I have never felt this compelled or possessed to write a fic. This should hopefully be done today or tomorrow? It’s just a little one-shot. I’m just sharing because I haven’t felt this much of an itch to write in over a year or so.

Get Ready...!!
Tumblr media
It’s the start of the 1st Quarter 2021 Inuyasha Fandom Awards!!
We hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season as we kick off the new year! A huge shout-out to everyone who participated last quarter and made it such a huge success! We look forward to all the amazing new fanfiction and fanart to be nominated and shared with this beautiful community!
Before we get started, there have been a few changes that have been made during our brief hiatus.
We want to give a shout-out to @britonell for always being so generous with her time and talent with creating award banners. (If you have not yet received your award banner for last quarter, please reach out to one of the mods asap!)
There are also some changes coming to the categories that may effect you as nominators:
Considering we now have a storyline in regards to Yashahime, we are now allowing works to be nominated into Fanfiction categories. However, because the storyline is not fleshed out enough and a lot of large parts are missing still, we will NOT accept any Yashahime works into the Best Canon Fanfiction category until more has been revealed. If there are any questions on this, please feel free to reach out to the mod-team.
Our Roulette category for fanfiction this quarter will be Best Canon Divergence Fanfiction. This is defined as: Anything that walks outside of Takahashi’s original vision, but includes some key defining moments from the original canon universe. Anything that starts in the World created by Takahashi and is taken to a different outcome. For this quarter, we are splitting the Best AU/AR category. The new definition for Best AU/AR Fanfiction this quarter is: Anything that walks outside of Takahashi's vision. Anything that moves the characters outside of Takahashi's setting of Feudal Era Japan or Modern day Japan is AU/AR. Anything that changes the main characters beyond the basic core attributes Takahashi granted them. Anything that includes a separate world and series of events. If there are any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the mod-team.
As a reminder, any work of fiction may include OC’s, but it must reflect 80% of the storyline revolving around the Inuyasha characters.
One major change is that we are now going to evolve the Winners into First, Second, and Third place Awards. This has happened in past IY awards and some fans were hoping that we would be able to bring this back. However, this change is going to be based solely on the level of participation by you guys!
For any category to receive up to three nominations, a First Place banner will be awarded to the winner.
For any category to receive up to five nominations, First and Second Place banners will be awarded to the winners.
For any category to receive up to seven nominations, First, Second, and Third Place banners will be awarded to the winners.
Basically, the more nominations we receive, the more likely the chance for several people to receive banners! If you have any questions regarding this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the mod-team.
If it was not mentioned above, chances are it hasn’t changed. Please be aware that the moderators always take suggestions regarding how the awards are run and category changes into consideration, and each quarter may bring about new changes. You can read up on the most recent FAQs, Rules of Eligibility, and Categories for more information (these links are only available on desktop)
Also for this quarter, check out @inuparentsday, taking place on January 16th!
As nominators, please make sure that each quarter you take a peek at our list of creators who can’t be nominated to make sure you are staying current with who is eligible to be nominated.
The 1st Quarter 2021 nomination period will being January 1st and go until the end of the day January 15th. Please send your nominations through the submit button! If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to send in an ask or reach out to one of the mods!
Mods: @sassybratt9791 @meggz0rz @umacaking @hinezumi @sssuperbartola @ruddcatha
Please reblog to spread the word of the start of the new quarter!
[Below the cut we’ve posted the mobile-friendly FAQs, Rules of Eligibility, and Categories]
FAQ’s
What is The Feudal Connection?
The Feudal Connection is a place where amazing fanart and fanfiction in the Inuyasha fandom is recognized, admired, and offered the chance to be nominated for an award! In addition, it also gives lesser known authors and artists an opportunity to have their work shared to a broader extent and receive the admiration and recognition they deserve!
How do I nominate?
You can send us a submission in one of our nomination formats. Your submission will not be posted and therefore remain anonymous, only to be seen by the moderators. You can send multiple nominations in one submission, as long as the nomination formats are used for each nomination. Please select your fiction nominations carefully; spelling and grammar are important parts of being an author. Anything deemed unacceptable by the moderator team will be disqualified. Once nominations are complete, we’ll post the list of accepted nominations so you can read and view them before voting.
Can I nominate my own art/fiction?
You cannot nominate yourself. Doing so will result in the nomination not being accepted and a warning from the award moderators.
How long do I have to nominate?
You will have 2 weeks from the start of the nominating quarter to send in nominations. These dates will be posted at the beginning of each quarter.
Can I nominate anonymously?
No. This is due to the fact that no one is allowed to nominate their own work. Also, if a nomination is disqualified, the moderators will be reaching out to the person who nominated to allow them another opportunity to nominate.
Can I promote my own works of fiction/art to be nominated for a quarter?
No. You are not allowed to self-promote your own work during the nomination. This includes not being allowed to request others to nominate your work in specific categories. However, you are allowed to promote the nomination period of the awards by stating something similar to “go nominate your favorites” or the like, as long as you don’t promote your own work to being nominated. Violation of this rule will result in a warning. If there is a second offense, your work will be banned from being nominated in any future quarters.
How many fanfics/fanarts can I nominate?
Only one fiction or artwork can be chosen for each category per person. Meaning, a story or artwork can only be nominated by one person per category. Therefore, any secondary nominations will be disregarded and the duplicate nominator will be allowed to submit another story or artwork in its place.
Is there a limit to how many works can be nominated per category?
Yes. Only 7 fictions or artworks can be nominated per category. Once that category has reached its nomination limit, no more nominations will be accepted into that category for the current quarter.
What fanfiction/fanart is eligible to be nominated?
Please see Rules of Eligibility.
What is the nominating format for fanfics? For fanart?
Nominating format for fanfiction:
Category: (List the name of the category you’ve chosen) Nominated by: (List YOUR screen name) Rating: (The fiction’s rating) Title: (Title of the fiction) Author: (List the name of the person who wrote the story) Website(s): (Add the link where the story can be seen)
(For Best “In-Character” list the character’s name): (For Best “Friendship” list the characters’ names):
Nominating format for fanart:
Category: (List the name of the category you’ve chosen) Nominated by: (List YOUR screen name) Title: (Title of the artwork) Artist: (List the name of the person that drew the piece) Website(s): (Add the link where the art can be seen)
Can I nominate a fanfic/fanart for more than one category?
Yes. The same story or artwork may be nominated by the same person in up to two different categories.
What are the categories?
The categories for both fanart and fanfiction can be found in the Categories link.
Can I nominate a fanart/fanfic that includes Original Characters or Crossover Characters?
Yes. For Fanfics, 80% of the story needs to be focused on Inuyasha characters and the development of the story. OC’s can be in a story, but the main focus needs to be on the Inuyasha characters. Artwork can contain Non-IY characters where specified, but NO art may contain only OC’s or Non-IY characters. (i.e. Artwork of Inuyasha and Kagome’s “OC children” are unacceptable without other genuine IY characters present in the piece)
I don’t want my fanart/fanfic nominated. Can I opt out? How?
Once a nomination has been approved by the moderators, the author/artist will be made aware of the nomination. Every author/artist retains the right to have their work be removed from the nomination list and can opt out of future nominations. Simply reach out to one of the moderators to let us know.
How many quarters are there?
There will be 4 quarters total per year. Each quarter will be broken down by dates prior to the quarter starting.
How long is each quarter?
Each quarter will be approximately 8 weeks.
How long is the voting period?
The voting period will last for 2 weeks.
How do I vote?
Once the voting period begins, the moderators will post a link to the voting form that will list all of the nominations and which categories they have been nominated for. You can click on the link to be taken to the voting poll, however, you must sign in as you will be allowed only one vote per category.
When are the winners announced?
At the end of each quarter.
What happens if my fanfic/fanart wins? Do I need to do anything?
You don’t need to do anything; you can kick back, relax, and enjoy the feeling of being recognized for your hard work! We will be contacting you in regards to your award within the next twenty-four hours.
I want to nominate an artist/author who has won in the past. Are they still eligible to be nominated?
There is a Winner Ban in place. Once any piece of artwork or fanfiction has won an award for a category, it automatically becomes ineligible and cannot be nominated again for that category. However, it can be nominated for other categories after three consecutive quarters have passed (ie: one year since that piece won) as long as it fits within that definition. We currently do not have a rule against nominating an author/artist back into the category they won for in the past, as long as it is a different piece of work that is being nominated.
I have a question that’s not listed.
Please feel free to send an ask or a direct message to one of our mods and we will get back to you as soon as possible! :)
Rules of Eligibility
Fiction and Fanart published on any public or free site can be submitted for an award provided they meet all of the requirement of the nominations. These sites include but are not limited to Tumblr, Fanfiction.net, AO3, Deviantart, ect. If the validity of a site is uncertain, reach out to a moderator.
Multi-chapter fics must have been updated within the past 3 years of the nomination quarter. Fanart must have been created within the past 3 years of the nomination quarter.
One-shots and drabbles must have been posted within the past 3 years of the nomination quarter.
If the work was posted onto several different locations, the earliest date and time stamp will be taken and checked against the quarter’s period of eligibility. Stamps posted within reviews can be used to date a work and/or its chapters. Also, authors and artists can be contacted to verify timeframes.
You cannot nominate yourself. Doing so will result in the nomination not being accepted and a warning from the award moderators.
