Like ants at a picnic, or camels around an Arabs tent, many showed up to eat but did not work out: Crystal and Kids, Sammy D, Ruth Anne, and a bunch of others I'm too blitzed to recall. Over 30 total in attendance.
COOL-DOWN
Wine and Snacks around the picnic table. Several did some kind of mobility WOD.
Notes:
It's a good thing our people brought lots of food because about 30 hungry people and 2 dogs showed up to eat. Tons of Chic fil A, tons of chicken wings.....truly 4 tables of various foods that I can't remember all the stuff or who brought it. The apple pie was especially tasty but Kayla didn't reveal we had Kool-Whip topping until almost too late. Sam reminded everyone at least 20 times that the 3 bags of stale flavored popcorn was courtesy of his financial advising group of which my memory refuses to store the Brand. Odd that Timmy brought it, making me suspect it was gifted to Timmy, and then re-gifted to LHCF. The final disposition of the popcorn was to our bird-feeders who I pray don't choke on it.
There was plenty of wine, except our thirsts exceeded the supply. Birthday Boy Shane colluded with Tom and Kayla for a late foray to the wine cellar. Thankfully Tom selected a Magnum of a very fine GSM that Tom had gifted me in the past. Instagram Kayla did a Duck-Duck-Go search of several other labels she thought looked cute, and thankfully selected a bottle that didn't hurt me too much.
CHarrita / CHaritta has asked for a suspension of her life-time free membership for a whole week. She is going to Mayhem and Power Monkey to coach and play where she has done those things in the past. I wish I had given her a few more LHCF T-shirts so the guys up there would see that she already has a home gym. I hope I learn to correctly spell her name before she returns. Also, she has volunteered to resurrect the Wednesday MOM's (she isn't) workout and COACH it. That caught the ears of several of our Mom's. She would be a really fantastic Coach.
Saturday at 0730 and at 0930.

Hi, Anya!!!! <333 How have you been?
I'm sorry I was silent for so long. :c I got busy and every time I'd try to write you an ask, something would come up. I'm also sick (my allergies are acting up + my period has just started). (* ´ ー`)
But, I've finally watched the barbie movie and also started watching the new Jujutsu Kaisen season. (ง^▿^)ง I managed to watch the first five episodes and I can't wait to watch more. It's understandable why everyone is back in their jjk phase, seeing the characters animated again is great!!! And I really loved the barbie movie, but I won't lie: I knew nothing about it, so I was horrified when the men started being disgusting and embarrassing. (ọvọ)
Ps: Your new theme is so beautiful, I adore it (I love winx and Stella is one of my favourites). <3333
Pps: Mosquitoes are so annoying, if they disappeared I'd be so happy. But the biggest problem in my house are the ants (I'm terrified of them because of childhood trauma). (⁰~⁰) They are always wandering around my room, getting on top of things, there are even some bigger ones with wings that love to be on my ceiling. (-_-)
Ppps: Congratulations on 2.8k!!! (◕ᴗ◕) (you might have reached more than that by the time you read this). You're always reaching so many milestones, I can't keep up, but I'm always proud of you and your works!! ( ŏ̥̥̥̥nŏ̥̥̥̥ )
Pppps: Take as long as you need on your break, Anya. ♡ I hope you enjoy uni and feel better soon!! ୧⍤⃝💐
ᰔᩚ I love you, take care. ᰔᩚ

C & X for Hawks and Bakugou pls!
oh most deff. /masterlist/
Hawks x Reader, Bakugou x Reader-NSFW alphabet
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
C-Cum
He has full intention of breeding you 90% of time so go figure.
One thing he also loves doing, is coating your clit in his cum, smearing it over the puffy nub as it drips down over and around your hole. ///•.•///
He likes when you beg for his seed, it makes him see white and he can't stop himself from fucking pounding into you so he can give every single drop.
As for you, he loves the taste of you, loves the way your juices make a mess on his chin, legs and cock and he's addicted. The time he doesn't lick his fingers clean after fingering you is the time he dies.
X-X-Ray
His cock is fat, around 7 inches and even though he isn't abnormally big, the way he's balls deep into you makes it feel like he's fucking enormous, pushing against your cervix at all times.
He grooms somewhat regularly yet he prefers to have a little hair left on there. Yes it's in messy patterns like his hair and eyebrows.
His chest might be slightly toned taking in the fact that he has to train to remain in shape, yet I think most of his strength is in his wings and arms.
He's fairly slim and his collar bone is prominent, especially when he throws his head back.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
C-Cum
Bakugou is responsible, he will choose to use a condom more often than not even when you're on the pill. Unless you are trying for a kid and have previously talked about it.
He also can't help coating your ass in it or any part of your body for that matter.
He cums buckets and if he could he would bathe you in it.
He likes watching you clench your eyes shot while your tongue is lolled out of your mouth, desperately waiting for him to paint you white.
He caresses your cheek while doing this, angeling his cock perfectly close to you as he gently holds your head in place.
If he's angry, he's cumming down your throat and making you gag on it, pushing it back in your mouth if it dares escape your lips.
X-X-Ray
Even his cock looks angry for God's sake.
It's fat and red, undoubtedly hot to touch with pulsing veins running through it.
He's roughly around 6 and a half inches. You can't tell me this man gives off big pp energy, I won't believe you.
But the way his hips slam into you and bruise your own thighs makes you absolutely forget about length tho.
His balls are large but tight, that's why he walks wierd 😌
He's buffed as fuck, his body can be used to present veins and muscles during anatomy classes.
He also has big legs and abnormally thicc cheeks.
Tease him. Do it. Even mention his tiddies.

The Planetary Prayers of the Hygromanteia
Prayer of Kronos
Eternal God, ungovernable power, you who regulate all for our salvation, give us grace so that I may subdue the terrible planet to my will. I adjure you, Planet Kronos, by your path and your sky, by your inheritance and your heaven, by your shining and your power, and by these names of yours, Gasial, Agounsael, Atasser, Beltoliel, Mentzatzia, to give me grace, force and power in the hour in which you rule.
Prayer of Zeus
Lord and God, all powerful father, creator of the visible and invisible, king of those who rule and lord of those who are lords, give us the power of your grace, so that Zeus may be subject to us, because all is possible for you, Lord. I adjure you, Zeus, by your wisdom and your knowledge, by your curative force and your heavenly course in which you orbit and by these names, Anо̄ph, Orsita, Atnox, Onigeui, Atziniel, Ankanitei, Tyneos, Genier, Kaniptza, to incline your grace in subjection to me in this deed that I am doing.
Prayer of Ares
Fearful God, indescribable God, invisible God, whom no one among men saw or can see, whom the abysses saw and they shuddered, and the animals were killed. Show grace to us, so that we may subject the planet Ares. I adjure you, fiery Ares, by the god who has created the sensible essences and the whole fiery army; I adjure you by your forces and your course, and by your shining and by these names, Outat, Nouēt, Chorēzē, Tiniaē, Dachli, Ampira, Noliem, Siat, Adichaēl, Tzanas, Plēsym, to give me your grace because of this service.
Prayer of Helios
King of those who rule and Lord of those who are lords, the origin that is prior to the beginnings, ever-flowing power, inconceivable light, boundless light, the only provider of wealth, the dispenser of the mercy, observe us through your grace and kindness so that we may be able to subdue Helios, the planet now present and to hold fast his force. I adjure you, untouched, unextinguishable, splendour of the day, Helios, by your temporal cycle, by your four seasons, and by your course, by your rays, by your wings, by your powers and by these your names: Glibiо̄d, Antikon, Lithetioud, Touldо̄rag, Ēmnо̄an; by these names I adjure you; do not disobey me, but through your grace, assist me in this service.
Prayer of Aphrodite
Unique good God, warder of the evil by love of men, you who infinitely posses an inscrutable sea of goodness, besides which is the good heart of friendship, I prostrate myself in front of your love of men, so that you may give us power ánd grace, so that you may give me useful and practicalbe power force [and] this planet, so that I may do these things; I adjure you, very beautiful and sweet Aphrodite, by your grace and your course and your power and your sweetness and by these names, Ēmreth, Labm, Suar, Satēr, Touid, Toutimar, Pesphodо̄n, Sirо̄ph, Kakem, Setiap. By these [names] I adjure you not to disobey me but at least to give me your grace, in order that I may be able to do such-and-such a thing.
Prayer of Hermes
Almighty lord, searcher of wisdom and knowledge, craftsman of heavenly things and of those that are above the heavens, all-seeing and powerful, give us your grace, such as that of the planet Hermes, which you left behind so that we could do such and such: I adjure you, all wise, very learned and intelligent, easily-detected and very wakeful Hermes, by your wisdom and your eloquence and by the sphere in which you walk about, and by these names: Nēphan, Piout, Nomen, Selak, Merepо̄n, Stemēnos, Kazētok, Miо̄t, to incline your grace and power in subjection to me for this deed I want to accomplish.
Prayer of the Moon
Lord, master you who are lord of the living and the dead, you who created man with wisdom so that he might be master of the creatures that came into being through you, with piety and understanding, attend to me, so that I, your slave, may be able to receive the grace and subject the planet Moon and perform the deed I am set upon. I adjure you, Moon, very ripe purple adornment of the sky and relief of the night. I adjure you by your course, and by your renewal and by your unmeasurable steps in which you come down, and by these names, Sabaēl, Boaēl, О̄nitzer, Sparou, Sо̄trērcha, Gabēd, Outoupо̄n, Kaipolēs, Gо̄medēn, Marēbat. By these [names] I adjure you, Moon, to incline your grace and power in this deed that I am undertaking.

Even if you’re not doing the full Hygromanteia ritual with the angels and demons of each planetary hour, these are very powerful prayers for anyone working astrological magic, on par with the Picatrix conjurations and Orphic hymns (I’m especially fascinated by the voces magicae, the barbarous names of power, which suggest a PGM connection). Torijano’s book is an interesting academic study on the character of Solomon and he includes a full translation of the Hygromanteia as an appendix, from which I transcribed the above selection (any errors in it are fully my fault).

I have decided to do a self-insert- 😃😃 Lily is now part of the Genshin world-
If ya’ll are interested in her backstory, pls continue- but if u aren’t, its okay- :pp i just want to share it-
(I also decided to edit the Yatagarasu a bit :pp bc i only know abt it thru ace attorney: miles investigations- ya know, Kay? So imma center it abt that-)
So I was planning to make Lily a Yatagarasu, i’ve heard that he was a great thief in Japan (idk if this is tru- cause when i look it up- it showed a three-legged crow-) or in this case Inazuma- and I also want her to have some connections with Cecilia (ya’ll remember her right-?). So this is what I have in mind-
Lily was born in Inazuma, in a rich, powerful family. Her parents were actually ppl that do experiments on children, one of this was Aura (or, as we all know, Cecilia). Lily was never aware of this fact however, since she views her parents as idols. She has two older brothers, of whom she loved dearly.
Her parents weren’t home much so she usually spends time inside her room or with her brothers and servants. Her life was practically perfect until-
Lily was curious on what her parents do so she followed them one day. You can imagine her horror when she found out- her parents soon discovered that their youngest child followed them. Knowing that she would tell everyone, they promptly banished her from Inazuma.
[I also have smth in mind abt banishment. Since her parents are powerful, they must know spells, right? What if they make an enchantment on her that makes her unable to return to Inazuma? Like tatoos. They’ll burn in her skin if she ever gets too close to Inazuma. Just a thought- 👀]
Lily, now frightened and alone, was scared. She didn’t know where to go. So she wandered in the wilderness, gaining injuries and bruises along the way. She only ate what she could. It isn’t until she stumbled upon a village (im not sure abt this part actually but lets wing it-)
The villagers (mINEcRAfT-) took pity on Lily and an elder took her in. There she slowly healed. And its also there where she learned how to fight. Since this villagers were known for their stealth (or ninja) background, they decided to teach it to Lily.
Lily slowly mastered their techniques and such. She learned how to use a polearm (yes, i like polearms- fite me-) and slowly became a master. Through trials and errors of course. She left Inazuma when she was around 5-6, and she arrived at this village when she was around 7 (so she wandered for 1-2 years-). She stayed in the village until she was around 12 or 13 years old.
Her life was completely normal, until a fire broke out and wiped everyone in the village. Everyone but Lily. Devastated, she fled once more. But she now carries the knowledge of the techniques that the village has taught her.
She wandered around once more before arriving to Liyue Harbor (i actually dont know where Inazuma is located but lets just roll with it-). There, she saw how ppl behave. And saw how ppl is having a hard time with money, poverty in short.
Ever since she was young, she was told of the great thief Yatagarasu, who would often steal something and return it. No one knew about their true intent. Then they revealed that their only goal was seeking the “Truth”. After saying that, they took down the malicious ruler (at that era) and made Inazuma a paradise once more. (I’m not sure abt this- hshsh-)
Ever since then, tales about the Yatagarasu has been passed down from generations to generations. Lily always wanted to be like them, to be someone that is fighting for justice and freedom. So, she decided to become the second generation of the Yatagarasu.
Instead of doing what the tale said, she decided to be like Robin Hood and steal from the rich and give it to the poor. Ofc, since she was young and albeit clumsy, she was caught multiple of times. But she was always let out, free of charges. This is bc of Ningguang, who gain a deep respect towards Lily for her actions (i believe she would respect those who wants to help the poor since i read that she suffered from poverty as well-).
News started spreading abt the Yatagarasu, who steals in the night and vanishes in the morning. It spread like wildfire abt the sudden appearance of the Yatagarasu. Lily continued her actions, believing what she’s doing is good. As much time goes on, she soon became a master of stealing things from ppl.
But soon, the ppl in Liyue Harbor protested. They wanted the Yatagarasu to disappear. As much as Ningguang wants her to stay (she pities Lily-), she had no choice but to send her away. Even tho the ppl want to know the identity of the Yatagarasu, Ningguang kept it a secret and manages to calm the ppl in Liyue Harbor.
Now on the run once more, Lily continued to flee (she continued to ran for days-) until she reaches a mansion near the river. Starving, she took some grapes but was caught by a man. This man was none other than the mansion’s owner, Diluc. Diluc noticed her immediately and ask her where she came from.
“Inazuma. But I was banished.” She simply answered. Diluc noticed how thin and frail she look, having not eaten anything ever since she run away from Liyue Harbor (imagine that long trek- yikes-). Diluc decided to take pity on this girl and offered her a place to stay in the mansion, only for a while. In which Lily immediately accepts.
Diluc gave her food and some new clothes. (Her current design is albeit similar to his actually- just wanna point it out bc i want to draw her after this- 🤧) Lily’s pale skin began to glow and the light in her eyes came back. Diluc soon discovers her ninja-like skills when she was trying to reach for the cookies in the cupboards above-
He decided to let her stay in the Dawn Winery, making her his assistant or smth. So now, Diluc has a girl who’s following around, even in Angel’s Share. Many rumors started spreading abt the sudden appearance of Lily and the sudden disappearance of money for the rich ones-
Afterall, the tale of the Yatagarasu continues on- even if she’s not seeking the truth. (Diluc knows abt her Yatagarasu identity btw- 🤧🤧 he basically becomes her older brother-)
She doesn’t have a vision btw, i’m planning on giving her a vision thru the story- 👀 i’m still debating whether or not she’s an Anemo or a Pyro-

