Maybe I missed it because you already wrote about it, but what is your view of Catherine I, as a person? She is called The Great which of course alludes to her reign and prestige, but as a person later in life she doesn't strike me as particularly kind, especially to her son. In my view, what I have learned of her so farm is she held onto the throne for so long, rather than give it to her son at some point in his adult life. Wasn't he the rightful heir, considering Catherine herself admitted i writing he was legitimate and her husband's son, not one of her lovers? His first wife died and he grieved and to snap him out of it she told him how she cheated on him? I know he was separated from Catherine from birth but she had the chance to make their relationship count later and she just didn't seem to have understood him, at all, I'm being mild here. And he resented her too, which reflects in his choices when he became Tsar. I just think the succession would have been so much more smooth and thus good for the nation if their mother son relationship wasn't as bad as it was. It wasn't Pavels fault his father didn't have a good marriage to his mother.
I find it extremely tricky to judge a character of these bygone personalities because they are so complex and often have to make decisions none of us could face.
Personally, I think Catherine deserves to be admired for many things. She was ambitious, highly intelligent, passionate, and genuinely wanted to better life for the Russian people and further the country´s progress culturally, scientifically, diplomatically, and of course militarily. And all that, especially the military bit, came at the cost of the suffering of the anonymous crowds we know nothing about. But her achievements were undeniable and her legacy is one of the greatest Russia can boast about now.
She had lofty ideals and was at first very much determined to make them a reality, but even an Empress, especially in Russia at that time, cannot just change everything. Catherine´s power, especially in her early reign, depended on the noble families and she had to keep those on her side, so her ideals of ending the serfdom had to be postponed and were so indefinitely, etc.
Her family life was a mess though, from the very start. Her mother saw her only as a pawn for her own ambitions, eventually leaving Russia in disgrace and without even saying goodbye, Empress Elizabeth liked her in her own strange way, but there was never any closeness or true warmth between the two women. her marriage was an utter disaster and her children were all snatched away from her the moment they were born and she was hardly ever even allowed to see them. Catherine overcame her losses and personal tragedies because she decided to become something more. In fact, had she not decided to seize the power, she may have well been driven out of Russia or even killed herself.
And once her little palace revolt had been completed, she would simply not give up what she gained to her little son for several reasons. Firstly, he truly was just a child, unable to rule anyway. Secondly, after years of humiliation and fear, she was now in the position of being feared and respected. And finally, the Rolov brothers and their forces wanted her on the throne, not Pavel, and she was beholden to them.
I think Catherine grew to dislike and later truly despise her son only when he grew older and as she became an old woman herself, she got that trait of many old people who become more capricious, and selfish and believe their experiences make them, if not omnipotent, definitely better informed and cleverer than anyone else around. And she did things that were deliberately aimed at hurting Pavel, like denying him any responsibilities, instead of giving him some function at court and trying to groom him into an heir. Perhaps the worst thing she did was take away from him his eldest children in the same manner Empress Elizabeth had done to her. And allowing the rumour/information about Pavel´s paternity to simply go around was yet another attempt to hurt him. Personally, I tend to believe Pavel was the son of Peter III, based on the inherited personality traits and recently I have also come across a report that Nicholas II´s DNA tracing led to direct ancestors of Peter III. furthermore, Catherine probably hated Pavel ALSO based on the fact he was, in many ways, like her husband. I imagine had he been as pretty and gallant as her lover Saltykov, it would have been a different story.
Pavel was so very different from Catherine and in opposition to her so vocally, that she was also afraid he would run to the ground everything she had built. And that was simply unthinkable.
Catherine could be generous and caring, but as a woman in a very unique position, a woman who controlled an immense empire and had a say and care about every aspect of it, she had to make (and made) many decisions which naturally we today find cruel, unjust and selfish. To be an effective leader, you cannot rule as an angel, unless your subjects, ministers, family members, and other monarchs, are also angels. What matters most is, eventually, what remains when you are gone.
Catherine had given much to too many people not to be remembered, if not kindly, than with respect. She was not a good mother to her son at all, but she was more successful with her grandsons, and she was especially successful in the role of the mother of the nation.

~Disney Villian Legacy Challenge~
I love how random the Disney Princess Legacy Challenge is, but I kind of dislike how there isn't a lot of focus on all of the ICONIC villains of the stories!
So, I came up with a list of Disney villains that are related to the protagonist either biologically or through marriage. This isn't play-tested, but it's too fun not to share. This challenge would have you be VERY involved with ALL of the members of the Family.
BASE GAME FRIENDLY
Gen 1 - Hades
Jealous, annoyed, and DONE with his younger brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, Hades finally has enough and decides to move out of the Family home and achieve his dream of being a writer! Maybe along the way, he’ll find love (or something close).
Start as an Adult
Traits
Evil
Mean
Hot-Headed
Requirements
Reach the top of the Writing Career and write the Book of Life
Reach level 5 in the Spell Casting if you have it
Have NO friends
Never date before marrying Persephone (Freelance Botanist/gardener/florist) - Can be an arranged marriage or true love. (She is NOT Zeus's daughter!! (Demeter is a family friend of Hera))
Have NO biological children (in correspondence with most interpretations of the myths). You can cheat Hades to have Zero fertility or have him never Woo-Hoo
Adopt ONE Teen daughter, Megara, or Meg.
Have a negative relationship with Meg. Leave all the child-rearing to Persephone.
Take in your Niece and Nephew Triton and Ursula once she’s aged up to teens.
Build a NEGATIVE relationship with all your siblings, nephews, and nieces.
Once Upon A Time:
Finally out on his own as a successful man with his beautiful wife Persephone and his daughter Megara, Hades finally feels right in the world until he gets the call from his sister-in-law Hera that his brother Posideon has died mysteriously from eating poorly made pufferfish and left behind two runts Triton and Ursula! No one else in the family wants them, so you begrudgingly invite them into your home. Triton is just as annoying as your late brother, but you and Ursala get on fairly well here, also having the evil trait. She seems to be a little spell caster, too!
Gen 2 - Ursula
Ursula has always been an ambitious young lady who wants to be on top of the world!
Start as a Teen
Traits
Evil
Loner
Flirty
Requirements
Reach the top of the Mixologist career
Achieve a Terrible Reputation
Achieve the Mansion Baron aspiration
Be an A student
Make at least TWO friends
Have at least SIX pet fish
Have a Maximum of TWO children. Have a daughter the same age as Ariel
Give the child the Evil trait

Kill Three of your nieces, including Ariel
Once Upon A Time:
Having been ignored by her father while he was still alive Ursula’s learned how to take care of herself and is off in the city making a (bad) name for herself!
Her twin Triton, having inherited all of their father's money as his favorite child Triton, never has to work a day in his life! So he’s shacked up with some girl named Athena and is shaggin his way to have a school of SEVEN guppies! Athena’s a bitch, though,, and Ursula couldn’t have been happier when she died young. :)
A few years later when, Ursula finds out that her youngest niece has gone off and fallen in love with some boy whose already got a girlfriend. HER daughter! She’s had enough taken from her by her brother and his family! She’s not going to let this little mermaid girl take this from her daughter! A happy ending for her and her little girl.
With Pack
Achieve the “Purveyor of Potions” aspiration.
Curse Ursula
Have Posideon prefer Trioton for being a mermaid, unlike Ursula taking after her mother as a spellcaster instead of being a mermaid

Can only make money from partners - If possible, use a sugarbaby mod

Learning from her Mother that violence really is the way to go, Lucille becomes a black widow in her first marriage. The second try really is the charm! Lucille has achieved the life of luxury she’s always wanted! Now she can kick back her feet and have a nanny for those annoying children she somehow managed to keep around from a past marriage.