You are only allowed to nominate one fic/fanart per category.
Each piece of Art or Fanfiction is allowed to be nominated into a maximum of two different categories per quarter. The nominations will be taken on a first come first serve basis, meaning that once a piece of Art or Fanfiction is nominated into two categories, it will not be allowed to be nominated into other categories, and each subsequent nomination will be rejected.
Each author/artist is allowed to be nominated twice per quarter. Meaning, an author/artist can only have a max of two of their creations be nominated per quarter. So be sure and pick your favorites carefully!
The work must be in compliance with the definition of the category into which it was nominated.
Both adult and non-adult artwork are acceptable for nominations.
Categories
*Please keep in mind that these are subject to change pending participation and suggestions.
There are 32 categories in all - 16 for Fanfiction and 16 for Fanart. Please adhere to each categories’ definition when nominating. If a nomination does not fit within the definition, it will be disqualified.

Best Group Depiction Artwork
This artwork must feature 3 or more of the Inuyasha cast to be eligible.
Best Overall Artwork
The quality, time, thought, and emotion that went into this piece is what would make it worthy of this nomination. Please take note: The general idea is not the “best of what’s nominated” or “best of show.” It is a category created specifically for art appreciation. That means that even if the characters are OOC, AU, or not drawn in anime style, etc., the ART itself is worthy of praise.

It’s officially done.
After over a decade, this story has finally reached its completion. It amazes me that not only was I able to finish it, but it has traveled across such a huge portion of my life. I started this fic as a novice writer, a sheltered high school kid, and a girl looking for an outlet from reality. It has survived my high school years, a divorce, a break up, dropping out of college and starting again, a four-year hiatus, friendships that have ended and friendships that began, a new job, a new house, and traveling the world. It feels amazing to know I was able to bring this story to its destined ending after such a long time.
Special thanks to @iliveondaydreams for beta-ing; helping me to achieve my dream of reviving this fic, rewriting its entirety, and helping it reach its conclusion. My gratitude is far greater than words can express. And a lovely shout-out to @hinezumi for being so kind as to give it the little extra push it needed to reach its end. You are such a rockstar.
And of course, as always, an endearing thank you to all my readers & followers who have stuck with this story for more than a decade, picked it up along the way, or just fell in love with it a short time ago. All the reviews, favorites, and alerts have helped inspire me to keep this story alive and to finish it in its entirety. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
As this adventure ends, I do hope to see you all in my other stories & future works. Till next time!

INUKAG BABIES HEADCANONS
I’m jumping on the bandwagon. After seeing so many beautiful headcanons from @keichanz and @xfangheartx, I decided I share some of my own that have been manifesting in my mind as of late.
InuKag end up having three babies, 1 boy and 2 girls
I actually really enjoy @lenbarboza‘s InuKag baby Hoshiki and consider him a part of my canon (that does not mean I’m trying to claim ownership of the idea in the slightest. Hoshiki is Len’s character I just enjoy envisioning him in my canon)
Hoshi would be the oldest and is quickly followed by his two sisters
I don’t have a name for the older sister, but when I imagine her I envision her having stark, white hair and dog ears just like her dad
The youngest baby would be their only human child and would be named Izayoi
Izayoi bears the strongest resemblance to Kagome. Coupled with that and the fact that she’s mortal Inuyasha finds it fit to name her Izayoi even though when he’d been asked in the past he’d said he wouldn’t want to name a child after his mother
I envision Hoshi trying to be as strong as his dad. He wants to do everything his dad can do and then some so that he can protect his mom and his baby sisters
Our middle kid here is the most adventurous of the trio. She’s always the one who tries new things, isn’t afraid of failure, and never gives up. A literal ball of positivity and force of nature here, folks
Izayoi is definitely the shyest of the bunch
Is an absolute daddy’s girl
She wants to go on a path similar to her mother’s just without the slaying demons aspect
When she thinks about hurting demons, she thinks that she’s hurting her daddy, brother and sister
She just doesn’t have the heart to hurt others, and sometimes that gets her in situations where she’s taken advantage of by the other village kids
Her big bro, big sis, and dad though are always there to kick ass and need be while Kagome tends to any injuries from the aftermath
I could go on. And on. And on. But this is what I’ve got for now, enjoy!

Inuyasha Secret Santa Gift: Strung along, an InuKag fic
It’s finally done! As always, thank you @keichanz for proofreading my work! I always feel so honored when sensei notices me c,: Also special thanks to @inusecretsanta for putting together this wonderful event! It’s my first time participating and it was so much fun!
To @explodo-kills whom tumblr isn’t letting me tag. I hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!
Tagging my discord ladies: @morikothehalfangel @lenbarboza @cammysansstuff @britonell @superbartola @blackpearltotheright @eternalnight8806-3 @noviceotakus-blog @umacaking @theangryuniverse @amostsovereignlady
If you’d like to be tagged in the future please don’t hesitate to let me know!
Also shamelessly tagging @artistefish and @akitokihojo because I love their work and I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY THINK (if that’s okay. I’m sorry I just love you both).
Inuyasha’s amber eyes held a level of fondness as he looked at his wife’s sleeping form beside him. Black tresses framed Kagome’s face and cascaded in waves around her head and shoulders while her frame rose and fell in time with each deep and steady breath she took. Occasionally, the softest of sighs would escape from her slightly parted lips. She looked so at ease, so peaceful. Seeing her like this was Inuyasha’s favorite way to start the day.
Propping himself up on an elbow, Inuyasha turned his gaze from his sleeping wife to the home they’d made for themselves. Sunlight shone from behind the reed doormat and through the wooden-barred windows, giving the mahogany wood of the hut a soft, almost golden glow. In the small entrance area was a small kiln, an assortment of pots which held a variety of things, a place for people’s footwear, farm tools, and Kagome’s bow and arrows. The remainder of the hut, which was on a slightly elevated wooden floor to separate the entrance area and the living area, contained the hearth at its center, a bucket of water with a ladle to go with it, a chest for their clothes, and the futon that he and Kagome shared. It was quaint. It was normal. It was theirs.
Inuyasha sighed contentedly. He never thought he’d be able to enjoy these simple pleasures. After being marginalized for something he couldn’t control, judged by his appearance alone, and hated by humans and demons alike, Inuyasha was surprised he’d lasted this long. There was even a time where he thought he didn’t deserve any sort of happiness because of his being hanyou. But then he’d met Kikyo, who’d acknowledged his existence, given him company, and made him feel less alone, and then Kagome, who’d taught him to laugh, smile, trust, and more.
Inuyasha wasn’t sure if Kagome knew just how much she’s done for him, how much she still does for him. She gave up her life in the future, with all of its amenities and conveniences as well as her family, to be with him. With him! The reckless, rough around the edges, hard-headed hanyou who’d done more to deserve her fury than her compassion. The hanyou who’d made her cry more times than he could count. The hanyou who’d made her angry more than he would’ve liked. The hanyou who-
“Inuyasha?”
The hanyou who would make sure this woman, who had such a hold on his heart it was insane, would know just how much she meant to him. The hanyou who would do anything if it meant getting to see her smile or hearing her laugh. The hanyou who would protect her with his li-
“Hello? Earth to Inuyasha! Are you even listening to- AHHHH!” Kagome’s question was cut short as she burst into a myriad of laughter and giggles. Inuyasha had cut her off by blowing raspberries into the crook of her neck and gently tickling her sides, causing her to wiggle beside him. Kagome squirmed and gasped for breath as she tried to escape his grasp but to no avail. The only thing she’d managed to do was to accidentally kick the kakebuton off and make her legs cold.
“I-Inuya-HAHA! Sssssstop!” Kagome pleaded with tears in her eyes. Her stomach ached from how long she’d been wriggling and laughing. Inuyasha settled for the opposite and tickled her for a few more moments before finally stopping. Taking huge lungfuls of air, Kagome breathed in and out to let the burning feeling in her chest subside. Meanwhile, Inuyasha just smirked and took in the sight of the woman beside him.
“What did you do all that for?” Kagome whined once she’d gotten her breathing under control.
“To wake you up, of course. If I didn’t, you’d sleep the day away and leave me to do all the chores.”
“That’s not true and you know it! Besides, there’s no need for me to be up this early.”
“Ah, but that’s where you’re wrong, Kagome.”
“What do you mean? You know I don’t have to get up this early, so why-”
“Just shut up and pack your things. We’re going on a trip,” Inuyasha interrupted. Cheeks burning slightly, he got up with a start and started gathering the things he thought they’d need for their trip, while Kagome just stared with her eyes wide and mouth agape. Since when had there been mention of a trip?
Inuyasha was starting to wonder just how well thought out his plan really was. Actually, calling what he had a “plan” was a bit generous; he’d need an actual idea of what he wanted to do or where he wanted to go to call it a plan. He definitely remembered Kagome mention wanting to explore the “natural wonders” (as she called it) of Japan multiple times… but that was all he had to go on. He couldn’t really call this trip a surprise if he asked Kagome where exactly she wanted to go or what exactly she wanted to do.