The Red Hoods Protègè chapter 4
Older Damian Wayne x ofc
(Photo made by my lovely friend @bakketsux)
Summary:Red hood has taken a young vigilante under his wing and subsequently changes Damians life forever. (I suck at summary’s)
A/N: I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the story, but with what is happening with our world/country I want to put this out for you all. Times are tough and our world is in need of more love. I want everyone to feel and give out as much love as they can to even those who don’t love you. Please if are able to text ‘FLOYD’ to 55156.
As Jason and angel get to their apartment and climb the many steps, they have a comfortable silence over the both of them. Jason goes and unlocks the front door with his key and they both walk in and take their masks off. Angel taking off the hood that is secure to her head along with her domino mask that Jason gave to her.
The smell of food from what they assume to be from Roy filling the small apartment. They both walk into the kitchen to see a pizza box on the counter with a note attached. ‘Since you guys will be in late.’ Both grab a piece and start eating in the empty room with nothing but the moon coming from the widows to light the room.
“Hey after I’m done I’m gonna hop in the shower okay.” “Okay little one.” “You know I’m not that much younger than you.” She says with a laugh. “But are you still younger than me?” “Yes..” “then you’re my little one, little one.”
He starts to chuckle as she goes to her room to change out of her suit. As she peels off her suit starting with the secret notches in her suit, then to the hidden zipper in the front, a sigh escapes her when she gets the material off of her skin and can feel the cold breeze on her hot skin. As the suit comes off her back, a shiver runs up her spine when the cold hits her scars. She doesn’t pay attention to it as she removes her bra and panties and puts on her robe. She takes her suit and puts it on the dresser to wash later.
She steps out of the room to see the kitchen and living room to be empty, a light coming from under Jason’s door.
She walks to the bathroom and switches the light on, engulfing the room with light. She takes a look at herself in the mirror first checking for anything on her face, she sees that when she looks at her hair, blonde is coming in the roots. “Hey jay!” She yells. “Yeah?” “Tomorrow can I go to the shop and get some hair dye?” Jason steps out of his room with his sleeping clothes on. “That’s if you get me some as well, I’ve needed to dye mine for weeks now.” “Okay I’ll just get the same one then.” “Okay, goodnight little one.” “Night jay jay.”
She shuts the door and turns the water on and sets it to a warm temperature. She strips from her robe and sets it on the counter.
She steps into the shower and lets the water engulf her and sighs at the comfort it brings. She grabs her sponge and lathers in in soap as she gingerly rubs her body down from the sweat that collected on her body. Taking extra care on any healing wounds from previous nights. As she reaches up to wash the top of her shoulder blades a sharp pain runs through her and a small cry leaves her as the pain sets in until she lowers her arms. She waits for the pain to subside to get back under the water. She puts her head under the water and lets the water wash the soap from her body and wet her hair. She grabs the shampoo and lathers her scalp and smiles at the minty cooling it brings.
She stands in the water for a few minutes even after she’s finished washing her hair. She’s so tired she could fall asleep in here.
She shuts the water off and steps into the steamy room and grabs a towel and drys off, putting the towel on her head to dry her hair as she puts her robe on. She goes back to her room to see her suit is no longer on the dresser. Jay must’ve come and gotten them. She smiles as she grabs a shirt that she took from Jason one of the first nights that she came to live here. Even after a year of training it’s still fitting like a dress on her. She gets into bed and lets the comfort of her bed put her to sleep.
She comes into the apartment with a bag containing 2 boxes of black hair dye and a snack for later. “Jay jay im home!” “Bathroom!” “You taking a shit?” “No!” “You naked?” “No” “okay then.”
She enters the bathroom and is met with Jason, bent down to see the top of his head, with a fine tooth comb trying to take the white tuft of hair away from the rest of his hair but failing miserably. “Want some help?” “Please.” She chuckles as Jason sits on the toilet and grabs the comb and starts Sectioning his white bit from his hair. “Why don’t you dye this bit, I never understood why you keep it.” “Makes me look badass.” A laugh rumbles from her and Jason joins in with her. “Yeah and the 6’4 height and the 200 plus pounds of Muscle along with guns isn’t enough.” “Hey plenty of guys have that, who else can say they got a white tuft of hair?” “Old guys, maybe you are getting old now!” “You little shithead.” Jason grabs her sides and starts tickling her, as she lets out a laugh and a cry and tries folding her body from him and he gets up and keeps tickling her sides. “ST-O-PP II-TT!” She laughs “STOP IT DAD!” The tickling stops as she gasps and looks away from Jason. She feels his large arms wrap around her and is squished to his chest. She wraps her arms around him as well. “Okay then I’ll stop, daughter.” A few tears threaten to leave her eyes but she wipes them away on his shirt.
As they untangle their arms from around each other Jason kisses the top of her forehead, a smile breaking on her face. Jason sits back down while she takes the white hair and ties them with a small rubber Elastic and pins them away as to not get any dye on it.
She prepares the dye and puts it in a paper bowl and dips the brush into the mix, and starts off by painting the hair around the white. Then once that is coated she spreads more dye on his hair, getting it in well on his strawberry blonde roots and coating all the hair until it’s fully saturated in the now dark dye. She wraps his hair in cling film. Leaving out the white bit.
She sits down as Jason takes the other box and mixes the dye. He puts the gloves on and takes a glob and puts it in her hair, some drips on her forehead and she laughs at the scared look on Jason’s face. “Maybe don’t pick up so much dye in one go eh.” “Yeeaahh I’ll remember that next time.” He takes a washcloth he has ready for this very purpose and wipes the dye from her forehead. She chuckles at the look of pure Concentration on Jason’s face, even his tongue sticks out a little bit. He carefully rubs the dye into her hair and a calm silence overcomes the two. When it’s all in she wraps her hair in cling film and waits another 20 minutes for Jason’s hair to Process.
Once the 20 minutes has passed they go into the kitchen and Jason bends down to get his head in the sink. She starts washing the dye from his hair and makes sure not to get any in the white. Once it’s washed out her hair is ready. “Now I’ll try not to get any water in your ear like last time.” “You better not.”
Jason starts rubbing the dye out of her hair, another silence overcomes them as the water turns from black to clear. She gets up and puts her hair in a towel. The two walk into the living room and sit down on the couch. “What do you wanna watch?” “Umm, I don’t know.” “Have you seen the Harry Potter movies?” “No?” Jason gasps. “Okay I know what we’re doing for the rest of the day.”
He gets up and goes over to his stack of movies and picks one to go into the tv slot. “While you do that I’m getting something to eat.” She goes to the fridge and sees what she’s been waiting for all day. She grabs the yogurt and a spoon and plops on the couch with Jason. “How can you eat that shit?” “It’s the most wonderful and Decadent food in all of existence.” She says as she puts the spoon in her mouth. They relax as the first scene comes on and prepare to watch what will probably take up the rest of their day.
As Damian walks down the hallway of the manor he’s greeted by Alfred. “Master Damian, master dick has requested you to go to the family room for ‘brother time.’ I brought sandwiches and lemonade for you both.” “Thank you Alfred.” Damian groans as he walks towards the living room. The sound of the large TV is heard down the hallway the further he gets to the room. Damian walks in and sees dick laying on one of the large couches facing the TV. “Hey dames, come on in.” Damian rolls his eyes as dick sits up and he joins him on the couch. “What do you want, you never just invite me to watch a movie.” “I know, I was here helping Bruce with a case and we got it figured out faster than we thought and I’ve got nothing to do today. So I thought we’d have some brotherly bonding time.” “Can’t you do that with drake?” “He’s out with steph today.” “And Todd?” “Damian...you know he doesn’t talk to us anymore..hasn’t for a while.” “Probably because he’s got his hands full with that annoying little brat hes taken in.” “Wait what? What do you mean?” “Last month father and I went out one night to a large drug trade and found the place filled with bodies. When we found the couplet it was Todd and said he wanted to show us their work. He’s taken in a young girl and calls her his Protègè. And god she’s Insufferable and won’t shut up and is a fucking Nuisance.” “Oh yeah, what makes her that way?” “She’s always saying something snarky, always with a smug look on her face and makes inappropriate comments towards me.” “What kind of comments does she make? And why does it bother you so much dames?” “I’m done talking about her, if I keep thinking about her I’ll get a headache.” “Okay then..” dick says with a smile. “What do you want to watch?” “I don’t care, just nothing annoying.” “You find everything annoying.” “Not everything, just most things. Besides father and I leave for patrol in a few hours.” “Ever seen Chicago P.D.?” “No.” “Then we’re watching that.”
When Damian walks down to the cave he sees his father is already in his suit. “I need you to hurry up tonight, Croc escaped the asylum and is in downtown Gotham.” “Got it.” He hurried to get dressed and grab his things faster than normal.
Catastrophe, all that was around them was destroyed apart from the tall buildings that stood high into the sky. Cars where abandoned with windows broken. Glass and Debris scattered all over the ground, crunching against their boots as the walked around trying to find where croc went.
A scream could be heard on the other street over, Batman and robin running towards it. They cane to a halt when they saw croc holding a woman in the air, about to rip her apart when a bullet was shot into crocs foot. The beast let out a roar and threw the woman, both men running towards them to not only save the wounded woman but to stop croc. As Batman runs to fight croc, Damian crouches down to pick the injured woman. That is until he hears another person running towards them. It’s her. “You go help Batman and I’ll take her to safety.” Angel picks up the woman and runs towards the other street, presumably to where the cops are.
As Damian goes to help his father he gets hit by the tail of croc, throwing him to the ground a few feet away. Croc sets his eyes on the fallen robin, and charges at him raising his claws to strike him. But before he could be ripped apart a shot fires and hits crocs hand. As croc clutches his hand in pain, Damian feels arms wrap around him, pulling him up. “Are you hurt??” “No im fine!” “Then do your fucking job and try not to get killed!” Angel takes a rock next to her and throws it at crocs head. Angering him and having him charge at the both of them. Damian takes his grappling gun and shoots croc in the head and pulls him to the ground and kicks his head into the ground. Angel gets on top of croc and beats his head into the ground until croc gets back up and she swings off from him before he can fling her off. Red hood appears and shoots croc in the knee. Croc falling to the ground in pain. Batman comes and kicks crocs head into the ground again, finally Knocking him unconscious.
“You know I didn’t need your help!” “Hmm yeah, totally looked that way when you just laid there when he was about to rip you apart!” “We had it under control!” “You had it under control as much as you control your angel issues.” “DO YOU EVER SHUT THE HELL UP!!” “Don’t be fucking MAD AT ME THAT I SPEAK THE TRUTH! EVERYONE JUST TIP TOES AROUND YOU BUT GUESS WHAT I WONT! You’re just fucking mad that I speak the truth!” “IF IT WASN’T FOR THIS CODE I WOULD’VE KILLED YOU BY NOW!!” “ROBIN! STOP IT NOW!”
Damian didn’t hear his father when he charged at her, no longer able to control his anger. He grips her arms and throws her, her landing on the ground. She reaches back and hits him as hard as she can in the mouth, stunning him for a second as she flips around, slamming her thighs around his neck and locking him in a choke hold. “You know, most people in this Position are in very different Circumstances. If you weren’t such a prick I’d offer to try it out sometime.” She gets off of him as he gasps for breath. He hits her and throws her again, against a car and walks away.
“You know, I looked up to you when I was on the streets. Thought you and him were a symbol of good, justice, and to help others. Now I see you’re just a broken man who can’t handle when someone challenges you and gets angry when someone defies you. Robin is supposed to help people, to help the greater good and to save this city. You’re no robin.” When he turns around she’s gone. When he heard her, a pain shot through his heart. He let his anger control him, he was becoming what his mother trained him to be. A soldier that ends anybody who defies his beliefs.
As him and his father speed away awards the manor, a silence fills the space. Damian looking down just thinking. He’s not thinking about one thing in particular, more a jumble of things that he can’t put into parts and Sort through.
When they reach the manor Damian gets out and starts walking away, not even bidding Alfred or his father a goodnight. Both men watching him walk away with tense and rushed footsteps.
The sound of his door opening brings Damian back to reality. He walks into the room with his head still down. He goes to the bathroom, striping from his suit and getting into the shower. He scrubs all the sweat and grime from his body and washes his hair.
As Damian gets out of the shower he looks in the mirror and sees a bruise starting to form on his neck, from the girl who may Infuriate him, but also he let down because of his anger, a lesser but still strong pain shoots him in the heart at the thought. Her usual arrogant and snarky voice sounding disappointed and, pained. How many others has he let down since becoming robin? How many no longer look at robin as a symbol of hope. How many no longer think of robin being good, all because of him. The thought hurts him to think as he climbs into bed. The pained sound of her voice ringing in his head until sleep overcomes him.

