“You came.”
There’s a brief moment of silence between the two. Shoyo stands in the doorway, chest heaving, water dripping from his face and clothes. She hadn’t even noticed it was raining. She steps to the side and he walks in, silent. The door falls shut with a quiet click. Still, they are silent.
“You—”
“Of course I did.” His voice comes out quiet, softer than usual, an unfamiliar rasp to it. Her stomach does a flip and warmth spreads throughout her. “Of course I came. You asked me to.”
She looks down, unable to meet his eyes. She stares down at her sock ridden feet, the muddy shoe prints, his beat up sneakers that he’s had for years. She keeps telling him to get a new pair, but he refuses. “I didn’t . . .” She trails off, clearing her throat. “I didn’t think you would. You know, after . . .”
“Yeah.” He saves her from having to continue. The same silence from a moment ago settles again. She wants to leave. She wants him to stay. She wants to cry and throw up. She wants him to hold her. “I, uh, wasn’t really busy, so. . .” He shrugs.
She nods, pressing her lips together in a desperate attempt to hold back everything that she wants to say to him. Instead, she settles on, “I missed you.”
He lets out a seemingly involuntary sigh, but catches himself before his lungs are rid of all air. “Yeah,” he says quietly. “I, uh, missed you, too.”
After a few long moments of silence, she looks back up at him. He, of course, is staring at his own shoes. For the first time in a long time—two weeks—she looks at him. Really looks at him. The way his hair curls more in one place than in another. The way the freckles on his arms are darker—a reminder that the sun is finally coming out after four long months of cold. The stain on his hoodie that has probably been there for months on end.
Brown eyes meeting her own snaps her out of the daze. His eyes are wide as he catches her staring at him, eyes shamelessly darting over his body.
“When do you leave?” The words come rushing out of her before she can stop them—like a dam has burst and there’s no other safeguards in place to stop the water. Her lips part slightly, breath becoming uneven for a second. She shakes her head and swallows hard. “Sorry. I didn’t . . . We don’t have to talk about that. I just want to . . .” She shrugs. “I just want to hang out. Is that okay?”
With a silent nod from him, she walks into the living room and sits down on the couch. She hears the squeaking of shoes, and doesn’t have to look to know Shoyo is walking over to the couch.
Her parents aren’t home tonight—the main reason she had texted him at all. She’s never liked being alone before. Hates the quiet of it all, hates the loneliness.
The couch dips under his weight as he sits down. She pulls a knee up to her chest and rests her chin on it. “We can watch a movie,” she mumbles, not bothering to look over at him. Out of her peripheral vision, she can see him fold his hands in his lap. “Coraline, Superbad, Fast and Furious.”
“May seventeenth.”
She looks over at him, only to find him staring at the ground in front of him, zoning out. “What?”
“May seventeenth,” he repeats, leaning forward to put his head in his hands. “That’s when I leave for Brazil.”
Her heart drops to her stomach. May seventeenth, she repeats in her head. She pulls her other leg up and wraps her arms around them, staring at the side of his face.
“They wanted me down there in June, but then there was talk about pre-season training and . . . And now I’m leaving in May.”
She blinks a couple times. There was never any doubt of him leaving. Once he told her, she knew it was final, there was no changing that. But she had been under the impression that he would be leaving for university—in August or September. Maybe it’s her fault for not asking three weeks ago. She knows it’s her fault the argument started, then.
“My mom and sister are coming to stay with me for a couple weeks. Just until I get settled in.” She notices that he now has his head in his hands. “You could do the same, you know.” His voice is quiet, like he’s scared.
“Sho . . .”
“Yeah.” A nod, followed by a sniffle. She swallows hard and her eyes start to sting. “I know. You can’t. I figured I would ask anyway.”
“May seventeenth is so soon,” she whispers.
“Twenty-seven days,” he replies, too quickly for him to not be worried about it. “We— I have twenty-seven days before I leave.” Finally, he turns to look at her, visibly surprised when he finds her staring back.
“We could have had more time,” she says simply, looking away from him quickly. “If I hadn’t started that stupid argument. I’m sorry, Sho. God, I’m so sorry. I don’t—”
“I shouldn’t have told you the way I did,” he interrupts. She looks at him just as he shakes his head. “I shouldn’t have sprung it on you like that. It’s not just your fault.”
His eyes are glossy and, from the sting, she thinks hers are too. She takes a deep breath, air filling her lungs until it hurts, then breathes out, a humorless laugh coming out. “May seventeenth. May seventeenth. That’s next month. Wow.”
“We still have time.” His voice cracks and she almost chokes on her own spit. She’s seen Shoyo cry exactly one time—after eating a pepper without realizing it was spicy. Tonight is going to be the second time, she thinks with a heartbreaking realization. “We still have time, yeah? We can hang out everyday. Have sleepovers—my mom won’t mind, she loves you. When does the fair come into town? We can go every day that it’s here. And— we still have time.”
She gives him a small smile, accompanied by a single tear rolling down her cheek.
Shoyo has been in her life for five years now. She was one of the first—and only—people to attend his volleyball games in middle school. Even when there were barely any people on the team, she was there. When Shoyo joined the volleyball club in first year, but was conflicted because of Kageyama, she was there, telling him he should keep at it. When Shoyo had his heart broken for the first time, she was, reluctantly, there.
And vice versa, of course.
She scoots closer to him and lays her head on his shoulder. She sniffles, then he does, and they share a laugh. She doesn’t have to like it, she doesn’t have to think about it, because, for now, he’s here. For now, they still have time.

Tsukihina for the soullllll
Tsukishima knows he's an asshole. But he's not a sociopath. Obviously, he felt bad for being mean.
But one time, he was no worse than normal with his insults, and hinata backed away, almost a look of horror in his eyes.
He does that often. After coming out of his shell at school and in practice, he actually had a kind of decent poker face. But his emotions were always clear in his eyes. He could always find his emotions and intentions in the mixed layers of brown and gold.
He never wanted to be responsible for that look of horror, though.
Hinata had stomped off to a small nearby park, which left tsukishima to think. He thought about his brother, how he'd been lied to, and how that had probably left him with the need to be brutally honest, regardless of whether it hurt someone's feelings. He didn't care if a girl cried when he rejected her; he wasn't entitled to accept her feelings.
Quite frankly, he didn't even like girls. His brother had once given him a magazine designed for kids his age, around 13, in which there was an article about the best ways to get a girl to like you. There were tips about dates and gifts to get the girl you liked. There were drawn little love hearts all over, and even then, before he'd found out about akiteru, it didn't interest him. He'd decided that maybe he didn't like girls and gave the magazine back. That was clearly the right decision because here he was, worrying if the boy who had just stomped off in angry tears (thanks to him) was ok; if he would ever consider to be his friend. He wanted desperately to be friends with hinata. He just didn't know how to blend their contrasting personalities yet. But hinata probably wouldn't want to be friends with him, not after being a dick to him all year,,, But hinata was a very easily forgiving guy,,,
So he followed hinata to the park. Hinata has never been particularly violent, but he loved to break things when he was angry. He could easily smash bottles against a wall, or large sticks against a tree, as he was now, or just crushing something in his hands. Once or twice he had accidentally crushed shards of broken glass, leaving small cuts all over his palms. Tsukishima had noticed them, but never asked where they'd come from. They would study together, even though Tsukishima insisted that it would be the last time and that he hated tutoring him, and as hinata wrote increasingly more and more aggressively as he got more frustrated, he always searched for the scars. He noticed one at the top left side of his palm, one on the very tip of his middle finger, and one in between his thumb and index finger. On his right hand, there was a long and faded scar across his knuckles, which he assumed was from punching something. He wanted to look for the rest of the scars.
As he watched hinata beat a large stick against a tree, with chunks of bark flying off, he couldn't help but think of akiteru. He came up behind him and grabbed the stick from him. "I'm sorry." "Have you ever considered that maybe you don't need to be such a dick to every single person just for breathing? You said that kageyama was the king because he's a dictator on the court, but you're just as bad! You think you're better than everybody else and then you laugh when they get angry. And it doesn't help that you're basically perfect, either! You look different from everybody else cause of your blonde hair, but nobody cares because at least blonde is an attractive color! And not to mention you're just already attractive on your own! And you get perfect grades, and hoardes of girls confessing their love to you. You have the perfect build for volleyball, and no one judges you because you don't 'look right' for your position, and you're stupid talented and everybody on the court gets jealous of you, no matter how dumb you are to realize that. It also doesn't help that I'm basically in love with you, but what do I know, I'm just a dumb shrimp, right?" He'd started crying again in the middle of his rant, and tugged the stick out of tsukishima's hands to hit it against the tree again. Of course, Tsukishima immediately looked to his hands to see the scars that lingered, and noticed a cut from the branch. He looked to his eyes to see the tears, and so much pent up anger. "I think I'm basically in love with you too, shoyo. Im sorry. I never meant the things I've said to you. I thought it was easier to push people away and be an asshole than to be hurt again. If you'd give me the chance, I'll make it up to you. I'll buy us some meat buns." Hinata looked back, laughed, and dropped the stick.