So now here they were, waiting out a storm in a dark, damp cave instead of in the comfort of their home. They were at mercy to the elements instead of exploring and admiring any scenery. Angrily muttering to himself, Inuyasha stoked the measly fire he’d managed to start while Kagome sat towards the entrance of their temporary lodging. The steady thrum of rain hitting smooth rock and gentle rumbles of thunder caused a wash of calm to fall over her. Every breath she took was met with the smell of earthy tones and clean air. Even though the sky was gray and cloudy, Kagome didn’t feel glum or depressed. Instead, the elements of the storm were putting her mind at ease. It was the perfect fix for keeping her temper in check given the previous argument.
When it had first begun to rain, Inuyasha and Kagome hadn’t made it far past the village. Being the sensible person she was, she’d suggested they turn back and try to travel again later when the weather was better, rather than trekking through a potential storm. Inuyasha had scoffed at her and argued that the rain was really only a drizzle, meaning there was no reason to stop and turn back. While she’d wanted to instantly disagree, Kagome was also curious to see what exactly Inuyasha was up to. She’d never seen him so insistent to do something… at least, not since hunting down Naraku. But then the storm had grown steadily worse; the rain had started to fall harder, the sky slowly grew darker, and the wind’s blow had gradually grown stronger the longer they traveled. At that point, they had no choice but to stop and find shelter. Once they found the cave, Kagome had snarkily remarked something to the effect of “I told you so” without thinking. Inuyasha had instantly snapped, bickering ensued, and now they were at two opposite ends of the cave.
Kagome drew her legs closer to her form and rested her chin atop her knees. Maybe she felt more glum than she thought. With just how insistent Inuyasha had been earlier that morning she’d anticipated that whatever they were going to do was going to be fun.
‘And of course instead of having fun or enjoying time together I had to go and make that stupid comment,’ Kagome cursed internally with her lip jutting out for good measure.
“Scoot over, wench.”
That was all the warning Kagome got before her grumpy half demon plopped right beside her. His arms were crossed and his gaze firm, yet he never looked Kagome’s way. Watching him a moment longer, Kagome waited for him to do something, anything, before finally giving up with a sigh and returning her gaze to the ground beneath her feet.
‘Is he still mad at me? Or does he think I’m mad at him? Man, I really messed things up this time, huh?’
She was so engrossed in her brooding that she didn’t notice Inuyasha removing his suikan until the robe of the firerat came to rest gently against the crown of her head. Blinking in surprise, Kagome grabbed a fistful of the familiar fabric and turned to look back at her hanyou. Inuyasha’s gaze was still set straight ahead, but the color that had risen to his cheeks was not missed by Kagome. Tugging the suikan closer to her huddled form, she reveled in the warmth and comfort it provided.
“Thank you,” Kagome said softly, pointing a smile Inuyasha’s way.
“Don’t worry ‘bout it. It’s the least I could do after all…” Inuyasha gulped, and after a few moments of tense silence finally willed himself to make eye contact with Kagome. Her soft brown eyes and smile gave him resolve to continue. “I’m sorry, Kagome. It’s my fault we’re stuck in a cold, wet cave instead of resting comfortably at home.” When Inuyasha’s ears pinned against his head Kagome felt her heart drop. Before she could blubber a slew of apologies though, Inuyasha grabbed her hand in his clawed one.
“I promise you though, this trip will be worth it. Just trust me.”
Flashbacks of a similar moment rushed through Kagome’s mind, causing the corners of her lips to turn up in a smile. Kagome leaned over to rest her suikan-covered head against Inuyasha’s shoulder. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and nodded while laying against him.
“I trust you, Inuyasha. I always have.”
Kagome grinned from ear to ear while riding on Inuyasha’s back, loving the feeling of the wind in her hair and from being so close to Inuyasha. While being carried on Inuyasha’s back was no new phenomenon, Kagome couldn’t deny that every time she rode with him felt like her first. There was just nothing quite like it; no other way of traveling made Kagome feel like she was simultaneously flying through the air and racing atop the earth like riding with Inuyasha did. Leaning forward, she brought her chin to rest on top of Inuyasha’s shoulder with a happy hum and moved her arms so that they were draped over his shoulders.
“What’s wrong, Kagome? Am I going too fast?” Inuyasha asked over the wind that rushed past both of their ears, half-joking and half-serious.
“Are you kidding? This is amazing; I love it!” Kagome exclaimed in reply. Inuyasha smirked as an evil idea came to mind. In that case…
Inuyasha picked up his speed before settling into a crouch and leaping into the air. Kagome tightened her grip and squealed with delight at the sudden ascent. Both Inuyasha and Kagome’s long hair whipped behind them as Inuyasha seemingly flew through the sky. Tightening his hold on Kagome’s thighs, Inuyasha jumped even higher the second his feet returned to the ground. The duo continued on like that until Inuyasha’s sensitive ears picked up on what sounded like a waterfall. His ears twitched as he focused and grew closer. Sure enough, after a few more leaps through the air he spotted just that: just beyond the forest’s foliage was water cascading off the edge of a tall mountain and pooling at its rocky bottom, forming a little lake.
“Hold on tight, Kagome. I think I found our first stop.”
That was the only warning Kagome received before Inuyasha managed to go even faster. Clinging for dear life, Kagome shut her eyes as the wind began to bite against her skin. While the speed they were travelling at was a bit frightening, Kagome knew she didn’t have anything to be afraid of. She knew Inuyasha would never put her in harm's way. After a few moments, Kagome felt Inuyasha land with a soft thud against the forest floor. The sound of rushing water was the first thing to reach Kagome’s ears. Getting excited now that she had a clue as to where their first stop actually was, Kagome finally opened her eyes and wasn’t disappointed at the sight that awaited her.
Pouring off the edge of the tall, foliage-covered mountainside was some of the clearest water Kagome had ever seen. The mountain-side had jagged edges and was comprised of gray, polished stone. The water that pooled at the bottom looked clear enough to drink and showed her reflection almost as well as a mirror.
“So, what’ya think?”
Kagome stepped forward to crouch before the fresh-water lake. Cupping the crisp liquid in her hand, she did her best to keep the water from slipping between her fingers as she brought it to her lips to drink. Sure enough, the water was as refreshing as it looked.
“I think it’s perfect!” Kagome replied quickly. “And I don’t know about you, but I think this lake is screaming to be swam in.” With that remark made, Kagome quickly went about removing her red hakama, white haori, and thin kosode, leaving her in a simple white linen fundoshi and basic white cloth tied against her chest to add support to her bust. Inuyasha watched avidly, golden eyes hungrily scanning every curve of his wife’s body, before following suit and removing his own clothes. He then placed his shed clothes atop his wife’s, creating a pile of red and white, before sending a smirk his wife’s way. It seemed he wasn’t the only one who was appreciating the view.
“Do ya need to cool off, Kagome?” Inuyasha asked, crossing his arms smugly and raising an eyebrow. “You look a little warm.”
“Oh shut it, Dog Boy. You were ogling me just as much if not more.”
“You’re gonna regret that, wench,” Inuyasha said before bounding forward with arms outstretched. Kagome erupted into a combination of shrieks and giggles as she ran away from him. Inuyasha growled playfully as he chased after Kagome. He waited until she was at the water’s edge before taking advantage of his heightened abilities and jumping in front of her. Kagome screeched as she tried to turn away, but by then it was too late. Strong arms wrapped around her torso and began to drag her towards the lake. Kagome wiggled and kicked, still giggling profusely, in an attempt to “escape” Inuyasha’s grasp, but all that did was make Inuyasha tighten his hold on her.
“Come on, Kagome. Weren’t you just saying that this lake was screaming to be swam in?” Inuyasha teased as he handled her with ease.  Before Kagome got a chance to reply she was tossed into the crisp lake water. A moment later a shivering Kagome rose back above the lake’s surface. Her sopping wet hair dripped behind her while the stark temperature difference between being in or out of the water made goosebumps begin to rise on her exposed flesh. Kagome sent a pointed glare Inuyasha’s way but couldn’t keep it for long. The bright expression he wore was too precious, too pure to ruin. With a defeated sigh, Kagome quickly dipped back in the water to acclimate to its temperature before poking her head above the surface. Once again, she was met with Inuyasha’s smile, a rare joy that only she got to see. A shame she was going to wipe that smile off his face.
Kagome rushed forward without warning, hand cutting through the water and creating a mini wave, and splashed her “unsuspecting” hanyou. Whether he’d anticipated her “attack” or not didn’t matter, because now he was soaked just like she was. The happy couple then continued playing together until the sun began to set.
Much to Inuyasha’s disbelief, the trip continued without a hitch. After visiting the waterfall they went to explore the mountains, hot springs, and even the ocean. Once they’d gotten their fill of each location, the duo would set up camp, make a small meal with whatever they could find, and curl up in the nearest tree branch. While nothing would beat the comfort of the futon they shared at home, Kagome couldn’t deny that resting against Inuyasha was a different pleasure all in its own. She always felt safe, secure, and…
“Kagome? Oi, don’t fall asleep on me. The stars haven’t even shown up yet!” Inuyasha gently poked a clawed finger at Kagome’s side and tickled her. Kagome instantly sat up from where she rested in Inuyasha’s lap while blinking away the sleepy haze that filled her eyes.
“Can’t you think of other ways to wake me up besides tickling me?” Kagome asked before leaning back against Inuyasha’s chest. Her forehead found the crook of his neck and she sighed happily at the contact.
“I mean, I could. But I don’t think any other way of waking you up would be as entertaining.”
“Maybe I should tickle you, Dog Boy. See how you like it.”