Hi! I was wondering if you could post the Athletic's Olympic roster predictions please?!
ok here’s a lot under the cut, i’ve included men and womens for both Canada and USA.
Canada Mens
Remember how the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang unfolded? Canada won a hard-earned bronze medal playing a stingy brand of defence under coach Willie Desjardins and lost only a single game in regulation – to Germany in the semifinals – before defeating the Czech Republic to earn a place on the podium.
Just one thing was missing: NHL players. Hockey’s crème de la crème. Three years ago, the NHL decided not to participate in the Winter Olympics for a lot of reasons that made little sense to the hockey world which made the Games look a little like the Spengler Cup.
Thankfully, as part of the collective bargaining extension signed last summer, the NHL is returning to compete in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing — assuming the logistical details can be ironed out among the league, the IIHF and the IOC and that the pandemic is under some sort of control.
With apologies to all the players who competed so hard for Canada in 2018, the selection process this time around will be far more difficult because of the staggering depth of the talent pool.
One thing Canada never lacks at the highest level of hockey is oodles of options at both forward and defence. The players who don’t make the grade for Canada would fill out a ‘B’ team that would contend for gold.
How might Team Canada 2022 look? Thought you’d never ask. In our eternal quest to be helpful to the managerial powers-that-be, here are our projections for a 25-player roster, which is what the IOC permitted for Sochi in 2014.
As always, remember that in Canada, for an exercise such as this one, there really aren’t many bad options. Just too many good ones.
The last time men’s hockey had a best-on-best tournament was back in 2016 and if that World Cup taught us anything, it is that the younger generation of players dominating the game today had no stage fright whatsoever when they were got a chance to play together as North America’s 23-and-under team. They were fun to watch and unlucky not to advance to the medal round.
In previous Olympics, sometimes Canada’s management team would opt for veteran players over young up-and-comers because of a fear that they might be overwhelmed by the moment. Team Canada’s biggest Olympic bobble in the NHL era came in 2006 and you wonder what might have happened if they’d injected the youth and vigour of Sidney Crosby onto a team that seemed slow and plodding on the big ice of Turin.
By contrast, the decision to go with the 20-year-old Drew Doughty in Vancouver proved quite prescient – he was one of the key contributors that year and then again in 2014 in Sochi, as Canada won back-to-back golds.
Nowadays, Doughty is one of the more polarizing players in the game. He still plays a ton of minutes for the Los Angeles Kings and oozes confidence. On a blue line that features a whole lot of next-gen talent – from Cale Makar and Shea Theodore to Thomas Chabot and Morgan Rielly — chances are they’ll opt for one or two steadying veterans on the blue line. We’ve selected Alex Pietrangelo and Doughty to fill out what is otherwise a talented but relatively green defence corps that’ll get the puck up to the forwards, with great dispatch and accuracy.
Canada’s 2014 gold-medal team won with a stingy brand of hockey and timely saves from Carey Price, whenever he was called upon. That can be a challenge sometimes – playing goal on a team that surrenders few Grade-A opportunities and tests your level of focus and concentration because there will be the occasional breakdown that you will need to be in a position to respond to.
Long-term, Carter Hart will likely take over from Price as Canada’s go-to starter in goal, but there are still some inconsistencies in his game that drops him down to the No. 2 position. One wild card I considered here was the Devils’ Mackenzie Blackwood, who had an excellent rookie season last year and was off to a good start this year as well. Chances are if Blues’ GM Doug Armstrong has the final say, Jordan Binnington would likely be the third goalie on this roster.
All of which leads us to the hardest, most controversial decisions which involve the forward group. There’s the usual problem of having too many natural centres on the roster and so someone will have to switch to the right wing. Among the elite-level centres in Canada, both Nathan MacKinnon and Mark Scheifele are right-handed shots and could swing over to the wing. One likely will have to and in this scenario, it’s Scheifele, if only so that MacKinnon and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who developed some familiarity playing for Team North America in the World Cup, can play together.
That creates some flexibility if the coach – we’re picking Barry Trotz – ultimately wants to shift Nugent-Hopkins up to Connor McDavid’s line.
Splitting Crosby and Brad Marchand may also just be temporary. In 2016, those two along with Patrice Bergeron were the clear top line for Canada, and scored all the important goal. But Bergeron will be 36 by the time the Olympics roll around, and thus, didn’t make the final group here. You could theoretically put Marchand, Crosby and MacKinnon (playing right wing) together on an all-Nova Scotia line and the chemistry could be magical.
The beauty of Canada’s roster is the versatility of so many of the better forwards – Ryan O’Reilly, Sean Couturier, Brayden Point and Bo Horvat could all play the wing as well as down the middle. Chances are, every line that Canada rolls out will include two natural centres making face-off match-ups easier for the coaching staff, if they can fit both a right- and a left-hand centre onto each line.
The bottom line: With a player pool so deep, Canada has incredible talent and flexibility. Talent enough to get the go-ahead goal in a tight game.
Flexibility enough to juggle lines as needed and get the defensive match-ups as required. The greatest coaching challenge is usually selling a one-for-all and all-for-one vision. If a star player is forced to adopt a secondary role, he’ll need to handle it with maturity and grace and cannot start pouting because he isn’t the first option on the PP or the PK the way he might be on his club team.
Managing egos is as big a part of the job for the coaching staff as setting lines and spooling out ice time. — Eric Duhatschek
I’m going to keep this very simple.
Hockey Canada has a formula. It involves a few key rules that have helped Team Canada dominate best-on-best competition to an unprecedented degree over the past decade:
1) Everyone plays on their strong side.
2) Wherever possible, bring pairs of players that play together in the NHL so you have an immediate chemistry advantage in a short tournament.
3) Bring extra centres and just have them play on the wall.
4) Experience and tenure matter. If you were on the last team and are still elite, you have an edge in the event all other factors are equal.
Now, Hockey Canada has also opted to play grinding, low event hockey over the past decade. It’s cynical, it’s ruthless and it delivers gold.
However, this approach stinks. It shows a certain ruthless focus, which I appreciate, but it actually lacks any grander ambition.
Hockey Canada could aspire for more. They should aspire for greatness.
They should aspir for a national men’s team with the purpose of articulating a national vision of a beautiful, skillful and yet still assertive and physical two-way brand of hockey. Canada’s men’s team could play hockey beautifully if Canada decided to play hockey beautifully, and that’s what this team is going to do — within the framework of Hockey Canada’s otherwise winning formula.
Right off the top, I’ve built the fastest first line in the history of the sport. McDavid moves to the wing mostly for handedness reasons. A top line of McDavid, MacKinnon and Mathew Barzal are going to test the limits of what’s possible to accomplish in hockey playing at the highest possible speed.
Until one of Marchand, Crosby and Bergeron fall off and aren’t among the NHL’s best individually, they’re a set line for Hockey Canada. This is the easiest choice there is. They have chemistry, experience, swagger as a group, and they bring the DNA of Hockey Canada’s decade-of-dominance to this forward group.
The third line is where things get interesting, particularly because this is where the toughest omission from my team — Jonathan Huberdeau — kicks in. Ultimately I’m going to make a decision to prefer John Tavares’ experience, ability to cover in the event of a centre injury and his chemistry with Mitch Marner over Huberdeau’s electricity.
I’m not bringing Rob Zamuner or Kris Draper to fill a role or anything, but my fourth-line definitely has the identity of the highest-end possible version of an energy line. Honestly, in some matchups, this trio may well end up being Hockey Canada’s matchup line ahead of the Crosby line, since it’s just a collection of the countries most willful two-way players.
I’m bringing Steven Stamkos and Couturier as extra forwards, basically two centremen — a lefty and a righty — which means snubbing Bo Horvat and Claude Giroux, my toughest omissions besides Huberdeau.
We weren’t asked to name coaches, but I should add that I’ve named Pete DeBoer and Jared Bednar as assistant coaches, partly because they’re deserving and partly so that my top-four can get reps together throughout the NHL season leading up to the 2022 Games.
There’s a factor in the international game that I still don’t think Hockey Canada has fully incorporated into their player selection process, but they really should: Puck-moving defenders are everything.
Which is why Samuel Girard — probably my most surprising selection — is a slam dunk no brainer for this team and is likely to play a prominent role. Thanks to Bednar’s colluding with me to win a gold medal, he’ll spend more time with Makar in the season leading up to the Olympics (although they’ve spent 200 5-on-5 minutes together the past two seasons, so they’re not exactly strangers). Same goes for Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore, who have played together a bit at 5-on-5 in the early going for Vegas (about 35 minutes so far), but will become the Golden Knight’s fixture top pair in 2021-22 for the purposes of Olympic preparation.
Doughty makes the team because he’s still performing at a high enough level that his status as the most important Hockey Canada veteran defender matters. And Morgan Rielly will be his partner on a mobile third pair, narrowly edging out Giordano.
Ryan Ellis is custom made for the international game and my Hockey Canada will have zero reservation bumping him up the lineup if injuries call for it.
In net, Price and Hart are coming to represent the past and the future while Jordan Binnington gets the nod to round out my trio of netminders. I’m comfortable enough with all three goaltenders that whoever is performing the best ahead of the tournament will go into the round-robin as my defacto starter. — Thomas Drance

Picking a Canadian roster a year ahead of an Olympics is never easy.
And this time around, looking ahead to Beijing 2022, might be harder than ever, as the years since the 2018 Games have been unlike any other post-Olympic period for Team Canada.
First of all, Canada is coming off a silver medal finish at the last games in Pyeongchang — the first time that’s happened in two decades. If that wasn’t difficult enough, on the eve of the 2019 world championships, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League announced it would fold after nearly 12 years in operation, taking away most Canadians’ daily training environments. Canada ultimately lost in the semifinal of the tournament and took home a bronze medal, the first time Team Canada hasn’t won’t at least silver at a world championship. Then, the 2019 4 Nations Cup was cancelled due to contract disputes between the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and the Swedish women’s team.
On top of all of that, there have been further complications brought by a global pandemic, which led to the cancellation of the 2020 4 Nations Cup and the 2020 women’s world championships.
Essentially, the women’s hockey calendar through the first three years of the Olympic quad cycle has been almost entirely wiped out.
“This quad had been a huge challenge, not only for our program but certainly for women’s hockey globally,” said Gina Kingsbury, the manager of the senior women’s national team. “We’re sitting at Year 3 of our quad with a very little amount of critical experience that we were able to share across our athlete pool to be able to evaluate them and be able to prepare them for an Olympic Games.”
The last time Team Canada played at an international event was 660 days ago at the 2019 worlds. Since then, they’ve relied on games against the U.S. national team and mini-camps throughout the season hosted by Hockey Canada, but even those have been largely put on hold due to the pandemic.
Still, with all that being said, as part of The Athletic’s one year out from the Olympics package, we are going to try our best to project the 2022 Team Canada women’s Olympic roster.
Guided by 2018
To start, let’s take a brief comparative look at who played for Canada in 2018 and who would make the team today. Players selected for the 2022 team are highlighted in red.