They talked through their feelings for the next few hours, eating meat buns, and Tsukishima carefully took care of the cut on his hand.

how did it end? — hinata x reader
ੈ𑁍༘⋆ didn’t you hear? they called it all off. after your relationship falls apart, you find yourself trying to pick up the pieces. in the midst of the wreckage, you still can’t figure out exactly why it all ended.
word count. 1.5k content. angst, breakup fic
Tumblr media
You remember when you first moved in. It was a hot summer day and there was a leak in the kitchen. It wasn’t there when you bought the place and Shoyo had spent the whole morning arguing with the realtor because of it. You remember seeing him get all frustrated and having to tell him to calm down, that it would be fine.
“I just wanted it to be perfect,” he told you when he got off the phone. The two of you were sitting on the floor of your bare living room, sucking on popsicles and wiping the sweat from your foreheads.
His words warmed your heart, which might have seemed counterproductive in the heat, but you didn’t care. All you could do was smile at him and take his hand and say, “Look around. It’s already perfect.”
He lit up at your words, suddenly all giddy as looked around the place. Your place. For both of you.
He kissed you then and you laughed, jokingly shoving him away, reminding him of the heat, but he didn’t care. You didn’t either.
Things were easier then. Lighter, happier. Better.
You look around the living room now, bare once more, stripped of all signs of life that had once filled its walls, and you wonder if things will ever be that good again. And you realize that they probably won’t.
“You okay?” Sakusa asks you. He’s carrying a box of your things, things that had once had a place in this home and don’t anymore. “Are you missing anything?”
You shake your head. “I’m fine,” you tell him, picking up a box at your feet. “We should go.”
All of your things are split between the trunk of your car and Sakusa’s. After he heard about what happened, he had offered to help you move your things to your new place. At that point, you hadn’t even considered leaving this house, your home. You never thought you’d have to look for a new place again.
“Is there anything else?” Sakusa asks as he closes the trunk of his car.
You look at the boxes of your things, the empty house behind you, the winding road ahead with an unfamiliar destination. You can’t help the tears that fall from your eyes. “I—I can’t,” you say, turning back to the house. “I can’t leave. It’s not over yet.”
Your friend has a pained expression on his face. He says your name, quietly, sadly. “What do you want to do?”
“Can I call him?”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”
But you’re already fumbling through your pockets, pulling your phone out. “I’m gonna call him.”
You tap on his number, still at the top of your contacts list. You worry your lip as you listen to the phone ring once. Twice. Thrice.
He declines.
You ring him again.
Decline.
Again.
Decline.
“Please stop,” Sakusa says, prying the phone from your hands. “He won’t answer. I’m sorry.”
You look back at the house. Did it always look so empty? So lifeless? So miserable?
“I just need a minute,” you tell him, rubbing your tears away with the back of your hand. “Just a minute,” you say, walking towards the house. To soothe it? To stop its pain? You don’t know. “I’ll be back.”
You push through the doors and suddenly you’re back at the beginning.
Shoyo stands by the staircase with a fresh bouquet, grinning that boyish grin of his. “Happy anniversary,” he says.
You frown. “It’s not our anniversary.”
“I know,” he tells you, still grinning. “But it will be in three months. Thought I’d get you something in advance.”
You launch yourself into his arms and he peppers your face with kisses as you giggle and clutch the bouquet to your chest. “I love it,” you tell him, pulling away to look him square in the eye. “Thank you.”
You’re back in the present, standing at the staircase, arms empty, the warmth of his embrace gone. How long had it been since the two of you were that happy? That careless with your joy?
A month ago, you were both at the staircase too. You were standing at the top, him at the bottom. The distance hurt you more than it should have.
“I can’t deal with this anymore,” you told him. You weren’t crying, you were just staring at him, all tired and drained. “You know that, right? You know I can’t.”
You felt for the ring on your finger. It had been there for two years already, a promise that was yet to be fulfilled. A promise that you had been waiting on for so long, one that never came and would never come.
He gripped the rails and shook his head. “I don’t know what you want from me."
He had a different look on his face, one that you wouldn’t have recognized two years ago but had become increasingly familiar with in the last few weeks. You were both tired, and that was never going to end well no matter what you did.
“Put me first,” you told him. Asking. Begging. Pleading. “Just put me first for once.”
You grip the railing now and you wonder why it didn’t end there. Because it didn’t. Somehow, you found it in yourselves to keep going, keep breathing life into the corpse that was the two of you for two more weeks.
You should’ve let it end there. Maybe it would’ve made more sense.
You wander to the kitchen, the place where you once considered that you might’ve been the happiest you’d ever be.
It was a Sunday night, Shoyo had spent his day off with you, going to your favorite spots around the city, having dinner at the place you two loved, lying on the couch and watching all the shows you’d missed. You found yourselves washing the bowls you’d used for ice cream, chatting about your day, the things you could do next week.
You thought that you were already happy then, that things couldn’t get much better, but Shoyo wasn’t having any of that.
As you placed the last bowl on the drying rack, you found your boyfriend on his knees. There was a ring in his hands. No box, just a ring. He later told you that he’d kept it in his pajama pocket because he was so scared of losing it and you’d laughed at him and told him you understood.
He was nervous, the words getting all jumbled in his mouth until all he could say was, “Do you—do you maybe wanna marry me?”
You nodded your head and leaned down to kiss him. He slid the ring onto your finger and you held him tight. You never wanted to let him go.
You twist the ring on your finger now. He told you to keep it, but you’d been contemplating giving it back. Maybe Sakusa could pass it along. Or Atsumu. Any one of your friends would do. You just know you can’t give it to him directly. He won’t have that.
You tap the kitchen table, still there, part of what you decided to sell with the house because neither of you wanted to keep it. You both know why, but you never said it out loud.
It was where things ended, more or less.
You had sat down for dinner, the week building up to that moment had been tense, but not anything special. You were bracing yourself for another fight, another cool down, another restless night of sleep before things went back to normal. You don’t know if you should’ve realized it was coming. You guess you never will.
“We need to talk,” he said and you listened.
You both poured out all the things that bothered you, the things you wanted to fix, the things that were clearly going wrong. It was a civil conversation, diplomatic and understanding. You talked and talked, trying to piece together the things neither of you could understand on your own. You thought it would work, you thought it was going well.
But it went on for too long. You circled around the same concerns again and again. You put things together only to watch them fall apart. It felt like building a sandcastle by the sea only for the whole thing to be washed away by the waves in seconds.
In the end, you realized that you were going nowhere. This was going nowhere.
So you stopped trying to fix it. You both did. There was no point trying to bring something back when it had clearly been gone for a while already.
You look at the table now. You look at the marks you left on it, where you had both engraved your initials. Shoyo had been so happy when you agreed to doing it.
“We’ll be here forever,” he told you as he pressed the cutter to the wood. His head was bent, focusing and carefully carving each stroke.
You were sitting beside him, head on his shoulder. You smiled. “We’ll be here forever.”

