Yutaka Ozaki

(1965 - 1992) was a Japanese singer-songwriter. 

In December 1983, while still in high school, he made his debut with the single "Fifteen Nights" and the album "Seventeen-Year-Old Map". 

His flamboyant live performances and straightforward songs about dreams, love, and the meaning of life made them very popular among young people of their generation.

Ozaki's exposure to music began when he picked up a classical guitar that his older brother had purchased and was not using. 

Ozaki was interested in all kinds of folk songs and the songs of singer-songwriters, and was especially attracted to the world of lyrics depicted by Yosui Inoue.

In the sixth grade of elementary school, he refused to go to school for six months, during which time he spent his days playing the guitar and singing the songs of Yosui Inoue, Masashi Sada, and Iruka.

In the fall of his sophomore year of high school, Ozaki decided to make a living from music and applied for the "CBS/SONY Sound Development Audition 1982"  and passed the audition.

In his teenage years, he sang many songs with themes of "rebellion and questioning society" and "anti-domination," and was called a "teenage guru" by the mass media.

Ozaki, who had taken the world by storm, suddenly declared an indefinite hiatus at the age of 20 after losing his sense of direction and went to the United States by himsel.  

After his comeback, his song "Taiyo no Shards" became a hit, and he made his first and last TV appearance on Fuji Television's "Yoru no Hit Studio"

In 1990 released a double album, "Birth," which reached No. 1 on the Oricon charts. The following year, Ozaki made a complete comeback, touring extensively.

In his 20s, Ozaki wrote more songs about "true love," "redemption," and "sin," as opposed to the "freedom" and "anti-domination" songs of the past.

In April 1992, at the age of 26, he died suddenly and was reported daily in the media. Thirty years after his death, he is still widely popular and his songs have been covered by many artists.

He was strongly influenced by Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Shogo Hamada, Motoharu Sano, Yosui Inoue, Anarchy, Kai Band, and Masashi Sada.

His eldest son, Hiroya Ozaki, is also a singer-songwriter.