Once Upon A Time:
Like his Grand-Uncle Hades, Scar constantly feels upstaged by his Brother Muphasa. Scar ends up a bad egg with no guidance from his mother while his Brother Muphasa somehow blossoms.
Not being able to join a Business career like his brother Scar turns to crime. Along the way, he has a few love affairs and ends up with three boys. BIOGRAPHY
claudius was descended from roman generals who still lived in the area and he was a warlord who wanted to maintain control over the city he was born in, venice. he met aisha, a beautiful woman who landed on the city's ports and quickly got the attention of the local population- including claudius, who knew he needed to have her to himself. their romance quickly picked up and she would give him four sons.
little did claudius know was that his wife and sons were all djinn. as their oldest son, lucretius, began to develop his own gifts she was forced to confess the truth. claudius saw this as a net positive and used her gifts to help him maintain control of the city and its ports. as he grew more powerful and ruled over venice, his relationship with aisha began to wain.
he'd spend less time with her or their sons and soon began to resent them. he didn't like aisha trying to teach them about her culture and where she came from. when lucretius was sixteen years old, aisha caught claudius in bed with one of his hand maidens and was furious. she decided to punish her husband by making him hallucinate all sorts of things until he was deemed mad by his own guards and locked away in a dungeon.
this was when lucretius began his rule over the city with his mother for the next decade, though whispers began to spread that they were witches who poisoned claudius and explained why aisha hadn't aged in nearly thirty years. lucretius and his family fled the city in the night, settign their home on fire before they took a ship and headed out east.
lucretius spent some time in constantinople where he was a loyal advisor to the emperor at the time and even his lover. the other advisors swore lucretius was poisoning the emperor and attempted to imprison him, though he always slipped through their fingers. he'd return to the city years later when the emperor was on his death bed to say his final goodbye.
he spent the next several centuries traveling across the middle east and asia, discovering more of his own gifts and becoming stronger. him and his brothers would go their own ways around this time, one brother ended up in russia while another brother ended up india and another stayed in egypt with lucretius for some time.
around the 15th century, lucretius had made connections with the ottoman empire. he was a lover to the sultan and although he encouraged peace with the byzantinians, the sultan refused. thanks to his extensive knowledge of constantinople and how it was built, he helped his lover invade and take it over. like his mother, lucretius would eventually feel used by this lover who slowly lost interest in the djinn once he got what he wanted. lucretius would make the sultan begin to hallucinate and be deemed to mad to rule, with one of his closest generals killing the guard.
once again lucretius spent the next few centuries never staying anywhere for too long and coming to truly resent humanity, who he felt only cared about him for his gifts. he'd spend some time back on the italian peninsula during the peak of the renaissance, becoming the muse for a handful of artists who would gain notority with time.
the djinn was an advisor for the tudor dynasty briefly and some have sworn they saw him in france during their revolution, even believing he may have been one of the reasons to cause the madness but he swears he was back in india at this time.
lucretius would end up in the new world, wondering if he'd ever find somewhere he could settle down at. this was when he found what would one day be alexandria, a beacon for the supernatural and where he met other djinn like himself along with creatures he had never known existed.
building various businesses in town, including a popular nightclub that has gained a notorious reputation, lucretius isn't the most approachable or heartwarming and tends to keep to himself unless you have something he wants.

bill skarsgard . cis man . he/him ➶ I RECOGNISE THAT FACE ! that’s PRIAM PLINTH , the THIRTY-ONE year old EXECUTIVE PRODUCER from THE CAPITOL . they’ve been in the capitol HIS ENTIRE LIFE , long enough to gain a reputation for being so AMBITIOUS & IRRESOLUTE . they’re so lucky getting to live in the tribute center for the duration of the games! ( character ISN’T part of the uprising )
STATS
name: priam plinth birthday: october 4th zodiac: libra sun, aries moon, capricorn rising gender: cis-man pronouns: he/him orientation: bisexual biromantic occupation: executive producer district: capitol family: livinia crane (wife), erasmus plinth (father), zenaida plinth (mother), chiron plinth (older brother) faceclaim: bill skarsgard
PERSONALITY
positive traits: ambitious, perceptive, patient, devoted, negative traits: self-serving, insecure, indecisive, fickle, calculating, irresolute moral alignment: lawful neutral mbti: istj-t— the logistician enneagram: type 4— the achiever temperament: melancholic deadly sin: greed heavenly virtue: patience parallels: ken (barbie), macbeth (macbeth), aaron burr (hamilton), emilio barzini, sr. (the godfather)
BACKGROUND
when the second plinth child enters the world, he’s given the name priam. it’s a peculiar name and he’s never quite sure what to make of being named after a fallen king. he’s long decided it’s less of a namesake and more of a condemnation. he’s anointed with the name of the last king of troy— a vaguely threatening gesture on his parents' part.
vaguely threatening is the perfect phrasing to encapsulate the relationship he has with his parents. his older brother is everything they ever dreamed of. he fulfilled all the duties of an heir, there’s little else for priam to dedicate his efforts to outside of making the most of his second son eligibility. there existed some bargaining power in being second, and it’s how he winds up in a marriage with a crane woman, long before they’re ever given the opportunity to understand the weight of what was being done. it's a knowing that could only accompany age, something the young twenty-somethings were lacking.
he excels in school, and his accolades are airtight on paper, but within priam is something fundamentally lacking. he’s missing that aptitude for politics that seemed innate to the rest of his family. instead, he does his best to remain as interconnected as possible. he’s an arsenal of information that his family saw no real threat in him having. he’ll become something similar to the cranes. and perhaps one day, what he knows will finally amount to something— to some course of action long overdue.
and besides, gall is not something to be taught. it’s not something learned— it’s either there or it’s not. priam’s long abandoned those futile attempts to mold himself into someone he isn’t. someone gutsy and calculating. someone capable of converting untapped potential into tangible results.
this, of course, is where livinia comes in. he’s handed everything and she’s handed him in tandem. who more brilliant than the daughter of an emperor long denied the rights of an empire she earned through merit ten times over? with priam as a vessel, they could move mountains. he’s content with seeing through livinia’s ambitions if unable to rise to the occasion of his own.if only this was enough to quiet the bitterness accumulating in his core. there’s something distantly resentful in the acceptance of his circumstances. accepting his circumstances equates to admittance. it means acknowledging despite possessing every tool at his disposal, despite the fates carving out his path long before he’s born, priam is not nearly half the person he should be. not when doubt finds a way of obscuring each and every one of his endeavors.
even in what he believes was a short-term love, perhaps infatuation (does it really matter in the end?) did doubt dampen all else. priam already offered himself on a proverbial platter. why further ensnare himself to the crane woman by an emotion as binding as love? (the fact of such is not nearly enough to quiet the fluttering of his heart. he knows, despite it all, they’d never be enough for each other. never meant for each other in the most conventional sense.)
they just needed to appear as a unified front to the right people— behind closed doors, the power imbalances are starker than ever. livinia’s brilliant— he’s… well, he’s a plinth. and perhaps his job should count for something. he only needs to breathe life into such designations, to give them meaning beyond the realm of the symbolic alone.
FUN FACTS
A proud malewife in a secret failmarriage (it being a failure is the secret… or so Priam believes.) Hopes to one day be the father of some failchildren. Was once a proud groomzilla.
Has a deep Cain complex as a result of perpetually being in his brother’s shower.
Is quite consumed by his appearance. He gets haircuts and manicures biweekly.
Currently the owner of a Sphinx cat that he took custody of recently. He was never certain of her name prior to adopting to her and became unofficially known as Princess.
Follows the same routine daily. Begins the day with a jog and ends it with a light stretch.
PLOT HOOKS
people who grew up in the same capitolite circles (friends, frenemies, enemies) / that one person priam hooked up with (and was pathetic about it) after his marriage was opened / people who think he’s stupid and hate him / you think he’ll be useful because of his job / maybe one actual true friend / priam fucked you over and now you want vengeance