notes. i’ve been in a weird place recently, picking at old wounds and all, so my writing’s been all over the place. i’m trying not to touch any of my series right now (mainly because i’m scared i’ll mess with the plots too much to backtrack), so here’s a little fic for now <3

°`🍨: Haikyuu x GN! Reader/ Ryujin Nippon x Reader
°`🍨: Spoiling it by saying something stupid like "I love you"
Tumblr media
When you stepped on the court, you took my breath away. As if time stopped, I was only able to look at you. Your smile, your trembling lips from the nerves you probably felt before the match and your shining eyes from excitement, made my heart beat faster. It felt like it bumped as fast as one of your spikes, hitting your opponent's field, scoring an important point for your team. The screams from pure joy you released with your fans while bumping the air, made me shake in my seat as if your joy was infectious. Your chest always looked wider when it swelled with pride. Even if you lost your match, you stayed humble while salty tears stained your cheeks. It didn't help that I always feel like falling in love all over again, sitting near the court watching you living your dream. From the day I met you, I knew I got hit by cupid's oh so stupid arrows straight through my heart. My cheeks burned in a glowing red when you smiled at me. Your cheeky remarks when I tried to help you train even if it was your day off, where you should have rested, made butterflies fly wildly through my stomach. I never once have felt disappointed for giving you my heart in secret through small gestures until my chest was empty. Only a black hole remained, but I was satisfied with it. I only wanted to support you, be there when you held the gold in your own hand for the first time, hug you when the pressure got to you and smile proudly when I talk about you to my other friends. Friends knew how I felt, but only you weren’t able to see it. My eyes going soft after a long day when I heard your laugh. My sweaty hands, that I rub on the texture of my jeans when I am near you. My shaky voice, when I feel a little bit too much love for you right at this moment you look at me. But I was never sad that you didn't see any of these hints. Being your friend made me happy enough to live on like that. Ignoring my own feelings to protect you from this trouble. Never having the heart to stand between you and your love for volleyball. But I still ruined it. It was only a moment between us two. A moment where I wasn't careful enough. Talking, yapping and rambling about my feelings after a long time, and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like “I love you”. When I realized what I said, my smile faded like the colour in my face. My breath stuck in my throat and I started to tear up. I didn't even need to hear your answer to my sudden confession. Your troubled face made it clear enough. My love for you would only chain you to me and rob you from your freedom. The freedom you need to spread your wings to fly high in the sky. I started to run. Faster than I thought I ever could and never stopped. I never once stopped to run away from you, your answer, my feelings and the future that could have been. A future at your side, like I wished to be. I ignored your calls and never opened your text messages. I even went so far to buy a new phone with a new number to never let you catch up to me. I loved you so strongly, that I feared you needed to choose between me and volleyball that you loved with your whole body, mind and soul. I was scared to imagine this moment. So I just choose to run. I wouldn't ever be able to forgive myself if you are hurt by me and my stupid feelings. And now I was only a ghost. A ghost standing between so many fans, that you were never able to spot me if you tried to look for me. A shadow that disappeared before you went to greet your fans, that supported you like I always will. This was enough for me and it needed to be. I just hope you still will remember my promise to always be your number one fan, that never stopped running, hurting and crumbling because of my stupid feelings I never lost for you.

watchin' through windows you're wondering if i'm okay secrets stolen from deep inside the drum beats out of time.
Tumblr media
8 years, 11 months, and 7 days.
it's been 8 years, 11 months and 7 days since you accepted the nervous love confession from a short ginger boy back in your second year of highschool.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, have passed since then. you still can't wrap your head around it, around how much time has passed since then.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, with this short ginger boy. only, he's not much of a short boy anymore, rather he's grown within the passed time, still not too tall, but he's surely earned his title of a man. spending his years doing hard work and exercise has rewarded him with a well-sculpted body, you can't say the same for you.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, filled with exploration, experience, and love with this ginger boy. you had practically grown with him into adulthood; the two of you attached to the hip and spending every second together.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, where the two of you shared many firsts with one another. first date, first boyfriend/girlfriend, first kiss, and first sexual experience. you always look back at those memories with a twinge of redness on your cheeks, cringing cheekily at the way the two of you would be so awkward.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, of constant questions and slandering on the bond of your relationship with him. you always defended him, and he did so in return. you always brushed of those pesky little, "don't you two get sick of each other?" questions with a smile, watching from afar as you sat alone on a bench while he practiced yet again for volleyball.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, full of little moments here and there where the two of you would talk about your future, making silly promises and declarations of love to each other. "i wanna be a pro-volleyball player and want you to be there while i am!"
yes, it's been 8 years, 11 months and 7 days. your precious hinata shouyo is on one of the best volleyball teams in brazil, and you are there for him while he practices once more. he dragged you out to the nearest beach at 5am, babbling on about how pretty the sunrise looks, and that he wants you to watch him practice.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days full of watching what seems to be the same scene over and over, where shouyo practices volleyball and looks over at you with a proud smile when he manages to do a good jump. of course, you praise him for his skills, you adore him for it, to be so passionate about his dream.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days of worshipping the ground he walked on. you had nothing but stars and hearts in your eyes for him, wanting nothing more than to attend all of his big events by his side. of course, he worshipped you just as much as you did for him, never failing to kiss the back of your hand for being so supportive of him.
and, it's been, 8 years, 11 months and 7 days. durning those long years, there was a time, when you had nobody but shouyo, there was a time, when you would kill all your friends for him. you're nothing but appreciative of him for being there for you during those times.
but — it's been 8 years, 11 months and 7 days.
your eyes are crinkled up into narrow crescents, but you're not smiling anymore when he makes a good jump. you're sitting alone once more, a little way away from the net, legs pressed up against your chest.
you can't help the fine line your lips make subconsciously, eyebrows slightly furrowed, arms wrapped around your knees defensively despite wearing shouyo's jacket. he said the sunrise would be pretty, but it seems a little too blue and gloom, dark clouds blocking the rising sun.
he looks over at you, yelling out your name after he does what you would usually consider an impressive move, expecting the best reward that is to him — your praise. but you don't.
but.. it's been 8 years, 11 months and 7 days since then, so why are you now feeling nothing, after all these years?
after 8 years, 11 months and 7 days, looking at the way he's looking at you with that warm look in his eyes, is now stinging. after 8 years, 11 months and 7 days, he's the only one for you.
"y/n?" he calls out. his volleyball long forgotten on the soft sand, standing cautiously in place, lips pouting at your silence. but you're not listening, too wrapped up at the fact that is inevitable.
the sand crunches under his bare feet when he's walking towards you, a ginger eyebrow lifting in concern. "are you alright? are you sleepy? cold?" he questions, leaning down and laying a warm hand against the side of your cheek.
8 years, 11 months and 7 days, and his touch is no longer sending goosebumps down your spine.
but he's the only one for you?
he blinks at you a couple of times when you've still yet to respond. "..let's go home, it's cold isn't it?" he mumbles softly, his hand taking yours, feeling a little relieved when you are finally responding to him, albeit you're still not talking and more or less just following him back home.
he talks to you on the way home, his arm wrapped snuggly around your shoulder as he asks you various questions on what you want to do for the upcoming 9th anniversary of your relationship with him.
8 years, and 11 months and 7 days — for the first time, you're not sure if you want to do anything with him for that day. but for the sake of his feelings, you nod along to his ideas after you lack any suggestions of your own. his body jumps up and down at the excitement, his arm never leaving your shoulder.
"wow! 9 years with you~," he happily says, leaning down to practically inhale the side of your cheek and kissing it lovingly.
after 8 years, 11 months and 7 days, you don't know if the two of you will make it to the 9th.

"SOMETHING YOU LOVE TURNS TO SOMETHING YOU MISS!"
on the other end of the phone, your boyfriend shows off his gleaming tan happily. you know his phone is sat on the ground, angled just so you can see him hitting numerous tosses he's given.
seeing him happy made you grin. but, a part of you longed to be in his arms - longed to see him play in person. the warmth he'd brought ; the scent of his cologne mixing with his laundry detergent ; the thought was enough to bring tears to your eyes.
"did you see that?!" hinata grins as he grabs at his phone. you shake yourself from your reminiscing, docile smile painting your lips instead. "-like POW! and then he went WOAH! baby, that was such a good shot!"
you grin, "you always play so amazing, sho'."
his cheeks darken slightly, face tilting to the ground shyly. cheers and teasing is heard in the background - hinata ignores them to focus on you. his eyes droop, "miss having you hug me when i make a good shot. and your winning kisses. miss you."
you let out a sigh, laying your head on your arm. "miss you, too. only a few more days."
hinata nods, "a few more days."

You and Shoyo were friends since what felt like forever.
You remember doing everything together. Riding bikes to school together, falling asleep while binge watching volleyball matches, buying ice cream after school without any of your parents knowing … your high school years with Shoyo really were the days you cherish, even now.
Your friendship with him was special. He was just another kid in the neighborhood, and within a few months, he became your best friend. You felt safe with him, and he did anything to keep you close. Shoyo was one of the most important people in your life, he was like a brother.
Well, what's the problem? Somewhere along the lines of spending hundreds of hours with you, Shoyo fell in love.
He first noticed it in his first year of college. He noticed how every little thing you do makes him more nervous about what you think of him. You would hand him a cup of water, and he'd think for just a second about how he should take it. Should he grab it and smile brightly at you … or take it normally and utter a sweet 'thank you'? He's never over thought this much in his life!
At first, he wanted to tell you straight away, but something inside him kept telling him not to. He was scared that your friendship might fall apart, or maybe you'd move away, and just all the bad things.
But luckily, you two stayed friends even after college. You even became the reporter for MSBY Black Jackals. You were so happy that you got to spend even more time with Shoyo, but not more happy than he was.
Shoyo was hopeful that maybe this was a sign that you two might end up together, just like he wanted. But, not everything goes the way you want them to go, do they?
Within just a few weeks, a player caught your eyes. A player who wasn't Shoyo. But instead, Kiyoomi Sakusa.