“I’d like to see you try it,” Inuyasha quipped before settling to rest his head against the top of Kagome’s head. The pair had reached the last stop of their trip: a flower field filled with vibrant baby blue eye flowers. While it wasn’t as exciting as their previous excursions, Kagome had insisted on it being their last spot. With no tall trees immediately around them, it left a beautiful, nonobstructed view of the sky that was perfect to watch the sunset and stargaze.
The sun’s warm orange and yellow hues spilled across the field of flowers while it slowly descended below the horizon. Slowly taking its place was a dark blackish-bluish sky with an abundance of stars mottling the surface.
“Oh wow,” Kagome breathed, taking the sight in. Whenever she’d slept outside while searching for the shards of the Sacred Jewel, there’d always been trees blocking her view of the sky and a campfire with embers rising to join the stars. On top of that, the view she’d had of the sky in her era wasn’t nearly as clear as it was tonight. The sky from her era was too muddled as a result of the bright lights that kept Tokyo awake through the night.
Inuyasha watched Kagome with fond amusement. He wasn’t much for just sitting and lazing around, but when Kagome had practically begged to stargaze together he couldn’t have just said no. Where she thought the stars were going was beyond him, but if she wanted help keeping watch of them so badly he supposed he could do it just for her.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Inuyasha spotted a tiny bright streak quickly appear and disappear against the sky. The sight gave cause for Inuyasha to blink in confusion. Maybe the stars were going somewhere.
“Kagome, do stars sometimes fall out of the sky?” Inuyasha asked, his curiosity piqued.
“Yes, actually! We call them shooting stars back in my era, and it’s said that whatever wish you make upon seeing one will make your wish come true.”
“Well, I think I just saw one,” Inuyasha said simply, not thinking much of it.
“What?! Oh, I’m so jealous! Well, Inuyasha quick! Make a wish!” Kagome exclaimed, turning to face him from where she remained perched in his lap.
“Don’t need to.” Kagome blinked in surprise. That wasn’t the answer she’d been expecting.
“Why not? It doesn’t hurt to ask for something more.”
“What more do I need though? I’ve got everything I need right here.”
Kagome’s cheeks instantly grew three shades darker. She’d never get used to how blunt Inuyasha could be. While it wasn’t clear if he’d intentionally been trying to be romantic or not, Kagome grew speechless nonetheless.
Inuyasha rose an eyebrow at the woman in his lap. Had he said something he shouldn’t have? Had she been expecting him to make a wish? While Inuyasha’s mind reeled, he didn’t notice Kagome shift her position until her soft lips came to rest against his own. Quickly coming back to Earth, Inuyasha cupped the back of Kagome’s head to press her gently against his lips and deepen the kiss. After a few blissful seconds, Kagome broke the kiss and turned around completely to hug her half-demon husband tightly.
“Thank you,” Kagome whispered, knowing Inuyasha’s ears would pick up what she said no problem. Inuyasha released himself gently from Kagome’s grip to rest his forehead against hers.
“No, Kagome. Thank you.”

Inuvember Day 3: Main Gang
A/N: GUYS!!! IT’S FINALLY DONE! AND IT HASN’T EVEN BEEN A WEEK BETWEEN UPDATES *dances*
An extremely heartfelt and special thanks to both @keichanz and @morikothehalfangel for not only proofreading my fic but offering suggestions to improve it for the future! It means the world to me, so once again thank you.
From this point forward Inuvember-wise, I’ll see if I can post actual little drabbles instead of full length stories (and see if I can even catch up?)
I just wanted to make sure I finished this before college got to hectic (and I think I made it in the nick of time). Please enjoy and leave reviews! I can’t improve without feedback!
Discord peeps: @britonell @blackpearltotheright @cammysansstuff @becca-the-baka @noviceotakus-blog @amostsovereignlady @sesshomabitch @bearpluscat @eternalnight8806-3
Senpais who I want to notice me: @artistefish @mustardyellowsunshine @akitokihojo
“If you need anything else to make your stay more comfortable, please don’t hesitate to seek us out.”
Responding “thanks” in tandem, the group waited for the old woman to slide the shoji door closed behind her before making any moves to settle into the room they’d been provided. Setting her large, yellow backpack down in a corner of the room, Kagome began to unpack her belongings. As she made to unroll her sleeping bag, Kagome caught a familiar shade of red out of the corner of her eye. Raising an eyebrow in question, Kagome stole a quick glance and was surprised to be met with golden eyes washed in concern.
“Inuyasha? What’s wrong?” the school girl asked as she smoothed out the exterior nylon shell of her sleeping bag. The feeling of the smooth and sheer fabric under her palm was soothing, and as she continued to rub the material under her skin she almost became totally engrossed in the hypnotic action until the feeling of a familiar clawed hand grabbing hers broke her from her reverie.
“Stupid woman,” Inuyasha muttered before speaking up. “You get insulted by a man on the street today and yet you ask me if something’s wrong. Don’t you ever worry about yourself?”
“I can’t tell if you’re trying to comfort me or scold me,” Kagome muttered bitterly to herself before lowering her gaze to look at their intertwined hands. Gently rubbing tiny circles into the back of his hand with her thumb, Kagome sighed before returning her chocolate hues to settle on beautiful gold. She’d never get over his uncanny ability to tell when something was wrong.
“I’m okay Inuyasha, really,” Kagome replied before flashing him a smile. Inuyasha saw right through her facade though and let her know as much. Eyebrows furrowed, Inuyasha continued to stare at Kagome, a frown tugging at the corners of his mouth. What was he to do in this situation? What could he do?
‘If Miroku hadn’t let that fucker get away I would’ve, I could’ve-’
“Inuyasha?”
His trail of thought broken, Inuyasha looked up and saw Kagome’s face scrunched in pain. Eyebrows furrowing in concern, he was about to ask what hurt until he felt Kagome jerk her hand out of his grip. Looking down at the hand that had just been holding Kagome’s, he stared at his appendage in confusion until the sight of mottled pink against creamy skin caught his eye.
Inuyasha felt his heart drop as he watched Kagome rub her now bruised hand. Had he done that? He then surmised that he must have; after all, he’d just been holding her hand. Acting before thinking, Inuyasha quickly snatched Kagome’s now bruised hand again before gently resting it against his forehead. Gaze pointed downward, Inuyasha sighed and held her hand there for a moment. Drinking in her touch as well as her pleasant-smelling scent, Inuyasha closed his eyes as he felt his anger simmer down. All the while Kagome just felt her cheeks darkening in hue as she watched.
While she appreciated the gesture, it wasn’t like they were alone in the room they were situated in. Moving her gaze from her half demon to the center of the room, she gulped when she saw four sets of eyes pointed her way. Breath caught in her throat, Kagome had decided she’d had enough of being stared at. Standing up abruptly, she gingerly removed her hand from Inuyasha’s grasp once more before opening the shoji door, exiting, and closing it behind her.
‘I just need a breather. Maybe a breath of fresh air will-’
For the second time that day, being lost in her thoughts had betrayed her. Kagome held off a howl of pain as the hot tea that was now all over her began to seep into her skin and clothes. The burning sensation was fast spreading and Kagome instinctively grabbed at her abdomen where the burning felt the worst. Eyes squeezed closed in pain, Kagome could hear the shoji door she’d just walked through slide back open as well as the sounds of familiar growls and nervous, padded steps.
“I-I’m so sorry sir, she came out so suddenly, and had I seen her soon enough I-”
“Save it. You should be apologizing to her, not me,” Inuyasha said coolly, cutting the server off before scooping Kagome into his arms. Shippo immediately joined him, jumping onto Inuyasha’s shoulder before sliding down the hanyou’s chest to land on Kagome’s abdomen. Before he could ask her what happened, however, Kagome winced in pain at the sudden contact. Growling intensifying, Inuyasha brought Kagome closer to him while sending the fox kit a pointed glare.
“Shippo, go make yourself useful and find some towels and a change of clothes,” Inuyasha commanded, the bite in his voice not lost on the younger demon. Shippo simply did as he was told and scurried off. Any thought of yelling at Inuyasha for the way he’d just talked to him was consumed by the guilt he felt for hurting Kagome, whether intentional or not. As soon as the kitsune was out of sight, Inuyasha looked at the trembling server before him.
“Where can I find the nearest bath house?” the half demon asked, his gaze on the server remaining cool.
“A-Actually, w-we have baths you can use he-”
“Then stop telling me about them and tell me where to find them.”
After translating the server’s trembly-spoken directions, Inuyasha gave a curt nod to show his understanding and turned on his heel to follow the directions he’d been given.
Kagome worried her lip between her teeth in an effort to keep her pained whimpers to a minimum. She was ready for the day to be over. After the meltdown she’d had last night and the multiple events that happened just earlier today, she wondered how much longer she’d last before she snapped. Before her thoughts could wrong her for a third time that day, she was delightfully distracted when Shippo reappeared at Inuyasha’s side. The young demon held in his small hands a simple blue kimono, a hair brush, and two towels. Feeling Kagome’s eyes on him, Shippo turned so that his eyes met hers and erupted into a grin; he was just so relieved that she didn’t look angry at him.