“mountains aren't move, they evolve, they reshape and become different on the surface but the same at their core.”
× name: dojin fenn × age: 62 × gender identity: cis male × sexuality: demisexual & demiromantic × face claim: hiryouki sanada × faction: the factionless × element: earth × district: the berg × traits: stoic, withdrawn, protective, blunt, decisive, stubborn
BLURB
a silent detractor and shield against the storm you have waited for years to be able to speak up — to speak out and tell your truth and fight for what you believe in. the powers that bind no longer hold you down and you see through clear eyes and on that horizon is glory in a new form, a world made up of all the things you dreamed as a child and your will to fight for them is absolute.
BIO
Life was never easy, but it was bearable and enjoyable with his family. As a child, his parents taught him the importance of respecting authority even though those in the positions of authority looked down upon his family. Why did a single person, corrupt or otherwise, have so much power over many? He never quite understood that, but it was something that would stay with him. The age of curiosity passed and with his own family, there were more pressing things than to call that into question. He was content with living a quiet life.
But fate wasn’t going to grant him a quiet life. While he and his wife nearly lost their lives when the Foundation fell, their son was not as lucky. While a new city was built, they could not rebuild their relationship. It wasn’t for lack of trying, but the void of their missing son and his refusal to talk about the events made it clear that they wouldn’t be able to survive together on memories of ghosts. It was a simple understanding. They would always share their past love and grief but not share their futures. Alone, Dojin embraced his connection to the earth, to feel its energy and warmth. He focused on protecting others, busying himself with training and venturing beyond the city to tackle threats. It was a good way of keeping himself occupied, as it kept him out of faction politics. Fate would deal him another blow many years later when his wife died in an accident just outside the city walls.
The factions had little appeal to him, as he had no interest in being told what and how to think. As time wore on, those at the top appeared to him to have lost their true purpose and had become blinded. He’d seen enough of human nature to know that those at the top likely enjoyed their power and would do what they could to seek more. As such, The Mason had never quite settled well with Dojin. There was something about one person holding so much power and sway, despite putting on the guise of staying out of things. No one truly steps away from something they created. But he kept that to himself.
The Mason’s death was surprising, more so because like many others, he thought the constant presence would never go away. Although, if he were to reflect on it, The Mason was as human as the rest of them and death comes to everyone. In his eyes, the aftermath of the event revealed many people’s natures. The power vacuum it created and inevitable spillover it would create. The event reignited something else in his subconscious, his dream. For the first time, he could see a way forward to make it a reality on a large scale. He decided he would do whatever he could to bring a change, balance to the city, as that was the only way to truly have peace. While he would like to see his goal achieved, so long as the idea is planted in enough minds and perhaps someone else to champion the cause, it doesn’t matter if he lives to see it come to fruition. But someone has to set things in motion, and it might as well be him.
CONNECTIONS
priapus ↪ kindred in spirit you understand that it might seem odd to those on the outside looking in as you and priapus sit in quiet conversation, your stoic face an unreadable mask with each word the other speaks but warmth radiating from your core. you have found a kindred spirit in priapus and have no intention of letting others guide where your friendship ends.
astraea ↪ curiosity killed the cat you have eyes and you see things. you have been seeing things for longer than most within the realm and you are renowned, but you see in them something to be molded and encouraged. you are not ignorant to the way they might feel about you and you have considered it but it is far more likely you will let it lie dormant unless it is brought up... it doesn't mean you won't continue to train them, either.
geras ↪ a storm raging outside your window those around you see something in the two of you that is similar, and you suppose you can agree, a touch of wisdom and age and a want to protect, but you feel yours is perhaps far more quiet. you cannot fathom having the amount of attention that they do. you two have come together on a few occasions to fight the good fight, as they asked you to help with the corruption in trilane woods once or twice but... is there more?

tw - miscarriage mention; death mention
— BASICS
Name: jackson bennett Age / D.O.B.: 37 / 08.21.1986 Gender, Pronouns & Sexuality: male, he/him, heterosexual Hometown: chicago, illinois Affiliation: law enforcement - corrupt Job position: detective Education: high school, chicago police training academy Relationship status: widowed Children: none Positive traits: adaptable, ambitious, astute, dauntless, punctual Negative traits: selfish, manipulative, cynical, irascible, nefarious
— BIOGRAPHY
Right from childhood, becoming a police officer was an ambition for Jackson, and there was nothing that could stop him from achieving it. He studied hard at school, did well at sports and the stubbornness he possessed meant he got in the academy at his first attempt, aged eighteen.
His dream didn't stop at that, he wanted to be a detective and clean the streets from serious criminals and it was no surprise that by the age of twenty-three he was in plainclothes. He was living his dream, a good job and a beautiful fiancé to go home to. Life in Chicago was treating him well, but when his fiancé had to relocate to New York to be closer to family and seek better job opportunities he couldn't let her go, so both of them decided the start of a family of their own would be there.
A few years later, at twenty-seven, Jackson was officially a husband, although on the children side, the couple wasn't so lucky. They tried several times thought the years — three pregnancies, but unfortunately all resulted in miscarriages. Those were some pretty dark times for both, and they came to terms that having children of their own wouldn't happen. He didn't want to go through another miscarriage, he saw the toll it took on his wife. Each time the spark in her eyes dulling more. It took them a while to get back on their feet, but they did and they were planning on adoption or surrogate, but oh how life liked to playout.
Dealing with criminals wasn't easy, but dealing with gangs was harder. One way or the other it creates a target on your back, and when you weren't willing to budge they found ways to make you. They took her — they took the only person that mattered so much to him, and they promised they wouldn't hurt her, but criminals often don't keep their promises. He was the done that found his wife's lifeless body, he was the one that informed her family, he was left to suffer — at the age of thirty-two he was a widower.
Now at thirty-seven he didn't care much about rules and following the law. Justice and law didn't help his wife, and now with his heart covered in ice, he didn't care much about being the good guy.
— WANTED CONNECTIONS / PLOTS
▢ in-laws - a brother, cousin, sister anything to his late wife who most likely blames jackson for her death. angsty thingies.
▢ rebound/one night stand (or a few times) - after giving himself time to grief jackson finally went back 'on the market', but he definitely wasn't ready for anything serious. maybe your muse thought it was, so you know - angsty thingies.
▢ best friend - a close friend to both him and his late wife, probably the first person in their inner circle when they moved in nyc. both helped each other through the loss.

BIOGRAPHY
trigger warning: homophobia, firework incident, burn out.
Andrew grew up in a family of five sons. He’s born as the fourth son, a few minutes before his twin brother. They were all born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland until the family decided to move to Kismet Harbor, where his father hailed from. Andrew was very well behaved and aimed to please his parents, doing so by doing good at school, having the right kind of friends and doing some extracurricular work. He was a popular kid in school, which definitely helped with his self esteem. Andrew always had an affinity for building and tinkering but surprised his parents when he studied healthcare in the university of Edinburgh, also to be closer acquainted to his heritage. He eventually switched his studies to become a physiotherapist, after his mother had an injury that limited her movement. He became fascinated by the ways of reducing the limitations and decided to make a living out of it.
Him and his twin-brother always joked about starting a contractor business as they were both handy and would often build things together. He got married at the age of thirty-one. Marriage was never in the cards for him because it never felt right, but after the pressure of his parents he succumbed and proposed to his then girlfriend. They got married and moved to the next village over.It took him a few years of marriage to begin to realise why he never had the complete sense of experience in his relationship, or any of them for that matter, when he hooked up with a man when on a work trip to New York.
He decided not to tell his wife the full extent of what had happened, but was ambushed when his wife set him down to have the talk about whether they should start having kids. At that moment he felt like the harsher he was, the more angry she could get at him without feeling any sense of embarrassment herself. Frankly also to protect his own. He told her that he wanted to end their marriage because he had come to realise his feelings for her were gone and he had always been one foot in the marriage anyway. They split up and Andrew moved back into the neighbouring village of Kismet Harbor.
Since separating from Nazli, Andrew ended up experiencing life as hectic. Telling the truth to his family ended up in fracturing his relationship with his father who had no open mind to same sex relationships and cast him out. His divorce with Nazi was messy as he eventually had to explain why he denied her attempts reconciliation for the truth, which led her to accept their divorce, but not without the process of hurting her feelings even more. Andrew learned to love himself more when he found on the receiving end of love by the hands of Roman Rhodes, of whom he took care after he got injured at the firework incident of the July 4th 2023 event, the same event that injured his father and month later resulted in his passing. After a rough period in his life, Andrew had decided to spend his time recuperating wisely and reviving his father’s construction company: Jackson Construction.
Andrew believed to have had it all, the man, the job, a loving village. Yet when he engaged a conversation about marrying and having children with Roman, he panicked. The easiest thing would have been to be ignorant and keep quiet, but he didn’t want Roman to sacrifice his happiness for him, and children just wasn’t part of the plan. He broke up with Roman, doing the same as he had done to Nazli and lied, even claiming that he wasn’t happy at the farm knowing that Roman would never give it up. It was shocking just how easily Roman believed him and with a heavy heart he left the love of his life behind. In order to keep his hands busy, he went back to work as a part time physical therapist again. Yet Andrew couldn’t get away, couldn’t find the escape that he needed that didn’t confront him with his reality. Per his twin’s suggestion, he left town. A hiking retreat with a spiritual ending in Nepal where he was cut off from technology for a few months, other than a few allowed hours per week to make a phone call. Andrew managed to get back in touch with himself, finding his distractions in more than one way. He dreaded the end of the retreat, but when he sat on the plane back on his way home, he felt rejuvenated, more focused. He returned home with the prospect of his twin soon to become a father, his company thriving and a place to call his own.