Did Shoyo notice that? Of course he did, but he denied believing it. He didn't wanna think about it too much, as long as you were still friends with him.

Today was your birthday. A day that Shoyo has remembered for almost two decades. It's one of his favorite days of the year. Well, why wouldn't it be? Everyone loves picking gifts for their loved ones.
It was an early morning, way before practice even started. You always came to practice early before everyone else, and he knew that. He wanted to be the first one to say happy birthday to you, like he always did.
He slowly creeped into the gymnasium, trying to make as less sound as possible. His eyes wandered around the huge gym, looking for you. He walked further into the gym, and tried knocking on the door of the storage room. If you were in there, it probably wouldn't have been locked. He furrowed his eyes a bit, seeming confused. Did you just not come yet? Was he too early?
He walked out of the gym, and started texting you: "(y/n) !! are you awake yet? good morning :)"
he stared at the text for a minute, no reply. Maybe you really were still asleep. He sighed, about to head to his car, thinking it was way too early to be at practice, until he heard giggling from a distance. It sounded way too much like your voice.
His head jolted around to look back at the gym. He starting walking slowly towards where the sound was coming from. It seemed like the back of the gym.
As he got closer, the chatter got more audible. He was convinced that this was your voice. But he had never heard you laugh like that with anyone but him. So, who was it? He was desperate to find out.
He got to the back of the gym, peeking his head through, just enough for him to see what was going on. And there you were, with his teammate, Sakusa. Your hand was on his shoulder, and he didn't even try to move it away.
Shoyo slowly walked away with his head down, the small gift box about to fall from his hands. In the back of his mind, he knew that this day would come, but he just didn't know it would be so soon.
As he was about to open the door to his car, he looked back at the gymnasium one more time. All the memories of you and him flooding back in his eyes.
And in that moment, he realized that from now on, he'd never be able to be the first person to say happy birthday to you, he'd be the second.

let it be me | kuroo tetsurou (1)
Tumblr media
In which you, as a new divorcée, can't help but crush on your 4-year-old's new PE Coach.
genre: singleparent!reader x coach! Kuroo, fluff, acquaintances-to-lovers
---- part one | next part >>>
You know Kuroo Tetsurou before you officially meet him.
Why? Because he's practically a legend to your current four-year-old who's been talking about him nonstop from the moment you've strapped her into the car on the way back home.
"Apparently he was a--a volleyball champ!" Sakura chimes from the back as you swerve into the right lane in the direction of your tiny flat, "he knows how to serve from faaaar away, and --and when he serves, it's like--kapow! and boom! and whoosh! like that!"
You can't help but laugh because seeing your daughter so excited about volleyball is something you hadn't been expecting, not when you have two left feet and a stamina of a tiny pet rat.
"I'm glad you enjoyed your first week back," you meet her eyes in the rearview mirror with a smile, "that's good isn't it? Better than last year then?"
"Yes! I love Kuroo sensei!"
It seems that this particular teacher has specifically changed Sakura's view on school, and you had made a mental note to thank him.
But all thoughts of thank-yous and praise had flown out of your head the moment you bump into the said PE teacher in the corridor leading up to Sakura's class the next morning.
"Oh I'm so sorry!" You cry out, bending down to help him pick up the stack of papers that are now flying about and scattering at your feet, "here, let me help you--"
"It's Kuroo sensei!" Sakura chirps suddenly, causing your eyes to snap up at him.
Oh. So that's the PE teacher she's been gushing about all week. You're quick to shove the papers into a messy pile before handing them out to him, "I'm really sorry about that," you say sheepishly.
"Nothing to worry about," his deep voice is what catches your attention at first, followed by his height as he straightens up so that you get a clear view of his facce; angular features, honey-golden eyes that blink slowly at you in a way that makes you want to squirm, and messy dark raven locks that looks like he's just rolled out of bed five minutes ago.
Not that you won't mind if he rolled out of your bed, you mind chanted without warning.
You stop it as soon as it surfaces, horror and panic crashing into you at the same time. This man is--what? Probably half your age?
"Kuroo sensei! Do we have class with you later?" Sakura, unknowing of all the tormenting thoughts flickering past your brain, seems all too excited to see her PE teacher.
He chuckles lightly before ruffling her short bangs, "not today, little munchkin," he leans down to see her face, "but I'm pretty certain that we have class tomorrow. How about that?"
"Oh really? Yay!" Sakura claps, beaming up at him like he's just put a new sun in her sky, and Kuroo grins before straightening up once more, gold eyes clashing against your dark maroon.
"I don't think we've met," his voice, it's so deep and gravelly that it makes you want to swoon. You snap out of it the moment you spot his outstretched hand, "I'm Kuroo Tetsurou, the new PE teacher."
"So you're the new teacher that Sakura's been talking about all this time," you send him a shy smile as you shake his hand, realizing that his palm practically dwarfs yours in comparison, "it's nice to meet you. I'm Sakura's mum. How are you enjoying the school?"
"It's been really great actually," his grin widens. He has a beautiful smile, one that will easily make all the ladies of staff fall at his feet, "I'm slowly finding my way around the timetable, but other than that it's been smooth-sailing till now."
You nod, "that's great. I'm glad to hear," and then turn to your daughter, "you know where your class is right?"
"Of course I know mum," Sakura folds her arms across her chest indignantly.
You laugh, ruffling her hair before ushering her onwards, "alright alright. Yes, you're a big now. Then off you go."
You both watch her teeter down the hall, sometimes almost falling off-balance due to her newly-acquired skill of running with the weight of her bag around her shoulders, and fondness explodes across your chest. It's sweet and bitter at the same time, watching your daughter grow day by day. She's always changing, you realize, every day is a new one, maybe her hair gets longer, or you find a new mole along her face. It's like she's growing so fast you barely have time to savour it.
"Cute kid you have there."
You realize you're not alone upon hearing the familiar scratchy alto, and quickly blink back to reality, "ah--thank you. She can be a handful when she wants. Sometimes."
"All kids are," Kuroo tilts his head towards you, a smile on his face, "but sometimes I think they know more than we do."
You can't help but chortle, "definitely. Sakura's practically a know-it-all. She's in the phase of correcting everything that I say."
"Ooh, a bit bossy huh?"
"Tell me about it."
It's then that the bell rings, disrupting any kind of moment you might have with the PE teacher.
"Anyway," you dip your head into a small bow, "thank you for taking care of Sakura."
"It's really no trouble, miss...?"
"It's Y/N. Y/N Kosuke."
"Y/N," his golden orbs locks on yours, swirling with a kind of playfulness, with a warmth that makes your heart stutter, "well, I shall see you around, Ms. Kosuke-san."
And with that, he swerves away with a small wave as you watch his broad back disappear down the hallway, wondering whether it's stupid to imagine whether he'd winked at you or not.
Probably not.
Because why would anyone be interested in a mom right?
-----
The second time you bump into Kuroo Tetsurou is during Sports Day.
You remember back when you were in high school, how you'd always find an excuse to skip out on the activities -- feigning your period or cramps just to get to the nurse's office and away from your classmates -- just so that you could sit and daydream about anything and just about everything. You weren't that popular in your cohort, making it easy for you to disappear whenever you wished. But despite that, you could count on your hands the number of times you'd replaced someone and failed to deliver, causing wave after wave of disappointment as you lost team points as a result.
But now, as a grown up responsible for a child and always accustomed to doing whatever they liked even if that meant bringing you unhappiness or shame, you were obliged to attend such events. Actually enjoyed being there and watching Sakura giving it her all despite her short limbs and her lack of talent in sports. From what you can see, she clearly hasn't taken from her dad's side. Every single flaw in physical movement comes down from your side of the family and at the thought, a smile curves at the edges of your lips as you proceed to clap even harder.
"Is Papa going to be there tomorrow?" asks your daughter the night before as you're tucking her into bed. Her wide eyes are staring up at you like you're the one who can change anything in her world. And yet, just the thought that you can't grant her this one wish makes your heart quake.
You press a soft kiss along her forehead before smoothing over her features, "i'm sorry honey. I'm not sure if he'll be able to come tomorrow."
"Why not?"
"He has work to do. But he promises to be there this weekend," you try to smile, though it's hard when Sakura's face doesn't light up like it usually does at the mention of her father. That's when you prod, "everything okay, Sakura?"
Your daughter merely turns away to hide her face against her pillow. Her mumble comes out soft and practically a whisper. But you can still hear her loud and clear.
"Why doesn't he ever come?"
Your heart drops to your stomach. You move to hug her, in hopes of appeasing the pain she feels. But she's right, you can't do anything about it. About this. It's a selfish act, the act of divorcing the one whom you thought would've been your lifelong partner till the day you die. And yet, you hadn't been strong enough for her sake.