Shippo followed Inuyasha into the bath house portion of the inn while making sure to keep his distance; he didn’t want to risk testing Inuyasha’s patience a second time. Stopping a foot or so behind Inuyasha once he’d stopped moving, Shippo watched as Inuyasha carefully set Kagome down onto a wooden bench right outside where the baths split for males and females. When green eyes met brown once again, Shippo was met by another of Kagome’s smiles. How was it that she was still able to smile while being in so much pain?
Kagome’s visage was cut off from Shippo’s gaze when the girl’s hanyou-protector kneeled in front of her. When Inuyasha glanced upon Kagome’s continued smile, a corner of his lip turned upwards ever so slightly, leaving traces of the faintest of smiles. Leave it to Kagome to crumble his resolve and make his heart do somersaults (not that he’d ever let her know that).
“Clumsy woman. Lift your shirt so I can check your burn,” Inuyasha told Kagome. The schoolgirl’s face immediately erupted into brilliant shades of red. Worrying her lip between her teeth, Kagome just stared at Inuyasha; he had to have realized the implications of what he just asked, right? As brown orbs stared into gold, the air around them slowly grew tense. The longer she stared, the more Kagome realized that no, her hanyou companion didn’t seem to understand. Lower lip jutting into a pout, conflicted over whether she should feel relieved or frustrated by Inuyasha’s lack of interest, Kagome squeezed her eyes shut while she untucked her stained white blouse from her skirt and slowly lifted.
Kagome’s stomach was a mottled shade of pink. Inuyasha’s ear flattened and he growled at the sight; the burn on her stomach was of a similar shade to the bruise she now bore on her hand. A bruise he had inflicted her with. Shaking his head to keep his thoughts from spiraling, Inuyasha gently pulled Kagome’s shirt back down before standing up.
“I’m gonna go grab your backpack. Your first aid kit is in there, right?” Kagome nodded in response. “Alright, stay here and try not to trip on anything else while I’m gone,” Inuyasha said before adding a cocky smirk. When he got the desired reaction of an eye roll and contained laugh, Inuyasha turned around and knelt to Shippo’s level.
“Watch her, runt. I’m counting on you.”
Puffing his chest out, Shippo put his hands on his hips and stood taller before giving Inuyasha a nod. Returning the gesture, Inuyasha then rose up and walked out of the room, leaving Shippo and Kagome to wait for him. Glancing at his friend beside him, Shippo stared at her clothes and felt a question that he’d always thought about rise to the front of his mind.
“Hey Kagome, can I ask you something?” Kagome nodded in response, her attention focused on keeping the pain from her burns to a minimum. “Why do you wear the clothes from your world while you’re over here?”
“Why does it matter?” she replied quickly. She didn’t want to have this conversation.
“W-Well, it’s just that… you’ve been so on edge lately,” Shippo admitted before gulping. “I noticed how the villagers were looking at you, and when that man snapped at you I couldn’t help but wonder ‘wait, why does she wear the clothes from her era if she doesn’t like being stared at?’”
Kagome’s fists clenched in an effort to maintain her patience. She didn’t want to be having this conversation, she didn’t want to keep talking about it. She was over it, so why couldn’t people just leave her alone and-
“Kagome?”
She snapped.
“BECAUSE I’M NOT FROM THIS ERA.” And with that, she rose from her spot on the bench and stomped off to the women’s section of the baths, pain be damned.
Inuyasha was surprised to say the least when he returned and saw Shippo crying on the bench he’d left Kagome on. Taking a quick sniff of the area, Inuyasha pushed his concern for Kagome to the side momentarily when he deduced that she was still there, just in the bath portion.
“...Everything okay?” Inuyasha asked awkwardly as he took a seat next to Shippo. The kitsune just continued to cry, hands over his eyes and tear streaks stained across his cheeks. Whether he’d noticed the hanyou’s presence or not wasn’t clear. Clearing his throat, Inuyasha tried to get the kit’s attention before asking again; he didn’t want to be consoling Shippo any longer than he had to. Thankfully, his second attempt seemed to do the trick. Sniffles wracking through his tiny body, Shippo rubbed his eyes before looking at Inuyasha.
“I.. I think I made Kagome upset. I asked her why she always wears the clothes from her era rather than clothes from ours, and then she yelled and stomped away and.. and..” Shippo trailed off as tiny sobs rose from his chest once again.
Inuyasha gulped. A crying and upset Kagome was one thing; while he hated seeing her so sad, he knew he could at least comfort her with gentle embraces and kind words. An angry Kagome was an entirely different story. He’d been “sat” more than enough times to know so. Body aching as if she’d said the word of subjugation already, Inuyasha felt another shudder go through his body before he decided he’d had enough. Standing up once more, Inuyasha shouldered Kagome’s backpack into a more comfortable position before grabbing the towel, hairbrush, and kimono Shippo had brought over earlier.
“Don’t hold it against her. She’s… been having a rough time,” said Inuyasha softly. Before Shippo could ask any questions, Inuyasha left to go look for the girl they both were concerned about. Kagome’s feelings weren’t his story to tell.
Kagome’s head broke the surface of the warm bath water with a gasp. The warm water was doing wonders to ease her burns, bruise, and mind. Sighing contentedly, Kagome lowered herself until only her eyes, nose, and ears rose above the bath water’s surface. The bath was infused with oils and soaps, giving the water a pleasant aroma and somewhat murky texture. It was the best bath Kagome had taken in a long, long time. Blowing bubbles absentmindedly, Kagome was about to submerge her head completely until the sight of familiar, white doggie ears stopped her. Coming into view completely, Inuyasha stared at Kagome blankly and watched as her cheeks grew red and her arms wrapped hastily around her chest. Before he could ask what was wrong, he heard her say his least favorite word in the world before his entire body crashed onto the ground just outside the tub.
Muttering curses to himself, Inuyasha was about to give Kagome a piece of his mind until her meek speaking voice stopped him in his tracks.
“Is Shippo okay?”
Inuyasha rose from where he’d been “sat” slowly to sit at the edge of the bath. Moving the items in his arms to the side, he turned around so that he wasn’t facing her. The hanyou’s ears twitched every which way to make sure no one else was nearby or worse, listening in; he didn’t need anyone coddling him about the mushy crap he was going to say later.
“He will be. I never thought I’d see the day where you’d make him cry though,” Inuyasha replied jokingly, hoping to lighten the mood. The smell of salty tears told him he’d done the exact opposite.
“I’m so stupid. He was just trying to make me feel better and I had to go and snap at him! He’s not even remotely at fault; if anyone is, it’s me. I’m the one who lets myself get so bothered by other people’s opinions.”
Breath hitching in her throat, Kagome struggled to keep her emotions in check as she continued, the words spilling out of their own volition.
“The one who chooses to dress in ‘strange clothes’. The one who always stands out like a sore thumb. The one who always gets kidnapped. The one who can’t defend herself. The one who forgets she’s actually from the future and not the Feudal era.”
Her voice started to break. Sniffling in an effort to keep the remainder of her tears from falling, Kagome took a shaky breath as her words began to spill out faster.
“The one who makes her family worry yet hardly ever goes home to put their minds at ease. The one who’s behind in school and complains about being so. The one whose family probably think she’s an ungrateful brat. The one who… the one who…” And then Kagome broke. Her head leaned back as all of the feelings she’d been keeping to herself exited her body as sobs. A new set of tears trailed down her now flushed cheeks, their flow hardly ceasing as she continued to sob. Inuyasha’s ears pinned down at the sounds. Hearing Kagome cry hurt worse than any physical wound he’d received. Inuyasha wasn’t used to this side of Kagome; he was used to the girl who smiled all the time, whose laughter sounded like bells, whose kindness melted his heart…
The feeling of two tiny and damp fists gripping the back of his suikan was the last straw. In one fluid movement, Inuyasha removed his suikan to wrap around the girl behind him before lifting her to sit behind him at the edge of the bath. Maintaining his gaze ahead, he reached to his side and grabbed the towel that sat at the top of the pile of stuff he’d brought in for her.
“Here stupid, dry your hair so that you don’t catch a cold,” Inuyasha said before shaking the towel in his hand to get Kagome’s attention. Her sobs had quieted down to whimpers, and once her attention was drawn to the noise of the shaking towel, she graciously took it before resting it on her head.
Whimpers calming to deep breaths, Kagome closed the scant distance between Inuyasha and herself by resting her back against his, his long silver tresses instantly becoming a pillow for her to rest her head on. She felt the muscles in his back tense for just a moment before feeling them relax just as fast. The pair stayed in companionable silence until Inuyasha finally stole a glance at the girl behind him. Curled up in a ball and encased by his robe of the firerat, Kagome had somehow slipped into slumber without him even noticing. While she seemed utterly exhausted, she also looked blissfully at peace. A smirk tugged the corners of his lips at the sight.
He’d do whatever he could to maintain that beautifully at peace smile on Kagome’s face for far longer than when she woke up. He’d do whatever was necessary to keep Kagome’s mind  at ease as much as possible. He would protect her, not only from the demons who came after her and the shards of the Shikon jewel but the ones who tried to convince her that she was anything but perfect.

Just do it: An Inukag Drabble
A/N: Hello friends! I hope you enjoy this drabble as much as I do. This story was actually inspired by @missmarquin‘s story of how her husband proposed to her. I hope you like it, dear!