An Analysis of Endeavor’s Character in Chapter 291
Okay, okay.
I have no illusions that I can instantly dispel all of the inane stupidity arising from the muck of this fandom as of right now, but I will do my best.
First, we must cover what was actually conveyed with the chapter.
a) Touya initially had fairly positive feelings towards his father.
b) Endeavor was unsatisfied with the fact that Touya only had the fire aspect of his quirk. He wanted the full package, and Rei agreed, albeit for different reasons. Rei seemed to have relented to the idea have having another child due to the fact that she wanted the two children to support and encourage each other.
c) Fuyumi ended up only having an ice quirk, but Endeavor was still fairly satisfied with that, as Touya had already displayed greater fire power than his own; thus he left all of his hopes and ambitions into Touya.
d) Immediately after trying the ultimate move, Touya burned himself, thus signifying that he had an inherent weakness to his quirk that Endeavor didn’t.
e) Endeavor believes, now in the future, that had Touya turned out not to be a “failure” and his ambition had been achieved from that early on, he would have dispelled his uglier traits from the get-go. Now, we must dispel with some basic assumptions.
Now then, time to engage in critical analysis. We know, as a fairly obvious fact, that Endeavor’s marriage with Rei wasn’t really a consensual one. He essentially bought her from her family using his wealth and prestige: something, that while utterly repulsive, isn’t really that unusual even in our world. What, do you think all rich and powerful people marry out of love and compassion?
We also know that Endeavor had somewhat of an amicable relationship with himself and Touya, for what is likely two reasons: firstly, this was still very early in Endeavor’s life, both as a hero and as a parent. Remember that Touya is probably in his mid 20s and that Endeavor is currently 46. Thus, Endeavor was likely in his early 20s when he first become a parent. Secondly, Endeavor saw Touya as someone that was a success to his ultimate plans. Yes, while he didn’t have both fire and ice, he did have a fire quirk that was much more powerful than his. Thus, from Endeavor’s point of view, he had pretty much succeeded at creating something that was stronger than himself, which likely lessened some of his internal angst and the such.
Even though he did attempt to have another child, he wasn’t overly upset with the fact that Fuyumi didn’t have both fire and ice. After all, he had already achieved something with Touya.
This, of course, all came crashing down as soon as Endeavor realized that Touya was a ‘failure,’ someone whose quirk literally didn’t fit with his own body. This was likely the turning point as to when Endeavor began pushing Touya even further during training, with Touya all the while feeling like a worthless failure for disappointing his father. Endeavor would likely also take this as a cue to keep having more children.
Finally, I want to dispel some myths. There are some people who seem to think that Endeavor is being portrayed as being somewhat of a “good person” or “good father” in the flashback in this chapter. Firstly, just because someone doesn’t act insanely evil does not mean that they are “good.” It is self evident that Endeavor still had his goal of training a more powerful successor at this point. The difference in personality between Touya’s early training and Shoto’s training can be largely put to a difference in age as well as the fact that Touya seemed actively engaged in Endeavor’s training, while Shoto very much did not.
Additionally, Endeavor isn’t even that nice or amicable to Touya in this chapter. The only act of kindness he even conceivably gives to Touya is his smile, which can frankly mean a whole lot of things.
And no, Endeavor wasn’t just okay with Fuyumi being born only having an ice quirk because he was that much of a better person. It is blatantly explained in the very next panel that Endeavor was ‘fine’ with this development because he had already put all of his ambitions into Touya.
Lastly, Endeavor has a thought that if Touya had turned out to be everything he wanted, Endeavor likely would have eventually relinquished his darker personality traits. Whether you like it or not, this is absolutely true. If Endeavor’s first child had indeed turned out to be what he had always been looking for, it is totally understandable that Endeavor would have mellowed out further. Now, this obviously would not have been an ideal situation- after all, Endeavor still financially coerced his wife’s family into a marriage. Still, Rei at this point seemed, if not jubilant about her situation, at least willing enough to tolerate the whims of her family and make Touya as supported as possible. That said, Touya achieving Endeavor’s ambitions still would not have dealt with the underlying flaws in Endeavor’s perception of his children in the way the canon route has led himself to. However, it is undeniably the case that the failure of Touya in Endeavor’s eyes led to the situation spiraling further and further into darkness.
At the end of the day, we need to move on from these petty frameworks that box people into “good” and “bad.” Just because Endeavor was a bad person does not mean that he was always a wife-beating, child-abusing asshole. As this chapter has displayed, while Endeavor’s mood and general sense of contentment did change from his earlier years with Touya to his later years with Shoto, the underlying core of Endeavor’s driving goal did not change at all. He was simply more satisfied with his progress towards this goal with early Touya than with Shoto. That is all.

Max Goodwin and Randall Pearson: The Well-Meaning, Incredibly Self-Centered Leading Men We’ve Grown to Love.
Hey fam! Like I said, I’ve been writing a ton of meta lately and this is another one that’s just been sitting in my drafts. It’s basically a This Is Us and a New Amsterdam meta which is something I haven’t done before but something I want do more of. In my Game of Thrones days I used to write a lot of meta about shows and characters that had similarities so this is fun for me. I hope y’all enjoy this. ALSO THIS HAS SPOILERS FOR BOTH SHOWS!!!!!!!
Without a doubt the two most popular shows on NBC is This is Us and New Amsterdam. And what’s not to love? They’re both emotionally driven, heartfelt, shows that focus on incredibly deep and complex topics. Though one show focuses on family dynamics and the other focuses on the healthcare system, these shows are very similar in more ways than one. Case in point, Max Goodwin and Randall Pearson. The more I watch these two shows, the more I realize how these two characters are so alike!!! These two men are kind-hearted, well intentioned, individuals who genuinely want to make some sort of positive difference. They are incredibly ambitious and always have “bright ideas” and “goals” they want to accomplish and somehow they’re able to meet those goals without ever having to sacrifice their wants and needs. By every definition these men are the “main characters” or the ultimate “protagonists.” These are the folks that we are supposed to root for. At the same time, though these men have many traits to be admired, when you truly look at it both of them can be incredibly self centered and selfish especially when it pertains to their romantic partners and love interests. No matter how appealing you make these characters out to be these men clearly fall under the Behind Every Great Man trope.
The Behind Every Great Man trope has been used countless of times throughout Cinema and TV History that I’m sure that I don’t even have to explain it to you but for the sake of this meta this is how it’s defined.
“Behind Every Great Man...stands an even greater woman! Or in about a hundred variations is a Stock Phrase referring to how people rarely achieve greatness without support structures that go generally unappreciated, and said support structure is a traditionally female role via being the wife, mother, or sometimes another relation. This trope is specifically about a man who is credited with something important, but owes much of his success to the woman in his life.”
This trope usually has a negative connotation (and rightfully so) because the man who often benefits from this is an asshole and unworthy of this type of support!
For example:
Oliva and Fitz
Cristina Yang and Burke
Cookie and Lucious
Ghost and Tasha
There are countless others but these are a few of the couples that come to mind for me. Randall and Max aren’t comparable to any of these men that are listed above but they are still operating under the same trope. It just looks nicer because Max and Randall are inherently good and inspirational. They are the heroes of the story. I would even argue and say that both men fall under the Chronic Hero Syndrome trope which is defined as
“Chronic Hero Syndrome is an "affliction" of cleaner heroes where for them, every wrong within earshot must be righted, and everyone in need must be helped, preferably by Our Hero themself. While certainly admirable, this may have a few negative side-effects on the hero and those around them. Such heroes could wear themselves out in their attempts to help everyone or become distraught and blame themselves for the one time that they're unable to save the day. Spending so much time and effort saving everyone else can also put a strain on the hero's personal or dating life.”
Just because Max and Randall have these incredibly inspiring aspirations, is it fair that their wives and love interests are always expected to rise to the occasion and support them. Is it ok for their partners to continuously sacrifice their wants and needs because they love these men?
Let’s dive into it.
Truth be told, Beth Pearson, Helen Sharpe and Georgia Goodwin had to endure a GREAT DEAL to emotionally support the dreams and aspirations of these men while sacrificing so much of themselves in the process. In media we often see women sacrificing so much of their wants and needs out of love for these male leads and rarely do men do the same thing for their romantic partners and love interests. All three of these women clearly fall under the Act of True Love trope defined as
“The Act of True Love proves beyond doubt that you are ready to put your loved one's interests before your own, that you are truly loyal and devoted to them. Usually this involves a sacrifice on your part, at the very least a considerable effort and/or a great risk. The action must be motivated, not by morals or principle or expectation of future reward, but by sheer personal affection. When your beloved is in dire need of your help, or in great danger, and you do something, at great expense to yourself, for the sake of their safety, their welfare, or their happiness, thus proving beyond any doubt that you put their interest ahead of yours.”
Over the past few seasons we have seen all three of these women truly live up to this trope without any true consequences or accountability from the men they’re making all these sacrifices for. For example, in Beth and Randall’s marriage, how many times did Randall spring an idea on Beth without truly talking to her or considering her wants first? Everyone thinks these two are an ideal couple but she has endured A LOT for Randall.
Randall has spontaneously quit his job, moved his dying biological dad into their home, bought his biological dad’s old apartment building, fostered and adopted a child and also ran for city councilman outside of his district. In all of these decisions, Randall “consulted” Beth about it but at the same time didn’t really consult her. In a way there has always been this expectation of Beth to just go along for the ride with what Randall wants. Is anyone else exhausted from reading that list?! That’s a lot for partner to endure and lovingly support. But Beth has endured and has been Randall’s rock through it all!!! What worries me is that the one time Beth spoke out about her wants and needs of pursuing dance again, he couldn’t match the same energy she was giving him and eventually it led to world war three between them. Though things are looking up in their relationship and he’s starting to support her more, has Randall nearly given to Beth as much as she’s given to him? Absolutely not!
Similar to Randall, Max also had a wife who was a dancer. in fact, she was a prima ballerina. Unlike Randall and Beth, Max relationship with Georgia was rocky from the start. When we were first introduced to them Max and Georgia were separated and rightfully so. Georgia was never Max’s first priority. The hospital always came first in their relationship. He couldn’t even dedicate a full night to her for their proposal. In order to “save” their marriage they decide to have a baby and they both committed to taking a step back in their careers in order to do so. The problem was Max didn’t keep his side of their commitment and took a job to become the medical director at the biggest public hospital in the U.S. She gave up her career to start a family and he totally and completely betrayed her trust. So throughout season one we see them trying to rebuild their marriage but even in the midst of trying to rebuild a marriage based on trust and mutual respect Max still keeps things from Georgia. For several episodes he didn’t tell her that he had advance stages of throat cancer. He only told her when Georgia asked him to move back home. That’s fucked up! Then throughout their pregnancy he was never fully there for Georgia because he was either to preoccupied with the hospital or himself. At the end of it all, Georgia died tragically at the beginning of season two and really had nothing to show for it in her relationship with Max other than her daughter Luna.
Now let’s bring Helen Sharpe into the fold. While all of this stuff was going on with Max and his wife in season one, Max was developing a deep friendship, borderline emotional affair with Helen. Their relationship started out with Helen being his oncologist. As the new Medical Director of New Amsterdam, he swore Helen to secrecy about his diagnosis so that he could still run the hospital. Through that secrecy they eventually formed a deep bond but as his cancer got worse his secret was let out of the bag. He realistically needed someone to step up and run the hospital when he was going through chemo and though Helen already had commitments she stepped up and became his deputy medical director. Somewhere along the lines Max and Helen started developing feelings for each other. As Helen becomes aware of those feelings, she made a choice and decides to remove herself as Max’s doctor. He BITCHES about it but eventually accepts the boundary she’s clearly trying to set. Mind you, as this is unfolding, like Max, Helen is also in a new relationship with her boyfriend Panthaki. As Max’s cancer seems to be getting worse with his new doctor, she goes back on her boundary and decides to be his doctor again. This pisses her boyfriend off because he could already peep the vibe between them and he breaks up with her. When we get into season two, Max’s wife died and Helen set him up in a clinical trail (with a doctor she previously fired) that’s helping his cancer. Unbeknownst to Max, this doctor ends up holding his life saving treatment plan over Helen’s head and in order for his treatment to continue she gives this doctor half of her department!
Helen has sacrificed a lot for Max and now in season three she’s finally prioritizing her current wants and needs first! Like Randall, Max is starting to turn a page and is starting to support Helen and truly listen to the wants and needs that she has. All of this is good but my question is did any of these women have to sacrifice so much for the men in their lives to get a clue?
Why is it that this is a trope we see in media time and time and time again? Even if these men are good, why don’t we still keep these male characters accountable when they put their significant others in these situations that are clearly not fair? I’ve watched countless tv shows and I’ve seen a lot of tv couples but I think I have only come across one couple where the male counterpart has selflessly loved his significant other and has always put her needs above his own.
That character my friend is none other than PACEY WITTER
I might be mistaken but I think Joey and Pacey are the most popular ship in tv history and honestly, rightfully so! This is only example I can think of where the male in the relationship so willingly puts the wants and needs of his partner first. It is a completely selfless and sacrificial love. He never wants to hold her back and he never asks her to compromise her wants or needs for him. That’s why I think so many women love Pacey because in a sea of TV relationships, Pacey Witter is a fucking unicorn.
So to wrap this up does this mean that I hate Randall Pearson or Max Goodwin? No! I adore them. I love both of their characters so much. I just think that when we see the media continuously play out the sacrificial wife/love interest for the sake of their male counterparts, it should be called out. I’m all about sacrificial and selfless love but it should come from both sides.❤️❤️❤️
Anyway I hope y’all enjoy this! As always my DMs are opening here or on Twitter @oyindaodewale