And Sakura's the one victim to all consequences that follow.
Because how can you tell her? That her father has decided to choose someone else -- another woman, instead of staying by his family and taking on his responsibilities as he should? How could you tell her that her own father has abandoned her?
Sakura isn't stupid. She's well aware of everything that happens around her. But such words coming out of her own mouth causes your own eyes to burn with tears.
"Papa loves you. He's just--busy with work. But you know that he loves you so so much right?" you hope that your murmur is enough to appease her.
And it does, for now.
Sakura snuggles closer to your bosom, small fingers gripping your t-shirt as though she doesn't want you to leave, "will you stay with me until I fall asleep?" she murmurs through closed eyelids.
You nod, smooth one hand over her forehead, "yeah. Sleep now, okay? Tomorrow's a big day."
Hence the reason why you're here. Burning under the midday sun. Hat poised over your head, and a piece of stray paper from your office that you're using as a makeshift fan.
Until now, it's proven itself useless in response to the heat.
"Come on, Greens!"
That familiar alto. Raspy and velvet like chocolate. It makes your eyes swipe right to the source only to see none other than the PE coach.
Kuroo Tetsurou is bathed in sweat as he stands by the sidelines, cap over his messy hair and eyes never straying from the row of students balancing potatoes across their tiny spoons. His t-shirt is practically soaked through from the back, showing off his array of muscles twisting and twining like vines around a bark of a tree, and when he crosses his arms over his chest you take note of the swell of his biceps. Taunting, tantalizing.
He's a catch, is what your mind thinks.
You shut it down immediately. What's the point of daydreaming when you're not ready to commit to anything? Not even a fling?
No. You'd much rather stay alone. You know exactly how it feels like to be loved and to lose that love by someone whom you thought had your heart as much as you had his. And you weren't in a rush to fall into that trap once again.
It's finally Sakura's turn and almost subconsciously, you straighten up in the bleachers to get a better look at your daughter all decked in Blue. She's holding out her spoon, tongue sticking out in concentration just as a teacher places a potato right in the middle of it.
Catching your eye from where you sit, she gives you a wide beam, all teeth, and you grin back, doing a silly little wriggle of your fingers. You do the mistake of glancing back towards your right only to meet the PE coach's eyes by mistake.
He grins a Cheshire cat smile, as if he knows that he's been caught but he doesn't care, and your own smile turns shy, ducking your head and soon averting your eyes.
The whistle sounds. The race is on.
"C'mon Sakura!" You yell as loud as you can, watching your daughter waddle in what you hope is a straight line. She's second at this point, trying hard not to lose her potato as her classmate -- a red -- blunders right through without hesitation, "C'mon Sakura! You can do it!"
Your daughter all but wobbles, lips parted in concentration as another boy zooms past. You cup your lips using your hands and shout with all your might, "C'mon Sakura! Faster!"
She finishes in third place, not a bad start for her sports confidence, and comes running straight up to you so that you pick her up with a whoop.
"That's my girl!" You nuzzle into her sweaty hair, "aren't you a big champ?!"
"Did you see mum?! I'm third!" she flaps her arms around, "I'm third! Will I get a medal?!"
"You sure will," you pinch her cheek, "and you did great! I didn't know you were good at balancing potatoes!"
"Next time I'll come in first!"
"Then we'll have to practice at home," you chuckle.
It isn't until the end of the Sports day that Kuroo Tetsurou finds you amidst the horde of parents making their way to the parking lot.
"Hey," he calls out to you as you're opening your trunk. You wave at him, slightly embarrassed as you recall the way he'd locked eyes with you briefly on the field. You strive for nonchalance as you say, "how's it going, coach?"
"Not bad, how about you?" he walks straight up to the car, waving at Sakura from the backseat before turning his attention back on you. You and the multiple bags you're organizing, "what's this?"
"Oh it's for an event," you huff out and pull a bag up into the trunk.
"Here," Kuroo's hand reaches for the next one, "let me help."
"Oh--uhm--" you weren't expecting such chivalry. Heat rises to the back of your neck and you're glad it's a hot summer's day, for you're quite certain your cheeks are flaming, "thank you."
"No problem," he sets the last bag into the trunk, pushing it all the way so that it's secure, "what kind of event is it anyway?"
"It's a corporate event," you explain as he closes the trunk for you, "I'm an event planner."
Something lights up in his golden pupils. He whistles, "haven't heard of that one before," a small smile curves at his lips, "what's the weirdest event you'd had to plan?"
"Oh don't get me started on that," you shudder, "I once had a themed birthday party, but they wanted their party to be set in changing rooms, with the theme 'haunted toilets'."
"Wha--no way," Kuroo bursts out laughing. He has a very nice smile, and a laugh that is contagious. You can't help but grin at him, "is that even legal?"
"Well if they pay you to hire your changing rooms, wouldn't you do it?"
“I suppose so,” you snort, “as long as they pay me.”
He chuckles once more, the sound rumbling through his chest and almost making you swoon. God, he's attractive, even more so when he's all sweaty for some unknown reason.
You hurriedly try to end conversation when you feel your tummy tingle with those familiar butterflies, "well--It was nice meeting you again, Coach."
"Likewise," he tips his head towards you, "and I think you've got yourself a pro athlete back there."
That makes you chortle, "I'm not quite sure, Sakura's been graced with my lack of coordination."
"I wouldn't say so. She came in third, didn't she?"
"You're right," a small smile curves at your lips, "well anyway, thank you. For everything. You're probably exhausted."
"I am, but you're good company," he grins.
Butterflies erupt through your chest and you know without a doubt that this is your cue to leave, and quickly bow to him, "thanks again Coach, see you around."
"See you," a pause, before he adds, "get home safe."
These are simple words, won't that do't matter as much and can be said oh-so-politely. But still, it makes your heart beat so fast you feel it echoing through your chest. You try not to show him your blush as you slide into the driver's seat and watch him raise a hand in mid-wave as you pull out of the parking lot. Sakura waves back with as much excitement and you wonder briefly whether she likes him so much because of the lack of father figure in your household.
Your phone rings then and you scramble for it from the passenger seat, barely able to press down on the green button as you keep your eyes on the road.
"Hello," you place it on loudspeaker and drop it to your lap as you make a turn for the motorway, "hello?"
"Hey, it's me."
Oh.
"Papa!" Sakura's exclamation comes from the back, almost makes you skid off the road as you quickly right yourself with a silent curse. Why in the world is he calling now? It's almost like he knows you were having a good time.
"Aoi," your mumble spills out, "how are you?"
"Good, good." a small pause. "how was sports day?"
"Was great, you missed Sakura in her potato-run," you try not to let the bitterness affect your tone, though it's harder to manage than expected, "how was Cali?"
"Very nice actually, Sakura would've loved it. It's warm, with beaches, and people are always doing stuff. It's a nice city."
Of course it's nice when his new wife owns a mansion and no fees are to be paid for the household. Especially nice when his new wife's family has a multi-national jewelry business and a cash flow that seems neverending.
So you cut to the chase, "why'd you call?"
"Jeez y/n," he laughs, "so brutal. Can't I even ask you how you've been?"
"I've been well, so has Sakura," your patience is running thin, "so tell me, why'd you call? Isn't it like midnight over there?"
"Actually it's still morning," there's amusement in his tone, the kind that makes you want to hurl something at him, "but anyway, I was calling to let you know about the papers."
He doesn't have to mention which papers. You know exactly what he's talking about, "what about them?"
"I've already signed them and sent them your way. You should be receiving them by the end of the week."
"Yes, and?"
There's a bout of hesitation from his side, "and I'd appreciate it if you could sign it as quickly as possible."
Another needle to your gut, "that's fine but...why the rush?"
"Ah well," you don't have to see him to know that he's currently scratching the back of his neck, a nervous tick of his whenever he's unsure or nervous. You hate that you know that about him, "we're--we might be getting married in a few months."
You're so shocked you almost barrel straight into the vehicle in front of you.

Tumblr media
Soft morning rays peeked through Shoyo’s blinds, casting an ethereal golden glow over everything in his small bedroom. The light bounces off the glossy covers of the various books scattered on his floor, ranging from volleyball training manuals to English learning guides and the Dragon Ball DVDS numbered from the very first until the latest.
You stirred lightly in your sleep, feeling a gentle pressure on your neck which pulled you awake. You shifted slightly, trying to find a more comfortable position. As you moved, his grip on your waist tightened, pulling you closer to him as your back pressed against his chest. He hummed softly, his warm breath brushing against your skin.