Also, a huge thanks again to @keichanz for proofreading this for me. It means so much. And now to tag some of the ladies from the Discord server:
@morikothehalfangel @britonell @blackpearltotheright @cammysansstuff
Inuyasha woke up with a start. Sitting upright from the futon he’d been sleeping on, he frantically looked every which way in the dark hut. Something, or rather someone, was amiss.
‘She’s gone. Kagome’s gone. I lost her, I couldn’t protect her, I-’’
“Inuyasha?” a sleepy voice asked, releasing him from his panic. Head turning towards the source, Inuyasha felt his muscles relax and heart calm at the sight of her. There stood his miko, donned in a simple sleeping kosode and straw sandals. Holding the reed mat that acted as the door in front of her, moonlight spilled behind her and shone in a gentle off white-color on the floor of Kaede’s hut, giving her an almost ethereal glow.
“What are you doing up so late at night?” Inuyasha asked gruffly, propping himself up on his elbows. While his words held a slight edge to them, his tinted cheeks gave away the concern he was trying so desperately to hide. Whether the miko noticed in the dark of the night though was an entirely different story.
Rubbing tired hazel eyes, Kagome kicked off her sandals before making her way over to join Inuyasha on the futon they shared.
“Bathroom,” the young woman replied sleepily, not really awake. Crawling under the large kakebuton, Kagome laid down with a contented sigh and immediately closed her eyes. Inuyasha watched her, his gaze soft, and listened as her breathing evened out and reached a gentle lull. Once he was sure she was asleep, Inuyasha gently grabbed a lock of ebony-black hair and brought it to his lips. Breathing her scent in, he felt his resolve return. He could do this; tomorrow would be the day. Eyelids growing heavy, the hanyou laid back down and soon fell back asleep just as quickly as he’d woken up.
The next time Inuyasha woke it was to the sun’s early rays dancing across his face. Breathing deeply through the nose, Inuyasha let out a discontented growl at the lack of a certain woman next to him. Again. Her scent was there, lingering, indicating that she’d been there, but where she was currently was what eluded him. His ears twitched and turned in an effort to discern whether or not Kagome was even in the hut at all. Hearing nothing but the sound of leaves rustling, birds singing, and the village, Inuyasha sighed in defeat and pinned his ears to his head in disappointment.
‘Damn wench. Since when does she wake up before I do?’
Sleepily scratching the crown of his head, Inuyasha stretched before slowly rising from where he lay on the futon. Bare feet lightly tapping against the wooden floor of the hut, the hanyou made his way to the doorway and pushed the reed mat past him.
The village was quite lively despite it being just a little past dawn. Farmers were hunched over in the rice paddies either planting rice seedlings or picking rice plants, managing to talk, share jokes, and laugh as they did so. Women were either preparing the laundry or helping their husbands in the fields. Even the children were up; some helped their parents in the fields while others either stayed close to their family’s hut or played kemari in the tiny but quaint village square.
Squinting into the distance, Inuyasha examined the scene below him. This was his new normal; had been his new normal for the past 3 long years. Ever since Kagome had been permanently sent back to the present by the Sacred Jewel, Inuyasha had stayed in the village. No one ever asked why because they all knew: he was waiting, hoping, for the girl beyond the well to return. Didn’t his going to the well every three days prove that?
When she had returned though, he wanted nothing more than to share his new “normal” with her. He wanted to make it their new normal. But how could he ask the girl from the future, the girl whose world had so many amenities and benefits he couldn’t give her, to stay with him? How could he ask the woman to choose between her family who existed 500 years in the future and him? Just a lowly, pathetic, awful…
The hanyou clapped his hands against his cheeks, the sting from the self-afflicted strike stopping his thoughts from spiraling any further. There was no time for second guessing or self-deprecation. He’d told himself last night that today was the day, and he’d be damned if he waited any longer.
‘Damn it, where is that wench anyways?’
“Lady Kagome! Lady Kagome! Is this also a medicinal herb?” the young child next to her asked. Kagome looked at the small white flower that had been shoved into view and chuckled at the sight.
“Yes, Akiko, very good! Do you know what that flower’s name is?” Akiko brought the plant back to her gaze and stared at it thoughtfully. Kagome watched the young girl and couldn’t help but smile. She could almost imagine little gears turning in the young girl’s head and in all honesty, it was absolutely adorable. Just as she was about to offer a hint, however, Akiko suddenly started to cry. Kagome watched in horror as little tears streaked against Akiko’s cheeks and pooled at her chin.
“I-I-I’m sorry, Lady K-Kagome, I don’t know! I don’t remember!” Akiko sobbed before burying her face in her hands. Kagome could feel her heart breaking. How could she tell the young girl that it wasn’t a big deal without making it sound like she was completely dismissing the girl’s efforts? What words could she offer to console her? Just as Kagome was going to embrace and console the crying child beside her, she felt a tall shadow loom over her.
“Geez, Kagome. I never thought I’d see the day where you’d make a kid cry,” Inuyasha remarked, giving Kagome a smirk for extra measure.
“Inuyasha!” Kagome exclaimed, clearly embarrassed by the situation. She already felt horrible, she didn’t need someone reminding her. Especially not someone as snarky and pretentious as Inuyasha. Just as she was about to choose between ‘Osuwari-ing’ him and yelling at him, Akiko rose from her sobbing and ran over to Inuyasha. The young girl was soon plastered against one of Inuyasha’s legs, head buried in the red cloth of the fire rat that made up his hakama and haori. Inuyasha and Kagome just stared at each other in disbelief, mouths agape and eyes conveying confusion. What were they supposed to do now?
Looking at the crying girl below him, Inuyasha let out a sigh and crouched to her level, effectively dislodging the hold she had on him. Balled up fists went to Akiko’s eyes soon after, desperately trying to rub the tears that wouldn’t seem to stop falling away.
“Oi.” Inuyasha said simply before lightly tapping the girl’s nose, being careful with his claws as he did so. Akiko blinked in confusion at the amber orbs in front of her, her sobbing lessening as her attention was redirected. Kagome watched the scene unfold in front of her with avid interest. This was a side of Inuyasha Kagome had never seen.
“Did that mean priestess over there hurt you?” Inuyasha asked before giving a wink to Kagome. Torn between wanting to intervene so that her good name wasn’t tarnished any further and respecting Inuyasha’s silent plea to let him handle it, Kagome settled for resting her hands beneath her and fuming.
‘I’ll show him what “mean” means…’ Despite the teasing, though, Kagome couldn’t bring herself to actually be mad at Inuyasha. Her mind then began to drift to memories of tender moments together. Slowly losing focus, Kagome fell deeper into her thoughts before Akiko’s little voice brought her back. She then returned her gaze and focus to the scene unfolding in front of her.
“N-No, I just..” Akiko trailed off and sniffed, obviously trying to keep herself from crying.
“Just what?” Inuyasha asked immediately before tapping her nose again. Akiko wiggled and scrunched her nose in response.
“I didn’t know the name of the flower I’d picked for Lady Kagome. I messed up.” Akiko then began to fiddle her fingers, her hands moving in an anxious manner. Inuyasha simply sighed again and watched, resisting the urge to smirk at the little girl in front of him. Children had such simple problems.
“So what if you messed up? That’s how people learn, kid. Without mistakes we wouldn’t be able to grow as people.”
Both Kagome and Akiko blinked in surprise. Kagome was taken aback by Inuyasha’s… dare she say it, softness.
‘When did Inuyasha become so… understanding? Or maybe… thoughtful?’
“B-But I don’t like making mistakes,” Akiko replied, the corners of her mouth tugging into the form of a frown.
“No one does. But mistakes are going to happen anyways, so you might as well get used to it and learn from them.” Akiko shifted her gaze from the hanyou in front of her to the now crumpled medicinal herb in her hand. Sniffling from leftover tears, Akiko rubbed a hand against her face one last time before turning around and running over to Kagome.
“Lady Kagome, what’s the name of this herb?” Akiko asked, averting her gaze from Kagome’s chestnut eyes. Kagome simply put on her warmest smile so that whenever Akiko grew more comfortable, she’d be met with nothing but kindness.
“That’s chamomile. It’s good for easing upset stomachs and treating heartburn and nausea,” Kagome replied. The young miko felt her heart swell when Akiko returned her gaze. The smile on the young girl’s face was all Kagome needed to know that she was feeling better, that she was going to be okay.
“Oh! Do you think if I picked some more chamomile my mother would use it?”
“I think that would be extremely thoughtful of you, Akiko. I’m sure she’ll really appreciate it.” That encouragement was all Akiko needed to cheer up completely. Moving every which way, Akiko rambled off to whoever would listen while she picked more of the little white flowers that would help her mother. When she thought she’d picked enough, Akiko went to show Inuyasha and Kagome before making her way back to the village with her flowers and newfound knowledge. Inuyasha took the chance to sit next to Kagome as she continued to pick medicinal herbs.
“Keh, I still can’t believe you made the poor kid cry.”
“Oh would you quit with that? I didn’t even say anything to her before she started crying. Besides,” Kagome hesitated to look into Inuyasha’s golden orbs before continuing. “You know that I hate upsetting people.”
“Really now? That’s interesting considering the amount of times you’ve used those damn ‘Osuwari’ commands on me. Do you think I enjoy being slammed into the ground?”
“I only say ‘Osuwari’ when y-”
But Kagome realized her mistake too late. Without warning, Inuyasha was slammed into the ground by the force of the beads of subjugation. Kagome felt her sweat drop when Inuyasha sent a glare that sent shivers down her spine. Uh-oh.