Thoughts on Aro. Becuase why not 😂
Thank you for the ask 💕
Bear in mind this post is about canon Aro. If I’m to mention any headcanons/imagines, it’s surely implied in the text.
These are only a few, as I have too many!
I’m so pissed when someone presents Aro as entirely evil person. He was supposed to be the villain of the story (as all of the Volturi), and instead, the only feeling I have for his canon character is pity and sorrow. Had he done some questionable things throughout the centuries? Yes. Were all these things needed to maintain power? Probably not. Can you see the queue lining up for the position that Aro occupies? I don't believe so. Maybe the Romanians are here for that, but only because they were once on top and wielded power. I cannot find a single person in the entire saga who’d like to be on Aro’s place. And, honestly, I’m not sure if there’s anyone there who’d have the nerve to rule over vampire world for so long. I have eternal respect for him. Wielding power, especially wielding power for such a long time, requires certain features and Aro has them. Even though I headcanon that he wouldn’t have killed his own sister for power, I can picture him doing it. It signifies he’s capable of everything to maintain the power he possesses. Maybe it’s not the best way of showing, in the grand scheme of things, a positive trait, but it was effective and plausible. What I mean by all of this, is that I don’t think he’s evil in the core. Remember when it was said that he came back for Didyme, because he didn’t picture himself in eternity without her? It tells A LOT about his character, I’d say even more than the fact that he canonically killed her. He values family and cares about his own, even though he never puts it bluntly. I think he’s the character who had done a lot of terrible things to achieve positive results, and, after all, it worked.
By now, after so many centuries, after three fucking millenia, I think he became kind of a freak and I’m adamant he’s in need of therapy. But, girl, I’d be too after so much shit he’s been through and after so many things he had seen. Seeing Edward’s mind only was sufficient to push him closer to madness and I always have in mind that he had probably seen too many of such minds after he became the Volturi leader (and frankly before it happened).
He seems a little weird and out of place, but I’m not really surprised here. He’s over three thousand years old, he needs to have his quirks. But I see him as fairly pleasurable company to spend time with - we can see he loves to talk and discuss things, he also enjoys attention, so I think he’d be a great buddy to talk about anything you have in mind. All in all, who could understand you better, than the guy who knows all of your thoughts and memories?
I’m sad that his friendship (or anything this relationship was) with Carlisle wasn’t explored in the saga. I think, even taking into account so many differences between them, that they are great friends with extreme respect for one another. I also think Aro has the same pull towards knowledge, just as Carlisle.
I don’t know why, but I feel he’s really affectionate towards Sulpicia. I don’t think it’s love that brought them together (as we know Aro chose her because he decided he needed a wife) but I think she’s one of his most faithful allies and most devoted friends, a great confidante and I’m sure he respects her beyond anything.
Everything he does has some kind of purpose behind it. I think he reconsiders many things, before deciding on anything. He’s generally prudent and careful, and I believe he isn’t driven by emotions, in juxtaposition to in example Caius’s behavior.

