the smartest kid in the room. He was also the wildest kid in the room. His father suggested Arthur consider Oxford or Cambridge (or anywhere away from New York City and his harried parents) for his studies.
Arthur was accepted everywhere he applied because he was brilliant. He was also bored. So very bored. Computer Engineering might be very lucrative but it was a lonely occupation. Arthur’s need for adrenaline and excitement almost canceled out his love for crashing banking systems and hacking the CIA.
After looking for a flat and being judged by his hair and grunge hippy look, Arthur decided that he would go to Glastonbury. He wanted to see the Scratch Perverts play their set live. He wanted to dance in the mud. He had seen Radiohead preform before but Glastonbury had to be better than Woodstock a few years ago.
Eames and his buddies were inpromptu roadies for The Streets. Eames was a thief. An notorious and  well connected conman who always knew how to make the biggest scores.
But a weekend down at Glastonbury checking out the hot birds or some peng rudebois and getting wrecked all weekend with the lads sounded perfect. So working as “stagehands” for the Streets was an easy enough con for them to get backstage passes and loads of free swag.
Arthur never expected to meet anyone he’d lust after at the festival. Eames never expected to meet anyone who he’d want to know more about after he hooked up with them once. But fate had already decided that Arthur and Eames should meet again and again and again.