“You’re gonna regret that wench,” Inuyasha growled before springing to life. Screaming more from delight than fear, Kagome dropped the herbs she’d been picking and made a run for it. Despite how angry she was able to make her hanyou companion, deep down Kagome knew that he would never intentionally do anything to put her in harm’s way. Their journey to find the Sacred Jewel shards more than proved that. How many times had he saved her, protected her? Kagome then began to feel melancholy and slowed down her run to a light jog. A moment later, she was swept off her feet bridal style and met with one of the smuggest expressions she’d seen in her life.
“You didn’t really put up much of a fight, wench. I thought you had more in you… Kagome, what’s wrong?” The girl, no, the young woman in his arms had started crying before he could even finish his sentence. Inuyasha didn’t know how much more he could handle the smell of salt. Inuyasha’s ears flattened against his head as he felt Kagome tremble in his arms. “Damn it, woman, what’s wrong?!” he exclaimed in frustration, more mad at himself for making Kagome cry than her actual crying.
“I just- I just- I missed you, I missed you so much!” Kagome sobbed before burying her face into Inuyasha’s haori-covered chest, gasping every so often in an attempt to calm down. Inuyasha just stood there holding her, not exactly sure of what he was supposed to do. Didn’t she know that he’d missed her more than he’d missed anything before? Had his actions not conveyed his feelings? Steeling himself, Inuyasha’s face grew determined as he mustered the courage to ask what he’d wanted to ask her the second she’d returned from the future.
‘Damn it, man, just do it!’
“Kagome, would you stay with me?” Inuyasha asked as if it were the most natural question in the world. Kagome’s sobbing then started to slow down. She blinked multiple times, partially from confusion and also to get rid of the remaining tears that stuck to the corner of her eyes. She was taken aback, confused by the abrupt question. How they’d gone from point A to point B was beyond her. She was just about to ask Inuyasha where that question had come from before getting a good look at his face.
The hanyou, her stubborn, proud, sometimes arrogant hanyou looked so nervous in that moment. Lower lip slightly tucked under his teeth, Inuyasha wasn’t even looking at her; he was looking to the side, as if her gaze would turn him to stone. Kagome didn’t miss the rosy hue his cheeks took on either. Kagome knew Inuyasha well enough to know what he was really hinting at, what he was really asking. She’d just assumed they would spend the rest of their lives together when she’d passed through the Bone-Eater’s well one final time.
Stifling the laugh that was beginning to rise in her chest, Kagome simply leaned her head against Inuyasha’s shoulder. She’d spare him the embarrassment; she knew how hard it was for Inuyasha to open up, let alone ask for things.
“Of course, Inuyasha,” Kagome replied before nestling her head in the crook of his neck, her tears having ceased. Inuyasha puffed his chest out slightly in victory. He’d done it, he’d finally done it. He’d finally asked Kagome to stay with him, to stand by his side. And best of all? He’d asked as if it were the easiest thing in the world… or so he thought.
Watching the sun begin to dip beneath the horizon, Inuyasha took that as his cue to head back to the village. The woman he loved still in his arms, Inuyasha walked at a leisurely pace so that he could enjoy every second of the moment. The two stayed like that, in companionable silence, until Inuyasha finally spoke.
“Hey Kagome?”
“Yes, Inuyasha?”
“... I missed you too.”

Hiatus
Hi friends,
If you’ve noticed, I haven’t been active as of late (mainly in posting content). I haven’t officially labeled my lack of activity being on hiatus but now I feel that I should. My life is kind of spiraling in regards to school and finances and relationships so I need to step away from Tumblr and take care of things and myself.
Absolutely NONE of the projects that I’ve mentioned (Inuvania, InuKag CPR idea, Inu in distress, etc.) have been forgotten. Please just be patient!

Chip on my shoulder: An InuKag Drabble
A/N: Hi friends! So this is my first inukag fanfiction, but I really wanted to share it because I’m really proud of it. Special thanks to @keichanz for proof reading it for me. Enjoy! Critique is welcomed!
Hand gripping the hilt of his sword, Inuyasha dashed through the forest.
‘How could I have been so stupid?’ the hanyou thought to himself. What kind of protector was he if the person he was trying to protect kept on getting in danger. That was the last time he would ever let her out of his sight again.
Leaping onto a low-hanging tree branch, Inuyasha paused and sniffed the air. Sifting through the many smells of the forest, Inuyasha focused in.
‘If anything happens to her I… I-’ He didn’t need to finish the thought; though it was faint, he could smell her. There was no mistake; he’d know that scent from anywhere. Wasting no time, Inuyasha leapt from tree to tree, making leaves fall and tree branches groan ever so slightly. Piercing golden eyes focusing ahead, Inuyasha quickened his pace as he followed Kagome’s scent.
‘You better be safe, Kagome!’
“I’ll come back straight after I finish my exam, I promise!” Kagome said, picking up her yellow backpack before slinging it over her shoulders.
“What’s the rush? Why not take advantage of the down time we have and a relax a bit in your era?” Miroku asked. Accompanied by Sango and Shippo, who rested on the taijiya’s shoulders, the duo nodded in agreement at the monk’s suggestion.
“Well, I figured since we’ve been making decent progress on collecting the jewel shards why not come back sooner to make even more progress?” the schoolgirl replied.
‘Besides, it’s my fault the jewel is in so many shards anyways...’
“Alright, if you’re sure. But don’t overwork yourself for our sakes,” Sango said as she flashed the miko an encouraging smile. Kagome returned the smile and nodded in response.
“I promise I won’t,” Kagome said before turning to face the Bone Eater’s Well. Hands resting on the edge of the well, Kagome looked down into the inky blackness that connected the Feudal Era to her own. She paused; something felt off.
‘This is almost too easy..’
She almost expected Inuyasha to show up at the last possible moment and tell her she wasn’t allowed to go, that she had to stay and help gather the jewel shards before Naraku got them all. While she definitely didn’t like being told what to do by a hanyou with a temper worse than hers, she couldn’t deny that the hanyou had a point. And maybe, just maybe, he also didn’t want her to go because he’d miss her. Even though she was flattered at the prospect of him missing her, she knew she’d never hear him say that; he was just too proud.
“Kagome?” Shippo asked as he hopped onto her shoulder, breaking the girl from her reverie. Feeling her cheeks slightly warm, Kagome blinked a few times before turning her head to face the young kitsune.
“Ah, I’m sorry, did I zone out?”
“Only a little bit,” Shippo replied with a toothy grin. “Oh, don’t worry about Inuyasha coming after you to bring you back while you’re taking care of that ‘eggs-ham’ demon. Kaede needed help gathering some medicinal herbs. While I don’t remember him specifically agreeing to help, I did hear him say something along the lines of ‘gotta make sure the old hag doesn’t work herself to death’ before following behind Kaede.”
Kagome sighed and shook her head slightly. There was that pride again: Inuyasha was all bark and no bite. Still, whether he was aware of it or not, he really did have a nice side, and she really admired how proud he was at times. She wouldn’t be caught dead telling him that to his face though, it would go straight to his head.
“Good to know, thanks Shippo,” said Kagome, smiling at him. Shippo gave her a quick hug before scampering back over to Miroku and Sango. Kagome hoisted herself over the well, legs hanging over the edge, and looked back at her friends one last time.
“Wish me luck!” the school girl exclaimed before jumping into the well, a faint flash of blue emerging once she’d successfully returned to her era.
At least, that was the story the runt had told him once he’d come back from helping Kaede. Inuyasha had been secretly relieved at the time, because the day she’d left was also the day of the New Moon, when he was at his most vulnerable. He hated the fact that Kagome had to see him like that- how could he protect her if he struggled just to protect himself? However, as soon as the sun had risen over the horizon the following day he’d gone through the well to give her a few choice words for not asking for his permission to go home.
That’s when things had begun to take a turn for the worst. After he’d made his way into the Higurashi residence, he remembered the feeling of his heart dropping when Mrs. Higurashi had told him that Kagome wasn’t home, that she’d gone through the well for whatever reason last night. That’s when he knew something was wrong.
‘I promise I’ll find you, Kagome. Just hold on a little bit longer!’ Inuyasha thought to himself as he soared over the treetops, a glowing red and white dot against the darkness of the night sky. Moonlight washing over the forest below, Inuyasha stopped in his tracks when he noticed smoke billowing over the tree line.
Sniffing in the direction of the smoke stack, he caught traces of Kagome’s scent intermingled with the smoke’s almost overpowering stench. Inuyasha leaped through the trees, closing the distance between the smoke stack and himself.
“I swear I’ll tear them apart if they so much as lay a… hand on…” Inuyasha’s voice trailed off. Ears twitching towards the now visible fire, he blinked as he saw Kagome standing in front of what looked like two cowering bandits.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” Inuyasha muttered under his breath as he drew closer.
Even though Kagome’s hands were bound behind her back, she was anything but helpless. Her brown eyes glared at the two men cowering beneath her as she continued to drill them with questions, her gaze never wavering.
“Have you no shame? How dare you just go around and kidnap any pretty girl you see? You’re despicable!” The two men continued to shake in fear, until something behind Kagome caused them to look higher. As Kagome was going to turn around and see what the fuss was about, strong arms picked her up around the torso and lifted her onto their shoulder. Kagome began kicking out of instinct until she noticed the familiar white mane and red haori.