Character Analyst of Ozai by Villains Wiki
"After all these years, I can finally see you, Ozai. You're just a small, small man trying with all your might to be big. Your heart is so small, you've no room for your son, or your daughter, or your brother... or even yourself. Goodbye, Ozai.„~ Ursa confronts Ozai about his true nature after she had enough of his tyranny.
“I finally have you, but I can't get you home because of this blizzard. (*Stands up and looks outside the cave*) There's always something. Not that you would understand. You're like my sister. Everything always came easy to her. She's a firebending prodigy, and everyone adores her. My father says she was born lucky. He says I was lucky to be born. I don't need luck, though. I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me who I am.„~ Zuko describes his relationship with his father, Ozai, to Aang in comparison to his father's relationship with his sister, Azula, though Aang did not hear him.
Ozai was tyrannical, cruel, manipulative, sadistic, ruthless, blasphemous, duplicitous, harsh-tempered, arrogant, vengeful, greedy, domineering and insatiably power-hungry. He exhibited these traits from an early age, and Iroh noted that they stemmed from a deep-seated pathological psychology. According to him, Ozai lacked empathy, was "not the understanding type", and did never regret, forgive, or change his mind about anything. Believing morality to be a sign of weakness, Ozai found peace and kindness laughable concepts and despised those who followed moral principles. As such, he possessed little to no empathy and rarely showed any interest in the feelings of others.
This behavior was strongly influenced by his obsession with control and in order to achieve total control over the Fire Nation, Ozai was even willing to sacrifice his own family. When ordered by Azulon to kill Zuko so that he would know the pain of losing a son, Ozai admitted to Zuko that he would have gladly carried out the murder had Ursa not interfered. Eventually, he murdered his own father in order to usurp his brother's birthright and become Fire Lord. Similarly, he did not hesitate to sacrifice his subordinates if that meant he would obtain more power. As a result, Ozai supported the idea of sacrificing new recruits to defeat a powerful Earth Kingdom battalion so he could get closer to controlling Ba Sing Se. Likewise, he decided to use the power of Sozin's Comet to destroy the Earth Kingdom without standing still with the human loss that would mean. Despite that, Ozai did believe that a Fire Lord's duty was to protect his people, though he reasoned that was because they were extensions of his divine will as Fire Lord; by attacking them, an opponent attacked him. The ultimate expression of his obsession with control was his aspiration in life to conquer the entire world.
Nevertheless, in his younger years, Ozai showed limited care and compassion for his own family. Despite their strained relationship, Ozai and Iroh were closer while they were still in school, though the latter distanced himself from his brother when he realized that he had a "heart of ice". When Ursa begged him to spare her former lover, Ozai complied to the request after being called "my love" by his future wife. When he planned to cast his infant son from the palace, Ozai gave in after Ursa and the Fire Sages pleaded with him to give Zuko a chance. Ozai believed that he attempted to be a good father in his early years, a view shared by both Zuko and Azula. However, his pride, anger, and lust for power degraded his relationship with his family. He believed skill and accomplishment determined worth, which allowed the naturally cruel, cunning and talented Azula to rise to the position of his favorite child, while he ignored or psychologically abused Zuko. He had no qualms about making Zuko's life miserable just to get back at Ursa for snapping at him that she wished that Zuko was Ikem's son, rather than his. While his relationship with Zuko had always been tense, thenceforth Ozai began to torture Zuko with his perceived inferiority, saying that Azula was "born lucky", while he was "lucky to be born". After his wife's banishment, he continued to be psychologically abusive toward both of his children and physically abusive toward his son. When Zuko was thirteen, Ozai burned his face and banished him from his country, simply because Zuko spoke out of turn during a war meeting, an action for which he never showed any remorse and merely claimed it to have been a lesson in respect. He only acknowledged Zuko when he helped his sister conquer Ba Sing Se and when he "killed" the Avatar. Eventually, Ozai attempted to kill Zuko when the latter announced his intent to join the Avatar, thereby defying his father. On the other hand, Ozai raised Azula to become his future heir, expecting nothing less than the best from her, which placed a great amount of stress on her and forced her to become a perfectionist. Ultimately, it was the environment in which Ozai raised Azula, where fear, intelligence, tyranny, destruction, power and perfection were the only reliable truths, that set the groundwork for her total mental collapse.
However, despite his behavior toward his children, Ozai appeared to be remarkably forgiving of failure for certain people, such as War Minister Qin and Zhao, who retained their positions and, in Zhao's case, was repeatedly promoted, despite repeated failures and bungles. Nonetheless, he saw his subordinates as expendable and replaceable, having no tolerance for those who failed to impress him, such as Kunyo or Vachir.
By the time Ozai crowned himself Phoenix King, he began to exhibit extreme megalomania, claiming to own the Earth and to "have all the power in the world".
"Do you think being Fire Lord is easy?! The throne comes with many pressures, and those pressures will change you! But if you can stand the heat, you'll become something more. Of all the people in the world, I have the wisdom you need, the wisdom of experience! Be honest with yourself, Zuko – Do you really believe you can handle it all on your own?"―Ozai questions Zuko about the challenges of being Fire Lord.
After being stripped of both his bending and his throne, Ozai apparently still retained his domineering personality, as he casually lectured Fire Lord Zuko when he came to visit Ozai in jail. However, he would develop a calmer, more logical attitude toward life as he thought that Aang's belief of maintaining the four separate nations would only halt progress. This is apparently true as Yu Dao, a city that combined the effort from citizens of both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom, grew from a small village to a very developed area. As Zuko sought out Ozai for advice, through their discussions, it was revealed that Ozai believed that good and evil, and even strength and weakness, were meaningless concepts. He believed that the only right and wrong were what he, or more accurately, the Fire Lord, decided, due to his divine right to rule. Any choice he made was the right one, simply by virtue of it being his choice, and that indecisiveness and attempts to guide oneself by moral principles were signs of weakness, traits he despised in Zuko.

tw for abuse, incest and consent issues.
I’m not sure if I’d call this a wide-spread misconception, mainly because it’s not something that Comes Up in casual conversation about the series, but on and off I’ve noticed that people have a specific Attitude about gallerian when it comes to the situation with mira and ma where they view him more in the vein of kaspar. mind you it’s understandable when a big part of the fandom gets their information second/third/etc-hand, but it’s just Very Unfortunate when you lay it out in the context of the novels
so ! the short answer is that ma isn’t a seductress, she’s an abuser. she gave birth to gallerian specifically to use him, and if levia had accepted his body as a vessel he Would have been left to die like nemesis had been. the reason he’d been spared was undoubtedly so he could be used to Create nemesis down the line. I’ve written that in a way that’s easier to swallow, but I need you, the viewer, to understand that ma looked at her baby boy and only kept him alive so that she could fuck him in about 20 years.
there’s more about the situation that’s worth bringing up, but that’s the biggest sticking point for me. gallerian was victimized by ma whether he personally realized it or not, in more ways than one, and I really don’t like how that’s swept under the rug in this specific instance because of common tropes and expectations.
now ! this doesn’t mean that I don’t think that gallerian has any responsibility in this situation at all, cheating on your wife is still Bad, but the situation as a whole was Messy to say the least.
gallerian and mira bonded in the wake of being abused by the same person. mira after facing loki’s controlling aggressive behavior for a long period of time and gallerian after literally facing a traumatizing hate crime. michelle was born when gallerian was 18 meaning he was almost certainly 17 when she was conceived (and mira 18 or 19). they were teenagers who trauma-bonded and accidentally tied themselves to each other for the rest of their lives. they weren’t compatible romantically but they didn’t exactly have a choice.
to put this in perspective, we have to remember that gallerian is half fantasy japanese in what is analogous to 1920′s america, that his direct familial line (his mother) was tried and executed for magic (a genetic trait in evillious), and that gallerian’s entire goal in life had been to uproot the system that was discriminatory against him. the novel goes out of it’s way to show us that the first case where he’d found someone innocent in a witch trial the people in the stands had to be held back by the guards.
he was a minority trying to take one of the most important positions in the country to push an unpopular (if moral) agenda. yes it would’ve been better for the both of them individually if they’d gotten a divorce or if they’d never gotten married in the first place, but in the position that he was in the time period that he was doing so would’ve been risking his career (which in turn would’ve risked the lives of the people who were facing Active Genocide). And mira likely wouldn’t have been much better off.
now those are the general, rancid, vibes, but lets talk about the lead up into the Inciting event.
so, ma abandons gallerian and then comes back into his life while he’s a teenager. she fakes her own death and doesn’t change her appearance At All (beyond hair color) when she meets him again. he doesn’t know that she’s his mother but she’s obviously playing into his trauma while she does this. she aligns herself with the people that saved him and lends a hand to help put loki in jail and out his family as being literal slaveowners.
after making a positive impression, putting herself in a savior position during an extremely traumatic part of gallerian’s life, she helps to put him in a more powerful position politically. in his mind she’s a friend helping him achieve his dreams, in hers she knows he’ll be useful to her in a stronger position.
she watches as gallerian and mira’s relationship deteriorates, their personalities clashing (and gallerian’s poorer background making him more frugal than mira, who grew up wealthy, would like to be). his 20th birthday rolls around and she invites him to eat, she orders him wine and tells him that it’s a present. he’s shocked, he admits that mira had totally forgotten, he opens up about how unhappy he is but that he’s trying to keep the relationship together for his daughter’s sake. she gets him so drunk he can’t even stand on his own.
can I blame gallerian for that first night? no, absolutely not. he wasn’t Lusting after anyone, ma deliberately played on his loneliness and unhappiness to get him drunk enough that he’d agree to it. while he may have continued the relationship after the fact, he Was Not in a position to consent. he has some responsibility yes, but he was groomed by his own mother who’d stayed in his life specifically so she could manipulate him and she chose to do it while he was young enough to see her as an authority figure. I can’t blame him for that. gallerian wasn’t in a position where he would’ve been able to say no, point blank, and I don’t want to think about what would’ve happened to him if he’d tried.
what’s also telling is how bruno responded. he very famously let gallerian get away with a Lot, but he stepped in with ma. he picked up on the fact that she was his mother and specifically confronted her about it, telling her to leave. he saw ma as an aggressor taking advantage of gallerian and frankly he was right.
we never hear about gallerian cheating ever again, but we do see ma coming back into his life to continue manipulating and using him all the way up until his death. I can totally respect people who can’t forgive someone for cheating, but I can’t see gallerian as a cheater or as the ultimately guilty party.

