For as positive as Mari could seem, she was still human. Hero knew that much. She was a wonderful human, sure -- a role model, a beacon of positivity -- but she was still a human. A person who had her flaws, her insecurities, her doubts. One of the greatest he'd seen in her was her perfectionism. She was always so hard on herself when she wasn't watching over the others with him. In some ways, it was difficult to understand how someone as talented as she was could ever doubt herself. If she could see what he knew he saw in her, she'd realize she had no reason for these doubts.

But she never seemed to, did she? He put forth every effort to help her out, but she struggled nonetheless. It didn't feel like a personal failing, per se. He didn't want to think that he may have been letting her down somehow. Rather, it was a sign that he ought to change strategies. She was well worth the effort. Seeing her smile genuinely, the way her eyes would crinkle when she grinned at Sunny, the laugh she'd let out at Kel's overconfidence during their games of cards up in the treehouse, the gentle assistance she would offer Basil with his plants, the encouraging positivity she could always manage to muster up for Aubrey… He wanted to keep seeing these. To find some way to give her the sort of freedom she'd need to continue expressing these things. All of the traits he loved about her, an endless list of admirations he could shower her with if she wouldn't find some way to turn it around and fluster him instead.

He'd heard it for himself, how often she'd been playing recently. When he was outside or when the window in his and Kel's room was down, he could hear it. Especially at night, much too late. He'd considered hopping the fence once or twice to try and send her to bed to make sure she was rested for class, but he hadn't mustered up the courage to do it just yet. She was worried about this recital. Sunny must have been, too, considering how often he was practicing as well. With the two of them working together, he had no doubts that it would be amazing.

“Mari…” The tone he addressed her with was quiet. Gentle. His brows knit down in concern. She'd pointed out before that it wasn't unlike the sort of face Kel would make. “I know prep school hasn't been easy for you… And I'm sure you must be nervous about your recital, too.” He wished he was better with his words sometimes. Especially in her case. “But we'll all be there to support you. Mom's planning to buy Kel a whole new outfit to go in!” His attempt at lightening the mood seemed to fall a little flat. It wasn't exactly untrue, though… His brother had spilled Orange Joe all over his last formal outfit.

He should probably just stick to the topic at hand. “You're more than good enough for us. You're amazing.” He offered her a warm smile, and one he hoped could be half as reassuring as ones she'd given him in the past. “I'm sure you and Sunny are going to play beautifully up there together.” And when she was done? He'd be standing in the audience with a bouquet of roses to hand her. He'd already been sizing them up at Fit-It. “And if you need help preparing anything else in the meantime, just let me know! I'll be over right away.” He'd never minded dropping everything for her sake before. Now was no different.

Random info, you could tell that Hiki has their own personality, when Mari was in control, her expression looks very depressed and neutral. There were times Hiki would be in control like going out of character, The hs friend group always know that Hiki doesn't show much emotions and just expresses it through her actions. They sorta got weirded out at the same time glad she shows them.

(Knowledge of omori spoilers required to understand) What would Maris "fake name" be in an omari au if she were to have one?

Maybe it could still be Omori, maybe cuz just maybeeeee she compares her self worth to her piano playing skills? (Personal HC I know... it just makes sense in my head)

I know some people would call her "hiki" or "hikiko" (at least from what I've seen) but it doesn't make much sense to me bc while outside of omori lore "omori" is taken from the word "hikikomori" and hikiko would also work, I need a lore-reliant explanation

Maybe she wouldn't have a fake name? (As I've stated in the title). Idk she doesn't seem as much of an escapist as Sunny is. Maybe she wouldn't even have a headspace? After all everyone has different coping mechanisms and griefing processes, the game itself acknowledges that. So making Mari seal with Sunny's death the same way sunny had dealt with Maris death feels a bit unoriginal and quick impo

HIKIKO AU Character Sprites !!

technically, they're more of edited versions of the original ingame sprites, but i tweaked and played around with them on a few pixel art sprites for a couple of weeks or so, so yea.

these kind of designs might not be the most creative, since these are just the barebones of my AU. the only final decided sprites are the RW and Hikiko sprite tbh.

DREAM WORLD/INNERLAND SPRITES :

i decided to go with a more vintage/old-school sepia tone, mainly bc of the timeframe, but also bc of the way innerland is vastly different from headspace. essentially, instead of fantasizing the past, mari dreams of the future- a future where everyone is older and happy.

the sepiatone was meant to be kind of a way to signal that mari isn't as imaginative as sunny was, so she wouldn't be sure of every one's colour schemes and clothes. at least that's what i intended, fufu

REAL WORLD/FARAWAY SPRITES :

i kind of messed w/ aubrey the most, since her design is supposed to be vastly different. you can actually tell that i went overboard, especially with the arms hnn

also, kel isn't a deliquent. he's more of an aloof, casual jock type, who doesn't get really too close w/ anyone other than his old friend group. i'm gonna make a relationship chart later, so you could tell what level of friendship they're on w/ eachother

Text: Oh! Why if it isn’t HIKIKO.