From 2018 to 2022, we’re projecting 15 returnees among the 23 roster spots. Nine up front, four on the blue line, and two in goal. It’s not a ton of turnover between the four years, but there are still several spots for younger players to break onto the senior national team and for others to make their Olympic debuts.
Now, let’s look at the projection.
How did I arrive at these names with so few evaluation opportunities?
Well, despite the cancellation, Hockey Canada still named its 23-player roster for the 2020 world championships.
And, in early January, 47 players were invited to a training camp at Hockey Canada’s home base in Calgary. Thirty-five athletes attended the two-week camp — players such as Rebecca Johnston and Sarah Nurse were invited but unable to attend — and were split into two teams for scrimmages, with the line rushes and defence pairings posted daily.
It’s not a huge sample size, but using the previous Olympic and World Championship rosters, and taking stock of the two-week camp, which ended on Friday, you can get a pretty good idea of where things stand one year out from Beijing 2022.
As mentioned above, this roster consists of 15 returnees from the 2018 Games. And 22 of the 23 players projected here were named to Canada’s roster for the cancelled 2020 Women’s World Championship. Brigette Lacquette is the only player on my roster who didn’t make the World Championship roster, as she was unable to play.
These lines and pairings certainly aren’t set in stone, but they were consistently used at last week’s camp, except for Nurse on the line with Emily Clark and Blayre Turnbull, as Nurse did not attend camp.
To start, there are some names on this roster that should be no-brainers.
Marie-Philip Poulin, 29, is now over a decade into her international career and is arguably the greatest player of all-time in the women’s game. She’s Canada’s captain and scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal games of her first two Olympic appearances (2010 and 2014). A knee injury kept her mostly out of the 2019 world championships, but she’s healthy now. And it would take something completely unforeseen for Poulin to not be in Beijing.
Her frequent winger for club (the now-defunct CWHL Les Canadiennes) and country, Mélodie Daoust, is also a natural choice. With three goals and seven points in five games, she led Canada in scoring at the last Olympics. And scored one of the most impressive shootout goals in the gold medal game.
Natalie Spooner and Brianne Jenner have been consistent staples for Team Canada in the last two Olympic Games, with Spooner making her World Championship debut in 2011, and Jenner in 2012. The duo ranked No. 1 and 2 in scoring for Canada at the 2019 world championships. Spooner scored six goals and 10 points in seven games, only one goal behind Hilary Knight, who led the tournament with 11 points. Jenner wasn’t far behind with nine points.
Lauriane Rougeau and Jocelyne Larocque are also steady veterans, albeit on the blue line, who have the 2014 and 2018 Olympics under their belts. While, Nurse and Clark, who played together at the University of Wisconsin, both made their Olympic debuts in 2018 and should be natural choices to return in 2022. Similarly, Fast made her debut in 2018 and has established herself as one of the top defenders in the women’s game.
Youth vs. experience
I wanted to strike a balance on this roster with returning players, veterans and young players, or those making their Olympic debut. Because according to Kingsbury, as much as you want to win a gold medal, you have to keep an eye to the future.
“Often you tend to lean on what you know, and the unknowns of the young players obviously is a little scary, but I do think we’re at a point in our program that we do have to sometimes take calculated risks,” she explained. “We’re aiming at winning a gold medal in Beijing, but we’re also making sure that we’ve got a sustainable success here down the road as well and that we’re looking ahead in the future of our program.”
With that front of mind, there are some obvious omissions on this projected roster.
Both Johnston and Laura Fortino, who played in 2018, were among the final cuts for the 2020 world championships. I left them off this roster.
Shannon Szabados was a steady presence in Canada’s crease from her Olympic debut in 2010 until 2019. She recently had her first child and is currently not playing. She could certainly decide to come back but will be 35 by the next games and 39 by 2026.
So, this feels like a natural time for a passing of the torch in the crease to younger goalies like Ann-Renée Desbiens, 26, and Emerance Maschmeyer, 26, who have been given a lot of the net over the last two and a half years, along with Geneviève Lacasse, 31.
Similarly, Meaghan Mikkelson, a three-time Olympian, was one of the most experienced players at last week’s camp, with just under 50 games for Canada at the Olympics (14) and world championships (35) over the last decade. She last played in 2017-18, taking a leave after the birth of her second child. This will be her second comeback to the national team.
This was one of the more difficult decisions for my projected blue line, and I assume this will be the same for the real decision-makers at Hockey Canada. Mikkelson will be 37 when the Games begin. If she can re-elevate her game, she can be a force on the ice. But could, say, Claire Thompson, 23, have a similar impact?
If we assume Rougeau, 30, and Larocque, 31, make this team, with two other returning blueliners in Fast and Lacquette, the Canadian blue line isn’t going to be inexperienced. So bringing Thompson to Beijing over Mikkelson could be one of those “looking ahead in the future” decisions.
There could be a similar decision in looking at a player like Erin Ambrose, who was the most difficult omission for me. Ambrose was one of the last cuts for the 2018 Olympics, but played her way onto the 2019 and 2020 World Championship rosters. She could realistically do the same for Beijing. But again, how much does Hockey Canada want to look forward to the future?
Admittedly, Ambrose, Mikkelson and even Meghan Agosta — a four-time Olympian who is a full-time Vancouver police officer who hasn’t play for Canada since 2017-18 — could be the ultimate wild cards for 2022. However, for this exercise, I decided that if I was undecided between a player on the way up and an older player, I erred on the side of the former.
This brings us to the Olympic rookies, projected to be: Jamie Lee Rattray, Victoria Bach, Sarah Fillier, Loren Gabel, Jaime Bourbonnais, Micah Zandee-Hart, and the aforementioned Maschmeyer and Thompson.
All eight of these rookies were named to the 2020 World Championship roster, and they were all featured in the 2019 world championships except for Bach and Fillier, who were among the final cuts. Rattray, 28, has been in the Hockey Canada program for a while now and has seemed to solidify a place within the core group. Bach was set to make her international tournament debut at the world championships, and while that debut has been delayed, her standing on the team remains.
There are two young stars to watch for here, too, in Gabel and Fillier.
Gabel, 23, made her senior team debut at the 2018 4 Nations Cup and won the Patty Kazmaier Award — the biggest individual honour in women’s college hockey — in 2019 after scoring 40 goals and 69 points in 38 games, including 11 game-winning goals for Clarkson University. She graduated that year as the all-time leading scorer with 213 points on 116 goals and 97 assists through 160 games.
Fillier, 20, was nominated for the Patty Kazmaier as a rookie at Princeton in 2018-19 after she put up nearly two points per game (1.97) to lead NCAA women’s hockey. Fillier, a centre, also led her team in scoring (22 goals and 57 points in 29 games) and was named the National Rookie of the Year. Like Gabel, Fillier made her senior team debut at the 2018 4 Nations Cup.
These two have been on the rise and should certainly crack the 2021 World Championship and 2022 Olympics rosters.
Bourbonnais, Thompson and Zandee-Hart further make up the young up and coming core of Hockey Canada’s roster, specifically on the blue line.
As mentioned, all of the above players were named to the 2020 World Championship roster, which shows a lot of trust from the decision-makers to put them into best-on-best competition. The world championships is often a dress rehearsal for the Olympics, too. That they were all chosen over veterans like Johnston and Fortino means a lot.
Finally, there are some other young players in Hockey Canada’s talent pool to be highlighted here, such as Élizabeth Giguère, Emma Maltais and Daryl Watts.
Giguère won the Patty Kazmaier last season, while Watts currently leads the nation with 11 goals and 21 points through 10 games to start the NCAA season. There are some key complications impacting their Olympic chances.
None of the three were at the recent camp, a key evaluator for the 2021 world championships. Kingsbury said “it was impossible” to bring any U.S.-based athletes to camp due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. (Fillier decided to take the year off from Princeton with the questions around if Ivy League schools would have a season and the Olympic considerations in mind.)
“Having our college players not here is definitely another challenge,” she said. “You’re trying to scout online, and it’s hard to see what they do in college and try to figure out if that’s going to have an impact at the international level.”
So while they are talented, without camps and potentially cracking the 2021 World Championship roster, it will be hard to jump into the 2022 Olympics. Especially if they are trying to take spots from returning players such as Turnbull, Jill Saulnier and Laura Stacey, who have all shown they can be reliable forwards who can play up and down the lineup.
For everything laid out here, all it takes is a really good tournament or training camp by one or two players to change my entire roster. Every year before the Olympics, Hockey Canada invites its Olympic hopefuls to Calgary for a six-to-seven month “centralized” camp before the Games.
Typically, there are some surprises on the roster, as Kingsbury said some players come in “like sponges” and elevate their game.
Such is the difficulty in this exercise. Anything can happen once we officially get into the final year of the Olympic quad. But regardless, Canada is going to have a deep talent pool to chose from when it comes time for Beijing 2022.
USA Mens
I remember covering the 2010 United States Olympic men’s hockey team — that came within a Sidney Crosby overtime goal of winning a gold medal — and before the tournament wondering: How the hell are they going to fill out this roster?
Ten years later, there has been a seismic change in the hockey landscape at the highest levels in the United States. Depth is no longer an issue for the U.S.
We often joke Canada could enter two teams in these best-on-best tournaments and both would be gold-medal worthy. The U.S. is not so far behind that and it’s illustrated by the difficult decisions we’ve made with this lineup and the hard decisions that await whoever builds the 2022 version of Team USA. There will be no shortage of heated debate about those tabbed to wear the red, white and blue and, of course, those whose names do not end up on the 25-man roster.
In starting to narrow down our roster here, we hearkened back to that scrappy 2010 team built by Brian Burke and David Poile and coached by Ron Wilson and looked for clues as to how to build not just the most talented team but the team most likely to win gold. What was it that allowed that group to defy projections and push a superstar-laden Canadian team to overtime?
Conversely, what was it that led a talented American roster to fall short of a medal in Sochi four years later and to flame out spectacularly in the 2016 World Cup? You will hear over and over that this version of Team USA will be the most talented ever iced in a best-on-best tournament. Maybe. But we focused in this exercise on building not just the most talented American roster but a team that can overcome disappointment, obstacles and the unexpected en route to what would be the first American gold medal in men’s hockey since the Miracle on Ice in 1980.
Let the shame-talking begin. Yes. No room on this roster for Johnny Gaudreau, Zach Parise or Paul Stastny. No room for 2019 first overall pick Jack Hughes. Sorry.
This is as good a team down the middle as any Team USA has iced, starting with Auston Matthews and Jack Eichel. A little bit of everything from this group of centers including solid leadership, ability to play shutdown hockey and, of course, create offense. That meant excluding worthy pivots like Kevin Hayes and Hughes even though one former coach and executive we spoke to felt Hughes would continue to evolve and push his way onto the roster before the end of 2021.
As for the wingers, there is so much to like from this group including the size and speed of Blake Wheeler, Jake Guentzel and Anders Lee and the offensive creativity of J.T. Miller and Kyle Connor. And of course, who will every team in the tournament love to hate from the word go? Matthew Tkachuk.
We kept Stanley Cup champion and Olympic shootout hero T.J. Oshie (T.J. Sochi as he is known after his exploits in 2014) given his experience. If you wanted more speed on the right side, you could go with Bryan Rust and/or one of our favorite emerging players, Conor Garland. We love the natural connection between usual Winnipeg linemates Connor and Wheeler and we wanted Stanley Cup champion Blake Coleman on this roster for his versatility and his ability to play both ends of the ice.
At one point, we had Gaudreau as one of our extra forwards in place of Max Pacioretty but the experts we spoke to felt Pacioretty needed to be on the roster and the fact that Gaudreau has struggled to produce in the playoffs we went with Pacioretty. Both the coach and former player we spoke to suggested two Brocks, Nelson and Boeser, and Columbus captain Nick Foligno should be considered. Another dark horse forward in the former player’s view is Alex Iafallo.
There will be no more critical decisions for Team USA’s management team than the ones made on the blue line.
The Beijing Games will be played on North American-sized ice so it will be critical to include not only those defenders who can skate fluidly and make good, quick decisions with the puck but who can defend vigorously. Team USA’s entry in the World Cup in 2016 is a good illustration of why you should never build a team with the notion of facing one particular opponent. But given Canada is in the same round-robin pool as the U.S., the ability to defend a physical, skilled team like Canada will be paramount.
As in all things, the balance will be crucial. This group is split evenly right shot/left shot and does have a good mix of youthful zest and solid experience. Some may quibble with leaving a guy like Zach Werenski off the roster, especially given his familiarity with Seth Jones. Fair enough. But a number of NHL sources we spoke to felt Torey Krug needed to be on this team.
Jeff Petry has established himself as one of the most effective defensemen in the game excelling in all situations and playing more often than not against opposing teams’ top talent. Jaccob Slavin, who is the motor that drives the talented Carolina blue line, must be on this roster. Charlie McAvoy has emerged from the shadows of Zdeno Chara to become the Bruins’ undisputed number one defender and he will be a key part of this blue line.
So having to leave Werenski off the list of eight is difficult but a function of the breadth and depth of options that will be available. Others who were on the radar included young John Marino, who has been so impressive in Pittsburgh, and the venerable Ryan Suter, who is a perennial participant in these best-on-best tournaments.
Goaltending is probably the most clearly established position for Team USA. Connor Hellebuyck is the defending Vezina Trophy winner. He’s an elite netminder who has endured his own share of ups and downs en route to his current lofty status.
John Gibson, playing behind a rebuilding Ducks team, won’t have the gaudy numbers that other top NHL netminders boast but he is recognized around the hockey world as an elite netminder and he will push Hellebuyck for the starter’s role in Beijing.
Ben Bishop’s lingering health issues excuse him from our list but if the multiple time Vezina Trophy finalist went on a roll later this season or to start the 2021-22 season he could play his way into the picture. Two-time Stanley Cup winner Jonathan Quick is Hall of Fame worthy but past his prime so we went younger with Thatcher Demko, who was stellar in the bubble playoffs for Vancouver.
We’ll admit one former NHL coach and executive with whom we shared our roster felt unequivocally Bishop should be on the team ahead of Demko. And one longtime netminder and analyst felt that the Kings’ Cal Petersen in Los Angeles might actually jump over Gibson by the time the Olympics roll around. — Scott Burnside
Let’s start with the fourth line. I was chatting with Blackhawks director of amateur scouting Mark Kelley for another story on the way about Team USA and he suggested this one. We were debating the merits of Jack Hughes on the Olympic team and he said, if he were to do it, he’d throw him out there with the two Tkachuks.
“No one will get near him,” Kelley said of Hughes. “It’ll be like he’s walking his two pit bulls.”
To pull it off, we’re probably costing a guy like Jake Guentzel a deserving spot, but it’s fun. I like the idea of T.J. Oshie as an option for shootouts but just couldn’t squeeze him in. I’d also like to find a spot for Joe Pavelski, who is averaging like three goals per game this season, but am skewing younger because we’re a year out. This team is loaded.
Quinn Hughes has gone from a guy knocking on the door to make the roster to the top pair over the last year. Just think of how good he’ll be a year from now. Zach Werenski could be penciled in to play in the place of Ryan Suter but it would be great to have Suter’s Olympic experience available in the top six. It’s also possible we’re suffering from some recency bias following Werenski’s slow start. Adam Fox, Neal Pionk and Matt Grzelcyk all have to be on a watch list this season.
The debate in goal will be about who starts between Gibson and Hellebuyck but the most interesting slot might be No. 3. Chances are, that goalie isn’t playing, so I’m bringing the future of American goaltending — world junior gold medalist Spencer Knight — to get experience on the big stage and soak in the experience much like a young Jonathan Quick did in 2010. — Craig Custance
Team USA is due in best-on-best hockey.
They lost the bronze medal game at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. They were embarrassed at the 2016 World Cup.
Now they’ve got a whole new generation of stars ready to bring USA Hockey back to gold-medal contention.
The difficulty in this exercise of selecting the roster for the Beijing Olympics is proof of how things got to another level for USA Hockey over the past decade.
It’s probably a crime to leave off T.J. Sochi but there’s plenty of time for me to change my mind before next year. Anders Lee, Jake Guentzel, Blake Coleman, Bryan Rust, Chris Kreider and James van Riemsdyk are among other names I passed over for now. It speaks to the elite U.S. depth. I’m probably one of the few who has young Brady Tkachuk on this roster this far out but, believe me, when we get closer to the final roster picks next December/January, he will have worked his way on to a lot of people’s lists.
I may also be one of the few to select Kevin Hayes but I wanted the extra center on the roster and given the fact the tournament will be played on North American-sized ice, I like his big body as a factor.
Four lefties and four righties, talk about balance in this defense group. I do worry I put too much offense on here but I’ve got my penalty-killing units in Slavin-Jones and McDonagh-Petry. Obviously, it’s tough to leave off a quality veteran like Suter and no doubt USA Hockey may not. Zach Werenski and Cam Fowler are other names to monitor over the year. But I really like the balance in those eight I put down.
Not much to debate in goal as Hellebuyck-Gibson is pretty much locked in at this point as the 1-2 punch. Now, I went with youth as the No. 3 with Demko but obviously, a healthy Ben Bishop or a resurgent Jonathan Quick would force USA Hockey’s hand. — Pierre LeBrun
USA Womens
It’s been nearly three years since USA Hockey forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson unleashed her gold-medal winning shootout goal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The “Oops I Did it Again“ move shook Canadian netminder Shannon Szabados right out of her pads and sent the United States back home with their first goal medal since 1998.
Much has changed in the women’s hockey landscape since the national team was paraded around the United States media circuit. From “Ellen” to “The Tonight Show” to some players visiting the White House, we seemed on track to see the best leadup to the next Olympics ever.
However, the U.S. women’s team hasn’t competed in an official tournament since the April 2019 women’s worlds in Finland and has had very few competitive games since. It’s been a rocky road that has been only further complicated by the pandemic. The last official roster we got from USA Hockey was ahead of the cancelled 2020 world championships.
The 2022 Winter Olympics are officially one year away and soon we can expect USA Hockey to name a roster for the 2021 worlds and enter residency in the fall ahead of selecting the roster for the Beijing Games. Here is a look at all that has happened since the Pyeongchang Games and what we predict the final U.S. Olympic roster will look like.
The rundown
The Canadian Women’s Hockey League folded as Team USA traveled to Finland for the 2019 world championship — their last official tournament. New head coach Bob Corkum made some noticeable roster adjustments for that tournament, including bringing back the final cuts from the 2018 Olympic roster: Alex Carpenter and Megan Bozek. Kelly Pannek, Annie Pankowski and the return of 2014 Olympian Michelle Picard were other notable additions.
As Team USA was competing on the ice, they were also paving a future for professional women’s sports off the ice. Players made a bold statement with the #ForTheGame movement, vowing not to play for an existing professional league in North America. That was a loud and clear message to then-NWHL commissioner Dani Rylan. The movement has since evolved into the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association and the #DreamGap tour.
Games were already sparse when the Swedish national team held its own boycott for better conditions. Unlike what unfolded after the U.S. held out of the 2017 worlds, Sweden and its players did not reach an agreement and the 4 Nations Cup was canceled.
In lieu of 4 Nations, USA Hockey and Hockey Canada held a joint training camp in Pennsylvania. Canada opted for a young roster for the training camp, while the U.S. went with the usual suspects.
The next scheduled official tournament was the 2020 worlds. However, the pandemic shut that down and we haven’t seen USA Hockey in competition since. COVID-19 also greatly affected the PWHPA’s second year. Some players hit the ice last month in Tampa, but the organization has not yet been able to activate all of its five hub cities.
The 2020 world championship roster was announced and likely gives us the best glimpse at what USA Hockey will roll with as we approach the one year mark from the 2022 Olympics.