The gentle buzz of the city outside his apartment was a comforting distant backdrop, the smell of freshly brewed coffee coming from the kitchen filled your nostrils. Must be his roommate, you thought.
You shift slightly in his embrace, still amazed that you and Shoyo can lay comfortably on his small twin size bed. You frown softly at the weight of Shoyo’s arms wrapped over you thanks to the muscles he’s built up. You gently lift his arm, catching a glimpse of the large delivery bag by the end of his bed. You carefully hold his arm up as best as you could without waking him up, turning around to face him.
When you had finally settled into a more cozy position, you were met with his sleepy expression which made your heart flutter. You could tell he was half-asleep and tired, likely trying to recover from his games that had run late from the night before presumably with that high school friend of his that he told you about.
You nestled closer to Shoyo, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest as he instinctively wrapped his arms around you once more, keeping you in a comfortable lock.
“Good mornin’ baby,” Shoyo murmurs, his voice thick with sleep as he presses a soft kiss to your head, taking in the time to smell the sweet scent of your shampoo.
“Good morning, Sho,” you replied back, your voice equally hushed. You look up at him, though he doesn’t open his eyes as he’d rather not be greeted by the sunlight just yet. His hair at the moment looked unkempt and wild, you can’t help but form a soft smile on your lips.
“Did you sleep well?” he asks, his voice a drowsy murmur as he tries his best to fight back his fatigue. How could he fall back asleep when your presence was like a warm blanket he never wanted to let go of? He could stay like this forever.
You nodded as you buried your face in the crook of his neck. You could smell a hint of his cologne and natural musk. You threw your arms over him, both your legs tangled with his and the white blanket draped over both of you.
You traced small lazy patterns on his back, feeling the steady rhythm of his breathing. Your actions gave him a sense of belonging, grounding him in this very moment.
“Yeah, I did. How about you?” you murmured against his skin, your voice soft, “ You must’ve been exhausted after last night.”
He felt the vibrations of your words, sending a shiver down his spine. “I’m okay,” he says quietly, his fingers gently fiddling with the ends of your hair.
You both lay there silently, seconds turning into minutes stretching into a blissful eternity. You finally had a sense of peace that you felt like you hadn’t experienced in a long time, thanks to your busy work schedule.
“I don’t want to get up,” Shoyo admitted, his grip on you tightening slightly. “This is too nice.”
You laughed softly, nudging him gently as you pushed off him just a bit to look up at his face and hum in agreement. “Mhm, I know Sho, but don’t you have training today? Are you seriously trying to slack off on your responsibilities?”
Shoyo sighed dramatically as he nuzzled his face into your hair, “baby, would ya kill me if I asked for a few more minutes?”
You shifted your gaze up at him, your lips curving into a soft smile. The warm sunlight streaming through the blinds shined down on his sleepy yet energetic face, and for a moment, you forgot about everything else but the comfort of his presence.
You knew you had to get up soon— there was work waiting for you, and Shoyo had training scheduled for the morning. But the longer you looked at his bright, hopeful eyes, you found it hard to resist.
“You’re impossible, you know that?” you said, completely giving up, your voice a gentle tease. “I’ve got work, and you have training today. We can’t just lie here all day.”
Shoyo’s lips held a small cheerful grin, it was as if he wasn’t just worn out minutes prior, his eyes sparkled with a mix of charm and enthusiasm. “Come on, lemme enjoy this time with you baby,” he says smoothly, voice filled with genuine affection.
He squeezes you gently as if to plead, you’d be lying if you said his energy wasn’t infectious, it was difficult not to deny him of such a request especially when he looked at you like that. “I’ll get up right after, I promise,” he added, his tone hopeful.
You couldn’t help but laugh softly at his persistence. It was hard to stay annoyed when he was being so affectionate. “You’re really trying to sweet-talk me, huh?” you said, shaking your head slightly but not pulling away. “Alright, fine. A few more minutes. But you better not be late for your training.”
His face lit up immediately upon hearing your words, muttering sweet and small thank you’s as he pulled you in even closer, nestling his face into your neck, his warm breath tickling your skin. “Thank you… thank you baby…” he murmured, it was hard not to be charmed by his gratitude.
Once again, you found yourself sinking back into his embrace, the warmth of his body pressing against yours as it soothed you. Shoyo tightened his hold on you, his fingers brushing gently against your back securely. The gentle rise and fall of his chest beneath your cheek was comforting while the soft hum of his breathing was like a gentle breeze that carried you into a peaceful slumber.
Maybe you could call in sick to watch him and Heitor for the day, Nice would love your company after all.

It's kind of shocking how Hinata is so commonly characterized as someone who is perfect at making friends and is a 100% extrovert-- which yes, he is, but I think people are forgetting how much anxiety he has and how much of a people pleaser he is. I'm rewatching Haikyuu rn and I'm on S1 E5, and the way Daichi came up to Hinata and his immediate response was "I'll block, I'll set, I'll do whatever you need me to!!" And the way he makes promises he can't keep because he wants people to like him is kind of sad. I doubt he had many friends growing up other than Izumi and Kouji, and was probably bullied for being loud, obnoxious, and a weirdo for playing volleyball with the girls or being so into volleyball. So now he makes promises he can't keep and tries to go above and beyond for the team because he doesn't want them to get rid of him or not take him seriously. Yes, he's good at making friends, but I doubt he knows how or why. He's clearly worried that people are only friends with him out of convenience and his jumping skills; that since they play together, they /have/ to be friends. He just wants to finally be of use to someone; for someone to take him seriously; someone who won't ignore him around other people bc they don't want to be seen with him (silly funny little hc of mine 🥰🥰) . But that's also why Karasuno is so great, because they really are a family. They love Hinata and are friends with him, and they like him because he's a good person, not because they have to be since they play together, or just because he's skilled and they want to take that from him. And maybe at first, Hinata didn't realize that, since after being ignored and bullied and mocked, he thought the only way someone would possibly want him around was because he could help them win. And since he's so short, of course, taller, older, buffer players would intimidate him because they could easily take advantage of the height difference, so all of his bathroom encounters are NOT helping his anxiety 😭😭😭 and the puking??? When hinata threw up on Tanaka?? Everybody is always so focused on Yamaguchi's anxiety that they don't look at or even realize Hinata's anxiety. LITERALLY, THE ENTIRETY OF EP5 IS ABOUT HINATA'S ANXIETY AND PEOPLE PLEASING BEHAVIOR,,, WHY DOES NOBODY TALK ABOUT IT???? THE KEY SCENE LIKE 20 MINUTES IN??? (For ref, Daichi, Suga, and Kageyama are talking about Hinatas behavior, and Daichi imagines a scene: He hands Hinata the club room keys, Hinata says he'll take it, Daichi says, "I never told you where to keep it, so I brought it", and Hinata bows repeatedly saying he's sorry (about 6 times)) THAT IS NOT NORMAL!!! And then he's so worried about not doing well because he feels like he needs to make up for everything (his height, his lack of skill, his lack of experience on a team, the incident with Kageyama, etc), AHH HE LITERALLY SAYS, "This isn't like junior high...because I can be replaced! I don't want that. I don't want to be replaced. " BUT NOBODY CARES?? NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS FANDOM (THAT I HAVE SEEN) TALKS ABOUT ANY OF THIS!!! All I ever see is how Hinata has tons of friends and is so popular and is a people magnet, but does anybody ever think that he's probably anxious because those friends might get bored of him and find new friends?? That since Kenma has known Kuroo a lot longer and already doesn't really like people, he might just decide to stop talking to him?? Or that Kageyama might get bored of Hinata and stop hanging out with him outside of volleyball?? Or that Daichi and/or Coach Ukai will one day realize that he isn't really that special, and anyone can jump or run fast, so he gets replaced??? Literally I bet his WORST FEAR is being replaced and forgotten.

you, me, our dreams.
cw ; thirdyear!hinata shoyo x f!reader, angst to fluff.
Tumblr media
Dating Shoyo is like throwing yourself into a tornado, you never know what will be the next spin off of your relationship. During the last years of highschool, your relationship have gone still, his more preoccupied now on trying to make his dreams come true.
But what about finding from other people that his going abroad after finishing highschool?
"One more lap!"
The voice of your coach reach your ears even though you've gone underwater and when you finally finish your training, you got out from the pool and excuse yourself from the team. Changing back to your uniform, the note you got earlier from your locker, in which you put on the pocket of your skirt fell down
'Let's have a date! See ya afterschool, babe.'
You don't feel the usual tingling sensation, not even the butterflies in your stomach. You hurriedly put on your uniform and grab your bag, waving to your teammates you finally exited the pool area and run from there to your house. It's not that far but it really got you gasping for air once you arrive at your doorstep
A hot bath always relaxes your mind and body everytime you get home and you know that you need it now.