Capricorn Year Ahead Birthday Spread
Starting from the top clockwise, theme in the middle.
1. December 2020- The World- This card usually means you will have a good outcome. You have completed one stage of your life, and now you're moving on to the next. You’re made your goals a reality, and now you want to make new ones. Often you see this card with newlyweds in marriage or someone who started their own business. You will need to get comfortable in your new life. This is a travel card. You may be more involved in issues going on around the world. With the pandemic going on, this meaning may not resonate with most of you but I want to point out that it is a potential interpretation.
2. January 2021-Death- As we move into 2021, you are undergoing a transformation. Perhaps you were warming up to a new life change last month and now you're ready to make that change happen with the death card. Although the name of this card is enough to turn you off, it could mean something as simple as a career or love life metamorphosis. You will be faced with a life changing decision. Sometimes we need endings to move on to something better, so this may not necessarily be a bad thing. Usually this is a dramatic change. You won’t come out of this the same person you were before. Keep in mind this card does have a sinister meaning. This change is going to be drastic. It can mean literal death, but it doesn’t always have to. The best case scenario for your January outcome is that this is the beginning of a blessing in disguise. You will likely feel sad or depressed over these events and should take extra care of yourself. Especially if this is an unwelcome change. This is a Scorpio card, so you may be dealing with one of them.
3. February 2021-The Emperor- This February you are going to achieve a level up in status. You will be an authority figure, or will have an authority figure take you under their wing and pull you up. I feel this has to do with career advancement. This will likely be a male. This is a person you love, that is in a higher social standing than yourself. You will have powerful and stable people around you. It could be in your career, where people see potential in you and want to promote you or invest in you in some way. Remember you don’t know everything. There’s a lot to be learned from this person. No matter how smart or capable we are, we need to enlist help to achieve our goals. If this doesn’t apply to your career, it could be your father, father-figure or husband. This is an Aries card so you are likely dealing with someone of that sign here.
4. March 2021- The Fool- While winter melts away and spring begins to bloom, you will go through yet another transitional period. New beginnings for you this Spring! I feel like you had one stable month in February, and now your back at the drawing board ready to reinvent yourself once again. You will have a burning desire to try something new. In this case I think you should go for it! If you overthink it you’ll only come up with reasons why you shouldn’t. Perhaps you are comfortable in February’s stable situation but you don’t find it rewarding emotionally or spiritually? I feel if you follow your heart's desires, all will go well. However if this is nothing but pure rebellion be mindful of what you’re doing. Don’t just run away from your responsibilities. If you are no longer happy in February’s outcome there is the “right way” and a “wrong way” to leave it. This card can also mean someone else will do the running from you, so keep that in mind. This may be a risk that has no promise of reward, as a Capricorn I’m not sure you will be comfortable with that. You may go through a period of uncharacteristic indecisiveness. On the positive sign I feel you will have a lot of fun this month. You will have a level of enthusiasm and a thirst for life that will help you recover from January. Just don’t let your behavior get too wild. Especially if mental health is a concern for you.
5. April 2021- Four of Pentacles- In April, you are going to be holding on tightly to all you have. This is a card about possessions and possessiveness. You need to pay attention to how much your financial habits and health. In more extreme cases, this could be hoarding behavior. Perhaps all the change you went through in the beginning of the year has made you want to hold on to what you have. However it’s unlikely you will want to share with others. You may be holding onto things that no longer serve you. This doesn’t have to just mean material things, it can be emotions or relationships you’ve outgrown but keep holding onto. In love, you may want your lover all to yourself. You refuse to let them go. This behavior may make you look needy or even worse obsessed. After awhile this behavior may annoy your partner and push them away. If you’ve been supporting a family member, you are no longer going to be footing the bill. You feel like you shouldn’t have to cover their groovy lifestyle. Or it could be vice versa. Assign the roles as you will. This could also indicate a revision of a will or inheritance. However if you have money, you are lucky to be in the position to hoard in the first place. Many are struggling right now and don’t have it as easy. Keep that in mind when you cling to your purse strings. There’s nothing wrong with being frugal, but don’t become cheap. This is your own card, so I feel this is your energy. However it’s possible you could be dealing with a fellow Capricorn.
6. May 2021-Five of Cups- In May you will be hit with a wave of sadness. You may have fallen into self pity and don’t know what your next move will be. This is a shift for you into being more concerned about your personal relationships than you have been for the year so far. This is a break up card. I feel the overbearing behavior from last month will bring your relationship to an end. This is going to be very hard for you to deal with, but rest assured there is someone out there who is better for you. You and this person you're having the break up with weren’t a good match, your personalities weren’t compatible. But you don’t see that yet. Your life is not over by any means, Capricorn. Nonetheless, you are feeling doom and gloom over it. You should seek help for your feelings from a therapist or people who are understanding in your life. Just don’t try to battle this alone. If that doesn’t apply. It could mean a fall out in your career. This will seem bad at first but you will gain valuable experience. Divorce and strained friendships could be at play here. All is not lost here, you will get a second chance after the dust settles. The universe likes people who get back up after being knocked down. This is another Scorpio card.
7. June 2021-Seven of Cups- Halfway through the year you will be faced with decisions. You will be faced with many valid choices, and will have to pick one. To make it even more tricky you will have a time frame to make the decisions. If you don’t make your choice soon you could go from having many options to having none. You will also hear a lot of opinions about it too, everyone in your life is going to give you their two cents. Keep in mind not everyone knows your situation or has your best interest at heart. The work you do this month will dictate what your future looks like. One positive thing about having a lot of options is that you will be living a comfortable lifestyle. However nothing is guaranteed in your future so think about what's best for you down the road. This is yet another Scorpio card!
8. July 2021- Six of Cups- Something or someone from your past is going to reemerge this month. This is the “ex” card. So if you want to get back with your ex-lover this is a welcome sign. If that doesn’t apply to you this is also a family expansion card. A case of childhood nostalgia may resurface because you are dealing with adult responsibilities now. If you want to have a baby this card is a good sign. This card can also mean the house you grew up in, or town. It’s up to you to apply how this would fit into your life. On the negative side, there may be people from your past coming back that you don’t want to see, or old drama coming out when you don’t want it to. Something near and dear to your heart may vanish this month. Watch out, because this could be because you are neglecting the things you care about. This is yet another Scorpio card.
9. August 2021- Queen of Cups- You have a loyal female in your life with strong intuition. She’s sympathetic towards those she loves. This could be your own energy or a female who is close to you like your mother, sister or wife. This person puts others before herself. No matter what she has their back. Sometimes this can be a negative when you're looking at a situation with rose colored glasses. This card can also mean you need to take on the traits of this person. You may not be thinking of the other’s point of view or you're just being down right selfish. You should aspire to be more like the Queen of Cups. How can you be more understanding of other people’s feelings? You may be dealing with someone born on the Gemini-Cancer cusp (June 19-24).
10. September 2021-Ace of Cups- As we roll into September, we see the ace of cups which usually means a sweet and pure love! I believe this could mean the start of a new relationship for you! So expect your love life to be of interest to you this month. However this may not be a long term relationship, but enjoy it while it lasts. This is also a pregnancy card. Specifically the birth of a female child. If this doesn’t apply to you it could be your mother, sister, or someone close to you. This card can also mean a new beginning after a tragic ending. This card also means you will have a lot of dinner dates with friends and family. Hopefully we won’t have to socially distance anymore by then!
11. October 2021-Queen of Swords- With the queen of swords for your October, Halloween hi jinks will be the least of your worries. There will be a female in your business who loves drama and conflict. You may already know who this person is. She just wants to know the news of your life, she does not actually care about you as a person. Beware because this month she will be more involved in your life. This is a period of your year where you are going to feel very lonely. If none of this applies to you, it’s possible you need to adapt the queen of swords mentality. This person is very direct and to the point. I feel you are like this as well Capricorn. Even if she comes across as sort of a, well, bitch- at least others know where they stand with her. She tells it like it is. You may need to stand on your own two feet here and stop relying on others. You’ve got this Capricorn! You may be dealing with someone born on the Virgo-Libra cusp (September 19-24).
12. November 2021- The Chariot- This November will be a month of triumph for you! You will succeed in all of your endeavors this month. You won’t have any competitors. You will have an abundance of energy to make this all happen. However you may step on a few toes to get yourself in a higher status. The chariot can mean that you will use other people to get what you want. You should try to keep this behavior in check. Enjoy your accomplishments, but don’t live off them for too long. If you start to look down on others you will lose their respect. Modesty will benefit you in the long run. If you have a driving test coming up, you will likely ace it! If you are in a position of power watch how you treat your employees. You may be dealing with a Cancer here.
13. Theme of the Year- Seven of Swords- You or someone else in your life is causing trouble this year. Drama and conflict accompany this card. You're surrounding yourself with people who are not loyal to you. When they sell you out, it’s going to leave you feeling hurt and betrayed. You may get the blame for something you didn’t do. This is likely someone who is trying to cover up their own bad behavior. You will become the scapegoat. This person may be you. Consider if you are the type of person who tries to cover up their own bad behavior instead of facing the consequences. In less extreme cases this card can mean self-deception. You may be forcing yourself into believing you are happy with something you aren’t. This will start to affect you emotionally this year. Play your cards close to the chest. Be honest with yourself about what it is you truly want. You may be dealing with an Aquarius in this situation or someone of this sign will have a major impact in your year ahead.