Roster changes
Notably missing from this roster compared to the 2018 Olympic team are Meghan Duggan, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, and Monique Lamoureaux-Morando. Duggan has since retired and it is unclear if USA Hockey is permanently moving on from the Lamoureux twins, who both returned to the team in November 2019 after each giving birth to their first child.
Defender Emily Matheson has announced she is expecting a baby boy in June 2021. Shelly Picard, who returned for the 2019 worlds, has also effectively retired and now serves as the deputy commissioner of the NWHL.
In goal, it would appear Nicole Hensley is on the outside looking in. Katie Burt and Aerin Frankel might be the two netminders Corkum brings in to join Maddie Rooney and Alex Cavallini. Overall, Corkum has shown he isn’t afraid to mix in some new faces with those synonymous with USA Hockey, such as Hilary Knight, Kacey Bellamy and new captain Kendall Coyne Schofield.
Annie Pankowski had a great world championship in 2019 but did not land on the 2020 roster. She was also missing from the 53-player roster tapped for an evaluation camp in October 2020, while younger players like Jincy Dunne, Natalie Snodgrass and Britta Curl were present.
Corkum emphasized in October the importance of bringing in new players and facilitating internal competition.
“We have a nice blend of youth and veteran talent here and the young players are certainly pushing the older players. And the older players aren’t ready to give it up,” Corkum said in a USA Hockey video recap.
Predictions
It is always difficult to make Olympic predictions, especially when USA Hockey hasn’t hit the ice in so long. I get the impression, though, that Corkum and USA Hockey are ready to shake things up. The roster for the 2021 worlds won’t be a complete youth movement, but it will feature some rising stars who have proven themselves in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series and in the NCAA. Here is my best guess at the 2022 Olympic Roster:
The 2020 world championship roster is the best indicator we have right now and I think we’ll see that team begin to take form as the go-to roster. I came up with line pairings based on the 2018 Olympics, 2019 worlds, and the 2019-20 Rivalry Series.
Alex Carpenter and Megan Bozek should make the next Olympics, though I’m more confident in Bozek than Carpenter.
Both are extremely skilled and are two of the few players currently getting in competitive games overseas. That said, there are a lot of good, young forwards coming up in the USA Hockey system. Abby Roque and Jesse Compher, for example, showed they are ready to play with Olympians in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series.
Roque, the 2020 Bob Allen USA Hockey Player of the Year, is an elite center and all signs point to her having a stellar international career. She scored two impressive goals in the Rivalry Series and injected some much-needed energy into USA Hockey coming off the lackluster performance at the 2019 November camp.
Last year would have marked the second consecutive world championship for Boston University product Jesse Compher. An injury kept her away from the Rivalry Series, but expect her to be back in the rotation. She has a great combination of size and skill for a USA Hockey team that is equal parts fast and furious on the ice.
Making the USA Hockey roster as a defender is tough, but ultimately, I think Matheson will need more time to return. I predict Savannah Harmon and Jincy Dunne will be the two vying for a spot this year, while Matheson will go for hers in 2022. I give the edge to the youth.
In net, Cavanelli and Rooney seem to be the mainstays for Corkum. Hensley attended the October evaluation camp, while Katie Burt did not. Frankel making the worlds roster indicates to me that she is being prepared for international competition.
As a journalist very fond of the eye test, this exercise was difficult, but here is to hoping we get to see players hit the ice for the red, white, and blue sooner rather than later.

William Blake is Daphne’s Uncle
Upon deciding to embark on a pweek dedicated to DC Comics, I was filled with trepidation by my lack of ideas for a suitable blessay. I initially thought of conducting a study into the connections in William Butler Yeats’s poetry to each of Crazy Jane’s personalities — but then I came across something even more interesting, and in the strangest of places. As part of my research for this week, I read many a comic book published by DC. One of these was Scooby Apocalypse, and I was surprised at the characterization of the protagonists in the series. No one was really themselves: Velma Dinkley wasn’t really Velma Dinkley; Fred Jones wasn’t really Fred Jones; Daphne Blake wasn't really Daphne Blake. Then it hit me — Daphne wasn’t really Daphne Blake, she wasn’t really a Blake. While all the characters seemed like strange parodies of their original selves, Daphne was easily the most distant. She was a fighter, quick talker and constantly in a bad mood — a far cry from her old self. Her original personality was lighter, akin to that of a Romantic poet prone to reverie — say, for instance, Blake. William Blake. Thus was born this blessay.1
Though they lived a century and a half apart, the personalities of William Blake and Daphne Blake show remarkable similarities. Not only do they share the same general demeanour and mien, but also a number of specific traits. William was a highly creative person — he constantly engaged in artistic creation, and also invented the technique of relief etching,2 which he used to produce his books, pamphlets and poems; Daphne was similarly inventive, such as her culinary creations used to convince Shaggy to do work.3 William was kind and selfless — for instance, he made the sacrifice of moving to Felpham in 1800 to illustrate the work of fellow poet William Hayley; Daphne is always willing to help those tormented by monsters. William made good use of clumsy rhyming schemes in some of his poems; Daphne's propensity for accident was such that she received the monicker 'Danger Prone Daphne'. William was opposed to the Newtonian paradigm of reality4 and said that one must create one's own system in order to avoid corruption by that of another; Daphne consistently shows similar independence, caring little for society's ideas of propriety and never hesitating to solve mysteries herself without waiting for the police. William traveled all over England and had an interest in world religions and anthropology, reading many different religious texts; Daphne traveled constantly with her friends and immersed herself in various cultures — the list goes on. Of course, Daphne Blake isn’t a complete replica of William Blake and the two differ in some less-important areas. She is more of a niece to Blake than a daughter or a gender-flipped clone.
It seems that Daphne's appearance is based on William Blake's own, exhibiting also some elements borrowed from his artistic work. Like him, Daphne has blue eyes. Both of them had ginger hair, although William's turned gray as he grew older. In almost all portraits, William Blake is depicted wearing a cravat; Daphne always wears her scarf. She also wears a pantyhose, which is a rarity in the show even among secondary characters — there are no records of William dressing similarly, but it is interesting to note that his father, James Blake, was a hosier. Daphne's characteristic colour, purple, is one that is rarely used in William's paintings, but one that is always imbued with strong symbolic significance when present. Her dress is strikingly similar to that of the girl seen in William's painting Age Teaching Youth — both have a short skirt but long sleeves with coloured cuffs. What is more, both girls have pale skin and curly hair. Hair of similar length and shape is seen elsewhere in the work of William Blake — in his sketches of Daphne, the Ancient Greek naiad; a strange detail to say the least.5 In fact, William was especially fond of the Daphne myth, as attested by Bunsho Jugaku in his study of Blake's notebook.6
Certain biographical details link these two personalities in curiously specific ways. William was the third of seven children; Daphne is the third eldest member of the group. Since two of William's siblings died in infancy, his family numbered only five children — the number of the Scooby-Doo gang. William had a troubled love life; Daphne is shown to have similar problems.78 William was physically bullied by boys from his school; Daphne suffers at the hands of villains, especially by being kidnapped.9 William was a feminist who believed strongly in the equality of the sexes; Daphne shows similar beliefs and is portrayed as Shaggy's equal, just as Velma is Fred's. In fact, William was characterised as a "proto-hippie" by the New York Times,10 and his poem Auguries of Innocence is a powerful ode to free love. He also had an "affectionate relationship" with dogs.11 He was fond of dance and night-time (eg. The Dance of Albion and The Tyger, respectively) — both commonly seen in Scooby-Doo.12 Daphne even visited William Blake's birthplace — London — in one episode.13
But Tikki! — I hear unconvinced Tikki Troops cry — is Scooby-Doo not about proving that ghosts do not exist? How does this fit with Blake claiming to have conversed with ghosts and angels in his visions? To this I say: do you not remember The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, in which Daphne talks to ghosts, just as William did? Indeed this show features more allusions to Blake. The most notable is the preponderant number of pairs — in just the first episode, we see two skulls in the opening, two bull heads on Vincent's door, two ghosts (Weerd and Bogel), two engines malfunctioning, two oxen pulling carts, and more.14 This is no doubt in reference to William Blake's grave, which is memorialised by two separate gravestones.
In his poem Eternity, William Blake writes:
He who binds himself to a joy Does the winged life destroy He who kisses the joy as it flies Lives in eternity's sunrise
He clearly did the latter, because he undeniably lives on today "in eternity's sunrise", through his paintings, through his poetry — and through Scooby-Doo.
15
For the purposes of this blessay, I will be limiting my coverage to the period of animated releases from 1969 to 1985. This is due to the fact that during this period the characters were handled by the same, original team — thus their personalities remained largely constant. ↩︎

Nightmare snarled as Ink disappeared, lunging for the bastard who had badly injured his oldest child. He shook himself after a moment and teleported over to Cross "Heal Venus as much as you can. I'm going to find a trustworthy healer who can fully heal them. Ink just kidnapped Heliotrope and tried to kill Venus."
Killer, Dust, and Hatchet were all in the room as well - good. He wasn't going to say that again until he found Dream. Nightmare opened a portal to one of the AUs he knew that the other used as a base that he could get to and ran through.
~
Four timelines later, Nightmare found Dream in a very cute little cafe, holding drinks and bags of food, clearly about to head out. He barrelled through the small and crowded place, utterly ignoring the mortals around him - he needed to get to his mate, to explain what had happened. "I need you to come home. V-Venus is... They've been hurt badly. Ink nearly... He... He just tried to kill them and he kidnapped Heliotrope."
The slightly wary and unsure expression that had first appeared on Dream's face when he'd appeared abruptly vanished, replaced by shock and horror, the other's purchases tumbling from his slackened grip. Dream teleported over to Nightmare's side "I... He... W-What? Is someone trying to stabilize them right now, which is why you didn't bring them with you for me to heal, wherever you found... Found him?" His eye lights were frightened pinpricks.
"Cross is healing them as we speak - but Cross is young and hasn't been trained how to heal properly, as no one in the castle has the capabilities for it... Will you come home with me, Starlight?"
"I... Of-Of course! I didn't know that I-Ink was thinking about d-doing something so drastic or I... I would have warned you..." Dream stuttered, hugging Nightmare close, tears threatening to fall from his eye sockets "Oh... Oh, stars. He knows that Saturn exists - I don't think that he knows that Sat is yours as well as mine but I... I want Sat home, too. He's going to want to support his big sibling, and they will recover better if our family is all together."
"I'll go get him while you heal Ven, which timeline is he in?" Nightmare responded, having already teleported the two of them out of the incredibly busy cafe and out to the sidewalk, walking with Dream so that the two of them were at the portal that he'd just created, in no mood to delay getting his oldest child treatment any more than was necessary.
"PP Outerswap 9076. He was staying at the Inn, working with Usagi and her sister to have something to do. He should be finishing up his shift soon if he hasn't already." Dream responded, half-way through the portal. "I... I'll help lock our home timeline so that this won't happen again. I... I'm sorry. I hadn't thought that Ink would do something like this."
"I know, love. I'm rather taken aback that he would do something so extreme - especially as Heliotrope is happy with Venus, and they are happy with him. Then again, from what you've told me, Ink has been very suspicious of Venus from the outset and hasn't taken the fact that his son has chosen his datemate over his family, because both of his fathers have been incredibly against the two of them dating after they realized that Venus was connected to me." Nightmare responded, grateful that Dream had agreed to ensure that none of the outcodes could enter Dreamtale. The two of them had figured out that they could do something like that, but only if both of them agreed on locking a timeline, and created the protective shielding together. The timeline itself would sustain the protection once it was up.
Dream nods, pressing a quick kiss to Nightmare's teeth "I... I'll do what I can to heal Ven. I love you, Moonstone." With that, the guardian of positivity runs through his long-time mate's portal, determined to help heal his oldest child.
~
He sprinted through the large room, kneeling next to where Venus had been carefully laid out - some of Ink's acidic paint had eaten away at the other's wings, and his hands lit up green, as he utterly ignored the startled and suspicious bad Sanses who were hovering worriedly around Ven. Cross was sputtering a little, though the much-younger skeletal monster was exhausted and his hands were glowing green faintly. "Hush all of you, I'm here to help," he instructs them as his magic weaves around Venus's form. "You've done very well stabilizing their injury, although if one of you could get some water, salt water preferably, to wash out Ink's paint from their wings, it will wash them clean and prevent the spread of the damage."
"Why the fuck are you here, and why should we do anything that you say?" Killer hissed, taking an aggressive step forward, starting to reach for him.
Dream sighed and rolled his eyes as he summoned his bubble shield, just in time too, as Dust had thrown several bone attacks at him, likely in an attempt to get him away from Venus "Who do you think Nightmare wanted to heal our child, especially as he knew that Cross doesn't have the magical inclination or strength in the area required to heal Venus up further... Although I don't know if I can heal them completely. Ink's attacks have a way of lingering, unfortunately."
"Wait... What? We know that Venus is Boss's kid... But they're yours, too?" Hatchet spluttered, all five of their auras rippling in surprise at the revelation.
"You do realize that it takes at least two beings to create new life, right? Unless one is trying to clone themself, and even then, without additional magic it can be... Tricky and dangerous to attempt to do so. I'm not surprised that he hasn't told you, though." Dream responded, rolling his eye lights as he continued to heal Venus, which was what he was mostly focused on.
Venus began to stir, their eye lights appearing and coming into focus. They reach up and lightly cup one of Dream's cheeks with a trembling hand, a hopeful smile on their face as they call out, voice trembling "P-Papa? Is that you?"
"Yes, I'm here, sweetheart. Stay still, you've been injured pretty badly. Dad came and got me, so I could fix you up. He's going to get Sat so that we're all in one place." Dream responded with a gentle smile. "You need to stay still, okay? I'll tell you when it's alright for you to move."
Venus pouts a little, but slowly lowers their arm back to the ground. "Oh.. Okay... I hurt lots, papa. Why did the mean paint blob have to hurt me?" There were tears in their eye lights as they asked: "I never did anything to him."
"... Ink can be very single-minded at times, and he's incredibly stubborn. I've been trying to get him to stop it, but he doesn't listen to me... Or anyone." Dream responded with a quiet sigh "I'll go make sure that Heelies is okay after you're healed up and feeling better." He hadn't thought that Ink would resort to murder... As the creative guardian was generally a pacifist, unless your name was Error, or you were trying to interfere with -
Ah. Venus had aided Nightmare in taking over numerous timelines... And perhaps worse yet, Ink had been increasingly convinced that Venus was somehow corrupting Heelies, turning him into a bloodthirsty minion of Nightmare's. This was far from the truth, but Dream couldn't counter-argue too much as he had no more proof than Ink did about whether or not Nightmare was trying to corrupt Heliotrope. Dream wasn't going to forgive Ink for nearly killing one of his children, however. Not when the other had so utterly miscalculated the entire situation and refused to see reason.
Nightmare and Saturn appeared just as Dream finished stabilizing and healing Venus as much as he could. The other's wounds had closed and Cross had ensured that the other would stop bleeding magic before Dream had gotten there in the first place. "Your feathers are going to need time to regrow, but apart from that, you should be fully healed." With the low positivity of this timeline, Dream was pretty much tapped out of magic.
"Ven! Papa!" Saturn cried out, sprinting over to his big sibling and his papa, desperately latching onto the both of them and trying very hard not to burst into tears. "D-Dad told me what happened... I think it's stupid that He would try to kill Ven because Heelies loves them. They love him so much, and... I-It's not right! Not for him to have hurt them like this because Heelies is rightfully mad at him for being so against the two of them dating."
Nightmare walks over to where his mate and children are, ever so carefully scooping them up, teleporting the four of them into his bedroom, and settling them down on his bed, with Venus laying down on all three of theirs' laps. "No, it's not right for Ink to have done this. But we can move forward together, and decide what to do, once Venus is fully healed, and we've all had time to calm down. For now... Staying together and resting is what all four of us need, I think."
Dream nods, his eye lights already fuzzing out as he relaxes into his beloved's touch. He jolts a little, startled when he hears a knock on the door.
"Come in, Cross." Nightmare calls out, a fond amusement in his voice.
"I... Err... Is there anything that I or the others can do to help?" Cross asks, fidgeting with his hands a little and doing his best to Be Professional. His pseudo younger sibling had very nearly been murdered today, and he wants to hug them close... But he's worried that would be intruding.
"Come here, you. You're their big brother, and they need you just as much as they need us." Dream calls out, a small smile appearing on his face as he gestures for Cross to come closer.
This causes the monochromatic skeleton to fluster a little and duck his head, glancing briefly at Nightmare before shuffling a little bit closer and then stopping. Unsure as to whether or not Dream's invitation was fully valid or not.
"Dream's right. Come here, Cross. You're part of this family." Nightmare responds as an affectionate smile spreads across his face, content to welcome the other in closer. Cross had done a great deal since coming to work for him - he'd helped bring Venus out of their shell, and he knew that Saturn interacted with Cross on occasion and adored the monochromatic skeleton as well. Cross walked over to where the four of them were sitting, and took a spot next to Saturn, sitting down and looking at Venus, a worried frown on his face, his aura pulsing with worried emotions.
Saturn nodded, smiling a little bit at Cross as he does so "I wasn't expecting to get a big brother, but I'm glad to have one... Papa, are we going to be staying with Ven, Dad, and Cross now?"
Dream hesitates for a moment, exhausted and not wanting to make this decision when so very tired and in a vulnerable state emotionally - as seeing Venus that badly injured had been a terrible shock to the positive guardian... But a shiver of cold fear ran through him at the thought of what Ink might do if he found out that Saturn was Nightmare's child as well. "Yes... I want you to be safe, and... It's safe here... Even from people that papa thought were safe, but who he probably shouldn't have trusted as much as he did in the first place..."
Nightmare hummed softly, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of the other's head "You're a caring and loving person, Dream... And I admit that I did not... React well, when you were first freed from the stasis spell, so you grabbing Saturn and fleeing across the multiverse in search of safety made sense then. Besides... I suppose that Ink is trying to protect his child, though he's not doing a very good job of it, nor trying to truly understand what is going on between Ven and Heelies."
"Yeah... He's convinced that you're Evil... n' that Venus is by association." Dream responded with a sleepy yawn "I'm pretty sure he's most annoyed by your meddling, is all..." Despite himself, Dream drifted off to sleep, snuggled into his mate and children.