After taking a bath you just blow dried your hair and throw yourself at your bed, by the time you close your eyes you are once again reminded on what you've heard hours ago that you wish you'll just forget
"Oh the memories!"
You stop at your tracks when you heard some familiar voices, peeking out from where you are. You can see the faces of some of the alumni of Karasuno Voleyball Team
"I'm so excited to see Kageyama, Hinata, Tsukishima and Yamaguchi! Hope those four didn't stress Hitoka-chan."
"You're such a worry rat Asahi! I mean, same. I will teach Kageyama what to do with his sign once he get popular!"
The three men laugh and you can't help but admire how strong their bond is. You transferred to Karasuno during second year and that's where when the voleyball team are at the top. It also didn't help that you are at the same class of Shoyo and Kageyama, you three became friends and they always invites you over to watch some of their practice match
Although your relationship with Shoyo went from friends to lovers, his a ray of sunshine that you can't help but want to get close. It was valentines day when he surprise you with chocolates and flowers, remembering the teasing face of Tsukishima and Kageyama seeing how Shoyo almost fumble his surprise
"Though is Hinata really sure of his plans after graduation?"
It was Sawamura who spoke and it got you more curious so you went a little closer to hear more better
'Shoyo's plans after graduation?' He never told you about it
"I know. Brazil is so far away! Our lil'tangerine really grew up huh."
"Never saw it coming."
Their voices slowly fades away as you ponder your mind on what you just heard, why didn't Shoyo told you? Is that why his always busy and away? Just why?
You were brought back to your senses when your phone suddenly vibrated, you forgot that you set it to silent mode. You look at the caller and frown seeing that it's Shoyo
"Hi babe! I think you didn't see the letter I put on your locker, just trying to be romantic, heh. Anyways! I'm at the gate waiting for you."
Hearing his cheery voice makes your heart clench, not in a joyous way but the most saddest way.
"I'm sorry, I went home already."
"Eh? Then I'll go-"
"Not today, Hinata."
That's a warning the moment he heard you call him by his last name, you never call him that on a daily basis except when you're not in the mood
"Did something happen? Are you okay?"
You bit your lower lip before answering him, suppressing your emotions
"I'm fine. Bye."
The call ended and it was just the start of you slowly drifting away from Shoyo.
Morning came and you arrived at the classroom earlier than usual, you also exited the room before Shoyo can even go up and talk to you. You also manage to avoid him during lunch and recess by going with your friends. Last but not the least, you always go home earlier than usual.
2 weeks later
You were about to go home when a text from Hitoka arrive stating that she needs to tell you something, she said that you're the only class president left who hasn't know about it yet because she couldn't catch you.
Arriving at the gym, you notice that there's no people and that maybe Hitoka left since her text was sent 20 mins after you finish your training
"I'll just- *slam*"
You quickly turn around but to be only greeted by a hug, the familiar scent and warm immediately let your body be at rest. You didn't move nor pat him on the back, you only stood still and just look down even after he break away from the hug
"You're killing me, y'know that? 2 weeks without hearing your voice, feeling your warm embrace. I miss everything about you, ____."
His hand touches your face but you refuse to meet his gaze because you know that the moment you lift your face, all the strong facade you've put up will crumble
"I'm just busy. The swimming tournament is just around the corner so I've been practicing."
He knows that's a lie, Shoyo just knows. He learn from your teammates that the tournament got push back to next month and that you're pushing yourself to your limits everytime you train
"Why are you lying?"
That irk you
"I'm not lying."
"Yes, you are! The tournament is on next month and that you're just extra training trying to avoid me."
That did it, you push him away from you
"So what? Not like you care, Hinata. We're both athletes so you know how important our sports to us."
Still, you kept your head hang low. Fuck, your tears are already pooling on your eyes and you just hope that your voice won't waver for a second
"But you're important to me too! Look, I know I'm not the best boyfriend but I think about you all the time! Not being near you these past few days is torture, ____."
You scoff and Shoyo heard it loud and clear, something's wrong and it's telling him to reach out to you or else you'll really slip away from him
"Think about me? What a joke! Ever since we became third years, our relationship have gone astray. We only meet each other once a week or maybe none!"
His not understanding a word you're saying and his heart is beating so fast
"We are adults now, we can make big decision without trying to consult or tell others about it, right?"
"What are you saying?"
Shoyo lift his hand to reach out to you but
"Don't touch me!"
He got taken back at the sudden raise of your voice, he also notice how you kept fiddling with your hands
"What I'm trying to say is, let's just break up!"
"No. No, you can't just say that."
Shoyo immediately grab your shoulders but you kept on pushing him
"Let go of me, Hinata!"
"I can't do that. Please, what's gotten into you?"
"Nothing, just let me go!"
"Saying we break up is not nothing!"
Using all your strength you manage to push him hard and he landed on the floor, his eyes studied your actions and saw how you balled your fist and when he was about to speak up, tears drip down from your face to the floor
"I'm nothing to you! You don't think of me! Aren't you glad that I'm breaking up with you?! It will be more easier for you to just forget about me and go to Brazil, right?!"
"Where did you-"
"I'm doing you a favor so please just forget about me, think nothing of me!"
You gasp when he stood up and pulls you in for a tight hug
"Shoyo, please!"
"I'm not letting you go. Never."
"I hate you! I hate you!"
You cried on to his arm that you didn't notice your shoulder getting wet from his own tears, you two stood at the center of the gym, crying. When you calmed down and stop resisting, he pulled away enough to get a closer look of your face, he tilt your face up and capture your lips for a sweet and long kiss.
"I hate you.." you said in between kisses "I know.." and he replied but that didn't make Shoyo pull away. He broke the kiss when he felt your hands on his back, he looks at you but you averted his gaze.
Shoyo pulled you towards the stage and he lifts you up effortlessly and made you sit on the stage floor. He place his arms on each side of your body as he captures your lips for a kiss again. This time, your hands started to play on his orange locks, you feel like drowning each time he moves his lips. You hate how much grip he has on you, but what you hate the most is knowing you'll never be the same once you two part ways
"Open your mouth for me.."
"Mhm..!"
His now standing in between your thighs, one hand is place on your back while the other one is on the back of your neck. The deeper the kiss goes, the deeper you let yourself drown on to his love. When the both of you pulled away, a string of saliva appeared and you quickly cover your lips
"I planned to tell you that I'm going to Brazil the day I left the note on your locker. I guess you heard it from my teammates."
"No, not from your teammates. Didn't your seniors visited that day? I was passing by the gym when I heard them talk about it."
Shoyo hums and rest his head on the crook of your neck, his lips leaving soft feathering kiss there
"I love you, ____. I think about you all the time, every day and night. Even when I'm about to sleep, you're always on my mind. Not a day passes by where you're not included on my thoughts. I know that not telling you a little bit earlier of my plans is a bad move but it's because I'm also having trouble with it."
You softly stroke his hair and held hands with him, you miss being this close with him
"Trouble?"
"Mhm the thought of me leaving you all alone, the thought of me going somewhere where I'm away from the people I treasure, away from the person I love the most. It gives me so much pain, seeing your tears flow down from your cheeks while ago, it makes me want to back out from my own decision."
"No, I was being selfish. I want you to go after your dreams, I want you to shine more, Shoyo. I want the world to know just how good you are, I want to show the world what they're missing. Don't let my meaningless words and actions hold you back. Chase it, chase your dreams."
"But you're one of my dreams too. I want you to be at my side as I slowly reach the top. I want you near me. I want you to be there."
He cup your cheeks and kisses you lips which made you smile warmly and Shoyo couldn't help but fall even more harder
"And I will be there. I'm sorry for acting out of character. It was dumb of me."
"No, you're feelings are valid. If you were the one who did that to me, I'll have the same reaction."
You laugh softly and Shoyo kisses you once again, this time it's more full of his overflowing passion and desire for you.
"Stop pushing!"
"Fuck- I can't hear their voices."
"Guys we shouldn't be eavesdropping..."
"Tadashi is right guys!"
"The hell King! Move your ass!"
"What did you say Tsukishima?!"
"Stop it you two!"
You jolted away making you break away from the kiss and Shoyo let's out a annoyed sigh making you giggle and as soon the doors of the gym burst open and revealed Hitoka, Yamaguchi, Tsukishima and Kageyama.
"____, Hinata! Have you guys fix things up?"
Hitoka is the first one who spoke
"Just how long were you guys eavesdropping?" Shoyo ask
"When we heard ____ gasp for air." Kageyama answered
"What?!" You scream "Kageyama!" The setter look at his friends with annoyed expression, silently asking if what he said is wrong
"And that's why you can never have a girlfriend."