— BIOGRAPHY
( tw: death, mentions of suicide )
It’s hard to get out of a life of crime when you’re born into it. Rus came to learn what the expectations were within the mafia relatively quick. His father was good with technology and his mother was good at breaking things. Bodies, finances, lives- so on and so forth, but Rus never had to worry about any of that. Not until later at least.
No one was surprised when Rus proved himself to be useful within the mafia. It was a family business after all, and he went through the years learning from his mistakes to proving people wrong. He might have seemed the type to be a one-man team, but he had a few select people that he could call ‘friends’. All of which were at the top of their field. All of which had crossed fire with each other since the world is coincidentally small.
His younger brother, Alan, had managed to stay separate from the Ralston traditions. He was an outcast, essentially, but Rus always kept tabs on him. He was still family, after all - the only one he really cared for. He was one of the best hitmen within the family by the time his nephew, Paul, had been born. And though Rus never had any children of his own, he adored his brother’s small family.
Except his brother’s wife, Audrey, wasn’t exactly the doting wife everyone had assumed. See, she had come from a broken home where her father and sister had been taken away from her at the age of four. A gas leak and tragic house fire, the news had said. Audrey and her mother had survived because they ran out before they had inhaled too much smoke. Or that’s what Audrey had always been told.
Audrey’s mother had done everything she could to keep her daughter safe, but her efforts fell short. Suicide was what the news read when Audrey was twelve. Her mother had been so filled with grief from the loss of her husband and other child that she couldn’t take it anymore. That’s what the suicide note read at least. And maybe some of that was true, but not all of it. Audrey’s mother hadn’t been so consumed to take her own life. No, someone came and set it up that way. And Audrey had seen it. She had seen Mrs. Ralston kill her mother and leave the note from where she hid.
So Rus didn’t have to worry about the lives that his mother and father had ruined until the day everything went to shit.
She took and burned everything he loved. His brother and nephew, his 9 to 5, his sense of normalcy. The transition from security to hit for hire happened far too easily. First was a visit paid to those that snuffed the life of his family. Then it was to Audrey herself, sat in his brother’s home, steadfast with expectancy. He was told, right when he breached the front entry, what happened. How the Ralston's had ruined Audrey’s life, and that she was the one that had been consumed by grief and hatred. How she had been planning for this very moment for so long.
And he believed it.
He could tell just from the look in her eyes that she meant everything said. She had hired someone to kill her husband and her very own son; both of whom she supposedly loved dearly. Yet despite the sympathy, he felt at that moment, it wasn’t enough for him to lay down for her to kill. So they fought- both with the desperation to live. And, in the end, Rus barely rose as the victor. He put two bullets into her head and stood there for a while; numb down to the core. His brother’s house was set on fire and he left it to the mob to deal with the aftermath.
From that point on, he was never the same. He vanished from the life held prior. Some said it was because of the grief held by the unfortunate end to his brother and nephew. And other claimed it was because of the alleged disappearance of his sister-in-law. The last remaining factor of the Ralston family aside from himself.
And, well, they were both right to some extent.
He never did get over the memory of his brother and his family. He never got over a lot of things, but that’s just how life was. Whatever happened in the past should stay in the past. Just like how a particular acquaintance of his red-blooded days shouldn’t have sought him out to return an old favor. One that Rus had promised to return twofold when he had been caught in a nasty situation. One that had him return to an all too familiar scene set in a different location. One that just might make New York his final destination in the journey known as his fucking life.
— WANTED CONNECTIONS / PLOTS
Friends ( 0/? ) . Are a very loose concept for him. Always has been, and it might be forever. They’re expendable - everyone is. That isn’t to say that he doesn’t know the value of actual friendship, though. It only takes half an eon to be on friendly terms with him; actual friendly terms.
Unlikely friends ( 0/? ) . Yes, Rus will definitely be annoyed out of his mind, but I’d love to have someone actually click with him. Specifically someone that has a vastly different personality than him.
‘Coworkers’ ( 0/? ). Of the Syndicate. Past, current, future - anyone that had the misfortune of working with this surly dude. But, hey, at least it’s basically guaranteed things will get things done.
Enemies ( 0/? ) . He’s got ‘em, maybe one too many, but at least he’s a formidable opponent.
Captain planet he’s pretty relatable ( 0/? ) . Calling all fellow plant and eco-friendly enthusiasts! While Rus looks like Sam Eagle with the driest personality imaginable, he does have an incredibly soft spot for all things green. Got or need tips about the tricks of a green thumb? Spill ‘em and he’ll actually participate in the conversation.
Found family ( 0/? ) . Again, not the easiest but would be awesome to achieve & have me sob.
Romance ( 1/1 ). Something... something fall in love.

-- CHARACTER --
Name: Doris Purkiss Faceclaim: Naomi Scott Age: 22 Blood Status: Halfblood Affiliation: Neutral Former School & House: Hogwarts, Hufflepuff Occupation: Singer & Waitress at Eclipse
-- BIOGRAPHY --
When Doris was born, she was a beautiful, smiling, happy baby who gurgled and giggled at everyone who held her, reaching up chubby hands to grab noses and hold fingers. Her mother and father were overjoyed, and for many years remained blissfully happy in their family bubble. However, as Doris grew older, she began to act unusually, in her father’s eyes, and her mother soon realised that she would be unable to continue to keep her secret from her husband. The secret being that she was a witch, that their daughter would also be a witch and that she had omitted part of herself from him since the day they had met.
Doris’s father left them, the moment he found out. He was devastated by the betrayal of his wife and soon filed for divorce, unable to stand being in her presence. The arguments through lawyers soon ensued, as Doris at the age of six was brought in and out of the equation. Seeing her parents divorcing and fighting, pushed young Doris to have tantrums, where household objects exploded in her presence. As she had not been trained in magic yet and could not be controlled, eventually her mother took her to St Mungos to be placed on calming potions.
As a teenager, Doris rarely spoke about the nastiness that occurred between her parents or the mediwitches she saw. Those memories live in a dark corner of her memory that she prefers never to venture into. Her relationship with her parents shifted many times over the years, with her father switching from cold and distant, to warm and attentive, and her mother grabbing onto any man who would have her in order to make herself feel better. For Doris, Hogwarts was a welcome relief from a less than desirable home life.
As a student at Hogwarts, she had always been sociable, especially among members of her own house and always preferred company over complete privacy. Academically Doris had never been the best at achieving the high marks, or turning up to the lessons she was scheduled to attend, but she managed to leave Hogwarts with a handful of NEWTs, all above a pass grade. In the end, she pushed herself to prove that she was not the crazy mess that she was perceived to be by some of the classmates and professors, and to show herself that she could do something when she put her mind to it.
Leaving Hogwarts had been terrifying for Doris, as she had dreaded needing to move in with her mother again. Luckily, her grandmother came to her rescue, and gave her enough money to start renting a flat in London, while she acquired a job as a singer at Eclipse. Doris had always dreamed of singing after Hogwarts, and though it is not entirely what she had in mind, she is glad for the income and the experience. Keeping her head down in the crowds, she tries not to notice the shop closures and the dark mood running through the wizarding world as she, like most people, rushes from place to place without stopping much to chat. She does not want to be drawn into a war that could cause her to lose everything she holds dear, but she knows she cannot hold back the inevitable forever.
-- TRAITS --
Negative - Argumentative - Sarcastic Positive + Devoted + Sociable
Doris Purkiss is taken by Melissa.