DEMON, Polina Ogiy
DEMON-Evil spirits — the "fallen angels, servants of Satan, his messengers, the angels, the messengers of God. The gospel claim that sickness and brain fog occur as a result of the intervention of demons, because of their exile (often with the help of a stick) is depicted as a small black figures flying out of the mouth of the sufferer. They are depicted carrying away to Hell the soul of the sinner, as the angel carries the soul of the righteous to heaven. Or they fight with the angels for the possession of a human soul (ARS MORIENDI). Usually Satan represents paganism and demons can appear in scenes of conversion to Christianity or victory over the heathen. Have similarities with Satan (the wings, horns and tails), armed with a spear or a pitchfork. Cast them out by SV. Varfalomey SV. Zenon poverzheny at the feet of the SV. Norbert (his conversion to Christianity) SV. Geminiani (the expulsion of the spirits) SV. Catherine of Siena (overcome temptation). the attack of the demons of temptation SV. Anthony the Great is trying to tip the scale of SV. Michael's last judgment convicts pulled into Hell the last judgment the soul carry the unrepentant thief Crucified Christ being dragged soul to Hades Eurydice Orpheus whispers to Judas Iscariot blow out the candle the nuns of St. Genevieve as servants of Satan, kill children, job support in the air Simon the sorcerer SV. Peter the Apostle defeated the demons before Christ's Descent into Hell in front of the preacher (they were hunted angels) Ignatius of Loyola depart from the ship in a storm SV. Mark (cast them out three saints). Classification of demons the Origin of Demons are fallen angels: this is the official teaching of the Christian Church. I think the story of the rebellion of the angels are familiar to everyone - hints of it are in the Bible, appealing to her Christian thinkers, a brilliant literary description of Anglomania is given in j.Milton. I remind you this story briefly. Light one of God's angels named Lucifer ("light-bearer") became proud of their power and intend to take the throne of the Lord. He raised rebellion in heaven and took a third of the angelic hosts. Against the rebels was made by the Archangel Michael with the faithful God of the heavenly armies. In the resulting battle the rebellious angels led by Lucifer (Satan) were cast out of heaven into hell and became demons, whose only aim now is to sow evil. This story has many interpretations, but here we present just a completely original version of the origin of demons, is fundamentally different from the Orthodox: 1. In the middle ages there was a view that demons were originally created by God to commit evil. Advocates of this idea was based on a quote from Isaiah, where God says: "I create the waster to destroy" (54, 16). In rabbinical treatises States that Satan was created on the sixth day of creation at the same time with eve; evil spirits were created "between the suns", that is, between dusk and dawn on the eve of the first Sabbath, when God created their souls, already dawn approached Saturday, and he had no time to create bodies for them. 2. In the heretical doctrine bogomilov, as well as in folk beliefs, not get rid of pagan dualism, Satan (Satanael) is not God's creation, and the independent opposing God figure, much like the Persian Ahriman. Both forces, good and evil, participate in the process of creation of the world; in contrast to God's angels, Satan creates his demonic army, striking his staff on the flint. 3. The apocryphal Book of Enoch recounts the history of the cohabitation of the "sons of God" (angels) with the "daughters of men". The angels exchanged out of lust the Kingdom of heaven on earthly Vale, were cursed by God and became demons. This theory in the middle ages was shared by many Church authorities (eg. Thomas Aquinas). 4. In the same Book of Enoch says that marriages of fallen angels with earthly women was a tribe of monstrous giants. When God destroyed the giants, from their bodies came forth the evil spirits. 5. The ancient Hebrews believed that many evil spirits were born from the intercourse of Adam with female spirits (or eve mens perfume) within those one hundred and thirty years that Adam and eve were separated after the fall. Many demons birthed from Adam and his first wife — Lilith, later she turned into a demon. 6. In demons of three types — Shedim, Rukhin and Lilin — was turned into the part of the people, scattered after the failed construction of the tower of Babel 7. Finally, according to later popular belief, the armies of hell continually replenished by souls of great sinners; children of the damned parents, and offspring of Incubus and succubi. However, all the demons of the lowest discharge, as various vampires, ghosts and werewolves, also make up the army of Satan. The number that the demons there are a great many, no doubt. However, since the first centuries of Christianity, theologians and demonologists with remarkable tenacity practice math, trying to calculate the exact number of infernal spirits. Maxim of tyre in the 2nd century calls the very modest figure of 30,000, but subsequent centuries have inflated the part of the devil's troops to incredible limits. Alphonse de Spina in 1459, on the grounds that from God have disappeared exactly one third of the heavenly host, called the number of demons 133 306 608. In the 16th century, a researcher, taking as a basis the biblical number of the beast", it counted 66 infernal princes, commanders of 6 660 000 devils. Johann Weir, the famous disciple of Agrippa, claimed that in hell live 7 405 926 demons, managed 72 princes. The demons form 1111 6666 units for each. All surpassed the Lutheran theologians, who called a fantastic figure— 2 665 866 746 664 demon.Greek. Daimon In Greek mythology, a generalized notion of some vague and unformed divine power, evil or (sometimes) beneficent, often determines the life the fate of man. This instantly arising and instantly leaving a terrible and fatal force that can be called by the name with which you cannot engage in any communication. Suddenly maglinov, he immediately produces an action and then disappears. In this way, obvious vestiges of the so-called sudden pianism (in the terminology of G. Usener, Doctor - not that other, as "God of this moment"). Sometimes the Olympic gods, too, are called on, but only in generalized or indefinite sense in the case when God has not shown himself individually and hides your name. D. acts directly on the person preparing trouble (Hom. Od. 295 XII), tempted (XVI 194), sends trouble (XIX 512), ominous dreams (XX 87). D. directs man to the path leading to any of the events, often catastrophic (Hom. Od. VI, 172; VII, 248; Il. XXI 92). D. suddenly causes a particular idea (Hom. II. IX 600; Od. III 27). Sometimes beneficent acts. D. (Od. IX, 381), found the epithet olbiodaimon, "schastlivenko". D. is equal to destiny, all the events of human life are under his influence (Aeschyl. Pers. 825; Soph. frg. 592; Eur. Andr. 971). There is D. of birth (Pind. Ol. XIII 105), D. of good and evil (Pind. Pyth. III 34), human nature - its On (Heraclit. frg. 119), each person in life gets your D. (Plat. Phaed. 107 (d). Demons are thought of also inferior deities, intermediaries between gods and men. In Hesiod's generation of the "Golden age" after his disappearance turned into a "blissful." that guard people and look to the right and wrong of the case (Hes. Orr. 121-126). In Roman mythology D. corresponds to a genius. Early Christian ideas about D. are associated with the demonic image of evil, demonic forces (see Demons). Lit.: Losev A. F., classical mythology in its historical development, Moscow, 1957, p. 46-60; Horst P. C. van, Daimon, "Mnemosyne", ser. 3, 10, 1940, pp. 61-68; H. Nowak, Zur Entwicklungsgeschichte des Begriffes Daimon, Bonn, I960. A. F. Losev In the descriptions of the mythologies of various peoples. D. - the symbol of those supernatural characters who are not gods and occupy in comparison with the gods of the lower place in the hierarchy (or are at lower levels in this mythological system). In a more narrow and precise meaning. D. and evil spirits. According to the classification proposed by Uthenera and supported by E. Cassirer, we must distinguish between (spirit) as a symbol of random mythological image that is generated from any object within the field of action of mythological thought, and genius as a symbol of the mythological symbol of the destiny and personality of man.

So ... the conversation between Mikey and Anael/Jo made it look like Anael is not just a slight Cas mirror but extremely mirroring Cas now ... I'm interested as to where this is going ...
Hey,Nonnie! Ikr? I’m just as interested in this as you are.
That convobetween Michael and Anael/Jo made me remember the first time Cas was directlyasked what he wanted, back in season 9, precisely at a time when he was Castiel/Steve.
Remember Cas’exchange with Ephraim in 9x06?
CASTIEL: I want to live.
EPHRAIM: But as what, Castiel? As an angel? Ora man?
It’sinteresting to see that Castiel is not the only angel that has very “human”wants. Michael revealed what Anael really wants, while addressing her by herhuman name rather than her angelic one. And what is it that she wants?
“Love. To belong, to have a place –a home, a family”.
It’sinteresting that LOVE is the first thing he says, without explaining what kindof love that is. Romantic, familial, or both? It’s not like Supernatural has been poking at the romantic vs familial love since season 9, the same season when Cas was asked what he wanted. (Remember the love… and love from 9x02 or the whole Cain-Colette-Abel conundrum).
Anyway, let’s go back to Anael. The fact that she wants love is notexactly new information. Last season she let us see a little of whatshe really felt when she had this conversation with Lucifer (ep 13):
SISTER JO: It’salways so strange. That final moment. When I’ve lost just enough grace that I’malmost…
LUCIFER: Human?
SISTER JO: Ifeel emotions, sensations, things they must feel.
LUCIFER: Yeah,I had that experience. I didn’t like it. Hunger, cold, loneliness. I don’t knowhow they keep going.
SISTER JO: Ido. When I’m in that place, I can see how there’d be pain, BUT THERE’S ALSO HOPE, LOVE EVEN. ANGELS CAN ONLY IMAGINE. SometimesI envy humans.
Do youremember someone else who has talked about hope and love in another seasonpremiere? (ep 10x01)
HANNAH: Withoutrules, there is chaos. Out of chaos rise angels like Naomi, Bartholomew…Metatron.
CASTIEL: Well, perhaps I’ve been down here with them for too long. There’s seemingly nothingbut chaos. BUT NOT ALL BAD COMES FROMIT. ART. HOPE. LOVE. DREAMS.
HANNAH: But those are human things.
CASTIEL: Yes.
I’m addingall that in case the parallel between Jo and Cas is not clear enough. Thismeans we can safely assume that Cas’ answer to the “what do you want?” questionwould be very similar to Jo’s; he would want something very human: LOVE.
But whatelse would Cas want?
“TO BELONG” (ep 12x03)
MARY: Castiel? After you left heaven, when did it start to feel like… like you fit, likeyou… belonged here?
CASTIEL:Well, I’m still not sure I do.
“TO HAVE A PLACE –A HOME”
“A FAMILY”
Now that Jack’s feeling useless without his powers, it’s noteven surprising that Cas chose to remind him that he has a family. Cas has a lot of experience with feelinguseless and expendable, and probably with wanting someone to offer him exactlythose words.
So what canwe expect for Cas from now on?
I think nothing that we haven’t been expectingfor the last 5 years (or at least I have). The core question for him is STILLTHE SAME:
As what [doyou want to live], Castiel? As an angel? Or a man?
As a writer, you don’tpose such a question unless you pretend to answer it at some point. The only problemwith it is that it’s an endgame sort of question, so the longer Supernaturalruns, the longer it’ll take for Cas to give his final answer.
I’m stillconvinced Cas will choose humanity (and not just because of Dean HumanityWinchester), but because of everything else.
Let’sremember what Anael told Lucifer last season (ep 13):
“After the fall, when we lost our wings, Iwasn’t devastated. I was liberated. I was finally free”.
Castiel, just as Anael, is the rebel, the one who doesn’t like to play by Heaven’srules. People who think Cas’ endgame is to continue being an angel have missedthe point. Just as Anael is being referred to as Jo now, Castiel is referred toas Cas. The only way for him to be liberated and finally free is by being ableto feel the spectrum of emotions and sensations angels can only imagine.
Most of thetime Cas has done things because HE HAD TO. But as Michael would ask him:
WHAT DO YOU WANT, CAS?
PS: Because I’m a good person, I’m not going to point out to anyone that when Cas is told he’s family or that he’s being taken home, the one saying those words is Dean Winchester.
PPS: I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