Tsukishima deadpans and that was the cue of them two bickering and you just can't help but shake your head. Shoyo squeezes your hand and you turn your head to look at him, he stole a quick kiss and press his forehead to yours
"I love you, ____."
"I love you too, Shoyo."

°`🍨: Hinata Shoyo x GN! Reader
°`🍨: Right Person Wrong Time
Tumblr media
It was one of these nights again. It was cold even if the window was closed, the heater was on and your blanket was covering you tightly. It's not the winter cold that is bothering you at midnight, when it's hard to sleep because your mind isn't stopping any time soon. It's this cold and empty feeling you have since your boyfriend left you. You know he did it to experience something new. To grow and learn new things he couldn't learn in Japan but waking up to see no new messages in your notification killed something in you. Your heart squeezes in your chest, the remaining part, that didn't fly in Hinata's hand to Brazil. It was hard. You missed him so much, sometimes you wished you were a little bit more selfish. You should have packed your luggage go come with him or begged on your knees for him not to go. But you couldn't do it. He deserved this chance and he also promised to come back into your arms, where he belongs. But for tonight, you wiggle snuggle into the pillow where his smell starts to faint while your cheeks are once more wet.
Losing contact because of the time zone where normal or that's what you tell yourself. Messages became shorter until they stopped for days until he answers, only for it to be one word. Most of the time it's good after you asked him how he's doing or busy, as if you realize that yourself but you couldn't stop trying to small talk with your boyfriend. You missed him each day more but it starts to feel like as if you were the only one. Looking at pictures every day before sleep. Walking the same path you both did after school. Even thou the crying stopped, you still felt a pressure on your stomach. A pressure that reminds you how your once beautiful and dreamlike relationship is slowly slipping through your fingers. Seeing couples on the streets make you go green from jealousy. Gnawing at your fingernails because of the frustration you fell. Snapping at your friends, because they said his name out loud while trying to comfort you. It only went downhill for you. You realized how much you needed him but how he didn't need you. He was like your oxygen, that you need to breathe before your lungs collapsed. The sunshine you needed like a flower in nature. How saying your name, made your sanity stable once more. It's suffocating. It's getting out of hand and you can't stop the spiralling. The negative emotions crawling up your throat that are starting go choke you. You were blinded by love and not reaching your hand out for help. It got even more unhealthy when you saw him post pictures with other women. How you suddenly hated the image of yourself, when you stepped past a mirror. How your hobbies started to get boring and less satisfying until they made you angry only thinking about them. Hinata Shoyo ruined you, broke your heart and just silently left your life.
Seeing news about him started to feel less like a stab in the back. Breathing became easier after you just let go. Focusing on yourself, your friends and family, that helped you out of that dark path. That held your hand until you were able to stand on both of your feet yourself. It was hard. Nothing you would look at and feel proud about but you can't deny that he was your first love, the love of your life and probably the best thing that happened to you before he left you. Watching him jump, cheer loudly and smile widely, didn't feel like a fire anymore. It was like a nice summer breeze, that let you feel nostalgic while your hands tightly held into another pair of hands, that squeezed your pair gently. Hinata Shoyo was the right one just at the wrong time.

Slipping through my fingers, all the time
13/20
Tumblr media
The first time he saw you falter, it was the tremor in your hand that gave you away. You were always so steady, so sure. But that morning, as you reached for your coffee mug, there it was—a small, almost imperceptible shake. He didn’t say anything, only watched as you set the mug down a little too carefully. When he asked if you were feeling all right, you smiled, brushing it off with a laugh that sounded a touch too practiced.
“It’s nothing,” you said, waving him off. “Probably just the weather.”
He believed you, or maybe he let himself believe you because it was easier than facing the alternative.
The park was where he saw it again. It was autumn, the air crisp, the leaves crackling underfoot as the two of you walked side by side. You stumbled—not clumsily, but in a way that didn’t feel like you. When you reached for his arm, your grip was firm, desperate even, as if the earth had shifted beneath your feet.
“Careful,” he said lightly, hoping his voice didn’t betray him.
You laughed, but the sound was thin. “Guess I’m getting old.”
You held onto his arm for the rest of the walk. He didn’t mind. He told himself you just liked being close, but there was a shadow in his chest that refused to lift.
It wasn’t long before the shadow grew roots.
One night, he found you sitting on the bathroom floor, your head buried in your hands. The tremors were worse now, rattling through you like the aftershocks of a distant quake. When he knelt beside you, the look in your eyes hit him harder than any words could have.
“What’s going on?” he asked, his voice low and steady, though inside he felt like he was unraveling.
You didn’t answer at first, just stared at the tiled floor as if it held all the answers you couldn’t give.
Finally, you whispered, “It’s a condition. Degenerative. There’s no cure.”
The weight of those words crushed the air from the room. He felt his chest tighten, his lungs refusing to expand. “How long?”
“Years,” you said, your voice cracking. “But it’s getting worse now.”
It was the first time he truly understood what inevitable meant—not as a word, but as a sentence, as a suffocating truth that could crush bone and marrow alike.
What could he say?
He wrapped his arms around you as you broke down. He'd hold you together.
He learned quickly how to carry the pieces of you that were breaking.
There were schedules to memorize, pills to count, appointments to keep. Some days were harder than others, when the disease clawed at you with its invisible hands, leaving you too exhausted to move. Those days, he would sit by your side, feeding you soup and pretending not to notice how you flinched at the effort it took to swallow.
But there were good days too.
Days when you smiled at him like nothing had changed. You’d sit on the couch together, your head on his shoulder, laughing at something on the television. He memorized those moments, stored them like treasures in the back of his mind. On the bad days, he would dig them out and hold them close, desperate for warmth. These moments were his lifeline.
The first time you forgot his name, it nearly broke him.
He had been reading to you, his voice filling the quiet room, when you suddenly interrupted. “Who are you?” you asked, your voice hesitant, like a child asking a question they weren’t sure they were allowed to ask.
He froze, the words catching in his throat. For a moment, all he could do was stare at you, his heart a stone sinking in his chest.
“It’s me,” he said softly, his voice trembling. He told you his name, reminded you of the life you shared. Slowly, recognition returned to your eyes, but the crack it left in him never healed.
Later that night, when you were asleep, he cried in the living room.
The decline was relentless, each new symptom a thief stealing pieces of you. Your strength, your independence, your voice—one by one, they slipped through his fingers, leaving only memories behind.
One night, as he sat by your bedside, you reached out, your hand frail and trembling. He took it, feeling the coldness of your skin seep into his own.
“Thank you,” you whispered.
“For what?” he asked, his voice rough.
“For staying,” you said, your lips curling into the faintest smile.
He wanted to tell you that leaving had never been an option, that he would have stayed even if the world had been burning around him. But the words wouldn’t come. Instead, he pressed your hand to his lips, letting the silence speak for him.
One night, the both of you sat outside on the balcony, the night wrapping her arms around you, placing you in a cocoon.
"Do you ever think about what comes next?" You ask him softly, resting you head on his shoulder.
He didn't answer right away. He didn't want to.
Finally, he settled on "I try not to."
You smiled up at him, faintly, "Me too,"
The silence rang out in the night.
The day you died, the air felt too still.
He had known it was coming. He had sat with you through every agonizing step, watching as the disease stripped you down to nothing. But when he walked into the room and saw you lying there, so still, so quiet, it was as if the ground had been ripped out from under him.
He didn’t cry at first. He couldn’t. He sat beside you, holding your hand, staring at the empty shell that had once been you. It felt like the air had been stolen from the room, leaving him suffocating in a silence that pressed against his ears like a scream.
Now, he stands in front of your grave, the weight of the world pressing down on him. The headstone is simple, your name etched into the cold, unyielding stone. He traces the letters with his fingers, the roughness of the engraving biting into his skin.
The grief is a living thing, clawing at his chest, filling his throat with sand. The world around him is too bright, too loud, the chirping of birds and rustling of leaves feeling like an insult to your absence.
He kneels, the grass damp beneath his knees, and bows his head. “I’m sorry,” he whispers, his voice breaking. “I couldn’t save you. I… I should have done more. Said more.”
The words are a flood now, spilling from him in a torrent he can’t stop. “I miss you,” he chokes out, his breath hitching. “God, I miss you so much.”
The grief is suffocating, a black hole swallowing him whole. He clutches at the earth, the dampness seeping into his skin, grounding him in the only way he knows how.
For the first time since you left, he lets himself feel the full weight of it—the loss, the anger, the love. He breaks, the sobs wracking his body, shaking him to his core.
And as the sun sets, casting long shadows across the cemetery, he stays there, the weight of your absence pressing down on him like the weight of the sky.