So… guess who made an OMORI x AHiT AU? Yup…

I’ve mentioned it in my ABOUT section, but this AU kind of got revamped since then! The characters align with the original OMORI cast, but they also don’t, if that makes sense? Like, Mu is this AU’s Kel and Hat Kid is Hero, but Hat Kid isn’t Mu’s older sibling.

This whole thing started with the idea of Snatcher as SOMETHING gaining the ability to speak and just… messing with Vanessa lol. I ended up writing a one-shot, in which I desperately tried not to specify who her friends were so I wouldn’t get attached, but obviously that failed :’)

I’ll put some character + world info under the cut!

HIKIKO - OMORI: Age 14.

She’s the embodiment of how Vanessa sees herself, aka canon Vanessa. Usually emotionless, but can become highly emotional at the flip of a switch. Luke is usually the victim of these outbursts.

VAN (VANESSA) - SUNNY: Age 18.

Shut herself in after Luke’s death, and spends most of her time in her room. She only really leaves to use the bathroom, eat, or re-dye her hair (it’s hazel). She’s leaving for college in three days. Used to play the piano.

She thought that she saw Luke giving flowers to Clover, and that he’d been leading her on. In her heartbreak, she accidentally pushed him down the stairs, and he didn’t survive the fall.

LUKE - MARI: Age 14.

In HEADSPACE, Hikiko has chained him to his picnic blanket, though for some reason he doesn’t seem to mind. Somehow, he manages to travel around anyway. In the REAL WORLD, he and Vanessa were supposed to perform a concert, the day he was found buried in the snow. Played the violin.

HAT (HARRIET) - HERO: Headspace age 12, Real World age 16.

Luke’s younger sister. In HEADSPACE, she claims to be a hat-related alien. She has a certain charm that endears her to everyone she meets. In the REAL WORLD, she was the only one who could break up Brie and Maddie’s fights. After her brother died, she sunk into depression, but recovered after a really bad fight with Maddie. Mostly.

BRIE (BRIANNA) - AUBREY: Headspace age 12, Real World age 16.

Brie was the one who most frequently held the braincell. In HEADSPACE, she claims to be a cat-related alien. She carries a cat plush that hits surprisingly hard. In the REAL WORLD, she felt abandoned by everyone after Luke’s death, and ended up joining a cat gang. …Her anger overpowered her logical side.

MADDIE (MADILYN) - KEL: Headspace age 12, Real World age 16.

Has boundless energy, but acts before thinking. In HEADSPACE, she does her best to be a hero whenever she can, although her definition of “hero” is a bit skewed. She gets into a lot of fights with Brie due to their conflicting personalities, but they’re rarely very serious. In the REAL WORLD, she tried to stay positive for everyone else, though Luke’s death affected her more than she liked to admit. (Real Maddie’s never had a full mustache, but she wants one)

CLOVER - BASIL: Headspace age 13(1/2), Real World age 17.

Vanessa’s best friend. She loves botany and photography. In HEADSPACE, she disappeared after seeing a strange photo. In the REAL WORLD, she’s become a recluse like Van, but she does come out sometimes. She’s often harassed by Brie’s gang.

She saw Vanessa push Luke, but convinced herself it was “Something behind her”. Not wanting her friend to get in trouble, she helped move Luke outside into the snow.

SOMETHING:

Vanessa’s SOMETHING is based on Snatcher, and Clover’s is based on Moonjumper (I didn’t design that one yet haha) I think the different versions for each fear will be different too, but I haven’t decided on the fears yet. It follows them around in the REAL WORLD, but just recently infiltrated HEADSPACE.

The rest of the world, both dream and real, is more similar to AHiT than OMORI, especially the dream world. The playground area is Mafia Town but friendlier, probably with many more people than just the Mafia. Subcon is actually pretty boring in this AU, since Snatcher and Vanessa are out of the picture lol, but it replaces Pyrefly Forest. I think Otherworld will be Alpine Skylines? DBS would be in Orange Oasis, and I’m kind of stuck between the DLCs for Last Resort so I might just fuse them. Also, the Neighbor’s Room is the Spaceship :)

I probably won’t do much more for this, but we’ll see. If you’re confused/want more info about something, feel free to send me an ask! I don’t mind talking about spoilers for this AU.

When the public calls, it's best to be punctual... even on such short notice!

As Emmanuel bounds into the food court, energy high as ever, it's clear that he doesn't seem to be taking this seriously.

"Hey guys, where's the fire...?"

It doesn't take long for his eyes to find the source of the announcement.  He'd think if was part of the prank, but the reactions of the room say otherwise.  Once Bacchus checks the body, it's pretty much a done deal in his mind.

"... Mother Mary..."

Truthfully, he didn't exactly know this person, this... Hikiko?  According to the file.  But that didn't matter, did it?  Any person lost is cause for distress.  Distress leads to chaos, and chaos... well, it's too early to go down that road.

Aaand there goes Hiiro.

Time to do what he does best.

"Well.  Let's get to it.  Someone get Ichimonji on his back.  Raise his legs.  The rest of you... I doubt I need to say it, but if there truly is a murderer in our midst, then we can't afford the luxury of trust.  I'm assuming none of us are trained in forensic investigation, but we can use that to our advantage.  Get creative."