The Desire of Ages, pp. 43-49: Chapter (4) Unto You a Saviour
This chapter is based on Luke 2:1-20.
The King of glory stooped low to take humanity. Rude and forbidding were His earthly surroundings. His glory was veiled, that the majesty of His outward form might not become an object of attraction. He shunned all outward display. Riches, worldly honor, and human greatness can never save a soul from death; Jesus purposed that no attraction of an earthly nature should call men to His side. Only the beauty of heavenly truth must draw those who would follow Him. The character of the Messiah had long been foretold in prophecy, and He desired men to accept Him upon the testimony of the word of God.
The angels had wondered at the glorious plan of redemption. They watched to see how the people of God would receive His Son, clothed in the garb of humanity. Angels came to the land of the chosen people. Other nations were dealing in fables and worshiping false gods. To the land where the glory of God had been revealed, and the light of prophecy had shone, the angels came. They came unseen to Jerusalem, to the appointed expositors of the Sacred Oracles, and the ministers of God's house. Already to Zacharias the priest, as he ministered before the altar, the nearness of Christ's coming had been announced. Already the forerunner was born, his mission attested by miracle and prophecy. The tidings of his birth and the wonderful significance of his mission had been spread abroad. Yet Jerusalem was not preparing to welcome her Redeemer.
With amazement the heavenly messengers beheld the indifference of that people whom God had called to communicate to the world the light of sacred truth. The Jewish nation had been preserved as a witness that Christ was to be born of the seed of Abraham and of David's line; yet they knew not that His coming was now at hand. In the temple the morning and the evening sacrifice daily pointed to the Lamb of God; yet even here was no preparation to receive Him. The priests and teachers of the nation knew not that the greatest event of the ages was about to take place. They rehearsed their meaningless prayers, and performed the rites of worship to be seen by men, but in their strife for riches and worldly honor they were not prepared for the revelation of the Messiah. The same indifference pervaded the land of Israel. Hearts selfish and world-engrossed were untouched by the joy that thrilled all heaven. Only a few were longing to behold the Unseen. To these heaven's embassy was sent.
Angels attend Joseph and Mary as they journey from their home in Nazareth to the city of David. The decree of imperial Rome for the enrollment of the peoples of her vast dominion has extended to the dwellers among the hills of Galilee. As in old time Cyrus was called to the throne of the world's empire that he might set free the captives of the Lord, so Caesar Augustus is made the agent for the fulfillment of God's purpose in bringing the mother of Jesus to Bethlehem. She is of the lineage of David, and the Son of David must be born in David's city. Out of Bethlehem, said the prophet, “shall He come forth ... that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from the days of eternity.” Micah 5:2, margin. But in the city of their royal line, Joseph and Mary are unrecognized and unhonored. Weary and homeless, they traverse the entire length of the narrow street, from the gate of the city to the eastern extremity of the town, vainly seeking a resting place for the night. There is no room for them at the crowded inn. In a rude building where the beasts are sheltered, they at last find refuge, and here the Redeemer of the world is born.
Men know it not, but the tidings fill heaven with rejoicing. With a deeper and more tender interest the holy beings from the world of light are drawn to the earth. The whole world is brighter for His presence. Above the hills of Bethlehem are gathered an innumerable throng of angels. They wait the signal to declare the glad news to the world. Had the leaders in Israel been true to their trust, they might have shared the joy of heralding the birth of Jesus. But now they are passed by.
God declares, “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground.” “Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness.” Isaiah 44:3; Psalm 112:4. To those who are seeking for light, and who accept it with gladness, the bright rays from the throne of God will shine.
In the fields where the boy David had led his flock, shepherds were still keeping watch by night. Through the silent hours they talked together of the promised Saviour, and prayed for the coming of the King to David's throne. “And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
At these words, visions of glory fill the minds of the listening shepherds. The Deliverer has come to Israel! Power, exaltation, triumph, are associated with His coming. But the angel must prepare them to recognize their Saviour in poverty and humiliation. “This shall be a sign unto you,” he says; “Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
The heavenly messenger had quieted their fears. He had told them how to find Jesus. With tender regard for their human weakness, he had given them time to become accustomed to the divine radiance. Then the joy and glory could no longer be hidden. The whole plain was lighted up with the bright shining of the hosts of God. Earth was hushed, and heaven stooped to listen to the song,—“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Oh that today the human family could recognize that song! The declaration then made, the note then struck, will swell to the close of time, and resound to the ends of the earth. When the Sun of Righteousness shall arise, with healing in His wings, that song will be re-echoed by the voice of a great multitude, as the voice of many waters, saying, “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.” Revelation 19:6.
As the angels disappeared, the light faded away, and the shadows of night once more fell on the hills of Bethlehem. But the brightest picture ever beheld by human eyes remained in the memory of the shepherds. “And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.”
Departing with great joy, they made known the things they had seen and heard. “And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God.”
Heaven and earth are no wider apart today than when shepherds listened to the angels’ song. Humanity is still as much the object of heaven's solicitude as when common men of common occupations met angels at noonday, and talked with the heavenly messengers in the vineyards and the fields. To us in the common walks of life, heaven may be very near. Angels from the courts above will attend the steps of those who come and go at God's command.
The story of Bethlehem is an exhaustless theme. In it is hidden “the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God.” Romans 11:33. We marvel at the Saviour's sacrifice in exchanging the throne of heaven for the manger, and the companionship of adoring angels for the beasts of the stall. Human pride and self-sufficiency stand rebuked in His presence. Yet this was but the beginning of His wonderful condescension. It would have been an almost infinite humiliation for the Son of God to take man's nature, even when Adam stood in his innocence in Eden. But Jesus accepted humanity when the race had been weakened by four thousand years of sin. Like every child of Adam He accepted the results of the working of the great law of heredity. What these results were is shown in the history of His earthly ancestors. He came with such a heredity to share our sorrows and temptations, and to give us the example of a sinless life.
Satan in heaven had hated Christ for His position in the courts of God. He hated Him the more when he himself was dethroned. He hated Him who pledged Himself to redeem a race of sinners. Yet into the world where Satan claimed dominion God permitted His Son to come, a helpless babe, subject to the weakness of humanity. He permitted Him to meet life's peril in common with every human soul, to fight the battle as every child of humanity must fight it, at the risk of failure and eternal loss.
The heart of the human father yearns over his son. He looks into the face of his little child, and trembles at the thought of life's peril. He longs to shield his dear one from Satan's power, to hold him back from temptation and conflict. To meet a bitterer conflict and a more fearful risk, God gave His only-begotten Son, that the path of life might be made sure for our little ones. “Herein is love.” Wonder, O heavens! and be astonished, O earth!

dicionário de símbolos : Cirlot, J. E. (1995). A dictionary of symbols. Routledge. parte2
p.24. Bee: In Egyptian hieroglyphic language, the sign of the bee was a determinative in royal nomenclature, partly by analogy with the monarchic organization of these insects, but more especially because of the ideas of industry, creative activity and wealth which are associated with the production of honey (19). In the parable of Samson (Judges xiv, 8) the bee appears in this same sense. In Greece it was emblematic of work and obedience. According to a Delphic tradition, the second of the temples built in Delphi had been erected by bees. In Orphic teaching, souls were symbolized by bees, not only because of the association with honey but also because they migrate from the hive in swarms, since it was held that souls ‘swarm’ from the divine unity in a similar manner (40). In Christian symbolism, and particularly during the Romanesque period, bees were symbols of diligence and eloquence (20). In the Indo-Aryan and Moslem traditions they have the same purely spiritual significance as in Orphic teaching (50).
p.24. Bell: Its sound is a symbol of creative power (4). Since it is in a hanging position, it partakes of the mystic significance of all objects which are suspended between heaven and earth. It is related, by its shape, to the vault and, consequently, to the heavens.
p.28. Birds: Birds are very frequently used to symbolize human souls, some of the earliest examples being found in the art of ancient Egypt. Sometimes, they are depicted with human heads, as in Hellenic iconography. In the Mirach it is written that, when Mohammed went to heaven, he found, standing in the middle of a great square, the Tree of Life whose fruit restores youth to all those who eat of it. This Tree of Life is surrounded by groves and avenues of leafy trees on whose boughs perch many birds, brilliantly coloured and singing melodiously: these are the souls of the faithful. The souls of evildoers, on the other hand, are incarnated in birds of prey (46). Generally speaking, birds, like angels, are symbols of thought, of imagination and of the swiftness of spiritual processes and relationships. They pertain to the Element of air and, as noted in connexion with the eagle, they denote ‘height’ and—consequently—’loftiness’ of spirit. This general symbolism has sometimes been narrowed down excessively to the particular, as often happens in traditional symbolism. Thus, Odo of Tusculum, in his sermon XCII, describes different kinds of spirituality in men in terms of the characteristics of different kinds of birds. Some birds, he says, are guileless, such as the dove; others, cunning like the partridge; some come to the hand, like the hawk, others flee from it, like the hen; some enjoy the company of men, like the swallow; others prefer solitude and the desert, like the turtle-dove. . . . Lowflying birds symbolize an earth-bound attitude; high-flying birds, spiritual longing
p.32. Breathing: Symbolically, to breathe is to assimilate spiritual power. Yoga exercises place particular emphasis upon breathing, since it enables man to absorb not only air but also the light of the sun. Concerning solar light, the alchemists had this to say: ‘It is a fiery substance, a continuous emanation of solar corpuscles which, owing to the movement of the sun and the astral bodies, is in a perpetual state of flux and change, filling all the universe. . . . We breathe this astral gold continuously.’ The two movements—positive and negative—of breathing are connected with the circulation of the blood and with the important symbolic paths of involution and evolution (3). Difficulty in breathing may therefore symbolize difficulty in assimilating the principles of the spirit and of the cosmos. The ‘proper rhythm’ of Yoga-breathing is associated with the ‘proper voice’ demanded by the Egyptians for the ritual reading of the sacred texts. Both are founded upon imitation of the rhythms of the universe.
pp.35. Butterfly: Among the ancients, an emblem of the soul and of unconscious attraction towards the light (8). The purification of the soul by fire, represented in Romanesque art by the burning ember placed by the angel in the prophet’s mouth, is visually portrayed on a small Mattei urn by means of an image of love holding a butterfly close to a flame (8). The Angel of Death was represented by the Gnostics as a winged foot crushing a butterfly, from which we may deduce that the butterfly was equated with life rather than with the soul in the sense of the spirit or transcendent being (36). This also explains why psychoanalysis regards the butterfly as a symbol of rebirth (56). In China, it has the secondary meanings of joy and conjugal bliss (5).