“Inuyasha!” Kagome exclaimed, relief washing over as she tried to crane her neck over her shoulder to catch his gaze.
“Calling this wench ‘pretty’ might be a little generous, but she is right in calling you two despicable. Are you two such cowards that the only way a woman will come near you is if you make them, or are your personalities just that shitty?”
“W-We’re sorry! Honest!” the two blubbered. Inuyasha smirked at them before turning his gaze deadly serious.
“Next time you fuck with what’s mine you won’t get off so easy,” Inuyasha threatened before turning around and walking away into the night.
Kagome mulled over his words as Inuyasha continued to carry her over his shoulder, deep in thought as she tried to determine if she’d heard him right.
‘Did he really just call me… his?’ Kagome’s cheeks burned at the thought. ‘But if I’m really his, then why…’
“Why haven’t you untied me yet?” Kagome asked, her situation finally dawning on her.
“Be quiet, wench,” Inuyasha replied, not even offering a glance in her direction.
“Why? And why are you so angry? I didn’t do anything wrong, and I was handling myself just fine until y- hey!” Kagome exclaimed in surprise as Inuyasha quickly shifted Kagome into a bridal style carry before leaping into the nearest tree. Heart pounding, more confused than anything, Kagome blinked in surprise as she waited for an explanation.
“Inu… yasha-”
“Never pull that shit on me again,” Inuyasha snapped, piercing golden eyes meeting soft brown. Noticing the rising fear in the girl’s eyes, Inuyasha cursed himself before taking a deep breath. He was never good at conveying what he was feeling- hell, half the time he wished he didn’t have stupid feelings to mull over. It would be so much easier that way! The smell of tears broke his train of thought, and his heart dropped when he saw pools of tears pour down Kagome’s eyes.
“I-I’m sorry. I’m sorry I’m always the one getting targeted. I’m sorry if I get in the way. I’m sorry that I’m so we-” Inuyasha cut the girl off by wrapping his arms around her and bringing her head to rest on his chest. And it could have been Kagome’s imagination, but she almost swore that she felt Inuyasha slightly tremble while in his embrace.
“That’s not… That’s not what I meant,” Inuyasha admitted, pausing at the feeling of his cheeks burning. “You scared the shit out of me, Kagome. I thought something bad had happened, something worse than what did happen.” A sigh racked his frame as he paused once again, mulling through the many thoughts and emotions swirling in his mind.
Kagome blinked in surprise. Maybe she hadn’t heard wrong.
“Hey… Inuyasha?”
“What is it now, wench?”
“Thank you,” said Kagome. She moved to nuzzle the crook of his neck. “I promise to try and not scare you like that anymore.”
“You damn well better. You’re safer with me around, being a god damn clutz and all…”
“That reminds me, Inuyasha,” Kagome said, her voice turning sickeningly sweet as she lifted her head to meet his gaze. “What exactly did you mean back there when you said that calling me ‘pretty’ was generous?”
“Oi, don’t try to turn this around on me, bitch! You should be thanking me for rescuing you again,” Inuyasha quipped, meeting her gaze head on.
“Did you forget what I said earlier, or are you going deaf dog boy? Also, when are you going to untie me?”
“When I feel like it,” Inuyasha replied with a cheeky grin. Wriggling backwards in an attempt to “escape”, Kagome almost fell off of the branch. It wasn’t even a second later, though, that Inuyasha shot an arm behind her and brought her close again. The two looked at each other, and before they knew it they were both laughing.
Neither of them had said everything that they wanted to say, but perhaps what was said was just enough.

Inuvember Day 2: Main Gang
A/N: Hi all! It’s pretty obvious that I’ve fallen behind on trying to write every day for Inuvember. BUT! I finally have a follow-up chapter. This was originally only going to be in two parts, but then I got to writing it and with the direction it’s been going I really think it’ll flow better as three parts.
Yes this is still a follow up of Chapter 1, and yes Chapter 3 is in the works (and will come out MUCH sooner than this one did). I hope you enjoy! There’s not a lot of InuKag fluff (or Main Gang interactions yet) but that’s what the next chapter is for ;) Thank you to the people who’ve maintained an interest and who have been so so SO patient with me <3
Chapter One can be found here
Discord ladies! @keichanz @morikothehalfangel @blackpearltotheright @eternalnight8806-3 @noviceotakus-blog @amostsovereignlady @cammysansstuff(If I didn’t tag you and you wanted to be tagged just DM me! Likewise, if I tagged you and you didn’t want to be tagged, please let me know!)
Kagome didn’t know how much longer she could take being stared at. Setting her gaze straight ahead on the dirt road below her feet, she did her best to avoid the curious looks of the villagers as she and her friends walked through the unfamiliar village. The gang had decided, after hearing rumors of a demon possessing a jewel shard, that their best bet would be to guess which village the demon would go after next and wait for it; hence their current location. However, Kagome’s patience in the village and with the villagers in particular was growing thin. It took all of the girl’s willpower to not snap at each set of peering eyes pinned on her.
This wasn’t the first time she’d received looks on their travels. On the contrary, she was quite used to it, or at least should be. But something about how the looks from these villagers in particular were paired with frowns of disapproval put Kagome on edge. It didn’t help matters any that the group she travelled with was anything but conventional or “normal”-looking. Inuyasha and Shippo aside, how often did a woman taijiya and lecherous monk walk around in the open? Slowing her pace, Kagome closed her eyes and took a deep breath in an effort to calm down and forget the pointed leers she continued to receive from the villagers. She could do this, she was better than this...
That proved to be her undoing. Lost in her own thoughts, her friends’ concerned cries didn’t reach her until she’d walked into a man who stood in front of her. Blinking profusely as she was brought back to her senses, Kagome slowly turned her head to face the man she’d accidentally bumped into. He was about a head taller than her with jet black hair put up into a top knot, the standard physique you’d expect of a villager, and piercing gray eyes. Trying to find the words to properly apologize to the man before her, Kagome felt her voice catch in her throat when she was met with the man’s angry glare.
“Oi, wench. You better watch where you’re going,” the man said before giving her a once over. With a pointed finger facing the opposite direction, he added “Oh, and the whore house is over that way, or did you get lost?”
Kagome’s sympathy soon transformed into anger. Swallowing her fear and turning it into courage, Kagome returned the stranger’s angry glare and cocked an eyebrow. Standing tall, she placed her hands on her hips before letting her tongue fly. Had she not been so focused on telling off the man in front of her, she would have heard Inuyasha growling as well as Miroku and Sango pointedly whispering at him to calm down and keep it together.
“I am not a whore, I’m a priestess, and I’d appreciate it if you treated me with a little more respect while my friends and I are in town.” A slight flush appeared on Kagome’s face as the villager seemingly ignored her and continued to stare. Patience thinning, Kagome all but cried “Would you stop staring at me?!” before the villager finally thought to give a response.
“If you are a priestess as you say, then dress like one. Otherwise, don’t be upset if people assume otherwise.” Before the villager could turn around and leave, though, Inuyasha stomped forward and grabbed the man by the outer folds of his rough kimono. Growling despite himself, Inuyasha’s amber eyes glared into the villager’s gray ones.
“I’m gonna give you 10 seconds to take back what you just said, or so help me-”
“That’s enough, Inuyasha,” Miroku interjected as he stepped in between the two man. Letting one last snarl escape his lips, Inuyasha released his hold on the man before stuffing his arms back into the sleeves of his haori. The villager wasted no time in scrambling away, his previous air of confidence having evaporated. Once the villager was out of sight, Miroku released a sigh before staring pointedly at Inuyasha. Just as he was about to chastise the half demon, though, an elderly couple appeared and stood before Kagome. Grasping the priestess’ hands with his own callused ones, the elderly man gave Kagome a desperate look before speaking up about his troubles.
“Oh priestess, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble, would you mind coming to our inn to bless our grandchild? H-He’s been so sick, and we worry that… that-”
Kagome moved her hands so that she was grasping the old man’s hands instead, effectively cutting the him off. Flashing him a warm smile, Kagome nodded in response.
“Of course. In exchange, would it be too much trouble to put my friends and I up for the night?” Kagome asked, removing a hand to gesture to said friends. Both the old man and woman nodded avidly before taking charge at the front of the group and leading the way.

1, 4 and 25 for the Fanfic Writing ask!
1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?
That… is actually a very good question LOL. I want to say that I started in like… sophomore year of highschool? My friends and I made (and still occasionally continue to write) a sort of self-insert Legend of Zelda AU. I also used to rp on Facebook in the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom but we don’t talk about that. Other than that, though, I’m relatively new on the fanfiction writing scene. I’ve read lots of fanfiction, just haven’t written a lot (yet! I have so many WiPs and ideas swirling around in my head XD)
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?
I love writing Angst. Don’t particularly know why; maybe I just love seeing how the characters comfort one another and persevere after trauma? Or maybe I just like putting my favorite characters into precarious situations.
I also like to write fluff though, and I try to add a splash of comedy/irony when I can in anything I write.
25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story?
Nope! I have lots of stories I still want to write just haven’t… actually… written them (because I’m kinda bad lol)
Thank you SO SO SO SO MUCH for the ask! It was a lot of fun to answer!
Ask me questions from this writing ask!