Hey. I’m kind of new to hockey and I would like to have a sort of a masterpost ? Or if you could guide me that’d be great. Thanks !
I sincerely hope you’re asking for a sort of hockey overview (rules, structure, etc.) bc that’s what I’m reading this as and that’s how I’m going to answer
okay so I looked through the tags for a while thinking there would already be something somewhere (and I’m sure there is) but I couldn’t find anything and I can’t think of a specific post that I’m aware of rn, so, I’m just going to make one myself
warning: this is rly long and I could not for the life of me make the read more work, pls forgive me, I will tag it as “long post”
so I’m totally cool with making this and none of this is meant to be condescending, only informational!
1. makeup of the NHL
there are 2 conferences (eastern and western) and 4 divisions (atlantic, metropolitan, central, and pacific)
the eastern conference is made up of:
the atlantic division, wherein you’ll find gems such as the: detroit red wings (wings), ottawa senators (sens), florida panthers (cats), buffalo sabres, toronto maple leafs (leafs), montreal canadiens (habs), boston bruins (b’s), and tampa bay lightning (bolts)
and the metropolitan division, wherein you’ll find beauties by the name of the: carolina hurricanes (canes), philadelphia flyers, washington capitals (caps), new york islanders (isles), columbus blue jackets (cbj, jackets), new jersey devils (devs), new york rangers (rags), and pittsburgh penguins (pens)
the western conference is made up of:
the central divisions, wherein you’ll find stunners such as the: nashville predators (preds), winnipeg jets, st. louis blues, minnesota wild, dallas stars, colorado avalanche (avs), and chicago blackhawks (hawks, trash)
and the pacific division, wherein you’ll find catches by the name of the: edmonton oilers, vancouver canucks (nucks), calgary flames, san jose sharks, arizona coyotes (yotes), los angeles kings, vegas golden knights (vgk, knights), and anaheim ducks
vegas is the newest team, which gave the pacific a full 8-team division, making the central division the only one with 7 teams, however, seattle’s probably getting a team in the near future and you’d think they’d belong in the pacific as well, so who tf knows what the divisions will look like in a few years :-) (this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve changed)
teams in the same division play each other 4 times a year (2 home, 2 away), every team plays each other at least twice every season (1 home, 1 away), and a team from one division can play a team from the other division in their conference 3 times a year, depending on how the scheduling works out
2. basic rules and structure for a hockey game
- a hockey game is 60 minutes, 20 minutes per 3 periods with 2 intermissions, but, generally, with stoppages and real-world timing, a hockey game last about 2 ½ to 3 hours
- there are 6 players from each team on the ice at a time, 3 forwards (right wing, centre, and left wing), 2 defensemen (right and left), and 1 goalie; each team will have with them on the bench 4 lines of forwards (12 guys), 3 defensemen pairs (6 guys), and 2 goalies (starter and backup) - some coaches, instead of 12/6, like to do 11/7, which means taking away a forward in favour of another defenseman, which basically means that some forwards will be taking double shifts and you’ll have an extra d-man to play so they essentially don’t get tired out as fast
- okay so the guy with the puck, on his way into the opponent’s zone (past the blue line) has to enter before any of his teammates, or at least the puck has got to cross the line first; the dudes on the other team can go in whenever bc it’s their own zone, but when you’re on offense, puck first - if you come before the puck, that’s called offside and the linesmen will stop the play and have a faceoff outside of your opponent’s zone
- you can’t just shoot the puck all the way down the ice into the opponent’s zone! that’s called icing - you can shoot it in from centre ice, but not from your zone all the way into the other guys’ zone; if you ice the puck, the linesmen will stop the play and the faceoff will come back in your own zone
- also, the referees (who call penalties) wear the orange armbands and the linesmen do not (they call the offsides and icings)
- nobody knows wtf goalie interference is anymore in the league so it’s best not to ask
which brings me to my next point
3. penalties
- the first thing to remember is that you will never fully agree with all of the refs’ calls as you become more familiar with the game, and yeah, sometimes it’s gonna screw over your team, but that’s hockey
- if your team gets a penalty, that means you’ll be playing 4 guys instead of 5, while the other team (on a power play) will have all 5 guys (plus goalies, of course), and your penalized dude gets to sit in the penalty box (aka sin bin) for 2-5 minutes, depending on what he did and what the call is
- a delayed penalty is when team 1 is called for a penalty, but team 2 (who is about to go on the power play, or pp) is still in control of the puck, so team 2′s goalie goes to the bench (since any goals here by team 1 won’t count) and they get an extra 6th man, and the penalty will be called as soon as team 1 touches the puck (or a goal is scored, and then no penalty)
- you can get a 2, 4, or 5 minute penalty, as well as a 10 minute game misconduct - 2 minutes is minor penalty, 4 minutes is a double minor, and 5 minutes is a major
- 2-minute minors: hooking, crosschecking, tripping, elbowing, highsticking (no blood), kneeing, unsportsmanlike conduct (mouthing off to the refs, ususally), too many men on the ice, and a variety of other things that I either can’t remember rn or don’t get called very often (like tucking your jersey into your pants) - these penalties end immediately if the team on a power play scores
- 4-minute double minors: generally this is for when you highstick someone and they start bleeding - if the power play team scores during the first 2 minutes, only that penalty ends (in other words, still 2 minutes to go), if they score in the second 2 minutes, then the penalty is altogether over
- 5-minute majors: fighting, boarding, spearing, charging, anything that’s more serious - the power play team can score as many times as they want during this penalty and the penalty will not end until the 5 minutes is up
- 10-minute misconduct: this is for when you’re rly being an asshole - mouthing off, seriously injuring a player, and so on, and you can either sit in the penalty box for 10 minutes (your team will not face a penalty for this, just the player) or you might just get kicked out of the game (say it’s the first or second period and there’s 10 minutes or less left, the player will probably just be sent to the dressing room for the misconduct and potentially return the next period)
- and above all else, a player rly can just kicked out of a game, especially if they’ve done something that is worthy of a fine or a suspension, which will be reviewed after the game
- also, both teams can get a penalty, which results in 4-on-4 hockey, and a team can get 2 penalties, which results in 5-on-3 hockey (or like 4-on-3 sometimes, if team 1 has 1 penalty and team 2 has 2)
4. wins, losses, OT, and SO
- if your team wins a game in regulation, congrats, you get 2 full points!
- if your team loses in regulation, you get 0 points :(
- OT (overtime) is when a game is still tied after 3 periods; each team gets 1 point, and the game is now going to sudden-death (someone scores, game over) 5 minute 3-on-3 hockey (yes, 3-on-3, 2 forwards and 1 d-man) - whoever scores now gets the full 2 points
- if that doesn’t solve it, we got to a SO (shootout), which involves 1-on-1 goalie vs. shooter, each team gets 3 shooters to start, the shooters rotate, and whoever scores the most goals wins (if no goals are scored by these 6 shooters, or it’s still tied, it goes to 1-shooter rounds until one team scores and the other doesn’t), winner gets 2 points
5. other general stuff
- come playoff time (only like a month away now), if you want a crash course on that, I’ll be happy to help, since I could do a whole new thing just for that
- if a player’s last name is kane, chances are they are a bad person (feel free to ask me for players that have done some shitty stuff, if you care to know that stuff)
- hockey tumblr is uh… an interesting place, take this as a warning, there are lots of nice ppl I’ve met here, but there are also a lot of opinions and it can get ugly
- there are also NHL awards and an entry draft at the end of the season, which you can ask me about, too (in June, that’s when it all takes place!)
- trades suck sometimes but luckily the trade deadline is over for this season (which was a week ago), so no more trades can be made until after someone wins the stanley cup this year
- there is an all-star weekend in January and that’s always a hoot
- every team has an AHL team affiliate, which is where they keep players that they can call up if someone gets injured, and where players develop so that they can be the best-conditioned player for the NHL before making it to the big league, and they play for their own cup (the Calder Cup, which the Grand Rapids Griffins, affiliate of the Red Wings, won last year)
- each team also has an ECHL team, which is a step under the AHL, like a reserve-reserve team
- if need be, I can also explain how call ups and waivers work, too
- the top three stanley cup winning teams are the: habs (24), leafs (13), and wings (11) - everyone else is pretty far from those totals
- here’s a link to some hockey blogs I like and follow (some of the urls might not be right, but the links should still take you to the right place)
- pls feel free to ask about anything else, I will try my best to explain it!
- you can also ask me about teams and players, specifically, but any of that would just be my own opinion on them and not necessarily a reflection of which teams and players ppl on here like (my fav teams are the wings and sens, and my fav players from each of those teams are Gustav Nyquist (right winger) and Erik Karlsson (d-man), and my fav goalie is Petr Mrazek, who now plays for the flyers)
hope this is helpful and what you were looking for :)
#long post#if any info in here isn't correct pls correct me#hockey#hockey crash course#ask#anon#when I was looking for a hockey rules overview post I fucking found all the stuff from 'rules to dating a hockey player'#remember that mess yikes

Historical Hour With Hilary: 1x10
It’s been a couple weeks, so you can get up to speed here. But what we definitely want to do is head to September 25, 1780, and the most famous traitor in American history (justified or otherwise) for a whole lotta revelations about the Capture of Benedict Arnold...
It’s no secret that this is my favorite episode, and perhaps it’s then no surprise that the history that surrounds it is so fascinating (and terrifying): a mix of eighteenth-century parlor intrigue, Revolutionary War spy rings, plotted betrayals, secret societies, and much, much more, including some major connections to the present day. But it’s also the episode where we discover, alas, that the Time Team (or at least the screenwriters) Did Not Think This Through, and really should have figured this out at least eight episodes ago. I love that Rittenhouse is based on real history, and especially one guy, but, well. When it’s taken your heroes ten episodes to realize something that could have been solved in five minutes with a quick Google search, that, my friends, is called a plot hole. I will overlook it for the sake of things, but yes.
First things first: Benedict Arnold, the second man in Western history (after Judas Iscariot) whose name has become synonymous with “traitor.” (And zomgz, he betrayed America that’s really bad. /clutches pearls/). As Lucy points out in the episode, however, his reasons for doing so were complicated. The Battles of Saratoga in 1777 are cited in every single account of the Revolution as the turning point to victory for the Americans, and they were only won because of the nearly single-handed, overwhelmingly heroic efforts of Arnold. A monument to his wounded leg exists on the battlefield, and as we also see in the episode, it never fully healed. Congress didn’t recognize Arnold’s efforts, he was passed over for promotion, and he disapproved of the proposed alliance with the French. He had spent a great deal of money on the cause already and was hard up for funds, and his young second wife, Margaret “Peggy” Shippen Arnold, was a devoted Tory (and was almost certainly involved in helping him come up with the treason plan). It was on 23 September 1780 when the British spy with whom Arnold had been corresponding, Major John Andre, was caught and the plot to turn West Point over to the British was revealed, forcing Arnold to flee. On 25 September, he wrote to Washington pleading for mercy for Peggy, but he had of course made a grave mistake in jumping ship for the losing side, and the victorious Americans made sure to thoroughly revile him down the years. (Arnold’s family papers are now in Harvard University special collections.)
The technique that the Time Team uses to chase Arnold into enemy territory (pretending to be defectors as well) was the actual one used by John Champe, the man sent after Arnold on the orders of George Washington and his close associate, Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, a talented cavalry officer from a prominent Virginia family. In one of the most monumental cases of irony in hindsight in history, Henry Lee is probably more familiar as the father of... Robert E. Lee. Yep. That Robert E. Lee. Let’s just let this sink in for a second. Robert E. Lee’s father helped George Washington try to catch a talented, high-profile general who had traitorously turned against his country during a war. (Henry Lee also gave the famous eulogy of Washington at his funeral in 1799.)
Awkward.
The Culper Ring of spies actually did play some part in the attempted apprehension of Arnold, as well as serving as Washington’s sophisticated intelligence network throughout the war, using code names, dead drops, encrypted messages, and other familiar tools of espionage to pass information through their associates in Long Island. So yes, they had a spy on the inside, that’s right... Hercules Mulligan! (Also: Mulligan’s slave, Cato, was one of the Culper Ring’s trusted agents as well, and no, he was not a free man. Just in case you forget that, you know, the Founding Fathers were slaveholders. Mulligan did, however, help found the New York Manumission Society with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay in 1785, so... he’s got that going for him?)
And now, therefore, we reach the Big Problem with this episode: David Rittenhouse (and not that he’s, at least in Timeless-verse, a horrible creeper). Because frankly, I gotta call serious, serious BS on a) Lucy not knowing about this guy to start with, and b) everyone being aware that “Rittenhouse” was a big part of whatever’s happening, but apparently not bothering to do so much as five minutes of a Google search. Because that would have answered their question right away, they could have headed to the eighteenth century, gotten this done much more efficiently, and... yes. I’m judging.
As noted in that link above, David Rittenhouse was a famous astronomer, clockmaker, inventor, philosopher, professor at the University of Pennsylvania (there is the David Rittenhouse Laboratory on campus, and the popular Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia) and was widely admired by Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and others. He made a beautiful orrery (model of the universe) that’s still on display at UPenn. You can join the Rittenhouse Astronomical Society, and there’s a crater named Rittenhouse on the moon. He clearly exists in the Timeless verse, in his proper historical moment, so what, Lucy, who knows everything about even obscure American historical events, just... doesn’t know about this guy at all? Even if we allow that fictional Rittenhouse may have tried to suppress records about itself post-1780, David had already given a lecture to the American Philosophical Society on February 24, 1775 that so impressed them that copies were ordered printed out and distributed to the delegates of the Constitutional Convention. In it, Rittenhouse muses on the possibility of extraordinary achievements in the name of mankind, and also (unlike his slave-owning fictional counterpart) decries slavery, in the context of imagining the possibility of contact with aliens from other planets:
Our religion teaches us what philosophy could not have taught, and we ought to admire with reverence the great things it has pleased divine Providence to perform, beyond the ordinary course of nature [such as time travel, one wonders?] for man, who is undoubtedly the most noble inhabitant of this globe. [...] Happy people! and perhaps more happy still, that all communication with us is denied. We have neither corrupted you with our vices, nor injured you by violence. None of your sons and daughters, degraded from their native dignity, have been doomed to endless slavery by us in America, merely because their bodies may be disposed to reflect or absorb the rays of light, in a way different from ours. (pp. 565-66).
Hmm. It’s hard to escape the feeling that poor ol’ Dave Rittenhouse has gotten a bit of the shaft in Timeless’ version of him (though that lecture is definitely creepy in the eighteenth-century-idealism way if you read it through). Rittenhouse seems considerably based on the Illuminati (yes, they’re real too), a secret society founded in Bavaria in 1778, and which was considered to really get going in 1780, the way Rittenhouse is in Timeless canon. It held to the same project of wanting its members to benevolently exercise power from the shadows for the betterment of all humankind (and thus their “illumination” or enlightenment). It was quickly suppressed, and almost immediately accused of plotting to overthrow various governments, as the eighteenth-century version of Alex Jones would like to tell you in his 1798 book, Proofs of a conspiracy against all the religions and gouvernments of Europe, carried on in the secret meetings of Free Masons, Illuminati, and Reading Societies. They were also blamed for inciting the French Revolution, in the 1801 On the Influence Attributed to Philosophers, Free-masons, and to the Illuminati, on the Revolution of France.
Conspiracy theories! Ah, those go way back. So, Rittenhouse isn’t real, right? Just a fictional version of a small group of powerful and dangerous crazy guys who control America today, and that’s not actually...
Oh, shit.
The “Fellowship” or “the Family,” the subject of an absolutely terrifying 2008 book by award-winning journalist and Dartmouth professor Jeff Sharlet, is the most powerful right-wing (and I mean hard right wing) conservative Christian political lobby group in Washington. They are just like Rittenhouse, but you know, real: they take a vow of secrecy, no public information is available from them, they count a huge number of American senators/congressmen, corporate executives, government officials, and international politicians among their ranks, they feel they are above the law, and they’ve been responsible for funding dictators and bloody regimes throughout the world. Remember Uganda’s heinous “Kill The Gays” bill? Yeah, that was them. The Family is described as “anti-labor, anti-gay, and pro-life. It is also anti-communist, but not necessarily a firm believer in democracy. Rather, it favors a totalitarianism for Christ, a sort of Christian theocracy. In foreign policy, it promotes a “soft” U.S. expansionism.”
The Los Angeles Times attempted to examine their membership and other document records (before the archives were sealed) and corroborated many of the claims in Sharlet’s book (and the Harper’s article he released before it). That bastion of radical left-wing journalism, Newsweek, wrote in September 2009:
The Fellowship, as this group is called, has the slimmest scrap of a Web site. Nothing about its organizational structure is visible to the public: not its board of directors, nor its executive team, nor its mission statement, nor its 200 subsidiary ministries, nor its national or global membership. (For, as its surrogates tell me, there are no "members.") [...] The Fellowship is 75 years old. It organizes the National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event attended by 3,000 people from all over the world who pay hundreds of dollars per ticket to pray, ecumenically, with the president himself. Some of the world's most powerful people are included in its circles—as regulars or merely occasional participants. It flies business and political leaders abroad to meet with other "friends"— heads of state and local despots—in the name of Jesus. But it is in the midst of a PR crisis: Sharlet has leveled certain substantive charges that demand answers.
Defenders of the “Family” insist it’s a completely innocuous Christian advocacy group, certainly not like those crazies Focus on the Family or Christian Coalition, that promotes cross-party unity and prayer, and that this is all a paranoid left-wing view of their activities. Having read Sharlet’s book, I can concede there are times when he comes off pretty alarmist. But on the whole, his research is thorough, his conclusions are terrifying, and when the organization itself admits that’s pretty much what it does (it denied that it existed until 2009, which isn’t suspicious at all for your nice little Capitol Hill prayer group), and there’s bupkis that we can do about it, since it’s still going on right now... I mean?
Sleep tight, kiddies!
Next week: We head to the World’s Fair 1893, and the Devil in the White City.
